Okay, this is my second time typing this all out because Tumblr fucked me over so sorry if it’s not as in-depth as what I had before. Anyone can feel free to DM me questions if they have them :) But there’s actually a really cool theory behind why this happens!
There’s this thing called Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, which my therapists have been using with me for the past several months. Basically, in IFS, there are several different “parts” within you, each with their own goals and needs. A part can be an emotion, a physical sensation, a person, etc. that affects your decision making or feelings. There’s a heavy emphasis on the fact that no part of you is bad, but trying to protect you in its own way.
In IFS therapy, you try to connect with your parts to understand them and help them heal. Parts will have different ages, mature at different rates, and may be out of the loop entirely on how much has changed since a traumatizing event happened. Getting to know a part means asking how old it is, how old it thinks you are, how old you were when it first started doing its job, and what led it to start doing its job.
Yesterday I did a session where I connected with the “fandom” part of me. I learned that that part of me was 12. It started doing its job because I was feeling left-out of conversations with friends, who were all super into anime and stuff, and because my sister and I were interested in the same book series and started actually connecting for the first time. Back then this was a healthy “protector” (a classification of a part), just showing up to help out and recognizing when it wasn’t needed. It knew that I was fine without it in a lot of situations, so it would step back and let other protectors do their jobs.
However, this part believed I was 19 years old, despite me being 23. It started doing its job again when COVID happened because I was feeling lonely and isolated. Fandom had helped me connect with people and find comfort in the past, so of course it would show up. The problem is that this time I was going through a traumatizing experience without the support I needed, so that part believed it was still stuck in lockdown and has continued to act accordingly to make sure I don’t feel isolated or upset like I was during the height of COVID. Fandom has taken over my life because it’s such an effective coping mechanism for me and the part of me that is really into fandom stuff is still stuck in high-alert.

All this to say, it makes total sense that you react the way you do in these situations. Not only that, but there is a way to heal the thing trying to protect you and bring it into the present so that it sees that it doesn’t need to be so overzealous.

you headcanon that trapper didn’t write a note because he didn’t care . i headcanon that trapper didn’t write a note because he genuinely believed that hawk would be back in time . i believe that he paced the swamp and checked his watch every ten seconds and ran out of the door whenever he heard a jeep only to swear because not once did it turn out to be hawkeye . i believe that as his time of departure grew closer that trapper cursed his luck because of course hawkeye is always hanging around and being annoying when he doesn’t have to but the one time trapper needs him he’s nowhere to be found . i believe that radar practically had to force him into the jeep ( and that’s when trap gave him the kiss to give hawkeye ) and even as it was pulling away trapper watched intently for any jeep pulling in while he was pulling out . he doesn’t even think about leaving a note until he’s in the chopper and he kicks himself for it because how could he have not thought of leaving a lousy note ? we are not the same

This stuff!!!! Virginia Tech has this thing called the Drillfield - a huge ass field in the middle of campus. Like, we’re talking 22 acres (0.09 sq km). Taking the wrong path and actually staying on the pavement wastes like 5+ minutes, so people carved their own paths and VT finally paved them

And here is a picture I found on Reddit that shows all the buildings/destinations around the perimeter. The desire paths are much more worn in here (9-6, 12-5, 11-4, and 12-3)

This is what the Drillfield looks like now: they’ve paved over the pathways! And it’s so funny because there are still desire paths that crop up all over the Drillfield because it’s huge and no one has the time to stick to the paths lol. It’s such a cool way of visualizing human behavior

Another helpful trick I came up with in college:
Do you need to plan things to do with your breaks or you won’t do anything at all? Does that sometimes backfire because you end up piling on more stress when you don’t feel like doing it?

This is what my schedule used to look like. I’d plan my breaks between classes and my evenings, but if I didn’t do the reading at 9:30? It would fuck everything up for me for the rest of the day. I’d feel like I was behind because I’d “wasted” time I was “supposed” to be doing that reading
My solution? Give yourself choices!

Now instead of me sitting down and thinking “man I do NOT want to write right now” then just continuing to rot on my phone, I got to pick if I wanted to write or do some art. I’d already given myself the permission to use that time for something not necessarily required that I otherwise would feel awful about doing when there was more important work to be done.
You know how people tend to struggle a lot more with picking something to watch when given 30 choices versus just two? Do that to yourself. Take all the things that need to get done and make it an “A or B” decision. Instead of me sitting around and wondering ‘should I read, write my paper, work on my project, watch that film for class, study, or do my math homework?’ which inevitably led to me doing none of the above, I would ask myself ‘do you feel more like writing or doing math?’
It wouldn’t work all the time, sure, but man was it great at cutting through the overwhelming jumble in my brain. I can pick A or B a lot easier than I can come up with an answer out of the blue

Got venture bros charms on the mind,,,, ive done a couple of designs now but i dislike most of them now so im starting over again-
I do have finished sticker designs, I'd like to promo those and then put it em on the store but for the keychains i'd need to plan it out a lot nore
I plan on doing a little interest check! I'm a bit indecisive on which designs of venture bros to do because we kind of see the same designs in merch but maybe people like that? We'd do an interest check to see which designs would be preferred and then open a preorder! However we would only be able to do us shipping :( at least until we can fully figure out international shipping
