June 1923, London, England
It seemed as if Wilhelmina and Jackâs party had awoken some sort of hedonist spirit within him. Any previous attempts heâd tried to make with his duties as a peer were forgottenânot that it mattered anyway, most people in the House of Lords disliked him regardless. The Ritz became his home base, splitting his time between the hotel and the house of various friends, both old and new.Â
Within three months, he was sure that heâd nearly tripled the number of people heâd had sex with, which Giselle and Francesca had mercilessly teased him about, but it had many advantages, and it seemed like with every new person he shared a bed, he received two invitations to social events, whether it be parties, dinners, soirees, etc. Being around people with similar tastes and interests also allowed him to find suggestions and people read the work heâd done in person, not just via letters, and by the middle of June, he felt that his translation and commentary of The Epic of Gilgamesh was good enough to be sent to the publishers and editors.
Giselle, on the other hand, after months of slaving day and night in her sewing room as Francesca handled sales and customers, it seemed that their little boutique was taking off, and most women living in Central London were seen wearing some of her designs.Â
Shortly after opening one morning, a woman dressed finely walked into the shop, inquiring for a party dress. Francesca, who still setting up their latest model, looked surprised. No one came this early in the morning.
âGood morning, maâam, how can I help you?â
âUm, is Miss Walsh in?â
âOh, yes, sheâll be down in a moment or so.â She chuckled. âShe likes to sleep in.â
The other woman smirked as she looked around. âA friend of a friend recommended this place, and I can see why now. These are lovely.â
Francesca beamed with pride.Â
Giselle stepped out from her sewing studio, looking surprised that they already a had customer. âOh, good morning, I hope you werenât waiting long.â
âNo, of course not. Miss Walsh?â
âThat would be me.â
She sighed in relief. âOh, thank you. Iâm attending a party, and I was hoping to get a dress. I was told you do custom designs for customers.â
âYes, um we can head back for measurements now if you wish, MsâŠâ
âLady Lyton.â
Francescaâs eyes widened. The Countess of Lyton was their dress shop! Giselle looked less impressed, only giving Francesca a side glance. âOh, Iâm sorry, your ladyship, I wasnât aware.â She turned to her partner. âThereâs a countess in our dress shop.â
âWeâve had a duke.â
âYour brother doesnât count.â
The Countess raised a brow. âWalsh⊠Your brother is the Duke of Feldsbury?â
âYes. Have you met him?â
âI first met him at a party two months agoâwe are mutual friends with Mrs. Jack Porter. Heâs a bit of a Casanova, but he's handsome, very intelligent, and makes delightful conversation.â She smirked. âMy husband, on the other hand, finds him impertinent.âÂ
Francesca snickered.Â
âThat sounds like my brother. âŠHe was forced to accept the title and its responsibilities when not even being aware of it until after the war, so he cares very little of what society thinks of him and will likely do everything in his power to dredge the name of the late duke.â
The Countess nodded. âWell, I never liked the late duke.â
âWell, back to your request, your ladyship. When is the party?â Giselle asked, grabbing her notepad and pencil.
âFour days from now.â
Giselle frowned. âAnd you want a custom dress?â
âYes.â
âIâm sorry, but a custom design and pattern would at least take me two weeks, my lady.â
Lady Lyton sighed. âOh. I see.â
âWell,â Francesca interrupted, gesturing to the dress sheâd just set up, âI saw you admiring this, and Miss Walsh only finished it yesterday. There is no other dress like it, and tailoring at most only takes a few days if we do measurements now.â
Giselle nodded eagerly. âYes, and if you wish, I could add some extra embellishments if desired, and it could be ready to be picked up the morning of your party.â
The Countess looked impressed. âYou ladies know how to work a deal.â She glanced at the dress. âI will be telling everyone I know about the Duke of Feldburyâs sister and her delightfully modern dress shop.â
Giselle and Francesca couldnât help but beam.Â

Chefâs Kiss by TJ Alexander
A high-strung pastry chefâs professional goals are interrupted by an unexpected career transition and the introduction of her wildly attractive nonbinary kitchen manager in this deliciously fresh and witty queer rom-com.
Simone Larkspur is a perfectionist pastry expert with a dream job at The Discerning Chef, a venerable cookbook publisher in New York City. All she wants to do is create the perfect loaf of sourdough and develop recipes, but when The Discerning Chef decides to bring their brand into the 21st century by pivoting to video, Simone is thrust into the spotlight and finds herself failing at something for the first time in her life.
To make matters worse, Simone has to deal with Ray Lyton, the new test kitchen manager, whose obnoxious cheer and outgoing personality are like oil to Simoneâs water. When Ray accidentally becomes a viral YouTube sensation with a series of homebrewing videos, their eccentric editor in chief forces Simone to work alongside the chipper upstart or else risk her beloved job. But the more they work together, the more Simone realizes her heart may be softening like butter for Ray.
Things get even more complicated when Ray comes out at work as nonbinary to mixed reactionsâand Simone must choose between the career she fought so hard for and the person who just might take the cake (and her heart).

Mod opinion: Fascinatingly I hadnât heard of this book before (but I had heard of the sequel), but it does sound very cute.

âïžâïžâïžâïžâïž
Something fabulous, Alexis Hall
Summary:
Valentine Lyton, the Duke of Malvern, has twin problems: literally.
It was always his father's hope that Valentine would marry Miss Arabella Tarleton. But, unfortunately, too many novels at an impressionable age have caused her to grow up... romantic. So romantic that a marriage of convenience will not do and after Valentine's proposal she feels into the night determined never to set eyes on him again.
Aradella's twin brother, Mr. Bonaventure "Bonny" Tarleton, has also grown up... romantic. And fully expects Valentine to ride out after Arabella and prove to her that he's not the cold-hearted cad he seems to be.
Despite copious misgivings, Valentine finds himself on a pell-mell chase to Dover with Bonny by his side. Bonny is unreasonable, overdramatic, annoying, and... beautiful? And being with him makes Valentine question everything he thought he knew. About himself. About love. Even about which Tarleton he should be pursuing.
Review:
This book was an absolute delight.
I loved the fast and exciting pace of their chase for Arabella, and all the twist and turns the story took them on, the comedy in it made me laugh out loud most of the time, and the slow building romance was just chefs kiss.
I really enjoyed the slow development of Valentine, and how the pace of the story moved along with it, the love scenes, as well as the sex scenes were so tender and melted my heart. And of course, the angst and conflict in it was absolute beautiful.
I loved all the characters we got to meet and their journeys; it was an easy read and what little daily time I could dedicate to it I had an absolutely great time.

Early October 1923, London, England
After the Countess of Lytonâs visit, the shop had grown enormously in popularity to the point sheâd been able to hire others to deal with the influx of orders. Her name had seemingly grown overnight, and it was as if everyone knew who she was. It equally thrilled and terrified her, especially tonight. Tonight was her first fashion show. The place was crowded, filled with strangers, friends, and acquaintances. She watched intensely at the crowd, praying there wouldnât be a frown or gross remark. A part of her wished it was possible to read everyoneâs thoughts to see what they thought of her clothes. She looked around the audience, and to her disappointment, she did not see her mother.
When the hall was completely empty, her brother approached her and Francesca with a tall red-haired man who looked strangely familiar, though she couldnât place why. He grinned big and laughed.Â
âIâm very proud of you, Giselle. You sold most of your dresses tonight.â
The ginger nodded. âAye, yaâve grown far since the little fifteen-year-old girl when I first met ya.â
Giselleâs eyes widened. âMontgomery? My lord, itâs wonderful to see you.â She turned back to Byron. âWhen did you two get reacquainted?â
âTurns out we are mutual friends with the Porters. Jack and Montgomery were flatmates for a time.â
Francesca shook her head. âIt seems that the Porters know everyone. âŠWait, you said you were bringing a date for dinner.â
He shrugged. âI can bring friends for dinner.â
Giselle glanced at the two men. They had been friends before, but as far she knew, not that good of friends.Â
Byron coughed and looked around. âIâm surprised I didnât see Mama. Iâm shocked that she would miss this.â
âI donât know. Honestly, sheâs only written to me thrice and called once since last Christmas.â
âThat does not sound like her.â
Francesca looked down. âLetâs speak about it at dinner.â
âSorry, this is blunt, but yer lovers?â Montgomery asked after dinner.
Giselle turned to her brother, flabbergasted. âWhy would you say something?â
âI said nothing!â
Montgomeryâs eyes narrowed. âI got eyes, Giselle.â
Francesca covered her mouth to muffle her laugh. âAnd what would you know about that, MacGregor?â
Giselle watched as Byron and Montgomery briefly glanced at each other, and a realization hit her. âYou two are fucking? What the hell, Byron?â
Byron raised his hands. âIt started when we ran into each other at the Portersâ four months ago. Donât think that we donât know that itâs odd.â
Francesca frowned. âThank god your mother doesnât know about you.â
He frowned. âThatâs why sheâs not here, is she? She knows about you two.â
Giselle paled, watching her lover nod.Â
âShe cornered me during Christmas while I was washing dishes. Asked how long we had been lovers.â
â...Howâd she take it?â Her brother asked quietly.
âShe said sheâd tolerate it⊠as long as she never saw evidence of it. I think her reaction would have been worse if we were both men.â
Montgomery turned to Byron. âChrist.â
âMy own mother,â Giselle whimpered once they were alone in their bedroom. âI thought we were secretive. I thought we were discrete.â
âNot discrete enough,â Francesca muttered, holding her lover in her arms. âIf she wants to be in your life less, then thatâs on her. Weâve done nothing wrong. It shouldnât be a crime to love.â
âBut it is.â
âWrite to her, invite for Christmas. She asked me not to tell you that she was aware of our relationship. It would be better to pretend for now.â
âIs that all we can do?â
âI suppose.â
âI love you.â
Francesca smiled and stepped away before pushing Giselle onto the bed. âBut we have more important things to do, such as celebrating your success tonight.â
She couldnât help but laugh as they began to kiss.Â
