My Unpopular Zepotha opinions because it's trending again
-The spinoff series is so trash, and the new characters are out of place because what?? The only good thing that came with it was the music, and style, and settings thats it.
- Zio didn't deserve to die. She just wanted to make tea, it was too hot so she had to grab ice from the garage and was killed?? That was so stupid. Atleast kill her off in a proper way. She was like the only black character in the first half, and was killed??
- Cole is overrated. I said it. Personally I love Cole, but it had to be said.
- Marabelle, Maxine's twin sister was not the only one in the wrong. But pretendind to be her sister to steal her boyfriend (which maxine didn't want because she is hella fruity) was just wrong. She also didn't need to rip the college acceptance letter. She is my wife though. Glad she got a redemption arc.
- Lydia is sick in the head. Who forces someone to eat a frog in science inorder to join the crew?? who?? that was sick. She is sick.
- Vincent was actually a well written character. Hi character really showed what it's like to heal from addiction, and such.

Why are people so fucking mad at Zepotha?? Everyone is just having fun, it's not that deep. You don't like it? Okay. Just leave it alone. It's not that complicated. No need to hate on it.

Zethopa - Alaine x Maxine Relationship Analysis
!!! SPOILERS FOR UNDERGROUND 80’S HORROR MOVIE ZEPOTHA!!!
TW: brief mention of car/pedestrian accident
I’ve seen a lot of controversy here about Zepotha and I’d like to break that up by giving a character analysis about Alaine, our protagonist. Alaine is dating Danny, one of the antagonists. However, it is obvious that there is someone else who is on Alaine’s mind often. This someone? Maxine.
Groundbreaking for its time, Zepotha really does lean into themes of LGBTQ+ and lets Alaine struggle with her newfound bisexuality. She battles with herself between choosing Danny or choosing Maxine. She knows the safe choice. But she also knows the choice she’d much rather follow.
When Danny is revealed to be an accomplice, it shakes Alaine to her very core. What she knew about her safe option was a lie. This mirrors how she originally feels as she starts struggling with accepting her bisexuality. She turns to the option she wants and craves. She turns to Maxine. This in itself is another breakthrough for Alaine. She realizes that how she feels is okay. It’s not something she needs to be afraid of.
Before anything can happen between Alaine and Maxine, they’re distracted by the now famous Bridge Scene. Throughout the rest of the movie, Alaine and Maxine are close. They share glances, subtle touches, but never go farther than that. However, at the end of the movie we can see Alaine hopeful in her new life after all the horrors that consumed her throughout the movie.
Before the audience can get the hope we see in Alaine’s eyes, there’s a cut to Maxine and Lydia walking down the sidewalk, laughing with each other. Out of nowhere, a car swerves off the street, striking Maxine, killing her. While the credits roll, we hear a voiceover of Alaine receiving the news. In her voice, her despair is evident.
The killing of Alaine’s love throws the realization that in the environment she lives in, there’s no hope for her to live how she wants. She can never fully explore the sexuality she’s only recently come to love. The time she lives in will never allow it to happen.
While very much “kill your gays” of Zepotha, I think it went about it fairly well. The directors and producers knew what they were doing. They called out the homophobic rhetoric of the time. They never once second guessed this decision and it made Zepotha what it is today. I’m so happy to see it getting the recognition it deserves.

So in general I’m not a fan of horror, but Zepotha kinda stuck with me(beyond the childhood nightmares haha).
- The Allaine x Maxine subtext in retrospect is palpable and really well done. Both obviously very gay for each other.
- Vampires. It’s never stated explicitly. But a lot of the imagery seemed to subtly invoke our favorite bloodrinkers. Ex: bury/missing reflections, a background framed photo of Lydia’s “grandma” that looks suspiciously like the same actress, a lot of weirdly moving mist, and a surprising number of times blood gets in mouths.
- the action. Especially with the dramatic lighting from neon and rain, the action is entertaining and well choreographed. Still love the tunnel chase scene. Engaging but VERY bloody.
- I love forests… they did not make the woods a happy place in the film.

My favourite version of zepotha will always be the 80s vampire horror. Around day 1 when Danny and Lydia were vampires and Zepotha was like vampire heaven. It was such a lost boys vibe.

Are you lost in the lore and characters of Zpotha? Carefree ! Today I will introduce you to the 5 main characters and canon of Zepotha (1984) I will not talk about the other two films released after Zepotha 1 knowing that the creator does not see them as real sequels (Zepotha 2, Zepotha 3), the 2015 reboot or the animated series!!!
To begin, after several disappearances in the city of Zepotha, a group of 5 young teenagers come together to investigate strange phenomena related to it. We then discover our protagonists:
- Alaine: The main girl
Known in her high school but not enough to be seen as popular, Alaine is quiet and shy at first sight. We recognized him thanks to his slightly wavy hair and his green eyes.
- Danny: popular and kinda odd
Seen as the main boy of 80s cliché movies, Danny is one of the most popular dudes at Zepotha High. Leader of the football team and a baseball pro, he is recognizable by his short, black hair and blue eyes. He is however seen as very shady ( also the plot twist killer )
-Maxine: hot headed
Known for her jokes and red hair, Maxine is a fan favorite! We never see her far from Alaine and clearly seems to attracted by this one, unfortunately the writers never confirm it. Seen to have an explosive character, she adopts the stereotype of the masculine girl in a skirt.
-Lidya: the supposed witch
Initially accused for the disappearances by other students, Lidya is actually very friendly, generous and intelligent despite the rumors.
She is seen taking on the role of the gothic cliché with loose clothing and her long, black hair. She is also the first to suggest that the person causing the disappearances was close to the group
-Cole: high af
We don't really know which group Cole belongs to at first. He knows everyone and has often spent time with Danny or Lydia. His long and light hair is easy to notice without forgetting his three-day beard. Clearly the comic stoner of the band , he becomes the most important death of the film :(
I hope this beginning guide has helped you!
(Btw, English is not my first language! Be indulgent please!)

Forget Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street.
Zepotha is the best!
Lydia would also see how much Darlene looks like Maxine.
