Researchers at the University of South Denmark and the University of Helsinki have found tattoo ink may increase the risk of skin and lymphoma cancers. The research team says this is because tattoo ink accumulates in the lymph nodes and does not just remain where it is injected. Lymph nodes are small structures which help to protect the body against potentially harmful substances. The university researchers are concerned that tattoo ink may trigger an inflammation in the lymph nodes, which could lead to abnormal cell growth and an increased risk of cancer over time.

A has been acting a little strange all day, but their partner B assumes it’s just exhaustion from a long week. the pair decide to have a chill day at home watching movies and cuddling on the couch. B doesn’t realize anything is wrong until they go in for a gentle kiss, placing a hand on A’s neck and unintentionally feeling their incredibly swollen lymph nodes. it’s no wonder A has been so out of it; they are definitely coming down with something.

Doctor Who report!! We made it to the 12th doctor!! Just finished watching the specials up to 11th regeneration AHHH I'm so excited to meet him!! Looking back on all of 11th run we really enjoyed it, it started weak but it got better and we ended up loving Matt and his companions. We went into it scared that we wouldn't enjoy it because of what we had heard about it on top of the writing style not clicking for us at times but that wasn't the case! it had many good episodes and concepts explored! Ten is still our absolute favourite but Eleven was great!! I'm very hopeful for Capaldi, I also really love his face 😌

I'm finally giving the horrid little fanfic I posted last week a proper post for Lymph Node Monday.
Rakitin visits Mitya in jail. One thing leads to another and he ends up doing an amateurish lymph node exam on him. Will Rakitin find the lymph nodes?

idk who needs to hear this but I keep seeing people comment that someone is trans/looks trans 💀 because they have an Adam's apple. So in the spirit of education, this is a PSA:
The Adam’s apple, technically called the laryngeal prominence, is a protrusion of cartilage in the throat that surrounds and protects the larynx (or voice box). Its primary function is to protect the vocal cords, which are essential for speaking and breathing. The prominence of the Adam's apple also affects voice depth and pitch to some extent.
Both men and women have an Adam’s apple, but it is typically more prominent in men due to the effects of testosterone during puberty. This hormone stimulates the growth and thickening of the larynx, resulting in a deeper voice and a larger, more visible Adam's apple in men. In women, the growth is generally less pronounced, making the laryngeal prominence smaller or less noticeable.
Other conditions or anatomical features in the neck area can resemble an Adam’s apple. For example:
Swollen Thyroid Gland (Goiter): The thyroid gland, located just below the Adam's apple, can enlarge and resemble or even obscure the laryngeal prominence if it becomes swollen or develops nodules.
Lymph Node Swelling: Enlarged lymph nodes due to infections or other conditions can also cause noticeable lumps in the neck that may appear near the Adam’s apple area.
Cysts or Growths: Thyroglossal duct cysts, benign growths, or other anatomical anomalies can present as lumps near the laryngeal prominence.
TLDR; Comments like the above reflect a common misconception that the Adam's apple is exclusive to men or that it's a definitive marker of someone's sex/gender. The truth is that everyone has an Adam’s apple; it’s just often more prominent in men due to how testosterone affects the larynx during puberty. For some women, especially those with a naturally larger or thicker larynx, it can also be visible, and some men have less prominent Adam’s apples as well. Unfortunately, this idea that a visible Adam’s apple signals something about gender identity is rooted in oversimplified, outdated stereotypes. It’s best to remember that bodies naturally vary, and visible anatomical features don't define someone's gender identity or journey.

The newly developed lymph node—a sac filled with immune system components—is implanted under the skin. It is designed to act like a learning hub and stimulator to teach immune system T cells to recognize and kill cancer cells. Lymph nodes—tiny glands throughout the body, mainly in the neck, armpits, and groin—are part of the immune systems of mammals, including mice and people. They number in the hundreds so that immune cells in one area of the body don’t have to travel far to alert the immune system to impending danger. “They are a landing spot where T cells, the immune system’s fighting cells, lay dormant, waiting to be activated to fight infections or other abnormal cells,” says Natalie Livingston, currently a postdoctoral researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital and first author of the study published in the journal Advanced Materials.
