Imagine, I kept thinking about a Kamisato Ayato in a modern day AU in which him and the reader were going through a divorce because things are not going the way it was supposed to be and the marriage is just not working out anymore. When suddenly, suddenly he had an amnesia.
Imagine instead of his mistress, it was you whom he kept looking for, demanding to see upon waking up after the accident. Leaving his mistress baffled and confused just as you are upon arriving at the hospital, hoping that little shitty of a husband dead only to find him demanding and desperately looking for you in the midst of this messy and chaotic moment.
"Anata." His voice soften in contrast to his shouts earlier before you enter the room, doctors, nurses and his mistress all inside. "Anata." He called out again but you just stood there as he desperately tried to call your attention. "Anata, who are these people inside the room? What's happening?" He called out and question you, you knew he was calling you because he was looking at you, not anyone but you. Which is pretty funny because he haven't called you that for years, ever since the marriage started falling apart.
"He must have hit his head pretty hard Doc." You spoke nonchalantly, not in the mood to deal with all this bullshit. "It's been years since he called me like that. Can someone explain to me what's happening with my husband?" "Husband? Then who-?" "His mistress." You replied. "As I'm saying- asking rather, can someone explain to me what happened to this guy over here?" "... Very well, Mr. Kamisato over here is involved in a car accident and had brain concussion. As we can see..."
Imagine walking into the room, not that you want to. But upon walking into the room, you are quite surprised to find him alone in there. You were quite expected him to have his mistress with him but turns out that was not the case. "Who's that?" "Who's who?" "That person who was here earlier calling me her lover." "Oh. Well she is exactly who she said she was, she's your lover." You answered, sitting on the sofa inside the private room. Looking away and pulling your phone to check out your notifications. Because goddammit, how dare he look so hurt by those words?
"She what-? Why? Tell me you're joking." You have never seen him look so confused before. Looking back and forth to the notifications on your phone and to the man right in front of you. You sigh, causing him to flinch. "The doctor told me you can be dismissed in two days because you're still under observation. And while you're current suffering from amnesia, they said there was still a possibility of you regaining your memories so don't treat her pretty harshly. I know it could be confusing at first but you'll het over it." You explain and then stood up, "Then, I'll get going now."
Imagine glancing at him only to see him look so broken, like he was waiting, begging for someone to wake him from his dream, from his nightmare. You look away, it's not like it hurts to see him like that. It stopped hurting years ago. Nevertheless, once again you sigh. "Anata-" "I can't have children." "It doesn't matter-" "Well it does now, Ayato." You smile softly at him. "And that explains everything." You added before turning your back at him and walking towards the door. "Oh right, please sign the divorce paper. You wouldn't want your future child to be labelled illegitimate, no?"
Imagine hearing him call out- scream after you but you just kept walking without looking back. You ignore his cries and call with all your might, and walking past the corridor, "Go on, comfort him." You said as you walked pass the woman. "I'm sorry." She said, sounding like she was about to cry and you couldn't help but to smile a little, "No, I'm sorry." You replied as you continue to walk your way out of the hospital.
Imagine going inside the car, your cachuffere already waiting for you inside. And in the middle of the ride, "Want to smoke?" "Nahh" You declined as you look at the city lights. "Are you sure you wouldn't regret this?" "What are you talking about." You chuckle. "He might remember everything one day." "He won't. And even if he did, he wouldn't be able to do anything by then." You answered. "He would hate you." "Then much better." You replied.
"Is it?" "Hmm?" "For the better?" Well in comparison to the amount of suffering he has to go through cause by his elders just because he has yet to produce a heir to the clan, questioning and criticising his title as the chairman and chief of the Kamisato clan, it would be much better to get rid of his one of only flaw. His spouse that couldn't give him a heir. Closing your eyes, this is nothing, "Yeah, for the better." I'm sorry, my love.

"Is it true, my lord?" you murmur softly against his chest. It's quiet, and you're bare, the both of you. The words are forced out like they're glued to your lips, so you pry them off, ripping off the skin in the process and leaving you bleeding.
Ayato is clever. Cunningly so, you think. Something about the way his lips quirk makes you think he's well aware of what you mean. Something about the way he raises his brows makes you know he's not going to make this easy for you.
"Is what true?" he asks smoothly. Too smooth. It's like he's been waiting for this question. He glances down at you as you fight the urge to hide against his sternum.
"There is word, my lord," you say carefully. "I'm certain you are better acquainted with the rumors than myself."
"Word of what, exactly? There are many rumors across Inazuma, you know."
Ayato is also infuriating. He always has been.
You think it's the way he's so easy to disappear. He's there one second, like pelting rain. Cold. Unbearably difficult to ignore. Lingering on your skin as it rises with goosebumps and brings a shiver down your spine. And then he's gone. The harsh droplets blended with the current and carried away downstream, slipping through the cracks of your fingers like he was never meant to fit between them in the first place.
Ayato was never meant to fit against you in the first place. He does an impeccably cruel job of making you believe it's possible that he could, sometimes, though. You wonder if that's the irony of his vision—what justice is there to how he rips your heart from your chest, inspecting it closely in awe for just a moment before tossing it to your feet in indifference?
Surely, the god of Hydro does not recognize such sadism, let alone reward it. Surely, there is some form of injustice to how he toys with your feelings.
Patience is your strong suit. It has to be when loving Ayatoit has to be especially when you love him from his shadow. He faces the sun, just as any head of a clan should. You linger in the space behind, devoid of light—and, for a moment, you wonder if that's why he likes to keep you around.
Everyone who faces the light needs a shadow.
"If you wish to be coy," you say bitterly, "then allow me to be plain. There is word that the Kamisato clan seeks the betrothal of their head. Forgive me for seeking confirmation directly from the source himself."
"Ah," he drawls, so sickeningly sweet in that voice of his. You love him. You always have. You have never hated that truth more. "Yes, it is. It seems the elders believe I will be well past my prime should I wait any longer."
"And what do you believe, my lord?"
"That it is my duty to fulfill the wishes of my elders."
Your heart sinks. You already knew it would—made room for it so it wouldn't destroy any more of yourself in its path, even. You expected it to hit that place at the bottom of your guts that makes you feel nauseous and numb all at once. It was only a matter of time, of course—you're not naive enough to believe he could be yours like this forever.
You always liked to daydream, though. A day where Ayato and you faced the sun together, no longer hidden in the shadow of the moon under his sheets. No longer quiet in your affairs like they're disgustingly wrong. Maybe you are naive, though—maybe such a daydream is only proof your mind is painfully self-indulgent to the point of doom.
"Do you eye someone in particular?" you force yourself to ask. You're not sure why. Maybe masochism makes it easy to breathe when it's your heart that's bleeding and not your lungs.
"I do," he confirms. Cruel, you think—so cruel is the Yashiro Commissioner to keep you close, fighting against space itself to have your body close by night and give into its wickedness during the day. And so wicked, heartless, and brutal is space—you hate it more and more every day.
"You should not bed someone when dreaming of being betrothed, Ayato," you bite. The words are laced with venom, tasting acrid on your tongue as they flow past your bleeding lips.
"On the contrary, my dear," he hums, pulling you tighter, closer. Fighting against space just as he always does—winning so easily, you wonder if space has ever tried in the first place. "Who else should I bed if not my betrothed?"
You blanch. Something stirs in your heart—you force it down and scold yourself for having the audacity to hope. Hope is not for you. Not for someone so plain. So mundane. So outside the realm of nobility.
You swallow thickly and croak, "You should be kinder, Ayato. Such cold games are hardly befitting of a husband."
"Is that so? Then I will do my best," he murmurs. His lips find yours, pressing a delicate enough kiss against them that it feels as though the rough, raw skin mends instantly. "Rest assured your husband shall be as kind as you need, my dear."
Your eyes widen. Something in you nags in a breathlessly hopeful voice—divinity is never wrong. The god of Hydro is not mistaken. Justice is the love that seeps into your broken heart from the man who tore it in the first place, patching it together better than it ever was to begin with.

Pedal to the Medal
Characters: Wriothesley, Neuvillette,Kamisato Ayato
Summary: Short racing snippets from the tracks. Let me know if I should turn any of these into full stories.

Ayato and his Pit Queen
There's a noise, familiar yet overpowering. A sonic boom that rattles your bones as the slipstreams rides up your skirt. You brace yourself on the railing, eyes straining to follow the movement of his car. "Ayato" you hum to yourself. Your racer, your king, your lover. The speakers overhead blared with white noise. Narrating something or another. He'll win, you know it. Inazuma will reign supreme on the racetrack.
Ayato's car slides next to the pit. Doors open as he melts out of the driver's seat. He's disoriented, high on energy, and drunk on glory. How stunning he looks relishing in the cheers of the unwavering crowd. He jogs up to you, his hands sliding down to your hips, pulling you closer, drinking in the sight of his trophy. Your eyes shimmer as you gaze upon him, bubbling with ecstasy to match his.
"enjoy me" You mutter against his lips.
"I will" He promises, gliding his lips against yours.

Being Wriothesley's flirty Mechanic
The tracks at night are haunting. An empty spectacle with an eeriness to rival the crypts.
You're hunched over the hood of the car, spilling the final drops of motor oil into the vehicle's veins. There's a weight on your back, something broad and warm. You feel a hot breath tickle the side of your neck as Wriothesley slumps his body over yours. "Ma chère" he mummbles, drunk on fatigue. It's been a long day of training. Preparing for the upcoming race. "How's the car?" he asks, voice tainted with concern. "It's fine" you reassure turning to face him as you wrap your arms around his neck. He raises you setting you on the car's edge.
You kiss him, deeply trying to draw out his anxiety. "You'll win, I know it." You mutter. He simply hums in acknowledgment as he presses another hungry kiss to your lips.

The Dargon's Technician (An exhausting job…)
"I have no idea how any of this actually works" Neuvillette confesses. You sigh, exhausted. "You really don't need to worry about any of it." You pluck yourself up from your seat only to plump down onto his lap. "I'll monitor everything up here and you focus on winning this thing". Neuvillette nods, eyes staring at you with some hidden longing. Slowly he places a kiss on your neck, tracing your jugular with his teeth.
Outside, the speakers buzz to life. Calling all racers and pit crew like a beacon in the fog. "Time to go m'lday," he whispers in your ear as he bites the shell of your ear. You kiss him, deeply, a good luck charm you think.
A promise for the aftermath he believes.

"Lord Kamisato, it's been quite a while since we've last spoken."
Komore Teahouse was somewhere that reminded you of your childhood, something far in the past. It was a little home away from home, your father and the Yashiro Commissioner of your childhood would be here for meetings. You would listen in on all the important details, but terminology and code words would fly over your head. The pleasant smell of tea would hang in the air while you sat, quietly and obediently without so much as lifting your hand to grab one of the many sweets strewn on the table. Instead, you'd train your eyes on the floor in front of you, fold your hands in your lap, and focus on your breathing.
There was almost always another little boy that would join in on tea time, just a couple months younger. Soft looking baby blue hair fell over his shoulder, bright eyes to match. The Commissioner would softly pet his head when your father would compliment him on his manners. Papa, as you affectionately called him in your younger years, would give a smile that would light up the room when the former Lord Kamisato would return the favor. He always took your little hand in his bigger, scarred one and he'd give it a little squeeze.
The first time your fathers left the room, the boy said his name was Ayato.
Yet, you couldn't recognize the man in front of you as that 'Ayato'.
There was a polite smile stretched across his lips as he took his seat in front of you, the smell of Sakura Blossoms choking the aroma of tea leaves that painted the room in a nostalgic light. "There's no need to be so formal, we've known each other since we were children."
Your grip on your cup tightened, though your facial expression remained relaxed. "I suppose we have." You brought the fine china to your lips to take a languid sip before gently resting it on the table. "What do you want from me?"
The same cursedly beautiful baby blue eyes darkened when they met yours, something someone who didn't know him better wouldn't have picked up on. "Is it so strange for me to invite my best friend out for tea when I finally have the time?"
Your lips twitched downwards, displeased. "Don't try to paint me as some villain, you don't request formal meetings unless you need something."
His grin remained placid, serene, and yet it grew more strained. The tension at the corners of his lips gave way to the bitter disappointment beneath his carefree façade. His fingers came to gently rest on his thighs, the quiet drag of his sleeves on the floor cutting through the silent wall of displeasure that seemingly split the room in two. "You don't seem to respond to any of my invitations otherwise."
Your lips pursed, you found it hardly necessary to hide your animosity for him.
"Would you believe me if I said I missed seeing you?"
To this, your dry laugh cut through the air. Hands balling into fists on your lap, you pushed them into your legs as a reminder to keep your wits about you. "I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. You've never been one to be play fair."
You caught a speck of hurt in his eyes, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared. Instead, his hand wrapped gingerly around the handle of the kettle, pouring himself a cup of tea. "Your tongue is still as sharp as ever."
"You act as if you're innocent, Commissioner," fists lightly curling the fabric of your own intricate kimono bottoms, "I don't recall any kind of apology for anything you've done."
To this, he didn't answer.
The silence hung in the air like a veil of fog.
The next thing to interrupt said silence was his gloved hand wrapping his fingers around the rim of his teacup and bringing it to his lips.
You let out a low huff, "I'll only ask again once, Ayato, what is it you want from me?"
He took a moment to answer, holding the delicate glass in his hand. He stared into the amber liquid as if searching for a script in the ripples created by the barely noticeable tremble in his arm.
His next words drifted past his lips like a ghost, just barely above a whisper.
"Your hand in marriage."
...
"...I beg your pardon?"
His eyes lifted from his tea finally, eyes swirling in anticipation. "I said, I want your hand in marriage."
You gave a laugh of disbelief, eyebrows curling in offended dissolution. "No, no-" Your hands raised to rest on the corners of the table. You went to use it as a crutch to help you stand up. "Absolutely not, the audacity of you to suggest such a thing is baffling and outright-"
You cut yourself off in favor of shaking your head, beginning to stand up.
His hand twitched towards your retreating form, "Take a moment to consider it-"
"What is there to consider?!" You snapped, "You've ruined so many business opportunities for my family and suddenly, you think you have the right to demand that from me?"
He looked up at you from his seat, slamming his cup on the table with enough fervor for the tea to splash out from the rim of the glass. "I did it for your own good-"
"Just because it meant promising others my hand in marriage didn't mean that my family didn't need it, you selfish, selfish, conniving-" You wanted to continue, but you cut yourself off for the sake of trying to keep your relationship as cordial as possible. Instead, you let out an indignant huff. With another infuriated groan, "You of all people should understand that I have more things to worry about than my own happiness!"
He tried to call your name, pathetically, acting like he hadn't done anything wrong in the slightest, "I never let your family suffer for losing those proposals, I always made sure you were taken care of by the Commission-"
"Does that change the fact that you're selfish and conniving Ayato?" You accused, hands balling into fists once again. "Why is it you think I would be willing to be married to a man who's proven he can't be trusted over and over again if it means he gets what he wants?"
You spied the wounds you'd torn open in the way his lips were pressed into a thin line, the inner corner of his eyebrows curving upwards. His eyes flitted between the two of yours, interpreting the brewing cascade of hatred that ebbed and flowed through your irises. "Because I love you, I've loved you since the day I met you and you'll never find a man who will love you in your entirety as much as I do."
Your jaw tensed as you swallowed a glob of saliva down your throat. With it, you swallowed a few choice words that would've exploded from your throat like a firecracker. "Love won't feed my family, Ayato. Love will not uphold my family's legacy. Love won't erase the fake sincerity you showed me the day you tried to kill the woman I was supposed to marry on our wedding day-"
"You don't have a choice."
You froze when your eyes met his hardened expression.
"What in archons' name are you talking about?"
You could see the column of his throat move as he swallowed. "You should sit down."
You grit your teeth, "No, I want to know what the hell you're talking about."
...
"Our marriage has long been anticipated by the public," He started, hand wrapping around his teacup. It didn't seem like he had any intent to actually take a drink of it, instead he occupied himself with swirling it around. "Your family is reliant on the internal affairs of Inazuma, it would be of great importance to your clan's longevity to get their foot in the door of the Yashiro Commission."
You narrowed your eyes at him, "And?"
He continued to avoid eye contact, eyes trained on the spinning whirlpool of tea. "Your family has long wanted to ask for either my own or Ayaka's hand, but believed they weren't in any standing to make a political climb that drastic. Specifically, your father hoped we'd set up some kind of engagement when we were young, but my father passed away before it could be finalized."
You felt your blood run cold.
You realized what he was insinuating with a violent shiver traveling up your spine. Your words were slow and drawn out, your voice dimming as you admitted the fatal flaw in your argument.
"You could secure a marriage without my input anyways."
His eyes finally lifted to meet yours, "I wanted to ask you first."
You could feel yourself trembling with anger, but instead of snapping at him, you let out a shaky scoff. "I was right, you haven't changed at all." You pushed a hand through your hair, "No, actually, I take that back, you're even worse than I remember. You always promised me you would put me and my family's comfort first, but now you're-" You started laughing, cold and ugly.
This time, he was the one to snap at you, "I didn't expect you to be so willing to give yourself away to someone else!" He stood up to be nearly eye to eye with you. "I was the one that grew up with you, I was the one that was there for you when your mother passed, I was the one that you swore your loyalty to when we were younger-"
"Shut up, shut up, shut up, Ayato!"
"NO!" He stepped in closer, elegantly maneuvering around the table. "Do you not want to remember all the time we were each other's one and only? Do you not want to remember when I promised to marry you? Do you-"
"That was before you tried to kill someone!" You took a step back from him, your voice cracking at what you could only dub the worst moment. "You're a psychopath and as much as my father wants to pretend it wasn't you who set it up, you still sent her into critical condition! You- You-"
He stepped closer to you, reaching out to try to pry your hands away from your face, he said your name with such desperation he almost sounded like he was the victim.
"Get off of me!" You pushed him away from you by the chest, only growing more upset with just how little space it made for you. You wanted him in the pits of hell, and yet he was still in this beautiful little teahouse.
"Kamisato Ayato, even if I have to marry you, I swear to all of Celestia above who hear me, for as long as I live, I will never love you!"
"You don't mean that."
His words hung in your conscious like a parasite. Clinging to the inside of your dome and following you around as a hidden stowaway. You would've been amused if this was some kind of villain in those light novels, but this was Ayato. This was the Yashiro Commissioner, Lord Kamisato, whichever title he preferred. He held so much power over your life and your family's legacy you had to take his word as gospel and the conversation was one of the many things you had to transcribe in this holy text.
By the time Ayato formally proposed the alliance to your father, you'd come to terms with the fact you would have no chance to escape him. You'd spoken to the man you'd been informally courting all this time, someone you'd planned to spend the rest of your life with just a few short weeks ago. You broke the singular heart the two of you had shared, that beat in time with one another. Now Ayato had to honor of stomping on its remains as your paramour watched you get married to the man you'd claimed to despise.
"Kazuha." You greeted.
You tried to hide the sorrow and longing laden in your gaze, but you could tell by the way he returned the same look back to you that any and all attempts were a miserable failure. He called your name softly, the same manner of greeting. This was supposed to be the reception of your wedding, a time of joy and celebration, yet all you could feel was a bitterness fester in the pit of your stomach.
Why?
You asked yourself this over and over again. Why must you have let all those silly promises to Ayato slip past your lips when you were younger? Why must he have turned out to be as ruthless and dishonest as he was now?
Why did you have to let go of happiness you thought was finally in your grasp?
The poet's voice felt wispy, light and refreshing, but also laced with pity. It sounded like what a weeping willow looked like when it hit your ears, "Congratulations on your joyous union."
Your voice was equally as soft as you looked at him, "Thank you."
You thanked him, but not for his congratulations. You thanked him for his understanding.
You could tell he understood your implication when he delicately questioned, "How is it that you and Lord Kamisato decided to finally be wed?"
Your expression softened, finally letting the strained smile you'd forced yourself to wear the entire day falter just a little bit. "Everyone around us knew it would happen sooner or later. Had the former Yashiro Commissioner not regretfully passed, Lord Kamisato and I would have been wed the morning the both of us were eighteen."
He hummed, holding up the small glass of sake he was nursing since the beginning of the reception just the slightest as an invitation, "I see... would you care for a toast? For all of the memories two created along the way?"
It was not for the memories you created with Ayato, you realized, but all the memories you created with him. Something akin to a final goodbye.
The smile returned to your face, genuine this time. You couldn't see it, but your eyes shone with adoration as you responded quietly, "Of course." Kazuha's own heart was swelling with a woeful passion. But his own smile remained on his features when the two of you clinked your glasses together and took a long swig of the alcohol.
The air was peaceful, beautifully comforting. It was something you'd longed to feel since your hopes and dreams had been carelessly extinguished by who you used to believe was your closest childhood companion.
The atmosphere immediately dropped when the sound of a familiar voice drifted into the small, semi-secluded area you'd found yourself in to steal just a few more moments with your former lover. It drifted in like a phantom, automatically killing the mood despite it's subtlety.
"Am I interrupting something?"
You did your best not to scowl, but you failed to stop your lips from pressing into a thin line. Kazuha noticed the tension immediately. He'd always been the more perceptive of the two of you anyways. "Lord Kamisato, I wished to congratulate a good friend on a delightful marriage. I hope I didn't steal him away from the festivities for too long."
Despite his light-hearted laugh, you could tell Ayato was unhappy. "No worries, Lord Kaedehara, but if you'd be so kind, the day has been rather hectic. I haven't had the chance to enjoy a moment alone with my husband."
Kazuha had wanted to stay in an attempt to help you once last time, always putting you first. Perhaps he could've prevented any tense conversations in front of guests. It seems his last act of love had failed. "...Ah, I suppose I'll be taking my leave then."
Ayato looped his hand to hang onto your bicep, a much more content smile gracing his features as he watched the familiar silhouette disappear into the crowd once more. Once the two of you were alone, he turned his attention to you.
"I didn't want to demand anymore from you, but it still wounds me when my husband chooses to spend his time with another man the day of our wedding."
His smile still looked as radiant as it had when the two of you were standing before the altar, but once again, you could see the swirling and darkening displeasure in his eyes.
You scoffed, painting a similar smile on your features. His mood seemed to lighten just the slightest bit, however his hopes were dashed when your words were harsh and cold. "Spare me, I don't want to spend more time with you than I must."
He gave what looked to onlookers like a playful squeeze to your bicep, but his words were equally callous, "Humor me, I've finally caught you and despite all my devotion you act as though you hate me."
You leaned in close to his ear, pretending to whisper a fond secret. You wanted to watch him struggle to keep the smile on his face when you told him the thing that always seemed to hurt him the most throughout the course of wedding planning.
"I'm not acting, if you need me to spell it out, I do hate you."
"You're leaving?"
You turned back to the luxurious futon, Ayato sitting on one side of it. He looked serene, angelic in his sleeping yukata. He had the covers pulled over his legs and his hands folded in his lap. Picturesque, you admitted in your head begrudgingly.
"What did you expect?" Your own yukata hung off your frame loosely, having been hastily put on. Your arm was wrapped around the belt, making sure that at the very least you would be decent while you were walking through the halls of the estate you were now hopelessly confined to.
His brows were furrowed, confused, panicked. His hand came to rest on what should have been your side of the futon with a frown, "It's late, where are you going?"
You huffed, turning your back to him again and going to slide open the door to your shared bedroom. "I'm tired, I'm going to sleep."
His voice took on a displeased undertone, one hand fisting the covers strewn across his lap. "The futon is here, where else would you sleep?"
You shook your head, "I'm going to my study, don't bother waiting up for me. I won't be returning until the sun breaks." Your hand found the dark and smooth treated wood of the door. Just as your fingers went to pry it open, you noted the sound of shuffling with dismay.
His hand was ghosting over your shoulder in moments, "If not every night, then at least for tonight could you stay? What would the attendants think if you weren't in our marital chambers the night we were married?"
You shrugged his hand off aggressively, hand pushing open the doors to your room. "If you loved me you would let me leave despite what anyone else would think, Lord Kamisato."
Both of his hands returned to both of your shoulders, fingers digging into the thin fabric. "Then would you let me be selfish and indulge me? I want to sleep next to my husband tonight."
"You keep calling me your husband. We may be married but I don't love you, can you respect my wishes this once?" Your hand was like a constrictor around his wrist, tugging his greedy palms off of you. You tried to erase the sight of your wedding band glinting in the low light as you did so.
"You can ask for anything else, but this is something I'm not willing to compromise on." He didn't let up, your fist still wrapped around his arm. "We are married, not only is it improper for you to sleep anywhere else, it's especially improper for you to leave on the night of the wedding. We still haven't fulfilled all of our obligations to officiate the marriage-"
"For her excellency's sake, get your hands off of me!" You cursed, all but shoving him away. "You are lucky I was raised a man of honor or you wouldn't be getting anything out of me, you greedy snake."
He returned your anger with venom of his own, "And what, pray tell, do you mean by that?"
You occupied yourself with properly tying on your Yukata, "You are lucky I choose to be faithful to you, to forsake all others, should you have picked any other unlucky victim they would most likely be running off with their own mistress-"
"If you're still thinking about someone else when you put your ring on my finger, you clearly aren't a man of honor!" He bit back.
You narrowed your eyes at him, tightening the knot on your clothing. "You are so incredibly lucky that Kazuha didn't deserve to be some mistress. He deserves so much more than to be some dirty little secret I kept in my pocket for the rest of his life-"
Baby blue seemed to pierce through your defenses, the clear hurt, but also vindictive anger shining pure and unadulterated back at you. "I am the one that you married, and yet all you think about is him. If you think doing the bare minimum of not inviting someone into our bed is being a man of honor, you are sorely mistaken."
You finally turned your full attention to him, ignoring your need to leave the room as quickly as possible by this point, "What more do you think you're entitled to?!" As quickly as the words tumbled out of your mouth, you shook your head, realizing you'd stepped right into his trap. "Forget it, don't disturb me again. I'm leaving."
"I wanted to have a real marriage!" He all but screamed, frustrated tears brewing in his eyes, "I wanted to carry out all the traditional rituals of newly weds. I wanted to fall asleep listening to the sound of your heart, I wanted you to treat me like more than some kind of villain-"
You sucked in a harsh breath, "You're sorely mistaken if you think a ceremony and a ring would erase everything you've-"
"For fuck's sake, I wanted to feel like you loved me again." His tears streamed down his cheeks, "I wanted to feel you hold me underneath the moonlight like lovers do in all those silly light novels you made me read, I wanted to go to sleep surrounded by the knowledge that I was married to the love of my life."
Your jaw hung, slack at his confession. "You can't possibly mean-"
His hands were balled into fists at his sides, "Yes," he breathed through the quake of his voice, "I wanted to consummate the marriage tonight. I thought at the very least you'd want to get it over with."
You stared at him in utter disbelief, abject horror written all over your features. To think he would demand something so intimate out of you without considering your feelings was another level of detached from reality you had the inability to understand. You shook your head, opting not to respond.
His voice came out like a whisper, "Am I really so repulsive to you? I was rather sought after when I was a bachelor. If nothing else, I'm attractive. Do you hate me so much you couldn't put it aside for one night just to fulfill the obligations of a real marriage?"
"Don't talk to me, Ayato." You turned your back on him for the last time that night, finally stepping out of the room and closing the door behind you.
Your eyes shot up when the door to your office opened.
You hadn't been expecting any visitors today, so imagine your dismay when your husband walked through the door. In all of his well-maintained, elegant glory, there was a small smile stretching across his cheeks.
It had been a few months since your wedding, since then, you also had not slept in the same bed, eaten any meals together, nor did you take particular interest in the innerworkings of the Yashiro Commission in its entirety. No, you largely kept away from anything that had anything to do with Ayato. You were still nice to everyone else in the house though. After all, you hadn't been raised in a barn. You were a proud heir to a business that reached far and wide, you kept your manners in tact no matter the situation.
Usually, your day consisted of waking up at the very crack of dawn, back on fire. You slept in your study on the floor with a blanket, much to the dismay of Thoma. He had come to take care of you just as much as he took care of Ayato and Ayaka, viewing you as an extension of the family. Despite all of Thoma's begging, Ayato refused to purchase another futon for you, claiming you had a perfectly functional one you could be using. In your stubborn little argument, you too, refused to order yourself a futon.
Sure, your quality of sleep had declined, but you still had your pride in tact.
Despite being awake so early, you never caught Thoma off guard. In fact, he would be quick to enter the room with some tea and a fresh set of clothing he'd managed to weasel past a sleeping Ayato. Usually, if Thoma got caught trying to bringing you your clothing in the morning, Ayato would stop him and tell him your legs weren't broken and you could get your clothing yourself. You would drink your tea, Thoma would leave the room, and you'd dress yourself. Thoma would offer you breakfast, you'd take a small offering out of courtesy, and then you'd disappear off to your office to help run the business with your father.
In the afternoon, you would usually come home and find Ayaka. Seeing as she was your sister-in-law and someone you'd also grown up with, you enjoyed making pleasant conversation and catching up. As soon as Ayato returned from whatever duties had taken him away from the manor, you would slink off to your study. Thoma would bring you your dinner when you'd refuse to leave your brooding room, you'd eat. You'd change into the sleep attire you kept in your study, fall asleep on the ground, repeat cycle.
It was just like Ayato to throw a wrench into your perfectly crafted schedule.
"Commissioner... to what do I owe the pleasure?" the words flowed past your lips reluctantly, a special flavor of vitriol hand in hand with each syllable.
He seated himself in front of your desk, taking note of the seeming mountains of paperwork. The sight wasn't unfamiliar to him either. All the more reason for this visit to set alarm bells ringing in your mind. "Come now, that's hardly the way to address your husband, dearest."
You see now why he left the door to your office open. For fear of frightening your subordinates, you played along. "I mustn't forget my place, love, after all, we are in public."
Even though the word was strained, you could see his smile pull just the slightest bit up his cheeks upon hearing the pet name. "Who would dare question you returning you husband's affections? Do tell, I'll make sure the full might of the Yashiro Commission will come down upon them."
You gave a playful chuckle back at him, fully embracing the self-loathing that came with it as you pushed yourself up from your seated position. You took careful steps to the door, pretending you wanted to get some alone time with your so-called lover. "You spoil me."
"It is only natural, is it not?" He smiled, allowing himself to pretend this was the truth of his marriage. Oh, how he loved to make you squirm.
You couldn't shut the door fast enough.
Once, the two of you were guaranteed to be away from the prying eyes of others, you took your seat at your desk again. You picked up your brush, scanning over the writings in front of you. "Why are you here?"
"Is it so wrong for a man to want to visit his other half?"
You grit your teeth, doing your best to bite back the invectives you wanted to badly to hurl in his direction. "You certainly haven't visited me before."
He waved it off, "We've only been wed for a few months, surely you understand the difficulties of responsibility and obligation."
"Ayato," you warned, "-don't toy with me. I am well aware you have some kind of motive for pushing your work aside. Get on with it."
He pursed his lips, "If my motive was just to invite you out to lunch?"
You knuckles whitened in their grip on your brush, "Cute, now tell me why you're really here."
He sighed, readjusting his sitting position. "I suppose it can't be helped, you've known me for far too long."
For once, you agreed with him. "Indeed."
Ayato seemed to swallow spit down his throat, "I want a divorce."
You paused, brush stopping on your page. Your eyes met his, shocked. In all your time knowing him, he had never been one to surrender his prizes when he finally got his hands on them. This revelation only prompted one question to tumble past your lips. "What's the catch?"
"Divorce wouldn't look good on either of our families, but I'm afraid your family will bear the brunt of the backlash." His finger delicately traced circles on the top of your desk. "Failed engagements aren't the best omen to a family's prosperity. Not only this, a failed marriage that is revealed to have been begun on false pretenses would only further shatter the credibility of your family's business."
You cursed under your breath, pressing your free hand's fingertips on your temple. "State your demands."
He seemed almost giddy that his bluff had paid off. His face lit up with this boyish delight that had your stomach twisting in a woeful knot.
"Simple, I want to spend tomorrow night as lovers."
Despite your attempts to draw out your work for the day, ultimately you still had to return to the large estate that was now your home. Instead of taking a left turn in the long corridor to your study, you swallowed the spit in your mouth and walked further down the hall to what was technically supposed to be your bedroom.
You wanted to try and work as late as possible, hoping Ayato would already be asleep by the time you returned home. You could make the excuse that you were much too busy to consider being intimate, but much to your dismay, he had waited for you to get home. This was the first time in months you'd willingly entered the room, and yet, every inch of it was burned into your memory.
Right down to the man sitting awake and alert in the middle of the futon.
As soon as he heard the door open, his eyes were on you in an instant. Not even a second later, he was on his feet, slinking towards the doorway. You shoved the brewing grimace back down into your gut and away from actually making itself known on your features. Instead, you let your expression remain neutral as he rested his hands on the collar of your clothing. "You're here."
"Did you think I was lying?" You asked, carefully, letting your own hands rest on his wrists. Instead of doing what you usually did, prying his greedy mitts off of you, you settled for just loosely holding them in place. It wasn't lost on you that Ayato was pleasantly surprised by this change of pace.
"No, you've never been a liar, dearest." He let his pet name for you roll off his tongue like honey, yet it tasted as bitter as bile when it slithered through your ear canals. "But being told what will happen is much different to actually experiencing it."
There was a calm, placid smile on his face as he reached a hand up to stroke the side of your face lovingly. He was acting as though his doting husband had come back from war, not his prisoner finally ending his little strike and returning to his little prison cell. You hadn't had any physical contact like this in months, you really hadn't realized how much you missed it. You let your eyes close and your face lean into his palm with a tired sigh.
He was practically exploding with a twisted sense of triumph while he observed. It had been so long since you had so much as looked at him. Now, you were letting him touch you, willingly. His voice came out hushed, just barely ghosting through the air. It seemed as though he hadn't wanted to ruin the moment by pressing you further, "Do you want to do this tonight? I wouldn't mind going to sleep and trying another time as long as you promise to stay here more often."
You hummed, shaking your head, "I made a promise to you, Ayato. I don't go back on my promises."
His breath hitched in his throat when you gently peeled his hand off your cheek and pressed a soft kiss to his wrist. He called your name quietly, almost as if urging you to reconsider. You wondered if it was for your sake or his own.
You didn't want to hear anymore of his protests or his complaints, so you leaned down just enough to be eye to eye with him. "Can I kiss you?"
He didn't respond verbally, sucking in a sharp breath through his nose and nodding his head quickly.
You pressed an innocent kiss to his lips, waiting a moment before pressing another one in the same spot. You lingered, noting the barely noticeable hum from your husband's throat. Your hands came to rest on his hips, carefully peeling your lips open and waiting for him to follow suit.
He was quick to take the hint, deepening the kiss and tilting his head to the side. It turned heated rather soon after, starting with a tentative swipe of your tongue against his. He rewarded you with a moan, his mouth opening wider to accommodate anything you were willing to give him.
Before you knew it, the two of you were staggering towards the futon, intertwined in one another's arms. His palm was pressing against your flaccid dick, trying to get a reaction out of you. You, on the other hand, had your grip on his hips, squeezing his love handles every now and then as encouragement or affirmation. You weren't a half-hearted lover, if you planned on doing something, you followed through to the best of your ability.
Ultimately, you came to sit on the edge of the bed, Ayato kneeled between your legs. His face was red, breathing heavily and panting. His eyes screamed with desire and twisted with passion. His own arousal was clearly between his legs, much easier to see with the thin material of his sleepwear. Still, he insisted on paying attention to you before himself.
He rested his head on the inside of your thigh, submissive and demure. You did your best to push his misdeeds out of your mind, focusing on having an attractive man's attention all to yourself. More than eager to please, he positively drank in your attention, hands coming up to pull at your waistband.
He pulled it down just enough to expose your erection to the cold air, you swallowed the hiss that threatened to burst past your lips and instead focused on brushing his hair behind his ear. You watched the pleasant shudder run through his body, his desperate hands coming to wrap around your length.
He pressed a soft kiss to the head of it, licking across the tip and paying special attention to the slit. You let out a grunt of approval, hand moving from behind his ear to tangle itself into more of his baby blue hair. His cheeks flushed an even darker blood red as he kissed the side of it this time.
"Let me take care of you tonight, darling. You've been so good to me today," he practically begged. He waited for your affirmation, needy for your encouragement. You nodded absentmindedly, eyes half-lidded as you stared down at him.
He practically moaned when he first took your cock into his mouth, the vibrations sending a pleasurable tingle up your spine. You shuddered under his attention, watching each inch disappear past his lips until he stopped abruptly and gagged. The spasm of his throat elicited another groan out of you, your eyes closing to properly register the delectable debauched feeling.
He lifted up off your dick to take a deep breath before going back down again. It was better the second time around, having the flat of his tongue caress the underside of your length. He let a good amount of saliva dribble past his lips and slide down the shaft. He used it as a lubricant as he worked to stroke what he couldn't immediately fit in his mouth. You bit your lip at the pleasant sensations.
He started to bob his head up and down slowly, most likely testing out the feeling for himself before fully putting all of his effort into it. You leaned back further onto the futon, bracing yourself on the hand that wasn't busying itself with combing through his hair. You let yourself be lost in the sensations and lewd noises of saliva and gagging. Your eyes fluttering shut as a few groans escaped your lips.
He pulled off of your length with another pornographic noise, trying to catch his breath. "Honey, please look at me." His hands continued to stroke languidly up and down as he caught his breath. "I want to see your reactions, knowing it's your husband that's making you feel good." He pressed his cheek onto the inside of your thigh again, a cheeky smile carved into his cheeks.
You opened your eyes to peer down at him, tensing your jaw as he used his thumb to toy with your slit. Even if you didn't want to admit it, you kind of had to say he knew exactly what to do when it came to handling your sex.
His smile stretched further, a beautifully sinful glaze darkening his irises as he stared into your eyes. You felt pathetic for putting your dignity aside for something as small as carnal pleasure but you couldn't stop yourself from asking him,
"Are you going to keep going?"
His eyes were on you like a starved man presented with a gourmet, luxury, full-course meal. You almost felt like you were the one getting deflowered, the one that was about to be ravaged.
Ayato laid beneath you on the futon, his appearance disheveled and the front of his yukata open so he was laid completely bare for you to see. Desire fermented in his core, and you could see it in the way his usually pale skin was painted a soft pink hue, slick with sweat. The two of you had barely done anything, and yet, he was practically begging you to continue with the way he looked into your eyes.
His fingers tugged impatiently at your own clothing, just about drooling as he watched you shed each and every layer. You leaned forward, looming over him as you indulged him with another open-mouthed kiss. His eyes and your own fluttered shut as your fingertips ghosted its way down his abdomen.
He whined into your liplock when you hands stopped just short of his ass, coming to rest on his hips. You didn't immediately give into his greedy demands to keep going, opting to give yourself a moment to steel yourself for whatever would come after this. His arms gingerly snaked their way over your shoulders and curved around your neck. One of his hands came upward to play with your hair.
Finally, you continued to trail your soft touches further down, stopping to knead the fat of his ass before continuing even lower. He positively blossomed at your careful and loving attention, vocal in his satisfaction with each and every movement you made. You pulled away from the kiss, offering him two fingers pressed against his bottom lip.
Wordlessly, he pushed your hand away, bashfully avoiding eye contact and looking down towards where the two of you would be connected momentarily. Following his gaze, your eyes widened as you realized he was already prepped beforehand.
Even if you had treated him like porcelain up until now, it didn't change the fact there was a hatred for him that took hold in your gut. You pressed another soft kiss to the side of his neck before gingerly taking the skin between your teeth.
Underneath you, he let out a sweet moan, his hand pulling at the hair on the back of your head out of reflex. You grunted against his skin. Freeing his neck from your canines. "I didn't know I married such a whore."
A whimper sounded from the back of his throat, something that'd been meant to degrade him only seemed to deliver blood rushing to his dick. It twitched against your stomach, his thighs trying to rub together despite both of your knees pinning them open.
Despite the lack of warning, you lined yourself up to his entrance and slammed yourself in to the hilt with a considerable amount of force. You relished in his choked scream as his fist nearly tore a chunk of hair from your scalp. "W-Wait, dear-"
You drew your hips back again, bucking them forward into his perineum again. He cut himself off with a squeal when you brushed past his prostate for the second time. He looked up at you drearily, confused. He went to open his mouth again, to beg you to be gentle or to go slower. But you beat him to it,
"If you want to act like a needy whore, you'll be treated like one, dear husband."
He went to protest, but he was cut off with another harsh thrust that sent him further into the futon. He whimpered pathetically as he squirmed under your gaze. He might have gotten a little carried away before you'd gotten home, but he hadn't known you'd react to it so extremely. Once he'd finally learned to keep his mouth shut, you rewarded him with another earth-shattering movement of your hips.
His thighs tried to squeeze together, but your hips were in the way. It left him largely defenseless from your onslaught on his prostate. He took in a deep breath that was promptly knocked out of him as you set a decently quick pace to start off with.
Soon enough, the room was filled with the sound of whorish whining as you battered his insides with your cock. The force of your thrusts creating a lump on his toned stomach muscles, you raked in a twisted satisfaction from his suffering as he tried desperately to adjust to the abrupt change to pace.
He called your name, hiccupping through it, "Slower- ahn~ Sl-Slower, please- hn~ I beg of yooUu-"
You didn't respond to him, ignoring him entirely as you trailed your mouth to his collarbones. You bit down harshly on one of them, sadistically aroused by the way his back arched underneath you. He keened at the abuse, eyes shutting as he allowed himself to be lost in the rhythm of your hips.
The fingers previously tangled in your hair moved to scratching down your neck with his semi-blunt fingernails. You hissed at the raised red marks that followed behind his desperate movements. While you certainly enjoyed putting him in a compromising position, you didn't care as much when he was the one inflicting pain on you.
Deciding to return his favor again, you let him believe you were going to be a little more gentle. Your hips slowed down momentarily as you trailed little butterfly kisses up the side of his neck. You allowed yourself to be proud of the explosive shiver that burst through his nervous system, even more excited to see what his next reaction would be.
You sucked a light red mark into his jawline before grinding the skin between your teeth, speeding up your hips exponentially. There was a pleasant satisfaction that settled over your body as the one you were fucking into the bed seized up in an silent scream. His back arched into a beautiful curve, almost as though trying to run from the hand pressed against the small of his back, but begging for more as it pressed into your chest.
A few short seconds later, his pitchy moan ripped through the air as his legs pulled up closer to his chest and his toes curled. However, you didn't let up, only further fueled on by his intense reaction. If he thought you were going as fast as you could before, he was sorely mistaken as you picked up the pace once again.
You used the hand on his back to push him into your own muscular chest, the bump on his stomach protruding not only from his abdomen muscles, but now having the added pressure of your stomach on top of it. His own cock was pressed between your two bodies, the sweat sticking to your skin making the slide comfortable.
It wasn't long before Ayato's nails raked down your back one more time and his squeals echoed through the room. "Cu-Cumming- ouh~ ouh~ i'm cumming, i'm cummingi'mcumming-"
His eyes crossed before rolling into the back of his skull, his lips parting in another shriek before coating both of your stomachs in his spend.
Despite enjoying watching him suffer, you slowed your hips and rocked him through his high tenderly. His arms dropped from around your neck, resting his forearm over his eyes as he tried to catch his breath. He shuddered as you continued to slowly move, the sweet burn of overstimulation coursing through his entire body like some kind of poison.
"D-Darling, I just came- mmhh~ p-please, spare meee~"
You gently grasped his wrist to pull his arm away from his face. Despite the sweet smile on your features, he could tell from the wicked glee swirling in your pupils that you had no intention to allow him a moment to rest.
You tenderly brushed your lips over the pulse point on his wrist, watching him shiver as you continued to slowly move your hips. "Ah, but sweetheart, you were the one begging me to spend the night together as lovers." You intertwined your fingers with his as you gave a light-hearted chuckle,
"I'm simply giving you what you want."
"D-DeArehest- Ahnnn~"
Ayato couldn't do anything besides pathetical rest his upper half against the soft futon as you basically fucked the daylights out of him. His eyes had long rolled up into the back of his head, the number of times he'd spilled across the bedspread had gone uncounted past the second. Having already been filled up once, the second round of sex was arguably even more torturous as the overstimulation curling outwards from his gut turned from pleasant tingling all over the body to violent bursts coursing through his nerves.
In response to Ayato's pathetic call for your attention, you grabbed a fistful of his silvery blue hair, pulling him off of the mattress to preserve his scalp. He mewled lewdly at the sudden pain, the shame of being such a masochist pooling in the bottom of his gut.
Teasingly, you answered from behind him, continuing to pound his now limp body into the mattress. "Yes, my treasured husband?" You'd figured out you'd rather liked doggystyle, specifically because Ayato no longer had the comfort of kisses or reassuring looks from you.
Your voice had a singy-songy twang to it, obviously very pleased with the state you'd demoted him down to. His eyes were laced with tears, drool streaming down his chin with another anguished moan escaping past his abused, swollen lips. The crafty, steadfast Yashiro Commissioner turned to a pathetic, needy whore in bed. It was enough to make anyone at least a little prideful.
"P-pleaheeaseeee no mooohreeeee, mmmmhhh~"
His hands fisted the soft blankets underneath him, his voice pitifully shaky, slurred, and drawn out. His thighs trembled with each powerful thrust aimed at his rear, his arms shook and buckled from the overwhelming pleasure surging through his bloodstream. More tears streamed from his eyes as you continued to tug at his beautiful blue locks.
You clicked your tongue at him, letting go of his hair to wind your arm back before bringing your palm down across the fat of his ass. "How ungrateful, Ayato-" you grunted when he subconsciously clenched down on your length, "Your dearest has been treating you so well all night and your only thought is to be unappreciative?"
He sobbed pathetically into the pillow he'd been dropped back onto, his mind reeling in the waves of pleasure crashing through his body with each and every magical piston of your equally magical dick. "I-I'm shorrryyy- ouh~"
Your hand came down on his ass again, hissing when he tightened around you. "I should teach you how to properly appreciate when I spoil you like this."
Despite the burn of overstimulation streaking through his gut, he nodded his head frantically against the pillow, desperately seeking your validation even in what could be considered one of his weakest moments. Bent over with his ass in the air, spurting uselessly from his cock while becoming more and more aroused with each punishing spank delivered by his husband's hand.
Your pace picked up once again as the groveling mess that was your husband took its toll on you. You could feel your orgasm approaching, approaching quickly. You groaned as you pressed your chest against his arched back. "You begged me so nicely to cum inside earlier, how about you make it up to me by doing it again? Hm? You can do that for me, can't you beloved?"
He nodded against the pillow. You chuckled, grabbing him by the hair again, pulling him to be supporting himself on his palms again, his squeaks and pleas no longer muffled by the futon. It took him a few moments to full compose himself, eyes rolling to the back of his head at the sudden change of pace and position.
One hand pulling his hair, your other wrapped around his neck carefully, giving it a small warning squeeze. He keened under the added pressure, his dick throbbing painfully hard once again, smacking against his stomach.
"Pleasepleaseplease- ahahn~ come inside of me darlIHing~" He choked on his next words as your fist tightened around his trachea. He could feel himself grow lightheaded, both from the lack of oxygen, but also the mounting arousal that came with the exhilaration of knowing how much power you held over him.
The moment you eased up on the pressure, he was begging again, much more eager to keep going with your encouragement. He babbled on, lacking the ability to care less about who could hear their beloved Lord Kamisato begging for his husband's cum while being choked and spanked.
"I nehEeed your cum i- OUh~ insiHide~," With another light squeeze of his throat, he continued to spew more and more pleas. "B-Breed me pleHEasee~ Hah~ I want t-to be fuhull with y-yoUhour- Nghah~ chiHIldreennnn~"
You groaned as you finally bottomed out in him for a second time, spilling inside of him once again as he shrieked in euphoria.
When you let go of him, his front half fell into the futon, murmurs and mumbles of contentment and gratitude gushing past his lips like a broken dam. His hips only really remained upright because you were still sheathed inside.
His thighs shook like a leaf, terribly unstable as you attempted to pull out. Despite all their trembling, the moment you tried to disconnect, his hips pushed backwards into yours with a whimper.
Your features gave way to a smug grin, reaching down and lacing his fingers with yours against the pillows. "Do you not want me to pull out, Ayato?"
He sleepily shook his head, still slumped ass up face down.
"You might get a stomachache in the morning, silly boy."
He flushed a little the more you teased him, shaking his head again. He moved your hand shakily to his cheek, pressing a kiss onto each of your knuckles.
You chuckled, taking an especially excessive pleasure in watching his fucked out, blissed actions.
You had been the one to do this to him.
Even with all the power he held over you, you could still do this to him.
Perhaps...
...
...Perhaps knowing this would make your marriage to Kamisato Ayato just a little bit easier.

From Duty to Dawn
【 content; kamisato ayato x retainer!reader , established relationship , mild suggestiveness , hurt / comfort , some angst , political landscape , poisoning , forbidden (and secret) relationship , gn!reader 】
【 summary; Ayato dislikes attending political banquets and events—but there are times that he must show face for once. You accompany him as his personal retainer and guard, of course, yet have to act accordingly under the eyes of the political nobility and lordlings... not so much as a touch is appropriate. You must act as if you are nothing more than a servant to him, and it is an act you are very used to and practiced at.
The Inazuman nobility are no strangers to assassins and deep plots, least of all Ayato himself—and you are used to being a preventative step, stopping such attempts from reaching your lord (and beloved). Though you aren't used to being caught in the crossfire of it, consuming a compromised cup meant for him. 】
【 note; experimenting with some retainer!reader that i kind of have an idea for a multi-chapter story... feeling for it a little, consider it a taste. 】

His skin is soft and cool under your fingertips, you brush a strand of hair from his forehead and watch movement occur behind his closed eyelids. A halo of moonlight casts against his cheek, shining from outside a partially open window allowing fresh air inside the wide room.
“Mmnh… am I disturbing your rest?” Ayato’s voice is heavy with sleep as his lashes flutter slightly and his eyes lazily open halfway. His gaze finds yours leaning above him, he doesn’t look to the moon to see if dawn is approaching, eyes fixed on your face as if it were far more interesting.
You hum, thumb gliding over his jaw and touching a tangled lock of hair falling down to his neck. “Should that not be my question? I was awake before you.”
His hand rises from under the thick cover, Ayato’s palm is warm despite the cool skin of his cheek and jaw, his touch gentle and fingertips soft. “Perhaps… but it seems to me that I may have distracted you.”
“You are rather distracting,” you agree as he lifts your palm to his lips, a chaste kiss placed upon your skin. Sleepy and dishevelled like this… how can you not touch his face? You’re hardly holding back from leaning down and giving him a proper kiss. But perhaps that’s not very productive when you both should be sleeping.
A smile tugs at Ayato’s lips and his half-lidded eyes crease only slightly. “Is that so?”
You raise an eyebrow down at him, leaning on your side and elbow to the futon—mostly to get a better vantage point to stare at him as he sleeps. Very normal (for you). “Mhm, now, go back to sleep,” your hand moves from his as you use your fingers to close his eyelids again. “Important meeting to be had in the morning, lords need a healthy sleep schedule.”
Making no move to take your hand from his eyes, a soft huff of amusement leaves his chest. “I am hardly on my feet all day,” Ayato makes a weak argument, these small moments of bedside chatter are scarce and short—can he be blamed for desiring to extend this chance? “Perhaps I will be further inclined with a more convincing reward.”
Your eyebrows raise. “Reward? Excitement won’t put you to sleep.” Despite your reluctance to indulge in whatever “reward” he deems himself worthy of, you tilt your head slightly, inclined in curiosity.
“A kiss, nothing more,” he says innocently, eyes practically shining as he gazes up at you. “On the lips?”
“How demanding,” you mumble, before leaning down and giving him what he wants—never has it been your strength to deny him anything… to a healthy extent. His lips are soft and well moist, as if he had quickly licked them after you closed your eyes. It’s a short peck, nothing to get him excited for—then you’d never fall back asleep. “There, is that—”
Clearly unsatisfied, Ayato’s hand reaches behind your head, curling at your nape as he pulls you back down—your elbow nearly slips but you manage to catch yourself by setting a hand down beside his head, ensuring you don’t crush your body to his so suddenly. The second touch of your lips is greedier, he holds the kiss for a few more seconds before his tongue touches your mouth—at which point you tug your head back a little and slip your hand between your faces, palm over his lips.
With a pout, you stare down at him with an unimpressed expression. “A kiss?”
His voice is muffled below your hand, but you can feel his smile. “My apologies, I couldn’t resist.”
You click your tongue, removing your hand from his mouth and wiping it on your clothes. “My lord should learn some discipline,” your tone is both scolding and mild, not a true fire beneath your tone. “Perhaps he should go without for a while.”
“My retainer would not be so cruel as to defy me the essence of life?” a smile tugs at his lips as you move back to where you were before he tugged you over, fingers covering your mouth as you yawn. “I wouldn’t have the strength to go on.”
“Essence of life? What have you been reading to find such lines? The only essence of life you consume is the finite supply of milk tea produced in the next three countries over,” you huff a laugh and lie back down beside him, tugging the covers back up to your shoulder. “We have much to do tomorrow, go to sleep.”
Ayato hums, scooting closer as you close your eyes, he snakes his arms around you and tugs you into himself, your face squishing into his chest—the front flaps of his robe are loose, opening like a maw to allow your cheek to be pressed to his skin. “Ayato…” you grumble against him, trying to shift to get more comfortable, ending up with setting a leg over his waist and arms in a somewhat awkward, but kind of comfortable position—you hope they won’t give you pins and needles in the middle of the night.
“It’s been too long since I had you here, let me keep you close for the night,” his words are low and quieter than before, undoubtedly he’s gotten comfortable and already starting to slow his breath for sleep. “You can turn around if you wish.”
“... no, this is fine,” you don’t move, while it might be more comfortable, he is right—it’s been many nights since you slept with him like this. As spring approaches the Yashiro commission gets more busy preparing for said spring, as well as summer, the real behemoth of Tasks-Need-To-Be-Done-Before-These-Months.
The sleep the two of you slip into is peaceful and serene, the cicadas haven’t emerged yet, and the partially open windows a comfortably cool breeze to slip through, ensuring neither of you feel too warm against each other.
As always, you wake far before Ayato does—fetching the freshly prepared clothes for the day, checking the day’s schedule with the general staff—though Thoma usually oversees the housekeeping schedule and staff, so you only check in with him to make sure everything is going smoothly. After doing the rounds and finally going to the kitchen to take the prepared tray of tea, you headed back to Ayato’s bedchambers… which is a mild way to put it, when his room, a general living and tea room attached to it as well as his private wash chambers span a good corner of the estate.
Sliding the door shut behind you, Ayato is already awake—it’s not very often that you have to rouse him yourself—and has freshened up. “Good morning,” you greet as you set the tray on the low table by the wall, raising the pot to pour some tea into a cup for him. “You mentioned the other day that this blend from Yashiori was refreshing, perhaps it’s good for mornings.”
He approaches you and accepts the offered cup, taking a small whiff of it as you set the pot down. Ayato takes a lingering sip and considers the taste for a moment before speaking. “Hm… refreshing, yes. Though, I do prefer my usual,” he takes another sip before setting it aside. “It is good.”
“I will inform the kitchens,” you nod and stand to find the folded fabrics you brought earlier. Sunlight filters through the paper walls, casting the room in a comfortable hue that nearly covers the white fabrics in your hands yellow. “Will you wear primarily white or blue tonight?”
“Blue, I wore white too many times in recent meetings,” Ayato muses as he fishes for some socks in a cabinet. He doesn’t care much for public appearances or gatherings, but he was officially invited along with the other Tri-Commissioners to celebrate a smooth winter and the coming of spring—he will stop by for a few hours at most and retire early; they at least expect him to show his face. Unfortunately. He could be doing far more productive things elsewhere.
With a sound of affirmation, you set the blue robes up to hang over the rack made for them. Your hands smoothe the fabrics out and ensure there’s no creases while you hear shuffling behind you, no doubt Ayato getting ready—at least, as far as he gets. You hear your name said behind you. “Ah, could you give me a hand?”
Setting the accessories of the outfit aside, you move around the futon laying on the floor to help Ayato with the layers of his clothes, though he can easily set most of it together, his undershirts are tied slightly behind him. “There,” you hum as you tie the knot and step back to reach for some of the accessories of his current outfit—your own clothes are rather simple compared to his, but his position demands more… grandeur than yours does.
As you help him with the finishing touches and ropes, Ayato gives you a smile. “I assume you’ve completed your duties for the morning, why don’t you join me for breakfast? We can discuss the day’s events while I go over a few reports that need oversight before noon.”
You wrack your brain for a few seconds—while you would love to agree immediately, you don’t recall if there’s anything of import that you’re supposed to do in the next hour… it’s best to consider it regardless. “I am not busy,” you say as you finalise the last accessory on his right arm. “I’ll bring it to your study when it’s ready, from what I saw in the kitchens earlier, it’s within the next ten minutes.”
“Wonderful, I’ll have settled by then.”
Thinking he was done and ready, you move to finalise his robe on the rack when a hand encircles your wrist, stopping you in your tracks. “Ah, I received no good morning kiss before you departed,” Ayato is smiling when you look back at him, eyes lightly crinkled in mirth.
“You did receive one, you were merely fast asleep,” you huff. He’s so greedy for attention for someone who is supposed to be subtle about it.
He inclines his head, his smile remaining as he pulls you closer. “It can hardly count if I wasn’t awake, no?” Ayato’s hand turns and loosens its grip, sliding towards your palm to hold your hand instead as he raises your knuckle to his lips. “Hm, please?” The tickle of his lips against your skin, and the glint in his eyes are hard to resist at once. “If only my puppy had a real tail, would it be wagging right now?”
This guy… you want to pinch his cheeks and really show him what happens if he ticks you off, but you don’t—he’ll enjoy the retaliation. “Tch, don’t you have reports to read? Or papers to sign?”
Exhaling in mock disappointment, Ayato lets go of your hand and fixes his sleeve. “Of course, I have not forgotten… my dear retainer seems to not allow me to do so.”

It’s a whole ritual to help Ayato put on his more formal robes, each layer is tugged and laid over the other in a careful manner and your practiced hands do so with little hesitation. He stays still as always, waiting patiently as you finalise the ornaments and accessories that complete the look—sometimes you wonder how he walks around in such a heavy outfit.
The trip to Inazuma City takes half the day, and thus you didn’t have much time to enjoy the breakfast Ayato insisted you share, there was much to finish before departing—and so you had scooped your breakfast in your mouth so quickly he had inquired whether your stomach wouldn’t reject it.
… and you didn’t exactly feel great during the ride here, it seems your stomach was a bit upset at you—but you just had to live with some discomfort.
The celebrations are held in a large hall made for such things not far from the Tenshukaku—the Shogun herself won’t be attending, but that’s neither surprising nor expected, and might even be… rather awkward. You’ve never met her yourself, and you’re unsure if you would want that first meeting to be surrounded by soon-to-be tipsy and bordering drunk nobles and vassals.
The venue is beautifully decorated, lanterns lit with decorative papers that set a subtle pink hue over the room, the branches hanging overhead as you enter the large hall haven’t bloomed yet, but in a matter of a few weeks they would become lovely. The celebration is held a little earlier this year, due to some changes in trade and an expansion of Ritou’s port, the petals would usually have at least peeked out a little.
It’s surprisingly well organised and set up, considering the Tenryou Commission practically demanded they take care of it this year… the Yashiro Commission is the most practiced for these types of affairs—but they’ve truly outdone themselves.
You accompany Ayato inside, taking your place at his southeast, as custom dictates—and follow only a couple of steps behind. He is stopped by every single noble the two of you pass, and you stand nearby in silence… and mild annoyance. There’s no burden to yourself, but you know how much Ayato dislikes the theatrics, the impossible perfection expected of one another in manners, interaction and even appearance. And an unhappy Ayato (beneath a perfectly crafted, polite smile), makes an unhappy, shadowing retainer.
There’s few that greet you, the most is a nod between retainers as their lords meet and giving a respectful bow to those of an appropriate station.
Long rows of tables have been laid out, plush cushions set in preparation as attendants moved about to ready the meals while the nobles socialised. At the head were three cushions with a back for the Tri-Commissioners, while all other seats were bare cushions… for a moment you envied Ayato for having something for his back, unless you consciously keep your posture straight and poised, you always end up hunching like some kind of floor-demon.
There’s a benefit for being both Ayato’s retainer and guard—you get to sit as close to him as possible, though not always as close as you’d like… there’s quite a few seats between you, and you are allowed to partake in the meal of the night.
The chatter of the hall grows louder the longer people remain inside, the doors have been slid open to reveal the gardens beyond the hall, but braziers have been lit to keep the space warm—there’s still quite an early-spring chill in the air, especially as evening darkens the skies. You follow Ayato to his spot overlooking the hall furthest from the doors, you lean down to whisper to him. “I will retreat to my own seat then.”
Ayato hums in acknowledgement. “Of course. I will signal you,” he replies without turning his head.
Satisfied, you make your way down past the nobles and vassals sitting closer to the Commissioners until you find your seat at the lower level. Enough to be within eyesight of your lord and most of the hall, and with your back to the cool outside of the room. The food presented is wonderful—the shoots are perfect as you scoop them into your mouth, almost forgetting to pay attention before catching yourself. The meals will be lovely tonight, but you shouldn’t forget why you’re here.
Straightening a bit—as you had started to slouch over the food in your interest and focus, you eyeball Ayato’s plate. He has already finished the small portion that was brought out as the first round of dishes, seeming to answer a question proposed to him from the sidelined table of lords on his right.
Momentarily, as his mouth moves—though you’re too far away to hear his voice—Ayato’s eyes shift and meet yours. You don’t make much movement, holding his gaze in case he was trying to tell you something… but none of his usual signs follow, and then he looks away.
Hahh… putting you on edge by looking into your eyes—can’t Ayato try and behave like a normal lord for a night? It wouldn’t kill him to follow some rules and procedures. He can be teasing and sly once you’re not in this particular environment.
The night goes on and more dishes are served, you shift your position slightly to rest your knees as some other have along the evening but are prepared to shoot back into position if needed. Your belly is overfull with food already, so you mostly indulge in the vegetables on your plate before starting the more heavy bites. You thought you had just started feeling better from earlier today… and here you are, scooping meal after meal down—it wouldn’t do to leave behind a full plate.
Ignoring as the attendants of the attendance hall take your empty plate, you prepare for the main course—the fourth out of five for this gathering.
But as the fresh plates are laid out and you thank the attendant next to you that gives you a clear pair of chopsticks, you notice movement in the corner of your eyes. Ayato raised his arm to fix his hair from his face with a slightly exaggerated flourish of his long sleeve, violet eyes staring directly at you—a call for attention.
He tilts his head to his cup, and you move after grabbing one of the cups by your plate. Staying low as you cross around the tables, you come up behind Ayato, leaning close to him so that he can whisper to you. “Take my sake,” he utters, lifting the cup to you.
Ayato doesn’t enjoy sake served hot, lukewarm is tolerable, but he’s not a fan of hot or warm beverages in general. You set your own cup by his hand, a tea that has cooled down—perhaps a bit more than can be acceptable to offer a lord, but Ayato takes it either way.
While such a high-ranking guest’s preferences would usually be catered to, Ayato doesn’t very much like discussing his preferences with those outside of his household… and he also just likes to give you whatever he doesn’t want, whether you like it or not.
“Of course,” you take his drink from his offered hands and move back to your seat. You’re thankfully not the only retainer that has stood up to attend to their master tonight, not that you’d let that thought stop you from tending to Ayato’s needs.
Sitting back down, you gulp down the sake while it’s hot before starting on the main meal. Perhaps having some sake will clear out some room in your stomach for the last two courses, the final one will likely be small anyway.
Chatter surrounds you, but you’ve been tuning it out most of the night—the Kamisato estate is rather far from the outskirts of the city, and thus you don’t exactly have close relations or friends with other retainers or servants of clans outside the Kamisato. No one addresses you in particular either, so you can mostly eat in peace and keep your attention where it’s required.
The food tastes okay—you expected the salt grilled prawn to have more of a taste than it does, all the foods have been rather surprising so far, surely the main dish isn’t the one to disappoint?
You feel kind of bad for thinking that while the prawn is just staring back up at you.
A voice next to you says your name that you snap out of your staring contest with the prawn on your plate—you didn’t even realise you were staring at it so intensely. Raising your head, you see the man next to you staring at you. “Ah, you were being addressed…”
There’s an attendant behind you, squatting down to not stand over you. “My apologies, you simply seemed uncomfortable, would you like me to bring you some water?”
Uncomfortable? You don’t feel uncomfortable—not much at least, maybe your tongue stings a little, but that might just be the salt off the prawn. “Oh… I’m sorry. Yes, thank you,” you take the empty sake cup and hold it to the woman as she tilts the water-filled flask to your cup. The bows and leaves, and the man next to you has turned back to his former conversations.
Had the attendant been calling for your attention? You didn’t hear her at all.
Raising your eyes towards Ayato again, you find him staring at you—it’s almost enough to knock attention back into you and straighten your back, almost. You sip the water in your cup slowly, but the cool water doesn’t parch the dryness in your throat, if anything, it stings your tongue—like ice on an open wound.
Your expression pinches, the numbing pins that follow spreading out your jaw and to your ears.
Across the room, Ayato is still staring at your face—he knows you like the back of his hand, better even… and there’s something wrong about the way your hand trembles as you lower your empty cup of water. He watches you subtly, pretending to focus on his meal as his eyes follow the furrow of your brow and discomfort in your eyes.
He can’t just stand up and approach you to ask whether you’re alright, nor does he want to bring attention to you—in the case it’s nothing more than a swallowed wrong sip… but something tugs at his nerves that something is wrong. Ayato is well-versed in preventative measures, and he ensures every corner is secure before he sets foot into a room that isn’t within his own home—had he missed a step?
His mind suddenly fills with thoughts and a step-to-step recollection of the earlier day—the moment the two of you left the estate and made for the city and to this moment. Nowhere had he suspected anything amiss, nor seen any signs that would send alarm bells in his mind.
But he cannot simply sit and wait until you show whether something is amiss or not—you might be his retainer and guard, but he would never have you lunge yourself onto a blade for him.
Your ears ache, and you feel nauseous, the entire room feels as if every single person is staring at you, but you can’t seem to tell their faces apart. You rub your eyes and shake your head to try and clear your thoughts, but it only invites a dizzying spin of the room with the turn of your head.
Your tongue still stings, the zapping pain that shot towards your ears is pricking down your throat now—there must something have been in the drinks you consumed, but your mind struggles to follow your instincts and as you shift to turn around, your hand misses the table where you attempted to lay it to assist with standing. You don’t have the balance to graciously save yourself, and you almost tumble into the man next to you, who turns around in bewilderment of practically getting body-checked.
Voices now form around you, louder than before—aimed at you. You apologise hurriedly, but your tongue doesn’t move and your words sound like the groans of a ghost. Hands steady you as the repeated sounds of what sounds like your name, or a formal kind of address fill your ears, and brain, and eyes—and you can’t focus on the blend of faces that all look like half-cooked seaweed in front of your eyes, or is that the back of someone’s head?
It hurts to breathe, every drag of your breath is painful, it hurts to keep your eyes open, to move your tongue—it hurts—fuck, it hurts so much—
The room turns on its head as blood spills from your lips, not in a wave or splatter—a single line mixed with drool that drips down from your chin and onto your chest. Attendants rush to move out of the way as half the sitting retainers and guards rush towards you, the hurry and chaos is enough to make you want to puke, but you doubt anything so wet would appear in your dry throat as is begins to burn, as if you swallowed something searing hot.
Ayato stands to his feet, striding across the room quickly without running as he shoulders his way past the crowd of people. He had been weighing his options on how to pull you away quietly without raising attention… before you decided to stand up on your own and crumpled onto the person next to you. As soon as you missed your grip on the table and your dazed eyes didn’t react, his heart had beat twice in place of one.
Getting to you was a fight and a half until the people blocking his way saw who it was that was trying to push past them. Your expression was pained, but your eyes were half-lidded and unresponsive to the movements before it, blood slipping from the corner of your mouth as your breaths heaved with great strain.
“What the hells happened to them?!!” “Hey! Wake up!” “Call for healers!”
Shouts and calls bounced back and forth in the wide hall, but Ayato’s attention was on your face—he finally reached your side and knelt down where someone had laid you on your side in case you would suddenly throw up. He says your name quietly—far too quiet to be heard beneath the shouting of the people standing above you. He longs to take your cheek and wipe the blood and spit from your skin, but such gentle gestures have no explanation between a lord and retainer.
“Look at me,” Ayato’s words are demanding, but his tone isn’t. If he can’t physically turn your face, he wants you to do it. He says your name, but there’s no reaction from you as the crowd parts for healers to fill their place, robes sickeningly white and pristine as they kneel down to examine you.
He watches their movements closely, but there’s little he can do—you’ve been poisoned. Such attempts at assassination are not few nor far between in a political landscape such as this, and Ayato could not count it on one hand the number of times he has refused or tossed out a compromised cup. He would recognise it anywhere—but how?
His usually carefully crafted measures of avoiding assassinations did not prevent this—the food is all supposed to be tested and carefully crafted before it’s served, no celebration that hosts all three Tri-Commissioners and several other nobles can afford to take half-measures, and it seems he is the fool for assuming the Tenryou Commission would take every step as seriously as they should, no matter how small.
Ayato longs to take your trembling hand—it hasn’t stopped shaking since you put your cup down, he wishes he could place your head on his lap and reassure you, whether you could hear him or not. The pained breaths leaving your lips sound like the groans of a dead man, every drag of air through your pained throat tying a tighter vice around his heart.
The healers pry open your mouth and eyelids, staring into them for answers as they feel for your pulse as well. Their mutterings fly by as Ayato’s hands clench on his lap, holding himself back. “—bleeding from the tongue and throat—” “—temperature dropping too fast—” “—pulse is too erratic—”
He can’t sit there anymore. “What has to be done?” Ayato’s voice silences their mutterings, every second you simply lay there, dying, gasping, is a second his nerves are trying to escape his body through his fingertips.
“Take them to a side room, we must determine what occu—”
“They were poisoned,” Ayato cuts the poor healer off halfway through their sentence, his tone bereft of patience. “Determine the root, I will find the cure.”
“O-of course, quickly now!” the same healer nods as the three raise you into their arms carefully. Mutters and conversation rumble among onlookers, the sudden chaos of someone dropping down could of course only mean one thing, and it’s ripe for speculation and rumours.
Ayato ignores them as he stands, but hasn’t made a step to follow the healers taking you away when Chisato suddenly appears by his side, her eyes wide and hands close to her chest. “What an awful sight—are you alright, Kamisato-san?”
He’d rather not keep up appearances and stay from your side too long… “My apologies for the commotion, I must ensure my retainer is alright,” Ayato was about to turn and leave the hall when he spotted Kamaji speaking hurriedly with his two retainers, waving one away as the second was nodding to whatever he was saying.
“Ah, do me a favour, my lady. Please try and find the employee list for me, if you could,” Ayato says to her, inclining his head only a little before turning and leaving the attendance hall without waiting for her response, or seeing her reaction. It would speed the process up for him if she would do it, but whether she accepts such a bold request from him is another matter.
The healers are already hard at work by the time he arrives, they’ve taken a blood sample, and called for a higher ranked healer who happens to have a vision on her hip. Ayato approaches the futon you’ve been laid out on and looks to the main healer. “Has there been any progress?”
You look awful, and still pained—Ayato wishes you had lost consciousness from the pain already, if only to spare you the agony… or perhaps himself, from having to watch it.
“The poison is a fast-acting one, but it does not spread as fast as it harms, nothing has reached or damaged any organs,” the woman speaks, her hand hovers over your chest—the flaps of your outfit pulled open for them to examine the skin and feel for your heart—and a faint glow emits from her palm. Immediately, your body jerks and a pained cry leaves your throat that makes Ayato nearly jump at attention.
“What is it?” he asks hurriedly, eyes flickering between your face and the healer beside you.
The woman retreats her hand. “It seems to have a burning reaction, perhaps a foreign herb—the bout of pain was from my pyro vision searching their body, it creates a warm feeling that seems to be unwelcome in the state they are in now.”
It’s a delicate situation—and if the plant used for the poison is foreign, it will add difficulty to find a suitable antidote… but it can also help narrow the perpetrator down. Though his desire to find the ones responsible for this are great—his desire to see your eyes open and focused again are greater. Thankfully, Ayato works well under pressure.
He glances towards a healer as they approach with a jug full of water to set aside. “We shall begin a simple preventative process,” he says, bowing his head at Ayato’s stare. They hurriedly set your body on its side again, it’s only been ten to fifteen minutes since you consumed the poison—and thus if they can make you empty your stomach, it could toss out a large part of the poison that hasn’t been digested.
Ayato doesn’t look away as vile tea is poured down your throat, it’s foul enough to make anyone immediately vomit. As half-digested food spills from your lips, tinted with blood and bile, it’s clear whatever poison was used is utterly colourless as there’s no strange discolouration in the contents, nothing unusual at least.
He takes a breath to reel in the frustrations searing the inside of his belly, to not let them overcome him—Ayato must have you stable, and a plan set out to locate the perpetrators before he can even consider allowing himself to feel.
After vomiting two more times, the healers let you rest for a minute or two—not that you recognise the time frame nor what is happening anyway—before practically pouring cup after cup down your throat, lighting incense beneath your nose so that you swallow as much of it as possible to dilute whatever poison still lines your stomach and throat.
If you’re lucky… they’ve acted quickly enough that more won’t be necessary, but Ayato won’t take the chance.
A healer from the side approaches Ayato where he stands and stares, eyes unblinking as he watches everything that’s happening to your poor body—he failed to prevent this, and thus he cannot be permitted to look away. “Kamisato-sama…” the healer calls to him quietly, and it snaps Ayato from his thoughtless gaze. “The ingredient itself that was used is unknown—likely foreign to Inazuma… but it shares similar components to dendrobium when ground and strained with strong alcohol, the symptoms are similar to that of the late Tanaka-sama’s death.”
If similar enough, the typical antidote commonly known should prove sufficient. Ayato didn’t bring many people with him to this gathering outside of himself and you, but the Shuumatsuban are never far. A simple step outside the room is enough to call for them. The Shuumatsuban would never enter or make themselves known in a public space such as this, if only because accusations would aim towards Ayato that he had assassins posted nearby for ill intentions. But at his call, a short woman wearing highly concealing clothing appears at his feet with her head bowed.
Sending her off with the orders to find the needed ingredients, Ayato lingers in the empty and quiet hallway for a time. He can do so little for you in the present moment that it tears him apart—he can only send for an antidote and pray it will prevent your untimely demise and departure from his side… there is a deep, consuming desire in his chest to be close to your side, to grasp your hand in his and feel your pulse beneath his own fingers.
Were it not for the damned ways of the Inazuman political landscape—were it not for the assumptions and social requirements that you be nothing more than a servant to him, disposable at worst and at arm’s length and best. Never to be allowed a simple touch or gentle caress be it not hidden behind concealing screens and behind solid walls.
Ayato runs a hand over his face, fingers rubbing at his eyes… of all the people in that room, it had to be you.
He hadn’t stopped and gathered his thoughts properly, rationality clawing from between bloated nerves, feeling as if they would explode at any moment so long as your eyes were unfocused and not fixed on him.
Going back to the scene would do him no good—undoubtedly the nobles and servants still whisper and discuss among themselves, and he would be bombarded with questions and assumptions, there's no space to think.
Thankfully, Ayato has an excellent memory… if he can just focus and think back. Was it from the food? Drink? The blood and space of damage was inside your mouth, it was consumed through there…
The memory of your trembling hand lowering the cup he had traded with you flashes in his mind and a sinking feeling tugged on his stomach just as it did churn with the beginnings of anger.
You had been drinking water when your hand shook… but the poison would not work so fast as to have such an effect immediately. It had to be from the sake—who would target you after all? Outside of being a respected servant of the Kamisato household, you had little else to your name.
The cup had been poisoned, meant for him… during the highlight of the feast, served with the main course. The thought of being the target of assassination does not shake him, but the thought—and reality—of you being caught in the crossfire does.
Ayato can’t stand being out in the hallway for longer, hopefully the Shuumatsuban will bring what he requested soon enough.

You had barely felt anything for a while, and though it was a nice change of pace… not feeling anything is both alarming and uncomfortable—you’re barely lucid enough to understand why you’re alarmed by it, you just know you are.
All you remember were hands touching you, hurried musings you couldn’t tell apart, and that your throat, mouth and eventually chest hurt so much you thought you might’ve been disembowelled.
Squinting your eyes open after wallowing in darkness for some time, you saw a familiar wooden ceiling… you’ve spent enough time in the estate’s infirmary wing to know the ceiling very well, as well as the scent of the flowers they decorate it with to cover up the smell of the medicines and gore that’s stuck to the floors and walls after generations of utilising it.
There’s no one around as you turn your head, you test your voice to be able to call out for someone later—you’re still a bit groggy to want to be poked at just yet—and find that the only sound that leaves you is a strained breath, but barely any sound.
You do feel rather thirsty.
Lying there for a while more hoping the heavy feeling in your body and head will dissipate at least somewhat, your wait amounts to nothing as you still feel as if there’s a whole horse sitting on you and refusing to budge.
You reach out and tug on the string to your left, a small chime hanging overhead to call for a healer—and you’re surprise with the speed (and force) that the door is slid open the moment your fingers touch the string. “Y-you’re awake! Please lower your arm!”
Doing as you’re told—not that you had much strength in it to hold it up like that for long—you blink a few times as Kanna hurried to you, and as you suspected… poking and prodding, she tilted your head up and poked at your throat. “Does this hurt?” “Do you feel this?” “Can you speak?” “Are you cold?”
She’s always a bit enthusiastic, but you feel that she should really know that a patient who just woke up should be spoken to… a bit more slowly. You attempt to reply to her, but make an incomprehensible sound—which prompts her to give you some water, finally.
After quenching your thirst and helping you sit up, the door slides open again and a slightly dishevelled looking Ayato stands there. His chest subtly rises and falls in a quicker rhythm than it should if he had simply walked here and he’s still holding a wet ink brush.
Kanna stands when he appears, giving a small bow. You were still a little disoriented as they exchange a quiet word and she leaves.
As you’re rubbing your eyes, Ayato slides the door closed and kneels down by you—four walls surround you, and only the head doctor of the estate as well as a handful of healers roam this side of the infirmary. You’ve barely croaked out a hello when Ayato’s hand touches your jaw, tilting your face towards him.
“You’ve… worried me,” he says slowly, as if there are a thousand words he must say, but had to push out one at a time. The muscles in his face pinch into an expression you’re not very familiar with. “How do you feel?”
“Not great,” you manage. Your eyes continue to stare at his pale expression, he seems paler than usual—the bags under his eyes are more prominent as well. “You… haven’t slept well…”
His lips part for a moment, before a small huff of laughter escapes him, lips tugging halfway upwards. “No, I haven’t. But you should hardly concern yourself with my health at this moment,” his hand on your face shifts slightly as you feel a pinch on your cheeks, he’s got your right cheek between his fingers. “You fool.”
“Ow—ow, stop… hey…” you try to tug your face out of his grip, but it just stings more and only your hand weakly prying at his own gets Ayato to loosen his grip. “Oww…” you rub your cheek, at least the sting distracts from the throbbing ache in your muscles.
“Have you not been taught to test your drinks before consuming them?” he continues to scold you—what are you being scolded for? He didn’t test his own either! “You…” Ayato sighs, sitting down onto your futon so that you have to shift your legs away a little to give him proper room. “The sake was poisoned, I was shortsighted—too relaxed.”
You didn’t say anything, but when you think back—it added up, the slowly growing discomforts and pains after drinking the hot sake… the temperature must have masked the off taste, you hadn’t even considered trying to smell a difference, considering the cup arrived at Ayato’s table.
“Who was it?” your hands clench on your lap, a pinching feeling of anger forming in your chest—someone had tried to poison Ayato, and nearly succeeded. You didn’t even care that it was you that took the fall in his place—if anything, you’re relieved.
Ayato’s eyes lower to your hands, and his palm lays over your left knuckle. “It’s handled. The perpetrators were discovered and hunted down. Details came come later, for now, you need rest,” he says, a firm look in his eyes—he knows that if he doesn’t practically tie you to the bed, you’ll try to be up on your feet again before you should be.
You huff at his answer, even if the situation wasn’t handled, he would still say it was—just so that you wouldn’t attempt to track them down yourself… not that you probably could in the next few days, or week. You haven’t even tried walking yet. “How long was I asleep?”
“Not long,” his voice softens again, thumb sliding over the waves of your knuckles as he speaks. “Less than a day, I had you moved here as soon as medicine was administered, I suspect most of your rest has been recovery sleep.”
Ah, not so long. That’s good… “I hope you didn’t worry for me too much.”
Ayato tilts his head, blue hair falling from behind his shoulder and over it. “Why not?”
“Ah… I do not like worrying you…?” your words come out as a question, you’re unsure exactly what to say. Wouldn’t it be natural for you not to worry him?
A small hum leaves his throat, and his hand rises to his chin. “Then… I hope you will work harder to stop worrying me in the future.”
“...?”
His hand lowers, and he begins counting on the finger on his other hand. “You must stop working further into the night than I do and rising before me as well, eat everything off your plate before rushing to the next awaiting task… hm, do not immediately put yourself in front of me at a hint of danger—” you feel like he’s reciting some sort of contract to you. “—and allow properly assigned tasters to examine my meals, not yourself. Perhaps also avoid bathing when I should be getting my tea—”
“A-Ayato…” the formalities forgo your mind in your haste to stop him. “I understand, please stop talking about it.”
He closes the hand he was counting with and a small smile touches his lips again—messing with you, as usual. Ayato shakes his head and inches closer, his hands brush against your cheeks as he cups them and leans his face close to yours… his forehead touches yours and you feel the warmth of his breath fan over your lips and chin. “You did not respond to me, when I asked it of you,” his voice is tight, and his thumb slides over the skin of your cheekbone as he speaks.
Unsure how to answer him, as you have no recollection of him demanding your attention, you simply close your eyes, the softness and warmth of his hands on your cheeks is comforting. Your eyes flutter open as his right hand slides down to your shoulder and draws you into his embrace, one arm encircling your back and the other laying its palm against the back of your head.
You stay still as he does, allowing him to slot his body against yours before you relax fully, allowing your forehead to rest against his shoulder as his hair tickles your face. “I’m glad you are safe,” he utters against your ear. “You really did worry me, I would rather not lose you, if I am allowed… even unconscious, you stole my attention at every minute of the day. I could hardly finish any work.”
Your own arms reach around his waist, a bit too tired to raise them properly. He’s holding you so tightly that you can feel his heart beating even through the layers of his clothes, you almost want to ask if he’s truly alright as his fingers tighten in the thin robes at your back. “Thank you for your care.”
Ayato shakes his head slightly, only to pull back a little—and dip his head towards yours, his lips finding yours easily. He’s soft and warm, and you worry your lips are too chapped for a kiss, but Ayato doesn’t care. Thinking he had just leaned down for a simple peck of assurance, you tilt your head back—but his hand behind your head tugs you towards him again.
You hold onto him for balance as he kisses you properly, a hungry tinge to his tongue as it brushes against your lips—but he doesn’t press it further, as if to only taste the surface of your mouth. You’re sure you have a bad breath anyway.
Finally allowing you free from his lips, he sets another small kiss to your cheek where he had pinched you. “No need to thank me,” Ayato says, the setting sun filters through the papers of the door leading to the engawa outside, the warm light settling against his skin and giving it the life he felt fill his chest at the sight of your waking, aware eyes. “You will always be by my side—death will have to pry you from my hands.”

Worth more than what you take me for.
ayato x gn!reader
summary: in which he had to choose between two people including you, in a life and death situation.
disclaimers: swearing (there's like one lol), kidnapping, ooc traveler.
4,032 words and 21,895 characters.
a/n: dayum. this took a while and i did not expect to write this much.
you've known ayato since childhood. your parents has been serving their clan for generations, being one of their most trusted allies. and you're no exception.
growing up with people with high authorities was such a privilege. you remember when you first met lord ayato and lady ayaka. they both were very the same yet so different. so elegant, disciplined and was well mature for their age. you felt some kind of barrier between you and the siblings but they turned out just as kind as they look. they were easy to converse with. naturally, after some time of serving them, you would have gotten closer. and in fact, you did. although you thought, you and ayato's relationship was... rather special.
for some reason, ayato treats you very differently compared to others. not in a bad way. he often calls you to his workplace, make you sit there and drink tea with him. he takes you out to go eat dinner at uyuu restaurant when you both have finished work. he requested you to be his personal assistant while ayaka had thoma. and because of this, you get to spend more time with him than anyone else. at the beginning, you always thought ayato would be a cold and strict person. but it turns out to be quite the opposite. okay- maybe he is more quiet and colder than others, but that's towards other people. especially to those he only has business with.
ayato is surprisingly different to what you originally thought. he would try to match your humor, often speaking informally like the way you would around your closest friends just to match with you. lately he's been spending his free time with you too. he noticed you liked tea a lot, much like him. so both of you had made it a habit to have tea at the estate's balcony while the sun is going down. watching the sunset together. it felt really romantic for you- but you quickly shook your head and remembered that to him- you're just his work partner. but is that really the case for him? because he was much more observant than you thought. especially about you. he notices any slight change in the mood with you. so there was a particular day when you were gloomy because of being so tired. but he noticed this immediately.
"Shall we take a break?"
-- and you don't know why but your heart skipped a beat when he said that. you thought it was funny-- how he would do all of this for you. and at times like these, you start to feel like a special person to him. just because he always relies on you compared to others. you thought you were special to him. until she came.
who is she? she looks so... bold and pretty. just one look at her and you can already tell she has a strong personality but has a gentle aura. her blonde hair swaying so glamorously in the wind. her otherworldly clothes making her stand out among people. the way she moves makes it embarrassing to stand beside her. she seems so... perfect in everyone's eyes. unfortunately, that includes ayato's. you don't remember having a guest in ayato's schedule when you were fixing it, so why's she here?
you found out the answer really quickly. everyone at the estate has been talking about her and... ayato lately. you don't know why though, which is weird- because as his assistant you should be the first to know about things regarding him. it's even weirder that ayato had not summoned you after work has ended. 'is this where our afternoon tea sessions end?' you thought to yourself. so you found it upon yourself to just be straightforward and ask others what's the gossip all about. luckily, there was another servant nearby. she quickly leaned closer to you and whispered.
"h-haven't you heard?... it seems that lord ayato had taken a liking to lady ayaka's guest."
you were surprised. really. it wasn't even his guest yet he bothered to entertain her. just who is she?
"who-... who is her lady's guest?" you nervously questioned.
"I heard it was... the traveler? was it? lord ayato visited her personally! they're just so perfect with eachother!- i can't help it." the servant squeals in excitement, contrary to your look in horror. you try not to make it obvious though. but you shouldn't even be feeling this way. why does it hurt? there's a sharp feeling on your chest that you just can't get out of. it just hurts to know the reason why he stopped your afternoon tea sessions, dinner hangouts, or just even talking with eachother is because of another girl! you were in no place to get frustrated since you were just a servant. nothing more, nothing less. to him.
you only see him through work now. the urge to invite him to a tea break and have a conversation with him while watching the sunset is getting stronger everyday. and who are you to resist?
"lord ayato... wou-" before you could even finish your sentence, he stopped you. your heart was beating so fast. 'oh no. did I do something wrong?' thoughts like these were circling through your mind.
"i told you to just call me 'ayato' y/n"
--and he chuckles a bit at the end. and so do you. you felt so... relieved. your worries instantly washed away. you felt at ease knowing that you are special to him. i mean- he doesn't do this with others does he?
"ah- my bad... but as I was saying, would you like to have some afternoon tea break with me? I mean, we used to do that everyday but it has been a while since we last did soo..."
and at this point you were so sure he wouldn't decline. he's been less busy this week, what could he possibly do that's far too important to even refu-
"my apologies, y/n. i've already scheduled a tea break with someone else this afternoon. maybe next time if i have the time. i promise i'll make it up to you. however, you could accompany us if you would like." and your mind. empty. the world seems like it stopped for you. not only was your only time to hang out with him gone but you were also replaced. all this time... he was with someone else. you had a gut feeling of who that someone else might be. but you couldn't hold a grudge, you have no right to.
"i-... i look forward to it." nope. you absolutely don't, look forward to it. that day will eventually come though. you just didn't expect it to come, three days later. how quick. you were filled with mixed of different emotions. you hate to admit it- but... you are jealous of who this person might be. but at the same time you're glad to just see ayato again! sadly, for work. when he summoned you, you thought-- 'oh is this finally it? will we finally hang out together again?' until you realize it's just that you will just accompany him to go to a somewhat date with someone else. compared to you and ayato just drinking tea at the estate's balcony, he had prepared so much as to have tea and snacks at the shore. alas, you could finally meet this person. once again. as you realize it was her. the traveler.
"traveler, did you wait long? i'm sorry, you could've ju..."
and their conversation went deaf on your ears. the ayato kamisato. speaking informally, and giving out tea invitations to the traveler. when it used to be you... why are you feeling like this? isn't it obvious. the traveler is way prettier, stronger and better than you. comparing yourself to the traveler is already such an embarrassing thing to do. no one could compare to her. she's out there defeating monsters and fighting archons. while you're here holding a grudge on a person who doesn't even know you just because you're jealous you were easily replaced. but who were you to be replaced when you weren't even his to begin with. this is why you feel guilty. because you think that you have no right to feel this way. it's just now that you realize how much of an overthinker you are. however your thoughts were cut short when you hear ayato calling out your name.
"y/n, i'll go to to the comfort room for a bit. please entertain the traveler while i'm away."
he says.
"understood." and so you take a seat at ayato's chair before. and despite not wanting to have a talk with the traveler, it is still your duty and you would not abandon it for just some mere feelings.
"greetings, i'm y/n. it's a pleasure to meet you traveler." you bow slightly and give the smile you usually show to guests. a smile you practiced countless of times infront of a mirror. "you might have not heard about me though. so allow me t-"
"oh i know. you're ayato's personal assistant. he mentioned it to me before." the traveler states. and you were genuinely shocked but also... curious.
"is that so?... then, has he said any other things about me before?" you nervously asked. though the nervously part may not be obvious to others. the traveler sees right through this. and she giggles. but nods. "would you mind serving me some tea? the tea ayato has been serving me is delicious however i've tasted it countless of times from our past tea parties. so I would like to have a different flavor this time."
the word 'countless' implies that they have been doing this for a while now and you already know that. but it still stirs a feeling of jealousy inside you.
"of course. luckily i brought a different tea flavor for myself as well. let me go get the ingredients from my bag." you return after brewing the tea and pouring it into the cups. how thoughtful that the traveler had already prepared the cups for you.
"this tastes a lot like lavender... melon." the traveler says.
"hm. because it is. you have a great sense of taste." you reply. from this point and so on, you don't really know what to talk about. the atmosphere is really awkward. but you still try to strike up a conversation because she is a guest.
"s-so... what brings you here to the kamisato estate?" you ask. in which the traveler replied with "originally, ayaka invited me. and ayato next." you don't know if it's just your eyes playing tricks on you or did the corner of her mouth raise upwards for a bit. you brush it off. maybe the grudge you have on her is going too far. i mean, it's not like you hate her though. but it's also not like you like her.
by now you've almost finished your tea. same goes for the traveler. you only had to endure a little bit more of this atmosphere and her because ayato should be back soon. so you lowered your guard and relaxed a bit. this whole time you only stared at your teacup, but it wouldn't hurt to take a glimpse at the traveler right? so slowly but hesitantly, you lift your eyes up to see her. already staring at you. but you couldn't break away from the eye contact. especially because she just asked you something you're also asking yourself.
"y/n. tell me. do you like ayato?"
despite having a smile on her face as she asked this, her tone was rather cold. it sent shivers down your spine. you don't know why she's asking this. but you also don't know the answer to that question.
...do you like ayato?
"I'm..."
that was the last thing you said before you went unconscious. before that, your vision went blurry and your head was getting dizzy. how could this be? all the years you've spent serving the kamisato clan, this has never happened.
a loud ringing on your ears forced you to wake up, you could hear numerous voices as you slowly opened your eyes. your vision was still blurry but you could figure out that someone was huge was standing before you.
"it's awake."
'it's? what do these people take me for'. --is what you would have thought when you realized you've been kidnapped and the kidnappers are a group of nobushis. you look at your surroundings, counting just how many they are until you finally notice someone beside you. the traveler. she's still unconscious. looking at her made you realize that you're also tied up and is unable to speak. screaming is no use. you seem to be in a... cave? you're not so sure because you don't remember a cave this huge at inazuma. you try to recall what happened and why you ended up here until you heard something a nobushi said.
"ya think he's coming here?"
"i heard he fancies these two. of course he will."
he? who's he? considering they kidnapped you and the traveler, don't tell me they're talking about him. not lord aya--
"oh well look who's here."
your eyes widen in shock when you turn to the direction they're facing. he's standing right there. ayato kamisato has come to save you. ...and the traveler. something moves beside you and you see the traveler, already awake, with tears in her eyes. isn't the traveler supposed to be strong and mighty? you don't understand, how were they able to kidnap her. in what situation was she in for her to become so vulnerable and be captured? i mean before all of this she was only with you-- !! your eyes widen. you saw ayato, ...glaring at you.
why was he glaring? you were in a pitiful situation right now, yet he glares at you as if you commited a crime. you can't believe it but... 'don't tell me thinks... i poisoned the traveler.' archons. he definitely thinks just that. the way his eyes softens as he looks to the girl beside you confirms so.
"give us the document. maybe we'll let both of them go." one of the nobushis spoke up. documents? what documents are they talking about? you handle all the documents for ayato, could it be he's been keeping something from you? are they comparing lives to a piece of document? surely ayato would-
"no. ...who sent you?" his voice cold as ice. the world has been surprising you a lot today. how important could that document be for it to be able to compare to a person's life. "straightforward i see... too bad, if you don't give us the documents any time we'll kill both of your precious little friends and this place will blow up soon." one of the nobushis spoke up again, it was the same guy as earlier. normally, ayato would be able to beat a few nobushis on his own. but he's way outnumbered right now. for some reason he knows that you and the traveler was taken here, yet he still came alone. you look beside you and see that the traveler is now crying. compared to the mighty traveler you seem to be too calm. you shouldn't be, in a situation like this. is it because ayato is now here? although he probably hates your guts already. but you just trust him way too much.
"...not giving in eh? then let's see..."
the nobushi paused for a moment, seemingly thinking about another way to make ayato give in and for them to gain something out of him. the nobushi smirked.
"...if you give us some mora... we'll let ya choose one of them to go with. give us the documents, you all can go home safe and sound. give us none and... you'll die with them." and finally, you felt... fear. your heart was racing. you didn't know it was this bad. earlier you already knew that you're this close to death's door but you weren't panicking at all. you also don't mind dying if it was for ayato. from an early age you already knew that you had to serve and protect their clan no matter what-- even if you have to pay the price of your own life. so why panic now? is it because the nobushis are going to far with their negotiations? is it because you're knocking right at death's door? or maybe it's because you're afraid that ayato will abandon you. choosing someone else, right infront of you in a critical situation like this. but surely he wouldn't, right?
" ...traveler," he throws a pouch of mora to the ground towards the nobushis. you remember when you both were strolling around at inazuma city after dinner. when he mentions that ever since he saw you looking through the stalls but not buying anything, he figured he'd buy them for you. so he always carried a pouch of mora. for you... and not for anyone el-
".. let's go." what? are you hearing things right? but judging by the way they pull the traveler and untie her, it seems that you are. but you wish you weren't. it turns out he really would choose someone else. the traveler lunges to embrace ayato. seeing ayato slowly hug her back, patting her back to calm down her tears and letting her cry on his shoulder just made your broken heart break even further. you get it. with the traveler's back facing you as they embrace, you take a glimpse of ayato until his gaze lands on you.
" ...y/n..."
his tone was somewhat... soft. you assume on a lot of things and right now you don't wanna expect but, you are. is this his last words to me? is he telling me he's sorry? is he gonna tell me how he regrets doing this? and that he never really wanted this to happen? and that i'm someone special to him, viewing me more than just a serv-
" --how dare you."
...and his gaze turns dark. what for? you didn't even do anything. his eyes glares at you as if you both were never friends. or maybe you were never really a friend to him. and he always thought of you as a mere servant. just like the rest. you were just- too naive. so foolish. thinking you were special. special just because he went looking for you and bought medicine and special rare tea in a day when you were sick for work. special cause he always invited you for tea breaks, conversing with you and only you. special because he always relies on you, and you allowed yourself to be relied on, --when you had no one to rely on for yourself. was those years of being with him nothing for him? was it that worthless in his eyes? that you could just be replaced and abandoned any time? you thought you were someone special in his life when he treated you differently compared to others.
but what about the way you treat him?
you treat him as if you were nothing without him. because he was everything to you. you were only this happy with him. only him. if you think of the most memorable memory you've ever had, it would include him. the day you first met him, and today. the last day you're seeing ayato. you watch them slowly turn their heels to leave. and all of a sudden you spoke. you couldn't help it, you spoke without even thinking. and now you don't know what to say. or maybe-- you just don't want to say it.
"a-ayato..." 'did you ever think if me as more than a friend?'... heck- more than a worker even. you wanted to ask just that. but you wouldn't. cause you couldn't. "...thank you, but I did nothing wrong." you say as you smile. that was your final words before the traveler and ayato takes more steps towards another path, probably leading to the exit. you hesitantly and slowly lift your eyes up to take one. last. look to ayato and... the traveler. and last time your eyes were playing tricks on you, but now you realize it wasn't. cause she was smirking again. smirking at you. leaving you to death.
anger. shame. resentment.
fury rises inside of you. you were raised to be patient with others. it was your job. so you've never felt this way for someone before. you wanted to scream but you couldn't. all you could think about was the traveler.
...the traveler!! the traveler!! the traveler.
it was all because of her that you're in a state like this. ever since she came, things changed. she was the person ayato replaced you with. the person he chose to spend the rest of his life with. and the reason why he threw away all of his memories with you and treated you like nothing. he chose a girl he just met instead of a childhood friend companion who has done nothing but pledge loyalty to him. now that you think about it... for ayato you would risk your life for him, die for him even. but he wouldn't do that for you. he only showed up for the traveler when you thought he came to save you.
it felt like your world was crumbling right before your eyes, watching them walk away, leaving you to death. you could mean that literally since anytime now you might be reduced to nothing but also... ayato is your world. to you he is everything. growing up with him, growing with him. he really is that special to you.
too bad,
he doesn't even see you as anything more than a servant. to him you were, not. special. at. all.
their footsteps has slowly faded away. they left. they've left you. behind, to die. it seems... this is it. you hear the nobushis chuckling and talking amongst eachother,
"geez... what a show! anyway.., are the preparations complete?"
"really? then we could go!"
"where did she say we would meet her again?"
"that bitch... making us do all of this. if it weren't for the mora then I wouldn't have agreed."
her? who's her? who's she? these thoughts seem all too familiar, and once again, you got your answer quickly.
"oh the traveler asked us to meet her at jinren island." a nobushi replied. just when you thought your hatred for her couldn't get any worse. however your thoughts were completely cut off when the nobushis all started leaving you. not even batting a single eye. you remembered them mentioning something that would leave you to ashes here. what was it again? if you recall quickly it was probably a-- "a bomb," --a nobushi says to you. as if he could read your mind. "a few minutes from now, once we all leave, this place will get wrecked. including... you." the nobushi laughs. you have never been this lonely before. i mean, you always had ayato beside you. but now that he personally left you for someone else- who do you have now? you have no answer for that. or maybe it is the answer. nothing. no one is there to help you. your reason to live is gone. atleast, you served your life's purpose before you die. you were never really that close to others including your family because of ayato. so you have nothing to lose now. but... you wish you could atleast take revenge on the traveler... even though you hate that idea. revenge isn't something you would even consider but.. the traveler is a different case.
today has given you particularly a lot of last things. like your last thoughts just now. before feeling a strong burst of energy and the brightest light you've ever seen. and everything turns dark.
...your eyes are closed and you can't move your body. but you're hearing something... footsteps? oh, a voice.
" ...how pitiful,"
you fall into deep sleep once again after feeling such an electrifying strike on your back.
... just who was that?

happy birthday ayato💞

➳ pairings: arranged marriage!kamisato ayato x virgin wife fem!reader ➳ wc: 1.8k ➳ cw: not proofread, fingering, squirting, unprotected, breeding if u squint, marking, mentions of "traditional" wife roles, arranged marriage, size kink if u squint, lmk if i've missed any! ➳ synopsis: you married the yashiro commissioner a little less than a year ago.
it was arranged, of course. you were always told ever since you were a kid that it would be your duty to get married and to be a good wife for your husband, taking lessons on embroidery, cooking, cleaning, and even more—you were prepared for marriage, but it seems ayato didn’t share the same sentiment.
when you first got married to him, he never showed any sign of displeasure, nor did he actually resist this arrangement. but he also never acted like a husband towards you. you didn’t even consummate your marriage! you remember that night so vividly, you were waiting in your room after your wedding ceremony, dolled up with beautiful lingerie to match, but he never showed up. you waited and waited even until the sun had risen, and it was only then did the tears come out of humiliation. his message was obvious and you weren’t one to ignore what he was saying, but you also didn’t want to create a bad relationship between you two.
despite the shame you felt, you bit your tongue and tried to at least be civil with him. it’s not as if he was actually mean to you, he just had no interest in actually making your marriage feel… well, like a marriage. and you knew that, you knew that all too well, but it was the moments when he would wipe the sweat off your brow after you helped thoma clean the estate, when you would bring him a coffee at night while he was still hard at work and he would ask you to join him for a little break—it was the little things that he did that make your heart flutter despite there being no romantic intent behind his words and actions. and so you, perhaps stupidly, ended up falling for him. it gave you hope that maybe you can make your marriage into a real one.
so when his birthday came around this year, you were determined to do something special for him. it was the least you could do, especially considering that he saw it in him to do something for yours as well, even if it was just a gift (although expensive), you were still touched. it would only be right of you to do something for him, right? asking thoma and ayaka to assist, you made sure his schedule would be clear for the day. making him only his favorite foods and his favorite boba, taking him to ritou to show him a new bookstore you thought he’d like, ending the day by taking him to a hotel you’ve booked for the night and giving your gift to him.
you both sat on the tatami floor as you pulled out the special shogi set you’ve commissioned just for him. you knew how much he enjoyed playing shogi—even if he does play most of the time with his back facing the board—you thought that he’d appreciate a nicer shogi set than the one he’s been using. he traces his hand against the pearly white pieces, accented with a touch of blue, and he smiles fondly. you’re just so sweet to him. a good wife, all for him. he just has to reward your behavior, doesn’t he?
he reaches out to you, pushing a strand of hair out of your face and you blush in response. he chuckles a bit, you’re a pretty little thing, aren’t you? he pulls you in for a kiss, the first once since the two of you have gotten married, and you already feel your head getting a little foggy. you can feel his tongue prodding at your lips and you let him in, feeling his soft lips get hotter and hotter with each kiss. he pulls away momentarily before lifting you up, bringing you to the king sized bed. he trails kissing along your neck to your exposed collarbone, leaving a few marks along the way as your breathing begins to get heavy. he gets rid of your pesky kimono, baring your body to him as he takes in the sight. it was truly unfortunate that he had to be so stubborn in the earlier stages of your marriage—if only he got to see this sight sooner, maybe you would’ve been pregnant by now with the heir to the kamisato clan.
you whine for him to continue kissing you and he obliges, playing with your breast as he rolls your nipple against his gloved fingers. he pulls away again, removing his gloves with his teeth and promptly presses his lips against yours, massaging his bare hand across your stomach, towards your cunt. you jump in surprise when you feel his calloused fingers against your clit, softly rubbing figure eights.
“tell me,” he says in between kisses, his voice quiet, “what is it that you want me to do…?” he watches as your eyes widen at the question, your hand tugging at his jacket.
“i’m yours, so…” you avert your eyes, embarrassed by what you’re about to say next, “please do as you like…” he smiles at your obedience, completely satisfied by your answer. he couldn’t have a wife more perfect than you, and it was about time he rewarded your patience.
he presses his fingers on your entrance, feeling how wet you became with just a few kisses. it was wrong of him, he supposes, to keep you waiting for so long. but it’s alright, he’ll make it up to you tonight. he pushes a finger in as it slides in easily and you moan, it’s just one finger, but it’s already more than what you’ve been doing to yourself for the past several months, you can just imagine how he would feel inside you entirely. he takes your other nipple into his mouth and pops in another finger, caressing them skillfully against your walls and you cum. you’re shocked, embarrassed, even. because yes, you are a virgin, but you’ve also never came with just penetration before, let alone this quickly, but ayato seems to have other thoughts. he feels the last bit of his chivalrous nature snap when he saw you cum just from two of his fingers and he needs to take you now.
he makes quick work of his clothes and tosses them somewhere on the floor of your hotel room, discarded and forgotten. you feel his head prodding at your hole and you’re surprised by the sheer size of his length. you were simultaneously scared and needy—you’ve never taken in anything more than two or three of your own tiny, thin fingers—you weren’t quite sure how ayato was planning on fitting inside of you. he sees your hesitation and worries, and god, you’re just so adorable, it was turning him on even more. he just wants to absolutely ruin you, to make sure you check out tomorrow morning with his seed deeply sowed in you, dripping out onto your thighs as you squeeze them together to keep it inside of you.
he kisses your temple gently, telling you to not worry, that he’ll take care of you as he pushes his cock in slowly, making you focus even more on the stretch. when he bottoms out, you feel so, so full, and you’re just so sensitive, considering you came not too long ago. he groans against the crook of your neck at how tight you are, fitting around him like a glove. you’re just absolutely perfect for him, the way you hug his cock so nicely, he’s sure to get addicted. he’s just concerned that one night at this hotel might not be enough.
he begins thrusting into you, his strokes long, fast, and hard, making you moan so loud that the entire floor is bound to hear you. he always wondered what kind of noises you would’ve made, and they truly don’t compare to the real thing. he ponders on his regrets again before putting his attention back on you, moving to lick and suckle at any part of your body, throwing in a couple of bites here and there to mark you up officially as his. marks that he will have to remake every couple of days to make sure that they’ll always be there, always claiming you as his. he hits one specific spot that has stars swimming before your eyes, making you tighten against his cock, leaving a creamy white ring around him. he smirks, focusing his ministrations there and letting his hand roam towards your puffy clit, abusing the tiny nub as you’re brought to your second orgasm of the night, squirting slick against ayato’s abdomen.
you’re ashamed, thinking you’ve wet yourself as you go to cover your face with your hand, pushing ayato away with the other as he coos at you, telling you that it was cute, to not worry as he pushes your chest towards the bedding, raising your ass instead so he can enter from behind. he grabs your arms, pulling on them as he resumes thrusting into you, hitting even deeper than before and you can’t help but cry. it’s so, so much for your tiny, messy cunt that you’re just so overwhelmed by this new sensation, but it’s also so… so good. your head is spinning and ayato lets go of your arms, letting you fall onto the bed as he hugs your tiny frame from behind, feeling his toned chest flush against your back. it’s so intimate this way—never would you have imagined when you first got married to him that you both would be in this position now. his thrusts are getting erratic and he pushes a hand on your lower back, making your arch at an angle that allows the head of his length to kiss the tip of your womb with each thrust perfectly.
“i’m close,” he says breathily into your ear as you take a moment to process that he’s said something.
“w—wait—” you try to speak up, but suddenly he stills, his cock fully submerged as you feel something warm flooding inside you.
“we’re a married couple,” he reminds you, “shouldn’t this be the only way?”
after a few moments, he pulls out, some of his seed spilling out of you much to his displeasure as he turns you around, plunging his fingers in to fuck his cum inside of you and you scream. a taut knot quickly forms in your lower stomach and is just as quick to snap as you cum all over his hand. when he doesn’t take them out immediately, you gently push at his wrist and try to pull yourself away from him in hopes for a little bit of rest, but to no avail. he cages you against the wall, pushing in his already hardened cock again as he whispers something into your ear, but you’re too far gone to catch what he’s saying.

Genshin guys as dads 🤭
in honour of finally getting off my ass and finishing mondstat, i bring you genshin men as dads <3 i decided to challenge myself and write for characters i haven't written for at all yet
the reader is gender neutral (u can interpret that the kid was adopted or u can interpret that the kid is biologically yours)
Yk the more i read these guys' lines to get a better idea of their characters the more i think they need a therapy session stat
Characters featured: Diluc, Alhaitham, Childe, Ayato

౨ৎ‧₊˚ ⋅ Diluc Ragnvindr
"Diluc! Diluc, are you in here?" you knocked before opening the door to his office, assuming he's probably there. You were finally returning to the winery late in the evening and wanted to see how your daughter and husband were doing.
Tonight, they should both be at the winery.
But to your surprise, the office was completely empty. You haven't heard a single peep from your daughter yet, either. Usually she'd be running around and yelling, even if she wasn't with Diluc.
You went upstairs to check your bedroom and were met with a most adorable sight when you opened the door. Your daughter was very peacefully asleep, drool and all, on Diluc's chest. Diluc did not seem very pleased with this arrangement, however.
"Welcome home." he sighed upon seeing you walk to the side of the bed.
"Looks like someone's on pillow duty." you teased him, petting your daughter's head.
"Don't make fun of me. She's been running around all day with seemingly no end to it. Sometimes I'm surprised at what her tiny legs are capable of." he leaned his head back, looking up at the ceiling.
"She said she's not tired at all. But she fell asleep almost instantly when she sat on top of me to, umm... bother me." to anyone else, Diluc would seem like he hates this kid with how much he says she bothers or annoys him, but you know that isn't the case.
Whenever she runs up to him to show him something she did, he pats her little head lovingly. He keeps the drawing she made of him in his office, even if he is a bit concerned at how grumpy he looks in her artistic interpretation.
"I wasn't making fun of you... Okay, maybe a little bit." you leaned down, cupping Diluc's face and kissing his cheek. He hummed in dissaproval, but his cheeks turned pink anyways.
"Would you mind joining me? If I can't... I want to know that you're safe, atleast." his eyebrows were creased in worry. You don't know what for, exactly, but you gladly joined him on the bed, hugging him too.
"Is your aim to suffocate me further?" the combined weight of about a quarter of your body and his daughter was not the most freeing in the world.
"No, I just happen to understand the appeal of sleeping on top of you." and you really do. It's always so warm and homey.
"You've worked hard today, dad." you moved some stray hairs out of his face. His tired eyes met yours for a moment before they slipped shut. Hehehe, you need to take a photo of this.
౨ৎ‧₊˚ ⋅ Alhaitham
(let's pretend you live together with him now instead of kaveh haha)
"Dad doesn't love me!" the sudden accusation had you turning your head fast, wanting to know what was going on. "What did he do, sweetie?" the little pout on her pudgy face was adorable.
She ran up to you and hugged your leg. "You still love me, right?" she seemed very worried about your reply. It seems like she isn't in the mood to give a proper answer to your question, though.
"Of course I do. You're very very very special to me." You pat her head gently. She seemed satisfied with your reply, giggling happily at you before running off to play.
.
When Alhaitham returned home that day, he attempted to interact with his daughter, as he tries to every day, but he was utterly ignored.
He looked to you, hoping you'd know the reason, but you just shrugged. "She says you don't love her anymore."
"Hm..." was his only reply.
"That's because he doesn't! I told him 'I love you' yesterday but he didn't say it back!" Your daughter crossed her little arms, scowling at her dad before turning around so she didn't have to look at him.
"So it was that." Alhaitham seemed like he understood the situation properly now. And you realised what happened too, because it happens to you occasionally.
"Sweetie, listen. Your dad likes to wear these thingies in his ears. And when he wears them, he can't hear a thing." You explained in the most child friendly way you could.
"Not even an explosion?" Your daughter finally turned back to look at you and Alhaitham, though her eyes were fixated firmly on you.
"Nope. Nothing at all. When he didn't say 'I love you too' yesterday, it was because he was wearing them and couldn't hear." Your daughter turned her head back with an annoyed 'hmph', but you knew she was listening to you.
"So I propose a hug attack. Whenever you see him wearing them." You smiled evilly, glancing at Alhaitham who shot you a dissaproving glare in return.
"Leave me alone." Your daughter huffed, stomping off down the hallway. Oh well, kids don't always think critically, do they? You have a feeling she's already forgiven him a little, though.
"Children make no sense to me." He admits, and you finally greet him properly with a little welcome home peck.
"That's the fun in it, though." You smiled at him and to your surprise, he smiled right back. As awkward as he can get with the kid, he loves her a whole lot.
౨ৎ‧₊˚ ⋅ Childe
"Mhhhh... what is it?" he mumbled in annoyance when he felt his hand getting shook. His voice sounded quite raspy now.
"Dad... Dad..." turns out it was your son who was pulling on Childe's arm. He looked like he was about to burst into tears any second, now.
As soon as he saw the distress on his son's dimly lit face, his attitude changed and he was overcome with the sudden urge to take revenge on something or someone. Maybe it's the dad instinct.
"I had a nightmare.... I'm scared..." your son sobbed.
By this point, even you woke up, but your body was still mostly asleep, so you were just listening in.
"Come up here." Childe tapped the bed and your son awkwardly climbed up into his arms.
"Was it a scary monster?" Childe asked in an exaggerated scary voice. Your son nodded, gripping onto the front of Childe's shirt.
"In that case... you don't have to worry at all. I always love a challenge." you could practically see the smile on Childe's face. You turn over, opening your eyes slightly. You have to admit, the sight in front of you is adorable.
"What do you mean, dad?" your son sniffled, rubbing the snot away with his tiny hand.
"I'll fight the monster, of course. Oh, how wonderful it would be to see the b-" he winced a little bit when he felt the light slap on his face.
"Ajax, you'll scare him even more." you warned, your own voice raspy. You moved your other hand to ruffle your son's hair to comfort him.
"Ow, clearly, someone doesn't appreciate me enough." Childe rolled his eyes playfully.
Without warning, you lean forward and peck him on the lips. "There. Now I've evened out the slap."
"Just one peck? Well, I suppose we can't do much more right now... Hehe." Childe turned his attention back on your son, stroking his back gently to calm him down.
"Why do you have that look on your face?" you noticed he was smiling strangely.
"What look?" your accusations have been denied. But he sure does have a plan for you later.
౨ৎ‧₊˚ ⋅ Kamisato Ayato
"DAD! Look at where I am!" Your son shouted from somewhere in the tree that was stood in the beautifully maintained garden.
Being the little rebel he is, he climbed the tree despite you telling him multiple times not to.
"Please get down from there. It's unsafe." Ayato tried to reason with him calmly upon noticing him in the treetops.
"Nah, it's so cool up here! I can see the whole estate!" Sometimes, your son's stubborn nature made it hard for him to get along with Ayato. This is one of those cases.
"This is not a joking matter. You could get seriously hurt." Ayato doesn't think he could properly live with himself for a bit if his kid got hurt when he could have prevented it.
"What's going on here?" You joined in, happening to pass by the garden.
"He won't come down. I'm... worried about him." He admits, crossing his arms. Though you do sense a bit of annoyance behind his voice, too.
"Come down. I told you not to climb that tree so many times." You crossed your arms firmly. Your son looked at Ayato's face, then yours and sighed, beginning to descend from the tree. He'd rather avoid a scolding. But his little foot slipped and he suddenly tumbled to the ground.
"Son!" Both of you immediately ran to his side as he started wailing. "Call for healers. Immediately." He seemed fine, looking at him initially, but he might have a broken leg or something.
Both of you stayed by his side the whole time, offering him words of comfort (and a bit of a scolding). It seems like something like this happens almost every week, now. The Kamisato household has certainly gotten livelier ever since getting blessed with your son.
.
"Well, that was certainly an afternoon." You huffed, sitting down behind the table across Ayato.
"I wish he wasn't so reckless and disobedient, sometimes." Ayato held his cheek in worry. He let his son get hurt, again.
"He got that mischief from you." You smiled innocently, sipping your tea.
"Whatever do you mean, dear?" He smiled innocently back.
"I miss days of solitude. We only have moments now. I suppose my life hasn't been a calm one for a long while now, though." He sips his own tea, looking outside at the sunset. Working as hard as he does every day is taxing on the soul.
"Guess we gotta make the most of it." You stood up, sitting back down next to him and playfully pecking his cheek.
"Oh, I see what you mean." He returned the mischevious smile you know and love. Just as he grabbed your waist, though...
"LOOK WHAT I HAVE!" Your son burst into the room, holding a sword. His sword.
"Aren't you supposed to be resting?!"

「Way Back Into Love」 Kamisato Ayato
↳ In which you found yourself back in your teenage years. Determined to live your life as it was, you went with the flow in order not to disturb anything. So why the hell was your old forbidden love in your first life ended becoming your fiance on present times? Wasn't he supposed to be your sister's fiance? Where did your friend go? Will you be able to attain the freedom you once had and was still longing for? (Warning: Self harm thoughts)

i. The Night We Met
Staring at the pouring rain outside the window, you cannot help but to look away and clear your messed up mind. It felt like you were about to loose your mind, refusing to acknowledge the predicament you are currently in as you refuse to believe that this is your reality now.
"Young Lord (First name) all preparation were ready for you to meet your fiance." "Alright, I'll be ready in just a minute. I'll be right in there in a minute." "We'll wait here and take you there young lord." Their reply was something you have already heard a long time ago, scared that you'll run away that you could not help but to roll your eyes as your maids continue to fix your outer layer of yukata.
You cannot believe that you are once again eighteen, back in this hellish house, in this trashy and messy situation living your second life. How the hell did you even end up in this situation? Why make you go through the very same situation you'd rather die than to go back into? Nevertheless, it seemed like nothing have changed. Therefore everything would be okay.
In the past, you used to hate this house very much. But looking back not that your here on the very same situation as you were in the past. Maybe it was just an exaggeration. It wasn't the house that you hate, it was the feeling of suffocation that you hate. The fact that you were suppressed by the expectations, the rules, the duties tied to you all because you were the first born. The feeling that upon leaving this household you never thought you would get to feel once again.
And yet here you are. Living your second life the same way as you did in the past. It would have been great if you had come back a few years to come, when you make it out of Inazuma but damn. Here you are still stuck in this household. But that won't be for too long. You are eighteen now, you left not too long after this. All because you got engaged with the right person. Come to think of it, Lance hasn't been repling to your letter and although it was not unusual, he should still reply. Did something happened-? "Young Lord, we have arrived as the recieving area."
It was raining but not as heavy as it was earlier. "Was it raining back then?" "What is it young l-" "Nothing, open the door." Doing as they are told, the serverts went to open the door as you walk in. In the middle of the room was a table with a falling beads curtain in the middle of it, preventing to see who was one the other side. Even the room was in the same set up as it was in the past. Without thinking too much about it, you sat down on the futton elegantly. No matter how close you are with your childhood friend, your father has eyes and ears everywhere.
Without a word, the servants on the side came close into the table and started serving the two of you sake differently which was pretty strange. In the first place, there was in no need of a servant, even in the past there was no one around the two of you. What was different this time? Nevertheless, you took the now filled with sake cup and reach out to the other side of the curtain. Even without a word it felt nice to think that it was your bestfriend, the who look and help you to get away from this place to get married. So when an arm reachout and warp around yours to intertwine, you gulp your sake without second thought.
Just like that the engagement ritual was done like it did in the past. So why the hell won't this guy speak? "Why-?" "I see the two of you were finally done with the ceremony." It was your father followed by someone you have never seen before but looks somehow familiar. It wasn't until he was out of your father's shadow that you manage to recognise who it was. "This is the first time I have seen the young lords face close in person. I hope my son have shown nothing but hospitality." What? Wait a minute, what is he doing in here? Isn't he... wasn't he supposed to be dead? No wait a minute, was he dead around this time? Was it before or what is after? Nevertheless, something is wrong.
"Haha judging by the look on their faces, it seemed like the two have yet to introduce themselves around each other." "That make sense, my son was quite the alo-shy type so he wasn't that much of a talkative person..." You did not hear what they were saying, you were just focused on the man across you as the servants went and remove the curtain that separates you and your now fiance. It took a lot, a lot of will power and consciousness to keep and control your facial expression. What in the shit is happening?
Before you knew it, the two of you were in a banquet, sitting right next to each other as the nobles and upperclass families of Inazuma chatter right in front of the two of you. You were just in daze, confused and to be honest quite scared of the unfolding events. It felt like yoj were about to breakdown. This isn't what was supposed to happened. He- he shouldn't be the one who was supposed to be here. He-
"Are you alright?" No. You never felt so lost and confused your whole life. "Yes." You lied, refusing to look at him and keeping your eyes on the crowd. "What about you? This must be new to you. Aren't you nervous?" "It's not 'you'." "Huh?" That made you look at him and upon doing so, it felt like deja vu. The way everything went slow, the way the world seemed to stop. "It's Ayato. Kamisato Ayato." "(First name)" You replied instinctively. "(First name)(Lastname)." You utter, offering a hand, hoping for a hand shake when he took it and bring it closer and closer to his lips causing you to went stiff as his lips pressed upon it. Goddammit. "It was a pleasure to meet you." You smile before looking away from him. Why does it have to be him out of all people?
You could feel your head throbbing, your heart aching. Whether it was due to long distant memories, the feeling of suffocation didn't lessen, if possible, it felt even worse. Like someone was stabbing you in the chest while choking the shit out of you. It felt weird because you shouldn't have felt this way. The two of you parted ways in a complicated yet peaceful ways. So why does it hurt to see him again? Why does it hurt to see him again? You don't know. In the first place, you shouldn't be feeling this way. After all, if it wasn't for this day, you would have still forgotten about him. All in the back of your mind, long forgotten.
It was raining the first time you have ever seen the one and only Kamisato Ayato on the first week when you first established your pub in Inazuma. The way the crowded pub full of chatter and laughter seems to have suddenly stopped as the ring of the bell have suddenly gain your attend as two gentlemen walks in.
The other one looked familiar, Thoma has been visiting the pub the first few days and have come to become a friend not only to you but also to your fellow bandmates as he have taken most of you and your friends interest upon expressing his interest in music. And the other one seemed mysterious, hood covering most of his face causing you to raise a brow in interest.
But the moment he pulled down his hood and his face and hair came into light, the way your (eye color) iris meet with a pair of lavender ones. Everything seemed to stop, everything seemed to go on a slow motion as the two of you were in your moment of daze. "(Alias name) this is the one I was talking to you about, My -" "Ayato." You blink as he was already right in front of you. "My name is Ayato." He smiled at you offering a hand in which you took. "It's a pleasure to meet you." Fuck, he was sooooo pretty. But with those eyes looking at you with what it seems like malice you cannot help but to wonder why.
You were about to speak, if he seemed to have a problem with you, why not properly talk about it? But by the time you were about to open your mouth, "(Alias name) it's you time to shine." Forget everything, singing always comes first as the rest of the band come into the small stage inside the pub. Well, such matter could always be address later. After all, by the time you made it back, the light blue hair guy named Ayato was no longer around alongside Thoma.
Everything is a fucking mess. It was a mess. Things aren't supposed to be like this. This isn't how things were supposed to unfold. "Fuck!" You were never the type to vent out your frustration into things, maybe that was the reason why your maids were dumbfounded upon seeing you so angry, you have thrown your ornaments upon entering your room to change outfit. "Call Lance." "But You-" "Did you not hear me?! Go and get someone from the Nohara clan and bring Lance to me!" When you saw them hesitate your anger could not helo but to rise again as you shout "NOW!"
You never felt so lost, so confused in your whole lifetime. You want to cry and break down at the same time you want to laugh. If you have known that that last breath of yours would bring you back into the past, you'll strive on to live longer in your former life. You should have not gone content on what you have. It felt like everything you have ever done has failed you and bring you back into this fucking hellish place, in this mess. Does that meann everything you have ever done and made was a futile? The freedom you longed for and archive was all for naught?
You felt like you were going crazy. Maybe you are crazy and everything was just your imagination. Come to think of it, you went back because you die. Would everything go back to what it was if you die again? What if- suddenly, the sharp end of your ornament caught your attention.
A flick on your forehead landed causing you to groan in pain as you glare at the man across you. "You're thinking of something terrible again. Did you hate losing that much?" Ayato spoke with a chuckle, leaning back into his seat as his eyes sent upon the shogi peaces right in front of the two of you. Rubbing your forehead in ache, you pout and move another piece in the board. "It's not like I hate it, I just don't like loosing." You utter and upon placing the piece only then did you realise "I lost." He declared with a sigh. "Why you-!" Before you could even rebut, he lean in close to you kissed you in the forehead. "Ayato!-" when he laugh and smile like that, how could you even get mad.
"(Nickname)." It was Lance, your childhood friend. "Why are you crying." He smile gently at you and he open his arms. "Lance-" You could not help but to throw yourself into his arms. "I- You- He-" "Hush, I know." You felt him run his fingers thru your hair. "I know (Nickname). I know. Everything will be alright." "Why does it have to be him, of all people. Why him." He could only pat you in the back. Coming into realization that you are not crying because you hate how things were turning out to be. Rather, you are crying because for once, you actually thought of it might not be idea to marry him. Even it that means losing the freedom you have been longing for.
On the other side, a man was humming a song inside a carriage when a man in horse stopped by the window side causing the man to pause his train of thoughts. "Young Master, a report just came in that the young master of the Nohara Clan have arrived and went inside the Young Lord's chamber-" The agent who repported could not help but to stop in his report as a shiver went down his spine upon seeing the face of his master. It felt like if he open his mouth, he will be killed. "Go on, why did you stop. Continue." "Tha- that. That is all the reports content, young master." "I see, then I want to rumors of than to come into surface. If everyone gets a word of it then I suppose you know of what to do no?" Dispose them. That is what he wants them to do. "Yes, young master." "You're dismissed."
Inside the carriage, silence echoed inside the space before the sound of a fan opening could be heard. "How annoying." The man run his hand through his light blue hair as his lavender eyes glare at the direction on your manor. "That fucking bastard just wouldn't leave them be." He grit his teeth. At the same time everything does make sense. He, that man was supposed to be your fiance after all. And he just came out of blue, at least to your point of view and snatch you away from your supposed to be fiance already. It already make sense that the bond between the two of you run deep.
"Patience Ayato. Patience. While it's true that he has them now, you had them too." He took a deep breath to calm himself down. "It's only a matter of time until you have them back in your arms." He told himself as he stare out the window. Right, God had given him a second chance to make the right choice. And this time, he'll have you in his arms.

A Love Untold

Warnings = smut🔞, dubcon, arranged marriage
Pairing = Kamisato Ayato x fem! reader
Word count = 1.9k words
Summary = Being forced into an arranged marriage with Kamisato Ayato, Ayato's feelings grew for you. But you wouldn't even face him, he decides to fix that one day.
Tried a new format, the story is being told from Ayato's POV. Enjoy.
December 23
“Y/N,” I called out. It didn’t take long until she appeared in front of me. She was wearing a red kimono that ended just below her knees.
“What do you need, hon?” she says, her voice soft, almost too soft.
“Can you fetch Thoma for me? I’ve got something to discuss with him,” I say to her.
She then walks away and quickly comes back with the blonde-haired man. I did not expect her to grow accustomed to me so quickly. Yet, seeing her interact so freely with Thoma stirs within me a sense of unease. Whenever I tried to talk to her, her demeanor was significantly different–there was always this distant unease in her every word and action. It’s like whenever she saw me, she would switch back to this feared soul. Why is she so different with him?
I called Thoma over and presented the festival plan with a mix of trepidation and relief. As Kamisato clan head, responsibilities weighed heavily upon me. Fortunately, Thoma's assistance support alleviated my concerns. On occasion, he would even take care of my wife when I was unavailable. I expressed gratitude for him multiple times, and every single time he would reject my praise, saying his stuff is hardly worth my praise. I didn’t agree with that but didn’t pester him any further.
Though, the thought lingered in my mind, wondering if my wife preferred Thoma over me. Brushing those thoughts away, I continued showing my ideas for the upcoming festival. Thoma and I went back and forth, giving each other’s opinions and ideas. He listened to mine and I listened to his.
After a lengthy discussion, we concluded the plans for the festival and I ordered him to send it over to the other commissions for their inputs. Observing as Thoma's left the room, my attention shifted to the approaching figure of my wife, engaging herself into a conversation with him. She did not show the same behaviour as when I talked to her. She seemed nice, excited and lively.
All traits I never saw from her. She always had this tired, defeated expression on her face when she came anywhere near me. And it always stung. Every. Single. Time.

December 25
Snow fell gently outside, and people were rushing to enjoy the winter season. I stood by the window, lost in thought as I admired the view. The past few days had been a blur—preparing for the winter festival had been exhausting. From arranging guests to planning activities, decorations, and managing it all, I barely had time to breathe. I worked around the clock to execute all the plans and it all worked out. The residents seemed satisfied at the winter festival this year. Even the Archon praised it.
Walking through the festival, feeling multiple gazes on me. I could hear everyone talking about what a great job I did. None of that mattered since all I could think about now was my beautiful wife, serving treats to the children passing by.
"Hey, princess, how's everything going?" I asked, watching her tense up immediately. Still scared of me, huh?
"I-I'm doing well, thank you. How about you?" Her eyes avoided mine, and I could feel her nervousness.
"I'm good. You're doing great—keep it up," I said, though the words felt empty coming out. It wasn’t how I wanted to sound, but it was the best I could manage right now.
"Thank you... And, uh, thank you for arranging all of this..." she murmured, almost too softly to hear.
My heart skipped a beat, and I found myself holding my breath. I paused for a second, strategizing how to respond. “U-uh of course,” I stuttered.
Without anything left to say, I walked away and started observing other parts of the festival, ensuring absolute perfection. Thoma had told me to relax for the festival, the planning was done and there was nothing left to do. I knew that… but I couldn’t help and critique the parts I wasn’t too satisfied with.
In the hours that followed, I spent most of the day navigating the festival, celebrating the arrival of winter. Despite already having fulfilled my duties, an unfamiliar weight gnawed at me. I couldn’t quite place it, but it lingered—persistent and frustrating. All I wanted was for it to vanish, but it was as if the more I tried to ignore it, the stronger it became.
That night, I found myself restless in bed, unable to silence the thoughts racing through my mind. I tossed and turned, the weight not shaking off, hindering both my quality and quantity of sleep. The more I tried to rest, the more it worsened, attacking at me with an intensity I couldn’t escape. I felt trapped and defeated.
—
December 26
The morning after the annual winter festival, I woke up feeling tired and groggy. Dark bags hung under my eyes, and my hair was a mess—hardly a good look for someone in my position as head of the Kamisato Clan and a member of the Yashiro Commission. As soon as Ayaka and Thoma saw me, they immediately asked if I was okay. As usual, I reassured them it was nothing, just a temporary illness, and they backed off without further questions. If I’m honest, I wanted to know the cause just as much as they did.
Today was supposed to be relaxing. There were no duties awaiting me, and no plans for the day. I returned to my bed, tucked myself in, and thus tried to catch up on sleep.
—
December 27
Suddenly, I woke up in the dead of night—1 a.m. The estate was eerily quiet. As I walked down the hallway, I heard a faint sound of someone talking. Moving quietly towards it, I peeked around the corner. It was Y/N, talking to Ayaka about her thoughts on our marriage. Upon hearing that, I started to listen more intently, eager to know her thoughts.
“I honestly don’t know what I think of him…” a voice said, I assumed it was my wife. The voice was soft and was unsure.
“I understand, but my brother is way better than you think. I promise you just need to give him a chance.” another voice stated.
“I-I… I just didn’t want to marry someone for money,”
“I promise no one thinks that you do,”
“Me, a random girl, marrying a super rich man. Doesn’t that make me sound like a gold digger?” she says. Hearing that, my heart ached. Hoping it wasn’t my wife, I continued listening through the wall.
“Please, stop thinking like this, it isn’t gonna help you at all,” the other voice responded, pleading with the other.
Then, I heard the door slam shut. The sound echoed through the quiet estate, sharp and sudden, like a burst of emotion turned into a forceful action. The intensity of it struck me, and I couldn’t help but theorize who it was. It wasn’t just the noise; it was the weight of it—the frustration, anger, or perhaps something deeper. The echo of that door slamming felt like a silent cry, one that couldn’t be ignored. My heart skipped a beat as I stood frozen, deciding to go back to my room and avoid the kitchen completely for the rest of the night.
Chirp chirp
The sound of birds filtered into the room, their song mixing with the soft rays of morning light sneaking through the window, almost blinding me. I dragged myself out of bed, making my way to the main room where Thoma, my wife, and Ayaka were. It wasn’t just the quiet atmosphere; I could feel their eyes on me, each of them waiting for me to acknowledge them, their gazes heavy with unspoken thoughts.
“What?” I spoke up, breaking the silence.
The silence dragged out and none of the three said anything but then my wife finally asked,“A-are you okay?”.
“Yep, no need to worry,” I answered, my voice croaking.
Seeing my horrible state, the trio avoided me for the rest of the day. I didn’t make an effort to interact with them, knowing it would only make things worse. The tension between us was palpable, but I couldn’t bring myself to bridge the gap. If anything, it felt like we were all better off keeping to ourselves.

December 31
It had been a few days since I overheard Ayaka’s and Y/N’s conversation. The conversation replayed over and over again in my mind, the guilty feeling inside me growing. Finally, I decided to take matters into my hands and I was officially going to try and mend my relationship with Y/N.
It was 11pm and Y/N was supposed to arrive home soon. She had recently been assigned to visit elderly residents to provide assistance, helping them with daily tasks or just offering company, a role she performed with care and dedication.
Click
There it was, the sound of her arriving home. I got up from my couch and went to greet her.
“Welcome back,” I said, towering over her.
Turning around, she was shocked by my sudden appearance and flinched backwards. This only made my mood worse.
“A-ayato..?” she muttered. “What are you doing up so late?”
“It’s only 11pm. What are you doing out so late?” I interrogated her. I knew what she was doing but I still wanted to know if she would tell me.
“I-I was out helping the elderly…”
Sighing, I wrapped my hands around her waist. Automatically, I closed the space between us and shared a kiss with her. Her hands landed on my chest and she only stood in shock, not returning my kiss.
Using my strength, I lifted her up and brought her to the bedroom. I placed her on the bed gently and locked the door behind me. She didn’t move and only watched as I got on the bed with her. I grabbed her legs and wrapped it around my waist.
“W-wait…” she begged. “I-I’m not ready…”
“I’ve been waiting too long for this... please” I begged as well.
Hearing no response, I swiftly unbuttoned her shirt and started fondling her breasts. They were hard and swollen. While fondling her breasts with one hand, my other was tugging on the waistband of her skirt. I pulled her skirt off and revealed her glistening folds. My fingers brushed over her hole and I suddenly pushed a finger inside her, pumping it in and out slowly. She moaned softly against her hand, covering her mouth.
“Don’t cover it… I want to hear you,” I told her.
Reluctantly, she put her hand down, placing them onto the bed. Still pumping my fingers in and out of her, I left a trail of kisses all from the neck down to her stomach. Her walls tightened around my fingers and she let out her orgasm.
Feeling proud, I pulled down my pants and took out my throbbing cock. It was so hard it was painful. She locked eyes with it, trembling with fear. I took hold of my cock and tapped the tip on her before shoving it in. Lust possessed me as I thrusted into her over and over again. The sound of my hips slapping onto her echoed through the room as I continued my assault on her.
“You feel so good… I-i’m about to…” I panted out before spilling my seed into her. “You’ll look so good pregnant hon…”
No response.
“And I’m gonna make sure you know that,”

Their greatest weakness!
Aka genshin’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes greatest weakness or biggest turn ons. The easiest way to get them riled up and ready.
Arlecchino
In general you just existing makes her feel more… greedy. But often are the children surrounding you with innocence and naïveté so she keeps her hands to herself most of the time. But sometimes she wishes she could just pick you up and carry you away. Oh seeing you being so motherly warms her heart.
But she has her needs and whenever you’re alone her hands are often all around you. The easiest way to seduce her is simply just showing a little neck. She lovesss to mark your neck, biting and smearing lipstick all over. You’ll have to wear a scarf or collared shirts after but its a small price to pay. In particular she’s fond of ribbons and lace. Especially around the chest. She likes the idea of being able to untie your clothes like unwrapping a present. She will do so slowly and gently of course, she would love to use the ribbon to bing your hands or block your eyesight.
Jean
She’s definitely the easiest to seduce. She’s oh so repressed. Even seeing you in a simple low cut dress showcasing even the littlest of cleavage will have her reeling. A great way to lure her to bed and to take a ‘rest is to simply wear a nightgown more low cut and sweetly ask when she’ll be coming to bed. She’ll be rushing through work as soon as she can. If possible she will just ditch the paper and go to you right away. Unable to focus now that she nows what she’s missing.
Diluc
Anything. The sight if your thighs, your neck, your cleavage, your belly, your hips. Oh anything that is you. He cannot help himself when you show even the smallest of skin. Once when you went to the beach with him he quickly pulled you to a more isolated part to ravage you. He couldn’t keep his hands to himself, you weren’t even wearing that lewd of a swimsuit but so much skin just sent him into frenzy. If you wore lingerie he would lunge at you almost immediately.
Ayato
He is much harder to seduce. Often he’s the one seducing you, his hands lightly tracing your skin to heighten your senses. He’s a big fan of blindfolds. So if you wear a sleeping mask he tends to get a bit mischievous. He won’t do anything if you’re unconscious unless you’ve given him permission to do so prior. Its not that he isn’t attracted to you, he simply has alot of self restraint
But to lure him from his office is difficult as he has a high self control. So subtle and innocent looks won’t work. He’ll know what you’re playing at. If you want to seduce him you have to commit and hard. Lingerie is a favorite of his. Especially if he catches sight of it under your clothes. The difficulty being that.. the get up you usually wear isn’t allowing of little peaks like that. So you have to be creative and direct. In general he likes begging. You will probably have to grovel too as you try to encourage him to come to bed with you. Then he will oblige.
Childe
Anything. If you’re with him he is likely obsessed with you. Like a drug any inch of you will drive him mad and wanting more. In his homeland however such revealing clothes are a liability. But oh how he lovessss your thighs. He often lays his head on them, bites them, squishes them, etc. thigh highs in particular will drive him insane. Stockings too. You could be wearing anything but if you’re wearing stockings or thighs highs it will drive him mad. You will not be walking straight.
Chlorinde
Ohhhhh despite her stoicism and professionalism she is down bad for you. Anything drives her crazy. She is great at hiding this though. In public she will simply maintain her usual professionalism. But in private? Oh she won’t be holding back. She won’t stop herself from taking what she wants where she wants. She can tell when you’re doing it on purpose. She is quite fond of gloves, lacy and transparent ones in particular. She loves to hold your hands in hers while in the act. Its such a intimate feeling to her. She loves lace in general but your hands are just so delicate to her. She loves feeling them on her too.
Thoma
Honestly touch is a big turn on to him. In particular light touches and body contact too. If you just pull his body close to yours, leaving no gaps in-between he’ll start to get flustered. If you sneak up behind him and start lightly touching him he’ll get all worked up and flustered. He’d be too embarrassed to do anything at work. That would take alot of seduction. He’d be pouting and trying so hard not to whimper as you easily would have him wrapped around your finger. He is easily aroused by the sight of your body. But if you start teasing him he’ll be following you like a dog on a collar
Wriothesley
Another thigh guy. He fuckin loves thigh highs an stockings too. He loves just ripping them off and burying himself in between your thighs. The best part to him is seeing you have to walk away in torn tights clearly showing what exactly you had been doing in his office. He loves mesh clothing in general because he loves just ripping it off. Like tearing wrapping paper off a box. He cannot resist it.

Part 1 here: " like lovers do "
Here's the continuation of a fan favorite, "like lovers do", I'm going to leave the actual plot of the fic a secret so you all can enjoy it while you read!! Special thanks to all the people who left comments basically begging me for a part 2 because that's what truly convinced me to write this LMAOOOO if you're looking for anyone to thank for this they are to blame
Fair warning, the content isn't quite as dark as it was before since a lot of people wanted to see the relationship between the reader and Ayato improve, but I also don't enjoy making the reader character complicit in forced relationships so there will still be a fair bit of resistance.
ONE LAST NOTE: i wrote and rewrote this like seven times, if the plot seems disjointed its cause I basically compiled all the different iterations to make the ultimate part 2 kthxbye
Cold.
It was really cold.
Why did Ayato feel so cold?
His eyes opened blearily, blinking rapidly to bat away the exhaustion. The room was dimly lit, like it always was. What should've been his marital bedroom was devoid of a husband, like it usually was in the morning. Ayato couldn't put his finger on it, but something felt wrong. He should've been used to an empty bed and an empty room by now, but the space still felt... desolate. Everything was in place, nothing had moved, the man was even in the same position he usually slept in. Yet despite all this, he felt cold and alone. Why was that?
He went to sit up, to rub the sleep out of his eyes, but instead of maybe a back ache from sitting up all day, he was confronted with an all-consuming pain shooting up his body. Not only that, he noticed when he peeled the covers off of himself he was completely naked.
Well, that explained why he was cold.
But why did he feel abysmally lonely?
His eyes swept over the room, looking for anything out of place, but he wasn't met with anything unusual. That seemed to be a no-go, but perhaps his memories of the previous night would become clearer if he actually got out of bed. Carefully, he swung his legs over the side of his futon, but was met with a strange numbness in his extremities and another wave of searing pain to shoot up his spine.
Things were only getting stranger the more he investigated, but it seemed his questions would be answered all too soon. The very moment his feet made contact with the ground, the brush of fabric startled him. He wondered if one of his blankets had gotten kicked off the bed in the night, but when he looked down to confirm his suspicions, the memories of the previous night stormed his mind like an angry mob.
'Oh.'
His cheeks automatically lit up a cherry red, realizing the 'suspicious fabric' he'd been stepping on was actually his own yukata. Y'know, the one his husband had taken off of him before they... engaged in a night of passion, for lack of a less vulgar term.
Just a few feet away from his clothing were yours, the same kimono he'd tugged off your shoulders, the same sash he'd watched you untie, the same pair of pants you'd left for work in the previous morning, all in a crumpled pile on the floor. He couldn't remember how the clothing specifically got on the floor, having recalled throwing it somewhere on the futon since the both of you were too impatient to properly undress.
The longer he pondered the happenings of the previous night, the more he lost sight of what he had been doing in the first place. Specifically, what he needed to do for the day. After all, the politics of Inazuma stopped for no god, much less any human.
Still, understanding why he felt so lonely didn't help the fact that he still felt lonely. You had been so open and intimate with him the previous night, did you just consider it to be some obligation you had to fulfill if you wanted to keep your family business going? It certainly didn't feel like you were as emotionally distant the night before. Ayato had basked in the glorious sunlight that was your attention, your affections even. You had not only ticked off the consummation box on the marriage contract, you didn't just stop at one round either.
It felt like he was married for once, not just inviting another guest into his home. He might have always worn his ring, caught sight of the matching one you wore when he caught a glimpse of you in the manor, but he had never felt anything close to the adoration and alert focus you'd showered him in the previous night. Even if it hadn't been exactly what he'd imagined for the night, it didn't change the fact that you had been there, in the bed when he'd fallen asleep.
When you'd first gotten married, the part of the day he looked forward to the most was falling asleep in each other's arms. You hadn't given him that satisfaction, but you not only let him hold you after sex, your own arms were cradling him close to your chest like a baby. He'd gotten to use your heart as a lullaby, to feel the burning hot skin on skin contact, the little circles you traced on the small of his back to help him fall asleep; all of it.
He'd hoped--as his eyelids began to grow heavier than lead--that even if exchanging your vows hadn't been the start of your marriage, perhaps yesterday was the true beginning of your relationship.
He knew it was wishful thinking, having sex for the first wouldn't be some kind of switch that flipped inside of you. You wouldn't start loving him just because the two of you had shared one night together, but he'd hoped it might have been the start of things. He'd hoped more than hope itself that maybe you would just barely crack open the gates to the forest containing the forbidden fruit that was your heart.
If he gave you his body on top of his eternal love and devotion, maybe you'd be open to giving him more than the cold shoulder.
He could feel a dismal sense of disappointment settling in his chest, the prospect of giving you all that he had and still not being enough. Maybe if he thought a little harder, he could come up with something to offer you. You had his heart, his body, his entire being, but maybe there was something else he could offer you. He just didn't know what it was yet.
His train of thought was immediately interrupted when the door to the room slid open.
He scrambled to cover himself with the various comforters laying next to him, not bothering to check who was at the door, but then he was met with a melodious chuckle.
His eyes darted to the doorway.
You were in a new yukata, hair completely drenched, and a used towel thrown over your shoulder. He spied your attempt to hide your smile behind the back of your hand. By now, his flush had died down, but the moment he caught sight of you, it returned tenfold. He burst into an electrifying scarlet and completely froze in his tracks like a nervous deer.
You closed the door behind you shortly after, smothering another laugh at his expense. You coughed behind a closed fist, unable to completely wipe the smug grin off your face. "Good morning."
"I-" Ayato tried to swallow some spit down his unbearably dry throat, just now realizing how parched was. "Good morning."
You crossed your arms in front of your chest, "Sorry if I scared you, I woke up feeling less than clean so I decided an early morning bath would be nice." You started walking towards a hamper of dirtied laundry, tossing your towel in before adding, "I didn't want to wake you up, you seemed exhausted yesterday."
"..."
You could only feel yourself smile wider the longer he struggled to answer. His mouth opened and closed like one of those fat koi fish you spied in town a couple weeks ago. The sly Kamisato Ayato was nothing but a flustered mess just from you walking into the room.
You began to notice a trend in what seemed to make you happy these days.
You tilted your head to the side a bit, pretending to look confused as you asked oh-so-innocently, "What?"
He finally seemed to put his thoughts into words when directly questioned. "Weren't you supposed to leave for work earlier?"
You hummed, crossing your arms as you walked towards him. "I moved my work around to a few of the higher ups." Instead of engaging with him further, you bent down and picked up his discarded sleepwear and your clothes from the previous day.
"Oh, and relax, I took care of your work for the day. I didn't exactly think it'd be proper for the head of the Yashiro Commission to be stumbling around like a newborn fawn in public."
"Please?"
You hummed, lazily tracing circles on his lower back with one hand, the other holding your book open. "I'm only taking care of you for the day, you don't need me here tonight."
You had been suspiciously good to him, willing to do just about anything he asked if he persuaded you enough. As of now, he'd managed to convince you to let him cuddle up to your side while you did your own relaxing. One of his hands lay on your chest next to his face while the other was squeezed beneath him on the futon, balled up in a fist next to his heart.
So, so sweet, you had been to him. So tender and caring and lenient; it made him feel suspicious but he had thought himself to be too cynical. Instead of being ready to be burned, he wanted to fully be able to embrace this beautiful warmth in its entirety.
Still, he knew there would be some kind of caveat.
Everything you did, everything you said, everything you let him do, it was only for today. He knew it from the start, when you'd told him upfront you were willing to support him while he was recovering from your rendezvous in the sheets the previous night. He had you wrapped around his finger, but only for the day.
He traced his finger over the hemline on your top, gingerly ghosting over it. While you were still scanning over the words in the book, it brought him some satisfaction that you were still listening to what he said. "Surely, I won't have to beg you to stay in bed tonight." There was a bashful smile on his features as he poked, "What if I need something in the night? You've been doting on me all day, but my legs are still numb."
You rolled your eyes, flipping to the next page of your book. "You are the head of the Yashiro Commission, you are not delicate or fragile. We have plenty of attendants, should you need anything you're strong enough to leave the bed and call for their assistance."
He made sure to exaggerate his expression as he pouted, stopping the movement of his free hand. "I may be the head of the Commission, but that doesn't mean I'm indestructible. Perhaps I want to be taken care of for once." He closed his eyes and huffed as he pushed his head further into your chest, "I don't sleep well at night when you aren't next to me. I need the rest if I am to make a full recovery come tomorrow."
"You're more than welcome to get your 'restful sleep' now, there is nothing stopping you." You continued to scan over the kanji sprawled across the page in front of you. Your hand stopped tracing its own circles on his back, opting to rest comfortably against the curve of his spine.
He sighed, dramatically. Even though he acted annoyed, he couldn't deny the pacifying qualities of your touch and your attention. It would be stripped from him at the end of the day he glumly realized, but being unable to have your focus on him unequivocally for the past few months truly weighed on him.
He wanted your eyes to only look at him. He wanted your arms around him every night, every single day. He wanted to be able to indulge himself in your company after work like a glutton. Every single ounce of your remaining time would be spent with him in his own little ideal fantasy world, but with every rejection he could feel his already broken heart crack and shatter just a little bit more.
Would it kill you to share a bed with him? Kill you to be willing to sit in the same room? To eat dinner together? Maybe sit down and discuss both of your work days? If you couldn't love him, could you at the very least pretend? Perhaps that was why he couldn't be mad at you for only loving him conditionally.
He couldn't convince you to love him at all otherwise.
He sat up from where he was leaning on you, pressing his hands down on one of your thighs, "What must I do to convince you, darling? Is there really nothing? I've enjoyed spending the day with you so much I fear I won't be able to take it if you withdraw so suddenly."
You raised a brow skeptically, still not taking your eyes off of your page. He playfully smacked you on the arm, trying to draw your attention away from your silly book. "No, Ayato, I've already told you there is no reason for me to sleep here tonight. You have everything you could possibly need-"
"But what if I need you here?" He urged, wrapping his hand around your bicep. He tugged, scrunching up his fist along with the fabric. "Your husband is a very greedy man, you agreed to take care of me today."
You still didn't divert your attention from the light novel in your hand, flipping to another page. "Just because you are greedy doesn't mean I'll spoil you to death. I agreed to take care of you during the day, I didn't say anything about tonight."
He whined your name, moving to straddle your hips. He put his hand over your book and pushed it to the side. His hands gripped the collar of your yukata, forcing you to look at him, focus on him without any distractions. The divine pink that surged up from your neck sent a pleasant satisfaction pooling in the bottom of his gut. "Could you just consider it a part of your obligation to me today? How can your heart stand to see your precious husband begging you to come to bed and still be so cruel-hearted?"
In any other circumstance, you'd likely shove him off, but in this scenario you let his hands wrinkle the fabric of your collar. Your hands rested tentatively on his waist, averting eye contact. "Only you seem to be calling yourself precious here, Lord Kamisato."
He gasped, putting an offended hand over his heart, "How could you still say such hurtful things to me?" He threw his other hand over his forehead, closing his eyes as he slumped away from you sadly. "You should be groveling and begging for my forgiveness, dearest."
You rolled your eyes, pressing a kiss to his exposed temple, "There, does that make up for it?"
He turned back to face you, rested his hands on your chest again. He seemed to contemplate for a moment, before resting his face in the crook of your neck. "Partially, I do believe you know what truly would make it up to me."
You huffed, "I'm afraid I will have to leave this injustice unresolved." You picked up your book from where he'd shoved it out of your hands.
Promptly, his hand rested on top of yours. His face withdrew from where it had comfortably rested, "If you aren't going to be here tonight, could you at the very least pay attention to me?"
You seemed to consider wrestling your page-turner from him, to turn him down again. But instead, you let a deep breath pass your lips before setting the hardcover on the nightstand and opening your arms. You were basically offering yourself up to him.
He let himself fall into your embrace, a happy purr passing his lips as he slumped against your chest. He let himself be babied as you wrapped your arms over his shoulders and pulled him into your chest and rested your chin on top of the crown of his head.
If he only had today, he would wring as much love from you as he could.
"What are you doing here?"
The Yashiro Commissioner hummed as he took a pointed seat across from you in front of your desk. "Will you be this suspicious of me for the rest of our lives? Is it really all that strange that I want to make a routine out of coming to visit you at work?"
You flipped to the next page of one of the various packets of documents on your desk, "I believe the question you should be asking is whether or not you will always want something from me when you make a visit." Your middle finger carefully scanned over the line of said document before carefully filling out a beautifully calculative signature.
"Oh hush," Ayato gently rested his forearms across the table, face in his palm, "I finally decide to trouble myself with the trip to your workplace and the only thing I get is a sour attitude. Whatever will I do?"
Despite the sincere nature of the words that would flow from your mouth, your dreadfully flat tone betrayed any potential endearment. "How treacherous, for such a doting lover to be so unappreciated."
He smiled, despite all your mockery, always able to find a way to twist each and every little action of yours in his mind. "Precisely, I do believe that you should make it up to me, darling."
You rolled your eyes, "It seems every time I fail to greet you as if we have been starcrossed lovers separated by the cruel writings of fate and time, you believe I have inexplicably wronged you, Ayato."
His hands came to rest on his heart, the sweet jingle of the metals on his attire creating the auditory illusion of the similarly sweet chime of bells. "Because you have!" One of his hands reached forward to rest on your table, "Each and every morning I wake and we are apart, my heart shatters into an insurmountable pile of pieces. Every moment we are apart, my very soul longs to be by your side-"
You waved him off with your non-dominant hand, "Yes, Ayato, you have made all of this clear to me since the moment we were wed. What is it that you want from me? I'm afraid I don't have as much time to entertain you today."
"How cruel," he pouted, "I only wished to invite you out for lunch today."
You raised your brow, still not taking your eyes off your current page. Carefully, you set one packet of paperwork off to the side before setting your sights on another. "What exactly do you 'wish' to get out of lunch?"
There was a saccharine chortle that resounded through the air, "Your company, dearest. I've missed you so." He absentmindedly checked for a clock somewhere around the room, "I do believe I got the time correct, you usually send for your own meal around this hour, don't you?"
You paused, setting down your brush finally. "I suppose I do."
His eyes glistened expectantly, pressing both of his palms firmly on the table. The same cunning smile you used to find so beautiful seemed to only churn a mixed cauldron of negative emotions within the bottom of your ribcage.
"..."
"..."
You sighed, "As much as I would love to join you, I'm afraid your argument falls apart when one realizes I usually work through my lunch. I can't exactly afford to fall behind."
He groaned, his hands shooting forward to grasp at your own. He seemed to completely ignore the fact that you flinched backwards at his touch. Instead, his gloved hands swallowed up your own palms in his, expression desperate as he hunched over your desk. Your eyes weren't very focused on his face when you noticed just how close his pure white sleeve was to a nearly full inkwell. "You work far too much for someone with so many subordinates who are perfectly capable of doing the same job. Surely, you can spare me just an hour? An hour, no more, I swear to you."
You bit the inside of your cheek, averting your gaze from his. "I work because I want things done correctly, I know I can trust myself to complete such matters within the given time frame. As trusted as my employees may be, in the middle of a project as large as-"
He huffed, pressing a kiss to back of your hand, "You're always beginning and ending projects back-to-back, if you don't give your workers any opportunities to prove themselves, will you simply continue to work yourself to death? You don't have a much better chance than this. Give me this one hour, give yourself this one hour, love. Just this once?"
"Ayato-" you tried to warn, however, you were interrupted by this all powerful primal sense of dread as he stood up from his seat across your desk. He circled around you like a hawk before coming to sit by your side instead. One of his hands trailed to your thigh, resting there, innocently malicious. You called his name again, reprimanding intonation, but he seemed to pay no mind.
He rested his head at the junction connecting your collarbone to your neck, just gently ghosting his lips over the skin that remained exposed above your collar. Self-pity washed over you like a flood, accompanied with an embarrassed heat flooding across your face. "This is highly inappropriate at my place of work-"
"Then let's take it out of your place of work." He whispered it tenderly against your neck, nestled right between gentle samplings of your skin. "We can always just go out for lunch too, either way, the decision is yours, darling."
You chewed your bottom lip reluctantly. It seemed, however, Ayato didn't seem to be feeling all that merciful or patient.
He bit down just beneath what would've been visible on your collar.
"Okay, okay- We can go out to lunch, give me some time to arrange for some work to be evenly redistributed." You scowled at his more than satisfied grin, pushing his face away from you, "You are such a headache."
"Yours," he hummed, all but delighted at the outcome of your conversation. He could care less about being unceremoniously being forced to get his grubby little hands off you, instead all but celebrating in his mind as he stood up and dusted himself off.
Yes, you mentally lamented, unfortunately, he was your headache.
'Would you be interested in walking me home?'
"H-Oh shiiiitttt-"
"You're much too loud, if you can't keep it down, I'll leave you here by yourself."
Chinju Forest was quiet and undisturbed a majority of the time, something that appealed to you in your younger years. You enjoyed being invited to the Kamisato Estate as a child just so you could come and sit in the tranquility of the silent trees and the whispering brook.
Pluck off your sandals, toss your socks into the grass and let the tips of your toes gently ease their way into the moving stream. You and the other young heir would come here during your fathers' meetings. Unlike you, when the two of you made your way into the forest, he enjoyed running around.
He liked to skip stones, to hunt for Crawfish underneath the large boulders, run after fireflies in the darkness created by the canopy of trees. While you rested and allowed yourself to turn off your brain, Ayato took hold of his opportunity to be a child. Despite his rather prim and proper nature as an adult, he enjoyed chasing you around with angry cicadas when he was young.
While your sword had seen the punishing end of the hilt in your older teenage years, you hated the idea of filth when you were a child. He enjoyed your screams of terror and the way you'd retreat into the creek, barefoot when he'd come to the water's edge with a screaming bug.
He was your tormentor up until your late twenties, it seemed. Now, you enjoyed tormenting him. To make him uncomfortable, that was your purpose, your passion.
Which is exactly why your pace, like always, was punishing. The grass was soft against his back, but it seemed with each connection of your hips with his you were intent on driving him into the hard ground. He should have felt humiliated, to be defiled against the soil, but he couldn't help the pleasant pulse of ecstasy freely pumping through his body.
His right hand gripped your shoulder in a bruising grasp, fingers coiling around your collarbone. His nails dug into your skin, sure to leave angry little crescent marks in their wake. His left hand was clamped over his mouth, in an attempt to be quieter.
His eyes were squeezed shut, eyebrows curled upwards towards the inner corners of his eyes. Had this been any other time, he would've been alert and at full attention. Drinking in the sight of the man of his dreams looming over him, sweaty and laser-focused on every single arch of his back and every roll of his hips. However, in the middle of the woods, with only the curtain of shadows casted by the tree tops, he couldn't seem to muster up the strength to pull open his eyelids.
What with the churning shame in the bottom of his gut and the surging tendrils of overstimulation coiling through the insides of his you were currently rearranging, he couldn't do it. With the vice grip on his hips and the piercing stare you were aiming at him, it seemed impossible.
"Tell me-" you hissed in between harsh jabs of your hips, "could you really have not waited for me to get home? Was the sole purpose of your trip to my office to lure me into your bed again?"
As much as he might've wanted to answer, Ayato could only answer in pitiful whimpers and whine into the palm of his glove. Each and every single one of them being punctuated with another angry shove of your dick further inside of him.
His eyelids darted open when your attention seemed to shift to the fabric of the glove he was currently biting. Your fingers curled around his wrist and pinned it to the grass next to his head, "Hey-" your hips halted for just a few seconds before moving agonizingly slowly. Just barely enough movement to keep fanning the flames of overwhelming want in his gut, just barely enough to be prodding at his prostate, but slowly enough he was painfully aware of the twitch of his own erection against his stomach. "I asked you a question."
He nodded blearily, shaking his head as quickly as the friction against the nape of his neck would. He tried to let a few words stumble from his swollen lips, but he could only blubber pathetically and push his perineum closer to you in response.
You pulled him to be flush against your pelvis, looming over him with a tilt of your head. "Words, Ayato, use your words."
"Yes- Archons yes- please just keep moving-" he begged.
He mewled with another quick roll of your hips into his, left hand clenching and unclenching around nothing next to his head. "Really? What did I ask you? Did you hear me or are you too much of a slut to think about anything but how to get me to touch you again?"
"I'm a slut-" his back arched up dramatically as your hand smeared the lines of white that painted his exposed stomach against his skin, "I'm yOur whore- hnnn~"
He tried to squeeze his thighs together as another teasing wave of pleasure surged past his senses, another hiccup falling past his teeth. He tried to pull you impossibly closer with his legs, but found the traitorous tremor in his muscles prevented him from exerting any real strength.
"Did you touch yourself during work? Was that really all that was on your mind while you sorted through your papers?" Your hand teased his dick, languid strokes up and down as you watched him seize up in a beautiful curve.
His mouth fell open as another string of curses slid out of his throat like a waterfall. You also couldn't help the grunt that resounded through the air past your own closed lips when he got impossibly tighter around you. You pulled his hair to get him to look at you, "Answer me."
He nodded again, "Yes, yes, yesyesyesyes-" He keened, trying to push himself further into the gentle caress of your hand. "I coUldn't stohoopp thinking about youU-"
You hummed, "So you fingered yourself open over your desk? You didn't excuse yourself to your room or anything? No breaks? Just how long did you sit there touching yourself before my lunch break?"
He shook his head, tears pricking the corners of his eyes as he tried to shy away from your prying leer. "I don't know- ouH~"
"Was it really that long?" You continued to stroke his painfully red dick through another orgasm. "Give me an estimate."
He trembled, only really trying to pull himself together as you started getting slower with your movements. "I-I-" He swallowed, "M-maybe an hour? Ahn~ I don't knohowww-"
He practically choked on his thoughts when you sped up again, pleas falling past his lips like a prayer as he arched up into another release.
You'd been nice enough to take care of him again after your escapade in the woods.
You took him home, explained he'd 'fallen ill' on the way home, and informed the staff (Thoma) you'd be back in around an hour to take care of him after sorting out work affairs.
Just like before, you let him gently wrap you around his nimble finger. Each and every little request was met as long as his words were sweet enough, as long as he played each and every one of his little cards right. As long as he looked pitiful enough, you would let him cuddle up in your lap. If he complained enough, he could convince you to give him a massage.
Sweetly, he would call your name and you'd be at his side. Patiently, you'd brush the hair off of his face and make sure he was comfortable. If he so wished it, you would let him join you in your office while you worked. Of course, while you could hand off your work to others in your company, Inazuma, the Commissions, and politics didn't stop just because he needed the day off.
Instead of getting one of his many retainers to do his work for him, you took it upon yourself to sit yourself down at his desk and take care of it yourself. A husband should be able to understand and complete his partner's job, you told him when he teased you for it. So, despite never having dipped your proverbial toe into the world of politics, you took on the mantle without hesitation.
Paper after paper, meeting after meeting. Later in the day, you even bothered yourself with hand-delivering a few signed notices and making appearances in spots he was supposed to be. It was only understandable you would return home exhausted after that. Still, in your tired daze, you insisted that you would sleep in your office once again.
"If not for me, than for yourself, darling." He pleaded, perched at the edge of the futon in his Yukata. He watched you wander around the room tucking away paper after paper and muttering to yourself. "I wouldn't be able to live with myself if you were to sleep on the ground tonight. You've just about worked your fingers to the bone so I could take the rest of the day off."
You waved him off with a hand, eyes still scanning over a booklet of etiquette that came with a Tricommission meeting. Seeing as the Yashiro Commission mainly served as a cultural regulator and mediator between the two commissions, the tasks of the acting representative during the meeting were relatively simple. In theory, it wouldn't be difficult to allow Ayato another day of rest. All you would need to do would be to resolve any conflicts should they-
"Would it ease your mind if I slept elsewhere tonight?"
You only really snapped out of it when you felt his arms rest themselves delicately around your hips.
"I-" You cleared your throat, "No, there's no need. I can manage just fine with you here."
You felt him sigh against your back, resting his face against your shoulder blade. "So you'll stay here tonight? I'm glad."
You paused, "That... isn't what I meant." You gently pried his arms off of the curves of your waist, snapping the booklet you'd been cradling shut. "I'm a grown man. A sore back isn't a concern I've made a priority for a long time. You can sleep here, I will be fine in my office."
He pressed himself into your back, if not only insisting with his words, than also with his actions. "I don't care if you'll be fine in your office, I care what is best for you. You've worked all day, it's nearly midnight. The futon will comfort your physical ailment if not your mental strain. I can sleep in my own office tonight for a change."
You shook your head, sliding the booklet into one of the many shelves that adorned your walls. "Absolutely not. You will sleep in bed tonight as you always have, I only worked this hard so you could recover your strength. Sleeping on the ground would only-"
He huffed, "If you don't want to sleep in the same room as me, I'll be sleeping in my office. You can't seriously think you'll be able to stop me. If you want me to sleep in bed, you will sleep in the bed with me."
You shook your head, "That-"
You flinched as he pushed you up against the wall, inhaling deeply as he rested his face in the crook of your neck. What made the position all the more embarrassing was your inability to gauge his expression. "Please?"
You sighed, "Don't make this difficult. Sleep in bed, sleeping in my office isn't a bother to me-"
He called your name again, exasperated. "Do I have to sweeten the deal for you in some way? What do I have to do for you to take my offer seriously?" He wrapped you up in his arms again, this time snuggly situating himself around your torso. "I'm tired of only catching glimpses of your grumpy face when you leave in the morning because of the lackluster sleep you managed to get. Just for tonight, I promise. If you don't believe me on anything else, just for tonight I'm asking you to sleep on the futon sincerely out of concern for your wellbeing and not my own selfish desires."
"Ayato-"
He gave your torso a squeeze. In fact, he let you unravel his arms from your figure without any of the usual fuss. "What do you say?"
You shook your head, turning to face him with an annoyed expression, "Go to bed like you do every night, I don't know how many times I need to keep telling you-"
He silenced your complaints with his lips.
He wrenched his arms from your grip on them, going to trail them up and down your sides. You exploded in surprised shudders, unwittingly complicit in his little act of intimacy. Soon enough, he was sinking down on his knees, pressing his lips to your clothed body at random intervals on his way down.
"What are you doing?"
His breathing got heavier as he descended, fingers settling at your waistband. "You only finished once earlier, didn't you?" With a flick of his wrist, he exposed your flaccid dick to the cold air of your bedroom. He gave an experimental lick up the side from base to tip, listening to the sharp inhalation of air through your teeth. He could feel it getting hard under his tongue with a few more kitten licks to the tip.
"If you aren't tired enough to stay in bed as is, I'm sure I could tire you out some more."
Ayato gave a sleepy sigh as he sunk into your chest.
Today, it seemed, you two still had enough energy for some clean-up post-coitus.
You admonished him gently. "Hold still, you'll end up getting soap in your eye." Your hands gently combed through his hair and did your best to swipe the foamy bubbles off of his forehead. You did your best to scrub the sweat off his scalp while still remaining tender.
He curled up against you despite all the space that was left in your rather luxurious bathtub. His legs tangled with yours in your seat, tracing hearts over where yours was hidden beneath your skin. You grabbed the wooden bowl from beside the tub, filling it with water before pouring it over Ayato's head gently.
The suds ran down his back and into the rest of the tub. He rubbed what little soap remained around his eyes before looking up at you. Something similar to a cat purring emanated from his chest, eyes filled with a soft fondness you couldn't stomach head-on.
It would've been nice if he hadn't forced the ring on your finger half a year ago. It would've been sweet, it would've been mind-numbingly heartwarming. But as it stood, you couldn't seem to meet such a gaze without a deep resentment bubbling up in your chest. Even if you might've wanted to fall in love for the sake of your own sanity in the long run, could you really ever learn to love someone like him?
As if reading your mind, he interrupted your thoughts by reaching up to grab the bottle of shampoo himself. "Do you want me to wash your hair too?"
Still, despite knowing he would never do anything to hurt you, to so much as go out of his way to upset you, you could've let yourself to let your guard down to him in the slightest. "No, I can do it myself."
Ayato snickered, "Well, I know you can, but do you want to have your hair washed?" His laughter was soft and domestic sounding, something that should've squeezed your heart gently. Yet, the squeeze felt more like an impromptu strangling. Something hurt when he laughed so mercifully. Something felt extremely wrong when he laughed without so much as a care.
Did he care about you?
Did he have the capacity to care about anyone but himself?
Did he truly love you, or did he love the idea of the two of you together?
He waved a hand in front of your face, calling your name quizzically. "Did you hear me? Do you want me to wash your hair or would you rather just rinse it tonight?" He shook his head, the water droplets that clung to his exposed skin glistening in the low lamplight. "Nevermind, just go ahead and turn around, let me take care of it."
You shook your head. "I can do it myself, you should relax."
He clicked his tongue, "Let me do this one thing for you. You always seem to take care of me and never let me do the same for you. Do you honestly think so poorly of me? There isn't any poison in it."
'Yes', you thought breathlessly, more like admitted it to yourself. 'You did think that badly of him.'
You already told yourself earlier, reassured yourself, he wouldn't so much as hurt a hair on your head if not for your own wellbeing than his twisted ideal of this relationship. You wondered if someday, if you didn't play into this little role he'd assigned you in his head, would he ever grow bored of you?
Would he no longer be interested in playing happy little family with you?
Would he toss you to the side like all the other lives he seemed to treat like objects to creep further towards his goals?
What did it mean exactly to be one of his goals? You didn't know.
The fact that you didn't know scared you.
It scared you more than anything.
Perhaps that was the true reason you wouldn't ever let him care for you. You didn't know what his definition of care was.
"Please?" he pleaded again. He always loved to drop in that magic word whenever you were feeling more open to spending time with him. "You just used the shampoo on me, you usually use it yourself, it couldn't hurt just this once, could it?"
"Fine, but don't draw it out. I want to go to bed soon."
You watched the smile grow on his features as he gripped at the sides of your face. He peppered kisses all over, gracious thanks leaving his lips every moment they weren't attached to your face. You silently let him continue to shower you in his affections.
Finally, when he seemed to be done with kissing you wherever he could plant his mouth, you let yourself sink more into the bathtub. You leveled yourself out to where he could get to your locks.
You leaned against him, though he was quick to admonish you for being as stiff as a board. "Relax, I'm not going to do anything but wash your hair, love. You worry too much."
He planted another kiss to the wet skin of your nape before dumping a generous amount of shampoo into his waiting palm. He rubbed his hands together to gather up the suds before his hands descended upon your waiting scalp with a calculated gentleness.
He seemed to pay special attention to each and every hair on your head. The obvious devotion made you feel like you were squirming in your own skin.
Carefully, he brushed the hair away from your face, lathering each and every lock thoroughly. It seemed as though he was looking for every excuse he could to touch you.
"That's enough, my hair is more than clean by now."
He went to complain, but held his tongue. It seemed he realized just as quickly as you did that you were being far too lenient with him. But it was difficult to stop him at the same time. Usually, you were good at maintaining your boundaries and making sure he knew you weren't going to fall victim to this ludacris script he'd orchestrated in the recesses of his twisted mind.
But throughout the course of the night, there seemed to be one thought that scared you more than what Ayato's definition of care was.
What would he do to you when he stopped caring altogether?
there's a note on the side of the phone booth, read it?
" hey guys, kicks rocks "

ꕤ 53. keep things lowkey (ღ)
tw: none / wc: 1.3k
only when ayato reached across the limousine's rear cup holder to interlace his fingers with yours did you realize you've been practicing yet again a bad habit of yours — your nervousness manifesting by how you pick at your nails.
ayato chuckles, glancing at you. "love, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. i'll be there with you at all times, i promise — i just hope you don't get bored over business talk, if you do, well… i'd like to apologize in advance."
"it's just…" you mutter under your breath, looking out the window. "other than this is going to be my first gala, you're this important person, and i'm just nervous i might do something to embarrass you."
he squeezes your hand, urging you to look at him. "are you kidding? you? embarrass me? have you met yourself?"
you laugh, blushing at the eye contact. crazy how he can still erupt such butterflies in your stomach when a year has already passed of being together. you knew what you were getting yourself into, so ayato finally breaking the news to the public weeks ago was something that didn't faze you at all. however, today's the day you see if you'll truly fit into his world.
you bring his hand to your lips.
"just afraid of not fitting in."
the light turns green, and the car makes its final left turn and you immediately see the backs of the paparazzi grouped before a red carpet, in front of the monumental architecture of today's venue, leeum museum of art. you already imagine yourself standing before them, the flash of the cameras burning your retinas as you stand with your arm looped around ayato's.
this is it. this is the life you accepted when ayato finally asked you to become his. while he offered that you need not make appearances if it doesn't suit your comfort, you disagreed and said you were willing to go through the criticizing eyes of the public if it meant you can show up for him loudly and proudly.
but of course… first day jitters are a thing.
ayato pulls up but before he opens the doors, he presses a tender kiss to your forehead.
"just be yourself, my love. i love you because of who you are and i am every bit confident they will love you just the same. if there's some who thinks otherwise, well…" he tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, smiling his sweetest smile. "you memorize their face, what they're wearing, and you tell me. no one disrespects you in my gala."
—
the night was running smoothly thus far, exchanging numerous handshakes with business owners who approached ayato. when some do not, you notice the way ayato's brow would raise before introducing you properly as his lover, only then did their eyes land on you and promptly offer a handshake, muttering a few apologies for not noticing you.
your boyfriend huffs, as you fix his tie in the side, eyeing the last man who initially didn't bother to greet you. "where are the manners of some of these people? they should know how to address a lady when they see one."
"my love, please… let it go, it's okay he still greeted me anyway!"
"only because i introduced you," he shakes his hand. "you are not some eye candy dangling off my arm! they can't ignore you. you deserve to be addressed just as properly as they address me."
you click your tongue playfully, cupping his face and softly urging him to look at you. his hardened gaze softens when he meets your eyes. for a moment, you don't say anything, and you visibly see the tension ease off his shoulders. he turns his head to nose at the palm of your hand, offering a light kiss.
"okay, i'm calm."
"thank you."
the dj increases the volume of the music just as she changed it from light house music to a more romantic one, perfect for a dance. the lights dimmed, people standing to the side as a circle forms, men and women alike already asking their wives or lovers to dance.
ayato steps back with a flare before bowing to you, offering his hand. "my lady, would you be so kind as to allow this lowly gentleman to grace the dance floor with you?"
you laugh, before casually starting to play along. "but of course, i shall dance with thee!"
he pulls you along, his hand tucked in the small of your back as you slow dance and suddenly it's just the two of you in an empty museum. "so…" he trails, a hint of a contented smile on his. "how was your first gala, my love?"
"well… i guess it was everything that i expected?" you laugh. "the crowd, the business talk, champagne… now i'm feeling kinda stupid i was nervous to begin with, everyone has been nothing but lovely."
ayato pulls you closer, burying his nose in your hair. "well, i am a good judge of character — minus the few who initially ignored you when they spoke to me," you pulled away, narrowing your eyes at him as he laughed and shook his head, moving on quickly. "okaaaay, i was just kidding… maybe. but i'm glad everything went smoothly, my love."
a moment of silence dawns on you both as you find a comfortable nook on his neck, him resting his cheek against your hair as he secures his hold around your waist, feeling so comfortable and at peace in each other's arms as you both sway to the music.
"can't believe we've come this far," he mutters. "who would've thought the girl drinking gin at kappa sig is the one for me."
"wait a minute," you pull away, looking at him with eyes wide in shock. "you knew it was me?"
"of course, i'm not the type to forget things when i get drunk," he laughs, amused by the face you're making. "i was a little hurt when you pretended not to recognize me at my apartment, but i gave it some thought and realized how the hell we would've explained to ayaka how we met? so i just went with it."
you shrug, burying your face in his neck in shame. "this is embarrassing, i thought you didn't know it was me — ugh, what the hell — i'm sorry i said all those stuff before pressuring you to kiss me —"
you feel the vibrations in his shoulders. "love, what? you didn't kiss me."
your shame hits the pause button and you look up at him questioningly. "what? we didn't kiss?"
"no, of course not! you were drunk, you wouldn't be in the right state of mind to give your consent… even though you told me i didn't look like i was 'kamisato material' and assuming that i was a bad kisser…"
"don't even —!"
he laughs, loud enough that a few couples dancing turned their heads and you hit his shoulder. when his laugh mellows and he looks at you, he mutters. "you know, i wouldn't change a thing in our storyline. sure, we hit rock bottom a few times, but it's our story."
you don't know why when you look him in the eyes, it feels like seeing him for the first time — free of any restraints from third parties asking you both not to be together.
you crack a small smile. "i'm not proud of the things i did to you but i am beyond thankful that even then, even after everything — we're here, together. makes me think 'maybe we were meant to be' you know?"
"i think so, too." ayato mirrors your smile. "i'm glad you don't have to keep your feelings all… lowkey, anymore. i see how loudly you love me, and it's all i ever wanted."
you laugh, sneaking a kiss on his lips.
"never wanted to keep things lowkey, anyway."

Yandere Ayato HC's
Possibly one of the worst u could ever hope to get due to his power and influence.
Would forcefully take you as his darling not caring about how you feel.
Afterall, with the right circumstances and environment, you can mold anyone to be what you want them to be. Being the commissioner has taught Ayato that very well.
Being the head of the Kamisato Clan and the Yashiro Commissioner, his wealth, power, and influence is immeasurable.
Ayato is very strict when it comes to how you behave. You must have good manners and your face must be smiling at all times. If not, punishments are in order.
You must always look presentable. As his darling, he can't afford people on the streets assuming that he treats you like a dog (he does).
Ayato admires loyalty a lot and he loves dogs because of how loyal they are. You are expected to be loyal to him and not seek out any other man besides him.
You don't see Ayato often because he works a lot during the day. Expect him to slip into your shared bed and hold you closely but very tight.
During the night, you sleep with a cuff around your ankle to prevent any escaping.
There's no escaping because the shuumatsuban will be tailing you.
When Ayato is busy in his office signing and reading over paperwork and whatnot, you'll sit on his lap and cuddle with him while he does so. There's no getting out of it either. But don't worry, it's only a couple times a week.
Ayaka will also meet you of course.
Thomas will also meet you as well and he's sometimes responsible for watching you and helping you get ready for the day.
When Ayato has free time and he's out with Thoma and Ayaka, he's 100% dragging you with them.
Eventually the two of you are married due to societal norms in Inazuma and whatnot. Ayato likes this because it binds you in a legal contract with him meaning that you'll always be his.
You won't be involved in political affairs because he doesn't want you gaining connections and possibly having outside help to escape.
If you're able to, you will eventually have a child who will be the heir to the clan but that won't be until a very long time because Ayato is a selfish man and he wants all of your attention on him.
