It’s time. If you haven’t already seen your doctor or nurse and been examined professionally, PLEASE do so. And continue to do so regularly. As someone whose immediate family has been touched by breast cancer (mother and sister), I know the importance of everyone getting their checkup. Early detection saves lives.

Mostly managing to avoid the hordes with torches and pitchforks. There are at least fewer of those over here than Xitter or the elephant app (and my brain helpfully supplied "mamogram" which I at least edited out this time)

I think tumblr is going into a direction where it hates any way ai is implemented because its ai and i dont think that is a productive stance. Like you can criticize how its developed under horrible labor conditions and with little regard to the environment but this is not inherent to ai technology. It is perfectly possible to develop it while trying to do minimal harm to the environment and good labor conditions for the workers, but its not happening because it cuts into the profits of capitalist who are in charge of the development of ai technology. And tbh this applies to any piece of technology, from computers to water bottles. AI technology is already used for good purposes like aiding doctors to find cancer in mamograms and making art more accessible to physically disabled people but because its in the hands of capitalists it has the horrible shortcomings it currently has

mamogram and ultrasound today! both came out more or less clear, only one small bump thing they wanna follow up on in 6 months but they don’t think it’s cancerous so i’m all good! nothing coming up to explain why i have occasional pain but otherwise all DR stuff done for the year!

in the spring i wanna get an appointment with my dentist, optometrist, titty followup, ortho and maybe see if i need that back surgery, and talk to a psych or something to see if i have adhd or autism (because i have suspicions)  :D

Hey yall, I will be taking a small tumblr hiatus, but before I officially remove my app, I think it's important for all the caregivers and their people out in the world to hear this,

I am an extremely private person (in my private life), but lately, it's been one thing after another. As of late, most all of the women in my life have needed some sort of medical attention. From assisted living facilities because of dementia to surgeries, mamograms, biopsies, and everything in between. I am always the go-to person when someone needs a rock, but lately, it's been more than I can handle.

Please, please, make sure you (as the caregivers) are also taking care of yourselves and your mental health. It's more important than you know. It's hard to be someone's rock when you are crumbling yourself.

so I had my first mamogram yesterday, and honestly, it wasn't the torture that everyone always makes it out to be. Awkward, mildly uncomfortable, and the awkward part was the 'hold this position, don't breathe, but also try to relax' so really it was no biggy. Really I was just thinking how much more difficult it must be for those with smaller breasts, 'cause like, I've got a decent amount, but how hard it must be to get enough boob in for a b or a cup... oof!

But they called me back, to have more taken, and an ultrasound and breast cancer runs in the family and now I'm anxious af. so in a week I'll get to go have more imaging done. I'm sure it is fine. Everything is fine. But I also really kind of want to cry.

Hello! My mom is ok they found some spots in her mamogram that weren’t there last year so they did a biopsy. I think she finds out sometime this week if it’s cancerous or not (I haven’t been able to concentrate on school bc of how worried I’ve been) Im working on pharmacology rn and I want to rip my hair out 😗 I have a test next week and I have no idea what is going on lol. But the good news is I got a 94 on my fundamentals exam and I think I got the highest score in the class. I saw your kitty came and snuggled with you the other night and I was so happy when I read that!!! I bet in a few weeks she will be running around you’re house. Give her a little kissy for me

I’m literally so upset my mom had to get another mamogram done and it showed calcium deposits that weren’t there last year and there’s a chance she might have to get a biopsy done. Breast cancer runs on my moms side of the family and I’ve been a nervous wreck all day I just want to cry 😭

October is breast cancer awareness month

This is something that I speak about every year as it is near and dear to my heart.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 45, she was one of the lucky ones, after having a mastectomy she didn't need chemotherapy or radiation and she went on to be completely healthy until her seventies.

My aunt was not so lucky, she waited when she found a lump and she died of breast cancer way too early.

I have been getting check ups since I was in my late 20's. Every year I get a mammogram and a sonogram and I encourage all my women friends to do the same.

Here are some startling facts from the Breast Cancer Association:

-About 40,610 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2017 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1989.

-Women under 50 have experienced larger decreases. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness.

-For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, besides lung cancer.

-Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. In 2017, it's estimated that about 30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women will be breast cancers.

-In women under 45, breast cancer is more common in African-American women than white women. Overall, African-American women are more likely to die of breast cancer. For Asian, Hispanic, and Native-American women, the risk of developing and dying from breast cancer is lower.

-As of March 2017, there are more than 3.1 million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S. This includes women currently being treated and women who have finished treatment.

-A woman’s risk of breast cancer nearly doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Less than 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it.

-About 5-10% of breast cancers can be linked to gene mutations (abnormal changes) inherited from one’s mother or father. Mutations of the BRCA1 and BRCA2

genesare the most common. On average, women with a BRCA1 mutation have a 55-65% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer.

-For women with a BRCA2 mutation, the risk is 45%. Breast cancer that is positive for the BRCA1 or BRCA2

mutations tends to develop more often in younger women.

-An increased ovarian cancer risk is also associated with these genetic mutations. In men, BRCA2 mutations are associated with a lifetime breast cancer risk of about 6.8%; BRCA1mutations are a less frequent cause of breast cancer in men.

-About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer. These occur due to genetic mutations that happen as a result of the aging process and life in general, rather than inherited mutations.

-The most significant risk factors for breast cancer are gender (being a woman) and age (growing older).

These facts are both good news and bad news for us as women but again the best prevention we have right now is early detection.

We must encourage each other to take care of ourselves, to make ourselves a priority in our lives. On a plane the one thing they teach you over and over is if anything happens put the air mask over your face first, then over your loved ones.

Same advice in life, you must take care of you first in order to take care of others. So take the time today, call your girlfriends, make a day out of it. Go together, have some wine afterwards and laugh how things would change if men had to get their dicks smashed in a machine all ways till Tuesday but don't put it off. Do it for your loved ones, they want to keep you around for a long time.
