Traveling with Wriothesley: Day 5

"So here we are at last, standing in front of that big tree." Wriothesley placed one hand on his hip, taking in the view right before their eyes. "It wasn't much of a walk." The traveler replied, wearing a casual smile on their face. Wriothesley chuckles, admiring the traveler's stamina. "Of course. Though, I'm still getting used to the feeling of walking through the sand." "Hehe, need me to carry you, oh Your Grace?" The traveler jokes around with a mischievous grin. Wriothesley plays along, mimicking their expression. "Ha, can you? Oh carry me, almighty traveler." Together, they laughed - enjoying their classic banter. After a moment of laughter, they paused to look at the view once more. "It's so beautiful... isn't it? To think that a god's remains... could leave behind such beauty." The traveler says while looking up at the tree. Wriothesley glances at the traveler, locking his eyes on them. "...Yeah, beautiful indeed."

"Here is where the previous hydro archon, Egeria, passed away." The traveler guided Wriothesley through the path leading to Amrita Pool. The Duke looks around, adoring the flowers around the scenery. "It looks so peaceful in here. And wait, is that a fairy?" Distracted by the Pari relaxing by the water, Wriothesley asked. "Hahah, no, silly. But I guess they are like fairies in a way?" The Traveler giggled, adoring Wriothesley's curiosity. "They're Pari, the creatures I told you about. It's said they're a race descending from the Divine bird, Simurgh." "Ah, I see. So they're like, hmm... Sigewinne? The Melusines came from Elynas, the dragon, right?" Wriothesley asks further, taking in the information he just learned. The traveler nods, "Yep! Kinda like that. Well, they're both a cute race, aren't they?" The traveler giggled as they beamed at the sight of the Pari. Wriothesley chuckles softly, "I suppose you're right." They focus their attention back to the Amrita pool, where Egeria rests. "I can't believe I'm standing right here... in front of our creator's resting place," Wriothesley recalls the truth about Egeria's sin - the creation of Fontaine citizens. "That's if I'm actually Fontainian." He shrugs, considering that he is an orphan, unsure of his origins. "Well, you grew up in Fontaine. You can consider her your creator... in some way." The traveler answered. "Let's wish her peace and whisper our wishes..." Wriothesley nods in agreement, both closing their eyes in silence. Paying their respect to the fallen hydro archon, Egeria.

After visiting Egeria's resting place, the two are back on track, walking through the vast land of Sumerian deserts. On their way to their next destination...

"Wait, look at our shadows! So cute." The traveler pointed out, smiling at their figures. Wriothesley nods with a smile. "You're so small. I could probably fit you in my jacket." "Hey! I'm not some pet." The traveler pouted, keeping their mood lighthearted. "Ugh, more sand in my boots," Wriothesley said as he stopped walking to shake off his leg, trying to get some sand out of his clothes. "Hehe, I did warn you about that." The traveler shrugs as they watch Wriothesley's reaction. "I have an idea. Why don't you dress like the Eremites? Their style would suit you too, I think." Wriothesley is familiar with Eremites and knows how they dress. A lightbulb pops above his head, giving him a playful thought. "Oh? You wanna see me barely covered, huh?" The Duke smirks, teasing the traveler. The thought didn't even cross their mind, but the realization made them blush. "That wasn't my intention at all!" Feeling flustered, the traveler protested. "Hahaha! How cute." Wriothesley chuckles, enjoying their companion's reaction. "But really, I dig that idea. Would be better if you pair up with me though. The Eremite style would also look good on you."

they'll hold you tight like never before, whispering either comforting, loving, and careful words to you or true and genuine words of wisdom for you to take and use for later on. whether you sob in their arms or feel their embrace in silence— or if you spill everything you've been holding in, they'll take you into a kind hug and let you do what you're comfortable doing.

never do they force anything out of you, nor would they ever force you to be silent in their embrace. their comfort is for you, and while they hold you, it's their job to let you feel comfort in their arms. forcing you into anything simply wouldn't do any good for either of you.

though, if you wish to be left alone, they will let you alone— albeit after asking a few times if you're truly okay with the solitude. they want you to know that they care, and they'll show it by respecting you, your boundaries, and what you want and need.

it doesn't matter what struggle or struggles you've faced or that you're facing. they'll be there to comfort you when needed, and they'll give you the proper space when necessary. they care about you, and they'd also love for you to know that.

so, no matter what, there's always a place for you to go, whether that be in their arms or by a window in the solace of night where either storms or stars hang over the sky, they'll care about you, regardless of where they are or where you are.

Heavy footsteps echo throughout the lavish halls. A soldier clad in golden armor makes her way to a large door that leads to their Grace’s quarters. With an equally heavy hand she pushes the door open and there she sees your doppelgänger sitting on their golden throne

They turn their attention towards the lowly soldier and the look in their eyes sent shivers down her spine

“What is it?” Your doppelgänger spoke coldly

The soldier bowed before them and hesitantly whispered “Uhh, the imposter… was captured, your Grace…”

“Where are they being held?”

“In a maximum security prison in Fontaine, your Grace…”

Suddenly the room was filled with a maniacal laughter, the soldier looked up to see your doppelgänger doubled over in laughter

“Finally! That rat has been caught! I bet they’re a crying mess!” Your doppelgänger cackled out while falling out from their throne before standing up at full height, towering over the kneeling soldier. “Hehe, you’re dismissed. I have to make arrangements for that filthy imposter’s execution.” They said with an evil smirk that also uncanny

Rough and calloused hands grab your arms and drag you into an underwater prison, which you learned it’s named the Fortress of Meropide

Your feet drag against the iron floor, the guards don’t let you walk, preferring to drag you wherever they are taking you. You take in the surroundings and see that the walls and floors are all made of iron and has dingy atmosphere, you just can’t help wallow in your own misery

Finally the guards stop in front of a door with a deadbolt lock on it, a third guard presses in a code and the door opens. The guards shove you into the room and slowly walk through the door. You look up at them to see they’re taking out their batons. Realizing what’s going to happen you instinctively curled up into a little ball, making sure to protect your head and stomach

The guards bring their batons down on your helpless form, their blows mercilessly and brutal. You don’t know how you were beaten for you just pay attention to the floor, mainly the bolts protruding from it. Examining each unique scratch the bolts have was all you could focus on, even counting every scratch you could see, you were so focused that you didn’t notice the loud sound of the door opening

“What is the meaning of this?!” The strong voice broke you out of your trance and made the guards stop beating you

“Your Grace! We’re just-”

“I don’t want to hear it! Get out before your punishment is worse than it is right now!”

The footsteps of the guards quickly became more quite as they rushed out of the room. You lifted your head to see a muscular man with black and white hair kneeling over you

“Don’t move, I’ll get Sigewinne to look at your wounds.”

Your eyes felt heavy and before you knew it

A small girl with two unusual horns on her head that look soft to the touch entered your room, she looked uncomfortabled in your presence. She slowly walked towards you and stopped by your bed

“I’m going to need you to take off your jacket.”

You followed her instructions and put the Fatui jacket right next to you. A look of horror filled the young girl’s face, you saw a few tears forming in her tear line. Before you could ask Sigewinne what’s wrong she blinks away her tears and starts to bandage your bruised arms

The two of you didn’t utter a word to each other and after she finished patching you up she handed you a cup filled with a strange liquid

“Drink this, it’ll help with the healing process.”

You wordlessly took the drink and examined it, the concoction gave you an uneasy feeling like this drink wasn’t meant for human consumption

“Don’t worry, it’s not poisoned.” You looked up to see the same man from before. “It’s safe to drink but it will taste weird.”

Your eyes felt don’t have much confidence but at least if is poisoned your death won’t be at the hands of your imposter. You downed the drink and instantly your mouth is filled with an unpleasant taste, it almost taste like that awful medicine your parents forced you to take as a kid whenever you were sick

You wonder how they and your friends are doing?

How long has time past since you’ve been gone? Have they filed a missing person case? Your taken out of your thoughts when Wriothesley speaks

“Since you’re an usual case, I have decided that you will be in solitary confinement. You will be given 3 meals a day and be allowed some time out of your room.” He heads towards the door and Sigewinne hesitantly follows him, before he could close the door you see Sigewinne wordlessly mouthing a word that you can’t quite understand

Before you think you a grasp on it the door is closed and you hear it locked leaving you alone with only your thoughts to keep you company

Outside Wriothesley walks into his office and makes a phone call

Half way across the world a phone rings and a woman picks it up

“Hello this is the Liyue Qixing, Huixin speaking.” The secretary spoke with a little hesitation due to her limited experience working a telephone. “Yes, he’s here. Wait one moment.” Huixin stood up and handed the phone to a man with long white hair. “Mister Neuvillette you have a call.”

“Hello?”

“Neuvillette, the imposter is in my custody, they’re in solitary and have way of escaping.”

“That’s good to hear. I will let them know.” Neuvillette puts the phone down on the base before turning towards the other envoys and sharing the news with them

“That’s a relief.” Jean said

“We shouldn’t celebrate just yet, we must take every precaution to ensure that they don’t escape again.” Al haitham stated

“I don’t know why their Grace insist on waiting and not killing that vile imposter.” Kujo Sara crossed her arms

“Questioning their Grace’s actions, that’s almost blasphemous.” The Natlan high priestess joked

“Chimalma is right, we are no position to question the actions the highest among the gods.” Ayato advises

“So who is going to make their Grace, aware of this recent update?” Ganyu asked looking around towards the others in the room

“Their Grace is already aware.” Nigguang announced causing the others to look at her in surprise

“H-how did they take the news, relieved I bet.” Ganyu asked

“They weren’t relieved. I would say more elated.” Ningguang explained while leaving the part out where your imposter looked maniacal. The Tianquan won’t forget the look of fear on the poor soldier’s face as they described their Grace’s features to look almost demonic like

Staring up at the same wall you’ve been staring at for the past couple of days, the only reason you know a few days have past is because of the food the guards have given you

You can recognize some breakfast food items, like toast with butter, eggs, pancakes, and a few strips of bacon. The food is okay, most times the food is tolerable while some it feels almost inedible. You miss the food you grew up with, the smile on your face it brings to your small features

Without anything to do you think back on your home

Your friends and family

How are they doing? Have they notice that you were gone? Have they even file a missing person report? All questions that rumble around in your mind

Another question that you often asks yourself is where are the twins and Childe?

Were they captured along with you? No, Aether could easily open up a portal to the abyss when things get too hot, so why hasn’t he opened a portal in your cell? Have they decided that your too much trouble to save? All of this mess started when you first arrived here, everyone was happily living their lives until everything went out of whack

Perphaps the twins and Childe thought that it was better for you to be killed off by your doppelgänger

Tears filled your vision, you curled up into a ball and cried

You cried and cried

Until you had enough of crying

“I going to get out of here.” You told yourself. “I’m not going to lay here and wait to die.” You stood up from your cot and wiped away your tears. “No matter what. I will get out of here!”

You hear the lock on the door and it opens to reveal Wriothesley. He has a lunch tray in his hands, he walks in and put the tray on the desk in your cell, a pleasant and welcomed surprise compared to the guards just throwing your food on the floor and making it spill onto the floor

Wriothesley looks around to see the baroness of your room. “I came in to see how you’re holding up.” Wriothesley sees your tear stained face and had to fight the urge to go over to you and to hug you, take you somewhere that isn’t this hellhole. He doesn’t know why but he composed himself before continuing on. “Since you aren’t allow out of your cell like the other inmates, can I offer you some form of entertainment? Within reason of course.”

You took a while to think of what you want to say before deciding on something that might help you

“I want a book.”

In the depths of Teyvat, there a sky of deep blues and purples is looked at by a certain harbinger. A sense of nostalgia fills his chest, but before he can get too wrapped up in his old memories he turned towards the twins, mainly Aether who is trying and failing at composing himself

“What do you mean, their Grace is in the Fortress of Meropide?!” Yelled the prince

“That is what our intel suggests, your highness.” Spoke an abyss mage

“If their in the fortress of Meropide, then why can’t we sneak in and take them out of there?” Paimon asked

“It isn’t that simple, all of Teyvat knows that we’re on their Grace’s side and will do everything in their power to stop us. They might even try to kill us if they see us approaching the prison.” Lumine explains

“Maybe we can get one of the lectors to disguise themselves and enter the prison?” Aether wondered aloud

“I don’t think that’s necessary.” Childe spoke

The twins and Paimon turned towards the ginger, Aether stormed other and grabbed him by the collar

“What the hell do you mean, harbinger?!” Aether hissed out. “Their Grace is in a maximum security prison and their execution is quickly approaching, time is of the essence!”

“We both know that the Fatui wants their grace safe and sound, so don’t think I’m not as concerned as you!” Childe grabbed onto the blond’s wrists

“You two, stop it! We’re all worried about their Grace!” Lumine shouted as she got in between the two men

“I know that the news has already reached Snezhnaya, and knowing a certain associate of mine, she’s already has a plan to get their Grace out.”

In the overworld of Fontaine, rounds of applause are held in a theater

Even some roses are thrown on the stage where a young magician and his assistant are standing. The two look nearly identical except for his sister who had cat ears and a tail

“Thank you, you all have been wonderful tonight!” Spoke the magician before walking off stage and returning backstage

There a blonde boy was waiting for them with a phone in his hands

“Lyney. You have a call, it’s Father.”

Going up to the young man, Lyney takes the phone and puts it against his ear

“Hello Lyney.”

do you think that sumeru is just as bad as natlan? i was so upset when people stopped talking about it

Sumeru is bad. It's pretty, I'll give it that, it was my favourite nation when I used to play the game (I mained Faruzan), but it has its sum of terrible things

I don't know much about the source material, aka the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. My post was about Natlan because if there's something I know about is my homeland.

I regret overlooking the signs hyv gave us of its racism early on, in 3.0. Seeing the Natlan trailers and leaks really opened my eyes on how I was being the kind of person that doesn't speak up on bad things when they happened to others. I don't wish that upon anyone. I hope we can have our eyes open for other games showing these signs in the future.

I won't "rank" that kind of thing because 1. I know next to nothing about Sumeru's source material (except for my share of self study in it's pattern art history) and 2. Natlan is not out as of now. I think it's bad, but I don't actually know much beyond the whitewashing.

I hope Hoyoverse didn't use their Gods' names similarly with how they dis to us, yoruba and candomblé. I can't remember. All my love to my brothers and sisters around the world, in those places!

Neuvillette -> Arlecchino: Still a bit wary of her, especially since he figured out she threatened Furina, but once those two worked things out he mostly got past it and the two are friends.

Wriothesley -> Arlecchino: Doesn't like Fatui in general but he can't deny how much she helped Fontaine.

Arlecchino -> Wriothesley: Impressed by the work he did to Meropide, but after hearing how he tormented with Lyney just for fun to the point it activated his darkness she's been resisting the urge to go down there and slap him.

Wriothesley -> Furina: Doesn’t know her too well but thinks she’s nice from the little he’s seen

Furina -> Wriothesley: Doesn’t know him that well but Neuvillette talks about him fondly and that’s enough for him to get her seal of approval

(Context, Ei get's exiled for a bit after the Archon quest and when she's allowed back she and Ayato are almost dragged into an arranged political marriage to keep things stable, so the gang, led by Miko and Thoma, have to stop the wedding. They do, but Miko repurpose's it into a wedding for her and Ei.)

Ei -> Ayato: Overall thinks he's pleasant and dependable, but their relationship is strictly professional.

Ayato -> Ei: Glad she's finally ending the Decree's holding Inazuma back, but sweet Celestia never make them almost get married again-

Ei -> Miko: Never stopped loving her but prior to them getting remarried thought that Miko hated her.

Miko -> Ei: Missed her dearly for those 500 ish years but would rather die than admit it, the wedding ended up being the push she needed to finally admit she loved her.

Miko -> Thoma: Not as fun to tease as Gorou but still fun, has more respect for him now.

Thoma -> Miko: Still a bit afraid of her but nowhere near as much.

Thoma -> Ayato: Loves but is worried about how the nobles would react to them being together, main reason their relationship was a secret to the point the arranged marriage almost happened.

Ayato -> Thoma: Loves him to the ends of the earth, only kept the relationship secret due to Thoma's worries, but once he gatecrashed the wedding Ayato had no problem finally proclaiming his love.

Ayato -> Miko: Worried she's a bad influence on Ayaka but outside of that genuinely enjoys her company.

Miko -> Ayato: Known him since he was little, glad there's someone in Inazuma who can keep up with her.

Ei -> Thoma: Barely knows he exists but is happy for him and Ayato.

Description: Hello I just got an idea, what if Wriothesley had a wife and daughter living in the court of Fontaine, the reader being his daughter, and they'd occasionally visit him and they met the traveler and Paimon during their most recent visit and they decided to ask Wriothesley about them.

“Excuse me,” a small voice asks from behind Lumine and Paimon. They turn around to find a young girl staring up in awe at Paimon; a woman stands behind her, one hand on her shoulder and the other holding a bag. “Are you a fairy?”

“Who, Paimon?” The little girl nods excitedly, eyes twinkling. “No, Paimon’s Paimon!”

In all honesty, the floating guide isn’t sure how to answer that question. So she diverts the kids' attention.

“What are you doing here?”

The little girl looks back at, presumably, her mother who offers an encouraging nod.

“I’m here to see my daddy!”

“And who’s your daddy?” Lumine asks, crouching down to be eye level with the child.

Something about the little girl looks familiar, but what really catches her eye is the silver locket hanging around her neck. There’s an incredibly familiar wolf emblem raised on the metal with an opal eye set in, the animal and the color invoking a certain prison warden.

“Well, well, well,” Wriothesley’s voice sung. “And what crimes have we committed this time?”

The little girl spun around so fast everyone was worried she would knock herself off balance. A wide grin broke across her face and a high pitched squeal bubbled up from the back of her throat.

“Daddy!” She yelled, sprinting towards the Duke and lunging at him.

“There’s my little princess,” he laughed, catching her under the arms and spinning her up in the air.

She laughed as he peppered her face in kisses, resting her on his hip as the woman approached them. She kissed him, earning a retching sound from the kid, and Wriothesley wrapped his other arm around her waist to tuck her into his side.

“Traveler, Paimon!” He greeted the two. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”

“We were just getting ready to head off to Natlan,” Paimon explained as they walked over. “We were saying goodbye to all our friends.

“Daddy has friends?!” The child gasped.

In response, Wriothesely knocked his head against hers and earned himself a whine. He stared into her eyes for a long moment until she broke down into a fit of giggles and buried her face in his neck.

“Yes, I do,” he laughed, leaning his head against hers. “Why don’t you introduce yourself, huh?”

He kissed her cheek as she turned to look at Lumine and Paimon.

“My name is Y/n.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Y/n,” Lumine smiled. “My name is Lumine.”

“And Paimon’s Paimon!” Paimon turned to Wriothesely as the little girl tucked herself back into her father’s shoulder. “We didn’t know you had a family.”

“We live in the court,” the woman, presumably his wife, said. She extended her hand and introduced herself. “Unfortunatelyyy someeeoneee,” she dragged out the end of her words, “was sentenced to visiting her daddy by the chief justice himself.”

“Since when does Neuvillette concern himself with your visits?”

“Since you’ve been so busy that you couldn’t come see us,” she kissed his cheek before turning back to Lumine and Paimon. “He’s been so busy since the flood, Monsieur Neuvillette passed on Mademoiselle Sigewinne’s concerns that our beloved Duke was working too hard. Trying to make time for us.”

“So Sigewinne told on me,” Wriothesley huffed.

“Oh, daddy! I lost a tooth!”

“You did? Let me see.”

As Y/n pulled back her upper lip to show off the hole where her tooth used to be, letting Wriothesley exam the space, her mother addressed the traveling duo again.

“Would you like to join us for tea before you set back off? I brought cake.”

She held up the bag she’d been carrying.

“Cake? Lumine can we?”

“Sure, why not.”

"You know, I can't help but look at that giant tree. Just how many gigantic trees are there in Sumeru?" Wriothesley asked the Traveler, walking through the endless sand.

"Hehe, too many to count actually." The traveler smiled and stopped walking, looking up at the giant tree before them. "That is where the previous archon, Lady Egeria rests. That giant blue tree are part of her remains." The traveler explains.

"Wait, for real? You know, I've never been one to read history, but damn. That's awesome." Wriothesley was so impressed, you could see the way his eyes widened in surprise.

The traveler nods and continues their story. "Yeah, she died here during a battle. I wanted to take you to Amrita pool, where her body is said to rest. Maybe introduce you to my Pari friends as well." The traveler looks around, searching for signs of Pari nearby.

"Pari? What's that? Sounds like a fairy." Wriothesley's curiosity grows, he asks one question after another.

"Hehe, you'll find out when I meet Sorush again. She's a real mouthy fella." The traveler giggles in excitement, eager to see Wriothesley's reaction as they continue their travel in the deserts of Sumeru.

"Here, I had to play the drums to perform a ritual. Well, it was all for the sake of helping the Pari close the hole in the sky." The traveler explains more about their journey. "Drums? I'd like to see you play that." Curious and intrigued, Wriothesley raised a brow and smirked, imagining the traveler playing a drum. "And, a hole in the sky, you said? Just what kind of world crisis do you go through all the time?" With a mix of awe and shock, Wriothesley asked. "Well... I'm a traveler. Solving problems also gets me food to keep going." The traveler shrugs. "And why the sudden desire to watch me play drums?" They pout to tease the Duke. "Hahaha, why not? It's just you and me. Other than our voices, it would be nice to listen to music once in a while." Wriothesley playfully replies and walks off to another spot. The traveler follows along, still pouting to keep up with their banter. "What, are you already getting tired of my voice?" Wriothesley turned around, facing the traveler. "I did not say that," He raised a brow and crossed his arms. "You can talk all day and I wouldn't get tired of it, you know?" He started explaining himself. Amused by the Duke's refute, the traveler couldn't help but smile.

"Well, it's been a long day. What do you say we set up camp?" Wriothesley suggests as daylight slowly fades away. The traveler nods in agreement, following Wriothesley to a clear area. Together, they set up their camp and put up their light for the night. "It's our first night being out in the world," The traveler stretched out their arms and spoke with affection in their voice. "What do you think about it so far?" They asked, looking into Wriothesley's eyes. Wriothesley grins, his eyes beaming with joy. "All I can think about is how much I'm enjoying all of this." He nods while explaining his emotions. "This is something I never thought I would do, being the Duke and all." "Hehe, well you're not the only one enjoying this. I'm having a great time being with you." The traveler shared the same sentiments, filling the air with warmth. Slowly, they are building more respect for one another. Their trust and bond growing stronger day by day. "That's good. I would be a failure as a companion if I'm not entertaining you." Jokingly, the Duke replied. "Ah, honestly, this is too good to be true. That sometimes I worry that I'll wake up to find out it's all just a dream." Wriothesley looks up to the sky, voicing out his thoughts. The traveler fell silent for a moment, taking in the weight of the Duke's words. "If this is all just a dream, I never want to wake up then." The traveler answered with a gentle tone of voice. Somehow, their words brought relief to Wriothesley's heart.
