A thing I love about Gertrude Robinson:
Though she is technically an Avatar of the Eye (per her job contract and her supernatural abilities), she is fundamentally a "pandeific" being.
We get reminded over and over and over how aligned she is with other entities.
The Web:
Annabelle Cane in MAG147, "The Weaver"
Tumblr media
Gertrude Robinson, described by Michael in MAG101, "Another Twist"
Tumblr media
Gertrude Robinson, talking to Arthur Nolan in MAG145, "Infectious Doubts"
Tumblr media
Let's continue with those two episodes--she's Desolation and Spiral as well as Web
MAG145:
Tumblr media
(not to mention that she survived binding herself to Agnes, and during that ritual her "lungs try to burn [her] alive from the inside out," and that she just overall has quite an affinity for fire and explosions)
MAG101
Tumblr media
Eric Delano confirms her willingness to lie as well in MAG154
The Dark
The common symbol of The Dark (or at least Maxwell Raynor's cult) is a closed eye; in hiding from Elias, she too takes on that aspect of the Dark
MAG054, "Still Life"
Tumblr media
The Lonely
This one, Jon says outright in MAG167, "Curiosity"
Tumblr media
The Corruption
And I think that leads to her affinity with the more "metaphysical" aspects of the Corruption. This one doesn't have as obvious evidence, but understanding that the Corruption covers toxic relationships (MAG160.02), relationships where one being is used up by another, then what else characterizes even her most positive and genuine relationship?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(MAG111 "Family Business" and MAG137 "Nemesis")
That covers 7 out of the 14. I gotta think more about the last 7, but she definitely became enmeshed in so many parts of the Fears

From what I’ve seen people are generally pretty good about spoilers, or at least tagging them like “tma s3” or “tma s3 spoilers”
If you go to the tags of tma you absolutely will encounter spoilers though. No tags are perfect.
But in general yes! If you start a discussion and mention where you’ve gotten then 99% chance efforts will be made to not spoil it for you
Also, a lot of the episodes are tagged “MAG072” or whatever the episode number is. If you want to see reactions to episode 54 you search for MAG054 and you’ll get posts for it
And finally, we fucking LOVE watching the newbies come up with theories. It’s the most fun ever. The worst you’ll get is ominous comments like “oh just you wait” or something to that effect. But for the most part we LOVE it when people liveblog their experience of the podcast
Happy listening bestie!!
Alright TMA people I got a question.
What the fuck do the actual investigators of the Institute do?? Since yk episode 15/Lost John’s Cave/File 0140911 seems to imply that the Archivists have to go out and do investigating on their own?
Jon mentioned that Martin didn’t wanna do the investigation on this case cause of his claustrophobia. Which only makes sense if Martin feared investigating would mean going inside one of the caves. Which would mean he had to be at the actual caves. Which means they actually leave the Archive to do actual on-site investigation. And not just, like i thought up until then, get their investigation material from hacking, collaborating with government people that for some reason agree to help them (they did mention having some contacts there) or the occasional bout of “Tim is out and about, seducing / stealing his way to getting the evidence/statements/paperwork we need from people”.
Which leaves me with the question: if the Archivists have to do stuff besides archiving, namely investigating, then what in the bloody hells are the actual Investigators doing? Or Researchers or however Jon called them. I know they exist. They have a Library and sound slightly stuck up and the Archive only gets the full case files after they are done doing their stuff. (Or so I think it has been mentioned.) but now it turns out the Archivists are apparently doing the job you’d think by name alone the Investigators/Researchers would be doing. So that leaves the question what those people are doing? Do they just sit around all day twiddeling their thumbs and laughing at the genius of getting 4 people to do all their work for them?
Also is there a way to answer this without massively spoilering me? I just heard this episode/file and would love to not have spoilers of the various plot twists and revelations i know are waiting for me.

It’s Wild to remember the days Jon was defensive of the Institute’s reputation:
(MAG001) ARCHIVIST: My name is Jonathan Sims. I work for the Magnus Institute, London, an organisation dedicated to academic research into the esoteric and the paranormal. […] most of the Institute prefers the ivory tower of pure academia to the complicated work of dealing with statements or recent experiences and you have the recipe for an impeccably organised library and an absolute mess of an archive.
(MAG028) ARCHIVIST: We are not “paranormal investigators”. We are researchers. Scholars.
(MAG034) ARCHIVIST: Historic and prestigious as the Magnus Institute is, there are still many within the sphere of higher education that do not grant it the respect it deserves […].
Because… ah, yes… the prestigious Magnus Institute and its prestigious academic staff: Gertrude “if you have a problem, the solution is probably plastic explosives” Robinson, Elias “Extended Sound Of Brutal Pipe Murder” Bouchard, Jonathan “I broke into Gertrude’s flat” and “It is remarkably easy to buy an axe in Central London” Sims, Timothy “flirt my way into police reports” Stoker, Sasha “hack my way into police reports” James, Martin “Also, I get to burn some stuff, so that’s cool!” and “Turns out my suggestion is… fire!” Blackwood, Melanie “is on her way up here with a knife” and “They don’t get that the only way to deal with something like him is to watch his eyes go dead with your hands around his throat” King, Basira “We go in, we plant bombs, we leave, we blow it all to hell” Hussain, Daisy “Fine. Killing mannequins for Elias. And a clown. It’s been alright” and “Broke into Elias’s old office” Tonner, plus honorary mention for Helen “The door may have been in a wall some distance above a river” Distortion Richardson.
Ivory Tower Of Pure Academia, indeed.

6. ABSOLUTE SHIT at lying (All of Jon in season 2 (special mention to “It, ah, uh, it’s a, a performance review thing, going over some files for it.” “But that looks like a picture of his house?” “Confidential files that you… Legally, you shouldn’t really be looking at them, please, er, please leave–”) / Melanie “Ahaha, I brought you a nonpoisoned coffee because you’re such a lovely boss and I do that all the time, nothing to get suspicious about!” King)
7. DELIQUENTS who sneak their ways in places they shouldn’t be (Jon “I broke into Gertrude’s flat!” and stealing the key to the tunnels from Elias’s desk at the beginning of season 2; Serial Trespasser Melanie sneaking her way into closed hospitals and train graveyards, and stealing evidence from Elias’s office.)
(3bis. Specifically got stabbed in the shoulder by a scalpel.)
Cant decide which is funnier tbh.
