Thinking about a Zero Escape-ish AU with IkePri characters (basically none of what's below the cut will make sense unless you've played even 1 of the ZE games, best understood if you've played all 3)

The most powerful SHIFTers are Licht and Nokto because of their mother's cruel treatment of them causing their powers to grow out of defense. In this AU their mom actually killed Licht in one timeline, but he SHIFTed without intending to and killed her instead. Because they're identical twins and spent so much time together their powers are equal in strength, and they're attuned to each other and can freely send or receive information. They also affected Yves' ability since they were around him a lot growing up (Licht is also attuned to Yves since he still spends a lot of time with him so they can also freely send and receive information between each other).

The next most powerful is a tie between Clavis and Yves. Clavis by both birth (tense emotions/situations between the parents while the child is concieved can cause the child to have stronger abilities) and practice, Yves due to his abilities being affected by the twins'. Clavis isn't even aware that his powers are stronger than Chev's or maybe he'd be less insecure in this AU, but sadly he's not. Clavis could freely send information to Chev due to frequent physical proximity if he wanted to, but he... Does not, and generally makes someone else do it. Yves is only fully attuned to Licht, but he is the first choice when something needs to be sent to Leon.

Chevalier is the third/fifth most powerful SHIFTer but the good news is he doesn't need to change timelines too often since he doesn't need to use his abilities that often (he relies on physical strength and ingenuity, and he sees using his abilities as a weakness). Because of this he has to concentrate really hard to send any information to the others when he really needs to, and can't understand any information he receives easily unless it's coming from someone with stronger abilities (and even then he gets a headache).

Fourth place is Jin. His mother knew he likely had powers and while she tried to discourage using them she was too worried about him not knowing about them at all and somehow developing them in the wrong way (one way to develop your powers is to get in a life-or-death situation, for instance), so she told him what she knew about them but couldn't really help a lot with the specifics. He's not really attuned to anyone in particular, and can only send information with real reliability.

Next is Luke. He'd be more powerful due to the situation in which he was conceieved, but he was never told about his ability growing up and only found out alongside everything else. He now thinks he might have SHIFTed the day Leyla was killed, but he's not entirely sure and doesn't want to think about the possibility that he traded his life for hers, even accidentally. He's not attuned to anyone in particular, and has trouble both sending and receiving information.

Leon, Sariel and Emma are all equally weak due to having secondhand abilities - they only gained them from being around the others. The original Leon was an esper, but since he died so young no one really thinks anything of Leon's powers being so weak as he didn't have the chance to prove himself a proper SHIFTer instead. Emma was pretty freaked out the first and only time she SHIFTed and had to be calmed down by Sariel, who was admittedly also freaked out when it happened to him and thus knows what she's going through. Leon can receive messages best from Yves, but has trouble sending them no matter who the recipient is. He cannot SHIFT unless someone who can does so in his proximity - and even then he's forced to go to whatever timeline they end up in. Sariel can't really send or receive messages but can SHIFT more reliably as a tradeoff. Emma can only send or receive reliably with whoever she ends up with romantically (and only if it's not someone from the next rank), and tends to SHIFT by accident a lot.

Rio, Silvio, Gilbert and Keith aren't espers or SHIFTers at all. Silvio tends to taunt Rio for not having picked up any abilities even secondhand from working in the Rhodolite palace (he has an excuse since he doesn't freakin' live there). Keith is mildly unnerved every time Licht mentally sends Yves information that he wants something with chocolate right in front of him (and Licht thinks it's funny to watch him squirm, which is why he does it), and Gilbert... Gilbert seems to think it's an intimidation tactic, not real. No one tells him otherwise because they don't need him knowing about their powers.

Idk anything about the other 3 so they get no headcanons.

A few years ago.

One day in Rhodolite there was such a strange incident, like a joke of the gods.

A black-haired boy is sitting on a barrel in a empty alley, reading in an ancient language a book about the history of the continent that is difficult to understand, even for scholars.

Black-Haired Boy: Hey...why are people in power always rotten?

Next to him sits a blond boy with blue eyes. He too is reading.

Black-Haired Boy: They say continental history is the history of the nobility, but there are no good men.

Black-Haired Boy: Those who murdered their kin and gained the throne, those who expanded their territory by organizing other countries, those who turned a blind eye to the suffering of their people.

He would like to see someone good take the throne for once.

Back-haired boy : ...No, I wonder if such a man can't leave his name in history.

Blond Boy: No wonder. In a modern society where the class system has become common sense, the monarch who seeks love and equality must be eliminated first.

Blond boy: Once you hold on to power, you can never let it go.

His comrade reluctantly agrees.

Black-Haired Boy: I think humans are conscious creatures by nature.

Blond Boy: According to your theory, there are no real villains in the world.

The blond-haired boy thinks his mate is dreaming, but the brunette waves him off, saying he's just a kid.

The princes of the domestic political faction hold meetings. They want to convince the aristocracy and ministers that a meeting between the countries is necessary. And Obsidian will stay for the meeting.

Domestic Bureaucrat: Their betrayal of the past has remained undisclosed to this day.

Ten years have passed since Obsidian suddenly attacked Rhodolite.

Leon says that Obsidian hasn't shown diplomacy before, we should let their representative stay.

Leon: And if anything happens, Chevalier and I will take responsibility.

The official finally relents, but immediately turns the bureaucrat's attention to the heroine.

What is the point of this woman? Why is she here?

After she was Gilbert's date at the ball, she's being treated warily.

But the guys in Leon's faction are protective of her.

Yves mentions that their allies don't mind her presence.

Luke sits next to her.

Luke: Eh, it's a really bad atmosphere.

He's here because he's the new prince.

Luke asks, tiredly and a little annoyed, what does the bureaucrats know about Gilbert?

Invincible Marshal, arrogant member of the imperial family, world disaster, etc.

Luke: These are all just stories. You don't know his real identity, do you?

Luke: Suddenly he could just fall in love with Mirana at first sight.

Leon is laughing.

Jin is supportive. MC is a beautiful woman.

Luke wants to leave and take the girl with him.

Leon gives him permission.

Their idyll was interrupted by Gilbert.

The beautiful garden turned to hell with his arrival.

Awkwardly looking around, MC saw a black figure among the windswept petals.

Gilbert: Hello. Perhaps you were in the middle of a secret date?

Luke: Alone. If you know, stay out of the way.

Gil doesn't like it. Luke tells him not to be jealous.

Gilbert notices the sadness on MC's face. Has someone been making fun of her? She denies it.

Gilbert: I hate lies.

Luke defends MC. If anyone is bullying the girl, it's Gilbert. Luke steps forward, shielding the heroine from the Prince of Obsidian.

Luke: Because your very existence is horrible. Don't scare MC.

Gilbert: Eh, that's unreasonable. I haven't done anything horrible yet.

MC doesn't like his words. He doesn't want her to be afraid.

He wants to deepen their friendship.

He thanks the girl for escorting him to the ball.

The prince ignores Luke.

Gilbert: Shall we go together now?

Just the two of them, so no one gets in their way.

The girl is not stupid, she understands that he is interested in her for a reason. He wants to know if she is "Belle".

Luke: What are you thinking?

Gilbert: I'm only thinking about strengthening my friendship with Miss Bunny.

If she keeps looking at him with those sad eyes, he'll be so sad he'll want to kill her.

Gilbert asks Luke to come up with an excuse why he isn't there.

Luke is not happy. Why should he help Gil?

It's simple: Luke is of the foreign policy faction, and the girl is the lady on whom the future of the country depends. If the Prince of Obsidian doesn't like their behavior, their homeland will die.

(It sounds like a joke, but Prince Gilbert really can do it.)

Luke: Gilbert!

Gilbert: It's okay! I won't be cruel.

Gilbert: You should know better than anyone that I'm not lying.

Luke: ...MC, if you really don't like it, I'll take this guy down.

The girl had to go with Gilbert. He brought her to the bookstore where she used to work. Today he had reserved that store specifically for them.

It was one thing if it was just a coincidence, but if he had it all figured out...?

Gilbert forcibly led her to the bookshelf.

The heroine loves books, doesn't she?

Gilbert: There are no annoying looks from the yard here. It's the only place where you can get back to your true self.

Gilbert: Are you pale? Aren't you happy?

MC asks how he knows about this place and that she likes books?

It's a secret + he likes to gather information. It's his hobby.

Gilbert: But it's your fault, Belle.

The heroine denies being "Belle."

Gilbert doesn't like lies.

Gilbert: Oh, is this the book you've been so fond of lately?

He pulls a black book with gold letters from the shelf.

The girl is startled by his awareness. She gathers up her courage and asks what his real goal is.

She refuses him.

But she has no choice. The black book has fallen to the floor.

She has only two choices: volunteer to be friends or be forced to be friends.

He bites her shoulder.

Gilbert: If the king's choice goes back to the beginning, we can buy enough time to lead our troops and invade.

MC: ...Do you really want to go to all this trouble and time to be friends with me?

He likes her question.

Gilbert: You have the most beautiful heart in Rhodolite.

There are different criteria for evaluation.

Gilbert: Let's define beauty in your case as "a stronger feeling of love for others than for yourself."

Her pure heart makes him sick.

Gilbert: But you know, I think. No matter how beautiful a man's heart is, the essence of mankind is false love.

Gilbert: To pile up ugly lies and act as if there is love...there really is no such thing.

Gilbert: Even your beautiful heart is nothing more than a trick.

If she stays in court, greed will eventually get the better of her.

And he'd like to see it up close.

Gilbert: I was curious to see how the most pure-hearted woman in Rhodolith would transform.

Gilbert: So, friend. To be near you, the excuse of being a friend is the fastest, right?

(...I may not even understand 10% of Prince Gilbert's story.)

MC tells him that she will remain herself and not live up to the prince's expectations.

Gilbert: Heh, that's funny.

He bites her again.

MC: Please don't bite me!

Gilbert: Did that hurt? I'm sorry.

Gilbert: I like to leave a mark on my favorites. I mean, it's a sign that you're my friend.

Gilbert let go of MC. Turning around, she met his eyes. He was smiling, but his gaze was cold.

You know what I realised now… (PJO SHOW AND BOOK SPOILERS)

We’ve all been torn over how quickly the golden trio have figured out all of their adversaries and picked out just the right myths to help them succeed with near ease each episode. At no point have they truly been unaware of the danger they are facing. Does not mean they haven’t fumbled on occasion but by in large their encounters with monsters and traps have left them relatively unscathed.

But let us all recall there is still one “monster” left. One danger yet to be uncovered. One that none of them have seen coming. Maybe Percy will piece it together after the Ares fight?? I can’t say for sure.

Imagine how confident they’ve become in picking out exactly what dangers they’ve been facing and the fact that they get to return to camp triumphant in their success only to be met with the ultimate surprise.

Imagine how hard it’s gonna hit when they discover the mastermind behind this whole quest is not a god, or a monster, or a mythological being.

It’s someone who Percy felt confident enough to call his friend after being cast into an unknown world. Who made him feel like he belongs for the first time in his life. Someone Annabeth has looked to as family since she was 7 years old. Someone Grover probably deeply admired for his bravery and his leadership skills.

The one person they felt confident enough to confide in with their suspicions about the true lightning thief, because how could it be him? Charismatic, charming, passionate, kind, natural-born leader.

Imagine how hard it will hit when they realise Luke is the traitor. And all that knowledge and cleverness could never have possibly prepared them for this kind of betrayal.

I didn't like Luke as much when I played his route the first time, going dramatic. but I just finished his romantic end and... holy shit. That was... so freakin romantic????? I didn't expect that depth of emotion and complexity from him. I actually quit reading his route for abt 2 weeks. If it hadn't been for this collection event? I probably would have dropped it or rushed it right before the next route drops.

Like Aemond wasn't a 12 year old horse girl before lmaooo, baby boy managed to claim the biggest and oldest dragon only a few days after said Dragon had to burn her rider alive, the sheer balls on that kid.

If that is indeed what's going to happy then I don't terribly mind it? If Helaena is still pregnant when the season starts it means they won't immediately jump to blood&cheese - which leaves a few episodes for them to really make it hit emotionally by showing Helaegon interacting with their children and it also make sense to have Aegon actually look at his wife more than once if that's what they're going for.

(I personally wouldn't mind if they just completely brushed over the whole rapist and child fighting stuff because it was pretty silly in the first place but even if they keep trying to make Aegon the worst person in Westeros, he can still feel protective over his Family. He's allowed to contain multitudes).

I wonder if there's gonna be more Helaemond scenes? Maybe it's because I've seen so many Helaemond Fans in this Fandom but it would make sense to give them some scenes too, since 1. Aemond is self-proclaimed Family Protector and 2. Blood&Cheese is very much his fault.

Not a fan that they potentially tone b&c down, but that's mostly because I am a gore hound and a horror movie freak so while I didn't necessarily think they would show a little child dying in every gorey detail, I at least expected the scene to be near unbearable emotionally with a heavy focus on Helaena's and Alicent's pain and some very awful scenes with them rather than the children (you know like, rape threats directed at them and them being touched and leered at and stuff).

I also heard somewhere that Daemon is gonna kidnap Jaehaerys instead? Idk, but that's not what I want.

My wants are very simple:

Make b&c as awful as possible

Have Aegon watch as Helaena commits suicide (maybe he's just walking into her chambers, calling for her and he sees her seconds before she jumps/she actually lands right next to him or/and Aemond)

Not gonna happen but I would love for Alicent to point out that Rhaenyra's plan of revenge not only hurt the murderer of her child but also her sister aka the one sibling she liked and doted on (via the book) and the only sibling who had the least to do with any of this and suffered the most for it

Jacaerys dying as awfully as possible (affectionate)

Okay so spoilers for Rio route I guess

Emma also said something like TO Rio instead of Rio saying it to her in his dramatic route

I genuinely think that Rio and Emma are the 'canon' couple for ikepri this has nothing to with the fact that I will gobble up anything friends to lovers. Partially because of this and partially because no matter how it seems to those who haven't played his route, he does fit the role of 'beast'. Emma even made a reference to the movie by saying that if an old woman approached Rio of the past to ask for shelter, he would have refused because it did him no good — his kindness and cheery nature was all a facade, he didn't do anything because it was 'right' so to speak, he did because it made Emma happy. He actually became a good person thanks to the help of Emma instead of pretending to be one.

How the Rhodolite princes would react to their firstborn/newborn

Rating: PG-13 (?) Ikepri itself contains a lot of mature themes however, as such, mdni 🔞

Warnings: Brief mentions of (past) character death, grief, pregnancy/childbirth themes (no actual birth depicted), gn but implied afab, & the usual tragic Ikepri cannon.

A/N: Tried to write how they'd hold their kid and what they were feeling when meeting them. Spoiler warnings for the Rhodolite princes routes, tried not to bring up anything major though (Luke's is probably the most spoilery?). Tried to keep the princes' spouses GN, though implied afab bc newborns. (One very brief mention of Belle, but mc/reader is not Emma.) Might eventually make pt2 with the others..? Please read the warnings and proceed only if comfortable! :)

(Apologies for anything that seems ooc, I haven't written much in awhile and this is my first piece for Ikepri! I'm more used to fics rather than hcs, but I tried my best! o7)

There's so much Jin can't help but worry about. His past, his future, his country... and now he's got not one but two loved ones he would do anything for. The little bundle of joy in his arms reminds him of the times when his younger brothers were born, and how cute they used to be (well, some of them, anyway). The bleary, garnet eyes trying to look into his own have him wondering.. is this how he looked to his dear mother? There's so much he cherishes, and so much he fears, but he won't let the history of Belle repeat itself. He'd fight the entire palace if he had to, but for right now, he'll settle for tackling pesky burps and dirty diapers. Jin coos at his baby, baritone voice suddenly startling the poor thing, and he can't help but pout. The baby in his arms continues to fuss, feeling hungry.

Jin pulls something out of his breast pocket, looking over at his spouse. "So.. how much longer until they can have lollipops?"

CHEVALIER 🐅

Chevalier would likely be a bit awed upon holding his firstborn, much like the quiet way he takes in Emma's precence. Chevalier is known to be awkward with his affections, as he's far from practiced, but it's been shown on several occasions how he tries to gently pet an animal that dares to come close, or how he clumsily takes care of his love when they're feeling under the weather. He may look fine on the outside, but he's actually quite hesitant, trying to sort things out logistically at first, before sort of just settling for standing there and holding his newborn with both arms. He stares down at their gentle features, taking in every detail, making sure they're comfortable and warm in their sleep.

Looking over at his beloved in all their tired glory, in his very own Chevalier-approved affection he says, "You did well, Simpleton." While he only speaks four words aloud, his faint smile speaks the thousands he didn't quite know how to express.

CLAVIS 🐆

"Dearie me," Clavis says, holding his newborn, full of wide-eyed excitement. "They look so much like you, I can see the bunny ears already."

Being someone who values life so dearly, bringing a new one into this world, with the love of his life no less, is enough to send Clavis' heart soaring into the stratosphere. He just can't help but want to drown them in affection, but they're so small and fragile, and Clavis knows better than to risk scaring them now. He's so, so gentle with his child, unconditional love flowing off him in waves as they bond quietly (please don't get used to this, it will not last), and looks upon their splotchy tufts of lilac hair. The Lelouch genes live on through yet another generation, he smiles to himself. Clavis slowly comes over to stand by his love, placing a gentle kiss on their head.

"You're so lucky to have such a wonderful husband like me. But I'm even luckier to have you both in my life."

LEON 🦁

The happiest day in Leon's life. Second only to your wedding. Scratch that, the wedding is second.. he thinks. He's a bit frazzled from work, labor stress, and all the chaos, cut the guy some slack. No one is immune to this sweet lion's charisma, not even a newborn. They can't help but stare at his flowy hair and bright eyes, like a cartoon character come to life right before their eyes. Leon gently caresses their neck, very lightly pressing a kiss into their soft kiss to their temple. What kind of person will they grow up to be? Will they eat as much as he does? Will they fall asleep when they read too? There's a lot that runs through his mind, but ultimately, he is hopes for them to be healthy, and live happily. This child is going to be absolutely spoiled (within reason), and always have someone in their corner, rooting for them and ready to help learn from their wrongs. For now, he can worry about righting their posture instead. He tries to hold them like he read (how his partner read) in the parenting books, supporting their necks and all. It was really hard to stay awake during those, but the excitement of fatherhood helped him push through, and he's going to put it all into practice now.

"When do we start working on the second one?" (If not for the literal newborn currently in his hands, he'd be busy dodging several pillows.)

YVES 🐈

There's a lot of suppressed guilt for his mother's death in mind, and so many worries for his darling's health before, during, and after. He's a bit scared to hold his newborn, for fear of his clumsiness and "bad luck". With some assurance, he finally takes hold of them, and he could not physically be more careful with his firstborn. Clear eyes like the sky blink sleepily up at him, and Yves is fighting back tears solely for fear of them landing on the baby and somehow hurting them. The smile on his face could split his cheeks if it got any wider. The baby falls asleep in its father's arms, and he even tries breathing softer so he won't wake them. He's just trying his best, please reassure this sweet cat, he means well. (And he absolutely lost the battle against those blasted tears anyway.)

"Thank you for loving me, and for bringing our child into the world with us. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me."

LICHT 🐺

(Twins having twins cliché may seem redundant, I made 'em different for each brother, pinky promise.)

Licht was blessed with not one but two bundles of joy. Beautiful twin boys, who had what looked to be his vibrant silver hair and his beloved's eyes. He couldn't help the memories that surged, of happier times, and the worst of times. He knew all too well just how ruthless the court could be, but he had a chance to make things different this time. Licht seriously considered building that house he'd once mentioned, and moving you all somewhere much more peaceful. One twin in his arms, one with their other parent, he feels all thought subside when the one he's holding tries to grab at his sleeve. Licht's now-famous smile blooms across his lips much the way the sun's rays appear over daybreak; subtle, then all at once. He takes a gloveless hand, letting their tiny hand hold onto his finger as best they can, eyes gleaming from the sight before him. Licht looks over in wonder at his spouse, only to find them already watching with a tired, quiet smile.

"Things won't be easy but.. I know we can handle anything. I adore you. And I adore them."

NOKTO 🦊

(Twins for both may seem redundant, but I changed things up drastically ok, we got this.)

Nokto wasn't entirely surprised to have twins, but he had also hoped luck would be in their corner in avoiding similar fates. Two little girls, jewel-like eyes like his, and his beloved's hair color (or so it appears, though it's hard to tell for sure with so little peach fuzz). Nokto sits at the edge of the bed, holding one newborn in his arm, and reaching his other hand out for the one in his love's arms. Aside from the memories of his own upbringing, he's now having Typical Girl Dad thoughts about how to keep them safe and teach them how to stay away from cooties (boys), among other things. With a soft sigh, he gently burps his newborn after she's done feeding, rocking her slowly as she tries to chew on her father's lucious locks. Laughter bubbles past his lips at her cute antics, and Nokto feels the stress fade away, even if just a little. His heart is still getting used to receiving love and believing in it, but it's grown enough by now to love his 3 new favorite people in the world.

"If they like my hair this much now, just wait till they start to grow their own."

LUKE 🐻

Luke could not be more the picture of a teddy bear than with his newborn all swaddled up and snuggled in with their giant of a dad. He can't help but wonder if his sister is watching over them, laying next to his spouse on the bed, their newborn but a tiny dot among the two full-grown humans taking up most of the space. He promises to be there for his child the way he never really had anyone, and hopes to live more in the present now, the stakes feeling higher than ever before. A whole new life, created on purpose, gently resting in one arm and atop his broad chest, nestled comfortably and trying to suck on their thumb. Luke holds his spouse's hand with his free one, squeezing it gently, looking into their eyes with the intensity of his own emeralds.

"Look at 'em.. they're so small. Just like you," he jokes before letting out a big yawn, "But sleepy, just like me."

While I do love this, I think this is just a missed opportunity for Nettles.

She's the one starting the weird ass risk your life for acclaim cult in the Vale. Past the romance, she's a question for morality and loyalty in the story and a wrench in the whole we are Gods not Men, natural right idea.

Even here, she could be the most natural foil to Rhaneyra.

But we shall see.

okay i was asked to post this on tumblr since i posted a mini essay about it on twitter so here it is, i added some more examples and elaborated on my points that i couldn't over twitter.

so, when i first watched episode 207 i thought it was weird how religious rhaenyra was, until ryan condal mentioned the cult imagery. now i think instead of the show making her paranoid and neurotic in the final arc, they're going to make her more of a cult leader figure.

i think rather than leaning into her paranoia and the idea of a "hysterical paranoid mother" after she loses her sons, they're going to have her drink her own kool-aid more and more. it's interesting that this is what emma and ryan discuss in this scene with the dragonseeds in the inside the episode.

i think it's interesting that instead of the show positioning her like "a leader amongst the smallfolk," this episode positions her in a darker light, like someone who is manipulating the people there for her own goals. and when vermithor turns on the bastards, she doesn't let them run, the guards keep them barricaded in.

she is literally enraptured by the fire in these scenes. now that she knows it's possible for others to claim the dragons, she has been vindicated and wants more. this is not a merciful queen who is reaching out a hand to the smallfolk, she's throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. after all, these are just smallfolk. bastards with no honor. ryan literally describes the scene as a ritual sacrifice.

and who do you conduct sacrifice for? the gods. but in this case, the gods the seven or the old gods, they aren't even just dragons, but the fact that rhaenyra sees herself in the dragons. she says as much in the literal pilot of the episode when viserys asks her what she sees when she looks at the dragons. she understands the power they wield.

she knows that their power lies in the dragons. but she doesn't reflect viserys' belief that they are a power that man never shouldn't have trifled with. she leans into the chaos and fire and blood of the dragons, we see that in the sowing, clearly.

rhaenyra inherited the worst of both viserys and daemon and that will lead to her madness. she's got viserys' strong belief in prophecy (one now exacerbated by her desperation).

we see that faith in the prophecy falter but never truly fade. rhaenyra has always taken is seriously, to the point that everything she's done this season is in response to the prophecy. her pacifism isn't just due to avoiding bloodshed. she makes it clear to jace that before plunging the realm into war she had to know there was no other option because of the burden of the prophecy.

even though daemon has never believed in prophecy or superstition. she's also got daemon's desire and lust for power and strength (something she confessed wanting specifically because daemon is a man when she was speaking to mysaria).

it's a great deconstruction of the chosen one archetype to have her drink this koolaid and believe herself the chosen one only to have that belief corrupt her. emma d'arcy speaks on this in their interview with gq when discussing rhaenyra's growing fanaticism.

I think something that has been happening for Rhaenyra throughout the series is a growing religious fanaticism. After her father’s death, there is this desire to be connected to him in some way. And losing him happens at the same moment as having her throne usurped. And so that thing that would have been such a direct connection to him is also stolen. So in lieu of that, there’s that searching [through] the histories. I think imagining that at some point her name will feature next to her father’s is in some way comforting, and I find it very moving to see a person who in grief has committed themselves to the history books. As the series goes on, I think we see her more and more invested in her faith. She returns to the old gods. I think all of these actions are in search of her right; the thing that she thought she had received from her father, she is looking for evidence again and again. And part of it, I’m sure, is a choice. I think sometimes in times of loss, we can choose the anchors that we are going to cling to, and her faith becomes one. But I think there’s a narcissism in it. I think her connection with her religion is about wanting to reinforce a divine right. And I think, looking at [episode] seven when this miracle takes place, and this man claims Seasmoke, I think she feels that it’s a gift from the gods. I think it’s what allows her to ride roughshod over Jace’s very legitimate concerns about his own status. I think it’s what allows her to stage a massacre, essentially. She feels that she is riding on the wings of her faith. But her faith, and her belief that she is the ruler that is supposed to sit on that throne, are completely enmeshed.

They continue:

What is going through Rhaenyra’s mind as she watches the Targaryen bastards be devoured and torched alive? I think she feels like a god. I think she feels super proud. I mean, I think it’s uncomfortable. I think there’s something, actually, also that ties into the religiosity — even being back in proximity to dragons, to that fire, is to somehow be living her birthright. To be soaking up the divine, somehow. And do you think that she feels as though the decision to essentially stage a massacre, as you say, is vindicated when the two new bastard dragonriders are found? Totally. Without a shadow of a doubt. I mean, it’s horrendous, but I think she is now this sort of emboldened fanatic, [and] I think she’s experiencing events within a far bigger timeline. She’s imagining the history books. And you know, what’s happening right in front of her is awful. But in 300-400 years, what will be documented is possibly a very short war; a huge civil war that was averted, that this was the first ruling queen, that this ruling Targaryen queen expanded the Targaryen’s ability to have dragons within their armoury.

emma's read on this supports what we see on screen when it comes to rhaenyra's newly found zealousness. the religious aspect could lead her to do things that might have been seen as atrocities by her. it could lead to mysaria abandoning her, her riders turning on her, and we would see more of that targ madness.

gods are mentioned several times in 207. first by addam, who says that the gods are calling him to greater things. rhaenyra has never been the extremely religious sort but, in this scene, she looks like she's had a moment of clarity.

importantly, rhaenyra doesn't know who addam's father is, or hugh's or ulf's. this is simply the first time in history that a non-targaryen (at least in her eyes) has claimed dragons. it's something that she believed impossible. it can feel like destiny to the desperate and she's been extremely desperate after losing daemon, rhaenys, and continuous loss after loss with no hope of recourse.

mysaria says that rhaenyra is lucky addam chose to bend the knee to her rather than himself. and her reply is that it is ordained. this religious vocabulary being used is intentional!

her complaint against the lowborn is that there is an ancient fealty from highborn houses. she essentially implies that bastards do not have honor. mysaria corrects her by pointing out that her legitimate half-brothers aegon and aemond aren't exactly delights, but that doesn't make rhaenyra see the light. instead she recognizes that there's fealty to be had from lowborn people too. the order of things have changed, as mysaria says, so she realizes that she can lift up people who have been historically stepped on and give power to the powerless, calling them her army of bastards.

but when jace calls this out, predicting that someone (perhaps hugh?) could lay claim to her throne if she legitimizes these bastards if not by name then by offering them the power of gods. obviously, jace's concern is real, his entire legitimacy lies on both viserys' past support and also the fact that he has a dragon of his own. if any bastard can claim one, what does that make him? but rhaenyra's response isn't logical. she believes that the throne is part of her and her son's destiny. their right.

for years, on some level, rhaenyra has believed that even though people have insulted her sons, they are full-blooded targaryens. she says herself that if she was a man she could father a dozen bastards, and as heir, she gives birth to three without hesitation. these aren't strongs or velaryons to her, her sons are targaryens.

but even when jace essentially begs his mother not to give commoners dragons, bringing up her past sins and pointing out his own struggle knowing that he's harwin strong's son, her response is somewhat cold. she says now that the gods have laid this in front of her and she has no choice.

the dragonkeepers call what she's doing blasphemy and note that it isn't the gods who brought the dragonseeds to her, but she herself has done that.

Dragonkeeper Elder: This is an abomination. You sent an Andal before a dragon. The judgment was delivered. Now you would send more. Rhaenyra: Ser Steffon Darklyn was the blood of the dragon. Dragonkeeper Elder: It was a blasphemy. He was no dragonlord. Neither are these. Rhaenyra: And yet the gods have set them before us. Dragonkeeper Elder: You have set them before yourself! The dragons are sacred; they are the last magic of Old Valyria in this sad world. They are not pieces on a board for the games of men. Our order will take no part in this.

to the dragonkeepers, she's using these bastards and dragons like chess pieces in her war. but to rhaenyra, who has seen addam claim seasmoke, it seems like this is a divine right — a sign from the gods. and that's proven again when hugh claims vermithor.

addam claiming seasmoke changed everything for her. she talks about claiming a dragon as a transformation, and, in many ways, this claiming has transformed her as well. she tells the dragonseeds that their purpose now is the end the hardships of war.

she paints a lovely image promising them peace at the end, but it is a wholly false image. with vermithor and silverwing now in her arsenal, there will be more suffering, more bloodshed. there are no promises of peace now that the war has been given to the dragons, not until everyone is dead. and if that happens, well, the gods willed it, not her.

in this moment, when she says "may the gods bless you" i have to wonder, is she talking about the seven? or the valyrian gods? or the dragons? i don't think she's fully in deep, but i can see the set up for a much darker storyline for rhaenyra rather than the book plot. every time her beliefs are proven or something impossible happens, that could reinforce her zealousness.

i have always said that rhaenyra is a combination of viserys and daemon, and i think that still. i think that she has both of their madnesses within her. as she loses more, the only thing she'll have to hold onto is that prophecy and the divine right she believes in now.

even this scene from the finale promo has over-the-top messiah, chosen apostles, last supper vibes. her saying "i have entrusted you with a power only few have known" as if she wasn't desperate for them and had no say in who the dragons chose. i love it!

honestly i'm totally here for it, i think it's an exciting direction to take. i don't think rhaenyra was always like this, she might have had the proclivity for it growing up under viserys' wing, but it's the war that's pushed her to this point. desperate people will turn to things like faith in order to guide them when the real world disappoints. i think it's a far more nuanced look at a sort of "madness".

and i'm here for the conflict that will happen with daemon as a result. i think daemon will be in direct opposition to this. he's NOT the type to follow cult leaders. this will be their conflict on top of the existing power struggles. this, to me, is far more interesting of a struggle as opposed to nettles causing romantic tension. this show has a tendency to lean away from harmful stereotypes about women. pitting woman against woman is one of them, as is the hysterical woman.

daemon dying for her could be a form of devotion, or perhaps even a command from a delusional rhaenyra who believes he will survive it. daemon could end up drinking the kool-aid too after the devastations of the war or simply realize that this is the last thing he can offer to someone who is too far gone to be saved.

THIS IS THE FIRE I WANT FOR RHAENYRA. this is the mad queen setup that we could have had! targ exceptionalism and completely going off the deep end as a way of coping with an unwinnable conflict. without viserys, without rhaenys, no one is there to temper the fire within her.

i wanna ask how the rest of them didn't figure it out sooner, but they all probably went into "protective brother" mode as soon as they realized he didn't have his angelic powers to protect himself anymore. solomon didn't have those kinds of ties to simeon, so he was able to act on and use logic in a more effective way than the brothers would be able to, figuring out that something was wrong before anyone else

solomon assuming that simeon is oblivious to what's going on though? i feel like he's too smart for that to be true. if anything, he's probably either DEEP in denial, too stubborn to bring it up hc he doesn't wanna worry anyone, or mentally wrestling with the fact that he finally got what he wanted - to be with the brothers in the devildom after their fall - but at the cost of his identity

i know i'm reading too far into this, but do the boys really think that lowly of demons (themselves)?

like yes, some demons of lower and higher stature are the absolute worst people you'll ever encounter, but the brothers and diavolo and barbatos and probably numerous other demons are proof that you aren't defined by your physiology or designation or identity or anything like that

some angels act worse than the lowest of demons do, but they're still angels. being a certain race doesn't determine your personality or moral standing, it's who you are as a person

i love and hate the way simeon is so protective of luke. on one hand, that's basically his son, so i get wanting to shield him from the worst parts of the world and the worst parts of yourself

but on the other, luke is his own person, too. adults tend to forget that kids don't exist as an extension of themselves, but as people trying to find their place in the world. they aren't as naive and are way smarter than most people give them credit for

luke not voicing his concern is a result of and will continue to result in simeon shutting him out under the guise of protecting him, when in reality it's only putting more of a strain on their relationship
