We went to California for a week or so last month and did some driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. Being back in the practice of making photos I couldn't resist the opportunity to lug my clunky, metal four pound Mamiya C33 along.
In my last post I shared photos from Massachusetts in December which might as well have been taken on a different planet entirely from this batch.
I've lived in Las Vegas for close to eight years now but despite that the trip last month was my first time seeing the Pacific Ocean, let alone the non-desert parts of California.
When I first moved out to Vegas I described it to my friends and family back home as like having landed on Mars but with casinos in the grocery stores. Seeing this part of California for the first time was similarly jarring.
Of course you have the fantastic ocean views, beach towns, and all that goes with them - sort of the stereotypical idea I've had of California for most of my life - but you also have these stretches of absurd green hills that make you feel like you somehow woke up in Windows XP.
All told, it was great to finally make it to the Pacific and I look forward to seeing even more of the coast someday soon.

Ultimate Guide to Road Tripping Across the USA
For cheap and best Travel Bookings - https://tripsdeals.com/
Embarking on a road trip across the USA is a dream for many travelers, offering the freedom to explore diverse landscapes, cultures, and iconic landmarks. Whether you’re planning a cross-country journey or a scenic route through the states, this ultimate guide will help you make the most of your road trip adventure.
1. Plan Your Route
The United States is vast, and planning your route is essential. Some popular routes include the historic Route 66, the Pacific Coast Highway, or the Great River Road. Think about the places you want to visit, such as national parks like Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, or vibrant cities like New York City or San Francisco. Mapping out your itinerary will save you time and energy, ensuring you don’t miss must-see attractions.
2. Choose the Right Vehicle
Choosing the right vehicle is key to a comfortable and enjoyable road trip. If you're traveling with a group, consider renting an RV for the convenience of having your own space to rest and cook meals. For solo travelers or couples, a fuel-efficient car might be your best bet. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition, and carry essential car maintenance tools, like a spare tire, oil, and jumper cables.
3. Pack Smart
Packing light is essential, but make sure you have everything you’ll need for the journey. Bring clothes for various weather conditions, as temperatures can vary widely across regions. Don’t forget toiletries, a first aid kit, and portable chargers for your devices. A cooler with snacks and drinks is a must for long stretches of road, saving both money and time.
4. Budget for the Journey
Road trips can be affordable if you budget wisely. Keep track of gas prices along your route and aim to refuel in areas where gas is cheaper. Consider staying in budget-friendly motels or campsites rather than expensive hotels. There are also plenty of free attractions, such as hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and historical landmarks that will make your road trip memorable without breaking the bank.
5. Be Safe on the Road
Safety should always be a priority when road tripping. Ensure that your car insurance is up to date, and make emergency contact numbers accessible. Follow traffic laws and always wear your seatbelt. Also, remember to take breaks when needed to avoid fatigue. Rest stops, local diners, and even small towns offer great opportunities to recharge.
6. Enjoy the Journey
While it’s tempting to rush to your destination, don’t forget to enjoy the journey itself. Take detours to explore quirky roadside attractions, visit local restaurants, and connect with fellow travelers. The best part of a road trip is often the unexpected discoveries along the way.
In conclusion, a road trip across the USA is a fantastic way to experience the country’s beauty and diversity. With proper planning, the right vehicle, and a flexible mindset, your adventure will be an unforgettable experience.
