Joy: Accessories for the Rich and Coolio
Berlin is full of people, doing their thing, and making all our lives just a little brighter. I’m always grateful the world contains so many people who create just for the love of creating. Oriana and Antonella are the sisters behind the beautiful Joy accessories label.
Oriana started her creative streak early, painting from a young age; then continued her artistic pursuits by studying make-up at ITM in Paris before ending up in the fashion capital, Milan. It was in Milan she began putting together imaginative feather headpieces for photo shoots.
While working as a make up artist on Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise video, Oriana took a chance and presented some of her feather hats to the man himself. Excitingly, the Joy hats were chosen for the video. Not a bad start for a fledgling label!
Since May 2012 Oriana has been working with Antonella on Joy. Oriana creates every piece by hand, selecting each individual feather like the perfectionist she is. Antonella takes care of business, representing the Joy label under her own project Mai Kawaii. Antonella began selling the Joy accessories after working for a designer in Ibiza. She was offered a stall on the beach for the summer and the opportunity to present Joy to the world.
After this success Antonella returned to Berlin to stay and now stocks The Optimistic Store and Superficial with the Joy collection. They are now looking for further stockists in other parts of Berlin, so retailers, get in quick!
Aside from these retail outlets, you can also catch Antonella and the Joy collection in person at Voodoo Market, as well as others. Keep an eye on Joy and Mai Kawaii for updates. Sometime in the not too distant future we can also hope to see a Mai Kawaii store in Berlin.
So while these sisters don’t look alike and don’t act alike, they work together in harmony, making Joy into the brand it deserves to be.
These amazing editorial shots show the place where feathers and imagination meet. The product shots in this post were taken in The Optimistic Store.
