Catching bubbles

The main street of Yogyakarta, the first capital of the independent Republic of Indonesia, is a lively place. The Malioboro area is still the best place in this capital of Javanese Coffee and chocolate to get both specialities. Sort of a must go to place for any coffee lover. Or anyone with a sweet tooth.

And enjoy the street life, street art and the local performers.

Meeting of three major religions

Yogyakarta is a cultural, historic and religious focal point starting from its surroundings hosting the Borobudur temple mound and Prambanan temple. That means that two of the largest monument of Buddhism and Hinduism temples in the world is close by this city.

They are of course both World Cultural Heritage sites.

The Kraton Sultan Palace dominating Yogyakarta Central City is home to the governor of the region. This is the only hereditary governor post in Indonesia. This is due to the heritage of the city as an Islamic kingdom and sultanate in Java. The Palace is nominated as a World Cultural Heritage site, as a center of Javanese art and culture and Islam influence in the country.

Three world religions balancing out and cooperate to the best of the citizens and guests in the city and region. There should be something to learn about peace, integrity and respect here. To whom it may concern.

My travel there back in 2017 was partly to find out how the Ramadan fasting month played out in a dominant Islam country. Yogyakarta was also a stop on my 3rd trip circumventing the globe.
