You arrived at the Forest House five minutes before the coronation of the new High Lord was due to begin. Moving to stand in the corner of the room, you scanned the guests. As Eris Vanserra’s most trusted spy and assassin, you’d been assigned to protect him and his brothers. You just hoped one brother wasn’t here. Memories plagued you every night. Of him falling in love with Jesminda. Of him leaving you for the spring court even when you’d been his best friend, his right hand woman. He’d abandoned you to the mercy of Beron Vanserra.

“Everything just takes me back To when you were there To when you were there”

But most of all, when you were promised something. You slipped back into the memory.

“Hey Y/n? You know I love you right?” Your heart rate jumped. Hope igniting in your chest.

“What about Jesminda?”

Luci laughed. “No not like that silly, you’re my best friend.”

You really did feel silly now. “Yep. Of course.”

Lucien offered his pinky. “Best friends forever, right?”

You hooked your pinky within his. “Forever.”

“Y/n!” Tamlin’s voice sounded, breaking you from your thoughts. The High Lord of Spring had been your friend ever since he’d found you half-dead from one of Beron’s interrogation sessions on Lucien. He’d offered to take you to the Spring Court with him but you couldn’t stand the thought of facing your best friend.

“Hi Tam. I’ve got to go. Eris’ brother Raven looks like he needs help from all the ladies.”

Tamlin laughed at you, “This is what your job has descended to? Saving Raven from ladies?”

You smiled and flipped him off over your shoulder as you slid between Raven and the females.

“Hi Rav! Wanna get a drink with me and go make out?” The females scowled and murmured as they stalked away.

“Thanks Y/n. You’re the best.” You hooked your arm through this as the final guests arrived.

The Day Court.

Helion leading his entourage with Lucien a step behind. You looked away, trying leading Raven in the opposite direction. But it was too late, he’d already seen his little brother.

You winnowed away. You couldn’t do this, face him after four centuries of silence. But he was still Lucien. Your Lucien. He looked the same.

“You look like a movie You sound like a song My God this reminds me, of when we were young Let me photograph you in this light In case it is the last time That we might be exactly like we were”

“Fuck!” You screamed, pounding on the nearest wall, welcoming the sting of pain. But… you could do this, talk to him. You had to. You just had to. Did he still remember you? You walked back to the celebration grabbing the strongest glass of wine you could find. You could do this.

Three hours later as the sun went down you still hadn’t talked to him. He’d been approached by everyone! Everyone wanted to get on the good side of the future High Lord of Day. But now, everyone was heading out and the room was empty except the 7 brothers and you. You approached your High Lord first, patting him on his now-crowned head in affection. Eris hissed and swatted your hand away as Raven shook his head watching you with a smile.

“And a part of me keeps holding on Just in case it hasn't gone I guess I still care Do you still care?”

You looked up and there he was, in all his glory.

“Oh, Y/n. Hi.”

That was all you got. After a century of being his best friend and supporting him through things. After going through a dozen sessions of Beron’s interrogation and not spitting a word about his glorious ass. All you got was a ‘Hi.’

“Lucien. Nice to see you’re doing so well after four centuries.”

You knew all his brothers were watching this, hearts breaking for you. They’d all taken turns (they called it required shifts) comforting you for two centuries. Telling you that Lucien wouldn’t just throw away a friendship like that. And yet here you were. Thrown away. Deposited. Trashed.

“Yeah well ummm. Eris could I talk to you?” And there he went, four centuries of waiting.

And he’d walked away.

He didn’t even look back.

I’m not at all an ACOTAR fan but I also adore Elucien and feel the urge to write a Howl’s Moving Castle inspired fanfic set during the first book where Lucien, instead of living in the Spring Court, moves around Prythian in a castle (hence the Howl’s Moving Castle bit) and one day Elain wanders upon him and somehow ends up hired as a cleaner in order to earn money and romantic shenanigans ensue

The discussion of choice with Elucien & comparing Elain's choice to Outlander

Something that has become a popular topic recently is this idea of choice when discussing Elucien and their mating bond: that Elain should be allowed the option of rejecting the mating bond with Lucien.  And we can skip past this morality test people (E/riels) often like to make...let's just talk about it from a fictional standpoint and how this idea of choice is a popular trope in fantasy media. Because guess what! Elain is fictional. Lucien is fictional. Their bond is fictional.

This idea of choice has been in the books since Lucien first whispered that Elain is his mate at the Cauldron. Lucien whispering that she is his mate during the most traumatic moment of her life was a rash decision on his part. He said it out of shock, because he thought Jesminda was his mate and died before the bond could snap.  But the interesting thing about that (and something that E/riels either deny or don't like bringing up) is that he has given her the option of choice since that moment and beyond.  In fact, I think she has more room for choice than her sisters did, because unlike them, she has known the truth from the very beginning.  Unlike Feyre, because Rhys knew she was his mate but didn’t tell her. And that was for a lot of reasons but it did serve himself, he didn’t her to push him away because of that knowledge before she could get to know him.  She and Nesta were forced to be in the same room as their mates. 

Lucien has been giving Elain space to choose.  He is cautious around her, because he sees that she is uncomfortable, that he fucked up, that she might resent him for allying with Hybern even though it wasn’t his fault and he did things to counteract that.

I totally think that Lucien will give Elain the room to reject the mating bond, maybe even suggest it. And this brings me to something that happens in Outlander because yes, I have to make more comparisons between Elucien and Outlander because if you didn’t know, SJM is obsessed with outlander and used Jamie as inspiration for Lucien.

This is spoilers for S1 E11:

Claire finally tells Jamie that she is from the future, that she accidentally traveled through the stones to the current timeline of the 1700s.

This was a huge pivitoal moment, it was a secret Claire had been keeping for a while and Jamie finally understood who she is, why she acts the way she acts, and that she has been wanting to get back to her old life.  

And he takes her back to the stones.

Quote from the show:

"It's what you wanted.  Aye?  What you've always wanted...to go home." "It's your own time on the other side of that stone.  You've a home there, a place, the things you're used to.  And Frank.  There's nothing for you on this side.  Nothing save violence and danger."

He tells her that it would be good for her to go back.  It’s her own time, it’s the things she’s used to.  "There’s nothing for you on this side.  Nothing save violence and danger."

He says goodbye to her and expects her to go through the stones because it is what he believes she wants.  

He leaves her at the stones and goes down in the valley to make a fire for the night and is ready to leave in the morning, and she comes and chooses him.

She says “take me home to Lallybroch”.

I compare Jamie and Claire to Lucien and Elain quite often: SJM says that Lucien is inspired by Jamie and I think this could be just one of those similarities. They are both selfless. They sacrifice their health, wants and needs for other people, even if it's so painful for them. Their love is unconditional. So I'm like...is this not something that Lucien would do for Elain?  He sees that she is possibly uncomfortable and not interested.  She misses the life she once had as a human, and she might be getting more comfortable with the IC and the Night Court. 

I can imagine him and Elain finally getting to know each other but Elain still hides her feelings for him, she is cautious to accept her mating bond because it would mean she accepts this fae life, and he is kind enough to accept her rejecting the mating bond if she wants to.  He could say it's too dangerous for her to be mated to him, that she won't have a life with him because he's an outcast with no title.  He is struggling to find a home.  

But Elain ends up choosing him.

The agency of choice is such a fascinating (and frustrating) thing to talk about when discussing the mating bond and it’s interesting how people talk about it when it comes to Elain because her choosing Lucien can be written in such an interesting way.  We can have this with Elucien: SJM can discuss Elain’s reluctancy, her complex feelings for Lucien and being fae and the trauma she’s experienced.  It’s reluctant mates, mutual pining, suppressing feelings, all popular tropes in the romance genre.

Yes, she could choose Azriel instead.  She could choose to have no male in her life at all and leave the Night Court entirely.  And she choose Lucien.  She could learn who her mate is, how good of a male he is, she could explore her feelings and why she is reacting the way she’s reacting, why she’s staying away, and she could choose him.

first, thank you for reading. second, it’s honestly unlikely i’ll return to coa. jw4 did the opposite of inspiring me — it was a massive let down and it kinda killed my hype for the franchise :// I think i’m at a point where i’m done fooling myself and can admit that the characters in that series have outgrown coa boundaries.

however, if you like coa you might be happy to hear but all all original characters in that series, including v herself, are main characters in the original novel series i’m working on.

uhhhhh I haven't written much lately, but one of my favourites is The Heiress. It's a Lucien fic, back when he was Lucien Flores to us. It took me some time to think up and I always love a lil femme fatale/sub! Pedro character moment <3

Another one is a headcanon of Older!Joel and reader. The video just warmed my heart, with how domestic the setup was and as a single person, it's like a small wish of mine that will hopefully happen for me (fingers crossed!)
