season 2, episode 12 “you are not your own” AKA STOP GIVING MAGNUS HELL

I like this episode a lot but I also hate it. Harry kills it with his acting as does Alan give them the props and Matt too because I know he hated all of this but ALEC HOW COULD YOU? but let’s get started

14. this is the difference between Alec and jace. Jace doesn’t take accountability and thinks his behavior is okay because he’s been through it. Alec takes the blame and leads his people. he doesn’t just spring into action. I mean, even when Alec doesn’t agree which happened all the time in season one. when he didn’t want to go to the city of bones to get clary’s memories, or to the party to seek Magnus out (which ended up being good for him.), or literally anything jace came up with. it was on Alec and Alec faced all the heat

this has to be rough on Alec. like can we talk about this? Izzy and Magnus are the two people he cares about most. if he lets them down or can’t protect them, he feels as if he has failed them. so knowing that he couldn’t save Izzy twice probably makes him feel guilty in a way but reasonably upset. but it’s not Izzy’s fault if she wants to handle things alone or preferred not to have Alec there. Alec still helped her. he put wet cloths on her, asked her what she needed, and said he would stay with her even when he was needed. Alec is such a good brother so he should take it easy on himself

23. I Ike how Alec is the only one who’s like so he just showed up out of the blue? Jace has his hands on his weapons but he mostly does that with all outsiders. sure didn’t have a weapon when Sebastian’s sister came in your life

26. people think jace thinks something is off but I think he would do that around any newcomer especially with all the Valentine stuff and finding out he can’t be trusted. I necessarily don’t think it means anything and Alec seems to take more issue with Sebastian. may it be because of Izzy or he just feels something off with him. but everyone else accepts his help and Alec is the only one that coldly says ummmm no thanks I have a warlock. and then when Sebastian brings out clary’s trauma, and Alec who of course has to protect clary (because everyone has to like her apparently) tells him to knock it off. though Sebastian did help. I’m just saying that Alec seems to be the first and only one who has a huge issue with Sebastian

I also don’t trust people who are super nice for no reason. like I cannot trust a nice 24/7 bitch because you have to be hiding something lmao

and Alec is mainly salty that he didn’t get to help Izzy but it is still questionable that Sebastian just happened by and “saved her” like no wonder Alec is suspicious

I’m stopping at 27 for today and will continue the second part tomorrow and will try to do more but this will have a lot of parts. and I can’t quit blacking out so tomorrow it is lmao

I put way too much thought into this. I haven't seen the show or read the manga in years, but since another season is coming out next year, why not?

Ciel: You had a seriously angsty edge lord phase growing up. If someone were to meet the middle school version of you and tap you on the nose, they'd cut their finger on all that edge. You were low-key paranoid about everyone and thought everyone was out to get you. You had, or perhaps even still have, a list of people who have wronged you and desire to take your revenge on.

Sebastian: You have projected so many of your own romantic fantasies onto this one character, that real men have been completely ruined for you. For you, Sebastian Michaelis set the bar of everything you desire in a man, and chances are you are not gonna fight it.

Bardroy: This is somewhat the same as Sebastian, except for the fact that a man like Bardroy will be a bit easier to find in the real world, given that he actually has flaws and shortcomings. You are rough around the edges but have a good heart. Also, you are either a master chef or are completely banned from the kitchen. There is no in-between.

Finny: You are someone who, despite being beaten down by the world around you, has allowed yourself to become a sweet, kind, and optimistic person, and I love you for it. You don't get angry very easily, but you can get kind of scary and unhinged when you've had enough of someone's BS.

The Little Mermaid (2023)

Awesome remake!!

Halle Bailey was SO PERFECT, she definitely looks like a mermaid, and she has such a naive and curious disposition and appearance to herself and her acting!!

The costumes were so creative and beautiful, I loved the different mermaid designs, especially the colors and details on Ariel’s costume, like the frills on her top, and I appreciate that they didn’t limit themselves to a direct translation of the animated version. I also loved triton’s armor that had the pattern and pearlescent or whatever effect to it

Speaking of king triton, I loved that he directly addressed his wrong but still needed some time to come to terms with the fact that Ariel coming home safe wasn’t the solution he thought it was, and that her desire to go above land wasn’t a silly, passing phase, definitely not purely a matter of infatuation with Eric. She had a passion for learning about land and the culture of humans just as marine biologists have for the sea and it’s creatures, hence her extensive collection of artifacts. Eric was only a vehicle for her to explore that interest, maybe a catalyst when her father learned of him and destroyed her grotto

The first time through I thought he came off as more lowkey abusive than the animated version, but I think that’s because they cut the scene where he’s looking on in pride and admiration at his other daughters’ concert before he realizes ariel isn’t there, and we didn’t get to see him being excited about her finding love and having the little flower etc- which all show more explicitly that he wants to be a good, supportive dad

It was an interesting choice to say that her mother was killed by humans and that was when the decision to stop going to the surface began. Even though I see the rationale behind it, it’s such a trope that I kind of prefer a separated ignorance of the human specifies (from what I remember of the original, but maybe I’m forgetting and this detail was cannon)

Some of the scenes looked STUNNING and magical and whimsical, just everything disney stands for to me, making me experience wonder again, especially the “under the sea” scene. But a few of the shots looked awkward or cheap which puzzles me a bit, as if they didn’t do well at evenly dispersing their budget- like the scene where Ursula gets giant is kinda bad to me. Also when it’s the iconic scene where Ariel comes out of the water onto the rocks, I don’t know what or why but her fingers moving over the rocks as she moves to the side to center on the rock looks really bad to me almost like she’s getting moved on a platform or something out of sight.

Halle Bailey has such a beautiful voice but I think it was definitely the best in Under the Sea, and I can only think of why because she gets to do her own little vocal riffs or whatever they’re called instead of directly matching the source material like “part of your world”

I loved the decision to make scuttle female, I think the personality grated on me less somehow, and I thought the scuttlebutt song was a cute addition, although when Sebastian started rapping it lost my appeal a bit- I genuinely love a lot of rap and think it has its place but this one in particular didn’t appeal to me as much as (for example) the one in encanto. It just reeked of a generic Lin Manuel Miranda haha- as much as I love him!

I did like the world building and the scene with the shopkeepers was pretty and warm! Very lively and showing ariel exactly what she felt she’d been missing such as her desire to dance! Eric’s room of collections was also a HUGE plus to this movie for me- because it showed how much they are kindred spirits. They are both explorers and dreamers who long to travel and learn whereas the original seemed like they just kinda happened to fall in love

I could be wrong about this but I appreciate that the deception by Ursula’s human form plus the wedding seemed more concise in this one- I hate lengthy sequences of misunderstandings

This is silly but I do wish that triton had made the rainbow across the sky, as it was one of my favorite memories/scenes of the original movie! But I think it’s nice that instead of getting married right away (but also not degrading it or denying the eventual possibility) they set off on an adventure together! Shows that a happily ever after can be chasing your passion and dreams and the love can come along with it!! In the original I get the vibes that the marriage is what finally settles ariel and Eric’s desires for something outside of their bubbles, but I think that’s boring and unrealistic!

Finally, it does bother me as always that it seems like media refuses to just let black characters have a black family/cast- it seems like they always have to be offset by either other marginalized races or white people- they’re often biracial with one white parent or it’s all blind casted or whatever, I just wish they’d let Ariel’s family be black! They do have a little explanation for it- the races coinciding with the oceans they belong to, and representation is good, so I’ll let it go, but it was something of note to me! Especially if we are to believe that ariel was supposed to inherit her father’s place in whatever ocean they’re in (I clearly haven’t done research and don’t even know if that’s a real assumption to be made- but in the original, their tails are the only ones that match, I think, and I get the vibe that although the older sisters have their responsibilities elsewhere, that ariel is expected to stay here which also gives explanation to her desire to explore and her sisters’ indifference to it, plus more motive for her dad to want her to learn to be happy where she is- but I’m glad they didn’t put that in explicitly because that’s very Moana haha

One random other thing is that I think it would have been cool if the merpeople had helped retrieve some of the things from Eric’s sunken ship at the end of the movie, but I guess it all would’ve probably been ruined by then anyways and the humans don’t have much to offer the merpeople if we’re trying for a symbiotic relationship. And really, now that I’m thinking of it, I think I’m okay with them not coming to that cliche conclusion- just because they might now have the right to go on land/to the surface if they please doesn’t mean that they have to all agree to merge cultures and forge connections with one another. And realistically, how much coexisting is really happening when one of the communities is at the bottom of the ocean haha

Stuckys, we need to talk. Like, seriously.

I understand you're upset that Stucky is not canon in the MCU, but you have got to stop yourselves from using that fact to shit all over Black characters just because of their newfound proximity to Bucky Barnes. Seriously. No, seriously. I'm going to call a bunch of you out, now, but I hope you listen and take heed.

1) This isn't about queer representation for you. It's about Chris and Sebastian being hot white men and you wanting to see them make out on screen. And that's literally fine, who doesn't want to see that? But you need to start admitting that's what it is. Because if it wasn't about that, and it was really about queer representation, so many of you wouldn't be calling Sam Wilson "sloppy seconds", and y'all wouldn't treat both Sam and Anthony like an afterthought. Even with a lot of y'all becoming Sambucky shippers, you're doing it under the guise of Sam being some sort of consolation prize because Bucky can't have Steve. Sam has no agency, and also is treated like he isn't as good. Literally, I saw a TikTok with some girl pretending to be Bucky and Sam, and having Bucky literally tell Sam he's sloppy seconds because he can't have Steve. Literally yikes, guys.

Also, it's always girl fans who do this. I'm not saying there aren't any, but I never see gay men who are MCU fans shipping in this toxic way. And I definitely have seen gay men ship Stucky, but I swear to God there seems to be a clear difference in the way they ship vs the white girls who clearly just want to watch Chris and Sebastian make out. Literally every toxic Stucky I've ever seen who does stuff like this is a white girl. I'm not going to say no gay men are toxic fans, because there probably are some, but the amount of fans I see shitting on Sam who are white girls far outweighs any toxic Stucky gay man. Like I always say on here, Stucky is an obvious ship and I understand why people ship it, but it never had to be canon and treating it like it's the end all be all, and especially shitting on other ships like Sambucky, is really weird and, again, makes it obvious that it's not really about queer representation for you.

2) Bucky is allowed to flirt with Sarah Wilson. The same girl I saw saying Sam was "sloppy seconds" also said Bucky was only flirting with Sarah because she's an "extension of Sam", and because Kevin Feige won't let Sambucky happen so Sarah is the stand in. How insulting and sexist to insinuate that a woman is simply an extension of her male family member. No matter how you meant it, that's a really sexist notion. I've seen people make funnier jokes, like Bucky can't decide which Wilson sibling he likes, or he's going to become a Wilson one way or another. Neither of those jokes takes autonomy and humanity away from Sarah. ALSO, Sarah is a dark skinned Black woman being portrayed as desirable to the white boy fave on a major TV show that is part of the biggest film franchise in the world. I'm not sure if y'all know how much colorism effects Black women, especially dark skinned Black women. Hollywood almost never casts dark skinned Black women as desirable love interests. Especially one that isn't super modelesque with basically European features and bone straight hair. This is a positive thing for representation of dark skinned Black women, and I KNOW you've seen how happy Black girls were just seeing that 2 second interaction. How dare you reduce it to being there because Marvel stole your Stucky, and especially not because she's simply "an extension of Sam." At this point, there's no clear indication that Sarah and Bucky will literally happen, but goddamn, you can't let Black girls be a love interest for just one second? Even if you like "queer Bucky", bisexual men exist, damn. Sticking Bucky with Sharon for no reason, like they did with Steve, would have been weird and bad and you would have been more valid for questioning Marvel's motives for doing it, but letting Bucky be himself and flirt with a cute girl on a boat for 2 seconds isn't a bad thing. And if Sarah does actually become his girlfriend, it's an absolute win, and you need to let Black girls have this.

Like, I get Stucky, and I also understand wishing Marvel would just finally let any main character be actually queer. I seriously understand. But can you complain about that without shitting on the Black characters and the fans who are happy about them, right now?

I never was a fan of Stucky, because I don't think you have to have romantic feelings for someone to care about them that deeply, so I don't understand the Stucky shipper assertion that Marvel somehow stole something owed to them... but I also do understand why you ship it, and it's honestly not a bad ship. You guys just take it too far and make things uncomfortable for everyone else. And, as I've been saying for years, sometimes you make it lowkey racist. People have been shipping Stevesam since CA:TWS and you guys have downplayed it the entire time, and even used Sam as Steve's stand-in for Bucky in your fics and all of that. I remember reading fics tagged Stevesam where Steve would be having sex with Sam and then reminiscing about how it was with Bucky and wishing he were still with him, and y'all literally never saw how gross that was. Using Sam like a consolation prize. Now Steve is gone and you're still treating him like that.

And Sam and Bucky have never once treated each other like a stand-in for Steve. They treat each other like individuals with autonomy, and they even care for each other on the level that the other person needs it. It's actually really fucking good, the canon version of their relationship that's unfolded with the show. If y'all could let go of Steve for a second, literally, you would see how great Sambucky's dynamic is and that neither of them would ever see the other as "sloppy seconds" or some kind of consolation prize. It's gross.

Also, I hope Sarah gets that super soldier dick just to piss y'all off.

Never watched it and never will. Thing about Hope is, just the concept of her destroyed what could have been an amazing show, The Originals. Well miracle baby, and miracle momma. Because of that. I could never like a show centered around her. That it’s prob a bad spin off of a bad spin off drains interest too. But the biggest reason is Plec has anything at all to do w it. She’s not minor, she apparently is a big decision maker for her new mess. That alone means not a chance am I watching.

For me, first and foremost, the reason why I was against the whole miracle baby and the pregnancy plot was because of this:

Plus vampire babies is Twilight’s thing, it never fit into this universe and doing it felt like she had no other ideas left.

then she killed klaus and elijah.

Someone lied to this woman and told her she was such a good writer that she could start killing off main characters like Game of Throne writers and get away with it. Whoever you are…

Then you created another show centered around another golden vagina.

and expect people to watch another version of The Elena Show?

Like now, I’m good. If I watch for the ship, she might just sink it because it just doesn’t agree with her master plan.

Let’s get into this master plan of hers because it fucked with two shows in one

Cause come on, I don’t believe Julie wanted to end the show at season 8. Vampire Diaries was so good at one point that had she played her cards right she could’ve gotten the show to 10 seasons but NOPE she had her MASTER PLAN. Klaroline just didn’t fit into that, so she brought in Hayley…

Hayley was a character that she created as a antagonist for the plot at the time. She was created NOT TO BE LIKED. So why she mad we still don’t like her.

I didn’t like her in TVD, I didn’t care for her in the first season that I did see in TO, I’m sorry but as an antagonist…she was never designed to be liked. 

It probably is a bad spin off of a bad spin off and here’s the kicker…she made a full circle back around to create a story centered around a girl.

I’m just saddened by the fact that she couldn’t see the potiental in klaroline and how it would’ve taken her show (whichever show be it TVD, TO, Legacies or a different spin off) had she used the goldmine in which we as a fandom created for her but again…SHE HAD A MASTER PLAN.

In the end, she closed off two shows, and I lowkey believed that had the storyline been better she still would have three shows but she knew they’d be cancelled and she decided to end the shows before that, but that’s just my opinion.

Because her MASTER PLAN didn’t quite work out the way she wanted it to because no one liked hayley, so she went to camille, no one liked the pairing so she went to this aurora chick to try to bring back the spark, ultimately that didn’t work out and she decided to give up.

Now I was much interested in the pairing of Lizzie and Sebastian.

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: honestly almost every character on the show, i still like them in the books, but i just don't associate the book and the show versions with each other, for instance simon, isabelle, magnus and alec were always my faves, but on the show i don't really like any of them, i loved alec, but in the second season he turned into a character i don't even know really

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: i'm not a big fan of show malec and sizzy though both are my otps for life in the books
