Thank you for the tags! I remember when I had enough free time to answer each tag game separately. This snippet is from Flu O'Clock, a story in the on your hands and your knees, do you feel in charge? series. Classic sick!fic with my end goal being platonic OT3. Want to see how that's going?

Telford could appreciate the directness, and he wasn't about to do harm to himself just because he didn't like the taste of something. That was more Rush's speed, though he wisely didn't verbalise that thought, accepting the canteen and knocking back the stuff as quickly as he could without risking hurling it up again. "Good boy," Rush said, still in an aggressively casual tone of voice. Everett coughed. Rush did that thing where outwardly he completely ignored the sound, but Telford could see that all of the man's senses were trained with extreme interest on Everett, keenly awaiting any trace of pull on the line. Of course he got exactly what he wanted, because Everett just wasn't able to help himself, in far too many areas of his life. "You said you had work to do?" he asked Rush, proving the one thing he didn't possess was any degree of subtlety. "I think I'll work in here today," Rush said, the way he'd stated it as a fact without even an attempt at the faux politeness of asking if that would be alright designed to press Everett's buttons, specifically his agreeable-unless-you-don't-acknowledge-my-authority one. "Do you really think that's necessary?" Everett responded, overly mild. "He needs his rest." Rush placed the back of his hand on Telford's forehead. Telford heard Everett stand up. That's right, he thought with no small amount of amusement, fight like dogs over me. He relaxed beneath Rush's cool skin, allowing his eyes to drift closed. "I won't be a bother," Rush offered, in a tone far too soft to be used in company, in Telford's opinion. "I just think--" Everett started, only to be immediately interrupted. "I don't care what you think." "Rush." "What?" "You're going to calm down," Everett ordered, doing a terrible job of remaining calm himself. "I'm not the one yelling," Rush retorted, blunt but with a level enough voice that Telford knew Everett would find infuriating. "Maybe you'd like to practice using your inside voice." "Listen!" Everett hissed, clearly restraining himself from moving any closer. "You can't--" "I can do whatever I damn well please." The bed shifted as Rush stood. "You're not going to fucking touch me." Invoking Telford's unspoken protection was an odd play, but one of the best things about Rush was that he never did what was expected of him, always keeping those around him on their toes. Everett let out a warning rumble and Telford cracked his eyes open to see the two men standing nose to nose, staring each other down with no attempt from either party to conceal their aggression. "You know," Telford remarked pointedly. "If you two want to fuck you can have the bed." The twin scandalised expressions he received in response were well worth the headache the argument had set raging inside his skull, a bull deciding his brain would make a nice china shop to run riot in.

Ali smirked into the kiss as a low rumble escaped his own throat. ‘Is this a wish, Noah, or a command?’

Wip TSA / The scarred angel

Ashley doesn't beeline straight to the way out but follows instead along the wall, reaching next to the trashed loading door and at first peering outside for whoever might be around.

Checking that it's all-clear she whispers prompts Amy : "Lets' go!" then pushes the backpack through the available space between the roller shutter and the ground and crawls outside on all four.

Behind Amy follows.

Once in the open, while getting on her feet, Amy gives a once over at what at first impression looks like an extended landfill.

Gapes at first and turns towards Ashley but the indecipherable expression on her face stops Amy on her tracks to ask any question she would like to ask, brings her back at the sorrow landscape that opens before her eyes.

And no, she's not mistaken.

Arching a brow, flashing a lopsided smile, Ashley meets Amy's shock : "Welcome to the jungle little lady".

Seven Sentence Sunday

Tagged by @the-golden-comet and @theaistired; thank you! Pulling from chapter seven of The Mistress of Rosehorn Hall. This is a pretty steamy chapter, so I'm cutting back before the spice:

The next time Sarah opens her eyes, she’s snugly tucked in bed. Above her, rain continues pelting the roof of Rosehorn Hall and thunder gently rumbles from far away. But pale light gently streams into her room as though the moon was high in the sky. It’s a cozy night to be in bed, and Sarah turns to snuggle into her pillow. Her pillow is firmer than she expected—and dressed in green paisley fabric, smelling of expensive cigars and old books. Lifting her head, Sarah’s dark eyes meet the golden gaze of Lord Rufus as his eyes open slowly. One of his arms cradles Sarah against his chest while his other arm is propped up on the pillow so he can rest his cheek against the palm of his hand.

Sheppard's getting there, guys! He's actually fucking getting there! 😈

He pressed his hand more firmly against Todd's, sensing the pleased rumble he received in response not through his hearing but through his mind, not dissimilar to how Atlantis would wait with bated breath for him to be alone at the end of each day so she could slide into his mind and exist within him and beside him and as him all at once. He'd never told a soul how connected she really was to him, fearing repercussions of compromised and unreliable and mentally unsound. There was nothing the others would understand of the bond. Not even Teyla who had described in detail the desperation of the hive she'd commanded to please her. Because she hadn't wanted it. Sheppard did. Atlantis was beautiful. She needed him. This, this was a fuzzy tickling at the edge of his consciousness, an image seen through a sheen of heat haze, the details blurred and impossible to define, a secretive rivulet of desire that ran deep and had been buried beneath layers upon layers of sand. The desert got bitingly cold at night, Sheppard knew with intolerable familiarity.

A Musing Monday 🎐

Today I'm musing about extradimensional spaces! Like Mary Poppin's bag, or 'eatery that connects to an isekai' anime, or your mind, even.

I do think the mind is a type of extradimensional space. We fit the essence of so many places and moments and people into the folds of our memory, contained in the little box that is our skulls. We imagine worlds, we dream entirely separate lifetimes. It's wild, and amazing, and a little terrifying.

Occasionally I think about how the entire world around me is MY world- in that my only access to reality is through my own interpretations, experiences, and the senses that link to my brain, all of which may or may not be close to the truth of reality. When I die one day, my world dies too- not one creature on earth will live in the same world that I knew due to my relationship with everything perceivable to me.

Before I get TOO existential here though (or maybe I'm getting more existential)- think of what that means for writers! We are masons crafting gateways to extradimensional spaces. Through what we do, people can visit the pocket dimensions of OUR minds, dimensions that have the possibility to continue existing long after the mind/wold that created it expires. And because everyone perceives things through their own lens, writing one story and sharing it creates the potential for countless alternate dimensions; every soul that reads your work will carry their own personal version of it in their mind. If you have a hit count or something similar on your work, THAT'S how many dimensions you've created, at least.

Not only that, but when someone reads what you've written, THEIR world alters. It may be slight, your work or your post might provide a momentary reprieve from the part of their world they're avoiding or decompressing from (which is still a very important thing), or it may give them an idea of their own, it may motivate them to make one choice over another choice, it may alter the very way they think and interact with their family, their partners, themselves. You very well may alter the fabric of what a person is, the dimension of their mind warping with the way it interacts with your dimension.

Never forget that as a writer, or any creator of art for that matter, you are a world-builder, a world-shatterer, a world-repairer; a powerful and magical being that may alter the course of history. Writing is magic, and it's sorcery, and I desperately hope even the small unconfident blogs on here recognize that power.

The Mistress of Rosehorn Hall, Chapter 5: The Trap

Vampire fraud? Vampire fraud:

What for this farce, this carousel of family members masquerading as one another? Who is buried in the family cemetery behind the house? What of the wives and husbands of the lords and ladies that married into Rosehorn Hall? Sarah sees them next to their noble spouses; among those bearing the Rufus name, all but a few lived normal lives and died normal deaths. All of it centers on the Battle of Tewkesbury. The few portraits that exist from before the Wars of the Roses depict different family members than the dozen who have swapped ownership of Rosehorn Hall over the centuries. Their death dates and causes of death are also natural, at least for the time period. This is what sent Sarah on her mission in the first place: What really happened at the Battle of Tewkesbury between Lord Rufus and Sir Linwood?
