My favourite scene from Gen:LOCK so far. Maisie Williams is hilarious! I especially love her interactions with David Tennant’s character, Dr. Weller. I’m really enjoying this series!

In this house we love and appreciate all the women who have portrayed Lara Croft over the years and value their contributions and hard work in bringing the most successful woman in video gaming to life in gaming, films and animated series.
Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbins, Jonell Elliott, Angelina Jolie, Keeley Hawes, Minnie Driver, Camilla Luddington, Alicia Vikander and now Hayley Atwell are all great. If you try to use one's fame or career or accolades to invalidate another you're trash. Period. We all have personal favourites, obviously, but that does not validate trash talking any of them because all of them gave a different flare to the character and ultimately made Lara Croft who we know her as.
And honourable mentions to Rachel Appleton - young Lara in the first film, Charlotte Sparrey - young Lara in Legend, Heidi Moneymaker - motion capture for Underworld, Abigail Stahlschmidt - Relic Run, Harriet Perring - young Lara in Rise, Emily Carey - teen Lara in the Reboot film, Maisy de Freitas - kid Lara in the Reboot film and Francesca Aston - young Lara in Shadow, as well as all the official Lara Croft models, Natalie Cook, Rhona Mitra, Nell McAndrew, Lara Weller, Lucy Clarkson, Jill de Jong, Karima Adebibe and Alison Carroll; their contributions are also key to bringing Lara to life, in the models' case quite literally, as they were hired to be Lara at gaming and press events.

Anyone watching this?
An animated mecha series created by Gray Haddock and produced by Rooster Teeth. It is set in a dystopian future Earth where an international coalition called The Polity fights a hostile nano-tech armed invading force known as The Union. The central conceit is that the hero mecha are driven by the digitally uploaded consciousness of their pilot.
Michael B. Jordan as Julian Chase, a former Polity combat pilot and "All-American guy" from Brooklyn around whom the team forms. Pilots the blue “jet fighter” mech.
Golshifteh Farahani as Yasamin Madrani, a former Union fighter pilot from Iran and second member of the Gen:Lock program. Muslim, wears a hijab and long hair in a virtual off-duty scene. Dreamed about being a physically genderless robot version of herself. Pilots the gold “eagle” mech
Maisie Williams as Cameron 'Cammie' MacCloud, a foul-mouthed Scottish hacker and the youngest recruit of the Gen:Lock program at the age of 17 years old. Pilots the green “bunny” mech.
Asia Kate Dillon as Val/entina Romanyszyn (roh-mah-nee-shin), a former Ukrainian covert agent. Val/entina is genderfluid, going by the name "Valentina" when female-presenting and "Val" when male-presenting. During a rare moment of downtime, she told the team that she was feeling the need to start presenting as male again. Has physically transitioned at least once, with dialogue suggesting that the process is easier than it is today. and can be undergone multiple times. Pilots the violet cloak-wearing sniper mech.
Kōichi Yamadera as Kazu Iida, a transfer from the Japanese military, where he was demoted from the rank of Sergeant to kitchen duty on grounds of insubordination. Speaks only japanese, but easily available universal translator tech overcomes this. Pilots the crimson “bull samurai” mech.
Dakota Fanning as Miranda Worth, a standard mecha pilot and "it’s complicated” with Chase. David Tennant as Dr. Rufus Weller, a scientist from the Polity's Experimental Science Unit. Creator of the gen:LOCK program. Hard not to interpret him as an alternate version of the 10th Doctor.
The animation is cell-shaded CGI, but if that’s not a deal-breaker then the show is well worth watching. There’s some nice mecha design in there (with a clear nod towards the angels from Evangelion) and the characters grow on you fairly quickly. Warning that there is a bit of what some might consider to be body horror at some points as one might expect from a war story but on the whole it’s not terribly graphic.
Worth noting that the voice talent matches the character’s they depict (Golshifteh is Iranian, Asia is non-binary). This series is ticking a lot of boxes when it comes to representation.
Spoiler rant for episode 4 and 6:
Ignoring the “transference means erasure” trope, my one complaint is the teeth-grindingly stupid decision regarding back-ups of the digital consciousness of the pilots.
They present a setting where the people capable of piloting the gen:LOCK mecha are exceedingly rare to the point they will take criminals and enemy defectors as candidates. They then show us that the Union took their at the time sole piloted mech and that the program would have been fucked if they hadn’t kept a back-up copy of his mind to re-integrate with his organic body. The first time the team end up facing a hostile gen:LOCK mech, it immediately targets the digital brain of one of the pilots, further emphasising the vital but overcomeable Achilles Heel of the program
Except that for some incomprehensible reason, the capture of that first ensouled mech meant the program stopped keeping back-ups of deployed pilots. For no reason at all. The fact that the Union were able to flip the digital brain they caught to the dark side is nothing but further proof that gen:LOCK not keeping back-ups on hand is just murderously stupid.

Gen:Lock - Characters
here’s a list of genlock characters and their names and what we currently know (based on information from twitter, the wiki, and what’s been seen from the current episodes)
Julian Chase
Julian Chase is one of the focus characters of the story. What we have learned thus far about him is that he is estimated to be around 21 years old, he is a pilot, he’s from Brooklyn, formerly part of the Vanguard, and he’s one of the very few who are compatible with the ‘e-brain’ of the Holon’s of the series. He was believed to be dead for the past 4 years, due to his plane crashing down after he had set off his ESD to buy everyone enough time to escape in the battle of New York in 2068. Currently, he can only interact with the world as a hologram. He’s the first to get to the gen:lock state, making him the first pilot of a Holon. He will be training new pilots in how to use the mechs, if they manage to pass this test. He is voiced by Michael B. Jordan.
Miranda Worth
Miranda Worth is another focus character of the show. She pilots a mech (not one of the Holons), is 21 years old, and a current lieutenant of the Vanguard. Since the battle of New York, she has become much more hardened and serious, and hesitant to allow others in. She was dating Chase before his ‘death’, and seems resistant in letting him back into her life after believing him dead for 4 years. She’ll also be assisting in the training of the new future pilots, and perhaps other recruits as well. She is voiced by Dakota Fanning.
Yasamin "Yaz" Madrani
Yaz is the second pilot to be compatible and succeed to connect to her Holon in the Gen:Lock program. She has military experience, having been part of the Union before transferring to the side of our protagonists. Not much else is known about her past, other than that she hails from Iran. She appears to be very serious, and not incredibly prone to being friendly or talkative. She is voiced by Golshifteh Farahani.
Kazu Iida
Kazu is one of the new recruits and potential pilots for the Gen:Lock program. He hails from Japan, and appears to have a very rebellious attitude, which cost him the respect and trust of his unit. It does not appear that he knows English. Much like the other new recruits, he’s not entirely sure of what’s going on or what’s expected of him. He is voiced by Kōichi Yamadera.
Cameron "Cammie" MacCloud
Cammie is the youngest recruit of the gen:lock program, and comes from Scottish descent. She seems to be highly curious and mischievous, and is rarely seen without her robotic pet named ‘Nugget’. She’s been described as ‘foul mouthed’, and also happens to be a hacker. She, like the other new recruits, doesn’t know what’s going on but seems to be excited for it. She is voiced by Maisie Williams.
Rob Sinclair
Not much is known about the actual Rob Sinclair, other than the fact he had made it to the final tests of the gen:lock program, and that he was a Specialist in the Vanguard. His current status is unknown, presumed dead. He had been replaced by a Union soldier, who attempted to steal one of the Holon’s. However, since the soldier was not gen:lock compatible, it appears to have killed him. He was voiced by Blaine Gibson.
Valentina “Val” Romanyszyn
Val is another one of the new recruits for the gen:lock program. They come from Ukraine, and is a former covert agent who thought they were done with fighting until they joined the program. They don’t appear to be incredibly interested in the whole deal, and just seems very disinterested with everything in general. They, like the other recruits, don’t really know what’s going on. They are voiced by Asia Kate Dillon.
Dr. Rufus Weller
Dr. Weller is the scientist behind the gen:lock program (though he isn’t completely happy with the fact his program has been militarized). He seems to not let the seriousness of a situation way him down, coming off as a very eccentric individual due to it. He’s the one behind the breakthrough that led to the gen:lock program, and designed the ‘Weller Test’ that tests to see if one is compatible with the technology. He has a robotic helper named Caliban. He is voiced by David Tennant.
Other Characters
Miguel Garza - Engineer from Southern Texas. He goes by Migas (a nickname with a story he doesn’t like telling), and is known for being a goofball. Is currently in charge of Holon maintenance. Voiced by Miles Luna.
Raquel Marin - The Colonel of the Vanguard. She’s involved in the gen:lock mission, which is why her base is the one being used for it. She’s emotion invested in this war, and is of Puerto Rican descent. She is voiced by Monica Rial.
Jodie, Razzle, Leon - They are all members of the Vanguard. As it currently stands, Razzle is believed to have died in the Battle of New York. Jodie and Leon are friends of Miguel and Miranda, and currently serve a minor role. Razzle was voiced by Lindsay Jones, Leon is voiced by Gray G. Haddock, and Jodie is voiced by Chad James.
