craaazy that they had Eddie say “we do NOT EAT POLICEMEN” our fucking Eddie “the city doesnt care about these people anymore than the killer does” Brock? Eddie has a LIST of badge numbers to look for for a midnight snack and if he ever laid eyes on Elon Musk he’d make a lowbudget snuff film with all that he’d do to him

Spending Halloween with Severen Van Sickle
As suggested by @rock-n-macabre 🖤 turned out a bit more general but it covers some scenarios 😌
- Oh boy is he gonna have some fun.
- It goes without saying that Halloween is Severen's favourite holiday. There are not many things that warm up this psycho´s dark little heart, but during Halloween, he´s got everything he wants in life: you, his family, and the perfect excuse to cause mayhem.
- When someone suggested going to a haunted house, or a maze, Severen's eyes filled up with excitement at the possibilities.
- Everyone in the clan was on board with the idea, but it was mainly Severen who got hyped up like a kid. Only he is not a kid. He is a very bad man with very bad ideas.
- I headcanon him as filing his teeth like in the original script, but only sometimes when he is feeling a bit extra – and during Halloween, of course.
- He will be his usual chaotic self, but if certain things bother you or are too much, he won't be a dick about it. He wants you to live the ✨fantasy✨ despite being in the company of the most dangerous people in all the Southern states. Sure, darlin', let's go into this haunted house, we'll have a blast.
- But being the real deal, he may also scoff or laugh at the actors for what he considers to be poor attempts at being scary.
- God forbid he sees someone dressed up in full Dracula gear. Will have a bit of a Crocodile Dundee moment. 'You call those fangs? These are fangs', before showing off his filed teeth and chewing off their face.
- Is that Severen using someone's guts as a lasso to hunt down some other unfortunate soul? Oh yes, it is.
- Homer is cheering on him.
- Also, you know that guy that usually chases you with a chainsaw at the end of the maze?
- Well, good fucking luck because Sev's killed the guy, stolen his chainsaw, and is having an excellent time chasing people with it as he goes whooohooooo.
- Jesse is an indulgent patriarch, but he´s starting to get a bloody headache.
- In terms of dressing up, Severen would probably pull a Patrick Bateman and turn up wearing his usual clothes, only completely drenched in real blood. May or may not carry a body part as an accessory. If he's in the mood, he's dressed up in proper cowboy clothes. Drenched in blood, of course.
- Now, if you wear a sexy costume – you know it's roleplay night.
- Will demand that both of you stay in character during sex. Will also make up silly names for the lowbudget porno film that you could both be starring in. Wearing a sexy nun costume? Let´s call it 'Fangtastic night at the convent', all this whilst he cackles and is already getting into it. I hope you share his sense of humor because he's gonna be like this during the entire session.
- If there's enough time, he may also go trick-or-treating with Homer. When someone opens the door, it's feeding time.
- If it's the first Halloween you spend together, he may go a bit soft and tell you is the best one he's ever had. He loves it when you watch him do his thing, and being able to openly display his antics in public really does it for his ego.
- At the end, on the way back to the motel, he may walk a bit slower with you and ask you if you've had fun. Wrapping his arm around your waist and kissing you, smearing blood all over you.
- Once the night is over and you are cuddling up with him in bed, he will turn the TV on so you can watch old horror films together – and will try to find the worst possible ones you can imagine. 'Sev, are we really watching Death Bed: The Bed That Eats?' Shhhh just watch the film, Darlin'.
- In short, he genuinely loves it and can't wait for next Halloween.

I miss bad movies
Pretentious and possibly unpopular take but, I miss unhinged cinema. Bad cinema. Less than perfect cinema. I miss the hidden gems that went straight to DVD and you had to borrow from a friend. I miss the absolutely insanely plotlines that made no sense but had you spit your drink over yourself and once more when you tried to explain it to someone. I miss watching a movie and having no clue who any of the actors were, not because you lived under a rock but simply because they had never been in anything before. Discovering weird little freaks who you kept an eye out for in future. The shaky camera, the lowbudget scenery, the movies shot in one room or in a forest due to lack of funds. The found footage movies that were clearly shot on an actual VHS. The 1hr 27min horror delights that started off understandable and went absolutely off the deepend. The movies that were just WEIRD, but delightfully so. Who had one distinguished actor playing a role wayyy out of their comfort zone and killing it. Movies where all the characters are terrible people but you root for them anyway. Movies where you literally have no idea what's going on. Movies where the ending is so fucked up it leaves you feeling like you got hit by a bus. Movies where the mannarisms and the intination is so absurd it leaves you breathless with laughter. Movies where it starts off slow and then something absolute insane and fucked happens. Movies where everyone is put together and and then dirty and screaming by the climax. Just... weird, jumbled, stitched together shit that wasn't perfect but you got such a kick out of anyway. Movies that would probably never have gotten made, maybe shouldn't have gotten made, but were anyway, and you got to see it. That had heart because holy shit, someone wrote and directed that, and you gotta admire it!! Movies that the critics hated, that your parents probably hated, that became cult classics, loved fiercely by a niche group it really rung true for. Movies that weren't polished and perfect and oh so clever that they made you roll your eyes. I love big budget blockbusters and a stellar cast and a clever story, and brilliant special effects. I really do. But I miss all the others. The ones that I imagine will now sit on a pile, gathering dust forever. That in the 80s, 90s, 2000s would have been picked up, and by god they would have given it a go. That you'd watch and go, "huh. Okay!", or that you'd decide okay, that one is for me. That one is going straight into my collection, into my heart, I have adopted this now. Because it's not perfect, but you love it anyway. Maybe it's flaws make it lovable. Streaming has decimated the chances of those ever seeing the light of day. I'm sick of seeing the 5 or 6 "perfect, polished" films we get once a year. Where's the freaky shit they keep in the vaults. That stuff is for me, and I miss it so much
#im ranting about cinema to myself again#and i will do so until i die probably#because im a sad little film freak#movies#streaming#the downfall of the film industry as we know it#pay writers so we can get the good the bad and the weird shit back#cinema#anyway kill netflix

Today we have a true wildman, maverick of low budget film Joel D Wynkoop. Let's get in the mindset of an actor, an actor's actor. An American Brian Blessed without the beard you could say (imagine Joe D Wynkoop as Hawkman and let that sink in) . To you regulars here at Riot at the movies you will remember Joel from 2019s Terrible Two Day fest where he closed the weekends events by appearing in Clownado as the cowboy pilot. Then just before screenings shut down in the first week for March 2020 we saw him again in the first film of this year Terrible Two Day Fest with a small but high energy cameo at the very end of Dinogore.
Let's pretend we are a live audience talk show and give a round of applause for Joel D Wynkoop.
Riot: Joel you are known as a high energy guy, what do you think or even what do you hope are people's first impressions of you?
WYNKOOP: Well I hope they like my performances. There are some that just flat out say "He yells too much!" I even had an actress tell me "Stop yelling at me, you're always yelling at me" but what she didn't get is that was the idea in the movie, the Sheriff(Played by me was yelling) but she got her feelings hurt and asked me not to yell at her. "But....I'm supposed too." I told her...anyway the director pulled her aside and explained to her "...this is not real life and we were pretending" and she still didn't get it, so the director told me "don't yell at her too much." Aside from the yelling and the out of control antics of a lot of my characters, I also want to be known as the actor that can do serious stuff too. I have done parts that when they were done or in the middle of where the audience was crying because I was going for that emotional touch. I have done things that scare the audience, not to mention my co stars. My wife, before I knew her, we had just met and we did a very emotional scene when I was in her face yelling at her, later the director said to her "You were great you really looked scared." and she said "I was scared, he is a scary guy when he yells... I thought he was going to hit me." But I can also do comedy where people may say "Man Wynkoop was so funny in that" or "Mannnn Wynkoop was so annoying in that" in each case that is what I was going for. In my latest movie "THE CRAIGLON INCIDENT" I think people are going to say the latter because the character I do is annoying....but funny...I hope. If they don't like me right away or there's someone out there going "Wynkoop sucks, his movie's suck" I hope people make their own decisions if they like me or not.
Riot: Let's look back at your early break into low budget films. Which character do you relate to the most, Steve Nekoda the religious, confused martial arts man of action from Lost Faith or do you deep down feel a little more fucked up like Dan Hess from Wicked Games or maybe even worse the officer in Dirty Cop No Donut? Or is that just crazy ? If you don't feel you personally relate to them, who was your favorite character to play?
WYNKOOP: Just doing Steve Nekoda, Dan Hess or Gus Kimble I think I am a little of all of them in real life. One time... well more then once in my life...real life...I have had to step in and protect someone like Steve Nekoda would, other times I have been the smart ass like Gus Kimble and his brand of justice where I have said things like (When someone is too close to me, I mean right on my ass) I turn to them and say "Are you gonna propose?" and they say "No" then I say "Then get off my ass!" More than once I have stood up for somebody... one time I told two guys to leave the premises because the girl inside the store was scared of them. The one guy then said to me. "You got a problem with me?" I said "No, I don't have a problem with you, but you're gonna have a problem with me if you don't leave now!" He started to move towards me. I went into a striking stance and his buddy grabbed him and said "Let's go man." and they left. The cops told me later "Don't be the hero just call us next time, we have guns." Dan Hess pushed in his Truth or Dare world, is me when I get annoyed in traffic. Someone cut me off I exploded in rage, he saw me in his mirror cursing him, he stopped his car and jumped out and came after me, I jumped out of my car and yelled at the top of my lungs "Don't FUCK with me man!!" He got back in his car and left and I did the same. Hey, I'm not perfect!
Again Steve Nekoda. I am a Christian yes, I swear, I'm sorry, were all human. I will stop and pray with someone at the drop of a hat. I have ran charity events for people struggling with medical bills. I will offer you some money if they are hard up...not scammers! So I guess I am a little of all of my characters. Nick Hazzard, Dan Hess, Steve Nekoda, Parsons Cooper, Angus Lynch, Tie-Ree, Cope Ransom and a lot more. Favorite character? I think all of them. I loved Steve Nekoda cause he is like a superhero, Parsons Cooper is turned into a sci-fi superhero. Dan Hess is fun because he is an average guy with a messed up life. Angus Lynch was fun to play because he was just psycho! Same with Gus Kimble from the Dirty Cop movies. They are all fun to play, I just can't lock one particular one down. They're all fun...CLOWNADO? I loved playing that character "HAWK" for Todd Sheets!! It was a fun role to play and Todd really let me run with it. Little easter eggs too in one line almost under my breath you here my character HAWK say "I'm just about to watch a Todd Sheets Joel Wynkoop double feature, those guys kill me." Yeah I love them all!
Riot: I am honestly imagining you doing a remake of Falling Down (the Micheal Douglas movie) just so I can see you super red faced getting angry in your car and flipping out at the traffic. You have like a dozen, if not more projects on the go at any time. How's Covid treating you? Are you going stir crazy or getting some stuff done on the side? I hope the conventions come back and people can get copies of all these movies as well.
WYNKOOP: Covid? We are dealing with it. If the law, Government or whatever wants you to wear masks just wear the mask. It's not that big a deal. Yes it annoys me but I wear it because it is the law and you're keeping people and yourself safe. You know what? I knew a guy that was a nudist and he told me "Joe, I don't know why we have to wear these, these clothes, I should be able to walk around unencumbered and free, there's nothing wrong with my body, I should be allowed to walk around nude, go into the store, go to the movies, I feel like I am being persecuted against because I cannot be free and naked." Well guess what? That is what everyone is saying about wearing their masks...are you comfortable with people walking around naked in your grocery store, pet store, church, movie theater, everywhere you go? I'm not. I think if we are told to wear masks then wear them. It's "NOT" being sheep, you're being smart. If you don't believe in it... go up to a stranger and say (With your mask on) "Please hack up all over me because I don't believe in the Corona Virus... try and let spit come out of your mouth too cause I don't believe in it so I won't get it!" Then pull your mask down so you can inhale all that virus you think is "NOT" there. People say more people die from the flu then Corona? Really? Personally I don't know any of my friends that have died from the flu...BUT I Have had at least 10 friends die of the CoronaVirus in the last two months. As of writing this tonight I just found out two more of my friends caught the Corona Virus because they let someone in their home and now they have it. If you don't believe in it then you don't believe the Earth is round. Stir Crazy? Nah! If we need to get out it is because of the news. The world is really messed up now and it is all the same stories over and over again. The riots were terrible!!!!!! Anyway when it gets too much we go for a ride in the van. I just want to make movies. I can't change anything, I'm not magic. I'll just continue to make movies. Also I am editing my new movie now called THE CRAIGLON INCIDENT which never would have happened if it were NOT for the Corona Virus, I started this movie cause everyone was told to stay home, it was mandatory here! Curfew was enforced. So I asked my wife Cathy, "Hey just shoot me talking to the camera." Now spin it around so it looks like I am talking to myself as my counterpart and THAT is how The Craiglon Incident originated. It is now like two hours long in my timeline waiting to be completed. If there was no virus there would have been no CRAIGLON INCIDENT". But just editing the movie keeps me plenty busy! PLUS I ask people if they are interested in being a producer or executive producer of either or both my movies "THE CRAIGLON INCIDENT" or "BEAST MODE"(A movie we started with Debbie Rochon and Lloyd Kaufman but was shut down because of Covid) people can contact me and become producers and executive producers just by purchasing some of my movies...It's a great way to get some entertainment and build your IMDB!!!! Conventions YES!!! Me too. So many have been shut down at the last moment. We even had Tampa Bay Screams here that was slated in August but it has been moved to March 2021 and we don't even know if that will happen. Yes I miss it!! More than selling the flicks I like meeting everyone that comes to the shows. That's why I continue to do things on Facebook and make movies and sell online to keep my name out there so folks don't forget about me. I don't think I would be comfortable doing a show right now anyway, not the way things are. I have had two shoots lately, one a TV show and one a rap video and I was nervous the whole time hoping I didn't get anything from anyone. But yes it would be nice to get the world back to normal, well, not even normal... BETTER THAN NORMAL...hey that's a good name for a TV show..."Hey brother what are you doing next Wednesday night?" "Me, oh not much I'm gonna check out that new TV show...what's it called, oh yeah...BETTER THAN NORMAL".
Riot: Let this be a reminder to my regular Canadian viewers and readers of just how freaking lucky we are up here. I love America for many things but for my health situation I wouldn't trade places with you Joel for the world. Thanks for being so open with us. Ok, How do you feel your films have dated over the years? The projects you've done with Tim Ritter seem to have just as strong a twisted fan base as always if not more these days.
WYNKOOP: I think they hold up fine. You have to remember when Tim Ritter and I started there was no CGI in indie movies. It was all practical effects, if you wanted blood you made it and threw it on the actor you couldn't say "Hey put a blood splat there and make it look real with your CGI effects." Nothing wrong with CGI it is just we didn't have that then. Also editing wasn't on your home computer with Movie Maker and Premiere... (They didn't exist when Tim and I broke into this, in fact some places have credited Tim and I have been credited with the whole direct to video happening.)... it was rent an edit bay with big 3/4 machines and shuttle the tape back and forth... In the beginning for Tim and myself, Tim and I use to edit on cutting boards with splicing tape. You scratched your effects into the actual film. I remember putting "The Eight Million Dollar Boy Meets The Invisible Transport Boy" together, splicing it all together, it was an hourlong and it was hard to do that 50 feet at a time. But yeah a lot of people are like "Yeah I remember TRUTH OR DARE man that was cool!" Even Elijah Wood on all the late night shows was talking about how much he loved "TRUTH OR DARE"! "LOST FAITH" has got that same kind of attention, a lot of people really love it. BUT like all our movies... some hate them, some love them. I'll take the love over the hate... but you have to accept it all. Believe it or not I learned this philosophy from Marvel Team Up. Spiderman had just stopped the Basilik and was handing him over to the cops and Spidey said "Here you go officer, although I don't know why you would want him?" and the cop said "All part of the job wall crawler, you take the bad with the good." And that is how I take everything, especially reviews. You take the bad with the good. So yeah I think they hold up...I had a friend when STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION came out and he was like "Oh the original sucked the effects are much better in NEXT GENERATION" Well "No Duh" I told him... it's like 30 some years later but STAR TREK is still a classic show!! It still holds up today, the stories are great and I love the effects... yes the upgrades are awesome but always classic "Star Trek". There is always gonna be a better format... pretty soon movies will be like holograms and we'll be being punched in the face by the characters in the movies. Technology changes everything so you have to give them credit for the era they were made. The people that love Twisted Illusions movies and my movies are AWESOME. I divide the two because Tim and I have done alot together as Twisted Illusions and I in turn have done a lot under Wynkoop Productions and joined the two over the years. I am still a part of Twisted Illusions with Tim and he with me in Wynkoop Productions it is two small companies just trying to entertain people. We are BOTH very fortunate to have the nice people we do enjoying all of our movies and we will never forget that. I get Facebook requests all the time and I ask them "What made you want me as a friend?" and they 90% always say "I saw your movies in High School" or "I saw you in Truth Or Dare"or "I loved you in Dirty Cop No Donut" and they all say "What are you doing now?". In fact every time I think I am going to quit I get a Facebook from someone saying "I love your movies please don't stop making them." and I never will until GOD calls me home. Even then when I am gone, I hope people keep watching all my movies I have done with Tim and the ones I have done and the ones we have collaborated on. To the ones out there that watch our stuff I hope we are entertaining you because that is all we want to do, 'cause we sure arn't getting rich from it.
Joel Getting Tough in The Other Side
Riot: You do the whole package, acting, directing, producing. What makes low budget filmmaking still a passion for you and what are some of the things these days that frustrate you the most?
WYNKOOP: Frustrate me the most? Editing. I will have a whole scene in my timeline and the power goes out, I hit the wrong key and delete stuff, lightning hit the house and fries it, lightning turns out our power and I lose it. It freezes up as I am editing and I have to wait an hour for it to fix itself. When it says "SAVE" I hit no. I make mistakes when I am tired while I am editing and boom I do something wrong and it is gone and I have to start all over again. There have been problems when I was editing my TV show I was putting in the last minute touches and lost the whole thing and had to start over from the beginning again. Frustrating! I keep working at it no matter what. I like to act in all I can. When I don't have anything that is when I say it's time to make my own movie, although in this case of "THE CRAIGLON INCIDENT" it was because of Covid 19. I'd like to make more money at it but doesn't everyone?
So as you can tell I sneak more then one question in at a time and I'm glad you took the time to shoot the shit with us. I hope 2021 means we get to go crazy and make all the weirdest and wildest movies we all can think of and I look forward to seeing what you got to throw at us. Thanks again. Stay Awesome.
Also Check out Joel in Lycanimator made by our Ontario buddy Seb Godin (also of Dinogore), get the vhs horror boobs made for Wild Eye Releasing , its better then the dvd.
WYNKOOP: Thank you all for taking the time and showing some interest in this old guy!!!! It is appreciated, thank you to everyone on your staff and everyone reading this article... thank you all so much and to see what I am doing please seek me out on Facebook under Joel D. Wynkoop. Thank you!

i dunno but so many low budget movies these days are made worse by the fact that they’re filmed with digital technology like. i know this has made film-making much more accessible but the problem is this makes all these lowbudget films look even worse than they would on physical film stock because everything is too crisp.
this is particularly bad for films that are supposed to have a darker atmosphere, melancholy, creepy or what have you. and im not specifically getting into the discourse behind lighting and cinematography in bigger films because that’s a whole other debate.
what im saying is that so many shitty movies are elevated because film grain hides the cheap production values. you could argue this is also an issue of post editing, or the actual lighting IN the production, but frankly the sad fact is, if your digital movie camera isn’t like thousands of dollars per rig and thousands more for lenses and you STILL decide to go digital (of course you will it’s still cheaper and less time consuming than filmstock) everything in your production is just begging to look like a skit on beyond belief: fact or fiction

Hey! I'm back at it again with some q's!
Your MC is on Hot Ones (the show)! How's their spice tolerance like and what are their preferred hot sauces? And best of all, what "spicy" questions would they get asked?
Feel free to expand it into a HC, include your LI or even write it into a fic!
oooh thank u for including me in this question!!! <3
i meant to answer it sooner but i wanted to watch a few episodes of Hot Ones first bc I never have before but i kept getting distracted w Stardew Valley 🫠 im actually watching Lizzo's episode rn i love her so much
Avalon has a pretty high spice tolerance, he probably doesn't have issues until the last three sauces.
HWU!Avalon would be asked questions about behind the scenes stuff with his movies, what it was like going from small town, lowbudget Shakespeare productions in his free time to a triple threat award winning actor/director/writer, and what its like balancing his home life being a dad with his career.
RCD!Avalon has issues eating in front of people and would not go on the show at all.
-> Thomas would be tearing up a little over half way. He'd still make it to the end, but it would very much be the first time anyone other than Avalon has ever seen that man with tears in his eyes
-> Janey's spice tolerance is about the same as Avalon's
Baxter's spice tolerance is fairly low. Don't get me wrong, they love hot sauce, but having grown up eating shitty bland hospital food means they can't handle anything too spicy (also not to mention all of their medical issues would probably make super spicy stuff kind of dangerous for them). I genuinely can't see them going on a show like Hot Ones or getting interviewed in general honestly.
Ethan's spice tolerance is higher than their's is, no questions asked. It's not super high, and the bar of having better spice tolerance than Baxter is so gd low, but he can handle spices
Simon is cocky. He would get smug about being able to handle spice better than his uncle Thomas, and then on the very next wing he would also be crying.
He would be asked about his (fairly short lived) career as an Olympic athlete and what it was like switching from Olympic-level athleticism to doing stunts for films

WATCH The Last of Us: Bound - our shortfilm is finally released! Movie link at my bio - youtube.com/TheLastofUsINSIDE After specutations around the story of “The Last of Us: Part II”, one of the most anticipated games of 2020, Alice Monstrinho decided to create the short film based on the protagonist Ellie, imagining how one of her adventures in the sequel could be. Among the infected pandemic that devastated earth, the girl’s quest for revenge takes her to an unexpected encounter with a dog. Ellie has to face the consequences of her actions and make a moral choice. With a low budget, the film was created and produced between friends and fans of the game. The direction, production, story boards, makeup and costumes were made by Alice Monstrinho, with cinematography by Bruno Nascimento, image treatment and post production by Baltazar Sobierajski and acting by Alice Monstrinho, Victor Vieira Paulo, Zé Maciel, Bruno Escobar, Larissa Dutra Lopes, Victor Lebarbenchon, Humberto Garcia and the good girl Lariat, Alice and Humberto’s german shepherdess. The production was made in partnership with “The Last of Us Brasil”, the biggest fan site dedicated to the game in Brazil. If you have the chance to watch our movie, we’d appreciate a lot. Share with your friends and if you like it, leave us your thoughts in the comments, we would love to hear your opinion. Did a really fun short film the other day! Prepared for it one day and spent only $55 on stuff to dress the set. I'm extremely happy I got to work on this set with it's amazing Director and the magnificent DP! It's the small stuff like this that makes me love all the struggles to do what I do. So I can be a part of these fantastic shoots with people who are just as amazing as the work they put out. #film #shortfilm #60seconds #60s #set #setdressing #productiondesign #artdepartment #artdirector #lowbudget #amazingpeople #greatcrew #struggle #lookingforinspiration #worthit #music #thankyou (at Alhambra, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzWFippgRtF/?igshid=1r6wn53aob3l9

Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Czech Republic to Eurovision with an unexpected geographical sight name
youtube
Another year, another Czech attempt at a national final that wasn’t televised also BUT this time we got some excitement announcements out of them - even if they were blatantly boring, kind of.
Keep in mind though that I know that the revamp's out, BUT this whole review is just me reviewing the version we all witnessed back when ESCZ hit. The one and only.
So the NF’s here because we saw Mikolas succeed from it the last time (eventhough it’s just a secret internal selection for just the Mikolas’s song and there’s no no denying hihihi), right? And thanks to that we got pseudo-official-but-not-so-official hotel music videos of each contestant’s songs just in case they decide to... like... change it for something different. Like those lyric videos last year. Eventhough they looked so very lowbudget this year, I still liked them to some degree, and eventually I had to witness this one video (set in presumably mostly the living room) where the lead singer confettis all over himself win this year (well not really the video as much as I only got to first hear that song on ESCRadio hahaha). Well, just the lead singer of it. As the buddies were on the other official video (the one I’ll talk about in my revamps update I guess but has anything changed other than the singer singing one of his talking parts?). As a whole the Czech entrants this year are known as Lake Malawi (it exists) and “Friend of a Friend” is their A-game! Let’s listen!
I liked it ever since my first acknowledgence(??) of it through ESCRadio. It reminded me of those happy-clappy 80s synth sounds (eventhough the 80s songs were mostly about gloom and doom), somehow somewhat mixed in with a bit of that ‘modern’ synthpop sound from the British music scene (Years & Years maybe? Nah that’d be too far-fetched). The lyrics, while cheap enough, at least paint a bit of a picture? I don’t think the person in the song was “making love” to his ‘old’ neighbouress back when she was 13, anyway. She’s, afterall, the “friend of a friend”. Who is a friend of a friend. Who is a friend of a friend. Who is a friend of a friend’s COUSIN~
The thing is that some songs out here are enjoyable besides their lyrical content. Or even without the singer’s background (still looking at those who’re shading Sheppard’s family business - shut up and enjoy “Geronimo” in peace, geez!). I, for example, jammed to RiRi’s “S&M” for my lifetime - yes, even since when it got big, and the pop music was being made to sound trashy, and not like something that sounds too somber and ‘foggy’, and with lyrics from r/im14andthisisdeep, and then later slapped on those a e s t h e t i c moodboards with tulips and liquid (of colour blue/red) splashed onto them to make it loof more effective, and placed in front of a yellow background on a white table. I miss late 2000s-early 2010s pop a whole lot, because at least it had fathomable-to-the-ear hits of the time - cheap, fast food, techno melodies with overproduction and lyrics that actually mean something more intimate and grotesque (with sometimes even hinting to the love surface) - that was the shit. Now it’s just drowsy stuff with blurry melodies and lamentings of lost love and devotion in an equally slurry, pathetic, vocal whine. I’m so tired of it. It’s unsettling. Get it off me. And thankfully, none of that invades this small little bubble of Eurovision’s just as of now (unlike the other pathetic musical cliche of nowadays that’s Soundcloud rap - ‘thanks’ a lot USNK). And I guess I shouldn’t be blessed that Lake Malawi brings this “this bangs but the lyrics are... a choice, but it still bangs so idc” back onto Eurovision? Like, come on, we all have had such kinds of songs like those all of that time. From “I Can’t Go On” (a man being a slut for love???) to countless of national final shlocks made by these usual suspects from rent-a-songwriter corner, ESPECIALLY in the 00s, to some of those actual 00s entries that made it - so stupid to sing along to, yet so infectious you can’t drag your earworm out of your ear canals just now. What does “Friend of a Friend” have for itself? Keyboard melody in the 2nd half of the chorus that is easily stuck in MY head, with a female voice (I assume it’s the song’s protagonist’s subject of speech - the neighbourina herself) reassuring that “[she’s] only [his] friend” - not in a “haha I’m friendzoning you forever >:)” way, but “ehhhh there’s truly nothing between us as he says, we’re just friends, not lovers, don’t give me that look” way. Sure it’s believable, sure. It might as well turn out that these neighbours are indeed doing the same thing as in all those local anecdotes where a family’s mother or father has an affair with a next-door neighbour for shits and giggles to move the joke’s plot forward.
So it is, as a whole, a fun little throwback-ish piece of fine and smooth music, accompanied with the lead singer’s ‘British’ ‘accent’ (aha so this is why I get a lot of British radio vibes from this - not to mention, tropical beach ones too for some reason!), some sort of spoken dialogue, energy and the ability to raise you up from your seat the 45875th time you’re actually giving in to all of this. You know you want to, despite this song possibly not being your cup of tea. But I see you, and I look forward to seeing you bopping to this fully in May, no matter if this isn’t Mikolas you’re dealing with anymore, and no camel spaghetti. Ahw yeah!
Approval factor: Although it’s also slowly wearing off me like it already wore off everyone else back then, I’m still giving it one hell of an approval. Yay!
Follow-up factor: I definitely like it more than “Lie to Me” as well. Somewhat. Honestly. Don’t bash me in secret.
Qualification factor: the naysayers are saying this will flop but imo they’re mostly just upset that Barbora didn’t go (even if they were only still upset back in the say), STILL. Ugh can’t they just leave. I am positive about this song’s chances somewhat, just hoping it gets a really memorable and stand out staging and maybe it will escape this hellhole of its semi. Not very confident, just positive. (Also they rocked the Vidbir stage so hard even the uncomfortable question queen Dramala couldn’t not give in the dance, lolz.)
NATIONAL FINAL BONUS
Honestly, the best possible thing that came out of this NF was the oh-so-unexpectedly-expected winner choice, and it is like this because, yet again, people couldn’t get over Barbora losing at first, to which I’m like “to be quite honest, you were all into it because that’s the closest thing to Lana del Rey you’d ever get in Eurovision because Lana herself is American and America should NOT set their foot into ESC... besides, she wouldn’t probably do it anyways”. ESCZ wasn’t pretty bad of a NF honestly:
• people actually laughed at the fact every single video of this NF is so low-budget that it looked like it was all filmed in the same hotel room! (in reality I’m just jealous at the slick-ass hotels they’ve had on there, feels like someone’s house more than a hotel actually)
• Pam Rabbit, one of Mikolas’s last year’s backings, brought the second-best NF song this year imo (Barbora for me is likeable but not to THAT degree, lol calm yer tits), as it was a lowkey bop and I can’t not appreciate one!
youtube
(her officially official MV is here but in the spirit of this NF’s, you’re gonna have to subject yourself to this above in order to witness spectacular budget-MVs that happened for this NF especially, come on. Hardly a cool NF without its own little perks!)
• Fine, I’ll bring up Barbora Mochowa too. I gotta say she DOES sound like Queen Bee Lana, same to say on her earlier works which, among them, has one enchanting and haunting forest-like ballad. “True Colors”, her ESCZ entry, is just a pop ballad, which is not THAT bad, it’s just that... did y’all see any more in that song beyond the Lana vocals? Sure sure the melody is pleasant but... did ya?
youtube
(Lord alive, she also has a live video for this song on her channel, which is in fact the ESCZ’s unplugged version video!)
• The ex-ESC entrant jury is back for another year! This time though, the votes of all of the participants in it were all up and public (unlike secrety mcsecret ones from 2018 where I’m not even sure if the Eurojury panel was correct), and most of them were #TeamMalawi or #TeamBarbora... up until AWS (yes AWS are relevant enough for their own panel!), being the “wait do we still have to do Eurovision related things??? it’s sooooo 1 year ago already, let us go goddammit!!” type of participants that they are, totally and utterly half-arsing their own experience in there by 12ing Andrea Holá. The thing is that she’s first alphabetically from the artists so that’s probably the best possible theory why. “GIVE ME A HINT, ANDREA!!!”
youtube
• The best part? The NF itself taking place in the second floor of an abandoned warehouse somewhere in Czech Republic (Czechia go to hell), in the middle of the day, with no live performances, just that video above played in full motion and some random people speaking in between. Silly of them to leak my ideal NF design location if I ever were a Lithuanian HoD. And yes, it was streamed on Facebook, the platform that I can barely play livestreams on my 11-year-old laptop on, while suspiciously enough, it worked for FiK 56... which meant that I was barely able to grasp a screenshot but I managed!
Well of course I didn’t get to watch much but after someone said Lake Malawi (or, in their words, Lake Malala <333) won, I almost believed it until I found out that the show’s still going... and only saw the thing on the projection screen later out of nowhere. IDK who’s hugging who and if that audience on the right are all the participants then I may have an idea but for now IDK. Ahh, relevant video media being projected on projection screens (duh) <33 giving San Marino, Albania’s Powerpoint scoreboards and Belgian 2013 radio NF runs for their money.
I might find mistakes and off-the-wall blabbers in this write-up later but for now I’ll carelessly submit this beauty to Tumblr today and wish the best of luck to Lake Malawi in Tel Aviv! May you qualify for the 2nd year in a row for CZ ^^

Quote
Well its a sad but true compared with some young stars like Drew Barrymore or Christina Slater, think i did a better job. If your first movie is a hit int the box office you suddenly receive so much attention you can never leam to deal with. So how does River reckon hes different from Christian or Drew after all his movies have been hits? its doesnt matter if the films a big hit or not young actors and actresses would be better to try to build up a serious career and learn to deal with it before they settle down to enjoy real fame. Hollywood istn really happy with actors who can already make a living with their job then choose a part in a lowbudget movie but in my eyes thats the right recipe and im proud of that film Mopi. This way i can build up an impressive career i can be proud of at least a little bit. i was really looking forward to such an exciting kind of part especially after mopi, despite the facet that Idaho is my favourite movie until now, it was also the most difficult one from an emotional point of view.

Australian movies are often so much more real, brutal... startlingly hardcore to the core.. This movie seems the same. For as much lavish praise that the film is getting, it is also receiving this:
Critics have been quick to praise the fact that the violence in Killing Ground(although brutal) is never exploitative, something Power attributes to his time as a censor. “I’ve definitely had a long professional interest in how we watch violence. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just a violent film but a film about violence and what violence does.”
Power feels movie violence is often — wrongly — presented as a heroic option.
“I wanted the film to ask the question ‘What would happen in real life? What would actually happen if I was faced with this threat?’ Because the answer is often different to what happens in the movies. This violence feels very real and I think that’s what people are responding to.”
I think back to one of the most famous Aussie films in my life: FORTRESS. As a kid, and to this day, that movie scared the wits out of me more than anything made in America.
This new movie seems like to could be the same:
What sets Killing Ground apart from other thrillers is its unconventional structure. The film intertwines three separate stories, seemingly in different times and spaces: Two lovers on a weekend getaway; a family in peril and a pair of redneck psychopaths baying for blood.

Equinox (1970)
I rented Equinox last week from Eyesore and it has the debut acting role of Frank Bonner aka Herb from WkRP who passed away today. Guess i better watch it now so I can return it. I start the movie and less than 5 minutes in they play a tape in the film and a voice says its June 18.. holy shit it really is June 18th..what the hell is going on. This dvd is one of the rare schlock films that Criterion released. A very lowbudget 70s monster movie with Land of the lost style make up and great stop motion. Feeling like 1960 more than 1970. Filmed in Bronson Canyon just like Robot Monster and Batman 68. While the movie feeling like Manos hands of fate meets Planet of the Dinosaurs it had specific imagery of four young people drive into the wood, a haunted book, demons, reading the work of a missing scientist and a reel to reel that make it obvious inspiration for Evil Dead. There is a definite argument that Frank Bonners character is the inspiration to the original Ash. Frank Bonner also seems to be the only one acting as the rest of the cast is near catatonic. Thank goodness for the epic soundtrack or I'd he no idea what emotions are being portrayed. History states Equinox inspired Evil Dead but keep in mind it probably even more inspired Winterbeast. It's a trippy hoot . Right down to the Kentucky fried chicken product placement which makes it feel like it exists in the Al Adamson universe. Forrest J Ackerman has a intro for this that will set the mood nicely and all the more feels like it exists in the same world as Al Adamsons Dracula vs Frankenstein. Wow I've watched too many schlocky movies to make all these references.
