Been thinking about this for a good while, but I was thinking of writing out my own horror + romance kind of thing at some point but I don’t got any programming skills or any of that jazz, so I’ll just have to stick with writing 💔

Basically, I have some characters, Lucas Buford being the main love interest. More about him:

He is a half-vampire, his father left before he was born and his mother raised him all on her own. Due to the time period they lived in she was berated by the people around her and Lucas couldn’t make any friends so it left them both in isolation, but for Lucas at the time, it was okay because all he needed was his mother. Then her unfortunate passing came and Lucas would become a hermit, he was depressed and lonely, and it stuck that way for a century, until current date, he had met a trans man called Eli.

After Eli ended up storming out of his home due to a family issues, he soon came across Lucas who was having a depressive episode, disassociated at the time as he was sitting on a cut-down tree in the middle of the woods. Eli plopped down next to him, greeted him with a simple, “Hey, you down too?” And after days of Eli coming to pester and talk to him, the two eventually bonded and became friends.

Lucas ended up growing very attached and Eli got his new best buddy. Lucas got to learn what was happening with the modern world, educated on just about everything, and soon came to realize he was bi. Soon Eli moved out of his parents house and became roommates with his older brother after they patched things up, and Lucas was dragged into living with them too since Lucas’s old childhood home was deemed unlivable by Eli. And after that Lucas started attending college with Eli, and due to him being pretty fuckin’ smart and being able to pick up things easily, he ended up being Eli’s tutor.

And that’s the story so far, as how he met the MC (or you in this case) would probably be through college. But I’ll work on it more, but I did have a plot in mind initially that I’ll also post (warning it’s older writing and I’m just copying and pasting from a discord chat.):

So, I’ve had this idea now… I kinda really wanna do make my own Yandere man game at some point, getting hella inspired, so here’s something.

You were packing to leave your old dad’s house, (you can choose whether you’re adopted or not) and he comes in and says, “You don’t really have to go, you could always stay with your old man!”

After a heart-felt goodbye you leave to enter a new city, you’ve got roommates. You already got a job, you’re going to college, etc. and well, even after everything seems ‘perfect’, it’s really not. Somebody’s become obsessed, and they’re watching your every move. You are not alone.

Fate is uncertain.

Now more about the dad, so he is your very supportive father that has raised you since you were a wee lad, he has been a good influence. So, cool and laidback, takes you out fishing, endorses your hobbies, when you get too stressed he’ll do what he can to help, a very accepting father, overall just a good father figure, made to be a likable dad. He’s also pretty tech savvy.

In the last decade, it’s become a common refrain among fans and industry players alike: the filmmakers should’ve “planned it better.” This trilogy could’ve been mapped out; those five sequels needed to be outlined first. Perhaps this is inevitable in an era where “shared universe” is part of the everyday vernacular, yet I cannot help but be amused when folks grow wistful over sequels with allegedly concrete roadmaps: franchises like Star Wars, Godfather… and the Back to the Future trilogy.

Whenever social media discussions about sequels or franchises that most smoothly told their sagas rear, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale’s little trio of time traveling adventures always spring to the forefront. With their economy of storytelling and strong fixation on characters, particularly lovable Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and eccentric Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), the three movies’ narrative is as stainless as the steel doors on the DeLorean. Even innocuous, seemingly throwaway details in the first movie turn out to have unexpectedly delightful payoffs in the sequels, such as the Doc’s interest in discovering who will win the next 25 years’ worth of World Series games.

Of course the irony in this is that Back to the Future was not planned as a trilogy; this was a “universe” structured around only one story, with its sequels acting as mere expansions on those initial foundations. Even the “cliffhanger” ending of the first movie, with Marty, Doc, and the original Jennifer Parker (Claudia Wells) piling into a now flying DeLorean to “do something about your kids,” was never meant to be more than a gag.

“We never designed the first Back to the Future to have a sequel,” director Zemeckis confirmed on the 2002 DVD release of Back to the Future Part II. “The flying car at the end was a joke, and it worked as a great joke and a great payoff. Everyone assumed we had this grand design like George Lucas did about Star Wars and had all these sequels. My only hope for Back to the Future ever was that it would make its money back.”

He goes on to say that if he had planned on doing a sequel, he would’ve never put Jennifer in the final scene—hence why in the sequel, the character (recast with Elisabeth Shue) spends most of the film asleep on a front porch.

Said Zemeckis, “I would’ve had only the Doc and Marty be in the car, and then I could’ve put them on any adventure. But what happens when you make a movie this successful is it becomes a piece of real estate, it becomes a franchise. And the reality comes at you very quickly, which is ‘we’re making a sequel. You can either help us or not, but the sequel is going to be made.’”

Fortunately, that sequel was made with most of the key players who turned the 1985 film into an enduring classic still in place, including Zemeckis and his co-writer/producer, Bob Gale, at the top of that list. Indeed, it’s even fair to look at the success of the trilogy and conclude that world-building is overrated. What makes Back to the Future shine all these decades later, both as a singular film and an appealing trilogy, is it was always about developing an intriguing story, as opposed to an open-ended milieu of content.

The first movie was originally conceived of by Gale based on a simple epiphany. While going through his father’s old high school yearbook, he came across a photograph of the old man that revealed he’d been elected class president.

“I had no idea,” Gale told Den of Geek last year. “And I’m looking at this picture of my dad, and he’s very proper and straight. And I’m thinking about the president of my graduating class who was just somebody I would have nothing to do with. We were just in completely different circles.”

This raised a million-dollar question: Would he have been friends with his dad in high school?

The dawning realization every young person must come upon, when they realize their parents and authority figures really were young folks like themselves once upon a time, had never been captured on screen before, much less in a mainstream movie through the prism of science fiction. But that’s what the original Back to the Future script did with its yarn about an ‘80s teenager inadvertently traveling 30 years into the past to spend the week with his mother and father in high school.

Granted, it’s more than the premise that makes Back to the Future so winsome. While the movie unquestionably benefits from the striking social distance between 1950s teenagers and their ‘80s counterparts—with the sexual revolution, Vietnam, civil rights, and second wave feminism between the two eras—it still plays to kids another 30-plus years later because of its intelligence and timeless universality. Taking the concept of “Chekhov’s gun” to its breaking point, there is not a single element, character, or detail set up in the first act in 1985 that isn’t paid off once Marty travels back to 1955, and then paid off again when he returns home in the denouement.

Marty’s mom, Lorraine (Lea Thompson), attempting to micromanage her children’s love lives with apparent 1950s social values? Well, in the actual ‘50s, she was smoking, drinking, and had no problem “parking” in cars with boys. Mayor Goldie Wilson running for reelection in 1985? He’s a young ambitious man on the make in ’55 (and with a keen eye for a good campaign slogan). The clock tower that hasn’t worked since it was struck by lightning 30 years ago? It becomes the gosh darn centerpiece of Back to the Future’s climax.

Everything flowed together with the precision of an actual, working clock tower, and it worked in service to the self-awareness which springs from young people seeing their parents in a different light. Plus, Alan Silvestri’s musical score just made everything Marty and Doc did seem to have the import of charging across the frontlines.

Why Fan Response to the Back to the Future Sequels Changed

So this proverbial little ‘80s teen comedy overperformed at the box office after ending on a teasing note that left viewers hanging. Zemeckis and Gale did not write Back to the Future to lead anywhere but the line “where we’re going, we don’t need roads,” but audiences (and the studio) wanted to see what was at the end of that skyway.

Thus Back to the Future Part II and Part III came into existence—but with the ambition of its creators to make them every bit as narratively complex as the first film they were borne out from. While the sequels were very much designed on the conventional wisdom that audiences want to see their favorite characters get up to the same shenanigans, Back to the Future Part II particularly subverts this. The sequences of the film set in the future of 2015 plays into “the same but different” by bringing nearly every actor from the first film back to play their same character at a more advanced age—or younger in the unnerving case of Fox being asked to play all of Marty and Jennifer’s children—but that sequence is then quickly jettisoned for something closer to It’s a Wonderful Life than Back to the Future.

Even when Gale first began conceiving of the sequels, he imagined Marty and Doc winding up in 1967 to “correct” the future. There Marty would again see his parents, George and Lorraine McFly, in shocking ways: George would be a college professor while Lorraine would’ve become a flower child, joining the hippie movement.

However, it was Zemeckis’ input that had the story fold into itself. Instead of just playing with different time periods and doing the same setup again, the director suggested using the third act of the sequel to enter the first movie from a different vantage point. He actually did what mainstream audiences supposedly want—basically remakes of the same story—but with a much more skewed sensibility with two Martys and two Docs running around, and all of them converging on a plot that involves further cliffhangers and switchbacks on the first movie, like an ending where the sequel’s Marty surprises 1955’s Doc Brown moments after Doc had sent Marty home. Now the Marty we’ve followed for the whole second film runs up behind the Doc to say, “I’m back from the future.”

Also in a quaint departure from how sequels are conceived today, the absence of Crispin Glover as George McFly in Part II and Part III stemmed from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment failing to lock actors into sequel clauses. Back then, it was assumed movies were a one-off experience, and when Glover decided he didn’t want to appear in a sequel… well, there’s a reason George McFly had to die in the alternative 1985 ruled over by a Trumpian Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson).

All of these concessions and choices made on the fly were not preordained or sketched out, but the talent involved was so keen on connecting their limitations to previous successes that they made a satisfying three-part whole out of a one-off, and without getting bogged down by fan service or further world-building. Nearly every choice made in the Back to the Future sequels—with exception to the inexplicable development of Marty being unable to withstand the insult of “chicken”—organically built off character traits or story concepts in the first one, flowing into a self-perpetuating circle.

Sure, there are inconsistencies. Consider the way the third movie is seeded into the second; it betrays a looseness to the world-building when Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen’s photo in Part II looks nothing like the character design in Part III. But it doesn’t ultimately matter. The elements that really determine the films’ quality, such as character, structure, and dialogue, are airtight across all three pictures.

Strangely though, this connective tissue was hidden at the time of release. As Gale told Den of Geek last year, there was a resistance at Universal to let general audiences know a third movie was on the way until after they’d seen the second one. There was even a fight to exclude the trailer of scenes from the third film at the end of Part II (at Gale’s suggestion).

“The biggest fight that I had with the president of Universal when we were planning the release of Part II is that I was adamant that I wanted to advertise this as part two of the three-part Back to the Future series, part two of the trilogy, and he didn’t want to do that,” Gale said. “He just wanted to say, ‘This is part two. Let them find out about part three later.’”

Gale is convinced that lack of understanding that Part II was setting up Part III led to both films being somewhat underappreciated during their releases. Now their legacy is as tightly woven with the first film, as well, those early Star Wars movies are. To the point where Back to the Future is often singled out as this rare thing—a near perfect film trilogy. That might be true, but it wasn’t set up that way. There’s a lesson in that.

-Mas papai, é sério, quero ser treinada para ser uma caçadora de sombras

-Você não é um caçadora de sombras, Lizandra, só caçadores de sombras podem ser treinados como tal- o ano era esse mesmo, 1878, e Lizandra tinha 15 anos (vocês devem imaginar o que era para ter aqui) , decidimos contar (novamente) a porra dessa história tudo de novo

O ano é 1863, (ué? Vocês vão entender) Will estava fugindo para o instituto, Tessa estava em Nova York, Rory ainda era alguém do futuro na guerra da secessão, e houvera reuniões com o objetivo de magia ser ensinada a uma mundana, que não era bem uma mundana, logo depois do jantar em que recebera Will, Charlotte conversava com Henry

-Ouvi falar que e o senhor Dodgson anda ensinando magia a uma criança mundana, Henry- disse ela preocupada- Isso é contra lei !

-Alice não é uma criança mundana, e qualquer coisa feita por ele não diz respeito a clave nem a ninguém que habite a órbita de sua magnitude – Henry era descendente de gente deixada pro lado de fora do País das Maravilhas após o feiti��o de isolamento com Caçadores de Sombra, parece que não havia nada que impedisse um filho dessa união

-Alice é o quê então?

-Ela tem o espírito de Beatriz- essa lenda era conhecida desde que a senhora Liddell pariu Alice

-Uma fada?... sei não

-O melhor que podemos fazer é não nos metermos- Henry era curioso como seu (mais ou menos) recém-imperador, e sempre acaba trazendo alguma notícia sobre eles para o Instituto, Charlotte também acompanhavam, mas mantinha segredo de todos

-Você tem razão- disse ela, e tinha mesmo, até porque a notícia era, relativamente antiga, houvera reuniões para o ensino de magia, a fim de servir para essas conversas de Charlotte com Henry, de despistar curiosos, e claro, de Alice aprender magia, ela já sabia muita coisa desde que começara as aulas, mas as vezes, havia muito, sabe, de (então... tinha referências a Princesa Sofia), mas aí aconteceu o esperado (não o aguardado, aquela coisa que ninguém fica surpreso quando acontece, mas não quer dizer que queriam que acontecesse) conseqüência, e a percepção da mesma, ocorreu tarde demais, só havia uma coisa a ser feita, e ela foi feita, (informação desnecessária de se postar no tumblr)

-Senhores do Juri- gritou Ronan (por que reciclar personagens não é com a gente)- Eu estava lá, o chão estava limpo, o que mais você quer de mim, Roque?!- Roque deu um salto na cadeira, estava pegando um cochilo, já sabia de tudo e de todos

-Eu?..Bem... nada, eu só... você está mentindo

-Tenho cara de quem está mentindo?

-Não sei, mas está

-Estou falando a verdade, não havia ninguém

-Magia!- gritou alguém da platéia e todos começaram a formular sua teoria

-é pra (alguém)- (informação desnecessária de se postar no Tumblr), Roque convocou todos a um julgamento por que errar a data e não encontrara os acusados (ele só queria esclarecer e ser justo, do tipo que da vontade de dar um tiro) a verdade é que ele queria era encontrar, e disseram para ele que o melhor a fazer era convocar um júri, seu estomago revirado também contribuiu, Nicole (agora transformada em alguém) achava uma pataquada, Sabrina estava com medo da reação do acusado e Lucas... bem, Lucas estava se divertindo com Magnus Bane, Dante Gabriel Rosseti passou passou por lá e Charles pulou em cima dele

-O que você está fazendo aqui, criatura?

(o conjunto do algo está) aqui em Londres, (frase que eu tenho vergonha até hoje de ter escrito e nem a Isabela de 2014 teria escrito uma pataquada dessa)... por que está me dizendo isso?- a face de Dylan pareceria querer gritar uma coisa que sua boca não podia, ele escolheu com cuidado as palavras que achou necessária para a introdução daquela notícia

-Você... (”andou mexendo com” seria uma outra forma de colocar as coisas)... disfarce temporário de longo prazo?

-Sim, o o glamoure serve para isso, que é que tem?- havia um “que” de impaciência na voz de Charles

-Eu acho que (alguém fez merda com isso).... a ocultar algo de você... mas acredito que não só de você- mais uma vez escolhia as palavras, Charles pressionou  a ponte entre o nariz e os olhos e respirou fundo

-Vamos lá, o que você está me dizendo e aonde quer chegar?

-Quando eu (avistou uma cena lamentável)

-E daí, o que você viu?- seguiu-se um silêncio na qual Dylan testava caras e bocas para lhe dar uma super e boa notícia, mas ele sempre voltava a expressão de tensão, até parecer ter tido uma idéia e tirar do bolso uma caixinha, abriu, pegou um charuto e ofereceu um a Charles

-Eles são muito bons, pegue!

-Eu não quero charuto... eu quero que você me diga o que viu (censurado, mas não é palavrão)- Charles parecia se controlar ao máximo para não surtar

-Pegue um, de uma tragada e eu te direi, você terá de acreditar em mim- ouve uma pausa tensa, Charles pegou um charuto, Dylan o ascendeu, ele deu uma tragada e o tirou da boca, estava com a expressão fechada e muito tensa

-Ele é realmente muito bom- sua voz e o comentário saíram leves em contraste com sua postura rígida e sua cara carregada de apreensão e impaciência

-Eu não disse? São caribenhos

-Agora me diga de uma vez por todas- Dylan ainda deu outra tragada na cara de Charles e disse (não há nada censurado aqui, só que eu coloquei só que o Dylan tinha dito, não escrevi o quê, mas Dylan disse o que tinha para dizer). Dante saiu da casa de Wolsley, este estava em Luxemburgo, quando viu a cara com que estava Charles, quis rir, era um misto tempestuoso de pavor, incredulidade e choque

-Charles, precisa ver sua cara, é como se tivesse acabado de ver robôs alienígenas descendo a terra em vassouras de bruxas, cuspindo fogo cor de rosa ao som Sweet Dreams, kkkkkkkkkkk, você podia usar isso em suas histórias, o que acha?- mas ele se assustou ao ver Charles pálido como um vampiro, mais pálido do que De Quincey (que era uma vampiro) com a respiração presa, e a expressão de Choque e pavor congelada no rosto, ele inspirou o ar bruscamente e se apoiou na parede para não cair para trás

-N-não- Disse Charles com um fiapo de voz

-Eu acho que sim- disse Dylan

-O que você contou a ele?- perguntou Dante

-Nos dê licença, Rosseti, é algo pessoal

-Me desculpe- e se retirou, Charles piscou, respirou fundo, e de novo, seu peito subia e descia irregularmente, passou a mão pelo cabelo, tudo sem tirar os olhos agoniados de Dylan

-Está falando sério?- perguntou com uma voz que estava preste a chorar, Dylan olhou para rua sorrindo, depois olhou para ele

-Não, primeiro de abril- então Charles o olhou como um daqueles tweddles do filme do Tim Burton quando não entendiam alguma coisa- É claro que sim, seu idiota! Por que eu iria inventar uma história dessas?Eu realmente não sei por que está tão surpreso?- Charles parece ter saído do transe, respirou fundo mais uma vez, olhou em volta, e depois encarou os sapatos, tremia, tremia todo o corpo, mas sua voz saiu firme

-O que você acha (que estava de fato de acontecendo)?

-Não... olha, eu não entendo muito (sobre a questão colocada), mas.. (concluir), não?

-Onde você (viu)?- ele cortou com a voz ainda firme e decidida

-(Lugar que já citei e não vou citar de novo)

-(fica na East End)l?!- Charles se ouriçou como um gato arrepiando-se

-Sim, (esse lugar mesmo), posso te dar o endereço completo, Thung Streer, 58, gravei bem para você ir lá, caso achasse necessá...

-Quando?

-Agora a tarde, as 5- Charles se virou e andou em círculos, agitando a mão como se estivesse calculando algo mentalmente, mas pela expressão, parecia estar em outro plano

-Você conta em (eu queria deixar aqui essas unidades de tempo, mas ia me entregar na hora)? Você tem cara de quem conta em (unidade de tempo), eu só consigo contar em (unidade de tempo), é essa cara que você faz quando está calculando? Você está calculando?- Dylan não parava de tagarelar

-Martin!.... Martin Roque.... se ele estiver vendo isso, ele vai morrer lenta e dolorosamente

 Charles entrou correndo na sala do Juri, quase botando os bofe pra fora (e assim que se diz?)

-Ronan, eu preciso de um cavalo, agora, sem perguntas, é caso de vida ou morte!- todos olharam para ele surpresos e pasmos, até Martin arregalou os olhos, Ronan, apesar de tudo, apareceu meio impassível, como um pai interrompido da conversa com a visita pelos filho

-Um cavalo?Você sabe montar?

-Uma carruagem, uma charrete, uma carroça, um cabriolé, uma bicicleta, um Camelo, qualquer porra, eu preciso ir para (um lugar) agoooraaaa!!!!!!!!

-Vai a pé, porra!!

-Eu não tenho tempo!!! Preciso de um veículo de transporte

-Sabe o endereço exato, Charles?- perguntou Anna pegando as chaves

-Faria essa enorme gentileza?- ela não conseguia acreditar no Imperador lhe sendo cortês, ela nem se quer havia feito uma mesura e o tratado por V. M. I. e R.

-C-Claro- ela disse, Gillene Walterscott era uma prima por parte de mãe da Duquesa, que solteira era a Marquesa das Tartarugas Falsas, nome de uma parte da praia do País das Maravilhas, seu pai era Marquês e viúvo, sua irmã mais nova tinha fugido para as terras superiores para ser uma prostituta de luxo. A Duquesa, sua prima por parte de mãe, era  uma mulher horrorosa (devido a uma tentativa de assassinato com ácido)  e com humor suscetível a comida, péssima mãe, sua irmã, outra prima de Gillene, seria muito bem cotada até mesmo pela facilidade de sua localização: Londres, mas ela era uma prostituta, restava a senhorita Walterscott, ela sabia dessa conjuntura muito antes, mas nunca imaginou que fosse mesmo acontecer, (fez a enorme gentileza), ela sempre soube, só não acreditou que fosse acontecer.
