Saturday fan forums:
General notes
- all teams were asked which other circuit would they convert to a night race, and which driver on the grid would they pick to do an escape room with
Red Bull and haas
- max was maxsplaining to checo a lot in the corner. However every time they were called upon they were able to answer
- kmag: “I got a free holiday”
- max and checo said they would do the escape room together. According to max they would be super confused, give up, and sit in a corner
- max didn’t believe everyone would pick Oscar. Says it’s a conspiracy
- kmag said he’d take his teammate but Nico said he would take Bottas so they can have quiet time
- Nico on the night race question: “what about a MORNING race” Max: No.
- checo said he wanted Vegas and got it
- max suggested mugello
- also max: we already have enough races we don’t need another. Ok if we flip one race to night we take out another five races. Checo wants to do Vegas twice.
Ferrari and Alpine
- people were screaming so loudly for them I couldn’t always hear what they were saying
- Carlos was busy reading all the signs and not paying attention that he missed when they asked the night race question 😂
- Carlos and Charles at the side discussing the different signs tgt like the judgy gossipy kids they are while the alpines are talking
- Esteban picked Paris for a night race. I missed Pierre’s answer. Charles says Monaco obviously. Carlos (after going “wait what was the question??” bcos he was spaced out) gives a loooong thought then decides on australia. He added something about how to make it different from aus gp currently but I couldn’t hear
- Carlos immediately picks Charles for the escape room qn. Pierre looks like he wants to pick Charles but Charles says “no, I’ll pick my teammate ☺️” (and Carlos’ laugh/smile at this point……I wish I got it on camera) so Pierre and Esteban decide to also pick each other (fascinating) decides to also pick Esteban but Esteban picks Fernando because of how the other night during the rain apparently Fernando found some way to find shelter while everybody was running around getting wet.
- saw on someone else’s video that Pierre said he was heartbroken now lmaoooo
- at some random point the Ferrari drivers saw there was a band set up on stage and was like WE SHOULD DO A CONCERT and Carlos is egging Charles to go on the keyboard while saying he/someone will do the guitar and then he also goes to the singing mic and pretends to sing or something (idk what was going on what is wrong with them they are so random)
Merc
- George doesn’t suggest a night race location but says they should do a night race without the street lights and give them car headlamps and night vision goggles instead
- Lewis says Macau would be good but how about we bring a race to Africa!!!
- Lewis picks Yuki for the escape room again on the “he is small” logic. Can’t remember George’s answer George co-opts this answer and says “yeah WE pick Yuki”
- Lewis at one point: Roscoe gets support everywhere awww <3 (some ppl had Roscoe signs in the crowd. There were also Leo and Piñon signs)
The crowd today was apparently the largest fan forum at Singapore and also one of the largest this year. People were really excited for both Ferrari boys and Lewis too. I imagine Alex and Yuki and Zhou got a lot of love yesterday because we also support our fellow Asian drivers here!

A little earlier in the F2 season, we caught up with Williams Racing Academy Driver Logan Sargeant.
Wanting to get to know him just a little bit better, and with a big date in Austin now on the horizon, we tasked him with answering 22 questions about racing and life in general.
Here’s what he had to say…
What race day rituals do you have?
If weekends are going well, I tend to stick with the same underwear for each day. Before you worry, they’re different pairs! I have a Friday, Saturday, Sunday set. But if it’s not going well, I have to make a change!
What's your go-to coffee order?
Latte, but it's a double espresso before quali.
What's the inspiration behind your racing number?
This year it’s six because I can’t choose in F2, but when I am allowed to pick, it would be No3. Three for Dale Earnhardt, an all-out American hero.
Your favourite drink?
I’ve only just turned 21… but it’s water, of course.
If you had to cook one main course to impress a loved one, what would it be?
Oooo… I’m not much of a cook, but I can tell you what I would order in! I love a good prime rib.
What’s your favourite film?
Love the Jump Streets, but I’ve got a lot of time for Step Brothers. But if I had to choose out of the two, I’d go Jump Streets. I suppose I have to choose which one?! But 21 and 22 are both pretty good. Ah, I can’t decide.
Who is the toughest rival you've come up against so far?
It’s got to be the battle in Formula 3 between myself and Oscar Piastri.
Your favourite cheat meal?
Fortunately I have a quick metabolism, so they come relatively often… my American roots mean it would have to be a nice, juicy burger.
How many attempts did it take to pass your driving test?
Just one, which is apparently pretty rare for racing drivers! That’s including the practical and the theory.
Which track are you most looking forward to in 2022?
It’s got to be Monaco, but I’m looking forward to seeing the F1 team in Miami.
You can choose one song only to listen to before a race, what is it?
Lose Yourself - Eminem.
Is there one circuit not on your calendar that you'd love to race at?
Obviously it’s either Miami or Austin; to have a home race would be amazing. That said, I’d love to race at Suzuka some day.
Who is your favourite sports team outside of F1?
Anything Miami! We’re talking Heat, Dolphins, Marlins, Inter Miami… they’ve all got my support.
Least favourite exercise your trainer set for you in the offseason?
I’d say it’s got to be all the extra cardio I had to do to get ready for F2.
What's a better feeling, nailing a quali lap or executing a late overtake?
I saw what Nicky and Alex said to this answer and I have to agree. Nailing a quali lap all day long. It’s my favourite part of a weekend, I love putting it all on the line.
Is there anyone you idolised when growing up?
In racing, my first hero when I was a kid was, funnily enough, Jeff Gordon. I just loved watching him and the way he fought on track.
Favourite sport that's not F1?
At the moment, I’d have to say NFL. But it switches between that and the NBA.
If you could invite anyone in the world to a dinner party, which three people would you choose and why?
I would invite Leo DiCaprio, I feel he’s kind of cool. Then let’s also invite Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. Let’s make it an A-List movie night!
What is your favourite Grand Prix?
Well, I could be biased and say Austin. I mean, how can you argue against 450,000 fans across the three days last year? That was pretty awesome. But I’ve got to say I love Silverstone as well.
What's been your favourite moment of your career so far?
My rookie race in Macau where I finished third. Definitely, 100%, hands down my favourite track in the world.
One word to describe how you're feeling about the 2022 season?
Confident.
One word that best describes Williams Racing to you?
Supportive.

[GP3 & F2 LIVE]
-George mentioned he loves Montoya for his aggressiveness (also said he admires Verstappen for the same reason and his overtaking, in another interview as well), Hamilton for his strength in pace. But overall, he picks Schumacher as his all time favorite. He said it's a difficult pick!
-Because George has only previously driven the night race thrice (Bahrain, AD quali, AD race), he actually makes a gamble of undercutting De Vries during AD18 to try and take the lead back. No one had any clear idea of how long the tyres were going to last and he managed it! He compromised a bit by managing the tyres when he could've pulled a +10s gap but with the risk of the tyres being gone due to how the Abu Dhabi circuit is
-The press commented on how George had a really good attitude and they're excited to see how he goes in the future
-George names Maggots and Becketts (Silverstone) as his favorite corner. But also mentions Parabolica (Monza) as one of the greatest ones.
-George Russell said he won't participate in the 2017 Macau GP because he'd have to seal his championship win before the final in Abu Dhabi and he's not sure if he can do that. Later, He did win it before Abu Dhabi and had the chance to participate in the 2017 Macau GP but by Jerez, he was sick with ear infection and even then, he had to drive while being sick in Jerez. So, no Macau GP 2.0 in the end for him
-George's favorite race track in the GP3 calendar is Silverstone because that's where he got his first F1 test and it's his home race but his favorite race track in the world is Macau because it's one of a kind street circuit, "nothing can ever come close to it"
-F2 Era George drives a Mercedes A200. He also would like to drive Senna to Mansell, early 90s Williams F1 car if he had the chance!
-On other interviews, George mentioned liking Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United but he didn't in this specific interview. George mentions football player Ronaldinho as his favorite player in the past though!
-George asked for the press to include Alex Albon in the championship photoshoot of him and Lando at Sochi 2018. He also kept reminding the press of Alex's achievement throughout the 2018 F2 season and also talks about his rivalry/friendship with Alex.
-George's lows on F2 season was Baku FR, when Nyck De Vries locked up and crashed to George who was in the lead, causing George to drop down to P12. Although everyone backs him, he felt like he could do something or compromise a bit to minimize the accident that day. While his overall lows is the Monaco GP where he had engine failure during the practice, qualifies P16 and +1s from pole, and DNF-ed in both races. He also mentions Baku SR as his memorable race as he managed to fight to P1 from his initial P12 starting position.
-Other than not participating again at Macau GP, George also opted out from Race of Champions because he didn't want to risk sustaining any serious injury that might have an impact on his upcoming racing schedules.
-George mentions about being interested in oval track racing after watching Fernando Alonso in Indy500 and that he'll be interested to try that out in the future
-George did not play F1 2016 or other racing related games due to his busy schedule with being the sim driver. He mentions he plays the "upgraded version" of it with the Mercedes F1 Simulator instead.
-A fan asked about how the sim works had helped him in GP3 races and George said the sim works did not help him much for race prep as the set up for the simulator is for an F1 car while he drives a GP3 cars but it gives him more laps and experience under his belt on different circuits.
-The celebratory chocolate brownie that he ate after Austria 2017 (the one where he took a pic with Valtteri) did not taste that good. He flew back with the Mercedes team and they offered everyone champagne or chocolate brownies. George had to opt for the brownies.
-George was asked by a fan about his opinion on what Liberty Media is doing in F1 😭😭 He responds to it maturely with saying that Liberty Media aims to have more publicity for the Formula One by having more coverage of the sport and he respects that they are trying to do so as well with the feeder series. He said he looks forward to what they'll do in the future.
-Another fan asked him about the Mercedes powertrain plan (as well as Mercedes' GT3 powertrain plans 😭😭). Again, he answers it maturely by saying the fan should ask Mercedes that as George didn't have much knowledge about it.

Macau GP 70th Anniversary
YOU. YEAH YOU READING THIS. This is me trying to pursued you to go watch the Macau GP this weekend. This track is historic and legendary. And one of the most fun and dangerous street circuits (imo) with tight corners and varying elevations. It is still the oldest (active) street circuit that still holds F3 (+other races) and isn't part of the F1 World Championship (the other being New Zealand🤝)
Since it’s the 70th anniversary and they are holding two wholeass race weekends with a BANGER entry list this year (full list at the end of the post), so why not take a trip down memory lane and talk about some iconic races and drivers throughout the years. [LONG POST, just saying][Also, surprises underneath]
Macau Grand Prix, Guia Circuit (or Circuito da Guia)—a circuit that spans 6.120km, with different elevations over 30 meters top to bottom (in non-metric terms: 2 small pine trees, or 2 volleyball courts for all non-metric people out there👍). Top speed: 260km/h for an F3 car, which is already a handful. This circuit has had little to no changes since the beginning of its grand opening. While this track serves as a stepping stone for drivers, it remains an independent circuit and race of its own. Though still having an affiliate with the FIA.
Although the first race event began in 1954, they didn’t introduce F3 until 1983. Which they had a strong start for F3 with the likes of Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, respectively taking first and third place.
youtube
A few years later; Eddie Irvine, Damon Hill, Jean Alesi also left their marks on this race track.
But the most iconic moment came in 1990. The battle of Schumacher vs Hakkinen. The beginning of their motor rivalry.
youtube
Schumi took first place while Mika unfortunately crashed out at the back of Schumi’s car.
Jenson Button (a literal child) in 1999, second place. God works hard but those mechanics work even harder
youtube
In 2003-2004, both Lewis and Nico took part, whilst Lewis took pole and they both showed great results in qualifying. Neither of them went on to podium in both years.
2005: baby Seb starting to shine through and took third at the main race, just behind Kubica
youtube
They put a baby in a fast car
2009: Daniel, Valtteri, and Jules took the challenge. Jules started near the back end of the grid but was steady racing and finished 10th. Valtteri started 4th, had the opportunity to be on podium until he got a puncture on the last lap that saw him finish fifth. Daniel-not the best start- clipped the wall and punctured his left rear, carried on a little bit more until he crashed out of the race :( can’t find any video cuz apparently no one cared enough about 2009
2011: Valtteri’s third year in a row; the previous got him third place but this one he retired the car on lap 4 due to an accident. Kmag, da Costa, Carlos participated but all in all, half the grid retired in the end.
youtube
Pre-mustache Bottas and baby redbull Carlos
Bloop! 2014: a wild baby Max appears! Boy had good results in qualifying, placing him third, but in the quali race he lost control and crashed. Main race-7th. Nick Cassidy, Nicki Latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alex Palou finished 3rd, 5th, 12th and 16th. Unfortunately, Antonio Fuoco and Estie Bestie retired :(
youtube
Yes, Max did get the fastest lap
2015: Everybody’s favourite! Charles Leclerc has entered the ring. Charlie’s aggressive attack led him to second place and on that podium. Giovinazzi-4th, Lance Stroll-8th, Nick Cassidy-12th and following close behind, my boy, Alexander Albon-13th
youtube
The race was that good even FIA had to post it on their channel lol
youtube
The infamous onboard camera
2016: we see the introduction of George Russell, Landon Norris, Callum Ilott, Guanyu Zhou and Ticktum (But we’re not gonna talk about him🤭). It was an okay race, António Félix da Costa took first (came 9th in the recent WEC👏) and Nikita crashed.
That year gave us baby Lando and baby George who took his first pole *surprise🎉*
2017: A fucking great racing year, Lando came second due to Habsburg and Sette Câmara crashing out in the final corner. It’s Mick’s first year, though not the best result but did manage to snatch the fastest lap 💨
youtube
2018: it was a scary ass race and I remember standing in front of the TV just watching this. Lisboa corner is famously know for a lot of accidents, Sophia Flörsch made contact with another that send her airborne and crashed into the barriers and fractured her vertebrae. Final standing: Mick-5th, Ilott-7th, Schwartzman-9th, Zhou-11th, Vesti-15th
I’m not gonna post the video, you can go look it up if you’re interested
2019: a lot more familiar faces: Richard Verschoor, Jüri Vips (yeah that one), Logan Sargeant, Callum Ilott came back for another year, Liam Lawson with his bestie Yuki Tsunoda, Enzo Fittipaldi, Max Fewtrell🫡, David Schumacher, Felipe Drugovich, Schwartzman’s second attempt and Sophia Flörsch
youtube
3 years of absence and we are back! 2023!
This year there’s two whole weekends, from 11-12th November and 16-19th November. And they’ve a banger list of drivers like Bianca Bustamante for F4 and Richard Verschoor taking another stab at it.
Macau F4 race is happening on the 11-12th:
F4 is happening the week after on 16-19th
The FIA is streaming F3 on the YouTube channel (streaming f3 not f4🥲…go watch motor gp too it’s on the same day) but you could probably watch it on other streaming platforms too (you know the ones👀👀)
If you haven’t seen the Macau GP before…give it a go! It’s brilliant!
*side note: if Fernando or Lewis ever retires from f1 and have nothing else to do…I’d like to see them tackle this track (again for Lewis) maybe not f3, maybe something like GT cup or something. It would be verrrry interesting👀
#ok I wrote this on and off and in between my essays so I do apologize if words don’t make sense cuz I’m running on redbull and no sleep#and I technically theoretically wrote this selfishly cuz it’s my home turf and I wanna show some love#charles leclerc#sebastian vettel#max verstappen#lando norris#carlos sainz jr#alex albon#daniel ricciardo#lewis hamilton#george russell#ayrton senna#michael schumacher#mika häkkinen#bianca bustamante#f1#formula 1#f2#f3#f1 academy#macau grand prix#macau gp

The 70th running of the Macau GP (+ Google calendar of schedule)
For the first time in 10 years the Macau GP is run over two weekends again, with the first races taking place this weekend. And the important FIA F3 World Cup and the FIA GT World Cup will race next weekend and also the Motorcycle Grand Prix.
I have made a Google calendar with the complete schedule, which you can find down below.
The Macau GP is one of the only two current national Grand Prix events that are not part of the Formula One World Championship, the New Zealand GP being the other one.
History
The first running of the race was held in 1954 as a club race for local motor enthusiasts. It initially started off as an endurance race where 15 entrants competed in a four hour race over 51 laps.
In 1960 the race was first entered on the international racing calendar, and was subject for the first time to the regulations published by the FIA for sports and grand touring cars.
In 1978 to celebrate the race's 25th anniversary, a "Race of Giants" was organised. Where drivers like Jacky Ickx, Sir Stirling Moss, Bobby Unser, Phil Hill and Sir Jack Brabham participated.
In 1983 the race was first run as the FIA Formula 3 World Cup. Which was won by a young Ayrton Senna.
In 1998 Peter Dumbreck won the closest ever Macau Grand Prix - and the closest motor race in history at that time - when he beat Ricardo Mauricio by just 0.003 seconds.
More history can be found here
Format
As mentioned, the event will be run over two weekends. This is not the usual format but done for its 70th anniversary.
The past years the GT World Cup and The F3 World Cup weren't run because of Covid, this meant the main race was run with F4 cars. And mainly local drivers participated. This year F3 returns with an international field but Formula 4 stays.
FIA F3 World Cup
In 1983 the race was first run as the FIA Formula 3 World Cup. The Formula 3 race used to be more of an all-star race for drivers from several Formula 3 championships or even from other high profile championships.
But recently the FIA has reduced the Formula 3 championships so FIA F3 is the only major one to exist. This means it can now basically been seen as a non championship round for the FIA F3 championships.
This year however, still several drivers have stepped down again to F3 to participate. Formula E Driver Dan Ticktum, is a two-time winner of the event and has returned. Richard Verschoor, Formula 2 driver and the last winner of the event back in 2019 returns. But also IndyCar driver Marcus Armstrong joins the field.
Sophia Floersch also returns to the race to be there for the third time, during her debut she suffered a massive crash where she suffered a spinal fracture.
Formula 4
The Formula 4 SEA Championship runs from 11-12 November and will feature three female drivers. Vivian Siu, Miki Koyama and Bianca Bustamante. Vivian Siu is the only one of these to drive the complete F4 Sea championship this year. The Macau round however, is a non-championship round.
Formula 4 runs qualifying from 08:45 - 09:15 (CEST) on Saturday 11 November and their qualifying race from 01:00 - 01:25 (CEST). And they close the weekend with their main race from 08:40 - 09:20 (CEST)
TCR & GT
Several regional TCR and GT series race on the streets of Macau during the two Macau weekends. The first TCR race at Macau was held in 1972, and this was rare as TCR cars rarely raced at street circuits. Currently it's the final round of the China TCR Championship.
Motorcycle GP
Macau is a special event for motorcycle riders and has been since 1967. Their main race is on Saturday 18 November.
GT World Cup
The Macau GT Cup was added in 2008, and has been one of the most important supporting races of the Grand Prix since then.
The FIA GT World Cup is a race for GT3-spec cars organised by the SRO. This year it will be the sixth edition of the FIA GT World Cup.
Entry Lists
All entry lists can be found here.
The Track
Length: 3.8 miles (6.2 km)
Minimum width: 22.8 feet (7 m)
Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix Lap Record: 2:06.317 (Jüri Vips, 2019, FIA Formula 3)
Macau GT Cup Lap Record: 2:17.182 (Earl Bamber, 2019, Porsche 911 GT3 R)
Macau Guia Race Lap Record: 2:27.009 (Rob Huff, 2014, Lada Granta 1.6T)
Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix Lap Record: 2:23.616 (Stuart Easton, 2010, Kawasaki)
Where to Watch?
Every day is streamed on motorsport.tv, on the Macau GP Facebook page and their website.
Schedule
The schedule can be found right here in local time
I have added all sessions to my Google Calendar

staring at maps and decided to improve the monaco gp circuit by finding places where you could theoretically pass a car
hit the first left after turn one and bypass the casino entirely, then hang a right and hit a narrow, but long DRS zone along boulevard de moulins/italie, then go through some mid/high speed corners that will look good on camera
then finagle around the weird elevated roundabout on the french side of the border, and follow the twisty road down to to boulevard de larvotto, and hit another long, *very* narrow drs zone before bearing right onto a street that takes you up to the shopping mall
after that, take two lefts and rejoin the normal circuit (maybe go the wrong way around the roundabout before the main tunnel so you get more of a run up at it)
there are some problems:
a lot of arguments for preserving the monaco gp circuit as it is boil down to tradition, and making the track longer than spa isn't very traditional
a bunch of roundabouts and medians with trees in them would have to be flattened and replaced with movable planter boxes. many useful pedestrian blisters would also have to be eliminated and replaced with removable solutions
boulevard de larvotto would have to have its sidewalks converted into additional tarmac for the road, with removable curbs to delineate pedestrian areas on non-race days, otherwise it's straight up macau width through there
even with the widening of boulevard de larvotto, you might end up having to implement special overtaking rules where you straight up just stay in the right lane unless you're hitting the DRS, it is very narrow
also, the stretch of boulevard de larvotto/avenue de grand bretagne would effectively be a straightaway as long as the main straight at fuji but only 2-3 car lengths wide, which would be frowned on by anyone who cares about safety
the biggest obstacle would be the bit where the course briefly crosses the french border, which would be a bureaucratic nightmare thanks to this tiny city-state's existence
outside of these minor details i think it would be fun

🇦🇿 Azerbaijan GP 🇦🇿
Circuit information for the Baku City Circuit
The six kilometre, anti-clockwise layout was designed by Hermann Tilke. The circuit was planned to start adjacent to Azadliq Square, then loop around Government House before heading west along a 1 km straight to the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower. Here, the track was planned to have a narrow 7.6 m (25 ft) uphill traversal and then circle the Old City before opening up onto a 2.2 km (1.4 mi) stretch along Neftchilar Avenue back to the start line. The circuit was projected to be the fastest street circuit in the world, with a top speed close to 360 km/h and the second longest circuit on the current F1 calendar behind the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, (it is now the third longest behind Jeddah as well.)
Baku’s high maximum speed of 337kph is achieved by long flat-out sections broken up by a lot of low-speed corners, not unlike Montreal (and Macau). Sector 3 is much faster than sectors 1 and 2 as it contains most of the 2km-long longest flat-out stretch and just one braking event. This is a part of the circuit that is perfect for long DRS and slipstream battles, however due to the hard breaking zones it’s unlikely that the only overtakes will be DRS passes (but they will be in the majority)

If you could create a racing championship, what kind of cars would you choose, what kind of format would the championship have, who would race?
oh nonnie i fear my answer won't be as interesting as some of the others'. but i'll do my best regardless.
maybe an electric feeder series. yes we had fe school. yes we had i-pace etrophy. this will be like f2 or f3, but electric.
i considered holding their races alongside the actual formula e races, but that wouldn't be always feasible, so i think maybe half the races would be supporting the fe races, the other half at non-street circuits (it would probably be cheaper, considering you wouldn't have to close roads and redirect traffic). they NEED to race at macau. give me macau or give me death.
cars will probably be like current fe cars but not as fast. like f2, everyone gets the same chassis and drivetrain. like f3, each team runs 3 cars. no attack mode or fanboost. quali is the superpole style, then we have race 1, then race 2 has the top 8 reversed.
just like how indycar has a road to indy, if formula e had its own feeder series it would help them look more like a proper series in its own right rather than a "place for f1 rejects" (which couldn't be more incorrect). i would like to see junior drivers try their hands out at electric vrooms. i want to see a prema with a neon electric green against their prema red instead of their typical green. idk where im going with this. hope you enjoyed this as much as i enjoyed speculating about this nonnie

5 Tracks That Should Replace Shanghai
The 2020 Chinese Grand Prix has been postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak in the country. However, missing a trip to Shanghai this season may not be the worst thing in the world for Formula 1, avoiding a track that has provided dull racing and poor attendances year after year.
The postponement of this race is the perfect excuse for F1 to drop Shanghai from its calendar, so what could or should replace it?
5. A different track in China, Chinese Grand Prix
China is a massive market for F1, it’s one of the biggest countries in the world with a booming economy.
Formula E has a successful event in China, with their street track in Sanya, and the prestigious Macau Grand Prix is also hosted on a street track in the country, so perhaps F1 should look at doing similar.
There aren’t any other stand-out permanent facilities in China, so it might be the only way to go.
4. Sepang International Circuit, Malaysian Grand Prix
The Malaysian Grand Prix was no stranger to some drama.
In 2016 Lewis Hamilton had his title charge derailed by a rare Mercedes engine failure, leaving the Red Bulls to fight it out wheel-to-wheel for the victory, and who can forget the massive downpour during the 2009 race, which turned the track into a lake and brought a premature end to proceedings.
Fans were gutted when the circuit opted not to return to the calendar at the end of its contract that expired in 2017, and it would be a popular choice to return.
It keeps the F1 franchise in Asia if they insist on staying out there for so much of the season and is already a known quantity in recent F1 history, however is unlikely to happen any time soon.
3. Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Imola, San Marino Grand Prix
A return to Imola has to be a priority for F1, something that Liberty Media has disappointingly failed to deliver.
Liberty has failed to deliver any sort of security for any of the historic tracks in F1, masked behind the return for Zandvoort and a last-minute deal to keep Silverstone on the calendar.
The home of Ferrari and the Tifosi, a trip to Imola used to be a staple of the season and the start of the European stretch every year, something that has been replaced with a dull trip to Catalunya.
The timing of the Chinese Grand Prix is very close to when Imola used to appear on the calendar, and Europe is cheaper for all of the teams to get to, compared to a flyaway race, so this could be a brilliant fit.
2. Fuji Speedway, Pacific Grand Prix
Moving back to the Toyota owned track could be the perfect way to tempt the Japanese manufacturer back to the sport.
Fuji served up all kinds of drama when it made a brief return to the calendar in 2007 and 2008, the former was an extremely wet race won by Lewis Hamilton and the latter saw incidents littered across a crazy few opening laps and a surprise victory for Renault and Fernando Alonso (without cheating that time).
The track could return under the “Pacific Grand Prix” tag, which was used when F1 wanted a second Japanese race in the 90s when we went racing at the TI Circuit for two years and would work logistically for all the teams with Suzuka and Singapore already on the calendar.
Japan is also a massive market for F1, with huge crowds already flocking to Suzuka every year, and it’s another option to keep racing in Asia if the sport wants to keep expanding there.
1. Kyalami, South African Grand Prix
How can F1 be a “World Championship” if it ignores Africa?
South Africa is the lead contender to bring top tier Motorsport back to the continent, with 20 Grands Prix taking place at the legendary Kyalami Circuit between 1967 and 1993.
Kyalami has seen a massive regeneration project since Porsche bought out the circuit and started to upgrade it to an FIA Grade Two Circuit, meaning its nearly ready to host F1 again, for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The location of the country also works logistically for F1 teams to either fly down after Bahrain and before Vietnam or after both rounds, just before the circus heads back to Europe.
A return to South Africa would be brilliant for the country and brilliant for F1, an all-round winner and the racing might not be bad either…

MACAU.
Kate and I spoke about me going there on Friday while she had a few things she had to do in Hong Kong, but by the time Friday rolls in I completely forget about it. She comes into my room in the morning, I’m still in bed, and reminds me I’m meant to be going to Macau today and that tours normally start early - so I rush to the ferry terminal.
I fumble my way through purchasing a return ticket that departs in less than 30 minutes, when I’m told to get my passport ready for immigration - luckily I have it with me. It’s at this point that I realise Macau is another country (well, an autonomous region). I plan to do some reading about it on my way over, when I look at the non-refundable ticket and my heart sinks - because I realise it’s a light plane (no fucking way). The company’s name is TurboJet and I’m holding a boarding pass - how could I have missed that?
I run back to the ticket office in panic, only to realise that no it’s not a plane, of course. Do you see a runway? I’m in the *ferry* building. It’s a boat. I swear the iconography on the ticket was ambiguous. And I’m reminded that it departs in 15 minutes so I’d better hurry as still need to go through passport control. When the boat departs (with me on it), I realise why it’s called TurboJet.
At first sight Macau looks to me like stolen photos I’ve seen of North Korea. Open spaces with scattered yet breathtakingly impressive mega-structures. I snap what I can, but I will need to do a separate post tomorrow morning with only and more photos from Macau.
Macau was originally a Portuguese colony and only went back to China in 1999, so all the signs and street names are in Portuguese & Chinese (I don’t know if Cantonese or Mandarin). It’s the only place in the world where the two are fused, and the combination is beautiful. What a curious mix of architecture, culture and food. I will post all the videos and additional photos tomorrow.
I take the hop on/ hope off bus and get off at town centre. I’m meant to be back at this stop in either 45 or 90 minutes - to jump on the next one and continue to the next stops, but end up walking for 3.5 hours all over town. I completely lose myself in the neighbourhoods, alleys, shops. I follow my nose to nowhere, the top of the hill and all the way down again through the other side. Every street corner is different, every turn brings a new sight around. I’m blissfully lost in all the markets and smells.
The sun is burning hot and I’m a puddle of sweat, my shirt is soaking wet. And I am wearing my lunch - I bit into a juicy prawn in my wonton bowl. Luckily I can’t post how I smell.
I manage to make it back for the last hop on bus, and stay on for the rest of the stops to enjoy the view. Being the last bus for the day, however, it concludes the circuit at the Venetian Casino, instead of the ferry building. There is another bus to the ferry, which leaves from the West Lobby of the casino, and naturally I’m in the Eastern one - so I cut through the entire casino in my classy attire and parfume de SWEAT.
My mind is blown by the interior decor - photos tomorrow. It is out of this world and extravagant. I make it back to the ferry, and eventually to Hong Kong and decide to walk all the way back up the hill to the house. By the time I arrive, I have no water, snacks or fruit left and the sun has run out as well.
I have made the most out of my wonderful day of wander.
