I have a sad but cute headcanon:

The reason why Luigi is a plumber is because being a plumber is Mario’s dream and he wants to help him.

If it’s true, the “you’re bringing your brother down with you” line hits harder

We’ve never seen him interested in plumbing himself. I think he's more into science and learning (despite being a scaredy cat, he's shown to be really curious)

Meanwhile, Mario loves plumbing, sports, and adventure.

That being said, I’m sure Luigi is happy with his life choices. He loves being by his brother’s side ❤️

EDIT:

Luigi would be a great engineer if given the chance. Sadly the only time we've really seen that side of him was when he was brainwashed.

+ Despite being a scaredy cat, he seems genuinely interested in E. Gadd and his inventions.

I think Mario only greeted Luigi with a handshake after being rescued in Luigi's mansion 2 because at that point he had no clue what was going on.

In Luigi's Mansion 1 and 3 he knew without a shadow of a doubt that Luigi was in danger, hence the warmer greeting... be it on-screen like in LM 3, or merely implied in sound bites during the credits of LM 1.

Even though in Luigi's Mansion 2 the nature of Mario's capture is left nebulous, we can safely assume he didn't know Luigi was involved at all. And, if we know one thing about Mario, it's that he's not one to panic over his own safety compared to the safety of others.

So when he's freed from the painting he's initially just proud of his brother for getting him out.

But after Luigi helps restore the Dark Moon, Mario begins to better understand the gravity of what all is going on, returning to Luigi's side to wrap an affectionate arm around him.

And when that is interrupted by the freed– once more friendly– ghosts, Mario eventually breaks away from the celebrating specters to approach Luigi a third time to reemphasize how proud he is.

It feels to me like the behavior of a guy who only realized what was happening after the heat of the moment.

Luigi's Mansion 1 - 2 headcanon / Theory

I know the King Boo crown design is different for a reason comparing it through the series. They really didn't expect LM1 to do well for one thing or for King Boo to really stick around as far as him being a main antagonist for Luigi.

But I like making up headcanons anyways for things that have no explanation, so here I go!

I like to think that King Boo knew about the mine in Evershade Valley for some time. The red gem in his first crown could have easily come from there given the properties it seems to hold in general and how he knew exactly where to go in seemingly no time at all when he was set free from his portrait. I know we don't know exactly how long he's been freed, but I'd like to think the king isn't going to wait too long to get revenge on Luigi, let alone the kingdom he helps protect and comes from.

But as much as I do like to joke he has anger issues, the guy can wait to act out a plan so. Again. who knows. Lol

All and all, he needs a gem of some sort to empower his magic. To me, it feels like that gem is meant to act like a wizard's wand or something. He can still use powers without it, but with it, they are amplified. As for his replacement gem, could be his boos located a purple gem first or maybe King Boo stole some magic gem item from the person who foolishly freed him from his portrait in LM2.

Could also be how the person even managed to free King Boo to begin with as that gem and the tactics Gadd has can undo painting prison (if I am going to pull this whole theory away from my own Gijinka version). Maybe the person who freed him once worked at the mine and had a special souvenir. Who knows. The moment he finds a replacement gem, he decides to get to work on the thought of empowering his boo army with the power these gems seem to house.

The only problem he seems to have though is he cares too much for his boos to put them at risk, so he decides then to break the Dark Moon and get the Evershade Valley ghosts on his side. Using mind controlling tactics, he is able to have them work for him in stopping anybody who would oppose him but also experimenting on them with the gems found in the mine.

Better to put a bunch of ghosts you don't care about at risk than your own kind feels very on par with him. It also sounded and looked like those ghosts were in agony, so I doubt he'd want his boos to be forever crippled in pain just for the sake of revenge and building the strength of his army. Thus, he no doubt sees these Evershade ghosts as fodder for the most part. Very indifferent what becomes of them and far more upset when his own falls.

Because I don't care what anybody says. Him saying 'all those ghosts—useless!' in LM3 sounded more like he was referring to Hellen and her employees. Not his boos haunting the mansion (even if they felt like they were a last minute add-on to remind you they're in the game helping their ruler). Rarely do I ever hear him calling his boos as ghosts anyways. He calls them boos more often than not.

Mario headcanons 1

He is bisexual, he likes both girls and boys.

When someone tries to intimidate Luigi, Mario protects his brother (He almost kills the person).

Even though Mario and Pauline have broken up, the two still have a crush on each other.

Mario and Bowser Jr are great secret friends, at the end of Bowser's fury, Junior sends a letter to the plumber with his drawings, Mario almost cried with the drawings.

When Mario is kidnapped by Bowser, the whole gang goes after the big guy and almost kills Koopa.

In Luigi's mansion. King Boo keeps annoying the Mario, because he manages to stop gossiping or irritating the plumber!

✩ Absolutely ^^! I’ll tell more than a bit xD so prepare for an info dump 👌🏻

✩ So in this au, it takes place after Luigi’s mansion 3. E.Gadd has finally come to the conclusion that king boo is going to continue to cause havoc for them all no matter what he does, especially because whenever he gets captured- he always ends up getting loose with more and more vengeance fuelling him… so what should he aim for? A peace treaty.

✩ With a lot of back and forths, king boo begrudgingly agrees to back down from his evil schemes (as it definitely beats getting captured all the time,) and during this agreement he is given the blue crown replica, a strong device that monitors his magic and evil thoughts to keep everything at bay (so nono attacking people.) He admitted that the previous crown was noticeably becoming more effective over his emotional state and mind, which he was getting scared of, so E.Gadd did a little tweaking on the thing to help heal his mind.

✩ And so, the first step in his plan- make Luigi and king boo friends- which goes… just as well as you think it would-

✩ E.Gadd didn’t make it crystal clear to poor king boo that he was expected to settle his differences with his arch nemesis AND spend time with him. So things were rather rocky at the start…

✩ But even with their clashing personalities, trust eventually begins to form, and king boo slowly but surely starts to get over his hateful ways over the green plumber, and eventually starts to care for his safety (as small as the gestures may seem…)

✩ and by near the end of it all- king boo has replaced his boiling hatred with lighthearted pranks, jabs and a fun rivalry. It will take a lot out of him to ever admit that he’s come to actually like Luigi, or say that he sees them as friends. And Luigi, while still a bit jumpy, finds himself dropping his guard a lot more around the ghost king, as much as he doesn’t likes to admit it either xD

KB as Luigi's toxic ex.

Me, @istadris and probably many others who have seen their post have headcanoned that King Boo is Luigi's bitter, toxic ex who is pissed off that he was dumped and wants him back. Last night I came up with a literal timeline of how everything went down from LM1 to LM3 and I want to talk about it.

Lm1: KB was just another villain trying to show superiority, didn't even think Luigi would show up to save his bro and didn't have any traps or plans to defend against him, didn't even think he had to, hence why only the boos and poltergeist were actively aggressive towards Luigi, as it was under KB's command since he didn't want him getting Mario back, who was the actual priced possession at the time. Heck, there weren't even any Toads to save from paintings which shows KB's main goal.

Aftermath: KB is defeated and is shocked that he was defeated by Luigi, the second, shadowed brother of the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom with only a damn vacuum and some tiny elemental spirits he found hidden in the mansion. He wants to be mad but he's more curious and intrigued instead. This then leads him to try and learn more about the green man, heck even getting into Mario Kart, Mario Party and other games like this to try and approach him after hearing that Bowser was invited to these events too (He couldn't get into Smash Bros cause then it'd be too many Mario characters).

Start and end of the relationship: Luigi and KB know each other more personally now and they it ends up with them dating. But, KB is still an egotistical king that wants more power and he finds the purple gem stone that he replaced the red one with and it makes him more insane and aggressive. Luigi is scared and has to break up with him, trying to do so as lightly as possible so KB isn't too hurt emotionally and they can still be friends. Take three guesses on how that went based on LM Dark Moon. KB is furious and in denial, not wanting to let go of Luigi, but when he doesn't succeed he's so enraged that he swears to get revenge for this and keep him forever.

LM Dark Moon: KB learns of the new, docile ghosts that stay calm thanks to the power of the floating crystal called the Dark Moon (which I honestly want to look more into) and shatters it to unleash chaos and gain control over them. By this point, he knew how Luigi was the only one who could actually take on ghosts and boos and that he was more closely associated with EGadd so he was certain that he'd be called to do the job. Also because he kidnapped his brother again. The toads were just there and why not trap them to make it more fun? Afterall, the Toads were proper assholes to Luigi in way too many games so he took this chance to punish them for it. I don't think KB created all these mansions, he just found them and used them as his arenas, letting the ghosts figure out the how each one operated and use it to their advantage, with the boos often keeping them in line to the king's goal at hand. Even so, it was obvious that KB was more focused on doing actual harm to Luigi, with the creatures he created thanks to his new gem, to controlling the ghosts and even cursing the broken pieces of the Dark Moon, to going as far as to open a portal and let so many ghosts in that it nearly lead to the dimension collapsing on itself! All of this in a single night! I also want to point out the part in the scene at Secret Mines, where the boos had the ghosts in those red crystals to make them more powerful, taunting them while they themselves looked scared and trying to free themselves before having all that power forced into them and driving them crazy? That probably gave Luigi PTSD since he went through something similar with a worse outcome. And to top it all off, when he had finally all the pieces and thought he could go back to the lab to prepare to get Mario with probably the help of the ghosts, KB sabotages the camera that pixelated Luigi and went him in a pocket dimension that no one would be able to reach them and he couldn't escape from on his own. Honestly, I loved how they didn't have KB move at all besides him floating and staring at Luigi like that the entire time he mocked him, it made him look way scarier, like the calm anger mixed with menace. KB probably tried to make a deal that he'd let Mario go if he came back to him and ruled the land with him but Luigi refused and the fight started, if he couldn't make Luigi come to him willingly then he'd look lovely in a painting above his throne.

LM3: KB. Has. Lost. It. He is royally pissed and more psychotic than ever. He has become more ruthless and desperate to make Luigi pay before he is captured, knowing he couldn't save anyone, especially his bro and the princess. He was truly lucky he found such a naive ghost to willingly and obediently do anything he asked for and made the hotel probably as luxurious as his own castle as a way to show Luigi that this was the luxury he could have had but won't be able to enjoy now that he controlled ever spec of it. He is set on punishing Luigi in the worse way possible, the bosses using terrifying methods to defeat him, all unique and terrifying. Have you seen the T-Rex one? All ghost bosses had some strategy but that boss fight was immediate with no strategy except brute force and desire to kill. And the hotel is filled with deadly traps, spiked walls that slowly close in on you, locked in a room with deadly gas, axes swinging from the ceiling to slice you, the ceiling being threatened to collapse on you in a slow and torturous way, the list can go on but you get the idea. Luigi is greater danger than he'd ever been and at this point, KB is set on having Luigi alive or dead as long as he's his. He is sick to double-death with him slipping away from him when none of this even needed to happen.

I just finished Luigi's Mansion 2 and learned some things:

E. Gadd has over 700,000 Toads in his employment and zero secretaries to keep track of any of them (which explains why he sent the toad with chronomentrophobia to watch over a clock factory and forgot that there was more than one toad charged with guarding the artifacts in The Treacherous Mansion.)

I thought that E. Gadd selling King Boo's painting at a garage sale was fanon or lore you had to dig for, but no, the old man straight up sold the king of boos to some stranger over the counter.

High I.Q does not exempt you from stupidity, it seems.

On a similar note, there was no direct dialogue saying that E. Gadd brought on Mario to help fix the dark moon before contacting Luigi. E. Gadd says "I knew I should have gone to you first" at some point, but that could mean anything. ...So it's still possible that King Boo just straight up tracked down Mario and kidnapped him unprompted out of sheer spite.

King Boo is very well acquainted with the fact that contact with certain crystals can boost a ghost's power while slightly altering their appearance. This reinforces my theory that Luigi's Mansion King Boo and mainline King Boo are the same guy.

Apparently, if there's too much paranormal energy running rampant in our dimension, it will collapse in on itself. I think this would make a VERY good crisis to drive the plot of a future Luigi's Mansion game.

Despite E. Gadd's social ineptitude and occasional incompetence, he really does seem to care about Luigi deep down. Heck, I'm willing to bet that Luigi is E. Gadd's only real friend (for good reason tbh but it's still kinda sweet.)

I'm also going to be mentioning "Headcanons of mine", and it's one of them:

We can know Luigi isn't able to see him directly, or at least maybe only out of the corner of his eye. It can be easily assumed that it's because of his fear for him, despite defeating him, the plumber green still terrified of him.

YET, there is another reason....

Just look at this picture!! His eyes!! It seems that in his pupils has his own dimension or he wants to absorb your soul. Without a doubt, it's terrifying to see him...

Why?

Well basically because TikTok restricted me because of the "copyright", because of the musical tone of the ending where that scene was. And putting the scene, without the music, I honestly didn't like the idea, I felt it wouldn't be the same. So in the end I discarded it.

Based on what you've shown, does the Luigi's Mansion series exist in your verse? If so, how do you think your Luigi would react in the series with the Mansion(s) and King Boo and Mario being in a painting (if this happens in your verse that is)? I'm curious bc I like the way you portray the Mario Bros. bond.

Hmm... hard to tell. 🤔

I've talked a little bit about King Boo before, but if I were to add him in my art at some point, chances are the events portrayed would stray quite a bit from the source material. I would probably borrow a few elements shown in the games and use those either as smaller plot points or subtle references, but other than that, I would mostly try to give it my own spin. 🤓

Luigi facing a supernatural entity and ending up having to somehow fight it in order save everyone (including Mario!) sure is a fantastic premise though! 👀👏 I guess I'll see where inspiration takes me. :3
