Okay, give my brain a Minute to formulate its latest spitball. So, if I got this right, while the wish that Raziel promised to the shadowhunters could have been used for anything, it was kind of universally understood as a failsafe in case of demonic overrun. Like: "Okay peeps, so here is the tea. If you mess up and can’t do what I hired you to do and take care of pest control, you can ring me up and I will do you a solid. As in a one time spring clean deal, got it? If the critters get too much, I will come down and sweep them off the mundane plane. But after that, I expect you to keep the invasion levels to a minimum. Cool? Cool."

Like that, right? No talk about closing the rifts permanently. No talk about destroying all greater demons and hell realms (which I honestly don’t buy that Raziel could, even if he is the head honcho feather thing. That would make him far too op) One time deal, will make all demonic blood disappear, and give the shadowhunters the opportunity to gather back together to then continue their work without getting overrun. So the demons will, in time, get back to earth, just not in such overwhelming numbers. And the shadowhunters will fight them again. Just now, if the wish has been granted, there are no downworld allies. No warlocks to close rifts or ward institutes or heal wounds. No vampires or werewolves who might have taken care of some stray demons on their turf before. No seelies to ask for assistance on any matter.

Okay, now lets pretend that the wish was used by a shadowhunter like Valentine, without true cause and for asshole reasons, decades or even centuries before the show's start. Now you have a generation of shadowhunters cursing the very name of the bigoted asshole that robbed them of any downworld support, wasted the wish, and left them to deal with facing being overrun by demons for real. The few downworlders that have come into existence since the wish are treasured allies, but they are no where near the numbers or power/experience needed. And then one day, a warlock fights his way out of the hell dimension that his father has kept him in for the far too fucking long!!!

That is the day that Magnus Bane comes back into a world that has drastically changed.

The amount of digging, stalking and over analyzing that required for yall to now say “it was obvious” and “we were right all along” is one of the reasons they never went public with their relationship before actual marriage, just like Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez getting engaged and Keith and Becky habersberger out of nowhere telling they had a baby.

I’ve been a fan of smosh for like 12 years and the shipping (yes, I know they said they don’t care, but even if they said to stop yall wouldn’t anyway) and nitpicking every single interaction between cast members (I’m not even gonna get into the fanfics and inappropriate comments) were why I kept my interaction with the fandom to a minimum.

Im happy they’re married, really. I’ve been happy for other influencers before. The issue was never denial. I did wish it was a prank because I knew this exact response was going to happen.

This feels like fans were trying to out them when they weren’t ready. If they truly felt safe making the relationship public, they wouldn’t have gone to lengths they did to hide it. Poor Courtney probably had an engagement ring that she couldn’t wear because of fan reaction. I mean, I remember seeing proof of them together through reflections on a glass! It isn’t normal.

A similar situation has happened in a fandom before. Remember when fans were speculating about a Malec wedding in the shadowhunter finale? Finding every single piece of evidence on social media, bts footage, etc? And in the ending the characters got married? But you know why that wasn’t weird? They were fictional characters, made to entertain us, with story arcs. No actual person was at stake.

And you know, I love smosh and obviously this rant isnt directed towards the fans who are just surprised and happy for them (which I am too, congrats to them), but it still bother me.

Publicly, they were coworkers in a comedy channel who made jokes, played characters, played games, etc. Smosh has never been about romantic relationships between cast members and it saddens me that the fans made most of it about shipping when they have so much more to offer.

The point is, we are not entitled to information about their lives and speculate about it. Too bad this can’t be a learning experience because congrats, yall were “right all along”.

PSA: WHY THIS STORYLINE IS SO MUCH BETTER IN THE SHOW

let’s get to it y’all. I wouldn’t have hated the storyline of alec being upset Magnus is immortal if CC didn’t write it. she makes alec biphobic, has him storming out of almost every conversation, has alec trying to make Magnus mortal. NO TO ALL OF THAT. this is only about Malec TMI. the writing hasn’t improved but in TMI, it’s the worst

1. I don’t like how it’s not in Alec’s pov. why do we have Simon listen casually watching them fight and then making some remark how they’re all drama? last time I checked, they all have drama but saying or thinking it about the only lgbtq+ couple in the story so far is fucked

2. yes, Alec is a teenager but all of this is out of character for him. there is a huge difference between alec in tmi vs the eldest curses. and it’s partly because CC isn’t dominating the story and making it all about jace or giving alec the shitty parts.

3. Alec isn’t 100% to blame for this mess. so is Magnus. he’s hundreds years old and can’t communicate? also very out of character for Magnus in my opinion. Magnus in eldest curses is much better

all in all, the way the books handled Malec is upsetting but also childish. it goes to show that CC would have rather made them petty, childish, and toxic rather than giving them growth and actually spending time with the storyline and not putting all the focus on CLACE. shows where CC and her priorities lie

now let’s get to the good stuff. show alec!!!!!!

this is kind of the only time that Alec gets a little childish. he’s upset that Magnus will live on and on and they won’t grow old together. I think it speaks volume that as soon as Magnus tells Alec to stop acting as a child, he regrets his words

and this is why the show will always be so much better. they have disagreements, but they talk it through. they’re healthy and put their feelings into consideration. not once was alec biphobic. he was scared in a way that Magnus had many partners but only because he’s new to being in a relationship. Alec also doesn’t make it a huge thing. plus that reaction to 17,000 will always be iconic lmao

he’s not storming off (just this once) or hatching up a plan to make Magnus mortal. also Magnus communicates. if he senses alec isn’t over something, he talks to Alec and even goes as far to say I’ve had 17,000 partners and it’s all in the past. in the books, alec basically has to beg Magnus to open up smh

one of the many reasons show Malec will always be superior. Alec gets a voice, he has feelings he’s actually allowed to feel, and he’s not toxic. Magnus communicates, he’s not chasing a 17 year old Alec, and easily one of the best characters

it’s why I’ll never understand why people think the books are better. there’s no growth, the writing is lazy, and it has not improved. no world building, repetitive storylines that don’t go anywhere, and everything is toxic and stale. yes the show is a mess but they improved 7281791828% of it

all in all, alec handled this much better. even comes back to apologize and makes things right. I think that’s beautiful and one of the many reasons we love and cherish alec and also Magnus 🥰

In the every single reaction of the ending of 3x20 of the Shadowhunters that I've seen:

*Clace kissing and talking about their love* "That's cute and all, but do we really have time for this? I mean, there's the war and the possible end of the world going on!"

*Malec reuniting, kissing and talking about their love* "Yes, this is what we have been waiting for! They can have their moment for as long as they like!" *+ different kind of freak outs about their proposal-scene*

And it's both hilarious and valid, at least to me.

"I can't make it next Wednesday," Alec tells him, picking up his shirt from the floor.

"Oh," Magnus says from bed.

"I need to go to D.C. for a meeting with the Veep," Alec explains, even though Magnus didn't for an explanation. "Thursday?"

Magnus wants to say yes. But he shakes his head instead. "Rafael will be home."

Alec, who is buttoning up his shirt, stills at that.

It's a reminder.

That this is a lie. That this is temporary.

That this, despite the orgasms and the obvious pleasure, still hurts.

He expects Alec to simply suggest another date. Alec is a problem-solver at heart. This shouldn't be difficult.

If not Thursday, then Friday. If not Friday, then Monday.

Not Saturday or Sunday though. Those are for the children.

Another reminder.

"I thought he has lectures on Thursday," Alec says instead. "Is he skipping classes?"

Alec is quiet for a moment. Then he nods. "Good. Take him with you."

Alec used to come with Magnus before. To all the doctor's appointments. To any place where Magnus felt unsafe and uncomfortable.

Alec would come. He would stand there and glare at the people who made Magnus feel that way or he would stand there and hold Magnus' hand in his own.

Either way, he'd come.

Every time.

He wonders if Alec would come if he asked him now. He wonders if Alec would be mad at him for asking.

A small part of him - just about the size of the Zoloft he swallows every morning - wants to poke him and see if he'd get mad.

He wants a reaction.

Desperate. Angry. Sad. Hurt. Betrayed.

Anything.

But Alec is not being any of that right now.

He is standing at the edge of the bed and checking his calendar to see what other day he could make it work.

Alec is being practical.

It's Magnus' least favorite version of Alec Lightwood.

Because there is only a thin line between Practical Alec and Politician Alec.

On some days, Magnus likes to stand in between the two and see how long he can exist there until Alec notices his feet are hurting.

"What about next Monday?" Alec asks now.

"Monday works," Magnus replies.

"Cool," Alec nods and finished buckling up his belt. "I'll see you then."

"Alec."

"Yeah?"

"What.. are we now?"

He doesn't know why he asks it. He doesn't know what exactly it means either.

But he asks anyway. He pokes.

"We are two people who are meeting up on Monday to have sex because our children are both out of town," Alec replies. "Is that good enough for you?"

Practical as ever.

The response leaves a bitter taste in his throat. Magnus swallows it down like an anti-depressant on a good day.

"Yeah," he replies. "See you Monday."

Malec Monday Mini

“Alexander, please”, Magnus choked out and held the taller man close. There was no reaction to his embrace. “You told me that you’d never leave me. Remember? You’ve can’t...” He trailed off.

“Magnus, you have to let go of him.”

So I just reread your unicorn/phoenix Malec and I have to say I love it. And while I really do want know everyones reaction to the new soulmate duo in town I had this thought that made me giggle: Alec and the other baby shadowhunters in a sacred ritual observed by their dotting parents/any curios shadowhunter (lots) soul searching their form and it being announced to a lot of clapping/cheering one after another. Then Alec with the cutest smile: Unicorn. Cue everyone freaking out. Panic.

so i already wrote a bit where he first shifts *he kills his dad and a bunch of others* and so that doesn't quite work? but i loved the prompt so i kind of used it? and i'm hoping you still enjoy this

Unfortunately for the rest of Alicante, Alec’s presentation and shift is kept as quiet as possible until Jia Penhallow can gather as many adult members of the clave to Alicante as possible.

It becomes routine and Maryse watches with a hardened heart as Alec slowly gores his way through executing over thirty nephilim adults.

It’s terrifying how many people Jia introduces him to and how many people he kills and how he only gets bigger and stronger each time his horn pierces a nephilim and executes their soul. His secondary form is twice as big as it should be for his age, but it’s not hurting him, and he barely tolerates her interest when it’s valid, so she does nothing.

Sometimes, her baby is merciful and only kills them, other times he gores them viciously, splintering apart the golden tendrils of their soul and severing their tether to Raziel.

It takes weeks for it all to end and it’s when Alicante is finally purged from the filth that Alec takes offense to, Maryse is begging Jia to follow through on the original deal. Maryse cannot stay in Idris with two children, not when one of them is being used as a divine sword of execution and angelic justice. Not if she wants anything of Alec, her baby, to remain or ever be salvageable.

It’s hard, taking Alec to New York and intending to leave him there while she finishes getting things ready, but she wants him out of Alicante. Where all the nephilim watch him with fear and awe alike.

“Maryse Lightwood.” The hunter says, cool and detached and utterly uncaring which means absolutely nothing.

“Trueblood.” Maryse corrects with a tight smile, because she won’t have Alec wear his father’s name when he killed the man. He’ll be her heir because he spared her, he found her worthy in a way that he didn’t Robert, for all that he avoids and is rarely near her. “My son has shifted and been given his first runes. By Jia Penhallow’s orders, he’ll be staying here at the Institute by himself until I and his sister arrive.”

The hunter gives her a dismissive look but then grits their teeth into a fake but not unkind smile and looks down at Alec with a grimace.

“So kid, you have a good form then? Going to be a hunter?”

Alec smiles up at them, his small face too sweet for the monster of justice that lurks beneath and Maryse shudders at the sight.

“I don’t have to hunt.” Alec says, looking at the grizzled hunter curiously. “My prey will always find its way to me.”

“Oh?” The hunter asks, clearly trying to play along with what they think is childlike nonsense. "What kind of animal are you?"

“I’m a unicorn.” Alec says with a smile and the hunter misses their next step, pallor draining as they look down and finally recognize the glint of Alec’s smile for what it is. “My prey will always find me when it’s time to be put down.”

Maryse swallows hard and reminds herself that she can’t run her fingers through Alec’s hair, or even face him when he smiles like he is now.

Not when he’s looking at the people around him with something both hungry and divine in his gaze.
