The Syd Poll

the topic of this poll is one that is frequently avoided in the pink floyd fandom, but inevitably one we all consider – our individual views on what we think caused syd's psychological struggles (and by extension, led to his departure from the band). I think that – at least in this neighborhood of tumblr – this is a conversation we are capable of having in a way that is civil, nuanced, and at least minimally disrespectful to syd.

So, to help facilitate this, here are some ground rules:

let's all assume we have a mutual understanding of the complexities of this. syd could never actually be reduced down to a poll, and all of our viewpoints are limited in various ways

the poll options just serve as just a conversation starter, and responses are not necessarily a statement of absolute beliefs

For overheating monkeys mainly seek shade staying under trees , increase respiration (panting), seeking water sources. Also some species might shed for a thinner coat during summer. Sweating is an exclusively human thing and why humans have been so successful humans are persistent hunters. We would often follow herds for miles waiting for them to tire and overheat while sweating keeps us perfectly cool. Humans are also the only animal to blush. So. in the AU he's 21 y/o. Meaning that when he arrived to Pigsy door they saw him and went "yeah, he looks around 2/3" and from then they counted on. Buut there's also the thing that he looks a little younger than that age. I wont say anything else.

Macaque is drama queen so of course he would wear a trenchvoat during fall. plus he's old inside and outside bc of all Wukong bullshit. Wukong is your friendly neighbour who lives in a sketchy house and survives on peach sodas and chips (oh wait that's just canon Wukong.)

Courtnapping rooms are made specifically for the courted one, so they are all different. Basically, the room should include everything the courted person would need to live comfortable and also a collection of things they like / to pass the time /love.

So it can be a huge castle full of jewerly and elegant clothes/ornaments or just a cozy room with some chips and video games.

I think when he's relaxed, the hair is just- a little bit warm, then with his feelings and emotion it can go up to a bigillion degrees, so it's not harmful as long as he can control it.

because i am who i am (annoying abt ro always) i have this clip saved from when the orbital was being built of zam and minute very VERY briefly considering the idea that ro might betray them before ultimately brushing it off as "nah he wouldnt" and moving on.

now the interesting thing abt this clip To Me is that both minute and zam immediately discard the idea that ro could betray while mapicc is the one whos like "i could see him doing that", albiet very quietly which is why the topic is dropped so fast but i do find it rly funny and interesting that the person who arguably trusts/understands ro the most in the call (and on the server tbh) fully acknowledges that bc of who ro is, its entirely a possibility that he full betrays for fun or for content purposes while the two people who seem to doubt ro's loyalty and trustworthiness to anyone who Isnt mapicc dont consider the possibility of him betraying for more than 5 seconds max

the whole concept of "trust" on ls is just so interesting to me bc again . to older lsers, trust isnt abt never disagreeing w ur friend or teammate Ever and supporting every single thing they do, its about reliability and consistency in who u are. mapicc trusts zam, ro, and even spoke to an extent spanning across multiple seasons bc he knows them. he understands who they are, their morals, what they have fun w and what they need in a team, and their reasonings/logic behind the things that they do.

this is why he teams w zam in every season (bc he is reliable and fun to be around), why he always ends up teaming w spoke despite acknowledging that you should never EVER fully trust him if u have half a braincell (bc hes fun and mapicc knows what to expect), and why he Always ends up friends w ro in some shape or form (bc his loyalty and reliability is consistent when it matters most. he is also just fun LMFAO)

it isnt about always expecting them doing things he always like or what he wants, its abt the fact that he has fun w them. he cares about them, and they care about him in turn. he has spent the time w them to fully understand them which is why his relationship w all three of them has remained so consistent throughout the years— bc he always knows what to expect w them!! regardless of if theyre his enemies or his teammates or simply his allies, theyre people he is able to come to for fun and sillies no matter what bc they are his friends

like newer people (mainly derap and kab tbh) see the relationship older ls people have and want a relationship like that of their own but thats exactly why they havent had that yet. bc they dont understand How the relationship dynamic works on a fundamental level, they think its about unconditional support No Matter What and loyalty to one person and one person alone but its just. not that. like every player is their own person w their own thoughts, principals, feelings, and morals. like zam left team awesome and eclipse fed despite his very real love for both teams bc he couldnt agree w their morals. mapicc hated ro's teammates in s5 but never EVER expected him to choose or to leave his team to stay friends w him. like they are all their own people who have their own boundaries and the respect they have developed for each other throughout the seasons is why their relationships have become so stable and consistent throughout the seasons.

ok i honestly think its a really funny and awesome power move for worldbuilding to go "listen the centaurs are Here and we arent going to think too hard about how they got here. if you want to play in this space with me then you just need to take my hand and trust me on this" because for me at least the temptation to get really in the weeds on the details of everything becomes kind of overwhelming. i think being able to say "thats not relevant to the themes this setting explores" is a really necessary thing bc it lets you (and me, the disembodied voice speaking for all readers) focus more on whats actually important to the setting, which is puritanism and 60s harpy bands.

i did want to ask - it seems pretty fair to assume that relationships between even heterosexual members of different beastman...clades(? it feels a bit loaded to call them races) would be kinda taboo given the strictness of the setting, but how are inter-clade friendships viewed/how common are they? there's some cute art of bovine and equine centaur ladies dancing together imitating a stallion duel, so presumably?? it would be following horse centaur social standards as they seem to be the dominant culture, meaning a friendship between, say, a male bovine centaur and a female equine centaur would be pretty side-eyed, im assuming. what about harpy-centaur friendships? are they subjected to different standards given the more obvious differences between harpies and centaurs?

i'm also delightedly chewing on the tidbids from your harpy band reply. in particular i find it really interesting that you've placed ironwall up in the north as a place of low socioeconomic status compared to the primarily-human south, since that north/south divide of classism and discrimination is, to my understanding, smth thats been alive throughout british history. the idea of musical cross-culturamism is also so interesting also bc like you say, human society and ironwall society have different standards around stuff like gender and relationships, so imagining like, ironwall being all tittilated by the beatles still being together until their late 20s only for them breaking up reinforcing the idea of "yes male homosocial behaviour is never able to last past a certain point" is kind of funny. its so so so interesting that ironwall is insular not just in that it rejects Foreign Influence internally but also the outside world is largely uninterested in it too and prefers all the beastmen nicely partitioned away, bc that adds so much potebtial room for subcultural stuff like this when the streams do cross.

i'd be super interested if you ever found the time/inspiration to go deeper into what punk and goth fashion would look like for centaurs and harpies, since i immediately imagined mohawk manes and imped or dyed quills, emphasising the animal part of oneself in a confrontational way - which can of course tie into your very correct point that punk =/= progressive, and the existence of ultra-conservative bioessentialist/natural-ist factions in the worldbuilding. those are really neat btw; i like that youve sidestepped the whole "back to nature peaceful progressive movement" idea to be like "no these guys also suck". everything in ironwall is kind of sucks in its own special way and its awesome.

ya, suspension of disbelief in the manner you describe in the first paragraph is the default state for fiction but in online speaces like this, that is often forgotten (mainly b/c this space we exist in grew out of fandom, and fandom thrives on encylopaedia-like worldbuilding styles, but has little to work with when it comes to complete, wrapped up speculative stories, so these are not fandomised to such an extent). anyway as well as that, i think a lot of artist and writer worldbuilders on tumblr do enjoy getting stuck in the weeds and that's #valid but in a lot of cases, there is a defensive quality to explaining every little thing which pre-empts audience questions and attempts to get ahead of imagined future accusations of poor worldbuilding.

ok to the questions: relationships between even heterosexual members of different beastman types - friendships have never been discouraged, it's very very common especially in a space like Ironwall which is highly mixed compared to its surrounding enclaves. the fact that the bovine & equine centaurs you describe can't procreate is the key to it not really being especially taboo as the forces which organise sex segregation in ironwall are sexual in nature (and the herd is the arena for procreation, passing on generational wealth and status, etc). however that doesn't mean opposite-sex friendship is universally acceptable. bulls face similar "aggressive time bomb" stereotyping as stallions. centaurs and harpies will exist in different social circles (not universally, but i mean. the infrastructure segregates them) so it's not AS common for that sort of friendship but again it's fine really

ironwall vs southern music culture - people of ironwall are minorities on a global scale and are very strongly aware of it. but it means they can be rabidly insular, too, because the stronger and more dominant culture in the country is not for them. they are outcompeted on nearly every manufacturing stage, so it is a direct threat to their livelihoods - and, therefore, ability to live in the only city with compatible infrastructure - when 'foreign' businesses start to undercut them. they get defensive because they see a threat of cultural extinction, which swings them back around to conservatism in the 21st century. music is just one facet of this. when you turn on the radio and all you hear is americans, it IS annoying.

because of this, people in ironwall are PAINFULLY aware of social norms outside their city and enclaves. they can make their gay jokes about the beatles all they like, but they know the deal. the larger dominant culture can afford to be completely, carelessly ignorant of all outside its borders, but the smaller cannot ever.

punk fashions - all i can say is yeah probably that all (dyed feathers etc) sounds about right, but again like u said not all punks take an inherently progressive, reclamatory approach to their bodies. sometimes it's just a music scene with a nebulously anti-status-quo aesthetic. but for those with that reclamatory stance, the expressions veer harder into androgyny and gender bending (sometimes in a way which is ultimately transphobic lol. but what's new) than comparative human punk scenes. more cross-dressing basically. for the birds which have dimorphic plumage it was common enough for that to be dyed black across the board, with the goal of making it difficult to tell sex at a glance.

folk dances - this is a trajectory that makes sense to me, though even in the modern day it's important that the hooves are covered by fabric in polite company so i guess you'd end up with something resembling that dance where the dancers wear floor-length skirts and use teensy steps so that they appear to be floating around on castors with no visible disturbance to the dresses (thanks to beroidae in the replies: it's called берёзка!)

starting with sheila haywood, obviously she betrayed him, sold him out to the joker, yadda yadda. we get that already. but i kinda feel like im the only one who doesnt think shes like an absolute villain and im going crazy reading fics. just gonna drop the fact here that she switches up HARD when jason reveals he's robin.

so im not saying jason was justified in the titans tower incident but you can maybe see where hes coming from when he beats up tim. the moment you put on the mantle to fight criminals, you aren't just another kid. you have a duty, and you have the power to carry out that duty.

and sheila's really shocked when the joker starts hitting jason. so like she probably hasnt thought about what happens when you cant separate the person from the idea. because when you're a hero you're meant to be infallible. you're supposed to win and come out on top of whatever situation you're put in.

Legend of Zelda Inspired AU - "Ever since he was young, Jack could hear a voice. Once faint, but grew more and more distinct as time flew by. Then, one day, it refused to be denied any longer."

personally, not a ZeLink fan ( gay!Link & lesbian!Zelda fan here ), but to deny any romantic potential, subtext, or direct text would be silly. inspired by this Skyward Sword AU illustration by alicesketch, as well as timeless-esc love songs!

Fairytale AU - "Fairytales are supposed to have happy endings, aren't they? So why isn't Jack happy?"

Jack was the town shepherd and a known delight amongst the children for his storytelling and tricks. but, after an accident, he's enchanted with magic and becomes quick attraction, garnering the attention of a nobleman. cue an arranged marriage where, in exchange for Jack's protection with his newborn abilities, his mother and sister could live comfortably.

life goes on for a while, but Jack finds himself miserable, for a myriad of reasons, and sometimes wishes to go back to how things were before. but when he meets Hiccup Haddock, a dragon traveler, by happenstance, Jack might've found what he was looking for.

this AU's got more meat to its bones than the first one, but is still a little rough in its synopsis. essentially, though, arranged marriage AU, except Hiccup isn't the one Jack is married to! so more like a forbidden love kinda thing.

if you're wondering why the nobleman didn't just. hire Jack. well, there's two reasons, but one of them might be kinda confusing without the other:

the nobleman is an elitist prick who didn't want a commoner to be on the same 'level' as him, and believed he was the better person for offering marriage than an official title.

Jack is trans and not out about it. so, in the noble's eyes, he's a woman. and misogyny ensues.

i do have an alternative version of this story, where it's way different, so i don't know if this'll be the set one, but this vers. has more detail to it as of now.

Tarzan AU - "After Hiccup and Toothless offend some rather unruly sprites, they're saved by a strange man who acts more like a spirit and less like a human."

i'm not gonna lie, this AU came to me because i was watching Tarzan clips and then thought "wouldn't it be funny if Hiccup was saved by a half-naked AFAB and he freaks out about it", and now we're here.

honestly, this AU doesn't have much Jack background aside from his bio-mama died and he was raised by either spirits, the Guardians, or North, and something genetical made Jack look more like a mystical being than a human, though he still does look human.

it's mainly just me thinking about Hiccup and Jack acting like 'Strangers Like Me' and Hiccup having an internal panic 24/7 over the pretty winter-looking stranger that copies his speech and has no issue with getting into his personal space.

internally: decent movie. more tolerable than the previous for most parts. rewatchable. FINALLY has a soundtrack that sounds like sonic and DOESNT have gratuitous plot-irrelevant human scenes. sonic gets to do sonic stuff!!!!! characterization makes sense given previous movies and (very slightly) nudges him towards something potentially interesting. not inventive AT ALL (missing everything intriguing about SA2) but could be worse

externally: while some lore omissions make sense given the world established by the previous films, those choices are boring and others they make are completely baffling changes. rouge omission harms the whole thing. i dislike the entire direction they’ve taken with their sonic characterization and the themes and they fundamentally miss key traits for everyone involved . why did we do this. what was the point

it’s fun. more consistently enjoyable than the previous but that’s mostly bc the scenes that bothered me with the aggressive Carryness had tails in them so i could just watch him be cute.

lore change to make him another mystery alien is annoying but frustratingly makes sense given the context. i’m not torn up over it <- don’t care about shadow and didn’t expect much going in . the missing part of maria’s story is ridiculous though (why is she just there??????)

i love herrrr i love her 70s energy and outfits and i will incorporate the roller skates. its soooo cute . the godzilla movie with the biolizard is pretty funny but that’ll totally piss off diehards. i do think they do good job of showing shadow + maria as friends and why he cares so much about her but that’s mainly just the scope of a film vs a video game

Peter Lukas - I think it's unlikely bc no jonah to make a wager with to get him off the boat so he's probably still at sea buutt if it was him think it would funny bc he'd definitely have 'disappeared' Collin just to not deal with him

Simon Fairchild - he wouldn't give a shit like we saw him with the extinction stuff he'd just not care about what the OIAR is doing at all and I think that would be funny

Annabelle Cane - that would be verryy plot relevant and also probably the same annabelle Cane from tma bc she said she'd either go with the fears or die and so far as I can remember they said there was no sign of her I would love a return of annabel mainly just bc I love her

Sasha James - more likely to be the new IT person but also I desperately just want sasha to be alive and well I also think she'd be very good at her job we knew she would have made a good archivist but an actual one rather than eldritch horror one so maybe she's a librarian somewhere completely separate

HI OMG IM SO SORRY FOR THE VERY LATE REPLY, IVE BEEN VERY BUSY BUT SURE! And since I'm a multishipper, I'll just list my top 5 ships out of fandoms I've been in

FengCui: Feng Xiao x Cui Buqu (Wushuang/Peerless) - The reason I love this ship so much and is my top 1 out of all the shows and books ive read and watched is because I'm so in love with their dynamic, development, and interactions with each other. They first start of as rivals then gradually start to fall for each other with each case they work and time they spent togther. I also loved the fact that the author didn't use stereotypical tropes with the main cp. While its enemies to lovers, to me, it's enemies AND lovers because when they do get together, their dynamic didn't change and they still remained the same. And that's one of the reasons why I love this pair so much.

2. Cezhou: Shen Zechuan x Xiao Chiye (Qiang Jin Jiu/Ballad of Sword and Wine) - I honestly debated if this should be my top 1 but I ultimately decided this would be my top 2 mainly bc I prefer fengcui's dynamic more, But of course, that doesn't make this ship any less great and amazing! In my opinion, this is enemies to lovers with sexual tension done right. I used to hate the trope enemies to lovers because of experience and personal things... But this ship changed my perspective on it a lot. Even though they got together early in the novel, they're still the ship that has the most amazing development and growth I've seen in such as a long time.

3. Hualian: Xie Lian x Hua Cheng (Heaven Official's Blessing) - Ah yes... the classic. I had to put them at my top 3 because TGCF and hualian is what mainly got me into danmei and to this day, I still adore them with all my heart and I'll never ever forget how they made such a huge impact on me... They're like romeo and juliet but done right. They're also the couple that made my standards so unrealistic to the point that I think I'll never ever be able to find someone to love as much as how much they love each other... As much as they're unrealistic, they also made an impact on how I view love in general. I also relate to hua cheng when it comes to appearances because dawg... I am also so insecure of that as well... and when Hua Cheng is insecure about it and Xie Lian is just telling him that he's gorgeous and not ugly like he thinks he is just makes me want to cry because that validation and comforting words is what all of us insecure people need. Just having the reassurance that we're perfect just the way we are...

4. Lucathy: Lucas x Athanasia De Alger Obelia/Athy (Who Made Me a Princess) - I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! Athy is so precious to me and I will protect her at all cost! And I love how their relationship just naturally progresses on the time the spent together and isn't just immediate love at first sight. And I also love how lucas went from "I'm going to watch this bc this is entertaining" to "If you ever hurt her, I'll destroy all of obelia" and bro... LUCAS IS SO WHIPPED FOR ATHY ITS SO FUNNY AHAHAH (Also reminds me on how Xiao Chiye is so whipped for Shen Zechuan but that's another time). And not only that, but I love how Lucas got back from his quest, heard about how Athy got humiliated, bro was like: "Should I kill him?" like bro did not care if it was her father, if someone did shit to her, he would deal with them.

5. LoidYor: Loid Forger x Yor Forger (Spy x Family) - BRO I IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS SHIP!! Assassin x Spy? OH HELL YEA! I've honestly been waiting for this kind of trope for such a long time lol. Not only that, but I low how yor is such a girlboss and protects her family even if it isn't real. I honestly really like their progression so far and I hope that they honestly become a family in the end... I have nothing really much to say about this ship because I haven't been keeping up with SXF but I really love them and they're trope because I haven't seen Assassin x Spy trope in fandoms I've been in.

its so funny seeing videos of him where he makes little slaps like a cat as his way of fighting😭 also having been part of the gang up effort on both dream and sapnap he knows the payback is going to be brutal.

anyway. rambling under the cut

No bc we all know that sapnap is cocky af always, regardless of if he’s unevenly matched or not, so it’s no surprise when he drags dream and george into the home gym with 100% confidence that he’ll beat both of them easily. But when he’s suddenly cornered by the two of them, he’s scrambling to rip his gloves off so he has an opportunity to at least try and fight back

this only draws attention to them, and dream’s wrapping his hands over the velcro around sapnap’s left wrist before he even realizes what’s happening. dream tugs him roughly, spinning sapnap around and crowding him from behind, and most importantly, grabbing sapnap’s free wrist. now, dream is towering over him from behind, stretching sapnap’s arms into the air and leaning in so his stubble brushes against sapnap’s ears as he teases him about how small he is; about how powerless he is “What are those, kids sized gloves?” “i didnt know they made boxing equipment for toddlers!” “why is your face so red, sap?”. and while dream focuses on making his face warm up to a dangerous degree, the only thing in sapnap’s view is a very giggly george, standing just inches in front of him. he’s suddenly very aware of how tiny he is between them, and sap’s mind blanks at the thought. he swallows thickly and does the only think he can think to do

Sapnap starts begging, pleading, both cursing and proclaiming his love for them at the same time - anything he can think of to get them to back down. But instead george reaches an arm out and pokes into sapnap’s lower ribs on the right, making him jolt into george’s waiting hand on the other side that sapnap hadn’t noticed before. The two laugh along with sapnap’s squeals as he wiggles back and forth between george’s hands, making the pokes a little more harsh each time his hands connect with sap’s body. his hands are balled into fists inside the boxing gloves, tightening at every quick jab into his ribs. But when sapnap tries to flex his fingers to dispel even the tiniest bit of ticklish energy he’s experiencing, he finds that he can’t, and he panics even more through his frantic giggles. George starts to scratch and squeeze at the warm skin under sapnap’s shirt, right along his sides, but only every few times, driving him insane at the idea of not knowing when the tickling is suddenly gonna get so much worse. sap tries to keep his eyes open long enough to watch george’s hands, trying to anticipate the next move, but his lil puffy cheeks get in the way from laughing too hard, and he fails miserably.

At this point, dream and george are teasing him, but sapnap has no idea what they’re saying. Dream has sapnap’s arms lifted so high into the air that he’s basically balancing on the toes of his sneakers, and george is rubbing his knuckles into sapnap’s ribs with a force so hard he thinks he sees god. Eventually, sapnap is kind of just dangling there, laughing deliriously as george so lovingly tears him apart, so dream loops his forearms under sapnap’s biceps, shifting positions and holding him up that way, making it almost easier for george to continue his reign of terror on sapnap’s poor lil ribs ):

By the time they let him go, sapnap’s face is drenched in tears and sweat, his hair is stuck to his forehead, he’s bright red, and he’s mad (well, he pretends he is. In reality, he actually loved every minute of his torture <3). He starts swinging at whoever is closest to him, who happens to be george, and george is cackling, running away from him and hiding behind dream, still egging sapnap on even as dream is holding him back from literally ripping george to shreds.

When sapnap calms down, dream teases him playfully, poking at him and making fun of how “small and pathetic” he looked getting wrecked to pieces in the boxing gloves. So sapnap challenges him to take his place. dream grabs his boxing gloves from one of his long lost hobbies many moons ago and lets sap get into position behind him. Sapnap wraps his arms around dream’s elbows, pulling them closer together so that dream’s arms are pinned behind his back, and successfully pushing out dream’s torso because of their awkward height difference. George doesn’t give him the chance to balance himself.

his hands are immediately under dream’s shirt, skittering over the center of his tummy and making dream stumble back against sapnap, almost bringing the two of them down to the ground. Sapnap repositions them, and in retaliation george starts to lightly pull at the bottom edge of dream’s bellybutton with his pointer finger, keeping his free hand skittering along the lower part of his tummy as he did so. And when george still wasn’t satisfied with the level of desperation in dream’s laughter, he leaned down and started nibbling into the dip of dream’s waist, sending him into hysterics. Apparently the combo proves to be too much for dream, because his knees completely give out, and in less than five minutes, the big scary ler is a crumpled lil mess of giggles and tears on the gym mat floor. He apologizes profusely to sapnap in exchange for mercy <3

now…George is the weakest of them all, and he knows it, so he darts out of the gym immediately after dream falls to the ground. He hides from them for the rest of the night, knowing they’re both undoubtably planning his demise - he’s the one who tickled the life out of both of them, afterall. So, of course, the next day he’s on edge around them. wincing whenever one of them brushes their hand along his back when they walk by him, or when they creep up on him from behind, just having fun with the anticipation of it all. And the worst part? having to listen to the two talk about him like he’s not even there. “Can you imagine george in that position? He’d never survive!” “No, he definitely wouldn’t. You’ve seen how useless he is when he’s tickled normally, what’s he gonna do when he’s completely helpless?”. and it builds for daaaays, until george is about to be super brave and ask them outright to wreck him, to just get it over with, but decides against it. He knows better.

they bombard him a week later, though, after george is practically vibrating with nerves and going crazy with anticipation. they hold him down against the mats, kneeling on either side of george. they each take a hand, shoving a boxing glove onto each one as george fights them the entire time. after they finally secure them, dream and sapnap dig into the muscles of george’s ribs and inner thighs until he’s screaming, crying, pleading, begging, banging his useless little fists into the ground (and into dream and sapnap) as hard as he can <3

also i couldn’t ignore the au mention……the thing you wrote about dnf crashing an interview and talking about how they train with sapnap without saying it……….can you imagine the blushy cheeks? the way he’d pull the brim of his hat down to cover his face as he got more and more shy the more dnf talked about it?????? the lil breathy giggles and pleads for them to drop it???? and no one would understand but the three of them, and dnf would push it as far as they could bc theres nothing they love more than seeing sap squirm (and of course sap gets them both back tenfold after the interview <3)

Inferno please please go into depth (if you wanna ofc!!) on your thoughts on the Fanny redesign? I literally have not been able to stop thinking abt it ever since you told me. Also some things you speculate on what her character might’ve been like?? I fear in my heart they would’ve had a brother/sister dynamic which makes me ☹️☹️☹️

I need you to know this is how I look thinking about this the whole time,

my thoughts on it are rather complex, I think we all agree that in og shorts fanny as well as her design were at their peak in "all wet" she started to look much diffrent from oswald and I said this before she was carring that short more than him witch was rlly fun

Fanny's old design looked alot more like a flapper and SHE WAS ONE I will not let go of the fact she was a nurse thefore a working woman ever ever I will be extremly annoying about it because I think it is a very important thing not just to her as a character but also to history of animation bc she could be a first working woman in animation and that thought makes me do backflips anyway back to the point-

I said this before but fanny had her own personality, mainly seen in all wet where she matched oswald in being a bit snobby, impulsive and mischievous but even before that in "the mechanical cow" we can see she also had some personality to her that matches with her later on, in mechanical cow she wasnt just kidnapped and started screaming helplessly but she FOUGHT BACK, she straight up started punching the guy when he grabbed her

then after that failed she did start screaming for oswalds help but even after that she wasnt just screaming helplessly she obviously still fought back and she almost got away on her own SHE JUMPED OUT OF A MOVING CAR

and I know those are not character defying things or anything but I do think that these are things building character for her even if you have to look between text for them

honestly personality wize I always thought fanny would mach personalities with- well uh- fanny

also on more fandom note [this is not atacking anyone but I dont want to leave it out because I think its important]

In the fandom space fanny's always been somewhat demonized when keept her more "divaish" traits , especialy in all wet, and I think it does play hard into the "sexy woman = evil" belief, especialy when you look at her in things that are meant to full on no hiding it demonize her, her head on atributes and trickiness and sultry self-presentation from shorts is then carried on but shown as entirely bad, shes sexy and she knows it and thats evil, shes still tricky and impulsive and thats evil, her being extremly outard is accualy just her being a bitct, etc im sure you know what I mean If you've went on any dive looking for stuff with her

then notice how in thing that do try pulling it back a bit and saying "no guys shes accualy a good guy" these atributes are suddenly either toned down or complatly gone, "oh no guys shes not accualy sexy on purpose" "no no guys shes not accualy tricky you just assued things" "guys shes not accualy so head on and shes not as outspoken that was just false impression!" and while I get these things are trying to lift her up and present her as "better" it does leave the question

what if she was those things?

like, what if she still matches oswald in trickiness and mischief? what then? what if shes aware of her appeal and plays into it on purpose does that mean something bad? does that mean shes evil...for some reason?

and I dont mean to throw hands around the fandom or anything like that really like I said YOU CAN charactarize her as evil but I do wish we could pull on the breaks and look at it from the bigger picture and notice how these "evil" traits arent accualy root flaws [and how she shares many things with oswald characterization wise lots of times but these things are cool and funny on him but there to demonize her] because I do feel like many times shes just kinda left hanging with the evil sticky note on her

but yeah we kinda have the established personality of fanny and how shes been seen by the ppl above, I personaly cranked the femme fatale part alot and decided on exploring it more in my versions so I definitley am biast towards a certain image of her in my head but even without it, we kinda get what she was suppoust to be like especialy after the redesign in all wet that drove some ideas home even more

and like...that is a cute design, the glasses are cute I like the yellow-green combo and how they accualy used a pretty shade of yellow to make her blonde instead of the piss wig color, the ears are a nice touch it is a well know by everyone ever fact that I love ears down fanny not only bc it makes her look diffrent from oswald but also bc I think it adds character, the outfit is somewhat nice its simple gets the characterization done and I do have to say seeing her ears on the left image it does make her look more like a rabbit, I like how not only are the ears down but also they have those little ending bits to them

but heres the thing

wheres the fanny?

like okay I get that they obviously were more looking at her cuter side but like wheres the cuntiness, where did the shyess come out? because we can see she was obviously meant to come off as a shy girl i mean look at her, where did her matching oswald stupidity and freak go [I dont even mean romanticly]

this is a cute desing and this is a nice character idea really but this is not fanny cottontail man, like even when you divorce her history in the fandom as well as for some reason ignore all wet she still had some of that hard ass energy to her [went into an active feild to pick up oswald in great guns not even knowing it was him,recruted herself as a nurse off screen, again STARTED PUNCHING A GUY WHEN HE GRABBED HER, jumped out of a moving car you name it]

like she did appear a bit shy in the mechanical cow when oswald started to talk w her but like I think that was more because she had a guy clearly hit on her and that resolved in that moment of shyness rather than being an active trait

also this is more disconnected from other stuff but I dont like how they changed her body type to be less curvy not even bc of the implication but also because I dont like how disney seem to be allergic to more fem body types, like

they took away her hrt rip legend

also I said this before on here and I think I will accualy end up writing an essay about it but again this design turns her into a "good girl" by taking away some of her atributes that honestly should have stayed there- this honestly brings even more attention to how fem characters often either get the "shy, honey, sweetheart girl" card or the "evil saultry witch women" card

do notice how with the "good one" I said girls but with the "evil one" I said women-

but yeah thats a whole diffrent thing back to fanny and the show and onto the uh...later worry-

I do have to agree I also worry they could have have them more sibling like relationship with I hateeeee typing this made my heart do a twist I think like no no no no no no I am not dancing this dance aint no way-

and like we dont essencialy know if thats true like we have only few images and while ofc their relationship could have been something else I do also very deeply fear that they could have tried pulling that and straw if ur still reading through this I need you to imagine how uncomfortable that thought makes me I think I would start biting the walls if that were the case straw-

if she was the "shy but responcible" older friend-sister trope and he was the "youger chaotic outward" younger friend-brother I think I would have thrown up for suprisingly big amount of reasons like no- nononono

but overall in complete nutsel, the design is cute but this is not francine fanny cottontail accualy this little rabbit lady accidently broke the law in kentucky and has been on the lam ever since and accual fanny allowed her use her full name as a cover up and shes chilling somewhere on the other end of the city/world
