Siddig:
Stories about Andy Robinson. Ahh, god! *crowd laughs* Everyone thought Andy Robinson — the Garak character — and Julian Bashir for years were possibly a homosexual couple. *crowd laughs* And he actively encouraged that! That was actually all right! That was all right. Except it didn't leave much room for Bashir to do any stuff, you know?
But I don't really have many stories about Andy —
Nana Visitor:
You know, you just made me think, "I've gotta bring this bit" —
Siddig:
You got a good story about Andy?
Visitor:
No, I got a clip, an outtake that they sent me from one of the last shows we filmed of me not being able to keep a straight face —
Siddig:
Ohhhh, Andy's speech!
Visitor:
And Andy saying some waaay over-the-top line, saying it in typical Andy fashion. And it was too much for me. We were in the Cardassian hell(?) chamber and you know all of that, and I laughed.
I laughed take after take after take and he kept saying "Come on! Pull it together! Pull it together!"
And it was something like "We'll cut off the worm's head!" and it was like, it was really like —
Siddig (being completely wrong lol):
Ohh yes, I remember this scene! It was the scene where he was explaining how to eat worm!
Visitor:
No no no
Siddig:
Ah *crowd laughs*
Visitor:
About a time in the Cardassian thing, and —
Crowd member:
"Cut off the snake's head and the body will die."
Visitor:
*gleeful* "Cut off the snake's head and the body will die." Thank you very much, that's exactly the saying. In typical Andy, you know, really big — and he was committed to that line, both feet in, and it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard in my life. *crowd laughs*
Siddig:
To add one thing: people had to be really careful working with Andy, you always had to keep him in a good mood. Not because he was naturally an angry man, never! You meet him generally and he's like the sweetest guy you could ever meet. He's like a teddy bear, you push it over.
But once he's in that stuff — he's in literally a wetsuit glued to his body...he gets hotter and hotter. Andy has no heat retention capability whatsoever. *crowd laughs* Two minutes in that suit, he's like, *impressively good Andy impression* Okay, I'm gonna blow......Let's get this over with... *jerking his head back and forth in rage* Cut! Cut! *enraged sounds* *crowd laughs*
Every day, he's like a little powder keg, you gotta be a little careful with Andy; you can ask him about that. I think Wednesday I'm doing something with Andy and I don't know if you're gonna be there but if you are, ask him that. *clenched teeth* "Andy's gonna blow...Andy's gonna blow everybody" — and he did, often.
Visitor:
Oh yeah.
Siddig:
*pretending to be Andy "blowing" again*
Visitor:
And when he blows, he blows big-time — but a lot of people did, in the makeup — it gets to you after a while. When I was a Cardassian for twenty hours, I was in this makeup, I started to say to the director — I do not do this, I am professional — I started to pull at it and say "That was it, that was your last take"
This is a clip from a YouTube upload by Mary Knasinski of Sid and Nana in Missouri in 2000. They are asked about working with Andy and Nana recounts an outtake of being unable to stop laughing to get a scene done with Andy that then irritates him because (as Sid says) for Garak he was “in a wetsuit glued to his body” and he can’t stand the heat, thus he wants to get his scenes done as soon as possible so he can get out of costume. Sid then goes on to give THE best impersonation of an angry and irritated Andy that only a best friend can do so wonderfully.

Did it ever occur to you that I’m a pacifist and would never raise a fist against anyone, even if they were a hateful piece of trash like Julie Bindel? And did it also occur to you that the reason I’m pro-makeup is because I recognize the health benefits that come with putting effort into your appearance? Aside from women getting paid more if they wear makeup, they also get more compliments, which boosts their self-esteem. I don’t get why you think that’s oppression. Do you care so little about Middle-Eastern women (who are treated like property, BTW) that you just made up ways you’re oppressed in The First World?
Finally, just because I’m a guy doesn’t mean I don’t care about women. In fact, it sounds like I care about them more than you or Julie do.
I honestly have no idea why radfems are so against the idea of wearing makeup. I used to wear it all the time, and I got a lot of compliments from people about how pretty I looked. I just style my hair now (or, at least, i’m learning how to XD), but still, why don’t radfems want to look pretty? I mean, look at Julie Bindel: that chick’s face is punchable. And, no, i’m not just saying that because she lied about getting punched by a trans girl (see below); i’m saying that because i think she’s ugly.

That's all true, or so I've heard. It must be true for many. It's sad that it continues to be perpetuated.
I realized when I was 16, after observing girls and women who wore makeup, that it would destroy my skin if I wore it. I briefly gave in to peer pressure to wear eyeliner, found it boring, and stopped.
As a result, at 44 I still look younger - as if I'm about 10-15 years younger is how people guess.
I've noticed over the years that women who wear makeup don't seem to have more privilages than me, at least where I live. When I was dating men, I never had difficulties getting their attention with my looks and charm, or competing with women for dates, which I've noticed at least a fair number of women do.
I also never seemed to have difficulty finding work.
I'm confident as an adult even though I'd been knocked down in life; bullied as a child for being studious.
Sure, I was rejected sometimes by men back when I was dating, and it hurt a lot, but never made me want to become what I think of as superficial, by becoming obsessed with pretending I look like someone else.
I hope that isn't offensive, as I'm sure women who wear makeup have valid reasons. I wouldn't presume to understand or judge what their lives have been like.
I've tried to understand why feminists need, or feel they have the need for masking through wearing makeup.
Even though I'm on the spectrum and so I get some types of masking, I don't understand that type of masking. And btw, no, I was never a diversity hire due to neurodiversity.
If anyone is feeling uncomfortable with what I've written here, I'll share something personal.
I've always thought there was something wrong with me since I was pre-teen girl, because I never naturally "developed" emotionally the way others did.
I'm the original (and the only one that makes sense) definition of asexual.
I thought something was deeply flawed with me as a human being, because I was ridiculed by everyone.
I thought I had to fake it til I made it, or I would be a freak who would never be normal cause I would lose my friends. I thought, ok, I'm a late bloomer as some people say, so eventually this will feel natural. So, I tried having relationships with men, because I was brainwashed by society that there was no other way to ever fit in. They all ended, mostly in temporary heartache.
So that's probably the reason I never gave in to wearing makeup.
Makeup-obsessed girl: You have nice skin. What's your routine?
Me: Hot water and soap.
Makeup-obsessed girl: ...Oh. Have you ever thought of just using eye makeup? I can show you the best type of concealer and best colours for you.
Me: No thanks.
Makeup-obsessed girl: Come on, are you sure? You said you're single, well, you want to stand out, right?
Me: No. I'm happy single.
Makeup-obsessed girl: ...What about your eye-brows? I know a quick -
Me: I said no thanks. I think everyone looks better without makeup. Wear it if you want, even though it's unhealthy because it ages skin and contains harmful chemicals linked to health problems. I see no reason to be ashamed of my natural face, and I don't care that some people think I'm ugly. Nature is beauty and as a part of nature, I'm beautiful.
~
The brainwashing to tow the line for patriarchy is sad in all kinds of ways. Usually when I have this kind of conversation, the other woman reacts as if I'm being rude for stating a preference and trying to prompt her to research the harmful effects of makeup.
And if I thought it was a friendship that was developing, then it goes nowhere.
The wild animals who coercively rape them are fawned over, yet the rest of us women who don't sacrifice our own dignity to fit in and put our throats up for men to slice, are discarded.
