alright, some people were interested about this, so i'll try to explain it better. also disclaimer, i am not trying to direct hate or anything, and i hope i am not coming off that way.

in the post above, i said it is never about who is topping who. that statement still stands. the dkbk/bkdk separation, although conceived by top/bottom dynamic opinions, slowly expanded its meaning as the manga progressed. meaning, for some of us, dkbk/bkdk are not just differentiated sexually, but also in every other aspect.

but why? i see you ask. this confuses a lot of switch shippers, and such confusion is understandable. how are these two characters so different based on a mere four letters? i hear you and i am going to explain my perspective in hopes that it will become clearer.

as i have already stated, such fandom divisions occur due to variation of opinion catalysed by identity. and another person reblogged asking how the hell the sfw variation works. to understand what i meant, one must begin from the roots that make the dkbk/bkdk flower. i.e., we must look at bkdk as two separate characters first.

bkdks/dkbks both may have different ways of seeing the boys. switch shippers, you are included. one of you might think deku is sensitive, and he needs support from katsuki to be more confident. others will say deku is a brash, aggressive boy who cannot control his feelings. either way, we all have our own headcanons. then you look at katsuki––some people, commonly ktdks, see katsuki as socially dominant, aggressive, quite outgoing, etc. others see katsuki as timid, quiet, often keeping to himself and sensitive.

it's quite literally based off opinion. we take these characters from canon and add onto them; now take this idea and put the characters in a relationship. a timid katsuki x a possessive obsessed izuku... or a shy timid izuku x confident brash katsuki. i hope the patterns are forming in your head.

so when i saw sfw, i mean literally these characters as they exist, and different dynamic shippers may share common hcs which affect how bkdk/dkbk appear when they date etc. does that make sense? because think––is it not common to see dkbks say that katsuki is a princess? and how many ktdks would subscribe to that notion?

is it arbitrary? yes. all of this is. they are merely 2d men, after all. but the fandom is how it is, and the tags must be respected. any other questions? pls lmk. i love discussing this stuff!!

Something that frustrated me a lot is how segregated bkdk and dkbk are from each other, like, It is the same characters! aren't we all on the same side?

But in the end, the difference is apparent when you read how they portray Izuku, I think that the thing, especially after chapter 431, is that people focus so much on Katsuki being 'rejected' that now Izuku is the that has to chase him (gain)

Their characterization changes so much depending on if bkdk or dkbk, at some point it stops being about who is topping who

we love a "shut up" / "make me" but consider: "start talking" / "make me"

as in like. proud character who refuses to talk about how they feel about the other because it's mortifying & makes them feel awfully exposed & everything they say are lies or half veiled truths or crafty clever words designed to circumvent honesty and it's so damn annoying that the other character finally snaps and forces them to start talking properly, pushes them until they cant think of any more schemes or poetic sardonicism or conniving comments to evade the truth, strips them of their mask to leave their vulnerabilities bare and bleeding & now all they can do is spill their thoughts & emotions out & spell out desire with unlacquered transparency
