Day Two of #springmagicweek2019. Today's pronounced is "Rain Shower".

I often collect rain water to paint with. I love the different energies each storm gives and I appreciate the cycle that particular water has gone through. Water as an element is deeply emotional.

I wanted to capture that raw emotion, the vulnerability that expression brings. My dear friend Gabriella was kind enough to model for this portrait. Not only is she beautiful, magical, and an incredibly talented photographer; she has a tragic and triumphant history with water. This piece was painted with handmade alcohol ink and rain water.

Clean Up!

Today’s second challenge, I believe was an easy one. The challenge consisted of deleting the apps in your phone that you don’t use or you don’t feel emotionally attached too (apps that don’t bring you joy). At the beginning when I was listening to the podcast I thought that it was going to be a really easy task and that I could easily chose between the apps that I will delete and the ones I would keep. When the time of deciding what application to keep and which ones I should delete came up, I struggled a bit. I had a rough time deciding because I downloaded some application for an educational purpose but I end up not using them as often and they didn’t brought me joy. After thinking over and over again if I should get rid of these “necessary” apps I decided to delete them. I wasn’t using them even though I “needed” to and they were using storage space. Apart from those applications, deciding whether I should delete other applications or not was fairly easy. After deleting the unpleasant applications, I put all the applications into one folder and I turned off the notifications of the applications as told in the instructions. When I did this my phone felt slightly different. It felt as if I didn’t need to be checking my phone every time I received a notification but instead I looked at my phone every time I felt like it and only apps that I want to use. It took time for me to get used to this change, but I don’t regret doing it. I feel less stress and I am using my phone according to my necessities and not just because it tells me that I need to use it.

The Magic of Single Tasking

In my communication class we were given an assignment, which was more of a challenge, in which we needed to listen to the podcast “Note to Self” which challenges its audience to free themselves from information overload. The first challenge is to not multitask and to only focus on a single task at a time.

Today I realized how common it is to multitask and how our own professors force us to multitask on an everyday basis. This challenge was especially hard for me because I usually listen to music while I do homework or workout. I tried to focus on one task at a time, by working on my readings and also listening to music every time I had free time. But every time I was having lunch and I decided to listen to music, the tv was also on and I needed to make a choice between watching the news or listening to music (music was always my choice), but sometimes when I didn’t realize, my attention shifted to the TV. Apart from it being difficult, my experience with this challenge was really good. It helped me realize how well I can actually work when I am not shifting between one task into another. I just want to say that not multitasking in our modern life is really hard, a good example of forced multitasking would be driving. We are told that we need to measure our car and at the same time we need to turn, change lanes, listen to the radio and talk with one of the passengers. Multitasking has become really common that when someone doesn’t like to multitask he/she is told to be “slow”. I believe that single tasking is better, because you can focus on one task at a time and you finish your task faster and with higher quality.
