Here she is, our one winged demon, Sephiroth. She can’t fly, but she does have a habit of climbing things as if she’s some kind of Chatot or swift. Swifts, for those in dimensions without them, are small birds that are known for climbing and clinging to things, as well as only landing to nest. Of course, our Sephiroth is not a swift, she’s a Swellow, but the shape her body makes while she climbs is very similar to one.
She’s a troublemaker because she’s curious. She loves getting into places where she shouldn’t be. She’s very gutsy, we’ll give her that. Thankfully, she never drops down from a perch to dive-bomb staff or other residents. Thank the gods, ahaha!
The staff member in the picture, the human, not the bird, is Crow, one of our caretakers.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government unveiled details of its plan to cut $500 million from government spending Thursday — and not all departments are going to be feeling the same impacts. While some agencies like the Canadian Space Agency and the Invest in Canada Hub will see more than one per cent of their spending frozen and returned to government coffers, 61 departments and agencies don't appear on the list of government bodies taking cuts. The government said the cost-cutting initiative excluded agents of Parliament and small organizations with budgets under $25 million a year. But many of those not included on the list of organizations affected — such as the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the National Capital Commission — have budgets much higher than $25 million.

so, the canadian federal election isn't until 2025 (specifically ON my birthday which will be really fun) but with the orange fucker's victory in the states, rumours that a snap election will be called are increasing. i'm seeing a lot of people say things like "i like the ndp better too, but they aren't going to win, so you should strategically vote for the liberals".
Tumblr media
based on this projection, you would think that's correct. and it would be, if we voted directly, but we don't. we vote for the MPs in our ridings, and the leader of whichever party elects the most MPs becomes prime minister. not every riding has the same projections as the federal.
for example, i live in alberta, a famously conservative province. the liberals are not currently projected to win a single riding here. on 338canada, all but two ridings range in projections from "likely cpc" to "safe cpc". one of those two, edmonton strathcona, is projected as "safe ndp", and the other, edmonton griesbach, is projected as "cpc lean". this is the current projection for it:
Tumblr media
voting for the liberals would not be the "strategic vote" in this riding. voting for the ndp would not be "throwing away your vote" in this riding. instead of immediately voting liberal this election, take a look at the polls and projections for your riding and make a decision based on how things are looking for you, not for the entire country. i think the amount of american election content we (understandably) get has made some people forget the differences in our voting system.
(if you don't know your riding, you can search your postal code on elections.ca and it will tell you. english speakers go here and french speakers go here)

Canada's greenhouse gas emissions rose in 2022, as the economy rebounded from the pandemic slowdown, according to new figures released by the federal government. The new National Inventory Report data shows emissions reached 708 megatonnes in that year, compared with 698 megatonnes in 2021. But Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault said the 2022 numbers are a sign his government's climate policies are working, with emissions totals the lowest in 25 years aside from the pandemic years.
