“Oh, Merlin, tell me, does THE RUNAWAY get what she deserves?” She is NEUTRAL & CLOSED to finding out.
— she walks through the world as ;
name → corin hale pronouns → she/her identification → cis-female year of birth → september 1960 - september 1961 face claim → odeya rush blood status → muggle (werewolf) sexual orientation → up to roleplayer occupation → petty criminal future information → n/a
— she is best described as ;
A PUNCH to the FACE, a LIONHEARTED woman with ATTITUDE, BRIMMING with CONFIDENCE, STRONG & STURDY. She’s as LOYAL as they come, the kind of person to give you their last COIN, a FRIENDLY face in a crowd and a SMILE that could break a HEART. TOUGH and worn like LEATHER. She’s SWEET like buttered popcorn & as DEADLY as a well aimed THROWING KNIFE.
— her story starts with ;
TW: death, blood, violence
Corin Hale’s life hasn’t ever been easy, but over the past three years it’s gotten even harder. Her life before she was bitten was relatively normal, though it has been so long the details Corin now finds fuzzy. Growing up in Radlett just outside of London, she was once the eldest daughter of Atai and Ekaterina Hale. A school teacher and a lawyer, they had wealth and Corin once wanted for nothing. It was the classic tale of a girl from North London, Friday night dinner, trips to the synagogue and playing second parent to her two younger sisters. She would frog march to Haberdashers' Girls' School, while her parents laughed. The world was at Corin’s feet and she rose each day with the knowledge that fate had been kind to her and given who she was, she could be anything she wanted. At seven years old what Corin wanted to do was be in the theatre. A larger than life character, she would organise her toys and her sisters to watch her perform, escaping to far off worlds where she’d transport them. All she ever wanted was to be up there with the greats. and it was this desire that led her parents to take them one evening after school to The Globe Theatre to watch a performance. Wide eyed, Corin was in her element, sitting on her father’s shoulders, looking intently at the stage as Much Ado About Nothing played out.
When the performance concluded, Corin begged her parents to let her meet the cast and get her program signed. But with her sisters tiring, the answer was no, but Corin had other ideas. Never one to listen to things her elders said, Corin ducked past her parents in the crowd, made her way back to the stage and waited, program in hand. She waited a long while, the cold evening air wrapping its arms around her. Eventually the cast came out and the excitement hit. Hugging her programme she watched them leave. The excitement faded and Corin realised she was alone. She knew London well enough, despite being so young she had always been resourceful and began the walk to Blackfriars where she could explain to someone that she’d gotten lost. Corin hadn’t made it far away from the theatre when fate intervened. It was a woman. At first anyway, who cornered her and asked if she was lost. Without thinking Corin told her of her plan to get back to Radlett and the woman offered to help. Taking her hand, they walked towards the station, until Corin was pulled into an alleyway and the woman was replaced with a wolf. Biting down hard on Corin’s shoulder, she felt the blood pool down her body and her life flash before her eyes. But before the wolf could continue to ravage her, it licked her shoulder and ran off into the night.
The screams attracted the attention of a couple who took her to the hospital and her parents were called. The next few days were a blur for Corin, in a trace due to the pain and home from school due to the attack. The night of the first full moon was where everything came into focus. One moment she was herself, the next she was an animal, running through the streets of Radlett howling at the moon. When she awoke she was in a park, covered in grass and mud, with every memory of where she’d been and frightened this was now her life. Hysterically she told her parents and begged them to try and understand but they didn’t believe her until it was too late. Trying to get outside of her house to transform, Corin watched in horror as her father held her back. She turned, he was holding on to her. Then suddenly he wasn’t and she’d escaped through the patio door. Only small due to her age, Corin wasn’t able to fully attack him, but when she returned home she found him clawed to pieces and the carpet covered in blood. Her parents tried desperately to help. They took her to hospitals but no one believed them. On full moons they chained her up in the garage where no one would see. She was a schoolgirl by day and a monster by night. Her life wasn’t normal. At night she would listen to her parents argue and cry while her sisters hugged each other in the doorway. Corin knew she was the issue and while she was there they’d never be safe.
One day, she packed up her backpack with all her belongings. Took it to school and left during lunchtime, with one thought in mind. Finding the wolf who had bitten her. She got by by stealing things, pick-pocketing and checking herself into hostels to avoid being on the streets before KAMALI SKENDER [mother] found her. Kamali ran Le Cirque Des Rêves, a travelling circus that was making its way round Europe and was stopping off in London for the summer. Aside from the strange woman who changed her, Kamali was the only werewolf that Corin had ever met and when she asked her to join the circus Corin agreed. Kamali became like a mother to Corin, teaching her everything she needed to know about the world she now belonged to and giving her a home. Corin didn’t think she’d ever find happiness after the bite, but with Kamali and then a few weeks later when SILAS CRUMP [father] joined the circus, she believed her life could be different. Time seemed to move differently for them. They became a family, performing in wizarding districts around the world and spreading their joy. By the time they returned back to London, Corin was twenty-two. A woman and an esteemed member of the troupe that she hoped to one day help run with her parents. London was not how Corin had remembered it and she watched as her father changed in its presence.
The once happy seemed darker and people whispered of dark wizards and cloak and dagger plans made by candle light. Feeling unwell after a performance, Corin walked back to their wagon to find her father frantically packing his belongings. Instantly her mind became sharp. Silas would never leave him and Kamali, something had happened and she wasn’t going to let him slip away without her help. Cornering him, Corin began packing her things and insisted he take her with him. He revealed everything to her, about his past, his family before them, the death of his sister and the two sorcerers who had come to collect. The pair slept in inns, apperated daily and tried to blend in but eventually RABASTAN LESTRANGE [adversary] and BELLATRIX BLACK [adversary] caught up with them. It was a full moon in Nottingham and just before Corin could shift, she felt her body be swept up. Her father was gone and Corin was chained in a basement by a collar. Having taken the wolfsbane her father had brewed Corin knew her mind and knew something was wrong. Most of the time she was alone in the basement, occasionally brought food and drink by the gruesome pair or SEVERUS SNAPE [adversary]. They wanted access to the circus, to the creatures. They wanted to know everything about them but Corin wouldn’t say a single word.
They used spells to try and make her talk, wicked magic that made every single part of her body scream out in pain. But Corin wouldn’t say a word. She was unsure how much time had passed before she saw the world again. They had stopped giving her wolfsbane a long time ago as punishment and were normally quite rigid with the checks until one night they weren’t. Severus had chained her up, but the chains hadn’t been changed in some time, worn by the nights spent pulling on them. When Corin transformed the chain broke from the wall and with the weight and power she now wielded it was nothing for her to break through Mr Mulpepper’s wooden basement door even with its enchanted locks. A rabid animal hungry for blood, Corin steamed through the streets, attacking anything in sight. ANDRESSA PARKINSON [victim], RODOLPHUS LESTRANGE [victim] and ROSALINE DAVIS [victim] were not known to her, faces in a crowd people in her way that were lucky enough to have people round them who could fight her off with their magic. When Corin came round on Hampstead Heath she had every memory of the night before, her life spent in the basement and her burning desire to find her family and get revenge. Now free, Corin hopes to learn everything she can about Bellatrix, Severus and Rabastan to make them pay for what they’ve done.

canon lily evans: who is she? part 1
there have been many fanon iterations of lily j. evans over the past two decades. she's been a perfect mother and wife, a goody two shoes who plays by the rules and makes sure everyone else does, she's been a kind, intelligent, beautiful dream girl, a genuis, fighting badass who takes no shit and solves everyone's problems, she's been a bitch, she's been an incubator.
it's hard to make an argument for or against any of these traits. we see little of her in canon, and much of it from highly biased sources (petunia, severus). nonetheless, lily j. evans has a canon foundation. let us explore.
we first hear of lily as she is mourned by professor mcgonagall, hagrid, and dumbledore. we see little to no characterization beyond the intensity of sadness all three feel over lily and james' deaths. plenty of people have died in the war, but lily and james' death seem to hit hard.
we hear lily's voice with harry for the first time in the third book, as she begs voldemort to spare her son.
we do not hear about her again besides references to harry's eyes until the 5th book.
snape's worst memory
we first see lily from snape's perspective, in his memories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
what an introduction. lily and james are at odds and it's lily that broke her way into the confrontation. she does not hesitate to command james, or to show her anger. but she also speaks cooly. she only shouts once to get james' attention as she's walking over and then chooses her words carefully. her goal is to hurt james, to shame him enough that he backs down.
we can see from her multiple insults to james—unnecessary, she could simple tell him to stop more, or appeal to his good nature, or get a teacher, or try to disarm him—that she is choosing cruelty in this moment. she believes james is behaving badly (unjustly, perhaps) and her method to stop him is publicly insulting him. the punishment matches the crime.
this all shows a decisiveness to lily's actions. she is sure of herself, quick thinking, she values justice more than popularity, and she is okay with being mean. if someone, james in this instance, has transgressed far enough outside of morality she is fine with using immoral behavior to put them in their place.
we could argue that insulting james is not immoral behavior, or that lily does not believe it is. but the fact is lily is trying to (emotionally) hurt james to protect snape when she has by-the-book options. she is not an idealist, and does not seem a goody-two shoes. (of course, she could've attacked him, but that wouldn't de-escalate. she's not a violent person, or too impulsive).
and then we come to this moment. still in the introduction to lily's character, snape calls her a Mudblood.
Tumblr media
lily does not shout. she blinks. she responds with an insult meant to further humiliate snape.
james shouts. james is ready to attack over the use of a slur, but lily is not. perhaps this is because the consequences will always be worse for her. perhaps she knows reacting will give the bigots watching satisfaction. perhaps her emotions are too private for this moment. whatever reason, lily is in control, and she uses insults to regain her power.
Tumblr media
"you're as bad as he is"
i rarely see this line worked through in jily fics. this line shows the deepest insight into lily's perspective. it is the first time she shouts, it's an emotional reaction. comparing james to snape may be a cruel statement designed to hurt james, but because lily did not deliver this line cooly, with foresight, i believe it is her true feelings.
she proceeds to insult james with, imo, fairly trivial bullshit, aside from the hexing. it's not that these actions are so horrible; lily is angry at james for his attitude. james gets to walk the halls without a care in the world and he clearly carries a sense of superiority. he isn't thinking about how his actions affect others. he doesn't have think about the sociopolitics of a situation until someone is shouting Mudblood in his face.
this is why lily sees james as bad as snape. james thinks he's a good guy, but he's contributing to a school environment where two rich pureblood boys get to torment whoever they like! he's not fighting bigotry just because he doesn't use slurs. james is ignorant and doing harm, like most teenagers.
lily sees the way both boys are hurting people, many of them vulnerable, and can't see a true difference. fair enough!
the next we hear of this is confirmation from remus and sirius that lily did not hate james, and that james became less of a dick. I'm sure both of these men remember james and lily overly-fondly. however, i believe their statements create a sketch of what happened off the page. james matured. there isn't a comment on lily maturing, however.
the memory highlights lily's self-control, her Machiavellian perspective on combating wrongdoing, her deep rooted anger and morals, her wit, and her strong sense of loyalty.
it isn't until the 6th book that we receive more insight into lily's character. this comes from horace slughorn, her potions master.
horace slughorn & lily evans
Tumblr media
he remembers lily as one of the brightest students he ever had. vivacious means full of life, animated. though it also indicates attractiveness, i find it meaningful that slughorn isn't commenting primarily on lily's appearance or her kindness but on her passions and spirit. it leads me to believe that slughorn did care about lily as a person.
slughorn also says lily is charming and cheeky. all of his descriptors point towards an attractive and friendly personality, but not one with a strong fondness for rules. she's cheeky to a teacher, and that is not the trait of a goody-two shoes, a stick in the mud, or a doormat of a housewife. lily has beliefs that she will be made known, even if it may go against the grain.
we saw in snape's worst memory that lily used insults to keep control of a situation and express discontent without showing too much emotion. she had a sharp tongue and a quick mind that she used in all situations. though she showed parts of herself and her beliefs that were not popular, she was keeping aspects of herself guarded. this is shrewd and indicates a keen understanding of social politics, and possibly unhealthy emotional repression.
furthermore, slughorn believes she could have been in slytherin. he could tell that she used social manipulation. i do not think lily put on a mask, but she was particular with what parts of herself she allowed people to see. this also leads me to believe lily did not play by the rules when it came to success, that she showed ambition and cunning. slughorn liked successful students—even in the horrible political climate he saw her going somewhere.
Tumblr media
in a highly emotional moment, slughorn says that lily is very brave and very funny. he can't imagine someone not liking her. people are better remembered in death, but slughorn is consistent in highlighting her humor. we also see a mention of her bravery. perhaps this is something he realized once she'd died. more likely he saw it in her during her school years.
the repeated traits we see from teenage lily in severus' memories and slughorn's recollection are being quick-witted, humorous, and brave/justice-seeking. she has a playful disposition and seems to have a secure sense of boundaries and decent emotional regulation for a teenager.
in her negative traits, we observe a propensity to use cruelty as a tool. however, we only see this in an intense moment. lily is not openly shown as someone with true bad traits, or as someone who changes over time, in the first six books.
james is given that complexity. snape's worst memory shows a pivotal moment for both men. this is the scene's point in the narrative: to offer complexity to these men. but is it a pivotal moment for lily? she is used to further both men's character development, but we see no change in her.
part 2 will discuss what we learn about lily in the 7th book.

maybe its just on twitter but snapedom is just so hostile to any controversial takes or conversation about snily as people/friends/lovers. like, i thought our whole thing was unpopular opinions and embracing them?? i can appreciate both severus and lily's characters and how crucial they were to each other while also believing they mightve been shitty friends. or liking them as just platonic. anything really.
the main thing about this community that still lets me actively participate in discourse is our ability to not have a hive mind (kinda like the marauders fandom). let people interpret things differently without taking it as an attack against your beliefs!!
that being said i do love snily a lot in all its shapes and forms, but i need to see more talk about them without it just being "soulmates and perfect for each other if it hadnt been for lames potter!?;/!"

Ya know what, if they can do it, I can, so fuck canon I'm making my own lil alterations because why the fuck not!
So headcanon that Andromeda and Narcissa Black were actually Severus's best friends in hogwarts. Andromeda was only there for one year with Severus. She was a seventh year in Slytherin, and a prefect and unlike Lucius who went about using his prefect privileges to essentially use the little boys as his lil servants (especially the poor ones, like Severus, in exchange for favour and gifts and praise- hence Sirius calling Severus Lucius's lapdog as Severus was naturally the most eager for these), Andromeda actually took care of people. She believed that there were people who were lucky and people who weren't, so it was the duty of those who were lucky to help those who weren't. She especially took care of Severus, seeing how the boy quite literally didn't have anything or anyone, and often scolded Sirius for being too harsh with him (Sirius would just laugh, never taking her seriously, and Andromeda did find it difficult to be stern with her little cousin). When she graduated, she asked Severus to take her old robes, saying that she'd never need them and she hated to waste such lovely material (her robes were made of the best material possible, and so they weren't just elegant with the very faint pattern all over them, but also very sturdy), and she said it like that because she didnt want to embarrass Severus either by implying that he was so poor she was giving him charity (compared to Lucius who gave Severus a trinket as a "gift" that Tobias stole, sold, and spent the money on alcohol). Severus wore them for the next 6 years and they're still wearable.
After she left, Narcissa took an interest in Severus. While she was much more classist, she wasn't unkind either. She did believe that wealth and blood purity made people better than others, however she didn't treat people poorly based on class, although she did expect the lower classes to serve in exchange for favours. Unlike Lucius, when she gave orders to younger, poorer students, she wasn't arrogant or unkind in them, and she did do well by them. Severus always knew he wasn't her equal the way he was with Andromeda (who treated him no differently than she treated Sirius, except perhaps with greater kindness), however Narcissa did treat him with kindness and even a sort of respect, better than Lucius did. Oh, as for Lucius...
The reason he married the youngest sister and not either of the older two is because Bellatrix scared him and Andromeda also scared him. He once dared ask her to dance with him and got a look that could freeze hell. So he settled for Narcissa. Who also almost rejected him, but (as she confided to Severus one day when he asked why was she marrying someone like Lucius) Lucius looked so miserable and defeated that she felt sorry for him. That and she hoped that by marrying into the Malfoys her parents may calm the rage they felt when Andromeda married Ted Tonks. But mostly she felt bad for him. (nobody wanted Lucius, for all his pure blood status, because the fact is Lucius was pretty damn useless at anything noble or gallant, and the pure blood women had a sense of self respect- if they're marrying into a traditional marriage and taking a traditional role, their husbands had better be the traditional knight of a man. Not whatever sad wet peacock Lucius was).
I have so much more on them but the rest needs to come in another post

i think my key issue with the sanitization of death eater characters is that it feels like people do not see their stories as tragic or empathize with the characters until we have a hc that's like "actually they were morally good the whole time!"
regulus black and severus snape are tragic characters and child soldiers no matter what side they were "really" on. even barty crouch jr, who may not have been groomed into being a death eater, is tragic when you spend a second to consider his relationship with his father. there are plenty of death eaters who we know are taking after their fathers in joining the cult. lucius malfoy, who was a prefect when the marauders enter hogwarts, most likely spread the death eater ideology, since the ideology is just a more extreme version/logical endpoint of what already existed in the wizarding world.
to me, these ideas are not headcanons, because they are heavily implied by the text. when jkr mentions malfoy in the deathly hallows that is not for no reason.
Tumblr media
mallfoy's acceptance of snape and position of power are both highlighted in this sentence. we can infer that snape felt a sense of community for the first time in Slytherin. with malfoy as a prefect we can infer that the culture of Slytherin house lifted up bigots and those with an important family name.
this is a culture that breeds more bigotry. we know that Dumbledore did not step in to stop this cultural development in the 90s, after already seeing what it could do!!! so we can infer that he did not in the 70s. so a bunch of children were left alone in an echo chamber of hate. of course some of them became fanatics!!!
this doesn't mean they shouldn't be held accountable. but we cannot expect children to overcome cultural and political hegemony all alone. like.... that's just not how the world works. and it's tragic that children are fodder for fascist's wars, especially when the fact that the children were abused or neglected makes them more vulnerable to be fodder.
regulus and severus weren't treated as people, their humanity was denied by the fascist they served, bc that's how fascism works. exploring their characters as they are in canon, with full humanity, without needing to change their stories to see that humanity, is much more interesting to me. it is much more in the spirit of redemption and restoration.

Hello, we are the authors of Desiderium Intimum. One of the most popular Snarry ffs, translated into several languages and read over 1.5M times in the original language. Our ff is a complex 70-chapter story about Harry, who drinks a potion called Desideria Intima, unleashing his deepest desire which is no other than the Potions Master himself. It's story about obsession and unhealthy toxic relationship between the dark cruel Death Eater and The Chosen One, who tries to break through his walls and reach his cold heart... A psychological erotic journey with a lot of angst and humor, which will conquer your heart for many evenings.
We've decided to finish the English translation by ourselves, because it's been abandoned after 33 chapters and never finished. Not only we want to finish it, but also correct the previous chapters.
