Rescue pt.2

Part one

Warm, soft light emanated from the crystals interred within the stones, and, as they walked further into the caverns, its glow grew colourful, shades, luminosity gained as if made on purpose, as if done with someone in mind, an outsider, of course, beasts need not the aid of light to move through their homes.

It was thoughtful, Other Hero thought, before procuring the rest of the way to be clean of such thoughts.

The entrances had little privacy to them, then again, in a place of rocks, crystals and stones, commodities wood brought, as doors were rare, rather opting for curtains, wool certainly stole from the merchants who dared pass too close to their caves.

Long was the way before the monster stopped. Opening with one arm the green bed sheets hanging by the rock on the edge, a wide, luminous room presented themselves behind it.

Something resembled a bed right in the middle of the room, nest-like with furs and cushions inside a hole made in the ground, around it decorations seemed carefully planned, a mirror and a table, clothes hung at one of the edges of the room, books piled up against two walls, and, with a panfñute between their hands…

“Hero!” Other Hero shouted, leaping forward to embrace the other the moment they crossed the threshold, arms tight and heart pounding.

They were so relieved.

Hero hugged them back, pressing their cheek in the other’s chest and breathing in.

“Hero, I’m so sorry, I didn’t know where you were,” Other Hero was quickly to apologise, tongue fast as they spoke, little effort to breathe “no one told me anything when I returned, I came as soon as I blackmailed it out of Teammate, I swear, I’m so sorry.”

The hug was tightened by the other, a reassurance, a promise of forgiveness both thought.

Other Hero could almost forget, in the comfort they found in the other’s presence, how the golden eyes of the monster were set right over both.

“I’m very happy you came for me, Other Hero,” Hero answered, finally pulling away from the hug “I’m sure you must be tired.”

They could not deny it, and still, whatever offer could come along with such observation, Other Hero felt hesitant to accept.

But Hero placed their hand in their face, soft and understanding, ignoring the sweat and the grime covering them, wiping away the dust in their cheek, and Other Hero melted.

“Allow us to host you for the night,” they said “allow me to repay your kindness.”

And without second complaint, Other Hero was lowered under the furs by the gentle hands of Hero, under the watchful eye of The King.

The moment to flee would come, they assured themselves, Hero was smart, they were resourceful, they planned ahead. Other Hero would play along if Hero thought that was the path to escaping.

Hero served the soup from the pot into three wooden bowls, one bigger than the other two, and set them on a silver tray.

“I do want to keep them,” they said, eyes fixed on the fire.

The monster, the King, Villain, hugged them from behind as they both watched the put bubble.

“They will not like that.”

“I know,” Hero answered, easily, “but you’ll help me, won’t you? Ease them, help them adapt.”

“I will if such you ask, my light.”

Villain nuzzled into Hero’s neck.

Fed and bathed Other Hero felt dazed in the softness of the nest, only half noticing the other figure slipping in beside them.

Soft hands pulled them close.

“Hero,” they called, almost nothing more than a breath.

“Yes, love?”

“I’ll get us out of here,” Other Hero said, promised “I’ll take you away and we can…”

Their thoughts slipped, came and went as the crackling fire and the humming Hero lulled them to sleep.

A kiss was placed on their forehead, and from the door, Villain smiled at both.

that teeth ask reminded me of a hc i’ve been thinking of lately, which is that neil’s eyesight is shit. it wasnt like mary could take him into an optometrist and get his glasses scrip updated regularly, and besides he can see well enough to drive in a straight line and watch the lights changing so who cares, he’s functional. and he doesn’t care bc he doesn’t need long distance vision while he’s playing exy, not really. but between natural eyesight decay and bad contact usage, oh boy is his eyesight on a swift decline. andrew has to wrangle him into getting glasses and then ends up chucking the glasses at his face when he ends up squinting rather than wearing them. thoughts? (also damn stupid cute neil with his stupid cute glasses)

ANDJDJDJDJJD YES I HAD THIS THOUGHT EARLIER AS WELL

andrew would drag him to the mall to get him glasses and would make neil stand there while andrew (the personal stylist) picks out a bunch of frames, one at a time, and puts them on neil’s face. each one, he puts them on, sits back and thinks with his arms crossed over his chest, studying neil like a bug under a magnifying glass, then shaking his head and removing them. he never puts them back in the right spots and neil kinda tries to correct them. eventually, they’ve been there a long time and neil is getting antsy and cranky because he’s overstimulated so andrew goes back to some thick black frames that honestly scream 2015 tumblr bitch but somehow neil pulls them off??? very well??? andrew says “this’ll do” and they buy them. neil takes them off as soon as they’re out of the store, but andrew makes him put them back on. neil grumbles and does, but takes them off not much later. andrew doesn’t say anything that time, but decides he’ll get his revenge.

but as much as he tries, neil can’t wear the glasses. they touch the bridge of his nose in the wrong place and it gives him a terrible headache, like his eyes have been crossed for hours. he can’t wear them for more than a few minutes at a time and even then he’s queasy. he finally admits this to andrew (after being pinned down and vaguely but endearingly threatened) so andrew does some research, goes back to the mall himself, and returns with the same exact glasses but with a different bridge--they sit higher on neil’s nose, so they don’t touch that Bad Spot anymore. Neil can stand them now, and actually enjoys fiddling with them while he’s doing homework. he also realizes that his vision was indeed very poor and he appreciates how sharp everything is now; he feels safer. and, too, he can study andrew’s face like he did back towards the beginning; he can catch every shadow, every eyelash, every freckle perfectly.

he also very much likes to tease andrew about how andrew must love the glasses for how mcuh he urges neil to wear them. andrew insists he’s only trying to make looking after neil a little less exhausting--having to see properly for two people wears a person out. but one time, nicky makes some comment about how the glasses make neil look like “the sweet little nerdy gay boy that gets pushed into the lockers by his jock lover” whatever the hell that means but even if he understands very little about that statement he still uses it to tease andrew.

also: “drew, have you seen my glasses?” somehow becomes a weird form of flirting. it’s like neil’s bat signal for andrew to come pay attention to him and neil thinks it’s hilarious

you did this really cool orv piece where there was a lit cigarette and i was wondering how you did the smoke effect?

using purple just for fun here obviously its light gray in the real thing. i blocked in the main kind of shape of it that i wanted with this brush

then i added some strokes with this brush to soften it up and make it look like the smoke was diffusing.

this looks kind of lame honestly because im not thinking too mcuh about where im placing these strokes so keep in mind that to get the actual shape of smoke and the way it curls right you should look at references. it helps a ton. smoke is one of those things we see enough to know subconsciously when it is drawn wrong but cant really conjure an accurate image of in our heads

add a little bit of a blur to it to get the roughness of the lines smoothed out. however much youre feeling

i put it on a ‘screen’ blend mode which i think works well for smoke over all but lots of blend modes can work. play around with blend mode and opacity until you find what fits your scene

I hope these two came together, they seemed to be. these "fans" treating harry and louis like their are characters in a fanfiction (really badly written one) makes me want to slap them. I too get "triggered" by it sometimesI just want to cry from rage/frustration to see the shit they say (I don't bc I am mcuh more removed from this situation than I used to be but still I have a strong need of physical violence when I fall onto their tweets).

Top Games Played 2021

Hello, hello, hello. It is that time of the year again folks. (Yes, I know I’m late this year) Let’s get into it!

10 - Monster Hunter World

Now I’m giving Monster Hunter World the first mention at Number 10. I’m not saying it’s a bad game, because I have heard a lot of good things about it - I just think I’m at the beginning of the game where you need to keep going for it to get good. I spent about 2 hours just customising my character and pet, the level of detail to customation is awesome! The fighting mechanics are a big clunky but hopefully if I go back to it I will enjoy it more.

9 - Hidden Through Time

Yes, I am well aware I have a gif from Runescape, but this is such a small indie game - you try and find a gif for it! It’s basically a Where’s Wally game, but with no Wally and more items to find. My bestie and her dad also love it. Fun for all the fam, honestly give it a try.

8- Blair Witch  

So the first horror on the list, I know y’all were waiting. Blair Witch, has a lots of similarities and references to the film but is a whole other experience. Best part is you have a dog that you can customise, pet and give treats to. The graphics are hella amazing too! However, I did stop playing this game as I loved that dog like it was child and (SPOILER ALERT) I’m pretty sure it died, and I refuse to accept it.

7 - Harvey’s New Eyes

Right listen, the gif ain’t from the game but it does give off the vibe from the game (another indie game if you were wondering.) So definitley would recommend this game if you have a pretty dark sense of humour, please don’t play in front of your parents, you will be in therapy the next day. It actually made me laugh so loud and the pun game is unbeatable. 

6- Genshin Impact

I haven’t played this game as much as last year sadly, but you know I’m here for the free stuff you get logging on. I got more Childe content this year so I’m more than happy, that sexy bastard. I like how they’ve expanded the map, though I’m not high enough level to get there yet, so sad. The Summer quests were so cute though.

5 - Don’t Knock Twice

Another horror for the list, I know you were waiting. Don’t Knock Twice is a fantastic short horror game! It absolutely shit me up the first time, I literally had to pause the game and wait for my friend to join for support. The tears in my eyes were real lemme tell you. Also graphics 10/10, honestly the atmophere created just went so well with the jump scares, the waiting for something to happen was terrifying. 

4 - Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Aaaaaah Lara, my queen, my wife, the woman who made me realise I’m a little gay. I’ve always preferred the classic Lara to the new games, HOWEVER, I absolutely love the Shadow of the Tomb Raider! Nothing felt forced or like a filler, the plot is so much better and the characters more interesting. Easily the best out of the newer triology! 

3- Fallout 4

This was a surprising game that made a comeback to me this year, now I’m playing it every available moment. I played them a long time back, F4 is easily better than Fallout 3. My bestie enjoyed watching me play it so mcuh that she’s starting to replay it too. That lady that sings in that underground bar has my heart. I will romance everyone, except McCready he can die in a hole.

2- Fortnite

Fortnite easy had to be 2nd place, was very close to coming in first! My bestie and I played this game so much this past year. We have gotten top places in almost every battle babe, so if anyone wants an earlier death I got you boo.

1 - Final Fantasy 7 Remake

I WAS ABSOLUTELY STUNNED WHEN THIS WAS OFFERED AS A FREE GAME ON PS+!!!! I downloaded it straight away! Although I procrastinated for ages before I actually played it because I was so worried it wouldn’t be as good as the original. Oh how wrong I was... It is EVEN BETTER! The graphics, utterly beautiful. The characters are more easy to become invested in. Our sexy daddy villain Seph. There was a point a character started humming the original FF7 music and I almost started crying. I also much more prefer this combat system to the original. It’s so fucking good

if we go with capcoms interest on RE characters the most prominent choice would be Leon S. Kennedy, probably re4 model with saddler as the opposite killer in that pack.. I LOVE re4 it was the first RE game I played myself just shortly after it came out but that game gets way too much attention LMAO

though Id love to  just get a double pack of chris redfield and jill valentine as survivors in DBD.. itd be GOOD. but I would also enjoy seeing charcetrs in DBD that didnt get as mcuh attention like the outbreak cast

speaking of the outbreak cast, I know for a fact that jake would probably be apart of that outbreak group and would survive raccoon city. honestly I associate him with the wild things level in outbreak but also flashback- not only bc those are my favourite stages but a mix out of these two would be perfect as a stage capturing jakes story. he would survive it but not on terms like the regular RE stories

A Subpar Guide To Unine

I was inspired by this video, their new album coming out on May 6, 2020, and also yanjuniverse saying something about not knowing them and wondering if there was a guide or something so yeah!

anyway please enjoy my nonsense it’s fun and there are a lot of songs and performances that I recommend looking at!

Unine is the second nine member group to be created by Idol Producer/Youth With You/QCYN/whatever you want to call the competition show.  The group is made up of Li Wenhan, Li Zhenning, Yao Mingming, Guanyue or Guan Yue, Jiayi, Hu Chunyang, Xia Hanyu, Chen Youwei, and He Changxi.

The official fandom name is Nano.  Unine debuted with their EP 《UNLOCK》 on May 6, 2019.  Their album 《U-Night Flight》 will be coming out on their one year anniversary May 6, 2020.

As someone commented on YouTube under one of their videos, I can’t remember which one please don’t ask, they are a more vocal line leaning group whereas Nine Percent was more rap line leaning.  I think it’s neat to see the contrast between what people want to see in any given year and how different their music styles are.

He used to be one of those people who was like “this person is actually quite good; nothing’s wrong with him, but I can’t remember him” and like he considered himself like that and him debuting at the no. 2 spot was really well deserved and i am so proud

This is also the performance where he rapped and he spent so much time practicing for it and it was successful and I am just really proud of him bc he leans more as a vocal and was really struggling and wanted to make sure he did it right and i’m jsut really proud i love himso mcuh

His dancing in this stage was unmatched by anyone else there (and this sounds biased because i am)

Li Zhenning vs Li Shenshen

on stage mans is focused and completely undaunted and carries sexier concepts well

off stage mans is baby boy. baby.  he’s goofy and adorable and i love hiim so much

compares himself to a koala because “especially [his] nose shape is similar…and [his] eyes look blurred…[and he’s] sleepy all the time”

we stan a short king (he’s 5′9 which yeah, is taller than me, but still)

He dances so well and just owns any stage he is on

Rebuild is one of my favorite stages hes done and coincidentally has 5/9 members of Unine in it, though they didn’t know at the time of course

He was incredible during this stage like ugh i didn’t have a bias bc he was there, Mingming was there, Changxi was there, i had no way of surviving

Because of this, he was very closed off at first with the other trainees and eventually had to have a talk with Zhang Yixing PD

The gist of the conversation was that Mingming was sort of…doubting, I guess you could say, his talents and Yixing told him to treat the show as if he were a new trainee

This led to Mingming becoming more open with the other trainees and more confident in his talents and skills and it really showed and I was really happy he was able to debut bc he deffo deserved it

Mingming’s gray and floral suit in the Rebuild stage is something i think about on a weekly basis at least it’s a really good look for him guys

also just the confidence and cockiness he has during this stage i love to see it

He also has an opportunity to really show off his dancing skills and i loved it for him

He can do imitations really well and likes to imitate Hanyu a lot

think Yesungie and Eunhyuk except accurate

He has very feline features

this has nothing to do with anything he’s just really really pretty

The Wind focuses on bright and upbeat music and was the first to debut in 2017

Currently there are only six members of 12C

He knows sign language as both of his parents are deaf and when the trainees are allowed to call home, we see him talking with his mother

He has a lot of love and respect for his mother and it shows

His goal in life is to make enough money to support his family so they don’t have to work

I love Guan Yue’s “Turn Up” stage like the cockyness and confidence he has is fantastic i love to see it

his costume is also pretty good esp considering what the trainees sometimes have to wear

also Shenshen and Mingming are in it as well

His performance in Ugly Beauty was incredible also

I loved his Neighboring Tarzan performance bc he was able to include his dialect in his rap part and I love when trainees are able to bring more of themselves into a performance

I want him and Chen Linong to collab bc he was essentially idp2′s Nongnong with the infectious smile and incredible stage presence

《SET IT OFF》 – This is a live performance at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.  I have a bone or two to pick with the sound editor of the video  but they deliver a fantastic performance.  I like their choreo a lot and it’s more clearly able to be seen on the live stage.

《BOMBA》 – official MV.  Their first single I believe.  Very colorful and fun, the song matches the vibe of the MV.  Mingming’s iconic holding a geometric hanging light like a pear is from this MV.  Hanyu also spends half the MV wrecking my bias.  If I had more braincells I would do an analysis of the MV but alas.

my grandma talked about ronak sometimes, so did my mom. When I was younger, they’d say, “There’s so much ronak from you laughing and talking” and i didn’t understand it deeply; only that it’s good for me to laugh and talk and smile unashamed because it made other’s happy. Magic Leap One’s first big game is Angry Birds, here’s what it’s like to play it

Magic Leap promised us a world of dreams, we’re getting Angry Birds.

After about a month in the public spotlight, the Magic Leap One is starting to get its first titles. Rovio and Resolution Games announced publicly today that they will be releasing Angry Birds FPS: First Person Slingshot this fall for the Magic Leap One.

It’s an actual game, not just a little tech demo. I had a chance to play with the soon-to-be-released title and it’s actually pretty refreshing and fun making the futuristic hardware feel a little less alien.

It wasn’t my first bout with Magic Leap’s new hardware, but it was the first time that I truly appreciated what improvements it boasts over hardware like Microsoft’s HoloLens.

You could probably beat the 20 levels of Angry Birds FPS in around an hour, but I started fumbling and having to seriously strategize after just a few of them, though like many others I can honestly say I haven’t played an Angry Birds title since I had an iPhone 3GS so it’s been a minute.

That said, the mechanics are pretty familiar in that you’re trying to knock over a little tower of blocks and the green pigs that inhabit their far reaches. What’s unique is that the tower is now stacked on your coffee table that you can approach from any angle and the Magic Leap controller is your slingshot that you can aim a lot more precisely as a result.

The Resolution Games team said that they had been experimenting with Microsoft’s headset but it was Magic Leap’s positionally tracked controller that really opened up the headset to something like a full gaming title, currently the HoloLens only takes basic hand gesture controls.

It’s kind of funny that Apple’s main ARKit 2 demo and Magic Leap’s first full title are slingshot games, but I guess you find what works and move from there.

The title isn’t ground-breaking by any means in terms of enabling some sort of futuristic use case, but what felt most unique was how familiar it felt. Part of that is obviously the IP with Angry Birds but it’s also a game that doesn’t ask you to freestyle too mcuh and doesn’t give you a world of options. It felt like a mobile game, if only one that allowed you to visualize the mobile content overlaid on the world in front of you.

Magic Leap may not be the headset everyone wanted it to be — or what the company told us it would be — but judging by the first big title coming to it, it seems like it gets enough right that developers are going to have a fun time with it even if it is just a labor of love for them right now.

ok first of all, i’d like to thank you like a million times for sending this to me. i wasnt on tumblr whole day but i opened it a few times on my phone during the day. i had been seeing this ask sent to my mutuals and was wishing someone sent it to me too. and i wrote it under a read more which i thought no one would pay attention and i didnt even mention it was THIS ask and then YOU SENT IT! *showers you with hearts and chocolate cupcakes* i hope i can write it well enough becuz my english isnt that good and im also not good with expressing myself.

“Bias” thing is a complex term for me. i guess its becuz im pretty older than all those boys, i cant just pick one and call them “bias”. and i usually cant have 2 biases at once. i “joined” the kpop community in the beginning of ‘12 and over these 5 years, i called 3 idols as my bias. first was TOP, then came Yongguk and for a few months i biased both of them but eventually Yongguk claimed his place as my one and only and stayed like that for a very long time. then when Howon came, just like the previous time, both of them stayed for a few months but then Howon won over Yongguk. I wanted point that out to show that for an idol to “won” the title of being my bias (lmao) they must’ve be REALLY good! (and i take this sh*t way too more seriously than i should otl)

already 3rd paragraph and i havent even started answering your Qs omg! okay so like i said i was a hardcore YG stan. honestly, HW got me by his looks at first. not only becuz he was good looking but becuz he had this “manly” image you know? im more into that type. when i first saw him was during H’s Special Girl era and i was someone who hasnt listened to even 1 infinite song (shame on me!) i was seeing YaDong gifs all over my dash but everyone was going crazy over Dongwoo (i dont blame them :D) but i was thinking “why is there no love for Hoya? he is -imo- more good looking”. but i didnt pay too much attention to it. later i started watching Reply’97 due to a friend’s rec and HW’s good looks, combined with his amazing acting skills and the character he played, caused him to sneakily and slowly get into my heart and brain. he is the reason i started following Infinite and simply there wasnt anyone else to steal his place among OT7. and later, both by some stuff that YG was doing to cause me grow away from him and the stuff that HW was doing to win me over, the game came to an end. so it wasnt like “omg he looked so good in X era” or sth but i had already found too many things that i loved about him as time passed by and un-stanning YG just made everything official. i think its been around 2 years since he became my only bias.

My fave look(s) [sorry for cheating:)]; im normally a trash for up-styled hair so his Pretty era look was perfection. but, tho i wasnt a fan back then, im in love with his Be Mine era look and im praying for the day i can see him with a short hair like that (SY has it now and IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!) Plus, i love his fluffy light brown hair during Back era (that is a sad era for us Howon stans but for some reasons i love it too much as well) And lastly, i just cant ignore his cotton candy hair colors during Last Romeo era hehe^^;;

Like i said his good looks was the reason he got my attention so i’ll start with it. i mean his eyebrows could slice my heart into pieces and his cute eyes make me go blind and his JAWLINE IS SHARPER THAN THE SHARPEST BLADE and i really love his lips (i dont like too big/plumpy lips) and his lips are just perfect for me and the way they shape when he cant contain his laugh like his lips get so wide you can see his gums its the most beautiful smile ever but HIS NOSEEEEE!!!! DUDE HIS NOSE!!!! ITS THE CUTEST NOSE I HAVE EVER SEEN AND I JUST WANNA PUT LITTLE PECKS ON HIS CUTE LITTLE NOSE ITS SO AŞDENEĞANAPROLUX!!!!

Another thing is how he is rather reserved. i mean he is surely much more open now, esp since Back era but still he likes being on his own, getting lost in things that he loves like dancing, making music or stuff like that and im like him too so idk its like a connection you know? 

He is strong. not only physically but also mentally. he has a strong determination. he has been thru too much to be at where he is now. starting from his family (here is a ref for those who dont know how hard it was for him) i think thats very brave of him to risk so much for an unclear future.

I LIVE FOR HIS LAME JOKES!!!! and i dont think they are lame (ok some of them are :D) but i think its a proven fact that was accepted by everyone that he is witty. and i love my man smart :D lol he even praised his fans for being witty in his last vlive saying sth like “fans are like their idols. im witty and you’re witty too” or sth like that lol he is adorable!!!!

Which leads me to another thing i love about him; his love and respect for fans! about 2 years ago he was given a letter by a fan (i think its better if y’all check it here if you havent already) i love the way he approached the issue. he is always so straightforward about things which is another thing i love about him but i think ever since that time, he has become more “active” at airports. i mean he couldve just ignored it. losing 1 fan wouldnt have mattered. or he couldve done that speech but still go on acting like that and tbh we couldnt blame him becuz he really doesnt have to do any fan service at the airports. but oh my god! the fanservice that i had the honor of witnessing with my own eyes from the first row at the airport in Berlin!!!! he was the only one to open the curtain and wave at us and did “i say ho you say ya” with us, he kept waving till the van disappeared from our sight and he def couldve chosen not to do that and we couldnt blame him but he chose to do it! also when he first did vlive, it was becuz he had to do it due to some official thing but he said if he knew it was so easy to do, he’d do it often and tbh i thought he said it just to say it you know? but he was sincere about it! he really does the most vlives and idk what more to say on this issue lol

His thought on his own chastity just multiplied by respect for him a million times!!! im keeping this short since its a private issue but its one of the top things i love the most about him!

Another thing i adore is his relationships with his friends. i mean everyone loves their friends but i think he is doing a little more than that. he always features his friends on his personal or group schedules whenever he has the chance so he introduces them to more and more people. in a way he is “presenting” them you know? i mean i dont think too many people knew about Hyojin before his Good Kissser stage (i for one didnt know) but now i dont think there is an Inspirit out there who doesnt know her and i think its too cute!

I legit started this around 4am and now its 5am and i have to wake up early otl but i had so much fun writing this and realized once again how much i love him not only as a singer but as a person too. I hope i havent missed out anything lol There are also stuff like how talented he is (he does perfect jobs in so many fields), how hardworking he is, how he loves his members etc but i think they are the kind of things that anyone, even if they arent HW biased can agree on and i wanted this post to be more personal rather than stating the observable facts :) 

If anyone has read this till the end, im really sorry for wasting your time but i also hope i could cause you see Howon from different sides and somehow put a smile on your face.

ohhhh man……u shouldn’t have given me so mcuh free will it took me embarrassingly long to pick a ship haha. That said, after Much Consideration between nicoeli and yohadia (idk why that ship isnt popular??? honestly???) i caved to my own clingy desires n picked my muse gals… sorry lmao

Eli blew on her hands, hoping the hot air would warm them. Maybe it was time to reinvest in a pair of gloves….. She sighed and made it a point to hurry with her bag, rushing into her car in the lot outside the apartment complex and closing the door behind herself just as quickly. Turning on the heater was enough to elicit another sigh. 

This part wasn’t so bad, it was just the getting here. It usually wasn’t so bad this time of year, especially for her, but there was a cold snap, or something. Eli vaguely remembered the weatherman saying that. Still, she had no idea it would mean cold-enough-that-you-should-have-kept-your-winter-gear-from-Russia cold. Talk about misleading. 

She relaxed her hands on the steering wheel and drove into the usual college traffic, backed up with people who thought they could leave fifteen minutes earlier and avoid ‘the rush’ which, ironically, just moved the rush to fifteen minutes earlier. So much for efficiency. While stopped, she gazed out the window, at all the dead trees and the frosted grass. It had yet to snow, but she could tell it was coming soon. 

Up the sidewalk, Eli spotted a familiar sight - Nico Yazawa, walking up the sidewalk, on time as usual but looking a little worse for the wear. All color seemed to have been drained from her hands, wrapped tightly around her schoolbag. Maybe they were frozen to it, hell, she wouldn’t be surprised. This had been routine all year, but the fact that Eli was still watching her walk up now, when it was too cold out for even her, sure was something. 

Eli couldn’t bear to watch it anymore. She pulled over and rolled the window down, stopping the car. “Nico, it’s negative sixteen out. Why are you walking to school? You’re going to get sick!” 

“Piss off, Ayase,” Nico replied, grateful as ever for the concern. 

She frowned. “Hey, I know you don’t like the help and all, but it’s seriously fine if I give you rides. You don’t live far and we have the same first classes.”

Nico kept walking. Feeling somehow slighted, Eli drove slowly to keep up. “Hey! Is that a no?

“Did you hear a yes?” She turned to look at Eli, condescending. 

Eli looked away. “Uh, no.”

“Then yes, that was a no.”

Glowering, Eli rolled up the window again, because if Nico was determined to be a little shit about it, then she guessed it wasn’t her fault if she froze. 

Probably. Maybe….. Aw, damn, she’d admit it. Eli still felt a little bad. 

The next day, staring out her window, Eli watched Nico pulling at her jacket hands and arms shaking. She rolled her eyes and pulled over again. “Nico! Stop being a baby and get in my car!”

“I thought you were never supposed to listen if a suspicious person asks you to get in their car?”

Oh for fuck’s sake. Eli stopped the car entirely, and got out, repressing the urge to shake or throttle Nico in favor of gripping her tightly by the back of her jacket and shoving her in the direction of the passenger seat. “Help! Child abduction!”

“You’re twenty years old and I’ve known you for six years, cut the shit.” She grumbled, and it seemed to work, finally, because Nico sighed (very overdramatically) and buckled herself in in the passenger seat. Eli smiled and got back into the driver’s seat, satisfied. “That wasn’t so hard, was it?”

Nico looked away. “Yeah, well - Well, it wasn’t that cold, so you’re really being a little pushy about helping me, is all!”

“You could just say thank you, you know.” Eli reminded her helpfully, giving Nico a playful shove to the shoulder. “I know it’s cold out, and I really don’t mind giving you rides. You don’t have to play hard to get over a carpool.”

Her face was red. Eli would be generous and let Nico tell her it was because of the cold, at least for today. “Okay, thanks.” She mumbled. “There, I said it.”

She grinned. “I appreciate it.” 

Eli bought two pairs of gloves after school.
