One criticism of LMK I don't agree with whatsoever is that "LMK villainizes Wukong."

It doesn't. It really doesn't. The show's portrayal of Wukong is meant to be a flawed individual with good intentions, and the main themes of the show center around not letting the past define you and growing past your mistakes. While not every villain is redeemed, the clear message of growth is there within the main cast, especially with them being reincarnations/descendents of the Pilgrims. And Wukong's major character flaw is closing himself off, and this is very much connected to these themes.

MK, at the beginning of the series, idolizes Wukong. While he does acknowledge that Wukong was a troublemaker in the past, it's not elaborated on nor does MK really think about it. MK is excited about his new powers and meeting his hero for the entire first season!

It isn't until season 2 that doubt really starts to creep in, where this idea that Wukong is a perfect hero starts to fracture in MK's eyes. We, as the audience, know that Wukong is investigating LBD and trying to keep MK safe by leaving him behind; but to MK and the characters in the show, they take Wukong's word at face value. If Wukong says he's going on vacation, then he's going on vacation. While they're not pleased about it, they don't have a reason to believe Wukong is doing anything else. And that's what Wukong wanted, nobody following him and putting themselves in danger. He's the immortal monkey, he can handle this himself, in his opinion that is.

And then LBD gets the staff, and they finally learn where Wukong truly was all this time. The main group rightfully feels a bit hurt, they trust Wukong but Wukong didn't trust them. We know his reasons, but we can still empathize with the others' hurt and confusion. This doesn't make Wukong the villain or a terrible person, though. He wasn't plotting behind their backs, he was trying to handle the threat by himself.

In season 3, the most vocal person regarding their distrust of Wukong is Pigsy. Even before Amnesia Rules, Pigsy scrutinized Wukong's meditation and even the validity of the map to the Rings. And then Amnesia Rules happens, where Wuking reveals that there aren't just 3 Rings of Samadhi but 4.

Pigsy is rightfully suspicious, and its meant to give suspense to the audience as well. Why didn't Wukong tell them about the 4th Ring?

And then we learn the whole story: Wukong slipped during the ritual, and one of the Rings ended up forming inside Ao Lie. Mei, as a descendent of Ao Lie, now carries the fourth Ring. When it's revealed, Nezha specifically mentions the fire possibly burning Mei to a crisp. This is also when we learn that Wukong's plan was to extract the Ring from Mei and harness the power of the Samadhi Fire hinself.

Wukong's main fault in this entire scenario was his tendency to push people away and keep things to himself. His desperation when they begin the ritual without him also points to him not wanting Mei to get hurt. He also feels responsible for the Ring being in Mei in the first place.

His plan was flawed from the get-go, not because he's an evil villain, but because in trying to handle things by himself he pushed his new friends away from him, and created a situation where they couldn't trust him. We see this trait of his again when he goes to fight LBD alone, he feels responsible and wants to handle it by himself. His mindset is constantly looping between "I'm responsible for this" and "Don't get the kid and his friends involved." And what the show is trying to tell us is that he should reach out for help, and that this isn't a healthy mindset.

In season 4, Wukong's past mistakes are exposed for everyone in the main cast and the audience to see. And his past with the Brotherhood explains so much.

We don't know much about the pligrimage other than the fact that it was mentally and emotionally beneficial to Wukong after he got locked up, so for now I'm going to focus on the Brotherhood.

The Brotherhood assembled to fight against the Jade Emperor, as Wukong was openly rebellious during this stage of his life. After the battle, he had to lock his former friends away because they clearly hung onto this goal of rebellion. We also see in the memory scroll that Azure Lion's "paradise" caused environmental devastation to the surrounding areas, and that after Wukong was imprisoned he lashed out at Macaque. He feels responsible for Azure's ideas of grandeur to some extent, in his eyes he was the one who fed into these ideas and lead their first attempt at rebellion. He was so caught up in his journey towards immortality and strength for the sole purpose of protecting his loved ones, that he ended up pushing them all away and hurting them. He even says at the beginning of season 4 that most of the bad guys MK faced were people he has history with, specifally that he crossed them at some point.

Based on Wukong's self-destructive behavior that's been previously established, season 4 brings a lot of light onto Wukong's behaviors. Once again, he left some things unsaid because he felt solely responsible. When MK and Macaque rescue Wukong from the scroll, it takes MK reassuring Wukong that he can still correct and grow past these mistakes that haunt him — with Macaque offering him a small, forgiving smile to really motivate him.

Wukong's character in this series is that he's a flawed individual who has made mistakes and will continue making mistakes, even with the best of intentions in mind, but that he can grow from them. And that he is going to grow from them with his newfound family. LMK made it's message of growth so painfully obvious here lmao

Wasteland royalty beach date 💜💙

I must talk about the evil versions of my rats from a world of my dearest @hejmaja's creation, my heart will always dwell in the wasteland

In this world they are awful terrible fucked up mechanical abominations with the weirdest god complexes and they do murders and dissections for fun and consume flesh for biofuel and rule the wasteland from a huge gothic castle ❤️‍🔥

To make a very long story short, they meet each other at their absolute lowest points and quite literally keep each other alive, fall in luv, and get super codependent and evil. Neo declares himself king of the wasteland and he's powerful enough that no other can question his rule. The robot kingdom is totally awesome and sick and there's enrichment for discarded kill machines in the form of daily robot gladiator battles 🔥 Society at it's peak

Queen Wisteria has a sinister biomechanical thing goin on too, hence the visible circuits 🤗 She's been infected with a modified version of metal virus crafted by metal husband to keep her alive when a disease wanted her dead, because a true Robotnik son always finds a way to cheat death 🥳

Ahamkara!Shaxx on the brain. How while he couldn't grant wishes, he still could sort of shapeshift a bit. How he'd hide in his castle for some time while he figured out a way to keep his form as the one everyone was used to (the tentacle were a hassle to him at first)

How one day he got so upset his "mask" broke and his helmet split in half to reveal a maw and how it took a lot to calm him down and realize that while his appearance was severely altered, he still remained the brave, proud and boisterous man he always had been. His heart was still in the right place.

How when Maja first saw him, it had made her freeze and it took a lot to reassure him that it didn't change what she thought of him.

How eventually he'd be okay to let himself 'out' around her (in the safety of their shared space) and how one day she started poking at one of his appendages, only for it to poke back (it stung her hand but she laughed it off)

Maja just holding his face and cooing cuz he was still the handsome titan she loved, pushing her palm against his own, the difference in size making her heart skip a beat. He was intrigued but happy to have someone like her at his side.

She was the only one to ever have seen him full ahamkara. And it only happened once while scouting for a new arena. They had been ambushed and Maja was cornered, and he snapped. Arc energy was coursing through his form as he striked the hive ogre down in one go, claws digging in the eye (?) of the dead creature and tearing it apart.

She couldn't deny the fear that had courses through her, not just from the ogre but from seeing such raw ferocity, fearing he had lost himself. But when he was done he came to her and rested his large forehead against her, chirps escaping his throat.

it wasn't often he opted to sleep over trancing, however the exhaustion of their little adventuring had crept up on him suddenly; a weariness so deep-seated he couldn't muster the strength to do anything other than collapse onto the nearest bedroll and close his eyes. it's to his own detriment, really. he can't endure a night's sleep without being subjected to torturous visions and skewed memories he would otherwise wish to forget. the kind that feel real, that jolt him awake or have him stirring fitfully throughout the night.

the days that followed were over in the blink of an eye, despite the exhausted flow-on effect of those incessant nightmares, such was the way when his skills were needed for a particular mission over others. he was whisked away from camp again and again, busy, busy, busy. until, it's the end of the week, he's lost track of the hours, but the sky is dark and speckled with lights; a vast network of stars he couldn't be bothered to admire. astarion sprawls back against the bedroll by the fire instead of sequestering himself away to his tent, an arm tucked behind his head―  that which vaguely turns in maja's direction once she accompanies him.

“  huh. i'm afraid you haven't, ” he wonders, wonders what he could possibly be muttering during those unconscious hours as he succumbed to hellish dreams. he watches as the tawny glow of the fire against her skin shifts with the shadows and feels the insecurity of the unknown begin to crawl under his skin. of course his nightmares would bleed into reality, aired for all to hear. as if he hasn't been exposed enough. if his past didn't torment him during his waking hours, it would find a way to interfere during respite. “  aaand? what did i say? something hilarious, no doubt. otherwise, i trust you'll do the polite thing and act as if you're hard of hearing. ”

The ages for the 1987 cartoon are... so funny.

Leonardo is the oldest and the leader, still, but then you get to the other three and it gets WILD.

According to bios from toys based on the show; Leonardo is 16, Mikey is 15 1/2, and Raph and Donnie are just 15. But according to some forum commenters and reddit users, in a book published in 1991 their profiles list Leo and Donnie as 16, with Mikey and Raph being 15.

I just finished the episode "Cowabunga Shredhead" from season 3, which is in the first half of the season (why does this season have nearly 50 episodes....), but I haven't really heard any comments about their ages in the show outside of... them being teens.

So like, yeah, guess that's something Rise and 1987 have in common! The age order is different from other TMNT medias. Wild. Crazy.

It's implied they have different parents and were just baby/juvenile turtles all placed in the same bowl pre-mutation, though that's really only with a couple of throwaway lines here and there.

Also interesting to see that the "A-team" tends to be Leo and Mikey, with the "B-team" being Raph and Donnie. So far, Leo and Mikey task themselves with taking Shredder and his goons head-on, with Raph and Donnie acting as back-up, lookouts, or used for sneak attacks. During the leadership episode where Leo leaves, Mikey does act the best as leader imo. They don't really have a concise team dynamic outside of Leo leading and Donnie being the brainiac, but it does seem that Mikey acts as Leo's right hand more often than not.

I actually really like Mikey's characterization in this show! :D

Hi Inex Saw the ask about the sword stopping daggers, and I was wondering: *IS* Livi learning self-defense? Mostly bc that wasn't the vibe I was getting - I found her to be a little like Sasha in that regard, what with the disinterest in it - but I would so enjoy (the thought if nothing else) of Livi and Milena sparring together, seeing as they would be on more equal footing than if they'd spar against, say, Ciri. Yes, I know, so far Milena's only been training with Lambert and Aiden, but varied opponents are important (mostly bc it delights me :)

Also, while I'm on a ramble, can I tell you how lovely Maja's story was!?! (I am having thoughts I cannot put into words bc they keep coming out wrong, but I *loved* it!) I hope we get to see more stories/snippets of the Mantikittens finding their place in Kaer Morhen and as witchers or whatever they want to be. However, I did have a question regarding the Mantikittens: Who's the oldest/2nd/3rd/youngest?

Livi is not currently learning self-defense; she's a little busy re-organizing Eskel's entire everything. Dragonfly would love it if she did choose to take up the dagger, but is perfectly willing to be overprotective as hell until that point.

I'm so glad you liked Maja's story, and I hope to have similar short fics for the other three! In terms of age, Maja is the oldest, then Zia, then Elena, then Ada.

wuthering heights posting #122938: on the abuse being taken seriously

so in an earlier post i said that most of (aka nearly all) the wuthering heights adaptations fail because not a single filmmaker* nor screenwriter takes the abuse that heathcliff and catherine face (at the hands of both their father and hindley, because yes, hitting your children with the rod, neglecting them, and saying you can't possibly love them and, for example, saying to your daughter's face that she's the worst of your children [mr earnshaw's doing] and forcing your adoptive brother into servitude (and there are many articles about this especially in relation to heathcliff's race---i really recommend Maja-Lisa von Sneidern's article Wuthering Heights and the Liverpool Slave Trade for more on this, specifically their posit that "In the novel the Heights, corrupted by the introduction of the racially other [Heathcliff], is the place where the figures of a system of bondage work out their relationships." (Sneidern, 174)) , flogging him, and withholding food from your younger sister as punishment [hindley's doing] are both repeated instances abuse, in different degrees of intensity, but nonetheless have the same impact: it drives heathcliff and catherine's codependency. but this isn't what i solely want to talk about: what i want to actually talk about is heathcliff and catherine's (ultimately) world-shattering decision to visit thrushcross grange. *note: when i say film/filmmakers/screenwriters this includes both cinema film as in movies that both got a mainstream release in theatres and made-for-tv movies and tv miniseries. i'm too lazy to type out "film and tv" every time.

So, in the book, since this is being told from Nelly's (the housekeeper's) point of view, we don't actually know why exactly in the moment Heathcliff and Catherine choose to go to Thrushcross Grange (the manor home of the substantially wealthier Linton family), but it's said later:

""Where is Miss Catherine?" [Nelly] cried hurriedly. "No accident, I hope?" "At Thrushcross Grange," [Heathcliff] answered; "and I would have been there too, but that had not the manners to ask me to stay."... "...What in the world led you to wandering to Thrushcross Grange?" .... [Heathcliff] continued: "Cathy and I escaped from the wash-house to have a ramble at liberty, and getting a glimpse of the Grange lights, we thought we would just go and see whether the Lintons passed their Sunday evenings shivering in corners, while their father and mother sat eating and drinking, and singing and laughing, and burning their eyes out before the fire. Do you think they do? Or reading sermons, and being catechized by their manservant, and set to learn a column of Scripture names, if they don't answer properly?"" (WH, 50-51) (of the complete and unabridged longmeadow press 1983 edition)

Usually, this paragraph is framed in film in one of two ways:

either we actually see this exchange between nelly and heathcliff

heathcliff's reason for why they go to thrushcross grange is shown in either heathcliff or catherine (usually catherine) stating whilst they're out on the moors that she would like to go visit thrushcross grange

In both instances, in most of the film adaptations I have seen, their visit to Thrushcross Grange is played off as a joke---or at least, Heathcliff's reasoning as to why they went is played off as a joke.

Partially, this may be because Nelly doesn't take the abuse that Heathcliff and Catherine face seriously, either: in the very next sentence, she says, ""Probably not," I responded. "They are good children, no doubt, and don't deserve the treatment you receive, for your bad conduct."" (WH, 51) Nelly, an unreliable narrator in case you couldn't tell, vocally does not like Heathcliff nor Catherine, even from when they're children. Because she as a character believes that Heathcliff and Catherine deserve the abuse they face, I feel like many have assumed that Emily Bronte as an author was either implying that the abuse was 1) not that serious or not that big of a deal or was 2) definitely deserved because clearly, even as children and young teens, Heathcliff and Catherine were just that evil. Thus, a lot of filmmakers either consciously or subconsciously utilize that thinking as well. And of course, the other part of it is that the filmmakers themselves have decided that the abuse is either no big deal or is something they don't want to spend a lot of time analyzing.

However, I think that this moment, the decision for Heathcliff and Catherine to visit Thrushcross Grange... I think it's honestly really huge, and honestly really underrated as far as potential scenes to have between them. If this situation was treated with the gravitas it deserves, as in: two very abused and traumatized children see the manor house of the very rich family in the distance, and say to each other, "I wonder how they live. Do they have to suffer like we do?"

And to make matters even deeper (and worse for them), the result of this is that Catherine gets her leg mangled by a dog, and her and Heathcliff's relationship is irrevocably changed by her experiences at the Grange. For five weeks, Catherine is free from her abusive brother, the stress of essentially fending for herself because of his neglect of her, and she gets access to all of the upper class amenities and things she's never had access to before in her life, with people doting on her who genuinely care about her recovery and health. It's no wonder she comes back changed: now she's acutely aware of the life she could lead--if she abandons Wuthering Heights (by marrying into the Lintons) and leaves Heathcliff to fend for himself. Even so, though...she still doesn't want to leave Heathcliff in the dust. Even when presented with the prospect of escaping her abusive household, she only thinks of ways she can use the Lintons' money to help Heathcliff escape with her. AND OF COURSE, we have to talk about how Catherine (white woman) gets the opportunity to escape essentially handed to her and Heathcliff (brown man) has to carve out his own path and do all of the hard work himself and make his own fortune....

Hii do you have any headcanons on how the people from pikmin games (I mean Olimar, Louie, the Koppaites etc.) would refer to themselves, like if they have a word counterpart for ‘human’ for all people of different planets. I quite like starfolk, since it ties nicely with that idea that Olimar describes in Pikmin 1, that his people come from stars and return to the stars when they die.

Anyway sorry for the long ask, hope this is an interesting enough question. Either way have a good day.

I feel like they would be referred to as human..type things? They seem like they did come from human decent, so I would personally say some kind of human? But if we're talking about other stuff, starfolk sounds cool. Space wanderers could be used like a broad term as well. Fellow things works. I dunno? This ask has been interesting, since I'm not fully sure how to answer it without rambling about the whole "Koppaites, Hocotanians, and all the others are descendants of humans" theory. But regardless of that, thanks Maja! It was nice hearing from you! :D

I fully understand not wanting to write a RPF (same here), so I'm more curious what kind of vibe you had in mind for this one.

I have like 100 words, if that, written and I'm going to give them all here, once I speak to your curiosity:

It was another fever dream, just a brief vision of some industry party, passed plates I was ignoring and a buffet where I struggled with selecting and serving myself cheese (specifically brie) from a charcuterie table ("they can't pre-cut the cheese for fuck's sake?" Also, this may or may not have been due to the picnic dinner hubs and I were having for New Year's...)

Since I really don't wanna write the RPF, I figured I'm going to have to put someone in an AU. I'm most comfortable with August in that role, but maybe it's a chance to branch out. Modern!Charles? Wall Street Tycoon!Solo? (I really don't know him at all, so likely not.) But this is literally as far as I got and I also literally just imagined August in another AU that maybe has a greater chance of seeing the light of Tumblr.
