Endymion/Mamoru Chiba x F!Reader
[summary: a sweet and forbidden romance sweet like cream puffs that ends in tragedy]
'Denizens of the Earth and Moon Kingdom are forbidden to fraternize. That is the god's law.'
"Princess Celeste!" Venus shouted, catching the princess as she snuck down to Earth. Celeste stopped in her tracks and stuck out her tongue. "Princess, I would expect this kind of behavior from Serenity, not you," said Mars. Celeste folded her arms across her chest. "Is it so wrong that I'm merely curious?" asked Celeste. The Sailor Guardians looked at her sternly.
"And it's such curiosity that will get you hurt or worse," said Jupiter, and the princess pursed her lips. "Did anyone see you?" asked Venus, and the princess pursed her lips. "No." She said, lying. "Now, back to your studies," said Mercury, causing the princess' eyes to widen. She slowly backed away, from the guardians and ran down the hallway.
"Celeste!" a voice called out, and she closed the book and placed it on her bed. Romeo and Juliet. She looked out her window and her breathing stopped, "W-What're you doing here?!" asked Celeste, looking down and seeing Endymion looking up at her from her balcony.
"I had to see you again. You dropped this," said Endymion as he reached into his pocket, revealing the bracelet she had dropped. Her cheeks turned red. "How can I trust you?" she asked, unsure.
"I promise I mean no harm," he said, and she gazed down at him. His eyes sparkled like the crystal blue oceans she had seen from above on Earth."
"I'll be right down," she said and quickly left her room. She peeked her head out, looked around to make sure the coast was clear and then made her way down the stairs and outside.
Endymion came out of the bushes and spoke apologetically, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." The girl looked at him nervously as he slowly approached her. He held out a bracelet, and she cautiously reached out to take it from his hand.
"Thank you," she said with a soft smile. "I also brought you this," he said, presenting a beautiful red rose as an apology for having frightened her. Her cheeks turned beet red as she looked at him, and she smiled while taking the rose from him. "Thank you," she mumbled under her breath. Their eyes met, and they smiled at each other as they sat down on the grass, talking to each other as if they were in a world of their own.
Months went by and a friendship blossomed between the two. The Sailor Senshi and Serenity watched as it unfolded from afar, "She looks so happy," said Serenity, noticing the smile on her cousin's face as she talked with Endymion. Celeste never talked much and was always quiet, whenever she didn't have any studies. She used to stay in her room reading whatever booked peeked her fancy. Until one day, her curiosity to see Earth became far too strong for her to push away. So she snuck down to there.
"I can't believe this is happening," said Mars. Serenity looked at the scout and crossed her arms. "Unfortunately, it is," she replied, smiling as Celeste laughed at something Endymion said. "Please don't mention this to my mother," Serenity added, gesturing towards Endymion and Celeste who seemed very happy together. "They look so happy," she remarked, glancing at Celeste once again.
"And sneaking out more often," Mars mumbled, causing Serenity to chuckle. "Yes, besides, I'm going to fix that silly law when I become queen," said Serenity, happy for her cousins' budding friendship and possible romance with Endymion.
Venus gazed at the young princess and replied, "It's not as easy as you think." Serenity looked back at her and responded, "I don't care. When I become queen, that law will no longer exist." Her determination was evident. Suddenly, Endymion and Celeste intertwined their fingers and gazed down at the Earth, causing Serenity to let out a sharp gasp.
"Love is in the air~" She cooed, giddly. The Sailor Senshi sighed and decided to give the two some space. Yet, the Sailor Senshi stood at a safe distance, their eyes fixated on Endymion and Celeste. They had been watching their friendship grow for months, and now, it had blossomed into something more beautiful and alluring.
"Yeah, I couldn't stop laughing when that happened." Celeste exclaimed, as she looked over at Endymion smiling, as they shared stories. Endymion smiled, as he listened to her stories and about her struggles of loneliness.
"I love Serenity I do and the Scouts but.." She brought her knees to her chest hugging them. "I still can't help but feel lonely." She said sadly, looking out at the Earth.
"So most of the time, I stay in my room reading whenever I have a break from studies." She said. He scooted closer to her, "Or sneaking down to Earth." He adds, and she chuckles softly. "Yeah, that too." She said, looking at him smiling. "There's going to be a morning market tomorrow," He said, looking at her and she looked at him. "Would you like to go?" He asked, and her eyes lit up and she nodded in response. "I'd love to. I'll use Serenity as a distraction." She joked, causing the two to smile at each other.
---⋆⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺⋆-----
Celeste's eyes looked curiously at the various food stands and shops, in the market. The smell of something sweet wafted through her nose, and her stomach growled in response. She started sniffing the air like a dog sniffing for food. Until her nose pointed in the direction of the stand, where the scent was coming from.
She rushed towards it. Endymion could only smile softly in response as he followed after her. Her eyes sparkled like stars seeing the delicious cream puffs, some filled with whipped cream and others custard or pastry cream. Endymion paid for the sweet confectionery.
Her eyes widened, and she placed her hand on the right side of her cheek and hummed in delight. “So good!” She mumbled as she savored the delicious treat.
Her cheeks flushed, “Sorry, I’m being impolite.” She said, embarrassed looking away from him. “No, I’m happy you’re having fun,” He said, and she looked at him and smiled. He noticed the little bit of chocolate on her cheek, he brought his hand to her cheek and with his thumb, wiped away the chocolate on her cheek.
She looked away sheepishly, as her heart pounded against her chest. "I should be heading back," She mumbled. He removed his hand from her cheek understanding but upset that their time together was already ending. "I'll escort you," He said, and she smiled. Her eyes landed on a stand selling necklaces, and couldn’t help but stop to look.
As she walked down the street, her eyes caught sight of a beautiful necklace with a gold chain and a jeweled rose at the bottom. Endymion walked up behind her and noticed her staring at the necklace in awe. Without any hesitation, he paid for the necklace before the young princess could even object. "H-Hey, you didn't need to buy that for me." She said as they walked towards the palace.
He looked at her and smiled, "Why not? You're my guest." He said, and her cheeks turned bright red, "Besides a beautiful necklace should be worn by a beautiful princess such as you." He said, and her cheeks turned beet red. Her heart skipped a beat as her breathing hitched, "I-I um.." She mumbled, under her breath.
Her heart raced as he held her hand, intertwining their fingers. She looked into his blue eyes, which sparkled like crystals in the sunlight. "Celeste" He whispered, her name rolling off his tongue so easily.
‘Dont fall in love’
‘Don’t fall in love’
‘Don-‘
As he leaned in, she could feel his warm breath on her lips. His lips were soft and gentle as they met hers, sending a shiver down her spine. She couldn't help but melt into the kiss, her hand instinctively reaching up to caress his cheek. His hand moved to the back of her neck, pulling her closer and deepening the kiss. At that moment, the world around them seemed to fade away as they lost themselves in the intensity of the moment.
‘Too late’

She paced her room still able to feel the warmth of his lips, and she couldn't stop touching them with her fingers. She missed the softness and sweetness of his kiss already. As she walked towards her window, she looked longingly at the Earth. "My Endymion," she sighed, placing her hand over her chest.
Celeste was lost in her thoughts when she heard a knock at her door. "It's me," Serenity said from outside the bedroom. Celeste opened the door and pulled her cousin into the room before closing the door behind them. "What happened?" asked Serenity, taking Celeste's hands. "You've been quiet," she continued, and Celeste looked away sheepishly.
"He kissed me," said Celeste. Serenity's eyes widened in shock. "And I kissed him back," Celeste added. Her cousin gasped in shock before smiling and squealing, "Oh, I'm so happy for you!" squealed Serenity, then Celeste placed her hand over her cousin's mouth.
"Celeste!" a voice called out. She walked towards her balcony and saw Endymion looking up at her. "Endymion!" she whisper-shouted, excitedly. "I'll be right down," she said, sending him a smile. Serenity looked at her cousin and smiled, "Go on!" said Serenity, patting her on the back. Celeste had a smile on her face as she gave her a thumbs-up and exclaimed, "Go get 'em!" Serenity shoved her outside of her bedroom door.
"I had to see you again," he confessed. Her smile grew as she ran down the stairs towards him, wrapping her arms around him. "Endymion," she whispered, looking up at him.
☽。⋆
He gently placed his hand on her cheek, and she leaned into his touch. She smiled softly and said, "When I'm with you, it's like my heart becomes transparent! Energy wells up within me!" She paused for a moment and then looked up into his eyes. "I want to be with you like this forever," she whispered, feeling her heart swelling with emotion as she leaned her head into his chest and felt his strong arms around her. He looked down at her and smiled.
With a gentle sigh, she whispered his name under her breath - "My Endymion." He leaned down towards her and their lips met in a soft and tender kiss, their bodies drawn closer together. As the kiss deepened, he placed his hand on the back of her head, gently pulling her closer to him. With every passing second, the intensity of their embrace grew, their passion burning brighter and brighter until they were both lost in the moment, lost in each other.

A dark cloud seemed to loom over the Earth Kingdom, a rebellion seemed to be brewing. Endymion and Celeste, were seeing less and less of each other. She knew for them to be seen together especially now, would mean war and could even make the situation even worse.
She looked down at the countless letters that they've been exchanging during this time, "Oh, Endymion." She whispered. Missing her lover dearly. She heard rustling from outside, and walked towards her balcony. "Serenity, knows not th-" The figure revealed himself, and her eyes widened with joy.
"Endymion!" She whisper shouted, and quickly ran out of her room towards him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, as his arms snaked their way around her waist.
"Endymion," She whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. She looked up at him, "I don't mean to sound dark but." She mumbled under her breath, she intertwined her fingers with his. "If anything happens, I hope we find each other in our next life." She said, looking at him biting her lip nervously.
Endymion placed, his hand on her cheek. caressing it with his thumb. "Of course, everything is going to be alright." He said, leaning down to press a kiss onto her lips. "I promise," He said, placing his forehead against hers. "I'll protect you no matter what." He planted a kiss on her forehead, and she placed her hand over his.
"I'll protect you, my Starlight." He whispered. She wrapped her arms around him as if her life depended on it. Tears brimming her eyes and she nuzzled her head into his chest. He pulled back and cupped her cheeks, "Someone like you shouldn't have such tears," He said, gently wiping them away. She placed her hand over his leaning into his touch.

"We will take the Kingdom of the Moon and make it ours!"
"The Legendary Silver Crystal will be mine!"
"Prince, will you be a traitor to Earth?"
"This is all for Earth's prosperity!"
"Stop! Lay down your arms! Stop this futile war!" shouted Endymion, standing in front of his beloved Starlight protectively. Celeste stood behind him scared for her life. Beryl's eyes landed on her eyes filled with hatred and jealousy, "So, this is the wench you betrayed your kingdom for!" shouted Beryl; raising the sword above her head and running towards the princess.
"I'll end you!" shouted Beryl, running towards the princess sword raised; above her head. She felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her protectively. Followed by a pained scream and blood staining her hands. Her eyes widened in horror seeing her lover protect her from the sword; getting himself impaled in the process.
Celeste let out a blood-curdling scream, "Endymion!" as she watched him fall to the ground his body lying in front of her feet. Falling to her knees in shock, as she brought her hand to her mouth.
She couldn't breathe. Her entire world seemed to crumble around her, "Endymion!" her anguish cries echoed throughout the kingdom Her eyes drifted towards the sword lying on the ground. With eyes devoid of emotion she reached; towards the sword lying on the ground. She couldn't make a wish or pray everything was gone, nothing could fix this nothing could bring him back. Once again she was alone. Alone.
"Princess?" whispered the sailor scouts. Celeste, tears in her eyes and immeasurable grief in her heart gripped the sword with both hands and plunged it between her breasts. Her body fell to the ground lifeless beside Endymion, her beloved. Her hand clasps over his in her final moments. The Sailor Scouts let out a horrified scream, "Princess!" watching as the princess took her own life. Her body lying next to that of her beloved, like Romeo and Juliet.
----------⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆-----------
"I cant seem to stop eating theses for breakfast and lunch." She exclaimed, as she walked down the sidewalk. Just as she was about to take her first bite of her third cream puff. Someone bumped into her, causing her to drop the cream puff on the ground.
"Wahh! My cream puff!" She exclaimed, looking down at her ruined lunch. "Hey!" She exclaimed, her cheeks puffed as she looked up at the guy.
She looked at the guy in front of her his hair was black, and he wore shades and a tuxedo? He almost looked familiar. "You made me drop my lunch." She pouted, looking at him. He looked at her through the shades.
He couldn't help but tease her. "You keep eating like that, and you'll turn into a cream puff," he said with a grin. She looked at him, furrowed her eyebrows, and pursed her lips.
"Excuse me?!" She scoffed, folding her arms across her chest as she looked at him. "Hmph, mind your business!" She growled, as she picked up what was once her breakfast and stormed off.
"Pretentious jerk!" She mumbled under her breath, as she turned back to look at him before continuing on her way. Looking down at her watch, causing her to shout and pick up the pace. "Oh, I'm late!" She shouted, and he watched as she ran off in the opposite direction. Running towards, her extracurricular activities. .
a/n: I hoped you enjoyed this! Should I make a part II? Mamoru definetly owes her some fresh cream puffs don't ya think?

My Usagi x Mamoru Fanfic Recommendations
This post came from @maythevoidnotscreamback who asked me to take the time to mention some of the Usagi/Mamoru centered fanfics I have enjoyed over the years and give my recommendations.
First I’d like to give an honorable mention:  I have recently finished the entire Lunar Chronicles series by the fantastic Marissa Meyer and find her style to be captivating. For those unaware, she got her start as a fanfic author under the name Alicia Blade. I plan on dedicating my time in 2025 to getting through her stories.
Tumblr media
Next up: I want to make another mention for unfinished fics. I feel bad getting people addicted to stories which don't have an ending but I can’t help but want to mention them because they are so good.
For the good of a Kingdom by Silent_Figure: I have skimmed this one for the most part but it has a lot of potential. It features a rift between Endymion and Serenity and it seems like the author is trying to get them back together. Until I see it though I’m hesitant.
After All This Time by SunRedDreamer: The newest story on this list and I am hoping the author will be able to finish it. Mamoru awakens after Galaxia took his star seed only to find Crystal Tokyo has come and Usagi has become Queen by herself. It’s highly addictive and I can’t get enough of it.
Sailor Moon X by Starling_Sinclair: One of the best re-writings of the original season. Usagi is an adult when Luna awakens her to being Sailor Moon.
Mine by PeachBunnyBaby: My first exposure to the Alpha/Omega/Beta style of writing and the pining between Mamoru and Usagi is palpable.
At World’s End by Shnuggletea: After being defeated by a monster, Usagi wakes up to find the Dark Kingdom has taken over the world. From there she had to reunite with all her friends and connect with Mamoru at the same time.
Tumblr media
Now for the main list. I’m going to try and limit these to one story per author. There are a lot of
Interlude by Sexylyon: The oldest story on the list and shows just how long I’ve been in this fandom. In a period where everything was tentacle stories and poorly written sex scenes, this small novella tugs at the heartstrings.
Desperate and Divine by Antigone: Mamoru and Usagi’s time apart goes much longer than predicted. Unfortunately, Usagi feels like she’s wronged Mamoru in a way that is unforgivable. It’s an element  of their relationship I enjoyed someone tackling.
It’s always been you by Beej88: Ever have a fic come to you at exactly the right time? I was just thinking about a story where Usagi’s family adopts Mamoru after his parent’s car accident. From there, its childhood friends grappling with the feelings of love they have for one another.
R is for Reverse by Daikon1: Mamoru has to be the one to fight monsters during the Makai Tree saga. A look at the lengths Mamoru is willing to go through to make Usagi happy.
To have and to hold by Lin_Lamont: Usagi and Mamoru are getting married. Not a lot of drama but a lot of great smut and loving between the pair.
Poisoned Mind by Shnuggletea: A dark Endymion story where his need for Usagi remains despite the brainwashing. It features a lot of great action and even more intimate moments.
How to love a princess by WildRIverInTheSky: Another Season 1 retelling but allows the Senshi to reconnect with their Shitennou lovers. At the same time Mamoru and Usagi are deeply in love.
Shattered Pieces by Max333: Mamoru and Usagi are divorced but circumstances are bringing them back together. Not Rei friendly but the longing Usagi and Mamoru have for each other is palpable.
The heatwave by Rei0ki: A great non-power story. A kiss leads to something more and the sexual tension between Usagi and Mamoru is high. I checked the websites regularly for updates. It was that kind of a story.
Infidelity by Spinneroftales: This one has a special place in my heart. It’s a look at Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion’s married life. It (along with my own headcanon of those two enjoying a healthy sex life for their 1000 years of marriage) helped to inspire me to write my royal affairs series. It’s a great story and I highly recommend it.

UsaMamo Week 2024 - Day 4 - Free Day
I'm late with this one, but better late than never, yes? This themeless installment just so happened to line up with wild card day. Fortuitous, no? A note to those of you who have read my previous posts in this series: I've added a timeline of sorts to the beginning of each chapter in order to make things a little easier to follow as we jump around. Day XX BU (Before Usagi) & AU (After Usagi)
(This is the third part. You can find Ch. 1 & Ch. 2 here.)
(Tentative) Title: A Matter of Timing Summary: Aged up, Friends to lovers UsaMamo Non-Senshi AU told in a series of snapshots. Rating: T (for language) Words: 3058
Free Day
Day 491 AU
“I know, I know! I’m late, but you would not believe the day I’ve had.”
Minako looks up at Mamoru with the expression of one who is not amused. "Har har har," she deadpans before smacking the seat of the empty chair beside her. "Sit your ass down, Chiba. You're three rounds behind."
Mamoru smiles and rolls his eyes before stepping aside. "Happy to, but we're going to need another chair." Minako blinks when she notices the woman to his right. “Everyone, this is Yūki Tomoko.” Minako’s eyes zero in on his right hand which is currently hovering directly behind the small of Tomoko’s back. “She’ll be joining us tonight." Minako’s eyes narrow.
All other eyes at the table go wide and a thick, palpable silence descends over the group until a shrill, “Hi, Tomoko-san!” rings out from the back. Mamoru’s eyes fly to the face he’s been dreading/anticipating seeing all week long. Even from a distance he can tell that Usagi’s cheeks are visibly flushed, but that’s more than likely due to the three empty beer bottles in front of her and not the fact that he’s brought a mystery woman to one of their gatherings for the first time since they met. He tells himself that that’s fine. That bringing Tomoko here tonight isn’t about seeing how Usagi reacts.
He figures after downing three or so beers of his own that’ll be easier to believe.
“There’s a free chair over here!” Usagi bellows, waving one arm in a wide arc. Makoto catches the rogue limb with a deft hand before it can hit her in the face. “Let me just—” There’s a screech of metal on tile and about two seconds go by before Mamoru realizes what she’s about to do. He reaches Usagi just in time to stop her from going ass over teakettle when she heaves the empty chair up off the floor. Makoto has frozen halfway out of her seat and is giving him a look that is part astonishment, part admiration. Mamoru shoots her an awkward smile as he settles Usagi back into her chair.
“Oh em gee, she’s so pretty!” Usagi hisses in his ear in the loudest stage whisper known to man.
Mamoru can feel the heat flooding his own cheeks now, but he manages to nod even though all he can think is, ‘Nowhere near as pretty as you are.’
It’s not until he’s carrying the empty chair back to a waiting Tomoko that it occurs to him to wonder why there’s an empty chair at all. Someone must be missing. His brain catalogues all of the faces he’s seen in the time it takes to swing his head back in Usagi’s direction. Makoto’s on her right, Ami’s on her left, and the douchebag is nowhere to be seen.
***
Forty minutes later Mamoru’s still wondering where Usagi’s jag of a boyfriend is. The guy has been glued to her side for months now—four months to be precise—crashing one get-together after another, trying to insert himself into their tightly knit group, seemingly oblivious to the fact that everyone but Usagi sees him for the pompous gasbag that he is. Mamoru wants to ask someone—mainly Usagi—where the chode is tonight, but he hasn’t had a chance. Bringing Tomoko to their regular group night has caused quite the stir. An eventuality that he had counted on but is now regretting.
The group has been peppering her with questions ever since she sat down and Mamoru can’t get a word in edgewise. Tomoko is completely at ease amidst a sea of inquisitive strangers as he knew she would be. He’s seen her manage raving meth heads in the ER without breaking a sweat, so she’s more than capable of handling this crazy bunch. Tomoko is intelligent, but not pretentious, confident, but not arrogant, witty, but not sarcastic. She is the perfect plus one and Mamoru cannot wait for her to leave.
Tonight is not going at all how he’d planned.
Reika draws Tomoko into a discussion about Cairo—they’re both avid travellers—and Mamoru leans back in his chair and tries to feign interest while keeping his gaze from wandering down the table. He thinks he’s been doing a decent job of the former, not so much of the latter. It might be easier to focus if he didn’t find Usagi staring back at him every second glance. Makoto has cut her off and swapped her to soda but her cheeks are still rosy. He wants to go over there and talk to her but he can’t. Right? That would be rude.
Right?
“You’re staring.”
His gaze slides to the left. Minako is eyeballing him. He doesn’t care. “Where’s—”
“Twat-wad?” Minako answers before he can finish. Her gaze flits to Usagi. “Not here.” That’s all she offers. Hard to say if that’s all she knows. She glances at Tomoko who is laughing at something Motoki has said. “Your date is charming.”
“She’s not my date.”
“Does she know that?”
“Yes.”
Minako drops the side-eye and looks him full in the face. Mamoru holds her gaze. After a few beats she raises an eyebrow and leans back in her chair before turning her eyes to Usagi. “Hmm…” she hums. “Interesting.” That’s all she says, but Mamoru knows that’s not all she’s thinking.
***
Tomoko joins him at the bar twenty minutes later. “Now that is a chatty crew.” Mamoru offers her an apologetic look but she just laughs. “They’re really nice. I never would have guessed a nerd like you would have such cool friends.” This isn’t the first time he’s heard this, and he doesn’t really know what to say so he just shrugs and takes a sip of his beer. “I don’t get it though, I thought you brought me here to appease a jealous boyfriend. Where’s Mr. Insecure?”
“MIA, apparently,” Mamoru answers, stealing another glance at Usagi. She’s hugging Ami and trying to coax her into staying for one more round. Usagi knows Ami won’t stay because she’s got an early morning and she’s the most responsible one in their group, but she’s asking anyway because she knows it makes Ami feel loved. Usagi is amazing like that.
“Damn, you’re in deep. No wonder he’s jealous.”
Mamoru jerks to attention to find Tomoko studying him with wide, sympathetic eyes. He opens his mouth to speak then realizes there’s nothing he can say so he just sighs and runs a hand through his hair. Tomoko laughs and pats his arm. “I won’t tell you it gets easier because I know how much it sucks, but who knows? He didn’t show tonight. Maybe your luck is about to change.”
“I don’t believe in luck.”
“Well then, I guess you’re fucked.” Mamoru nearly spits out his beer. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand then gives Tomoko a questioning look. She crosses her arms. “If you really don’t think luck is going to lend a hand, then you better stop watching from the sidelines and get in the game. You’ve brought me here to play defence when you should be on offence.”
He raises an eyebrow. “Offence?”
“Who cares if the boyfriend is jealous? It’s her attention you’re after,” Tomoko tells him, nodding her head at Usagi. “You want me to help you get it?”
They stand shoulder to shoulder as Mamoru considers her offer. Ami is finally parting from the group, but Usagi is insisting on walking her all the way to the door. Usagi never lets anyone leave without at least two goodbye hugs. Everyone complains about it but she never seems to care, and she always gets her hugs. No matter how much they grouse about it they all humour her. Because they love her. How could they not? She wears her heart on her sleeve. There’s not a false bone in her body.
Mamoru turns to the bar and sets his empty bottle on the polished wood. “Thanks, but I’m not interested in playing games.”
“Then why did you bring me?”
Mamoru sighs. “I told you. He doesn’t like me. He thinks I’m a threat.”
“Yeah, but why do you care what he thinks?”
“I don’t. I could care less what he thinks.”
“Then what—”
“He’s a jackass, but for some reason beyond my comprehension he seems to make her happy. Except for when he’s sulking like a petulant child.” Mamoru takes a breath and flattens his palms against the bar. “I didn’t bring you to spare his feelings, I brought you to spare hers.”
Tomoko lays a hand on top of his and quirks her mouth in a half smile. He tries to mirror the expression but his heart just isn’t in it. The harsh sound of shattering glass makes them both jump and whirl around. Usagi is standing in front of them and her feet are surrounded by shards of broken glass. She stares at the pair of them like a deer in the headlights for two, maybe three beats, then her face turns beet red and a string of barely intelligible apologies—and several curses—spout from her lips as she drops into a crouch. Mamoru and Tomoko cry out in unison when Usagi reaches for the glass, but they’re too late. The damage is done, blood is already seeping from her left palm, and everyone is springing into action.
A waiter is rushing up with a broom, Tomoko is asking the bartender for a first aid kit, and a chorus of voices are crying out in concern. Mamoru is only vaguely aware of all this though because ninety nine percent of his focus is on Usagi. He scoops her up from the floor and into his arms before she has time to fully register the injury. It seems like the natural thing to do; he doesn’t want her to step on any of the glass, and as he makes his way to the restrooms it simply never occurs to him to bother putting her down. It’s possible she’s protesting, but he’s too busy deflecting the group and telling Tomoko to bring the first aid kit to the ladies’ room to listen. It’s not until he gets inside and sets Usagi down on the counter next to the sink that Mamoru realizes how fast his heart is beating. He’s pretty sure it’s not because of the extra cardio.
He takes a breath and looks at Usagi. “Are you okay?”
She blinks up at him with those wide blue eyes of hers. “Yeah,” she says but her voice is shaky.
After a few more breaths he feels calm enough to take a look at her hand. The wound doesn’t seem very deep, he needs to clean it to be sure, but it doesn’t appear to need stitches. He raises his eyes to her pale face and shakes his head. “Didn’t anybody ever tell you not to touch broken glass?”
Usagi looks instantly repentant which makes him regret the gentle rebuke. “I wasn’t thinking. I’m sorry.”
“What? Don’t apologize,” he tells her, reaching over to turn the faucet on, “you have nothing to be sorry for.”
“I ruined your moment.”
The quiet comment throws him off balance and he shoots her a puzzled look. “What moment?”
Usagi peers up at him from beneath her lashes and Mamoru’s heart skips a beat, but his question goes unanswered because Tomoko arrives with the first aid kit. Mamoru sees Usagi’s immediate blush but he doesn’t have time to dwell on it because there are more important things to focus on. He gets to work cleaning the wound. Tomoko offers to assist but makes no comment when he insists on tending to the injury himself. After they agree that stitches aren’t necessary—Usagi looks particularly relieved to hear this news—Mamoru dresses the wound. Usagi has been unusually quiet throughout. Mamoru chalks it up to shock.
“Looks like you’ve got this under control,” Tomoko says. Mamoru pretends not to notice the edge of amusement in her tone. “I’ve got an early shift tomorrow so I’m going to take off.” She flashes Usagi a genuine smile. “It was nice to meet you, Usagi. Take care of that hand.”
Usagi nods and offers her a shy smile in return. “Nice to meet you too, Tomoko. I hope you’ll come again. I promise not to bleed next time.”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep,” Mamoru says dryly.
Usagi shoots him a quelling look. “Quiet, you.” Mamoru smiles.
Tomoko laughs at the pair of them then turns and heads for the door. She lifts her hand in a casual wave and calls, “See you at the hospital, Chiba,” without turning back, and then she’s gone.
It’s just the two of them again.
Usagi gazes at the bathroom door for several moments before turning her eyes to Mamoru. A faint blush lights her cheeks when she finds him watching her. This small reaction kindles a glow of warmth inside his chest.
“Tomoko seems really nice,” Usagi says. Her voice is soft and sweet and maybe just a little bit timid. It’s not like her to be shy.
“She is,” Mamoru agrees, taking a small step closer to her.
“And smart,” she adds, raising her chin to hold his gaze.
Mamoru nods and places his right hand on the edge of the counter a scant few inches next to her left thigh.
Usagi swallows. “And she’s a doctor.”
He smiles. “Yes, she is all of these things.”
“You two look good together.” Mamoru looks past her, to their reflection in the mirror. He knows he’s biased, but he thinks they look good together. He wonders what Usagi saw when she was watching him with Tomoko. What she was feeling. Was it anything like how he feels when he sees her with—
“Usagi, where’s Hideyo?”
Her smiles dims and she looks away. There’s an excruciating pause during which Mamoru holds his breath, and then Usagi says the three words he’s been longing to hear for four long months. “We broke up.” It takes every ounce of Mamoru’s considerable self control to swallow the whoop of delight that bubbles up in his throat. Usagi stares down at her bandaged hand and mumbles, “Don’t tell Minako. I’m not ready to hear ‘I told you so’ yet.”
It’s not easy to force his features into a sympathetic expression when he’s feeling nothing short of ecstatic, but Mamoru understands that this breakup must be painful for her so he focuses on that and the urge to dance a jig begins to fade. “What happened?” Translation: how did the asshat fuck it up again?
Usagi’s gaze flits to his face then back to her hand. “I don’t…really want to talk about it.”
“All right.” He doesn’t really want to talk about it either. Sayonara, shithead.
“I just…” Maybe she does want to talk about it. “I think I made a mistake getting back together with him, and I’m mad at myself for being so stupid.”
“You’re not stupid, Usagi.”
“No, just hopeless.”
The bitter reply hangs in the air between them, reminding Mamoru that if anyone in this bathroom is stupid, it’s him. He cups her shoulders in his hands and waits for her to look up before he speaks. “I should never have said that. I was out of line.”
Usagi shakes her head from side to side and leans forward into his grip just a little. “You were being honest with me, just like Minako was. That’s what real friends do. They tell each other the truth, even when it’s hard. I want you to keep telling me the truth.”
‘Okay, I love you.’
He gives her shoulders a gentle squeeze. “Okay, I will.”
“Even when I don’t want to hear it?”
He nods. “Even when you don’t want to hear it.”
‘I hope you will though.’
“Good.”
Usagi smiles and Mamoru experiences a flash of perfect awareness. A window has opened. A perfect moment of opportunity, and there’s no telling how fleeting it might be. He’s had a number of chances like this before and he’s squandered each and every one of them. He promised himself it wouldn’t happen again. That when the time came, he’d be ready. The secret he’s long been harbouring unfurls in his chest and suddenly it’s too massive to contain. It rises up in his throat, sails along his tongue, and presses against his lips, begging to be set free.
“You’re a terrible singer.”
Usagi’s mouth drops open as Mamoru stares blankly into the mirror behind her head. A complete fucking moron wearing his face stares back at him. It’s unclear who, out of the three of them, is more shocked by what he’s just said.
“Shut up!” Usagi snaps, eyes sparking with indignation. She swats his chest with her uninjured hand for good measure. “I am not!”
Mamoru looks down at her and part of him wants to die. To just curl up into a ball right here and wait for death to claim him. But another part of him can’t help but notice how impossibly, unreasonably, irresistibly cute the girl in front of him is. That part of him thinks maybe it’s worth sticking around. You know, to see what she does next. He could go either way, but…
Usagi thrusts a self-righteous finger in his face. “I’ll have you know that some people really like my singing! I’ve been compared to Adele.”
Mamoru blinks. “Human people?”
“Shut up!” Usagi huffs as she hops down from the counter. “What do you know? Listening to you sing karaoke is like listening to an ox strangling a goat.” She sticks her nose up in the air and stomps off.
Mamoru stares after her in bafflement for a beat before jogging to catch up. He reaches the door and pulls it open in time for her to sweep through without missing a step. “An ox strangling a—what does that even mean?”
He’s gonna stick around. It’s definitely worth it. She’s definitely worth it. He wants to see what happens next. He’s got a good feeling that it’s going to be amazing. He can’t wait.
Today wasn’t the day. It wasn’t the right time. He wasn’t ready.
But he will be. One day soon, he will be.

Chaos Theory Act 76 Teaser
I don't think I featured Mamoru in a teaser scene yet. First time for everything!
As always a partial scene.
Tumblr media
He’s worried if he confronts Usako too soon she’ll shut down. He used to being the one she always confided in. It’s tearing him apart to know she is struggling so much and he can’t do anything to help her.
Ayumi sits across from him at the table in his room. She is not as willing to bite her tongue. “So are we going to talk about it?”
Mamoru looks up from the page he has stared at for the last ten minutes. “Talk about what?”
Ayumi rolls her eyes. “You’ve been spending a lot of time with Setsuna-san lately.”
Mamoru doesn’t understand what Ayumi is trying to say. “We’ve been talking about things.”
She nods her head, waiting for him to elaborate. He doesn’t. So she tries a slightly different approach. “It’s a good thing we were all there when Sailor Cosmos appeared and attacked her.” No response. “How is Sailor Pluto?”
“I’m not sure, I haven’t heard from her in a few days.”
Ayumi turns her head slightly at his response. “That’s surprising considering how close you’ve become.”
Mamoru gives his sister a questioning look. “What are you trying to say?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Is she going to have to spell this out to him? “You protected Sailor Pluto from Sailor Cosmos. Heck, you even attacked her.”
“I would have protected anyone from Sailor Cosmos,” Mamoru begins to explain dismissing Ayumi’s remarks. “Usako would be upset with herself if she seriously hurt someone.”
Ayumi doesn’t believe his response. “I guess you’re lucky you just happened to access a new power at the moment.”
“Sometimes new powers surface at random times.”
“Random…right…” Ayumi shakes her head at his remarks.
Full chapter will be posted on 10/5 with more insanity on Kinmoku.

I've been writing little self indulgences as both practice and just personal wish fulfilment without drawing the scenes in my head. And while I don't particularly think I'll be posting them on AO3, I do think it'd be fun to just share my favorite snippets here in blog form! And since it's (almost) Christmas this can be a little gift to my followers who may like my writing.
This one I'm sharing here is my response to the 90s R season Break Up Arc. It sorta feels like not much is changed from episode 77 until Episode 83 even though Mamoru and Usagi get back together. So I wanted to write why I think that is.
My headcannon that drove this story: Mamoru is still having nightmares and while he promises that he won't give Usagi the cold shoulder anymore, he needs time before he's at ease being a proper couple. That is until certain truths come to light.
It's not the whole thing, I'll post it in snippets. But this is currently my favorite piece of fanfic that I've written. So I wanted to share it with fellow fans <3
Apologies for any tears, it's a little sad. Cuz as I've said before I love angst.
Kicks off at the very end of episode 77 and slightly extends the last scene:
Tumblr media
After months of anxiety and stress it felt like he was dreaming. Was he really holding Usagi right now? Was he really kissing her? It was almost too good to be true. But… that's also why he decided it was. In his mind the warning played on a mantra.
“Usagi Tsukino will die on the day you are married. Stay away from Princess Serenity.”
He held her tighter and deepened the kiss when his anxiety rose, shutting his eyes tighter just trying to block out everything but her. When it became too much, he parted away from her lips abruptly and tightened his embrace as if he was afraid she'd vanish should he let go. “Usako…” it was all he could do just to get her name out.
“Mamo-chan?” she asked with concern in her voice just above a whisper. “Hey… what is it?” She pulled away to look at him. When he didn't respond she brought a hand to his face. “You're shaking.”
“I'm …” he paused. “I'm sorry. I- I can't.”
“Mamo-chan, talk to me. Don't go through this alone.” He opened his eyes cautiously and found hers full of concern and love. Love he didn't deserve. Not after the way he had been treating her.
“Usako… Everyday that I pushed you away or told you we were through… or called you weak.” he raised a hand to cup her face and his other hand moved to her back. “I never meant a single word of it. It was all a lie. I only… I only said any of it because of those nightmares… They terrified me. They still terrify me.”
“But we’re going to face it together. You're not alone in this anymore.”
“I… I don't know that we can be like we were until… until I know the danger has passed. This Black Moon clan… I can't relax with the constant threat they pose. The nightmares have to go away before I can feel at ease holding you…” He touched her forehead with his. “I'm sorry… I need time.”
Usagi looked down visibly hurt. “Oh. Okay.”
“No, I don't mean-” He pushed her at arms length to look at her face, shaking his head. “Usako, I'm not going to treat you the way I've been. It- it killed me to be so cold to you. I won't do that to you. I promise.” He sighed. “But… it can't be as it was before either. Not yet.” She was silent for a few moments. “Usa, please tell me you understand. It's not that I don't want to be with you.”
She replied with a weak smile and a nod of her head. “It's okay. I understand.”
He let out a sigh of relief with a twinge of regret “Thank you… Usako. I will never truly deserve you.”
“Don't say that. You'll make me mad.” she said playfully but still with an air of sadness. He laughed softly.
He was fighting the urge to pull her in for another kiss. But to do it would confuse her and he didn't want that. Instead he moved his hands to grab hers and smiled. “Can I walk you home?” It took a few moments but as she took in his meaning, she beamed up at him and he took that as all the invitation he needed. He lightly squeezed her hand and led her at his side to her parents house. He said good night to her with the hope that in the morning he would take her in his arms and tell her that the nightmares were finally gone.
Wishful thinking. That's all it was.
Like clockwork, the wedding is interrupted just as he kisses her, she cries, a catastrophe occurs that separates them and takes Usagi away.
That voice returns commanding as always “You cannot escape from this, Mamoru Chiba! Usagi Tsukino will die should the two of you marry.”
“No! Stop lying to me!!” Dream Mamoru covered his ears tightly with the palms of his hands. “Stop this! Leave us alone! Stop tormenting me!!!” He fell to his knees “Just let us be together.”
Mamoru spoke in his sleep “please…” as a tear fell from his eye.
In the morning Mamoru rose from his bed, not well rested at all. He walked to Crown in deep thought.
Why? Why would she be shown my dream if we can't be together? Why did she have to know if nothing has changed? He sighed, heartbroken. “Am I… am I not allowed to love her?” He balled a fist at his side. “No. I don't want to accept that.” He walked through the doors of Crown and stood at the entrance lost in thought but was suddenly brought out of it by Usagi linking an arm with his pulling him to the counter.
“Mamo-chan! Come on! Chibiusa is playing the Sailor V game!” She giggled as she gave him little choice but to follow. “She's gotten really good!”
“Okay, okay. But can I have my coffee first?” he said trying to unhook his arm from hers.
She looked back at him and her smile faded then her eyes panned down to their linked arms and it was like she only just realized she was holding onto him. “Oh! Right, sorry!” A blush crossed over her face and she quickly released his arm. “You- you go and get that.”
Her hands clasped in front of her and she turned from him. Was she embarrassed? “Usako, I-”
“Oi! Usagi! I just beat your high score!!!” Chibiusa shouted from the game console interrupting him.
Usagi immediately turned her attention to the pink bunned child. “What!? No way!” she whined already having walked away from him. The instant her warmth left him he wanted it back. How could it be that he wasn't supposed to feel this way? If that were true then how could everything about her feel like home?
He sat down at a stool close enough to the girls as they argued and bet over who was the best Sailor V player. He rested his chin in his palm and observed them. Even with all that was transpiring; the droids, the Black Moon Clan, Chibiusa’s mother, the future in danger. They still found time to be carefree. He envied them. How he wished he could distract himself from the dread he always seemed to feel these days. His gaze shifted from the two of them to focus on Usagi. She was taller since he first met her and her hair even seemed longer. She was maturing and growing even more beautiful than she was already. A cup and saucer was placed next to his elbow and Motoki started pouring black coffee into it.
“Hey, you okay Mamoru? Something on your mind?” He turned his attention to his blonde friend.
He sighed and picked up the hot cup by the handle. “No… I'm…” he paused. Part of him wanted to tell Motoki. To have someone to confide in, but Motoki didn't know about the double life that 6 of his regular patrons were leading. He couldn't burden him with that knowledge. “I'm okay. Thanks.”
“Come on, what did I say last time?” Motoki nudged the brooding teen with his elbow. “You can talk to me about anything.”
Mamoru looked back at the girls. Usagi had taken control of the Sailor V console as Chibiusa hovered over her shoulder in the stool next to her. The blonde looked adorable as she put her all into winning even against pixels on a screen. It was the same determination she showed in real battles.
“Hey, Motoki?”
“Yea?” Motoki responded while he wrote in a notepad.
He spoke without taking his eyes away from her. “If you were in love with someone but no matter what you did, the world was telling you it was forbidden… that you couldn't be together… what would you do?”
Motoki looked up from his task and followed Mamoru’s gaze with understanding. A soft chuckle escaped him as he stuffed the notepad and pen in his apron pocket. “Well, I guess the first thing I'd do is ask if she loved me back. Does she?”
Mamoru turned to face him a bit caught off guard. But he conceded and lowered his head with a smile. “I think so.”
“Yea, I think she does too.” Motoki smiled in a way that reminded Mamoru how much he appreciated his friendship. If not about youma battles or reincarnation, he could at least tell him about Usagi. Motoki rolled back on his heels. “As for the forbidden part. I guess we’d just have to prove the world wrong.” He cleared his throat “Unless ‘the world’” he raised both hands and his fingers in an air quote gesture, “refers to parents. In that respect I wouldn't rush anything.”
Mamoru started with a nervous smile raising his hands in front of him “Oh- no, no nothing like that.” and he too cleared his throat. “No… unfortunately… that would be much simpler.” Mamoru lowered his head again, smile fading and Motoki looked at him with sympathy.
“But, Mamoru. Does she know?”
Mamoru responded with a low voice, lifting the cup off the saucer again “Know what?”
“That you love her.” Looking into his untouched coffee cup he considered the question. Did Usagi know? Surely he'd said it once…
“I don't have feelings for you anymore.
“The red string of fate that connected us has been severed
“I do not like girls who are weak
“Why should I have to be your boyfriend just because of what happened in a past life?
“It can't be as it was before”
Mamoru winced at the memory of all the cruel things he said to her. He put down the coffee cup with a soft clink. No. He hadn't told her even once. Not when his memory returned, not after their first date. He just assumed she knew. But now, especially now with all that's happened, he couldn't be sure.
“No. I'm not so sure she does.”
To be continued

A Prince Comes Home (UsaMamo Week Day 2)
My contribution for Day 2 of @usamamoweek 2024, "Meet the Parents", is a companion piece to On This Day, a Prince Was Born, and also subtly references All the King's Children.
Though all three can be read separately, I encourage reading the other two first to experience the full effect of this piece. Both are pretty short.
Lastly, I must credit this stunning artwork by @sugarmint-dreams for inspiring this story by providing the vision of eternity.
~ * ~
Summary:
She hoped he knew, and would always know, how much she loved him, even when he was one day too big or too far for her to hold. — On This Day, a Prince Was Born

Minako organizes (by throwing together at the very last minute) Game Night to help the senshi blow off some steam on a rare night off.
Rei picked a small red box up off the table. “‘Love Letter’?” she grimaced. “This is going to be a long night, isn’t it?”

Hello friends!! It's been so long since I've posted/written anything but I miss it so so much I thought that I'd try my best to write a little drabble to force myself back into it :))
Tumblr media
She had always thought that the story humans told of Selene and Endymion had been ridiculous.
Now, watching the soft rise and fall of his chest and the delicate pout of his lips, she didn't think it was that crazy of a story after all.
I would love for you to check it out!!

So, I'm finally doing a thing...
After many moons of tedious, painstaking effort I have finally reached a long awaited goal: I've finished a story. A story I've been wanting to tell for, well, a long time. Having accomplished this monumental task (for me at least) it is now time to YEET it out into the void and turn my beleaguered brain to other tasks.
I am equal parts nervous and excited to finally begin freeing this beast from the deep recesses of my hard drive, but I promised myself I would do so when the time came and the TIME HAS COME.
Without further ado, I present to you:
Divergence
Summary: In order to rescue a boy she hardly knows, defeat an enemy she's never met, and save a world she'll never truly belong to, Tsukino Usagi must first accept a destiny she never wanted. An introspective re-imagining of season one's final arc told from Usagi’s perspective. What do you do when the sins of a past life come back to haunt you? How do you stay true to yourself when the lines of identity begin to blur? And when it comes to fate, do you ever really have a choice?
My thanks to everyone who gives this labour of love a looky-loo, and I hope those of you who choose to take this journey with me (and Usagi) will find it worthwhile.

Also, don't forget to check out the prompts for @usamamoweek2023!
As always, my apologies in advance for spoiling some of these for you (Fic Titles are linked to either FFN or AO3 entries).

Tequila, Salt, Lemons: Chapter 3: A Coital Cure?? Usagi's Hiccups Won't Go Away!! - @daikon1
This one somehow slipped through the cracks for the medical assistance post. Mamoru uses his medical knowledge (and his magic fingers) to help Usagi get over a bout of hiccups.
Odango - @sailorspacecougar
During peak of COVID lockdowns, Usagi figures out a way to help Mamoru keep a piece of her with him at work and ease his anxiety a bit.

Thankful for the wonderful triage nurses, Dr Chiba gets to see his wife (in glamour), in spite of the craziness that is ER.
