Rest Stop, Highway 91
Cars parked alongside a chain-link fence overlooking houses that have no view,    plates from three bordering states aglow       in the light from a hillside billboard    filled with a glass of milk—Holyoke just beyond the notch, slumbering    like a rain-soaked paper on the porch—      checkout boys from the local A&P    hanging up their aprons, clocking out on a night that is young only once    in a stranger’s car—the taste of skin       on clandestine tongues, freckled swirls    down creamy backs in constellations left unnamed, stiff cocks under boxers     crammed into that vinyl dark perfumed        by a four-inch cardboard pine dangling     above the illuminated dash, windows veiled with frost. They say the leaves will fall     earlier this year, like so many apples        plastered on the hill, wooden barrels     filling up with rain while children turn in their sleep—deaf to the sound of engines    running, their fathers behind the wheel.

A hike up to Scott Tower. Completed in 1942, this 54 foot tall structure was built as part of "Anniversary Park," created in 1923 to honor the 50 year anniversary of the town of Holyoke. The park is now permanently closed and abandoned. It's a 1 mile walk to the summit of Craft Hill where the tower sits. There is a staircase that leads up to the top where you can enjoy views of the surrounding area. There are also many overgrown trails and staircases that lead up the hill but I wouldn't recommend taking them. Because there are also warnings everywhere about ticks which are becoming a very serious problem currently due to the effects of climate change.

Here Comes Santa Claus!
Pioneer Valley RR CF7 2647 chugs past some old abandoned mill buildings in the city of Holyoke, Mass., with the annual Santa Train on Friday evening, December 2, 2011. The train, enroute to the Holyoke Heritage State Park, ran in conjunction with the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony held in downtown Holyoke.

New Haven Railroad wood caboose C-347 is spotted on a siding at Holyoke, Massachusetts, March 24, 1934. The line to Holyoke came from Westfield on a spur line where it connected to the main line (Canal Line) to New Haven. These home built wood caboose in the C-300 to C-419 were constructed using old box car steel underframes in the East Hartford Shops in 1927-1928.

I'm in Western Massachusetts for most of December for the Holidays, and decided to take advantage of the snowy weather to jump back into film photography.
My last photos were taken some two years ago, and I forgot how much I enjoyed the process.
These photos were all taken at Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke, MA. The reservoir is one of my favorite places - I remember coming here for the first time, was in the Spring or Summer a long time ago, and was blown away that there could be somewhere so nice minutes from home.
When there's not snow on the ground, there's really no better place I could imagine to go for a run. In High School and the few years after before I moved out to Vegas, I'd come up a few times a week to get some miles in.
If I tried to go for a run anytime soon I'd probably regret it, but after a few fast, hectic years away it was nice to slow down and take a walk in the snow anyway.

Dot Dash Sounds (Brooklyn, New York) has absolutely nothing to do with the Washington D.C. band of the same name. TomDash - a WMFU DJ and creator of the label, and "Zax Armoire" is one of the first in what hopefully is many for the fledgling label.
The Bandcamp page has given us a RIYL of "Mudhoney, Dead Moon, Stooges, DMZ, Blue Cheer, Monoshock". And even though Red Herrings are based in Holyoke, Massachusetts I would add New York bands like The Men, Bambara and Cheena to the RIYL list.
