it's been 2 years since the last of these were posted, so I did some digging (on the plastics specifically, since I am currently working on a research project about industrial bio-based plastics).

firstly: the soft/plant elements are indeed now made of bio-based plastic (bio-PE to be specific) from sugar cane.* bio-PE is not biodegradable, though it's a common misconception that all bio-based plastics are biodegradable. (the reason I am saying bio-based is because depending on who you ask, bioplastic sometimes includes biodegradable plastics that are petro-based. this, of course, just makes the misconception more common). in fact, the reason that replacing their previous plastic with bio-PE worked so smoothly is because bio-PE is a drop-in polymer, meaning that it's the same chemical composition as an existing petro-based plastic (in this case, PE aka polyethylene), just from a renewable source. this makes manufacturing them much easier because they can use existing processes. about 2% of LEGO's total production is bio-PE.

secondly: it looks like the current prototypes for hard bricks are recycled PET from plastic water bottles. PET is not as strong as ABS, the current plastic that they're using, so they are apparently working on a process to strengthen it.

thirdly: it really isn't that easy. while drop-in polymers allow for bio-based materials to substitute in for many existing materials, a lack of robust recycling means that they'll still wind up in landfills. on the other hand, biodegradable plastics are typically only rated for industrial composting, which is hard to find, and many places won't actually take biodegradable plastics, leaving them to also go to landfills, where they'll anaerobically break down into methane, a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2. bio-based plastics unfortunately aren't a magic bullet. the best approach is one that combines a lot of approaches: increasing access to recycling, manufacturing more bio-based where possible, using renewable energy for manufacturing, and, notably, cutting down on how much plastic is made, used, and discarded in the first place. this is obviously a huge project, which requires sustained collective action and education rather than nice moves from corporations. though I do like the 100% renewable energy very much!

*the complexities of comparing and contrasting feedstock options is more than I feel like typing up lol

Happy Tender Tuesday! Which OC shows their love through big romantic gestures? Does it ever backfire on them?

Oh gods, have you met Sol? He does this with EVERYONE he loves. They all constantly get gifts of things he made for them, which, granted, are usually really useful inventions or "repairs" on things they own. (Even if they didn't *want* the thing repaired or made better because Sol's meaning of "better" doesn't always align with everyone else's. Sol's getting better at asking first.) It just makes him so happy to be able to help the people he loves.

But I don’t have much to go with for him with specifically romantic. It's not like he ever had the chance to do big gestures for Pierre-- even he wasn't dumb or naive enough to risk this in Montglace-- and he hasn't seriously dated anyone since. I'm pretty sure Dray gets slightly more of Sol's Invention Affection than the other three dorks, but that's also because Dray is an instigator who loves causing problems and absolutely encourages Sol to make them things that could be used for mischief lol

And also, you've met Sol. You know there's gonna be literal backfires here when something doesn't work out the way he planned. ;) Also the whole "fixing things no one actually wanted fixed in the first place" thing, but he's mostly learned not to do that.

Ya know, thinking about it, none of my other dorks are likely to do big romantic gestures. They're more about little sweet things, small domestic things.

(Skia is standing there a few years in the future looking quite sheepish about that statement, though, so I think I have to keep an eye on him. I can only imagine what flashy, dramatic, ridiculous things he’s going to do.)

Gosh I love so many of AURORA’s songs. They just carry such a nice, soft but wistful tone, you know? This one is on Dione’s playlist, with that look back to her childhood and her missing those times of carefree, innocent child-like wonder.

THE END — i’ll make up an ending, or post the ending if i’ve written it

There’d been a lot of blood and panic, he’d been unconscious for most of it. When he came to again, he was weak and dizzy, the world unfocused and something pounding in his ears. Then a cry cut through all that, a baby’s crying for their mother. 

His hand moved and he blinked the last of the blurred images from his eyes as he looked around. Where was it coming from? Finally he laid his eyes on Leviathan beside him, holding a bundle and tears falling. 

When Lucifer’s mouth opened, nothing came out. He moved his hand, or he tried. He wanted to see him…

Finally, in the attempts, Leviathan moved so Lucifer could see his child’s face. Skin a gray like his father’s, with pink stripes over his cheeks and on his folded fin atop his head. Lucifer wept. 

He knew what was coming. They’d been scared of this, he’d been warned he wasn’t strong enough, he’d felt it slowly make itself more known as time went by. 

He wouldn’t see his child grow, wouldn’t be able to know what sort of person he’d be. But he had accepted that, even as he’d lost his mind and then his strength. He’d lived his life, he’d give it for his son. 

“Darius…” he said, voice weak and cracking. He’d wanted him so badly, he’d have gladly done this all over again. 

Leviathan gently took his hand so he could touch the child’s cheek. How he loved him, more than anything. And he was the happiest he’d ever been, even as his heart slowed. His last breath was a wish that he’d grow up happy and excited about life. 

When Leviathan looked at him again, his heart broke. His blue eyes were glassy now in his gaunt face as he went unmoving, no rise and fall to his chest. With a world weary sigh, he kissed his love’s cheek and gently closed his eyes, allowing others to take care of his body. 

Tiny Darius was in his arms, cooing and grabbing his father’s chest. Unaware that his mother was gone.

Okay, so this is a new one, meaning that I didn’t previously associate it with anything I already have. Now I think it might fit into my quiet crime drama, but mostly for the aesthetic I guess.

When this song was first released it made me think about my own life. I don’t feel as associated with it anymore unless I’m in a depressive slump, but even then things have gotten better/shifted so I no longer wallow in the self pity of it lol

WIP Progress Sunday: Favorite line this week? Is it your favorite because it's ot essential or because it flows well?

OOOH you got in before I even made my progress post! :D My favorite line is probably: 

Whatever [Angie’s] perfume is, it’s gentle and citrusy and light and it makes you feel like things might be okay someday.

Angie is, of course, her own person, who has a job and a life and hopes for her future, but she also tends to take on the mom/big sister roles for many people in her life. She had a rough time as a teen and her sisters and Ronan and his family are who got her through it, so family (including found family!) plays a very important role in her life.

While Jen doesn’t know anything about her past, she doesn’t know much about his, either, but they take each other as they are now, and Angie is doing her best to help, and Jen is doing his best to accept it. I like everything this line implies, and like. I love how it portrays that person everyone has (or deserves to have) who can make them feel like everything will eventually come together. :)

hello!! thanks for the ask! i’m going to answer this for.... hmm let’s see. Jia, perhaps?3) a trait they express in the wrong wayJia is extremely driven. i mean, extremely, extremely motivated and passionate and driven, and she’ll go to extreme lengths to get to what she wants, so that means she can get a narrow-minded at times. sometimes this could mean that she might get a little obsessive, and in trying to get to what she wants, she might forget about the people around her / their well-being. it’s like, of course determination and grit are great values, but too much of anything can make it bad, and so there lies her problem: she’s hurt some people she cares about a lot in the past because of her single-minded focus and determination to get what she wants, and a lot of the times she likes to ignore it / deny this because, yknow, isn’t determination a good thing? she can be really calm and level-headed and easygoing, but once she sets her eyes on that something, she really goes all out. she also doesn’t like thinking that she has hurt anyone because she has a little bit of an ego as well, so that’s one of her biggest issues.10) a way that they are improving on any of the above!she couldn’t, in the nick of time. but it’s something she has to grapple with once she has passed away, in order to move on. she’s a lot milder and calmer now in my main novel (i mean... there’s not much to strive towards in death...) but i think she eventually realises that she has to take other people into consideration, and that sometimes she’s hurting people in the process and she needs to understand and accept that too much is too much and she has to improve on this.honestly for jia, i just really wanted to use a trait that is typically considered as something good, like there’s no downside to it, and turn it on its head to make it a negative trait. i haven’t really managed to manifest this properly in the main novel yet, but i’ll edit it soon enough once i’ve gotten a better hang of her personality in the companion novel.thank you for this ask!!

my writing space varies WILDLY from day to day. my desk is usually decently organized with a fine dusting of clutter, though. it tends to uh... retain objects from various parts of life. like, the putty i use for my wrist therapy is just Sitting there

Happy STS! Addy goes to a pie shop and can pick any pie he wants, but only one. He may not get a sampler pack of many different flavors, and the other dorks cannot each buy him a pie. What's the ONE flavor he chooses?

Awwww man, you went through his loopholes! Why must you know him so well? ;) I don’t actually have a good answer for this one because Addy’s a basic bitch and loves blueberry pie best of all of them. So he’d get that, and the others would be entirely disappointed in him for not getting something fancier. I can just see them shaking their heads. He’s let them down lol

So I've been dead for a year and a half, but at least I got bingo! 👍I always knew Unexpected Inspiration was a ton like Villainy! I'm pretty sure I get a prison break at some point. Which crime Dray got caught doing is the question. (Arson? Forgery? Embezzlement? Identify theft? How bored were they that day?)

Seriously, though, I haven't forgotten about Tumblr and I've still been working with my dorks in my long hiatus. @lynnafred and @elliot-orion are tag teaming to drag me back here, so I'll start posting and interacting again soon. I'll make another post then with an actual update and not a bingo card. (I mean, most likely. Maybe it will be a bingo card because now I kinda want to make one lol) Feel free to start/keep tagging me in posts about your writing or tag games again - - I'll most likely see it.

WIP progress Sunday: Do you have any goals for the week that you're hoping to reach?

Yes! It’s... kind of a nebulous goal, because I don’t have a word count, but I’m hoping to be ready to start the next chapter next week! A LOT has already happened in the one I’m working on, but it’s crammed into like three pages, and since I’m going to post it serially online I’m trying to make them a little longer. 

I have an idea, but... it’s really horrible... and I don’t know if I should do it because Jen has suffered so much already...

I’m probably going to write it out and run it past @ohsugarfoot, and go from there! So yeah, let’s amend my goal: write out that plot point as a scene and see if it makes the story better or not! :D
