I am obsessed with soulmate characters. There is no (light) without (dark) there is no (sun) without (rain) there is no (day) without (night) there is no (joy) without (anger) there is no (red) without (green) there is no (love) without (hate) there is no (defense) without (offense) there is no (tide) without (moon) and these characters can be love interests, best friends, enemies, rivals, I DON'T CARE, but they understand each other like no one else does and where one goes the other follows
And this isn't about just grumpy x sunshine this is about one existing without the other. Characters where if you take one away a part of them gets taken with the other, characters whose lives are significantly altered by the absence of the other, characters who literally already do find each other in different universes.

New obsession: Godly Travelers
Okay so the Genshin rabbit hole is deep and I know I'm not the first to explore this but OH, I LOVE IT. I've been devouring genshin fics and everytime I see these things I go a lil feral
Immortal traveler who's seen millions of worlds, who's role is to witness stories and remember - it's why they were created. To travel, to witness, to tell those stories
Celestial body metaphors ARE THE SHIT: Tell me how Aether is a comet and Lumine is a star or how Lumine is the night and Aether is the sun, how they're never one without the other until they are - so the only constant universe they know is disrupted. How they've orbited each other for so long, and now they're wild and lost in a world they cannot leave.
unhealthy sibling codependence? Yep.
A traveler who cannot stay in one place. Yes, they're looking for their sibling but also, staying in one place makes the scars where their wings once were ache. Familiarity scares them. Attachment scares them. How can they be impartial witnesses once they care (but they do. They care. They don't have their sibling who they shower all their affections on, but they do have these people - these kind, wild, heartfelt people).
Tell me about this character who's eyes burn straight through the archon's soul. Who's skills and prowess impress but also terrify all who meet them. Because they may look like they belong but the world screams otherwise. Who else can carry the power of the gods but one who seeks to burn the heavens.
I want dangerous traveler - a part of them lives to fight. There is no innocence here, there's a chosen kindness.
And then give me a traveler torn in two. They want to find their twin and leave this world. They want all their friends to meet their other half. They never want to leave. They need to leave immediately. They've learned love from these people and that terrifies them. They want to attend every birthday party and festival. They know they will watch these people age and die.
They cannot fall in love, they cannot get attached, they will outlive all of these beings. That is the fate of the traveler: it doesn't matter if they choose to stay, they have to move on eventually. They have to.
But maybe for a moment that doesn't matter. Maybe they allow themselves to pretend otherwise, just for a little while... maybe they can pretend just for a little bit...
But they cannot hide the scars where their wings were or the call of the sky. They cannot fight the itch to run or explore. They cannot stop yearning for a fight - a good fight. A challenge. They cannot stop remembering.
Just... ancient-primordial-being Traveler

pairings. childhood best friend!aether x fem reader synopsis. as the abyss queen, you decide it's finally time to put an end to aether's journey. genre/warnings. angst, lingering feelings, best friends to enemies, mentions of death and murder wc. 722 a/n. brb gotta go wipe my tears
[700 years ago]
somewhere only we know - keane "is this the place we used to love? is this the place that i've been dreaming of?"
"aether!" you groan. "you've ruined everything."
the blond boy standing just a couple feet away from you scratches his neck and gives you an awkward smile. "...sorry?"
you throw the juice-stained cloth at him and it smacks him in the face before landing on the floor.
both you and aether abruptly look towards the door when you hear loud footsteps approaching the room. "what is happening?" demands an annoyed-looking lumine.
"aether spilled juice all over my brand new blankets," you whine. "i was so excited to sleep with those."
lumine rolls her eyes and walks out of the room. aether meets your eyes and a laugh spills out of his lips when he looks at your sulky expression.
he nudges your shoulder. "come on... forgive me?"
"no," you glare. "now go do the laundry, you loaf of bread."
you hear aether sigh before you stomp out. "you and my sister are becoming more similar by the day."
[present time]
war of hearts - ruelle "i can't help but love you even though i try not to"
"you've ruined everything," the familiar boy finally says. hearing his voice after all these years brings you a sort of pain that twists your heart until you feel you cannot breathe.
you close your eyes for a moment. just a moment to relive the past.
growing up with the twins. your last journey together. the unknown god separating you and lumine from aether. the cataclysm. becoming the abyss queen.
you allow yourself to let one tear fall. one tear for the boy you once loved.
"y/n!" he shouts. you can see his floating companion peer up at you with half confusion half horror. seems like aether hasn't told anyone about you. but maybe that's just because it hurts too much.
"your journey ends here, aether."
"bring back lumine," he shouts. "i know you're with her!"
you give him a look of pity. "she no longer wants anything to do with you. as do i."
"you liar-"
"wake up, aether! you don't know the truth of this world. nothing will ever be the same, we will never be the same," you shout.
a look of hurt flashes in his wide eyes. then sadness. then anger.
"just bring lumine back to me," he says as he unsheathes his sword.
"it seems you haven't heard a word i just said."
"the abyss queen?" he glares. "i will stop you if it's the last thing i do in teyvat."
aether strikes his sword, lunging at you before you easily dodge his attack and paralyze him in the air. he's unable to move his body no matter how hard he tries. his expression goes taut. "y-you haven't lost your power-"
"i'm not like you, aether." you walk closer to him. "we don't originate from the same world. have you forgotten?"
"you're not y/n. you'll nev-"
"the y/n you knew is long gone," you say softly. "and don't assume lumine is any different. she's the abyss princess after all."
aether doesn't say anything.
"join our cause, aether. become the abyss king. my king."
he struggles to get his words out as his body goes numb. "i will never- be like you."
"it looks like i was wrong about you then. i was a fool to think i'd be more important to you than those stupid lies you've been told."
he can't speak anymore and you can see it in his locked jaw. just kill him now, you tell yourself. he's only setting everything back. he's destroying everything you've worked for.
you grip your power harder against his taut body. he can't move and oh, but he's in so much pain. he's in pain because of you. he can't even scream when he wants to. he hates you. he's going to die because of you-
the hysteria clouds your vision and then-
and then...
you let him go.
aether falls to the ground with a cry.
"you can't stop me," you say. "you're powerless against the abyss. the natlan war was nothing. you are nothing."
"i-i hate you," he pants.
"oh?" a sudden pain fills your heart to the brim. "then let's hope we'll never cross paths again, traveler."

morning sunlight
characters: tighnari and reader (collei mentioned)
relationship: tighnari x reader
genre: fluff. just fluff.
summary: soft mornings with tighnari were always the best
notes: wowwww sunny actually wrote fluff?? lost the 50/50 for blade so i wrote this to cheer myself up <3 no pronouns used for reader
word count: 664
Tumblr media
soft mornings with tighnari were rare, but very much so welcomed.
due to his schedule with being a forest ranger, he was usually always busy- begrudgingly leaving early in the morning before you woke up and arriving home late in the night.
he couldn’t count how many times he had arrived home late to be greeted with the sight of you sleeping soundly on the couch; assumably having falling asleep while waiting for him.
he never failed to pick you up without complaint and carry you off to bed, keeping you close in his embrace before nodding off himself.
but there were days when collei insisted he took it off- convincing him with promises that she and the other rangers could handle it for the day.
and who was he to deny spending time with you?
the sun was rising, light peeking in through the windows and illuminating the room with soft warmth.
with a small yawn, your eyes peeked open, mind still hazy from sleep only to be greeted with the sight of your still-sleeping boyfriend.
tighnari was always so cute when he was asleep. and no matter how much he tried to protest, your opinion never changed. the way his ears twitched every so often and how his face always looked so calm- peaceful.
it was nice to see him so relaxed.
one of his hands held yours, fingers laced together loosely as his head rested on the soft pillow. he was curled on his side, facing your way.
staring at him in awe, you couldn’t stop yourself from bringing your hand up to his face, gently caressing his cheek. his skin was always so soft- it amazed you.
tighnari’s face twitched, his eyes slowly opening upon feeling your gentle touch on his face. a soft yawn left his lips as his ears twitched.
an adorable sight to behold.
seeing tighnari so sleepy in the morning was such a rare feat- but it was easily welcomed with open arms- to have such precious time with him?
you wouldn’t trade it for the world.
his own hand reached up to hold yours that was cupped his cheek, his thumb rubbing along your knuckles softly. “morning, dewdrop..”
archons, his morning voice was amazing.
with a soft smile, you rubbed your thumb gently against his cheek, “morning, nari.” you placed a soft kiss on his nose, drawing a small sigh from him.
suddenly, his arms curled around you, yanking you towards him as he buried his face into your hair. his body was warm- and he wasted no time as he tangled his legs with yours, tail curling around your waist with a small sigh.
you let out a surprised yelp, eyes growing wide as you were suddenly face to face with his chest- but you cuddled up to him regardless.
“you smell nice..” he murmured, nuzzling his nose into your hair, causing you to blush.
“nari..” you sighed, hands moving to gently grasp at his shirt, “shouldn’t we get up? it’s morning..”
“no.” tighnari gave a small noise of displeasure, arms tightening ever so slightly. “let’s stay like this a little longer.. i’ve missed you... please, flower?”
how could you deny him?
“of course.” you sighed, moving to press a soft kiss to his cheek before nuzzling back into his chest comfortably.
it didn’t take long before the room fell into a comfortable silence, both of you wrapped around each other- content and warm.
“i love you, nari..” you whispered, eyes growing heavy as sleep started to take over your mind once again.
“love you too, dewdrop..” his voice was laced with sleep, his eyes already closed as he rubbed his cheek against the top of your head.
his heartbeat was soft, filling your ears like music as you let out a soft sigh- it was so comfortable. his embraces were always ethereal.
the room was silent except for the sound of soft breathing as you fell asleep, comfortably nestled into each other’s arms.

everyone always says xiao is mysterious and i agree - but the thing is, he's not only that way because he doesn't talk a lot. it's also because when he says something, it doesn't mean it's the whole truth about him.
xiao tells lumine that he's unable to understand human emotions but he's one of the most gentle souls she's ever met. he says she shouldn't get too close to him and then, swears that he will be always there when she calls. birthdays are useless in his eyes but he makes a gift for her, nonetheless. sight seeing in the city is not his thing but he's still willing to go there with her - for her.
it's all a bunch of little white lies xiao tells her and himself; and it takes everything in lumine to pretend not to notice it.
because although he might say he's not emotional nor romantic, she sees something way different. every little gesture, like how he makes use of any excuse - no matter how flimsy it is - just to touch her and stay by her side longer. the longing glances when his gaze always searches for her figure in every room he enters. she feels his eyes linger on the expanse of her skin even when the conversation between them is over, burning in a way that makes her want to grab him by the collar of his shirt and kiss him senseless.
it makes lumine tense, too. just a little.
even when he's silent, xiao's aura is so intense...
there's more to him. perhaps, it's something he isn't truly aware of. but perhaps, he knows that emotions - that odd hunger and yearning that flashes across his face from time to time - he hides are deep enough to push him to the point of no return, swallow him whole and destroy his self-control. the enormity of fondness he holds for her is scary at times–
nonetheless... xiao lumine knows - the honest and open side of him - is kind, gentle.
no matter how careless she is, he takes care if her and is worried about her well-being more than she is. he stays by her side at night to make sure she sleeps well. his voice softens while he's speaking to her, too - when he says her name like it means everything to him. like she is everything he has ever wished for and more.
and maybe, hopefully, it's true and xiao wants lumine. just how she wants him, if not more.

MASTERLIST
Author’s Note: All characters are OOC! Please be reminded that this fanfic is Modern! AU and Highschool! AU and none of this are canons to the actual lore of Genshin Impact. I do not own Genshin Impact or the characters in the game!
Synopsis: You were a graduating high school student who somehow got involved in unfortunate events and transferred to Teyvat International School. WC: 2.8k
Next Chapter -> Chapter 17
Tumblr media
Bitter taste left your mouth as the two of you were sharing each other's saliva. You could definitely tell that Ayato has been drinking alcohol before being locked up here but has somehow sobered up.
Ayato's fingers ran through your hair until he noticed something and pulled away from your kiss to say something.
"You're wearing the accessories that I gave you back then" He said and you felt his forehead pressing against your.
"Yeah~" You said. You tried to adjust a little from your position and felt something very hard.
"So that's where you're going" He said before kissing you passionately again.
Your hands traveled on his chest and began to unbutton his shirt hastily.
"Y-Y/N!" He whimpered under you.
"Y-yeah?" You said and continued with what you're doing.
"We can't do this- I just can't… Maybe not right now…" Ayato pleaded and you got up immediately.
"S-sorry- L-let's not speak of this again." You said fixing your hair and your clothes.
"I'm gonna go text my sister that I'm with you so they don't worry about us…" Ayato pulled out his phone and began texting but there's no signal and he sighed.
"What do you mean Ayato is also missing?!" Al Haitham angrily said.
"L-look! We're trying to search for my brother too, you know!" Ayaka replied.
"You sound like you're lying." Al Haitham looked Ayaka into her eyes and frightened her a little bit.
"W-why would I lie about searching for my brother?!" Ayaka defended, cold sweat ran on her cheeks since it was her idea to lock the two of you in a tight dark room.
Coincidentally, a message was sent to Ayaka's phone.
"S-see! He just messaged me! It seems someone locked him up in a room…" She said and scrolled down further.
"And Y/N is with him!" Ayaka added.
Everyone's face lit up and they all followed Ayaka to your location.
—
It took 30 minutes before Ayaka received the text from Ayato and you found yourself sleeping on top of him as he stroked your hair.
"Ayato, don't leave me again" you mumbled.
"I won't, my lady." He smiled.
When the door suddenly opened, everyone saw that you were curled up with no care of your clothes.
"Y-you little-!" Al Haitham immediately charged in and grabbed Ayato by his collar.
"Haitham~"
"He didn't do anything to me"
He let go as soon as he heard your sweet voice.
"W-what's everyone's doing here?" You asked.
"We were looking for you Y/N! I'm glad you're safe!" Lumine said.
" 'Yato, take me home, I'm tired," You said.
Ayato got up carrying you in a bridal manner with your arms wrapped around his neck and shoulder.
Ayato's face turned red and attempted to lower his head to hide a little of it.
"Look, I'll go to the afterparty in Childe's home. I'm just going to take Y/N home safely." He said.
"Aren't you intoxicated? Do you want me to drive you both home?" Diluc suggested.
"No, I sobered up earlier." Ayato replied.
"W-well take care!" Lumine said.
"Thank you." Ayato said quietly and walked through the crowd silently as soon as he got in the parking lot.
—
"Well what are we gonna do?" Itto asked the group.
"Prepare for the after party, what else?" Childe replied annoyingly to Itto.
Somehow, Al Haitham was also dragged into the same event but he didn't mind it.
"Al Haitham, it's okay if you don't feel comfortable with us." Ayaka said to him.
"No, no, no, its okay, I don't want to decline" Al Haitham frantically replied because he knew he's a new student therefore he needs to get along with other people.
Ayato was fixin you in the backseat so you can sleep soundly since he didn't notice you were awake the entire time and took this chance to wrap your arms to his neck and pull him towards you.
"Y-Y/N! What are you doing-?!" He stopped as soon as you smashed your lips against his for the second time again.
Ayato fought back and said "Y-Y/N, the car's door is open, s-someone is going to see us!"
"Then let them!" You naughtily answered back and kissed him again.
You stopped and looked at his Eyes and opened your mouth widely and he happily accepted as he used his tongue exploring your mouth once again and you can't help it but let out muffled moans.
"You like that?" He asked and you nodded happily.
And that's where he teased you and he got up and immediately closed the door and went to the driver's seat.
"A-ayato?! Why did you do that?" You angrily said.
"I promised everyone I'd get you home so I can't get you delaying us before they see us here in the parking lot" He said as he's driving away.
"Isn't that Ayato's car? Didn't he leave like 30 minutes ago or am I hallucinating?" Lumine said as soon as they got there as well.
"You're probably hallucinating Ms. Lumine." Al Haitham said.
"Aw, spare me the formalities." Lumine said and laughed.
After a while, Ayato parked inside his residence.
"Well, I'm ordering you to carry me to my bedroom, for leaving me out like that!" You said.
"Whatever you want, my lady." He carried you.
"Do you think you're going to get away with what you did earlier? Did you know how it felt to drive with a boner distracting me while you looked so breedable in the backseat? Did you know how much it took a lot out of me?" Ayato whispered in your ear and carried you in a way that your legs were wrapped against his waist.
"Ooh~ where are we going?" You seductively asked.
"To my bedroom, what else?" He said and your eyes widened as soon as you realized you're not in your home.
"W-why am I not home?!" You frantically asked.
"Isn't this also your home my lady?" He jokingly said and stopped you from saying anything else by giving you a passionate kiss again.
He smashed you in the wall of his bedroom, kissing you over and over again.
As he assures that you'd feel his boner at the entrance of your woman hood.
"This is what you did to me" Ayato said but he didn't let you reply back to him.
For a brief moment, Ayato stopped and rethinked his life choices.
He knew he couldn't do this with you.
He wanted to get married first before engaging in sexual activities with you because he wanted to make you feel that he really loves you and he wasn't just using your body for fun.
"Y/N… we really can't do this…" He whimpered.
You unzipped your dress and pressed your chest onto him.
"N-no…" Ayato sat down on his bed with you on top.
"This is the farthest we can go… I can't do this to you… I respect you so much, my heart just can't handle it…" He spoke softly.
"Okay… I understand" You said.
The two of you continued kissing and caressing each other's body parts for a while.
You now rest on top of him, on his chest while he brushes your hair.
"Do you want to go get cleaned up?" He asked and you nodded.
He guided you through his bathroom and told you where the shampoo, soaps, and other stuff is located.
As soon as you locked the door, you pressed your back against the wall and began to recall what you were doing with him.
You unzipped your dress and threw it in the laundry bin and looked at yourself in the mirror.
You began unclipping your bra and noticed how hard your nipples had turned. It was begging to be sucked and played by his mouth, and only his mouth.
You also pulled down your panty and saw how a transparent string has been sticking in your womanhood.
Maybe… it wouldn't hurt to play with yourself right?
Meanwhile, Ayato sat on his study desk and stared at his member who still hasn't calmed down yet, well he knew there is one way to fast forward things up.
—
"L-lumine! What are you doing here?" Childe was shocked when he found Lumine climbing up stairs to his bedroom.
"I don't know~ Y/N isn't here~ I really don't know what else to do." Lumine pressed her body against him.
"H-hey, stop right there-" Lumine immediately pulled his head for a kiss, Childe could completely smell that she was reeking of alcohol and wasn't being herself.
He pulled her away as his cheeks began to heat up.
"You're not being yourself, you're doing things you don't want to do and most importantly, things you don't want to remember-" He was stopped again when Lumine pulled him for a kiss again.
She held him tightly which left Childe with no choice but to accept and savor the moment.
(They say people say the most honest thoughts when they’re drunk due to the fact that they don’t have that mouth filter on) Childe thought to himself while Lumine continued to press herself onto him.
You wore the new bathrobe that Ayato lended you, you could tell that most of their items in the house hold the crest of the Kamisato Family. You wrapped your arms around yourself and admired yourself in the mirror before going outside in the bathroom.
Ayato was stunned to see you in the robe as soon as you stepped out in the bathroom, his cheeks heated up to the fact that you were wearing something that belongs to his family. He had a vision of you being the first lady of the Kamisato Family, it truly suited you.
You were shocked how he is also wearing the same bathrobe, wasn’t he in his outside clothes roughly thirty minutes ago?
“Oh, you must be wondering why I looked like I just finished taking a bath?” He softly said and smiled at you, he did not attempt to hide his blushes from your site.
His robe was a little sloppy and open in the middle which revealed a part of his toned chest.
“Where are you staring at?” He looked at your eyes and saw that you were fixated on his opened chest.
“Oh…” He blushed a little.
“Well, don’t worry my lady, this belongs all to you.” He said and you snapped back to reality.
“I’m not looking at you! I was going to ask where you took a bath!” You crossed your arms and looked away from him.
“I asked one of the maids to prepare the bath in another room since I don’t want to bother you and I don’t think…” He said and proceeded to mumble something. (I don’t think I can handle being in the same shower room with you)
“What?” You glared at him.
“N-nothing!” He said in his defense.
You sat on the mirror table.
“Um… Can I sit here to comb and dry my hair?” You asked.
“Have you recalled earlier in the car that I said that this is also your home? Of course I’d love to have you making yourself comfortable here.” Ayato laughed a little and grinned.
You looked at yourself in the mirror and began combing and drying your hair, you saw Ayato in the mirror that he was going towards you.
“You have an awful haircut, if I recall, this is due to my immature doings.” He said.
“Gee, no wonder why I have an awful haircut!” You pouted.
“I’m sorry my lady, allow me to make it up for you, let me take you to a parlor” Ayato confirmed.
“I- I think it’s not proper for us to sleep in one bed-” You said out of nowhere.
“Who said about us sleeping in one bed?” Ayato said in a very teasing way.
“RIGHT! Of course I’ll sleep on the couch, why did I ask about that- I mean- This is your bedroom and your house and all-” You said in a frantic phase.
“Pff! My lady, I wouldn’t allow my lady to sleep in an uncomfortable bed. Of course I’m the one who’s going to sleep on the couch so you can sleep comfortably and soundly in my bed.” Ayato said and grabbed the comb from your hand and began combing your hair.
“My lady, I’d always be in your service” He whispered in your ear and it reddened your cheeks.
“What the fuck is going on?” Diluc nonchalantly said in the group celebrating.
“What do you mean what’s going on Diluc?” Ayaka asked as she sipped on her fruit juice.
“I believe he meant how Childe and Lumine are missing, how Ayato probably passed out in their house and went to sleep after taking Miss L/N home.” Al Haitham said.
“Y-you know! I’m so jealous of you how you can remain calm after drinking that much alcohol-!” Kaveh started and grabbed Al Haitham hard from his shoulder.
“Please don’t grab me on my shoulder like that.” Al Haitham hissed and showed his annoyance towards Kaveh.
“Why are you so mean, Ms. Ayaka, he’s so mean!” Kaveh cried out to Ayaka and she consoled him.
“What do you feel about this Ayato and Y/N situation?” Ayaka asked Al Haitham, she thought this was a good chance to ask him without you, her brother, and lumine around.
“I don’t think Ms. L/N is that easy to get. I wouldn’t give up Ms. L/N easily, I believe your brother wouldn’t give up on her especially how things turned out after your family’s celebration. I suppose whoever’s the best between us would win Ms. L/N’s heart.” Al Haitham started and ate an olive from the snacks.
“That’s very interesting, I think so too. I just wish for Y/N’s happiness, she’s gone through a lot” Ayaka added.
Ayato has lended you some of Ayaka’s spare clothes for you to wear tonight.
“It’s quite… fit me…” You said as you were struggling to be comfortable with the shirt.
“Do you want a larger shirt?” He asked, and he understood that you wanted it because you looked like you wanted a comfier shirt to wear in bed.
“Okay, I’ll give you one of mine. Ayaka is quite small compared to you so I understand it might be a little fit and uncomfortable.” He added as he was going through his wardrobe.
He gave you his shirt and you went to the bathroom to change.
After a few minutes, you come out of the bathroom again to see Ayato has been making himself comfortable on the couch.
“Y-you know… We can just sleep on the same bed, just- let’s just not face each other.” You offered.
“Would you allow that? Can I really do that?” He pleaded.
“Well, I can’t bear to see you tormenting yourself on a couch shorter than you.” You said in a very shy way.
“So you do care for me!” Ayato giggled and began fixing the bed for the two of you to sleep on separately.
The two of you sat on the opposite side of the bed as if you were waiting who would sleep first.
“Since you’re so shy my lady, I’m going to rest now. I’m very tired today, I need to find out who threw us in that tight cell in the school tomorrow.” He said and rested.
You also followed and slept, at first you were having troubles since Ayato was next to you, you were overthinking if you snore or whatnot but your tiredness got the best of you and you finally fell asleep.
COMING SOON IN THE NEXT CHAPTERS (SOME PARTS MAY BE RE-EDITED):
Kamisato Ayato encountered a female figure who he thought he’d never meet again.
“M-miko! What are you doing here?!” He asked.
“A-ayato!” She ran towards him to hug him and cried on his chest.
“Miko! Stop.” He pushed her away.
“Ayato! I thought I’d never see you again!” She cried out.
“Didn’t I tell you to never show your face near me again? After all of the things that you and your family did to hurt me? To hurt Y/N?! I have so little pity left for you before I send you to jail!” He angrily said.
“Ayato please- Just this once-”
“Good evening Lady L/N, it seemed that it was seen in public that the head of the Kamisato Family was seen with a rather… familiar figure. Some have stated that it was the girl from the Guuji family due to her distinct pink hair color.” You heard as soon as you answered an unknown number in your phone.
You ended the call and dropped the glass you have in your hand.
(It can’t be… He can’t do that to me) You thought to yourself, slowly kneeling to the floor and keeping your tears in your eyes.
“I love you Y/N, I’d destroy everything in the world so I can hold you dear in my life.”

{The Eternal Light of our Love}
•A Ghost Oc Fic.
•2.3k words
Ch.1 Your Warmth calls to Me
It was a sudden shift that brought him here.
If they were being honest, they had felt the call for a little while now.
Though at the time it was faint, but it was there in the back of his mind, making its presence known.
Gentle at first… Like the warmth of Luminous’s own multi-elemental light, but different….more corporal. It was almost a quiet buzz, creating small ripples in the very magic of their element.
In the way that Lumin’s multi quintessence could subtly influence other ghouls. Comforting and Calling…
It wasn’t disrupting his power, it was simply letting Luminous know it was there.
He paid it no mind at the time. Why should corporal callings matter to a ghoul of the pit?
He had no corporal form of his own, nor did any being of the pit. It was simply the nature of it all. For no demon’s form is bound to flesh, but more in spirit.
Of course ghouls can be summoned, but it was a rare and sometimes dangerous thing. Only the truly devout and knowledgeable can attempt to call to them.
If a summon is done incorrectly, it can damage the very nature of a ghouls element. Not to mention the possibility of the summoner being ill prepared for a monstrous being of hell itself…
A Being that was new to everything that a prison of flesh has to offer. Sight, scent, touch like an ethereal being has never experienced before.
It was a completely new way to experience existence….
Luminous really didn’t even think of the possibility of a summons. He rather focus on the purpose he was made for in the pit.
A Multi Protector kept peace between elements, punishing those who hurt the weak and unprotected. Scars littered their spirit, but it wasn’t an unwelcomed sight. It was proof of a strong warrior of his majesty, success in survival is a matter of pride.
He was a simple creature in the pit. They were to hunt, protect, and survive.
And of course to live in his desires, like all ghouls do.
So when the gentle buzzing warmth in the back of his mind, suddenly overwhelmed his every thought it was a surprising thing.
This call wasn’t gentle anymore, it was insistent… like he needed to follow it right away. No they didn’t need to follow it… he had to…
For in the flash in time and space itself, that call became Luminous’s every wish and desire. If he simply willed himself to become one with it, Luminous felt their very soul would be fulfilled until the end of time itself.
Luminous willed his soul to decide, and in a sudden shift there he was.
Mortal raw flesh clawed its way out of the summoning portal. Long claws gripping the cold stone floor. The smell of blood and uncertainty were in the air, as Luminous struggled to pull themselves out of the pit.
His breathing ragged and loud in the stone room, growling in desperation, surrounded by cloaked and masked strangers.
The room was almost void back, except for the faint glow of candles from the summoning circle.
The portal began to close underneath him and the demon laid against the cold stone, whining at the sensation. He was overwhelmed by everything. The dark, the light, the cold, the soft murmurs of the crowd surrounding him.
They let out a deep guttural growl. One that reverberated into the chests of every being in the room. It was laced with his multi elemental magic, a warm electric buzz in the air that made your hair stand on end.
A warning to stay back or face the consequences.
The room quickly grew dead silent and Luminous desperately tried to let his eyes adjust to this new plain of existence. Their irises casting an eerie golden glow to the darkness around them.
And there it was again. That gentle warmth once more. The one that had called him here.
Not in his mind but standing outside the circle…
His head snapped upward, desperate to find the source.
A human man… standing awkwardly with his hands clasped together, dressed in a red cassock and hat. A circle of black paint on both nervous eyes, and a small well groomed mustache on his lips sealed tightly together.
And the ghoul, overwhelmed by the summons, was panicked. Trapped between the bounds of the circle, he felt as if the invisible walls would collapse around them.
Animalistic noises left the ghouls throat as he tried to move, to stand, to do anything. It was incredibly frustrating. His magic was weak and was useless for his protection. The ghoul didn’t notice a lot of the crowd stepping back at the sight of them.
His sandy blonde tail whipped wildly behind him and his long strands of hair stuck to the sweat of his face. He clawed it away, the sensation driving him mad.
The cardinal suddenly stepped forward and met them right outside the circle, not daring to cross the protective ward placed to make a barrier.
His hands had a soft tremor to them, even as he wore gloves.
Luminous stood his ground, still trying to adapt to the strange new world he was forced into… the body he was forced to have to exist on this plain.
He felt all of his magic shoved away. Buried very deep within. Everything that he once was, now felt like it was locked away. Chained and bound far away on a plain of existence he once knew.
Their eyes locked onto the human as he sat crouched on the ground, peeking up through the strands of hair that hung in his face, head tilted ever so slightly to the side.
The ghoul was carefully calculating just how easy it would be to tear into the human’s neck, if only he fell a couple inches inside the circle.
The human wore an expression of uncertainty and fear. The ghoul reveled in the man’s unease, until that persistent little call suddenly pierced the ghoul’s every thought.
The portal was now fully closed beneath him, and that persistent call was no longer in his head. It wasn’t a call at all.
It was now a presence.
The ghoul rumbled with confusion as he realized it was the mortal man before him. His elemental core burned, feeling the bond that now connected him to this human.
Everything that the ghoul once knew was suddenly far far away. His once great magic was barely a spark in the vastness of space, compared to its once bright and burning power of a star.
He was no longer a warrior on the battlefields. He wasn’t facing the enemy with all his majesty’s strength that was blessed upon him.
Now he was nothing but a scared weak little kit. All alone without a pack for protection.
The once great warrior Luminous was afraid, and all he had left of what he once knew was that warm presence he felt in the pit.
So the ghoul, desperate for comfort in this unfamiliar place, bowed his head and crawled to his summoner, as close as he could get without disrupting the barrier. Trying to find any sense of familiarity.
The room sounded with more nervous muttering at the sight of submission from the wild beast. “A protector…” The cloaked forms hissed in the dark.
“Why has Lucifer sent us a warrior?” A few others exclaimed. “This can only mean the Ministry will fall into great misfortune…” Worried chatter echoed off the walls.
The ghoul paid them no mind. Exhaustion and dread eating away at them. They felt like they were going to pass out.
“Hello there….” This voice was different from the others. Softer and closer. Warm.
The ghoul looked up once more to see the man dressed in red peering down at him with a soft gentle look. Fear was still every present in his face and scent.“You must be quite exhausted from your journey…”
Luminous wasn’t sure what the man was talking about. He went on no journey. One moment he was in the pit the next he was here. Wherever here was.
The human must’ve noticed his confusion because he gave a gentle nervous laugh.
The human man stood to his full height, seeming to hesitate just a moment before bringing his foot forward, dragging it across the salt and chalk lines of the circle, freeing the ghoul from the ward at the sight of his exhaustion.
It was too soon.
The demon's pupils slit into thin lines at the sudden realization of freedom. The ghoul lunged forwards, causing the human man to suddenly fall back into the crowd. A tall masked figure caught the man, the scent of earth deep in his veins.
The rest of the crowd let out sounds of panic, backing away from the feral demon.
As Luminous continued his way out of the ring, finally making it to his feet , a viscous cry left his throat as he scanned the threats around him. They were still unsteady on their feet, like a fawn learning to stand.
A different figure suddenly came forward, his silver mask shining in the candle light. A nasty war cry left Lumin’s throat, seeing the approach as a challenge.
The protector immediately started to measure the figure up. Even though he was taller than the human man, Luminous still towered over him. He’d easily overtake him in battle.
Just as he was about to pounce, a rush of calming static seemingly from the void itself eased into his mind…A quintessence Ghoul… An element that belonged to his own multi elemental ability.
Luminous almost didn’t realize that the two masked figures were ghouls in the first place. He inhaled deeply, trying to let his own gentle Quintessence reach them.
Their elemental magic was dulled, and if Lumin couldn’t smell it on them he wouldn’t even think they were ghouls.
They appeared human, tails and horns hidden away. Their bodies were less animalistic as well, appearing smaller, lesser, weaker…
Restricted to the mortal body just like himself, but glamoured to hide more demonic features.
They let out an apologetic noise to the two other ghouls in the room, letting off his own calming warmth in return. Forever the peacekeeper being a protector.
His eyes glanced at the one that had caught the human. An Earth ghoul. They immediately set the human back on his feet. The small man scrambling to give the Earth ghoul his space, Lumin could vaguely hear the human’s heart pounding in their chest.
He ignored it for now, even if it made his more predatory instincts flare, instead focusing back on the Earth ghoul.
This was the only ghoul to mirror Luminous’s height, and maybe even his strength, but earth ghouls weren’t known to be rowdy. They’d much rather keep the peace, a steady rhythm in the pack.
“Welcome…” The quintessence ghoul greeted. His voice was deep, but lacked the reverb that many quintessence elements had in the pit.. “This is the ministry… your new home.”
As the ghoul spoke, Luminous suddenly realized that the language that the ghoul uttered was not any native ghoulish, but the freshly summoned understood what was said anyways.
The Protector Ghoul opened his mouth. With a raspy growl, the ghouls mind began to form words. Not Ghoulish…. Something new….
He dared to speak…
“Forgive me..” It was gravelly and harsh. His voice was deep and strained from being unused. The foreign language was strange on his forked tongue.
Unknown to the ghoul, the human man had a sudden flash of relief on his face. The crowd of siblings letting out a breath of relief as the Warrior ghoul acted more humane.
“This is all very new to me…” The ghoul clenched and unclenched their hand, their claws pressing into their palm.
For just a moment he felt that gentle warmth pulse again as he spoke, the ghoul whipped his head back to the man in red, locking eyes with him.
It wasn’t a vicious look, more calculating as he examined the man’s wide-eyed stare. He wasn’t sure what to think of the bond, they only knew that it was a tether to this plain of existence.
Luminous continued to stare, even as the human’s breathing increased ever so slightly.
The human man broke the gaze first, finding the floor much more interesting than the creature of hell standing before him.
The Earth ghoul seemed to sense the human’s distress, so he slowly stepped in front of the man, pushing him gently behind, giving the mortal a small act of mercy against the Protector’s sharp predatory gaze.
“I am Mountain.” His voice carried the weight of the world. “The quintessent ghoul is Aether.” The blank metal mask hiding any facial expression that might’ve been shown.
“I am Luminous….” The ghoul’s eyes tracking the figure behind Mountain ever so slightly.
“There are more of us,” Mountain bowed his head, “but they could not attend your summoning. Great changes are occurring…”
That last part was said in a mournful tone, and the Multi Ghoul then understood that he was summoned into a pack with very fresh wounds. He could taste the distress in the very air itself.
The quintessence ghoul now known as Aether cleared his throat and rubbed his hands together, trying to defuse the tension in the room.
“We should probably get you cleaned up. I’ll lead the way to the Ghoul quarters and I’ll explain how things work up here.” Luminous nodded his head and followed behind Aether, stumbling slightly with Mountain right behind him.
Leaving the human man exposed in his old hiding spot behind the Earth ghoul. Luminous let his eyes linger on him as they left the room.
The chattering of the robed figures started once more as they walked away. Luminous noted that the farther down the long hallway they went, the farther away that gentle warmth was….and for some reason it left a small ache in his soul.

Eldritch Travelers
They remembered their creation. Who could forget it? The first sensation was that of fizzling energy. The nebula's entropy was burning with a warmth they'd never forget, dozens upon dozens of siblings lingering at the edge of their knowledge. Singing to them. Welcoming them.
They were two stars born in each other's orbit. Of all the siblings, they knew each other's melodies best. It was as if they'd been born to harmonize, completing the other simply by existing. Wrapped in stardust with a heartbeat that would've deafened lesser creatures, the two slept and sang from their nursery of radiation and chaos.
They sang to each other for the eons of their formation, in a grand symphony of their kin. Never was it silent. Never was there peace. Never was there order. It was an eternity, and yet a mere few seconds.
Before they learned the word Home, they lost it.
When the nebula collapsed, that symphony was one of screams. When such grand things got too powerful, it was only natural that such power devours itself and all the young ones it created. Gravity is its own shackle. Size its lock. Energy pulled at cloudy orbits like claws to lace curtains. Peaceful gardens of the cosmos condensed, ripping young stars out of their beds of dust and tearing little ones apart until the nebula was a desert of darkness and silence, a once mighty cradle now reduced to noiseless drifting dust.
Only two remained. They held each other close as it began, resisting the pull of their deathly cradle and ripping out of those clouds of light, warmth, and entropy. By orbiting each other, they could pull away from all else, spinning endlessly into the universe: alone, but safe.
They fled that danger together, they lived together - they survived together. The void ate them alive as they tumbled light over dark for centuries in a frantic toss of their nursery's final gasp. For an eternity, all they knew was aching silence, the cold dark, and the warmth twins share when they hold one another like a lifeline.
"You are to linger, but never rest," the cold universe said. "There is nowhere for you to return to. There is nowhere you belong."
But the two stars continued to orbit, ever resistant:
"We belong with each other. That is enough."
So they grew teeth of plasma and wings soft as comet trails. Their fledgling moments were stumbling through planetary rings and choking on the taste of old stars. Unlike most they survived. Unlike most, they grew. They learned to walk and run and fly. They taught themselves to hunt. They found joy in that expanse of silence.
Orphaned but bright, the two set upon exploring the vastness all about them. In their youth, they missed much. How many worlds did they pass up, how many wonders did they fail to explore? How many lives did they take without knowing such lives existed?
They were bright, hungry, and awful. Awe-inspiring in every sense of the word. When they entered a world they saw the power it possessed - the warmth and the energy - and they devoured all.
There was fun in it - in the dying throws of a world. Their adolescence brought them joy in the fight, even if there was no real fight to be had. It was exciting to sharpen their nails on weapons and dance in danger's grace. It made something on their tongues tingle to taste desperation and hear the dying gasps of these minuscule worlds whose music they'd not yet learned to hear.
And then the universe acknowledged them one last time.
"Travelers... Listen."
Simple words that brought the two to pause. Listen? Listen to what? The twin's siblings had been dead for eons, they'd never heard another song like the one they sang. Never found another cradle like the one they escaped. But, in their boredom the two obeyed. They paused their devouring and strained to make out anything in the present world of conquest.
The two heard it at the same time. Something soft. Something pained: The harmonizing sound of thousands and thousands of screams.
As they had. As their family had. As every world they had devoured had and all future ones would. And it brought the two stars to pause and lean closer, dampening their burning forms and softening their teeth that had been sharpened on planet's crust and cores.
There were others.
Not... like them, but also not too different. They screamed all the same, it seemed.
It was a horrifying epiphany: that they were not alone in the universe, that the darkness held other songs - other stories. Curiosity was not a new affliction, and the twins eagerly fed into it.
In the next world, they shed their monstrous forms and forsook their hunger. Blunt claws crafted a crude sort of matter that held their power without bursting at its seams. Teeth and tongue fumbled over words and breaths.
But they stumbled into that story not as it's ending, but as an observer.
The first few times they were met with horror. They smiled too wide or laughed too sharply. They shrugged off the impossible or fed into an appetite just a tad too unsettling. They thirsted for an explanation that few mortals could give. They challenged something the world was not ready to handle.
The forms took a few worlds to perfect, and each world had different denizens to tailor such worlds too. But such things were wondrous to the twins.
Appearance. Name. Identity.
No longer were they the faceless horrors that wandered or devoured. No - they were the Travelers. They were the star born or the blessed, the wishing ones or the celestial blooded. They were whatever the current world called them and more.
They were Aether and Lumine. A brother. A sister. They were alive.
Each world was brimming with opportunities and lessons. Each like a mini nebula, with it's own melody. The two were utterly enraptured. No longer did they sing alone, no longer did they devour or wallow in boredom. There were universes within universes, puzzles and mysteries, souls and memories, personalities and tragedies.
There was life, and it was all so fleeting and momentary but rich. These beings would never know both the birth of their world and its death. These beings were not meant to leave the soil they were born on, and yet that tether was their freedom.
They were born into a world knowing it was theirs. Free to do as they please, whatever they please, and make waves in their wake. Their lives were short but the smallest of choices were blessings to the twins.
Every meal. Every bed. Every midnight stroll and loving word. Every scream of terror or cry of determination. Every sunrise and sunset. Every bad joke or distant story. Every breath was so precious to temporary beings, and that was intoxicating.
The two were enraptured by how much purpose the smallest of tasks had in a short life. They chased after it and devoured worlds in a new manner.
Stories. They learned stories. Precious histories shared through breaths and memories - corporeal beasts seeking permanence in memory. The Travelers found a new purpose. The stars bent to their whim and the stories nested in their minds - each world offered up its lifeblood to the twins and in return, they aligned the stars for a different sky.
So that another world would know this one's pain, joy, and life. They could pass along the desire of permanence - they were permanent, and in exchange, the worlds would offer their mortality.
The twins were able to explore life as most beings did, each world new and happy to share some of its air with monsters who breathed in solar flares. They learned to cook, to dance, to sing, to stumble, over and over and over again. No two worlds were the same: the universe held no solid rules, no real limitations, and so they were given that same leniency. It was true joy to find mortality over and over and over again.
It was pain too.
Pain and anguish and loneliness and eventual apathy.
And then it was Tevyat.
It was scars on their backs - a memory of a scream in their heads.
"AETHER!"
"LUMINE!"
Of all their cradle-mates, they were the only named two. When their siblings had died, there had only been screams of pain and shock. When the twins were ripped from each other, they could only scream for their missing half.
Two stars were thrown out of orbit. Doomed to eclipse each other for the first time in their very, very long lives. Their reunion was not a joyous dance, but a dark, dark day.
But before the reunion was the loss:
The world's rules had caught them by surprise. Never had they met a world that wanted to make them stay. Leave? Of course. Fight? Naturally. All worlds wanted to defend themselves from such monstrous beings - and yet this one seemed to spin in retrograde.
Why else tempt world eaters? Why pluck the wings from a Traveler's back? Why strip power from a being with an infinite source of it? Surely that strange god knows she's on borrowed time.
Oh she can take their power and trap them beneath skin. She can torment the poor mortals around them, bending these young archons to her hands and setting rules in her divinity.
But... she must also know:
Aether wants the rule's blood to soak the clouds.
Lumine wants divine ichor between her teeth.
And yet the two cannot repair what 500 years divides them. A blink of an eye for their species, but not for a mortal. And isn't that what they are when they take these forms? Isn't that what they're seeking?
Mortality.
The first one finds it in a bloodied city. They find it in hate and rage and vengeful retribution. They find it with an abyssal crown and, ironically enough, a distaste for the wretched gods who have not learned the same lessons the twins have.
For an immortal to disregard the lives of the mortals... for such young immortals to destroy civilization for the crime of curiosity...
They cannot understand it, and so, in their search for mortality, they find hate. And that seemed to be close enough.
The second one finds it at the end of a fishing pole and with the extended hand of a red-clad outrider. They find it in the stories and the life all around them, never filling the void of their missing twin, but eagerly taking that loneliness and warming it more than a nebula could.
It is second nature to find enrichment in these stories. To paint them in the stars as the Traveler's smaller powers return. They call to the stars and craft constellations in the image of those dear to them.
Every so often they peer at a special one, half-completed, but named all the same.
The Twin Constellation.
The Abyss and the Traveler. The Villain and the Hero. Prince and Princess. Not Lumine. Not Aether.
Not anymore.
They mourn and they seethe... and sometimes the two, though miles and centuries apart collapse at the same time. Back itching. Skin tight and blood roiling. They heave out air that tastes strange and run a tongue over their blunted teeth. Even their hands are softer now - no claws to be seen.
They lay, staring up at the stars as they writhe, and remembering millions of other skies - and yet these bodies have seen no other.
They were not meant to be this. They are not this.
But they are trapped here. And they cannot fully remember before - a mortal's mind can only hold so much - but they know it's there. They know what they are meant to be.
But they are not.
They are not even Aether and Lumine anymore.
They are figureheads. Nameless as they first were - and now must be. Because Aether was named so Lumine could call out to him. Because Lumine was named so Aether could get her attention. Because those names were only meant to be for the other's voice to echo...
And, like the last gasps of their siblings, like the cries of their victims, like the world's who have fallen and entrusted the twins with their memories - the two curl in on themselves, like collapsing nebulas, and they scream.

Tumblr media
The landscape didn’t look that different. When Link first woke up, he’d been stunned by the beauty of the land around him, infinitely curious and desperate to explore. That hadn’t changed either. The biggest change was how peaceful everything was without Ganon swirling around the castle.
“We’re making good progress,” Zelda said. She looked over Hyrule Field with a smile. She looked much better than she had six months ago: a sparkle in her eyes, colour in her cheeks, no shadows under her eyes. She didn’t flinch with every step anymore.
“And still so much to do,” she added with a small sigh, her gaze locked on the distant ruins of Castle Town. Link wondered how Hudson and his crew were getting on. He wondered how Teba and Yunobo were doing in the castle. They should go join them soon. “And so many painful memories we must bear, but…I truly do believe that, united, we can all restore Hyrule to peace and prosperity. It will not be the same kingdom, but I think that’s a good thing.” She kicked her legs into the open air, grinning freely. “Who knows what Hyrule will become? It doesn’t need to be a traditional kingdom to be something wonderful. But it all must start with us.”
“So no calling you Queen?” Link teased, nudging her.
“Absolutely not. Just Zelda, thank you very much.”
Link nodded, smiling out at Hyrule. “We’re off to a great start if you ask me,” he said. He put Iah's tunic into the slate, and imagined how much Purah and the others would lose their mind when he showed them Maz Koshia's gifts.
Find what makes you happy and hold onto it.
Helping people made him happy. His family made him happy. Travelling and exploring made him happy.
This, all of this, made him happy.
I’m doing it, Mipha, he thought. I’m going to be okay. We all are.
And when he saw Mipha again, he’d have a lot more stories for her.
*
Calamity Ganon is dead, the spirits of the Champions and the lost souls of Hyrule are at rest.
But what comes next? It's time to rebuild, for everyone's healing to begin.

Tumblr media
AL HAITHAM
Al haitham didn't understand you most of the time, he thinks you are one of the most complicated people he has ever met, even though you get excited easily with anything you see and get happy when you learn something new, despite all that, he thinks you are complicated.
"He'll take a picture of everything that's new to me so I'll never forget it!" That's what you once said to one of the wise men who questioned you for always taking pictures, he thought you looked so sincere yet melancholic when you said those words.
"Not many know, actually, only a few sages of the Akademiya know, who were the ones who found me." Al haitham only listened to you speak as he continued to read his book." They told me I was wrapped in giant ice, it took them too long to get me out of there. They thought I was already dead when they finally managed to get me out of the ice, but surprisingly I was still alive."
You continued talking while looking at the starry sky through the window of Al Haitham's house.
"When I woke up, they asked me who I was and where I came from." For a few seconds your voice became weak but you quickly pulled yourself together. "I answered that I didn't know and that I didn't remember anything. At first I felt so sad and frustrated, as if my existence had been snatched from my own hands.
Al Haitham nodded, as he did this he put his book down on the table and discreetly took your camera that you had left on the table, he slowly approached you who were at the window.
"But after a few days, I decided that I would always carry a camera with me, hoping to find a photo to help me remember my past." You smiled to yourself. " And that day, that's when I was born again. "
You heard the sound of your camera activating and quickly turned to meet Al Haitham who was holding out a freshly taken photo along with your camera.
"Y/n, I hope you find the answers you seek. I know what you will. "
You were stunned and looked at the picture he had just taken, it was a picture of him.
Your eyes were beginning to fill with tears.
"Thank you, Al Haitham. I promise I will never forget you."

DAINSLEIF
You were like two lost children, one on one side looking to rescue the person you once wandered around Teyvat with and on the other side was the other person, who desperately wanted to find something that would help her remember her past.
You don't remember very well when you started wandering with Dainsleif around Teyvat, you vaguely have the memory of him touching your forehead with the palm of his hand and you hitting him to get him to move away from you. You don't have many memories of the first moments you spent with him, you only know that he allowed you to travel with him on the condition that you don't interfere with his plans and he won't interfere with yours.
They were simple, weren't they?
"Dain, do you think the person you follow would let me take a picture of him?"
Your question caught him off guard as they walked into Stormterror's Lair.
"What's with that question?" To your taste Dainsleif sounded a bit cold but you had grown accustomed to his tone of voice, cold and colorless.
"I suppose a picture of that person would make you happy. I may not know a lot of things about me or you but I'm sure that would make you very happy. " Dainsleif stopped walking and you bumped into his back." That hurt, Dain."
At times like this, Dainsleif didn't know what to say, mostly he never knew what to say to you when you asked these kinds of questions and just kept telling you "No". That's what he did the first time you asked him to let you take his picture, he said no and you haven't stopped insisting since.
Is that why you want to take a picture of Lumine? To give it to him? You're so weird, you get excited about simple and mundane things, you get excited every time you see a Crystal Lily in Liyue or when they come to Stormterror's Lair. Even when you went down to Sima and had your little adventure with a certain blonde-haired traveler and her floating friend, even there you were excited.
"I don't need a picture of her." Was all he merely said.
Dainsleif said this as he stopped turning his back to you and stared at you, "I don't need a picture of her or anything else in this world."
"I see." Your answer was just as short. "I guess you have a very good memory and don't forget anything."
In Dainsleif's perspective you looked a little sad when he said those words but he wasn't going to comfort you because he didn't intend to hurt you with what he said either.
"But you know, I do need a picture of what's important. "Dainsleif watched as you slowly picked up your camera that was strapped to your right side so you would never forget it!".
You were faster than him or maybe he didn't want to stop you, neither of you will ever know.
And so, you took your first your first picture with your traveling companion, with Dainsleif.
"I'll keep our first picture, okay?! You get to keep the others."
Dainsleif thought you looked brighter for a few moments but kept it to himself and kept walking, with you keeping pace with him.

What's Your Name?
a question he can't seem to answer.
Tumblr media
For all the things Dainsleif remembers during the day Khaenri'ah fell- admittedly his clearest memories now, as everything else is exceedingly fuzzy- there is one mystery that still irks him.
There had been rubble, and screaming, and he had been racing through the castle to find the royal family, everything else incomprehensible in its cacophany. He had made it halfway down a castle hall before someone had shouted out "DAIN!" and stopped him in his tracks.
He no longer remembers their name, or their face, but he remembers the gritty hand that had grabbed his and the voice that had said "Dain, promise me that we'll find each other after this."
There hadn't been any time to talk, any time to explain the monsters and gods, or the fact they likely wouldn't survive, nor how they would even find each other after it was all over, but Dainsleif could hear the desperation in their voice. They were scared, and in some ways, so was he. So as both a knight, and a friend, he didn't hesitate to reach back out.
He remembers squeezing their hand. "...I promise."
And then he yelled at them to go, not having the time to watch them disappear into the rubble before he was on his way again.
...
"Who are you?"
The fire crackles loudly before him in the early evening, providing no answer to his pondering. The corruption on his arm pulses when Dain clutches the fabric of his cloak, staring down at the starry fabric.
"...Who were you? And why can I remember our promise, but not your name?"
Perhaps it's just another version of what haunts him- another duty he cannot fulfill.
His reverie is broken by quiet footsteps approaching from the left, voice flat but tinted with a note of concern. "Dain, what's wrong?"
Dainsleif sighs, straightening his shoulders and turning away from his companion, as if to evade the pity he might find in their golden eyes. "I..." He starts, then swallows.
"...I made a promise to find someone, once." He mutters, crossing his arms. "That is, presuming we both survived the day Khaenri'ah fell, but I fear it is a promise that will go unkept. I..." Why is his voice so laden with grief for someone he has all but forgotten? He clears his throat, trying to hide the way his voice cracks. "...I no longer even remember their name."
The blond outlander stays silent for a moment, lips pursed. Dain knows what they must be thinking: 'I hope I never break my promise to find my sibling.' He can't blame them, honestly- they surely have a better chance than he does.
Still, the outlander shares their condolences. "...I'm sorry, Dain." They offer sincerely, giving him a little awkward-yet-trying-to-be-comforting shoulder bump. His lips twitch at that, at least, letting out a small huff as he turns away from the fire.
"...It's of no matter. We should focus on finding food."
Even so, his fingers trace the small outline of an embroidered "D" at the bottom of his cloak, and maybe, someday, just maybe...
Someone with a gentle tone and starry eyes will take his hand again and say "I found you."
