I was made aware of this through a reddit post: we can nominate movies to be preserved in the National Film Registry, and we should nominate some Dreamworks movies. Shrek is already in it. The criteria is that the nominations must be at least 10 years old and an American film. With this in mind, I think we should nominate the following movies to be preserved in the registry:

The Prince of Egypt

Chicken Run

Kung Fu Panda

How to Train Your Dragon

You can nominate up to 50 movies at this submission form. Deadline is August 15. The Library of Congress also has a list of notable movies that haven't been preserved in the registry yet, which includes other Dreamworks movies you could nominate:

Duality of Dreamworks Character backstories

So we’re all aware about how Dreamworks giving most heartbreaking, traumatizing & painful backstories for their characters right? 

AND THEN THERE IS BRANCH’S BACK STORY!!!

NOT ONE BUT TWO BACKSTORIES!! FIRST WE GET THE WHOLE “SINGING KILLED MY GRANDMA” MEME & THE SECOND ONE HIS BROTHERS ABANDONING HIM WITH THE MOST GOD AWFUL BOY BAND PUNS!!!

Shows/Movies I’m Watching to Get Inspo for My Book!

-Adventure Time for the post-apocalyptic world

-Handmaid’s Tale for the dystopian, reproductively authoritarian government

-Avatar (movie) for the pretty, glowy forest and animalistic humanoids

-Avatar the Last Airbender for the seamless world-building and storytelling

-She-ra for the gay, the magical world and the character design variety

-Steven Universe for the conspiracies and the heartfelt moments

-Croods for the cool animal designs and ideas

-Hilda for the mysterious wilderness vibes

-Where The Crawdads Sing for the foresty, nature-loving romance

-Arcane for the attention to detail, deep metaphors and character-building

-Last of Us for a fresh take on how humans would handle an apocalypse

I’m also reading Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green to get good at explaining scientific concepts to the average person in a way thats entertaining and digestible.

i think dreamworks is a great studio and upon watching all of their movies this year for their 30th anniversary, there are very few that I dislike. even shark tale has its moments, sykes is an icon. and i've gained a new appreciation for some of their movies like the httyd series, monsters vs aliens, over the hedge, the croods (especially the sequel). over the hedge was way ahead of its time, and monsters vs aliens is actually secretly a feminist masterpiece.

and their early days just hit different. i mean, we have a CGI movie about ants overthrowing a fascist, two 2D movies in a row, one adapting the book of exodus and the other being a parody of those old "road to" movies, a claymation movie that's basically the great escape, and of course, a certain cgi ogre. quite the lineup!

Up next for Nic Cage November...

The Croods! I love The Croods, it's adorable. A movie that tricks you into thinking it's about Eep, when it's really about Grug. :heart: We don't get movies about old guys making changes very often--especially animated movies about old guys making changes. Love it.

And of course Nic Cage's performance is a lot of fun! Hits it perfectly--which is unusual for a non voice actor to do.

i was binge watching both Croods movies last night and oh my god I don't think I've ever seen a more Luaisy-coded couple than Eep and Guy I might just have to create a Luaisy Caveman AU- *explodes*
