Two New Tiaras in Johor
The installation of the new King of Malaysia on Saturday provides us with not one but two new tiaras!
The Sultan of Johor is a billionaire and the wealthiest of the Malaysian monarchs. They also have one of the largest collections of jewelry rivaled only by Pahang. I think this brings them up to nine tiaras just in the immediate royal family.
The first new tiara was worn by Princess Aminah for the ceremony itself. At first I thought the central colored gemstone was an emerald but now I am thinking tourmaline.
The second is a sapphire and diamond tiara worn by the new Queen, Zarith Sofiah, at the banquet following the installation ceremony. I found a better picture of this one.
Overall, I really like the design of both tiaras. The are substantial but not overwhelming and the both look well made. I was very excited when I saw that they are not flat meaning they were made by someone who understands that heads are also not flat. Trust me this is a rarity with modern tiaras.
I haven't found the designer for either tiara yet but I've sent out some messages so we'll see if that pans out.

Miranda Kerr dated a Malaysian Businessman (who is a wanted fugitive back) in 2014. Just look him up. I’m sure she didn’t just date him cause she loved him.
All these models and actresses know what they’re doing when they date and marry someone who’s rich but unattractive. They only love them for their money. Shit, I think Miranda’s only married to her current husband because he’s insanely rich
Miranda has dated so many billionaires. The girl has game and secured the best looking one.

I'm bringing this back because this take about the Musk–Zuck fight was so stupid. Facebook bad but:
Huge companies like Meta are getting sued all the time; they don't need to "bury" any stories about this because they're not that impactful and people also do not care about them that much. The reason Zuckerberg and Musk made a huge deal about the fight is because they're egomaniac billionaire CEOs.
The Canadian link tax law (and others like it being planned around the world) is terrible because it's trying to destroy the way the web works so that media companies can make more money. It's yet another worrying way in which companies are balkanising the internet and restricting people's freedom of speech and ability to communicate.
The Malaysia thing was about Facebook allowing lèse-majesté, freedom of opinion and homosexuality on their site which the repressive Malaysian government really doesn't like.

The met gala invite conspiracy is ridiculous, but maybe Timmy is getting paid 🤷♀️. The Kar-Jenner family are billionaires. If you think he's above that kind of thing, please keep in mind that DiCaprio (world's 1# movie star and Timmy's hero) was paid in money and gifts by a Malaysian billionaire to be his friend. That world is very weird and transactional.

A Helping Hand for Charity.
With a £1.05 million ($1.28 million) buy-in, the event also offered the biggest first prize in the history of tournament poker – £19 million ($23.1 million) but it was the second-place finisher, American Bryn Kenney, not Zang, who came out with the biggest pile of cash.
As the two players prepared to face one another heads up at the London Hilton in Mayfair’s Park Lane, they agreed to a chop. Since at this stage Kenney outnumbered Zang 4 to 1 in chips, he took the lion’s share, £16.9 million ($20.5 million), to Zang’s £13.7 million ($16.6 million).
But Zang clawed his way back against his more experienced opponent. The payday may have been smaller, but it was still the third biggest ever prize in poker tournament history – and it was always about the trophy, right guys?
“Miracles happen,” mused an emotional Zang afterwards.
Kenney Tops All-Time Money List
Kenney’s $20.5 million tops the previous record of $18.3 million won by Antonio Esfandiari at the first ever Big One for One Drop, which was held at the 2012 World Series of Poker.
The score catapults Kenney to the top of poker’s all-time money list, with an extraordinary $55 million in gross earnings, over $30 million of which has been accumulated in 2019 alone.
As well as his record score in London on Saturday, the 32-year-old Long Islander has picked up seven-figure wins at other Triton events in South Korea and Montenegro, as well as a score just short of $1 million at the Aussie Millions.
Like the aforementioned Big One for One Drop, the Triton event in London will donate a portion of the prize money to charities — in this case £50,000 ($60,750) of each buy-in.
That means the tournament raised $2.7 million for largely Hong Kong-based charities, dedicated to advancing medicine and improving the lives of disadvantaged children in Southeast Asia.
Who Owns Triton Poker?
Triton was founded by two Malaysian billionaire high-stakes poker players, Paul Phua, a former junket operator and bookie, and Richard Yong, a data mining and IT magnate.
The pair were at the center of the biggest cash games in the world when poker erupted in Macau, circa 2010.
Just as wealthy Macau-based businessmen, like Phua and Yong, discovered of Texas hold’em, online poker was effectively shut down in the US by the Department of Justice.
That saw the best American pros, like Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan, skedaddle to Macau, many with copies of Cantonese for Dummies stuffed into their carry-on baggage.홀짝게임
Macau’s big game, which later moved to the Philippines, was notoriously secretive and poker fans would hang on for whispers of pots that had escalated into tens of millions of dollars.
Triton is essentially the public face of the big game – high-stakes poker transplanted into an open area, attracting the biggest players on the high-roller circuit, usually to Asian destinations, like Macau, Manila, and Jeju, South Korea. This is the first time the tour has stopped in London, and only the second time in Europe.
The record numbers at the WSOP this year showed that, despite reports to the contrary, poker is very much alive and well in the West. But it’s also booming in the East. And they like to play big.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s billionaire king Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar was installed on Saturday, six months after he was sworn in for a five-year term under a unique rotating monarchy system.
The coronation at the national palace formalized the sultan’s role as Malaysia’s 17th king in a ceremony steeped in Malay culture and pageantry. It was televised live to showcase the history of the Malay sultanate.
Nine ethnic Malay state rulers take turns as Malaysia’s king for five-year terms under the world’s only such system, which began when Malaysia gained independence from Britain in 1957. Malaysia has 13 states but only nine have royal families, some which trace their roots to centuries-old Malay kingdoms that were independent states until they were brought together by the British.
Sultan Ibrahim, one of the country’s richest men, has an extensive business empire ranging from real estate to telecommunications. The 65-year-old monarch from southern Johor state has good relations with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and is candid about Malaysian politics, having spoken out against corruption and racial discrimination.
More than 700 guests attended the coronation, including Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Bahrain’s King Hamad Isa al Khalifa. The ceremony will be followed by a royal banquet Saturday evening.
What is the king’s role?
Known as the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, or He Who is Made Lord, the king plays a largely ceremonial role, with administrative power vested in the prime minister and Parliament. The monarch is the nominal head of the government and armed forces and is highly regarded as the protector of Islam and Malay tradition. All laws, Cabinet appointments and the dissolution of Parliament for general elections require his assent. The king has the power to proclaim an emergency and pardon criminals.
Sultan Ibrahim succeeded Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang state, who presided over a tumultuous period that included COVID-19 lockdowns and political instability.
The political influence of the king has grown in recent years. Sultan Abdullah intervened to decide who should become prime minister, including designating Anwar after a 2022 general election led to a hung parliament.
Sultan Ibrahim has indicated he will maintain a hands-on approach. Before becoming king, he told the Singapore Straits Times in an interview that he would not want to waste five years on the throne as a “puppet king” but would focus on fighting graft and deepening unity in the country. The sultan and other rulers have also warned against attempts by the opposition to oust Anwar’s government, calling instead for political stability.
Who is Sultan Ibrahim?
Sultan Ibrahim, whose mother is English, is vocal about welfare issues and makes annual road trips on his motorbike to meet the people in his state.
He has also made no secret of his wealth. Apart from a fleet of jets, he has an extensive collection of luxury cars and motorcycles, as well as properties abroad. He is also the only one of the nine rulers with a small private army — a condition agreed upon for the state to join modern-day Malaysia.
Sultan Ibrahim’s high corporate profile — including a stake in the multibillion-dollar Forest City development project in Johor with China’s beleaguered developer Country Garden — has raised eyebrows because of concerns of a possible conflict of interest. He told the Singapore Straits Times that he plans to revive a high-speed rail link project with Singapore and bolster the troubled Forest City project.
The sultan has defended his business dealings. In 2015, he quipped that he has to “earn a living, like ordinary Malaysians” as he cannot rely solely on his 27,000 ringgit ($5,700) monthly state allowance.
His wife Raja Zarith Sofiah, who is from another royal family, is an Oxford graduate and a writer who has authored several children’s books. They have five sons and a daughter.

The deliberate Pagani Residences, aside from contributing to South Florida's rising pattern of branded condominiums, can be a part of a wave of improvement within the three island metropolis of North Bay Village. Builders have spent an estimated $191 million on North Bay Village websites in recent times. New York developer Harry Macklowe and Miami-based Associated Group purchased a 3-acre web site for $47.7 million in November. "...Malone, who declined an interview request for this story, appears to have been stung by the furor that erupted in media circles when Stelter was let go last week. In an email to the New York Times, he said he had nothing to do with Stelter’s departure, adding that while he wanted “the ‘news’ portion of CNN to be more centrist ... I am not in control or directly involved.”
Malone doubled down on that argument in another Times story a few days later, complaining that CNN had melded opinion and news, and holding up “Fox News host Bret Baier … [as] a reliably centrist newscaster.”
Which, again, echoes what new CNN boss Chris Licht has been telling employees he wants to do with his network — to remove the perception, which he thinks is accurate, that CNN has a liberal bias, and that too much of its programming has become “outrage porn.”
I’m with Licht, by the way, when it comes to critiquing CNN’s reliance on breathlessness in general. And an early decision he made to tamp down its use of “breaking news” branding for almost every item it talks about is a fine idea.
But arguing that CNN lost its way during the Trump era seems like a misguided critique, given that CNN, like every other news outlet, was dealing with an unprecedented circumstance: Americans had elected a president who routinely lied about everything and whose destruction of democratic norms was capped off by an effort to overturn a free election.
I think it’s also important to understand how 24-hour cable TV news operates: Viewership spikes when there’s a genuine news event, but beyond those rare moments, news channels struggle to retain viewers. Which is why all of them gin up fake urgency about whatever they think their audience will respond to.
Pre-Trump, CNN’s solution was to focus on jaw-dropping but not terribly important events and talk about them incessantly — see, for instance, its round-the-clock coverage of the “Poop Cruise,” which involved a Carnival cruise ship and ... poop. Or the mysterious disappearance of a Malaysian airliner, which prompted CNN anchor Don Lemon to ask if a black hole might be the culprit..."
A boycott of CNN has begun for their hosting of Trump. #Boycoytcnn
