They say he's the life of the party. There's irony in there somewhere, if Klaus's foggy head could process it.

Stumbling out of alley, flashing lights and thudding base in his wake, the Seance--Number Four--grimaced in the light of dawn. Why did it have to be so damn bright? His body ached from a night of mindless clubbing, reeking of the sweat and smoke of not only himself, but a hundred others in the night. Where to go from here?

Despite the liquor warm in his belly, Klaus shivered in the early morning air. Now that he's down the block, everything just seemed so...quiet. Peaceful. Only a few cars on the road. Only a few spirits following him. One of whom was being particularly annoying for a six AM walk of shame.

"Oh will you be quiet?" he groaned as he wandered the street, tired of his dead brother's nagging. "I'm not--I mean, not like that. Besides, don't you ever get tired of--of henning me?"

Not going in any particular direction, Klaus found himself passing a few early morning joggers. They gave him wide berth, considering he was slurring at thin air beside him. When he caught his own reflection in a parked car, Klaus didn't blame them.

Dark circles smeared with eyeliner, a sickly grey to his skin, and glassy, blown out pupils stared hazily back at him. He might as well be a ghost himself. Ignoring Ben's insistence that they go home, Klaus pulled himself away from car with a shiver. At some point in the night, he seemed to have misplaced his shoes, and the cold sidewalk was making his feet go numb. Maybe Ben had a point.

No sooner had the revelation cross his mind, when Klaus looked up, catching sight of his one and only savior: a busted up sign reading "GRIDDY'S DONUTS".

"Perfect--we'll get some coffee, warm up our feetsies, and be back before Luther's pre-breakfast work out," he was saying, seemingly to himself as he pushed through the door. A charming ding! sounded somewhere in the building, and Klaus gave a wave to the waitress behind the counter. "G'morning Ms. Rofa, just the usual tonight--aw shit..."

Of course his favorite booth was the only table occupied, this early in the morning. With their back to him, he can't see their face, but it doesn't matter. Fueled by an astonishing amount of liquid courage, Klaus stomped his way over to the table. His table.

"Hey, who do you--who do you think you are, buddy?"

The siblings all sit around the fireplace, cradling dishes from Luther’s favorite chinese takeout restaurant in their laps. They eat in a companionable silence.

Five settles into his spot in the sofa, once again foolishly believing that he’ll be able to enjoy the peace and quiet. Suddenly, the box spins again. “Goddamn it.”

He reluctantly reaches for the box, huffing as he unclasps it and pulls out another note. He reads it out loud and looks around the room.

“I wouldn’t trade mine,” Klaus says quietly. Ben looks up at him from across the room, smiling subtly. “I like being immortal. The ghosts aren’t my favorite, but I’d manage for Benerino.”

Viktor nods. “I’d keep mine, too. I finally understand how to control it.”

“I think I’d swap mine.” Allison wipes her mouth with a napkin. “I love my power, don’t get me wrong, but it’s such a dangerous game to play. It’s not as exciting as it seems to bend free will.”

“What would you swap it for?” Diego asks.

She shrugs. “I don’t know. You guys fit your powers. I think Sloane’s is pretty badass.”

Luther nods. “Oh, trust me, she-”

“That’s enough of that. I wouldn’t trade mine. No one would use it as intelligently as I do.” Five interrupts him. “Blinking is my thing.”

“And mine.” Lila appears with a flash in front of the fireplace, causing everyone to jump.

Five shakes his head. “I thought it couldn’t get any worse.”

“I like mine. It’s fun to give your abilities a little test run. And also use them better than all of you.” She addresses the group in its entirety.

Diego shakes his head as he pulls her into his lap. “I’d keep mine too.”

Luther nods. “Yeah. I think we’ve all grown into them too much to lose them.”

Allison looks down at her noodles with a sad expression. “Hey,” Luther looks at her, “rumoring is scary. It’s the threat of temptation. It’s understandable that you wouldn’t want-”

“Actually,” she cuts him off, “I like rumoring. I’ve learned to control the tempting nature of it, I think.”

“You sure have, sister,” Klaus points at her with a smile. “Go you.”

She gives him a small smile in return and takes another bite of her food. “Thanks, Klaus.”

They continue eating in silence again.

“Ben says he’d keep his too. But he’d like to be able to, y’know. Actually use it.” Klaus stares into the fire with an unreadable expression.

“Asshole Ben would probably trade it for something stupid, like…” Diego trails off.

“Turning invisible in the bloody dark.” Lila finishes.

Viktor chuckles, “No, he’d totally pick flying. And then we’d have to pick him up from the hospital because he crashed into a skyscraper.”

“I think he’d try talking to animals, except none would want to talk to him because he’s a dickhead,” Five chimes in.

They all laugh in agreement just as Ben stumbles in, still wiping sleep out of his eyes.

“What the hell are you guys doing? Chinese at,” He glances at his watch, “10:58 a.m.?”

Luther snaps his fingers. “There he is.”

is tua rp tumblr in need of a luther and is that a good place to be. I'd want to avoid any proship stuff. mostly even avoid Sloane/Luther if I can cause theyre not horrible but idk I don't like it THAT much. and I'd be new to the ro scene on here.

I honestly even feel uncomfortable with anyone who's okay with incest being portrayed at all. like the mention of allison and Luther is kinda ivky to me but I know it's in Luthers canon story but I'd want to avoid it at all costs.

If someone were to tell Five that he’d be privy to a bunch of his siblings fighting tooth and nail all over something their father did then he’d have around 100 nickels by now. It’s not a surprise that they do this ALL the time. What IS a surprise, however, is the reason they’re all arguing in the first place which, apparently, has to do with him. How touching (not).

“Hey, assholes!”

Five makes sure to splash every single of one of his siblings in water. He even spits directly at Luther. “Can we stop arguing over the morality of keeping me locked in a fish tank in the basement? If you haven’t noticed, I’m a fish. It’s what fishes do. Will you stop running around like chickens with your fucking heads cut off?”

Seriously. How come THIS was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Most of the family has dispersed, but Lila sits on the floor next to Klaus as she paints his nails black. Five is still in his spot, now reading again. Viktor is fiddling with his thumbs on the armchair that sits before the fireplace, clearly bored.

The box spins again.

Lila sets the bottle of polish down and opens it, pulling out the note inside. She begins to read it, but quickly cuts herself off and drops the paper back on the table. “It’s about Five. I’m not reading that.”

Five perks up. “Hm?”

Viktor, eager for something to do, walks over and picks up the note as Lila returns to Klaus’ nails. He reads the note aloud and Klaus gives Five a goofy smile. “Aww, look at Cinco, getting the appreciation he deserves.”

“They also called me a douchebag.”

Lila nods. “They were spot-on.”

Five glares at her. “I’m not an asshole. I’m honest. Blunt.” He looks down. “You bunch of idiots need bluntness when we’re saving the world.”

“We’re not saving the world anymore, old man,” Klaus gives him a genuine expression.

Five studies him for a minute. “Yeah… yeah, I know.” He sits in the now uncomfortable silence before speaking again. “Do you guys think I’m an asshole?”

“Yes.” Lila is also blunt.

Viktor furrows his brows at her and looks back to Five. “Sometimes, you can be a little… rough.”

“Amen, brother.” Klaus nods in agreement.

Five sits with the discomfort for a while. “Didn’t realize,” he says as he watches the fire climb and fall again and again.

“Hey, that’s alright. Most old people don’t realize.” Klaus inches over and puts a hand on his shoulder.

Five squints at his brother. “I’m not that old, you nimwit.”

“You aren’t? Aren’t you, like, 79 or something, now?”

Five tilts his head, his eyes squinted and brows furrowed. “Still 58.”

Klaus’ eyes widen. “You’ve been 58 for too long. We gotta get you to age a few years.”

Five looks back down at his book. “Believe me, I’d love to live long enough to age again.”

“Hey, man, we’re going to.” Viktor gives him a small, reassuring smile.

“I’ve changed my mind,” Lila announces as she pulls Klaus back over to continue on his nails. “I couldn’t handle Five being a decent, kind person. Carry on as you were.”

Five gives her a nod out of solace and returns to his book as Viktor flops back down on the armchair. “Yeah, I guess you kinda earned the right to be an ass, surviving an apocalypse, and then stopping two more in a row.”

Lila pauses. “In a row?”

Five looks up at her. “Yep. Almost watched the world end, jumped, just to nearly watch it end again. Didn’t even get to change my uniform ‘til we got to that stupid hotel.”

“Our Reggie’s probably rolling over in his grave, thinking about how you saved the world twice in those godawful uniforms he forced us into.” Klaus smiles.

Five nods. “I hope so, the old dog deserves it.”

The room returns to a silence again, no longer uncomfortable, but content.
