The problem is
Cozy mystery and cozy fantasy have no teeth. They are pure escapism, and for a certain part of the population that I don't belong to. There's no bite to them. No substance that I can chew on as I read or write. I know a lot of people enjoy them and that's okay but
I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something on my end to put these pieces together
It's almost four am and I'm debating writing an au short story or novelette for Runner Owen that's a cozy fantasy/mystery plot. I'm not really big into cozy fantasy or cozy mystery but I'm curious if it would sell.
At the same time I've only released one short story in this series so far so maybe I'm getting ahead of myself...

If the Runner Owen series were a video game, it would be either a soulsborne or a tactics RPG. The thing about the latter is, while Owen is the strategist and can't fight, the enemy can, and does, attack him.
Also if Aurum dies it's an immediate game over because Owen dies of grief on the spot lol

a quick thing:
The prince is asleep. The light of the fire shifts over his softened features, the blanket wrapped around his relaxed frame. His golden studs catch the light, on his eyebrow, his nose, below the beard beneath his lower lip. A few of his black locs fell before his face, and with a trembling hand, I tucked them away behind his ear. He did not even stir, but I thought, I thought, I thought he smiled, for me.
My heart weeps. He is beautiful. In moments like this, I think-- but I think too much. And this is not what I'm paid to think about.
But in this secret moment, I understand, oh Scarred Man you wicked soul, yes I think I see the power you seek to unleash by corrupting him.
I will not let you.

My queer gothic fantasy/horror story is here!
Haunted by the events at the Glint Hall Hotel, Owen Rosedown writes a letter to the one person he knows will understand… Owen is a Runner - a detective for hire - and no stranger to crime and death. He's not so familiar with spirits. When his cousin, Loretta, asks for his help, Owen doesn't hesitate to agree. It should have been so simple to investigate the medium. But Owen's meeting with Theodora Dartmere takes a turn he couldn't have expected. Miss Dartmere's dead fiance calls for help. And when the lights go out, the Damned will claim their feast.

I updated the summary on itchio for Friend of the Damned, because I knew I could do better. How do ya'll like it?:
Haunted by the events at the Glint Hall Hotel, Owen writes a letter to the one person he knows will understand… Owen Rosedown is a Runner - a detective for hire - and no stranger to crime and death. Spirits, however, are not something he's so used to. When his cousin, Loretta, asks him to investigate a mourning medium, Owen doesn't hesitate to agree. Certainly, it's an unusual case, but she's family. But when Loretta leaves, and Owen follows the sound of breaking glass to its source, he finds himself trapped in a room with four others - and none of them have his best interests in mind. But it's Miss Theodora Dartmere, the medium herself, who has the most to lose. And when the lights go out, the Damned will claim their feast. A short story set in the queer gothic fantasy world of Runner Owen, a world of eternal night, with evil vampires, desperate ghosts, wicked nobles and two rivals who would do anything to claim Owen for themselves. This story features a transgender hero, racially diverse characters, multiple queer relationships living and dead, and creeping dread leading to a startling ending. It also involves elements of mild transphobia, body horror, and Victorian-inspired classism.

Since The Living Bride is definitely not a short story, I'm developing an actual short story to share while I write The Living Bride. And all my other stuff.

So I know I've shared art I've gotten of Owen on this blog before but I'm curious... For those who have read Friend of the Damned, and anything else I've shared on this blog, what did you picture him looking like?
