#bookreview #InThisGraveHour by #JacquelineWinspear #MaisieDobbs This is the 13th novel in the Maisie Dobbs mystery series. I only read the first novel of the series before this one, but hints of the previous stories were scattered throughout. It is a quick read, and good for a trip. Some of the actions seem to be cliche and align well with the flow of mass market paperback mystery series, but it's not as bad as other series. There were many times when two characters were communicating with their eyes only when they wanted to keep their emotions hidden from a third character. The main story involves a survivor of World War 1 whose psyche splinters at a fact that is distorted into a cause for revenge. As a result it's as if the war has not ended. The backdrop is Britain's preparation for World War 2. I look forward to reading books 2-12. Enough stories were left hanging in this book that book 14 should be interesting. #book #bookstagram #bookaddict #AmReading #booknerd #bibliophile #goodreads #booklover #read #Reading #ReadingGreetings

Maisie Dobbs
Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear My rating: 5 of 5 stars I got this in audio book file from the library thinking it would be a fun change up from the Artemis Fowl series that Logan and I have been listening to on our morning drives. I found this to be a fun and delightful read and I wanted to keep driving around to finish the book.
Maisie is very much like Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple only…

Book Review 008: Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear
So I have a bit of a quirk, I love my name. A lot. And I instantly love anyone who has the same name. So whenever I see an author with the same name I must read their book. Well at least one of them. It’s how I ended up reading a book about physics that was waaaaaayyyy outside of my realm of knowledge.
So when I came across a book by Jacqueline Winspear while putting up books meant for holds I was like “Mine”. I went to read the first chapter and quickly felt that I needed to read the book before it. This book was somewhat in the middle of a rather long list of books. So I placed a hold on the first book of the series. And waited.
Maisie Dobbs was a slow and confusing read for me. I was intrigued by the premise of a young woman in the late 1920’s earning a living as a private investigator. The story started off good I was committed to finishing the book after the first chapter. But the “myster” as it was, was very slow moving. It took me a few spurts of reading but I made it.
Then it just stopped in the middle of the myster and switched to the back history of Maisie Dobbs. I was thrown for a bit, I thought it would be a chapter and then get back to the main story. But nope, this was the main story...I think. I’m really not sure. The back story took up more the half the book. Which I’ve never seen done before, ever. It almost would have been better to have the backstory be it’s own book. It was that well developed and felt so at odds with the rest of the story. I mean I guess it was all connected but just I don’t know distracting at the same time.
Once I got into the book it wasn’t that bad, the writing is pretty solid and easy to read. The characters are real developed and the end did it’s job I want to know what happens next to Maisie. I’m also curious to see if she breaks up the main story with another story with in a story ploy again.

Maisie Dobbs
I read the final book in the series, “In This Grave Hour,” last week. Actually, it might not be the final book. There may be more coming, for all I know. But if not, I felt the series ended quite appropriately. There wasn’t a big, sentimental wrap up that left Maisie in a perfect place, but there were signs that she was on a good path. I didn’t love every book, but I did love this character and the setting, and have gotten so much pleasure from escaping into her world over the past year.

Thank you to maisiedobbs for tagging me with these fun questions:
What are your three favourite BBC TV Shows ( Mini-Series )? Pride and Prejudice (1995), The Hour, Dancing on the Edge.
the Romanovs or the Windsor Family? I don't really have a preference on the topic. I think both are interesting.
One actor/actress who should have won the academy award? I'm boring. I forget who's been nominated for what after award season is over/I don't pay close attention to award season. I remember wanting Keira Knightley to win for Atonement?
Could you describe one of your favourite outfits? Navy and white See by Chloé dress with ruffles down the front, navy blazer, patent leather bow flats, and a bunch of mismatched gold bracelets.
Which movie of Christopher Nolan do you prefer ? I quite enjoyed Inception.
Who would like to see as the next Doctor Who ( if you know/watch the serie )? I'm not ready for anyone but Matt Smith to be the Doctor, so...
Have you ever been to see a Musical? I've been to a few, the last one being West Side Story when it was playing on Broadway in 2009.
Who is your tumblr “queen/king” ( = favourite person on tumblr or favourite tumblr )? There are so many people I adore on tumblr that I don't think it would be fair to answer this. I don't even think I can narrow it down to one person!
If you could be stuck in an elevator with one actor, who would it be? Daniel Vincent Gordh.
& I'm being lazy and not writing more questions/tagging. Maybe I shall do so later.

Confession Time
I didn’t read anything last week except Harry Potter. I’m not sure how that happened, honestly. I get into slumps occasionally but that’s more deliberate. All I can see from the calendar is that my daughter’s social life/transportation needs and my own work schedule conspired against me, and I didn’t even notice it.
I went back to Rebecca West yesterday and got a decent chunk in. This led to an interesting conversation with my boyfriend, who I think feels like I’m treating reading this book as some sort of medicine and doesn’t understand why anyone would do that. Why read something you’re not enjoying just because you feel you have to? And that’s a very fair point.
So I have a couple of thoughts on this. The first is that I am enjoying the West and wouldn’t be reading it just out of a sense of obligation. It is, however, difficult going, mostly because there are a lot of political conversations and references in the book that are completely over my head. So I need to know a lot more Croation/Serbian history to feel like I fully understand what’s happening. Now, I could skip those parts and just read the sections of the book that are more like a traditional travelogue. Her writing is insightful, descriptive and quite powerful and I enjoy it. But the other thing is, the reason I picked this book up in the first place is because I do have a concern that my reading has become a bit lax. I don’t think there is anything wrong with reading to challenge oneself, to learn and to expand your knowledge and your thinking. So I’m going to stick with it, but I do have to accept that I can’t read this book in half hour increments here and there. I lose too much in between and it takes time to get fully back into it. But I’m doing it.
Also, this weekend I read book 12 of Maisie Dobbs, leaving just one in the series. It’s been such a pleasure for me to have these to look forward to over the past year. But it’s also good to put them to bed, and turn to different things.

It's Damon who got the only thing left from Jeremy, right? He's the one who got his ring.. Do you think he will keep it of give it back to Elena when she'll turn her humanity on? because if this happened, the scene where he will give it back to Elena is gonna be so heartbreaking...
OH GOD
like gimme that fucking scene???
i need this in my life
