Damn, now that is a strong start to an IF. For me personally within a few pages I generally get a feel for if I'll like whatever I'm reading or not, and believe me I've passed over a lot of IFs because of this, But, as for Lightweaver even though there isn't a great deal of content yet, it has me very invested already and that is because your writing is genuinely good, seriously can't wait to see where this goes. A huge cinnamon roll, but they're not afraid to poke MC's shell a bit while still being very careful of their boundaries.

Impulsive. Which sometimes does them good or bad.

Loves to show off their skills. They secretly love receiving praise, especially from MC.

Alice/Alec Langley (L's best friend)

A water weaver.

They enjoy duels and challenging situations. For a water weaver they can be quite rough!

An overthinker. Sometimes, amusingly so.

Logical and academic. But is still game for some good senseless banter. They don't pull their punches... except with MC.

Always has an icy look on their face, but really, that's just their resting bitch face.

Review Party - L'Ascesa di Senlin, di Josiah Bancroft

La Torre di Babele è la più grande meraviglia del mondo conosciuto. Grande come una montagna, l'immensa Torre ospita innumerevoli Regni Circolari, alcuni pacifici, altri bellicosi, appoggiati l'uno sull'altro come gli strati di una torta. È un mondo popolato di geni e tiranni, aeronavi e motori a vapore, animali insoliti e macchine misteriose. Attirato dalla curiosità scientifica e dalle mirabolanti promesse di una guida turistica, Thomas Senlin, mite preside di una scuola di provincia, decide di visitarla. Anzi, gli sembra che, con i suoi lussuosi Bagni, sia proprio la meta ideale per la sua luna di miele con Marya. Solo che, appena arrivati, i due sposi si perdono tra la folla di abitanti, turisti e furfanti. Determinato a ritrovare la moglie, Senlin inizia una lunga ricerca tra bassifondi, sale da ballo e teatri di burlesque. Dovrà sopravvivere a tradimenti, assassini, e ai lunghi cannoni di una fortezza volante. Ma se vuole riavere Marya, sopravvivere non basterà: dovrà sapersi trasformare da uomo di lettere in uomo d'azione.

Una lettura magnetica. Questo titolo mi stuzzicava dall'annuncio della Oscar Vault, dalla copertina che è semplice eppur straordinaria, alla trama che promette un qualcosa di incredibile. Ma mai mi sarei aspettata così tanto. Non mi sono lasciata scappare l'opportunità di far parte di questo evento, anche se ho aspettato un attimo prima di iniziarlo. Infatti arrivavo dalla chiusura de "Il Mare Senza Stelle" che se avete letto e amato come me capirete il vuoto che lascia al lettore e che incubo si presenti dopo, ovvero: cosa leggere, perchè è davvero molto difficile trovare un libro vagamente alla sua altezza; infatti non mi sono lanciata subito in questa lettura (per timore di un confronto che me lo avrebbe potuto far odiare dalla prima pagina), ma ho cercato altro ed ho faticato ad iniziare nuovi libri (o riprenderne in mano alcuni già iniziati). Ma dopo una settimana, stanca e curiosa, finalmente mi sono decisa ad iniziarlo e ne sono stata completamente risucchiata. L'ho finito in meno di due giorni, anche se avrei potuto fare una tirata unica un pomeriggio.  Una storia incredibile, resa davvero interessante dallo stile dell'autore che riesce a far scorrere i capitoli in maniera sconvolgente. Un libro che se ti prende, si divora. Ovviamente, oltre la bravura nella scrittura, Bancroft ci porta in una storia estremamente originale e terribilmente intricata, in cui ci troveremo ad aver a che fare con Thomas Senlin, un eroe davvero improbabile, pieno di difetti, che si ritrova al centro di un'avventura assurda, ma che non smette mai di lottare. E noi finiremo con l'amarlo per tutto questo.  Inizia tutto su un treno, che sta portando Senlin e sua moglie Marya in viaggio di nozze alla Torre di Babele. Una destinazione insolita per due neo sposi, ma è sempre stato il sogno di Thomas visitarla ed i due approfittano di quell'occasione per farlo. Già da subito capiamo che sono due anime molto diverse fra di loro: lui sui 35 anni, il preside ed insegnante della cittadina da cui entrambi provengono, una persona estremamente seria, timida e che sta per conto suo; lei l'opposto, gioviale, allegra, vivace, e dieci anni più giovane di lui. Eppure si amano moltissimo.  «Mi hai reso impossibile leggere un libro in pace. Quando non ci sei, fisso le parole e basta, finché non rotolano giù dalla pagina in una pozza sul mio grembo. Anziché leggere me ne sto lì seduto e rivivo le ore trascorse con te, e sono più affascinato da quella storia che da qualunque cosa possa aver scribacchiato l’autore. Non sono mai stato solo in vita mia, ma ora, per la prima volta, lo sono. Quando non ci sei, mi sento una specie di relitto depresso. Pensavo di capire il mondo abbastanza bene. Ma tu l’hai trasformato di nuovo in un mistero. E fa paura, è spaventoso ed è meraviglioso e voglio che vada avanti così. Voglio tutti i tuoi misteri. E, se potessi, ti darei cento pianoforti. Farei…» Purtroppo però i loro piani vanno in fumo quando i due si separano alla base della Torre, durante una svista nell'enorme mercato che la circonda. Senlin per un po' la cerca in quei dintorni, finché non capisce che potrebbe esser tutto inutile e che deve iniziare la salita, sperando che Marya si sia attenuta al loro piano e i due possano rincontrarsi alla loro meta finale al terzo piano della Torre, ovvero i Bagni. «Non dire a nessuno che stai cercando tua moglie». «E allora come la trovo?» Il tono del preside era incredulo, quasi condiscendente. Sempre pedalando con vigore, si attaccò alla sua cannuccia. «Con i tuoi occhi, la tua intelligenza e sempre per conto tuo. Con tutta probabilità non ci riuscirai mai. Le donne vengono aspirate dalla Torre come le ceneri da una canna fumaria.» Tutto ciò che Senlin credeva di sapere sulla Torre di Babele viene messo presto in discussione e si ritrova ad aver a che fare con una realtà totalmente diversa da qualsiasi cosa avesse mai immaginato ed a scontrarsi con un mondo verso il quale non era assolutamente preparato. Dovrà rimettere tutto in discussione, a partire da se stesso e ciò che è disposto a fare pur di trovare sua moglie. Cambiando sempre di più mano a mano che sale di livello e si scontra con nuovi piani, trovandosi in situazioni assurde che lo obbligheranno a farsi ancora più arguto ed intelligente, oltre che scaltro, per salvarsi la vita, ritrovare Marya e tornare insieme a casa.  «Qui non c’è una sola persona che ti aiuterà. La brava gente non ha né i mezzi né l’intenzione, e la gente cattiva ti prosciugherà e basta. Ti venderanno indiscrezioni, mappe, guide, cose più utili per avvolgere il pesce che a trovare una moglie! Riceverai tanto aiuto che non ti resterà più uno shekel. Ipotizzando che tu non sia già povero come uno Sparviero…» Senlin è il punto centrale (unico) intorno a cui leggiamo la storia, un personaggio magnetico nelle sue imperfezioni, mediante il quale l'autore ci terrà col fiato sospeso molto spesso. Impreparati anche noi a ciò che la Torre ha in serbo, seppur riesce abilmente a mescolare frammenti di azione al passato di Senlin, per farcelo conoscere meglio e capire la storia e l'amore fra lui e Marya. Un uomo che si trova obbligato ad adattarsi ad una realtà ricca di violenza ed imprevedibilità; a dubitare di chiunque, nonostante sia di animo estremamente gentile e buono, e voglia conservare queste parti di sé ed aver fiducia nel prossimo; una persona qualunque che si trova davanti sfide e scelte difficili e pericolose, il tutto per ritrovare sua moglie.  Non permettere mai a un itinerario rigido di scoraggiarti dall’intraprendere un’avventura inattesa. - Guida per tutti alla Torre di Babele Un romanzo davvero molto bello, che è solo il primo di questa serie composta da quattro volumi (l'ultimo in pubblicazione l'anno prossimo) che si spera arrivino presto per soddisfare la curiosità di noi lettori. Credo sia difficile non restarne ammaliati e se vi conquista vorrete leggerne ancora, "dovrete" sapere come continuerà questa storia, che è solo al principio nonostante queste pagine siano davvero dense di avvenimenti.  Non potete assolutamente lasciarvelo scappare.

I lived in a place called Bancroft, a small place between Ottawa and Toronto. I moved away from the city at nineteen, I've always disliked the city life. Too much sound, too many people, also the fact that you could be robbed at any moment. I always felt uneasy there, I'd admire the people that didn't care, but soon realized I couldn't be like them. Not caring felt impossible to me sometimes, caring about the news, the expenses, and the stray dog that always came to my door. My sister would call me a worrier, and I'd say I care too much. I still respected her opinion though, maybe I was a worrier, and when I think about it, I probably am. Having two locks on my front and back door, managing my dogs diet thoroughly, but at the same time it felt like I didn't care, which was extremely confusing to me. Most of the time I would just sit on my couch reading a book for the whole day, forgetting about my schedule, until I felt my dog nudge my arm. Having a female Canadian Eskimo was a handful, but she needed help back in Toronto, so I took her with me. Bancroft would be amazing for her, and I was right. Now, what is her name you might ask? Well it's Luna, Harry Potter I know. I adore the Harry Potter books, at this point I've read them over too many times to count. I love Luna to death, and well moving to an isolated cabin alone may seem fun, everyone needs some company.

I walked down the same path I went down everyday. Luna happily running around, playing with sticks, despite breaking them instantly every time. It was early in the morning, around 6am, the usual time I'd go down to the dock to read. The first Harry Potter book in my hand, ready to read the series all over again. I made my way down the stone steps, "Luna!" I called out. A loud rustle came from the bushes beside the stone steps. She popped her cute head out, her tongue hanging out happily. I smiled at her, "come on darling," I said while continuing to make my way down the steps. The dock was small, but was functional. I plan on rebuilding it, adding more width, I have the supplies, just not the strength. I stepped onto the wobbly wood, being careful not to fall. But, lost my balance due to Luna running full force down here. She jumped right into the water causing a large splash. I walked over to the edge of the dock, her tail peering out of the water, still visibly wagging. She climbed up the ladder happily (which was on an angle), trotting right over to me. Shaking the water off her fur, I laughed as I got damp. "You're in for it now!" I said, Luna quickly ran away as I chased her. She suddenly halted facing the trees, I jogged over to her, trying to see what she was staring down. A large rustle came from the woods, I tried to look closer, but the trees caused to much shade. Luna let out a loud bark, then ran full force into the woods. "Luna!" I called out, she obviously wasn't coming back, so I ran in after her. I ran aimlessly, trying to follow to sound of pattering feet and the occasional barks. "Luna!" I called out again, running deeper into the woods. Finally, I saw her standing there in the distance, I couldn't quite make out why she stopped, but I ran up to her. I stopped dead in my tracks as what as in front of her. A wolf. My heart began to pound, my palms sweaty, I was scared as to what may happen. Slowly, I crouched down, "Luna," I said quietly. Still, she stood there not budging. The wolf was large, bigger than any I have ever seen before, almost the size of me. Its grey coat shined in the subtle sunlight, its eyes a soft brown with a hint of green, almost like human eyes. I titled my head slightly as I stared at the animal, slowly standing up. Suddenly, the creature let out a low growl, Luna quickly scurried away, running in the direction of the house. I stood there in disbelief. The wolf stepped forward, its paws huge, probably the size of my face. I went to take a step backwards, but tripped on a trees root, falling backwards onto my bottom. The wolf slowly made its way over to me, staying low to the ground. It nudged my foot lightly, encouraging me to get up. I carefully got up, being aware of my surroundings. The wolf was my height, slightly taller, it lowered its head, so I could stare into its eyes. A howl could be heard in the distance, the wolf's eyes turned a bright yellow, then quickly ran away. I stood there in disbelief, my heart pounding, I felt dizzy. Suddenly, everything went black...

for ray! (i apologize in advance if these don't make sense, i'm a little brain foggy atm) (also at this point its so long i'm gonna make a separate post for coldbloodedward so its not a huge fricking post for you to read)

For one thing I'd love to have him meet my muse Marie! She's an empath too, though it is different than how his powers work. I'm not fully sure how they would interact, maybe they have trouble because their powers are fighting against each other in some way. But Marie is one of those people who hides their trauma by being super happy and sweet, i forget the word for it. I doubt she'd see Ray as anything less than a potential new friend or - once she knows he's an empath - a potential mentor if he'd like to be. Sort of a 'we'll figure this shit out together' type mentorship. Marie grew up in a cult that used her powers as a way to put people who'd supposedly committed holy crimes and crimes against them. So if Ray ever opened up about his trauma from Bancroft she'd be one to understand in some manner. Overall just. . . the idea of marie being a support and a friend in a way most people can't be due to a lack of understanding is what i'm thinking of.

okay so! My muse jay @cripplemagic has. . . well multiple mcu verses cos i can't decide which one i like the most. but they specifically have one where they're inhuman. on top of that they know sign language (American sign language and tiny bits of Japanese sign language as well) In that same verse they were a SHIELD agent up until TWS. When the whole ordeal with terregenesis spreading went down they already had gone through it. Maybe they're sort of a frenemy? Understanding his plight as someone who's new to the whole thing but also being kind of standoffish and rude to him because they just don't know how to properly direct their anger at those they're really angry at. They want to help they just. . . struggle to know how. or simply: the two keep meeting at the worst times at the shield medical department.

I've completely lost full on ideas and i'm so sorry. however other muses i think ray might interact with in an interesting way: Yunseo ; she really doesn't like shield at all nor does she really like humans. she'd either be an antagonistic force or just. . . ambivalent. Luna ; a mutant and an activist for powered people of all kinds. someone who's naturally empathic without any power enhancing it. She would definitely love on ray and support him AND her mutant abilities are ones where she can create essentially any chemical compound and. . . idk how to explain it, secrete it? from her fingers or other parts of her body? 'secrete' feels disgusting to use. BUT LONG STORY SHORT she's smart with chemistry and once she sees a compound and understands its components she can make it. So if he needs a caffeine boost, she can just give him a tap and boop! caffeine boost! :D
