We went to California for a week or so last month and did some driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. Being back in the practice of making photos I couldn't resist the opportunity to lug my clunky, metal four pound Mamiya C33 along.

In my last post I shared photos from Massachusetts in December which might as well have been taken on a different planet entirely from this batch.

I've lived in Las Vegas for close to eight years now but despite that the trip last month was my first time seeing the Pacific Ocean, let alone the non-desert parts of California.

When I first moved out to Vegas I described it to my friends and family back home as like having landed on Mars but with casinos in the grocery stores. Seeing this part of California for the first time was similarly jarring.

Of course you have the fantastic ocean views, beach towns, and all that goes with them - sort of the stereotypical idea I've had of California for most of my life - but you also have these stretches of absurd green hills that make you feel like you somehow woke up in Windows XP.

All told, it was great to finally make it to the Pacific and I look forward to seeing even more of the coast someday soon.

I recently picked up a vintage Mamiya C33 and have been playing with it whenever I can in my short off-season. When I pick it up it feels like I am holding the past in my arms. When I gaze down at the viewfinder I feel like Vivian Meyer, seeing the world through and grainy and timeless filter. When I press the shutter button I feel like I am creating something really special.

I'm in Western Massachusetts for most of December for the Holidays, and decided to take advantage of the snowy weather to jump back into film photography.

My last photos were taken some two years ago, and I forgot how much I enjoyed the process.

These photos were all taken at Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke, MA. The reservoir is one of my favorite places - I remember coming here for the first time, was in the Spring or Summer a long time ago, and was blown away that there could be somewhere so nice minutes from home.

When there's not snow on the ground, there's really no better place I could imagine to go for a run. In High School and the few years after before I moved out to Vegas, I'd come up a few times a week to get some miles in.

If I tried to go for a run anytime soon I'd probably regret it, but after a few fast, hectic years away it was nice to slow down and take a walk in the snow anyway.

Creating is easy nowadays. It’s easy to pull out a camera or phone and snap something so that you can smile about it later.

The idea that you can cherish your captured moment is why I fell in love with photo taking at such an early age. I love reliving life through my snaps. Plain and simple.

I recently picked up a vintage Mamiya C33 and have been playing with it whenever I can in my short off-season. When I pick it up it feels like I am holding the past in my arms. When I press the shutter button I feel like I am creating something really special.

Here are a few of my favorite snaps from Zander and I’s afternoon exploring the Getty Museum. Protip: If you are local or visiting LA I can’t recommend enough going midweek. Crowds were low and you can waltz about at your own pace without feeling anxious or rushed to see it all.
