Talking about Lucemond

So I talked about how judgment with this ship in the fandom is weird bc like it’s honestly not that bad compared to other ships. And the ships that are arguably worse are praised more and hated way less than Lucemond.

But that’s not what I want to discuss when it comes to them. But for a few other arguments thrown at them.

One is about the characters ages. Most people assume that the ship is a pedo ship…and well. Most people ship them from the show. And if you do the timeline as how the show lines events up it only makes sense for Aemond to be 16/17 and Luke 14. So that would mean that no, it’s not a pedo ship. They are both under 18.

And while in the book yes Aemond would be 19, again it’s not nearly as bad as most of the ships in the series. And again most people don’t use the books for the ships.

So that brings us to another reason. The actors ages. Ewan was an adult when filling and Eliot was not. Never mind the fact that most people don’t ship the actors when shipping characters, what about Rhaena and Luke? Phoebe was an adult when filming with Eliot who wasn’t. So should we shame people who ship Rhaena and Luke bc of their actors ages? I have no problems with that ship, I enjoy that ship. But if you want to hold a standard to Luke and Aemond you should with Rhaena and Luke.

And then lastly there is always the argument that “oh he slashed his eye” “oh he hates him and killed him.” Is it toxic? Yes. But so is so many other ASOIAF ships. If you want to judge Luke and Aemond as a ship you have to judge 99% of other ASOIAF ships

luke oftentimes naps in odd places around the red keep; by a sea breeze facing window in the library, near the kitchens for the scent of lemon tarts, on a stony alcove in a deserted wing, in the godswood beneath the shade of the ancient tree. servants and guards and even noblemen alike are used to seeing the dark haired youth and fast learn to leave him be.

aemond discovers he likes to watch luke sleep and fast becomes a secretive habit. when he finds the fair-faced prince blissfully sleeping, he takes to watching him for a time before shaking off the untamed feeling that grows hot in his chest. and yet still he returns time and time again. sometimes he will purposefully search the red keep in hopes of finding the boy because he thinks that his nephew will never afford him the pleasure of his company otherwise.

very unserious topic but also i am asking very seriously. why do we think omegaverse is so popular in hotd fanfiction but virtually nonexistent in asoiaf fanfiction. for reference, out of the 24,508 house of the dragon fanfictions currently on ao3, 1,728 of them are omegaverse, amounting to approximately 7%. that might not seem like a lot, percentage wise, but compare that to asoiaf/got fanfics, which total 76,094, of which only 504 are omegaverse, just over 0.6%. what gives? btw i do have a job im just on annual leave just FYI

I was wondering how I could make episode 4 about lucemond and this tweet crossed my tl and I'm so grateful for it (spoilers ahead)

the striking difference in how aemond looks after killing rhaenys (fuck him for that, i love him still) and fucking up aegon, and then how instantly regretful and stressed he looks after realizing he killed luke.... luke will really be the one thing he regrets in life, the one kill that will forever haunt him !

BROKEN lucegon & lucemond

The sound of skin and bones hitting metal was the only thing that could be heard, the guards looked blankly at the scene before them, but inside they could not believe and did not want to see the now king Aegon beat his brother, Prince Aemond.

In the same way he did with the assassin called Blood.

But it was little, his heir had died and all for his uncle, paying the debt of “A son for a son”, making the king filled with hatred for his uncle and secretly -in their eyes- his own brother.

– You took my son from me… – he said breathlessly and raised his arm with the iron bar, delivering a blow again to Aemond's face – and you took my omega from me…IT'S NEVER ENOUGH FOR YOU!

He screamed.

After days holding in the feeling of bitterness and pain for the horrible news his brother brought after Storm's End, trying not to hear his mother's speeches and his grandfather's harsh words again, he swallowed it all and pretended so well…

That the death of the only omega he had loved and desired had died at the hands of his brother...also not giving Aemond the satisfaction that he had already wounded him, that he had finally won.

And then his tragedy happened, his son, his heir murdered.

Aemond had, again, taken away a person he considered his, from his property and the damned one did not seem sorry for what he caused in him, only showing his sympathy and comfort to his sister.

– Lucerys belongs to me – still beaten, with a purple eye and cheekbone, with blood dripping from his chin, he smiles mockingly – and you know that perfectly...your majesty.

The mockery in his voice, the look of superiority and the way he referred to him…

Again he raised his arms and dealt another blow.

It hurt.

Because it was the truth, but he would never admit it out loud, no word of what he said about the omega would come out of that dungeon, Lucerys Velaryon would never be named again.

He would avenge his son, he would make Daemon pay and make him suffer so badly that he would beg for death.

He would leave his brother to the end, the murderer of the omega he desired and the cause of the death of his son, he would not leave anyone without paying for his suffering.

Imagine if the reason why Rhaenyra did find Luke’s body and only found a piece of his cloak and a dragon wing is because of Aemond.

After what he’s done, he goes looking for Luke. Maybe having a slim hope that Luke is alive. But he’s not, he find his very dead body.

He find a special place and burns Luke’s body, without telling anyone about it. But he also marks the area in a special way of remembrance. And in his guilt mind he visits the area often. No one knows but him.

lucerys notices that aemond doesn’t dance. more accurately, he doesn’t request the hand of ladies of the court nor is he approached by them. sometimes at aemond’s expense, aegon will cajole and tease his brother to approach an eligible candidate. luke can’t tell what prospect his uncle is made more uncomfortable by: dancing or inviting the declination of his hand. luke won’t deny his uncle is handsome but nor will he deny that his uncle’s nature can be… abrasive, even toward himself.

but luke has seen aemond dance. he sneaks down to the training grounds to watch his uncle take up a sword, duck and weave and twirl with his opponent. his footwork is fluid, precise, and masterful. so luke begins to suspect that perhaps it is not dancing that makes him ill at ease.

luke tells himself that at the next given opportunity he’ll do it. then comes next banquet, of those there are many luke notices, the time is upon him. he has to drain a goblet or two of wine to mellow his nerves. and then he’s making his way toward the outskirts of the crowd where he knows his uncle lingers.

then he’s standing before aemond who stares down at him, his lip curled in distaste, and before he can speak and scare luke away, he takes charge.

“Uncle, would you have this dance with me?”

if aemond is offended by the request or thinks it a ploy aegon has put luke up to, he’s not given the chance to question it before luke has taken his hand and leading them into the throng of dancers.

although luke adopts the ladies role, he takes lead of their movements. aemond is stiff but keeps his feet.

“You’re a natural uncle,” Luke says sincerely.

“Do you mean to make a mockery of me taobe?” his uncle asks, a hardness to his tone.

“No uncle,” Luke says. “I only wish you’d enjoy yourself.”

“And you thought I would dancing? With you?”

“You might if you’d allow yourself,” Luke quips.

aemond holds his tongue and to luke’s delight continues to dance with him although he could just as easily walk off and leave me to be the mockery of his mother’s guests. even more so, when the next song begins to play, luke looks up at aemond in question. a breath of hesitation leads him to believe that aemond will excuse himself, only for his uncle to incline his head and offer his hand.

they lose themselves in the folly of dance and music and each other. aemond truly is a skilled dancer, luke thinks. his cheeks are warm and his throat parched from breathless laughter. and as they embrace intimately, ignorant of their audience, luke feels aemond’s hot breath puff against his face, the intensity of his gaze, and he drinks in uncle’s attention and all that’s he’s longed for and more. selfishly - childishly - he wants to beg his uncle he will dance with no other, but luke knows his uncle has indulged him this night and will not do so again.

with this in mind, knowing it shall all end terribly when his uncle will push him away in revulsion, luke lays his head upon aemond’s heart and closes his eyes.

What a blessing that I only watch this hilarious show to better visualise my heads and don't take anything else seriously, so it doesn't distress me too much. I especially like to look at some scenes from the perspective of ‘everything is the same, but Lucerys is alive’ (yes, you got it right - from Lucemond's perspective).

What would Aemond have done, for example, if Blood and Cheese had still killed little Jacaerys and Luke was imprisoned in the Red Keep in that time?

Because Aegon would have absolutely demanded Lucerys' head as retribution, demanded it much more strongly than the perpetrators of his son's murder. So, you think Aemond would have accepted that? Would he have handed over the boy, who was in the Red Keep only because of his will (a stupid whim), who was now his hostage and responsibility, to Aegon? Or would he have confronted his brother, his king, much earlier, and how would it have been? Because, as we know, he would have had the courage and rage.

These are such interesting questions that need to be explored...
