To Ascend Part 3
Meanwhile, Mobei jun and Binghe amass army. They know cultivators' weaknesses, place layouts, and anything essential via spy Shang Qinghua.
While planning in the throne room, a demon servant comes to inform them that there's a demon asking for their audience.
There stands a young demon in green robes, scales adorning his face and arms.
"And you are...?"
"Zhuzhi lang."
Zhuzhi lang has speculated this young Heavenly Demon might be his junshang's son. They discuss and set their next goal as freeing Tianlang jun under the Bailu Mountain.
The demons destroy the seals and arrays chaining Tianlang jun. Binghe uses his blood parasites to help heal Tianlang jun. Tianlang jun sees a Heavenly Demon he has never seen before, who looks like Su Xiyan, and puts two and two together.
"Where is your mother?"
"I've never know my birth mother but my adoptive mother is dead."
Tianlang jun doesn't know how Su Xiyan died nor does he care. Either she's killed by demons who dislike humans, or betrayed by humans just like he was.
"They accused me of planning to usurp the Human Realm so I shall grant their wish."
Luo Binghe tells his father the Qing Jing Peak Lord is off limits because his shizun never abused him and he was the only one not participating in fighting him in front of the Endless Abyss.
Tianlang jun still likes human cultures even though he hates cultivators, decides to spare (Qing Jing) scholars, writers, dancers, singers, performers, artists, etc, and kill all the other cultivators.
They start with their common enemy, the Huan Hua Palace. Zhuzhi lang scouts the Huan Hua Palace, and finds Xu Siyan's mission details in the archive.
Mobei jun opens the portal to pour countless demons to siege Huan Hua. Tianlang jun steps in front of the Old Palace Master.
He turns to speak to Luo Binghe. "This is the man that made you an orphan, and charged me falsely. My nephew, how about you? What grudge do you have with this scum?"
"My wish is as Junshang wishes."
"Well then. Let's share the tortures."
Tianlang jun slices his palm. The blood fox flies to grab the Old Palace Master's jaw.
"Since the three of us have blood parasites." Tianlang jun smiles, his eyes cold and sinister. The blood forcefully creeps in the Old Palace Master's mouth.
Luo Binghe cannot control his blood remotely yet so he pours his blood into the Old Palace Master's mouth directly.
Zhuzhi lang bites the Old Palace Master. The blood parasite seeps in together with the painful venom.
"Shall we start?"
"Aaaaaaaarggh." The screams echo throughout the crumbled palace, mixed with the sounds of muscles ripped, tendons snapped, bones crushed, blood splattered, the wheezing, the gurgling, the howling.
Then the Old Palace Master is healed.
"My son, I'll teach you the art of tortures. Heal the nerves to the perfect condition, then the vital organs only enough to keep your enemy alive. Leave the rest as they are..."
I've had this idea for months but I can't figure the details near the end, and the scale of the fic seems too large for my experience so here is the snippet? to read.
The summary might be:
'Shen Qingqiu did not pour tea on Luo Binghe, did not give him a faulty cultivation manual, did not lock him in the woodshed, nor did he punish him unjustly.
Nevertheless, Shen Qingqiu is a cold and bitter man.
The Endless Abyss still opens in the Immortal Alliance Conference. Luo Binghe's seal still breaks.
And there stands Shen Qingqiu who is intensely staring at the pleading and crying disciple.'
--
When original Shen Qingqiu is standing in front of the Endless Abyss when Binghe's seal breaks, the first person who looks for him and arrives is Yue Qingyuan.
Yue Qingyuan, seeing the familiar glowing Heavenly Demon mark he saw on Tianlang jun 17 years ago on Binghe's forehead, shouts to Shen Qingqiu to step back, and inhesitantly unsheaths Xuan Su for the first time in 17 years to blast at Binghe (almost to death but not death because of the protagonist halo) to save his Xiao Jiu.
Shen Qingqiu, however, doesn't step back as he's told. He inscrutably watches Binghe's lying sprawl on the ground, whose wounds are slowly mending together.
Mobei jun then attacks Yue Qingyuan. Yue Qingyuan tells Shen Qingqiu to call for help but Shen Qingqiu ignores and is in inaction until other cultivators arrive due to the intense fighting and enormous qi.
The other cultivators fight Mobei jun and other demons Mobei jun brought. Weapons clang, talimans fly around, seals are activated, and demonic tendrils lash, but Shen Qingqiu never participates.
Finally Yue Qingyuan blasts Binghe into the Endless Abyss. Unknown to everybody except Shen Qingqiu who isn't busy fighting, Mobei jun opens a portal just inside the Endless Abyss and another portal for himself to teleports them both to the Demon Realm.
Yue Qingyuan frantically runs to check Shen Qingqiu, "Qingqiu shidi, are you alright?"
Shen Qingqiu remains silent then tilts his head up and asks, "Are you, Zhangmen shixiong? Why did your sword siphon power from your life force?"
Yue Qingyuan pauses.
It was the first time since Shen Qingqiu stepped into Cang Qiong that he saw Yue Qingyuan drew Xuan Su. Who would have thought that the only happenstance was on the day his disciple turned out to inherit a demon lineage?
"Qingqiu shidi, that's... Unimportant right now. Are you injured anywhere?"
Shen Qingiu clicks his tongue at the blatant evasion and snaps his  fan open to hide his face.
"This shidi's injury isn't important either." Shen Qingqiu turns away to stare at the broken Zhengyang.
"Xiao Jiu..." Yue Qingyuan frets and reaches out to check for Shen Qingqiu's injuries, noting the unusual absence of the aversion to skin contacts and the angry retort after calling the old name.
"Your disciple... Did you know he's a Heavenly Demon?"
"A half Heavenly Demon," Shen Qingqiu corrects pointedly. "And no, I didn't."
Shen Qingqiu bends down to pick up Zheng Yang shards and gather  them into his qiankun pouch ignoring Yue Qingyuan’s fussing.
Then they discuss the casualities and injuries from the event in a tent.
---
A small green snake slithers to the now quiet battlefield. It licks the blood soaked ground and transforms.

Fandom: The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System by Mòxiāng Tóngxiù
Pairing: Liu Qingge/Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu
Illustration: Xiao Tong @velsmells
Wow, this book ended up being much more of a project than I anticipated, as you can see from the "published in 2020" on the title page. It's three months later, and I've finally finished! 🥰
I absolutely adore this fic, such a great character study and coda to the novel, and of course some excellent porn with feelings. Such exquisite writing, one of my favorite SVSSS fics! I’m ashamed to admit, when I first read Scum Villain, Liu Qingge didn’t make much of an impression on me; I credit this story for showing me the light. So earnest, so awkward, really just my favorite kind of character.
Continue past the cut for my ~process~ (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Fonts
Body: Cheltenham
Titles, header and page numbers: Novarese and Gill Sans
Materials
Bookcloth: Arrestox pewter
Cover: Gray, pink, and gold marbled jute fiber paper, 96 gsm
Headbands/bookmark: DMC Diamant D140 Black Gold; DMC Pearl Cotton Size 5, 353 Peach; 3/8 in. grey satin ribbon
Title: Cricut Foil Iron-On
Text block: Hammermill Cream 20lbs, Lineco linen binder’s thread
Unusually for me, I made my decision for the layout pretty quickly. I knew I wanted something that looked like a contemporary fantasy book. In particular, the 1 inch indent on the opening chapter paragraph, parallel with the chapter title, I saw in Gideon the Ninth. I think it really gives an elegant, modern feel. I did the same mixture of Cheltenham for the body text and Gill Sans for the header and page numbers in my previous project, astolat’s And I Alone Have Escaped to Tell You.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Comparison with Gideon the Ninth, as well as some clearer pictures of the layout because I can't take focused photos to save my life)
I debated for a while about the cover paper: I thought maybe something blue, white, and/or gray would work as Liu Qingge’s colors, but I couldn’t find anything I liked. My next thought, was, Hey, this pink/grey paper I already have looks blood-ish … demon blood… 🤔 So, it’s not much of a thought, but the combination with the gray bookcloth turned out so well, I can’t really complain.
For this project, I did zig-zag endpapers using DAS bookbinding’s tutorial, which was frustratingly vague at parts. But I much prefer the end results compared to pasted on endpapers, and I’m going to continue to do it in the future. However, I was a bit dumb, so I pasted paper over the spine as reinforcement…but that also went over part of the hinge, so it doesn’t flex as much as it should. Well, you live and learn.
Once I found this tutorial, I was able to make the headbands very easily. The use of tissue paper makes starting much easier and the process much less fiddly. I think that the satin ribbon looks pretty, but in the future I want to use cotton, and for books of this size, a smaller width. Getting the needle through the weave and keeping the ribbon centered was difficult.
I used my sister’s Cricut machine to cut out the titles, and I was really surprised how it cut out the thin serif font. Unfortunately, I had already constructed the case so I couldn’t properly lay it flat on the ironing board--would not recommend.
For a long time I've been hesitant to make wheat paste, since PVA worked fine already (and I hate trying new things). But it was so easy, I’m annoyed I didn’t do it sooner. Water, flour, a microwave, that’s all you need. I got a much smoother application with a mixture of paste and PVA, as I wasn’t rushing to put down the endpapers before the PVA dried up.
I tried a few new things with this project: using zig-zag endpapers, adding headbands and a bookmark, titling the spine, and gluing the endpapers with a paste/PVA mixture instead of straight PVA. I really think it ended up creating a more professional-looking book.
Thank you, acernor, for writing such an excellent fic, that was such a pleasure to bind! As well as to velsmells for graciously giving permission to use their artwork, and everyone on the Renegade Bindery discord who took the time to give me advice and feedback. 💖

I’m finally getting around to actually write again and wanted to share a little preview of the next chapter of ‘A Deal for an Empress’
[...] Tianlang-Jun was still completely carefree about the whole situation, as if even believing that his new in-law was excited to be here and being married to his son. “If you have time, Master Shen, would you join Zhuzhi-Lang and me for a tea? We didn't have much chance to get to know each other yesterday after all and I would love to learn more about the man who had captivated my son's heart to such a degree.”
Shen Qingqiu was not sure if 'having captivated Luo Binghe's heart' was the correct words for the situation, as their relationship was and always had been outrageously bad, yet he did not comment on it. Instead he gave the offer some thought and in the end decided to agree. It was after all wise to not only know the full layout of his new prison, but to also know the demons within.
As such Tianlang-Jun led Shen Qingqiu to his and Zhuzhi-Lang's shared courtyard where they took a seat on the porch overlooking the whole expanse of it, where Zhuzhi-Lang served them all tea as if he himself were a servant and not a member of the royal family. The courtyard was very flashy, with a surprising amount of flora found in the human realm, and it looked like the dwelling of some lovesick, rich poet who liked to dwindle away their days describing the beauty of a dam by comparing it to flower pedals. It was almost cheesy and if it weren't for the very expensive gold and jade being used all around, it would look unfitting for a terrifying pure-blooded heavenly demon who was considered a calamity who could bring ruin to the human realm.
“So, how was your wedding night? I hope my son hasn't been too rough with you, Master Shen.”
Within in an instant Shen Qingqiu regretted with every fibre of his being to having agreed to joining in for the tea, as he struggled to not spit it back out from shock and embarrassment. Did that outrageous demon elder actually just ask him how the sex with his son had been?! [...]
Same as always, this is not edited yet so may have errors and could have changes later on

Okay this is for like, 3 people
Please check it out in the phone, my layout is shit to read but it’s been 12 years since I’ve changed any of my blog settings and I no longer have energy to relearn how to do it
I promised (umprompted, on my own) to make a Scum Villain review, so here it goes:
in short, I liked it (aaaand there’s where the 3 people I wrote for get all the information they actually wanted, but whatever. You girls don’t get a say)
Obviously it’s hard to not compare it to mdzs, and they do feel like they were written by the same person, at least. The style of story, I mean. The writing style is completely different - because the main character is a millenial internet dudebro, and his thoughts are always there to remind us of this. In fact, I’m very curious to know how the original is written, since this genre tends to be written a bit more composed than THAT, right? XD (mxtx herself was worried that people wouldn’t like mdzs because it is very different of this 1st work of hers)
Anyway, it’s far more satirical than mdzs, and funnier than sadder. I still think mdzs is better overall, but that’s not to say Scum Villain dissapoints. In fact, I knew a bunch of mini spoilers, and still everything was a wild ride. I could hardly predict the turn of events. In fact, I predicted nothing. Thrice I made stupid faces in the subway to try and contain my laughter, so if nothing else, it’ll be fun. But remember, it’s still mxtx!
If there’s one thing that was annoying was the sheer volume of footnotes each chapter has. Shen Qingqiu, Why So Many References. But it’s cool that I had to read chapters of different translators, unlike mdzs, and compare their styles of translations, sometimes even with a chapter translated in two different sites, hah
Also... there’s a fine line between mxtx’s naming sense and the in-universe’s authors naming sense. Whenever you see a ridiculous name, mxtx is probably getting a kick out of it. In fact, the whole novel makes some remarks about webnovel publishing, fans and anti-fans receptions, not to mention an author deciding to give in to demands instead of writing a good story.
And have I mentioned the protag is an internet dudebro? A lot of the novel comes through his pov, so expect a more gendered language. tbh I don’t know what’s more surprising, that he was quick to accept Luo Binghe’s feelings once everything was said and done, or that he had been kissed in his previous life. You’re not gonna hear anything much about his previous life either btw, which is a bummer but maybe it’s the point. He was still pretty fun and engaging to me, maybe because like him I tend to think more than feel, have a terribly dry humor and value being practical. He’s still a kind person and a surprisingly loved father figure, LOL. (is it a spoiler if I say that we have an entire cast of scum villains, protag aside?)
Please, don’t skip the extras. They’re not easy to find but they’re all great
Also... the main pairing is otp alright, but unlike mdzs, I can see the appeal of a bunch of side pairings for the main character, too... There’s a lot of people romantically interested in the main characters too, which didn’t really happen in mdzs and ruka will probably find this as fun as I did
Now, I feel obliged to give the usual warnings of what one would find, which is like... mxtx being mxtx. Gore, blood, terrible deaths, characters having horrible fates, understandable but disastrous misunderstandings, house arrests happen (?), implied rape, dub-con (non-con?) - and this one isn’t their kink, so it’s for real. Aaaand painful sex. Painful, honest-to-god bloody sex. This one is a squick of mine, so when I read this chapter I was mentally screaming AAAAAAAAA all the time. This one time is written in a very un-sexy way, me thinks
One last thing: Holy Shit, Luo Binghe exists to suffer

luo binghe lays in those same tattered robes he wore on his palace floor, pulled apart at the lapels to reveal his chest that… was no longer blue with suffocation. instead now he’s alive, with blood flooding his veins, sweet air filling his lungs as his panicked eyes roam around the room around him.
this… wasn’t the demon realm… or if it were, he certainly didn’t recognize this layout anywhere within his region; what were these leaflets hanging on the wall? the strange device in the corner emanating white light… it looked like a demon, yet it didn’t move…
luo binghe sits abruptly, ready to fight the demon (computer) when he catches sight of the figure beside him, sprawled out in his belly in slumber.
the demon lord pauses. confusion washing over him. why did this man have such short hair? was he a daoist priest? a beggar cultivator?
a… prostitute?
rubbing his chin, luo binghe observes for a moment before lifting the sheets from around his waist.
“ hm. clothed.. not a prostitute. “
x. in where luo binghe transmigrated
he didn’t remember what happened after death or the last breaths that seemed to wisp forth from his lips as the last of the poison had coveted his system. all he remembered was the vision of those emerald eyes gazing sorrowfully at him before he’d left his world forever.
shen qingqiu… shizun.
it was like he’d been falling endlessly once more, into the abyss that swallowed him for five years yet there had been no end, no bottom or hell flames that devoured him whole.
for when he opens his eyes after plummeting, he finds himself in a strange new world.
on the floor of a dirty bedroom beside a sleeping @cucumber-shenqingqiu.
