Big Spoon, Little Spoon
Summary: No one in the guild would normally clock Lucy as the affectionate one, but Natsu has since long known the truth. Notes: (At the end bc I'm going on a LONG grateful rant and you can't stop me) Ao3 - FF.net
***
With Natsu Dragneel, physical contact was inevitable. The fire wizard craved other people’s presence like a magnet - when he fought his fists spoke for this craving, and when he didn’t fight he had two people who could satisfy his needs. The first one was Happy of course. They hung around 24/7, either by Natsu carrying him around in his arms, or by Happy sitting on his head or his shoulders. Then Lucy entered the picture - the weird, kind of spoiled girl who sought adventure despite being new to the big wizarding world. When Natsu met her he didn’t know if they would click - she was a complete chatterbox, and a clueless one at that, since she talked for almost an hour about how great the Fairy Tail guild was - and she wasn’t even aware that she was having lunch with one of their wizards! Well, at least he knew she cared for his guild, so when he accidentally met her on that party boat a few hours later, he knew there was no need to doubt his decision of inviting her to join Fairy Tail. She would fit in just fine with her weirdness.
Natsu found that he enjoyed being around her a lot more than the other people in the guild. He despised hanging out with Gray, Erza gave him chills and Elfman was all brawn, no brain, which was fine except he couldn’t joke around with him. He could honestly go on - Loke was annoying and smelled weird, Cana had more alcohol than blood in her body, Levy was boring with her books and righteous ways, and besides, she had Jet and Droy around her all the time, and those guys were wimps. He loved them all more than anything, but he couldn’t hang out with them the way he did with Happy, and had done with Lisanna back in the day. Lucy became a breath of fresh air compared to everyone else. She was inexperienced and odd, but she joked around with him in a way that he really had missed. That, and her reactions to his pranks were actually hilarious.
It wouldn’t be a big surprise if Lucy had decided to leave Natsu after joining Fairy Tail, to hang out with other people. After all, even Natsu knew he could be a handful to deal with. But in the end she stayed with him. He learned fascinating things about her - how her spirits worked, that she never broke promises (convenient for his first job actually, but an admiring trait to have even without considering his own benefits), that she was smarter than her looks let on and that she had a happy spirit. What he hadn’t expected to learn was how much she loved physical contact. Natsu knew he expressed love through meaningful touches, but Lucy had never been the one to initiate any of it – at least not if she was facing him.
The first time she had done it, he almost jumped in surprise. They hadn’t known each other for more than a couple of months, but Natsu had managed to find an unparalleled satisfaction under Lucy’s covers. He had slipped into her bed, not for the first time, and definitely not for the last, when she hugged him from behind. Her breathing hadn’t changed: she hadn’t woken up. Still, she must have noticed Natsu’s familiar heat, because she approached him like she’d been expecting him. Natsu didn’t know how to act. It was like his muscles had been switched out with concrete: he had tensed up and wouldn’t move a single millimetre, like the slightest movement would scare her away.
It was only when he realised he’d been holding his breath that he allowed himself to move. A shaky puff out, and then a shakier breath in. But despite Lucy’s arms feeling his movement from being wrapped around him, she didn’t budge. If anything she’d nuzzled closer, pressing her cheek against his neck, wrapping her legs around his as she molded herself to his stale figure.
He hadn’t slept very well that night. He considered it weird after all, that the girl who spent so much time denying all signs of enjoyment connected to physical affection, would be the one to initiate a cuddling session like that. He supposed that was around the same time he really leaned into her nickname: “Weirdo”. It was oddly accurate, it turned out.
Time didn’t fix this conundrum: in fact, it made it worse. Or, intense, was a better descriptor. Natsu still refused to cease his night time activities in her bed though. It almost became a game, a silent, unconscious sparring match, where they fought over the right to be the big spoon. Natsu usually won at dawn, but as soon as the sun started to rise and Natsu flickered awake for a split second, he found himself held by the blonde. Fondly she’d cuddle closer as Natsu stirred, seemingly not aware at all of her actions.
However, every morning he’d wake up a little bit colder. Lucy would be awake already, humming to herself in the shower or cooking breakfast, or she’d sleep in with her back turned. Natsu suspected she knew how the two of them slept at night – there was no other explanation as to why he never woke up in her embrace.
What he didn’t know was how right he was. Lucy was insanely aware of her bad sleeping habits, more than once drenching herself with cold water in the shower to get rid of her blushing. She could do many embarrassing things, but something like this? It felt vulnerable to show that side of her. It alluded to her not-so-pleasant past, which wasn’t something she was quite comfortable showing yet. After all, Natsu didn’t even know her last name yet: none of the guildmates did, her past was something she’d left behind.
As time went on, truths revealed themselves, and secrets spilled, Lucy realised that she didn’t need to feel ashamed of this need for physical contact. Natsu had never seemed to mind after all, repeatedly showing up, night after night, to roll around in the sheets with her. She would never allow herself to show this side to anyone other than him or Happy: not even Erza could know this secret, and she was her best friend. No, what happened at night was between her and her boys. Natsu had never slipped up about their activities either, so she let it stay uncovered as long as it needed to. Lucy clinging on to Natsu like a lifeline, as dreams shook her around, just didn’t need to be brought up in a day to day situation.
Natsu didn’t know Lucy’s view on their sleeping habits. He only knew that time was in his favour when it came to this thing: the longer they’d known each other, and with more frequent sleepovers, Lucy seemed to gain courage in her awake affection as well as her unconscious one. Now she didn’t avoid him when Natsu brought his arm around her, nor did she shy away from coming up from behind with a back-hug-sneak-attack. She’d even stand beside him at the bar, mindlessly take his hand and start fidgeting with its rough crevices, removing dirt from under his fingernails and even going as far as rubbing in hand cream, like it was her own hand.
He liked this side of her. It felt like she allowed herself to claim him as hers, as much as he enjoyed claiming her as his. Every time she approached him, he felt validated: like their friendship was just as important to her as it was to him. Naturally he’d feel like that anyways, he knew how much she appreciated him, but it was somehow different when it came to physical contact. Maybe that’s the way he understood affection best: getting his feelings reciprocated was truly unparalleled.
__________
Tonight Natsu’s feet once again took him to her apartment. Happy was flying a bit in front of him, practically asleep – they hadn’t planned to take so long, but before they knew it the sun had set, and Lucy was probably done waiting for them. Their initial plan was to meet up after dinner: normally they’d eat it together, but Lucy had been coerced by Erza to have a “practice dinner” before a special day that she wouldn’t give them any details on. It wasn’t like details were needed though: Erza being sneaky only ever meant one thing – even Natsu knew that much.
So it was fair to say he was tired when he reached the pink brick building. Gazing up to the second floor, he envied Happy who could just fly up with ease. Still, sleeping with Lucy had never been a question of if he should, but when. He carefully stretched his neck, slapping his cheeks twice, before climbing up. The route was etched into his brain like second nature: he knew exactly which brick to grab or step on, and he knew which ones to avoid if it had been raining. Luckily, Lucy’s window was always left cracked open, making it possible for him to slide up the bottom panel and worm himself in.
The landing that had once been clumsy, waking Lucy up by landing straight onto her, was now a lot smoother. Not only did practice make Natsu more agile, but Lucy had also made it a habit to sleep closer to the window, making Natsu land beside her instead of on her. Happy had already curled up to a ball by Lucy’s feet. He’d eventually make his way up to sleep closer to his friends’ heads, but from years of experience he knew that it would take a while for them to settle down.
As Natsu quickly undressed by the edge of her bed, leaving his day clothes haphazardly on the floor, Lucy stirred under the duvet. Natsu longed to join her in her nest of pillows and soft, clean blankets, but first he reluctantly made his way to the bathroom.
He winced at the loud clicks the bathroom door made when he closed it, not sure if it was his worry of waking Lucy or his own hearing that was most bothered. Either way he hurried to do his business. After flushing and washing his hands in much too cold water, he took a quick second to look in the mirror.
Looking back was a pretty grown up man, looking like he’d forgotten to shave one day too many. Underneath the stubble were scars – some prominent, ones that he’d gotten long before Wendy joined Fairy Tail, and others less obvious, only faint shadows remaining. Not even her magic could make the skin look completely like new again, but he was thankful that it helped as much as it did. Some of these scars were less pleasant memories, like the one on his cheek that he associated with Zeref.
His shoulders had gotten quite big over the years. When he’d first met Lucy, he considered himself scrawny. With time and with experience they’d grown stronger, and he found himself thinking that he resembled Gildarts more and more. He shivered. He really needed to shave in the morning, or he’d end up looking exactly like that old fart. With his shoulders slumped over the sink he ruffled around his hair with some water, rubbing away the tensions of the day from the scalp. It was about time he cut that hair again. A mental note to ask Lucy to bring out Cancer was put in the back of his head.
Quickly he grabbed his toothbrush from the shared toothbrush cup and generously smeared on toothpaste. He was about to brush with his normal force, but stopped himself as he heard Lucy’s voice echo in his brain.
“You’re gonna give yourself receding gums if you keep that up!”
He let out a sigh before lightening his grip. She really nagged him about the smallest things. It was either how he brushed his teeth, or how he procrastinated doing the dishes, or she’d complain over a rag or two missing the laundry basket when he and Happy tried to get them in from across the living room.
But he didn’t dislike those complaints. In fact, he was actually a bit fond of them. It was yet another reminder that Lucy considered Natsu and Happy family members in her home: she worried and complained, but she never threw them out anymore. She had been the one to give Natsu a permanent toothbrush in her bathroom, and she’d been the one who hung up three hand towels instead of one, all under their respective names. She was the one who cooked most of their food, and she gladly made some space in her wardrobe to fit in some clothes for Natsu, so he wouldn’t have to wear the same dirty outfit each day.
Reflecting on it made him smile, resulting in spilling out some toothpaste and drool on his chest. He grabbed the towel that hung under his nameplate and dried himself. Yeah, she was probably wise to assign separate hand towels to the three of them: he had to give her credit for that.
Finally finished in the bathroom he hurried over back to where Lucy was laying, curled up, lightly snoring. Had anyone else been making that sound he’d probably want to punch their heads in, but when Lucy did it? Natsu melted in the delightful ambiance.
As soon as he crawled in under the covers, Lucy seemed to stir awake. Mission unsuccessful, but at least he got a chance to talk to her.
“You’re late,” she mumbled, voice raspy from just waking up.
“We lost track of time. Sorry.” Natsu whispered, shamelessly placing his head on her pillow.
“It’s okay… Erza held me back too.” She rubbed her eyes from sleepy crust before taking a good look at Natsu. “Your hair’s getting long.”
She brought her hand to his head, combing it from his temples and back. Natsu shivered at the sensation of nails running against his scalp.
“Yeah, I was thinking of having Cancer cut it in the morning.”
“You should try growing it out again. You look good with longer hair.”
He almost blushed as a smirk entered his lips. She could be uncharacteristically bold at night.
“Look good, huh?”
She lightly flicked his forehead before returning to combing through his hair.
“Don’t get cocky.”
Natsu felt a snicker bubble up his throat.
“Wait, I’m sorry, I’m seriously considering it here,” he defended himself. Lucy softened her grip on his hair.
“Good.” Her teasing expression had once again turned soft.
For a couple of minutes they let the silence settle. Natsu grabbed Lucy into his embrace by pulling her in by her waist, allowing Lucy to continue playing with his hair. He felt like he was living in bliss, breathing her air, feeling her light fingertips tuck hair behind his ear with a softness that resembled sunbeams kissing his skin a warm early spring. What the two of them had during the night, in between chaotic missions and stressful adventures, was something completely otherworldly.
“Hey, Natsu.”
Her soft whisper breathed life in the tranquil atmosphere.
“Yeah?”
His eyes fluttered open, meeting hers. She seemed to be thinking fondly about something, her pupils big and eyelids molding as her mouth formed a relaxed smile. Just seeing her made the corners of Natsu’s mouth pull upwards.
“Can you turn around?”
Suddenly her voice had gone from pleasantly sweet to sickly sweet, as Natsu realised what she was asking of him. He felt his expression go from calm to troubled.
“No…” he tried, whining a little to see if she could possibly be the small spoon tonight.
“Please…” Her big doe eyes sparkled at him. This wasn’t fair. How dare she use those gorgeous brown eyes against him. He tried to hold his ground, holding her firmer by the waist so she wouldn’t flip him over when he least expected. It wouldn’t be the first time, after all.
“I…” He quickly shut his eyes and turned his face away. “No, not today.”
“Come on…” She squirmed a little in his grip, trying to come up with something to coerce him. “What if…” her face grew rapidly red. “Well… how about we make a deal.”
Natsu perked up again, curious about what she was offering.
“Okay… What’s in it for me?” He had turned back to face Lucy, but this time she’d been the one to avoid looking at him. Even in the dark he could see that she was blushing.
“I’ll… Give you a kiss,” she finally said, carefully looking back at Natsu to see if she could read his reaction. It was… smaller than she’d expected.
Truth was, Natsu wasn’t sure if he’d heard her right. Had she really said kiss? Even he was aware of the implications of that: She was asking for permission for them to become something more.
“A kiss? On the lips?” He asked, trying to clarify. It would be terribly embarrassing if he’d misinterpreted her.
“W-well we don’t have to if you don’t want to! I’ll come up with something els-”
“Ten.” Natsu interrupted her.
“Ten?”
“Ten kisses. In exchange for being the little spoon,” he explained, making an ugly face while describing what he was offering. Lucy frowned.
“It can’t be the equivalent of ten kisses,” she tried to argue, but Natsu stood firm in his offer.
“I think it’s reasonable. I can start by giving you the first, but you gotta give the rest.” By now he felt sort of determined, like he had to get those kisses no matter what. She couldn’t exactly go back on her word: she was the one that had offered the kiss in the first place.
“W-wait, Natsu!” She squealed a little as he grabbed her face in both of his hands, squishing her cheeks together until she looked like a fish.
“Ya’ ready?”
Before he could lean in she shook out of his grip.
“Stop! Fine! I’ll do it! Just, give me a moment to brace myself…” Lucy demanded, now changing her position from lying down beside him to sitting up, legs in a criss cross. Natsu mimicked her position to make things easier for her. Though, truth be told: he was getting a little impatient. As soon as she had offered a kiss to compromise his usual sleeping position, he’d started craving those lips against his. They always looked so soft, so supple, like they’d break if they were sucked too hard.
When Lucy finally composed herself, she looked at him with fierce determination in her eyes. She scooted a little closer, making their knees touch. It still didn’t feel like they were close enough. A distance that was so easily closed normally, now felt like miles. First she grabbed his arms, firmly. Not quite satisfied with the feeling of that, she tried placing them on his shoulders.
Problem was: no matter where she placed her hands, it didn’t feel like Natsu was getting any closer. He was always an arm length away. This frustrated her.
“Could you…” she tried to find the right words, “help me? A little?”
“Yeah, of course, sure, what do you… want me to do?”
Yet again there was a shift in atmosphere. Flailing arms and nervous chuckles made him realise that this was happening. He was going to kiss Lucy. Or more accurately: she was going to kiss him. Part of him wanted to just screw any rules about technicality, grab her and kiss her until twilight. Another part of him knew that nothing would compare to what Lucy was setting him up for right now. He really, really wanted to find out what she had in store: what kind of kisses she’d give, if she preferred leaning to the left or to the right to avoid their noses crashing, and how it would feel to be kissed, instead of the kisser.
“Would you just…” Lucy was still caught up in how they were going to sit and do this. “Maybe we should stand-”
“No.”
“Yeah no. If you lean forward a bit? Maybe?”
Natsu toppled his torso forward, closing in the space a bit. It didn’t seem like Lucy was satisfied though, even if their noses were close enough to touch.
“No, my back hurts like this.” She changed her sitting position a couple of times, moving around so much that Happy was starting to stir awake. Natsu had enough.
“Shh,” he whispered, nodding slightly towards the sleeping exceed. His expression was probably hard to read – he didn’t quite understand his emotions himself, but it was a confusing mixture of impatience, eagerness, and something deeper that had been tinting the entire evening. Could it be what people called love?
He pulled roughly on her arm until she sat in a straddle over his groin. She better not sit down here, he managed to realise, which luckily for him, she didn’t. Instead she blushed from the crown of her head, all the way down to her shoulders. It seemed like reality was starting to hit her too. Except this time, she didn’t back down. Her back wasn’t hurting, she wouldn’t have to do any weird maneuvers to get both her lips to meet his.
She straightened herself up, trying to ignore the burning feeling of Natsu’s hands against the dip of her waist, and combed back his hair from right above his ears and back to his neck, mirroring what she’d done earlier this night. As her hands met at the crook of his neck, she carefully braided her fingers together, leaving her thumbs right behind his ears. Getting a good look at him, he’d really grown up to become handsome. The boy she’d met in Hargeon such a long time ago was only a fraction of the man in front of her. His jaw was more chiseled, his eyes had matured, they reflected a certain light of wiseness that they hadn’t before. His chapped lips had gotten framed with slight smile lines – she liked to think she was the cause of their early appearance: he always seemed to smile around her after all. His chin had grown a stubbly, dark pink beard, and she almost wanted to giggle at the thought of him growing it out one day. A pink beard: could you imagine?
But the truth was: she was so in love. She still felt like the night was surreal, the dimmed light from the moon being the only lightsource in the room. Just a couple of hours ago they had been joking around like today was any other day, no clue that she’d be sitting here, straddling him, on her merry way to kiss him. And not just once.
Finally she pressed her lips against his. It was a soft, dry, fluttery peck that only left both of them wanting more.
“One,” she whispered as she pulled them apart for a split second. She only briefly met Natsu’s dark eyes as he looked up at her from under his eyelashes. He was quick to pull them together again, this time harder, with an urgency that he couldn’t quite explain. Her lips were so soft, even softer than they’d looked, and as they took half a second to breathe, he found himself wanting to taste them. So he did.
Lucy had just opened her mouth to jokingly say “two” when her teeth clacked against Natsu’s. Was that his tongue? The new sensation gave her goosebumps, in a very… good… way. Natsu slowly dragged his tongue against Lucy’s bottom lip, taking in everything that she tasted. It was warm, no, hot, and the taste itself was neither sweet, sour or salty, but rather a weird mix of everything and also… Nothing? The most he could identify was the faint taste of the toothpaste they used.
When Natsu’s tongue suddenly felt Lucy’s against it, it felt like he’d been shot by lightning, the shock creeping along his spine, raising every hair on his head. It was… amazing. A little messy, drool finding its way down both of their chins, but it was hot, sweaty and completely delightful. He felt himself grabbing her pillowy hips, pulling them closer to his own groin, before realising what he was doing and stopped himself in his tracks. Things didn’t need to go this fast: today he wanted to revel in the fact that he was kissing the most beautiful woman in the whole world.
Instead he gently lowered Lucy down on her pillow, making it so he could be on top. As a hair got stuck in their mouths, he gently pulled apart, a string of drool embarrassingly acting as proof that they’d just been connected. Her golden hair almost silvery in the faint moonlight, he realised she looked angelic. Her light eyelashes carefully fluttered as she opened her eyes, a small giggle escaping her mouth. It sounded like heaven.
“I’m counting that as number two and three.”
“What? Why!?”
He squinted at her. Was she trying to cheat him? To be honest, with her sweet expression, flushed cheeks and glittering doe eyes, he was about to let her.
“It was longer. And with tongue. And your beard scratched my chin.”
Natsu groaned.
“I knew I should have shaved…” he muttered under his breath before diving in for round four. Once again it started perfectly innocently, Lucy’s hands cupping Natsu’s cheeks as their, now warmed up lips molded against each other again. This time Natsu was quicker to ask for VIP-entrance though, running his tongue over her mouth once again in hopes that he’d get the chance to spar with it. When she played a little bit too hard to please, he repositioned himself over her, one leg between hers, letting his body weigh down slightly where their cores met. Seemingly it was a good move, because with a gasp he was allowed entrance.
Lucy thought that he played a little dirty, in more than one way. Did he even know the effects he had on her? That every time he touched her, she came undone? She teasingly sucked on his upper lip to punish him a little, not knowing it only edged him on. With his hands running across her torso, drawing little circles where her skin had gotten exposed, he deepened the kiss even further, their tongues now sparring like there was a prize to win. Lucy kept up with it for five whole minutes before she suddenly pushed them apart, swallowing hard.
“That’s four, five, six,” she panted, her hands keeping some distance between the two of them. His chiseled chest felt nice… No, focus.
“What?! No way, what did I do this time?”
“You drooled in my mouth!” Lucy had to whisper-shout it, as she remembered that they certainly weren’t alone in this bed.
“Ew! Did not!” There was no way he’d done something disgusting like that: kissing was a drool-involved activity! There was no need for her to get her panties in a twist.
“Yeah, you did? Wanna switch places and see how it feels?”
“You’re on!”
Swiftly they swapped their positions, Lucy being the one on top this time. She carefully positioned herself right above his groin, not to wake any monsters she couldn’t tame, and leaned forward, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Your turn,” she taunted, leaning into her seductive side before finally giving him a slight peck on his already open mouth. “Oh, and that’s seven.”
“Cheater,” Natsu muttered before cupping her face and leading her on to their eighth kiss. This time he understood why Lucy had counted as she had: not only was the actual kissing more intense from below (and also containing more saliva, he admitted), but the general power play made it feel unfair. All he could do from his position was grab her hips, butt, waist and upper-middle back to hold her closer, or play with her hair and touch her neck, like she’d done to him before.
Lucy, however, had all the cards on her table, tracing his bare torso, feeling the curves and crooks of his abs, sometimes using her nails to her advantage, sending goosebumps throughout his entire body. He’d reward her with a gentle squeeze wherever his hands were, or he’d deepen the kiss, gently biting her lip or feel the back of her teeth with his tongue.
Rather than learning how taxing it was to be the drool-bucket, it seemed like Natsu was only enjoying this experience. She wanted to teach him a little lesson, so she pulled the two of them apart again, this time to quickly reposition her mouth on his neck, right below his scar. And then she kissed him, and licked him, and she sucked and bit, Natsu’s panting by her ear only encouraging her.
Then she slowly rose up, a sly grin on her face.
“The hickey counts as number ten.”
“Oh for fuck’s sake…” Natsu breathed, too impressed to actually complain.
“Now!” Lucy’s eyes sparkled in excitement as she left her straddle. “A deal is a deal: get into position.”
Natsu sighed deeply before complying, rolling over to the side so his broad back was facing Lucy.
“I don’t get how you enjoy this,” he said, feeling Lucy hug herself into her place, body tightly pressed against his, her face landing in the crook of his neck. The place he knew from experience was the best smelling place on Lucy’s entire body – oh, how he wanted to switch places with her.
“Same reason you do, silly.” She wrapped her arms around him, locking them together by tightly hugging his stomach. Instead of complaining, he accepted his role as the little spoon, grabbing her hands and bringing them up to his face. Ten, small kisses, he gave her, one on each finger.
“I think I can stand it if i get paid in kisses again,” he joked, not realising that Lucy would push herself up one last time, land a wet kiss on the corner of his mouth, before laying down again.
“One on the house.”

Happy felt his tail twitch in annoyance as he finally heard them settle down. Next time he’d tell them to wait until he’d fallen asleep at least.
__________ __________ __________
Oh wow, this year has flown by! I’ve started lots of WIPs and somehow only now had the energy to finish them (during exam season and all… Typical). There’s still a small surprise upcoming, so you haven’t yet seen the last of me this year lol.
I hope you’ll allow me to get a bit sentimental here in the notes…
This fic has been on the back burner since… 2023 I think… It’s inspired by Mitski and her song First Love/Late Spring, and back then I still didn’t know I’d get to see her perform live in Edinburgh. My trip there was my first solo flight, and soon after I went to Greece with just my friend. Then I started uni again! Pedagogy, which has been so much more fun than journalism was for me (it sucked out my creativity, hence why I didn’t post much earlier this year). In general this year’s been more good than bad, save perhaps when my beloved Mala passed in March, and when we thought my other baby, Findus, had an autoimmune disease. Findus turned out to be fine, that cuddly-bug will probably not leave in a very long time.
Oh but I’m getting off track. This fic is fic nr10 posted this year, and while looking over my history I’m realising that they’ve all been posted within 6 months… They’ve also been a lot more mixed genre-wise: I started with And Then They Were Two, an angsty fic written in memory of Mala. It was my first time portraying death: I didn’t know then it was just the start. Then I posted a fic where I tried making Natsu and Lucy fight (that was a tough one…), though at least it ended happily, lol. I also finished Nalu Week from 2023! Hike in Heels is one of my favourite fics up to date, I’m really happy with that one, and though I’m slightly less fond of Some of their own, I still enjoyed the fluff.
I also wrote my second more suggestive fic: I really hope my growth from Massage Misunderstanding to A Way Into Your Heart shows (though they’re not exactly comparable: one is a crack-fic after all). Unrequited Love was my first truly angsty fic. It was written with no solution in mind, during a time when I was experiencing my own unrequited love. It was very nice being able to use fic-writing as a creative outlet: and I also hope it somehow portrays how much of my own soul is poured into what I write. This is truly my passion.
Lastly I managed to pad my goriest, by far saddest, fic with a couple of fluffy ones: A homage to autumn (Home) and a gift to one of the greatest people I’ve met this year, Roxy.
I’m so insanely thankful to all of you who motivate me to continue to write! I seriously couldn’t have done this without all of you, I’m forever grateful. Writing is the one passion I’ve held on to since I could hold a pen: I’ll always treasure Ao3, ff.net and tumblr for being sites I’ve been able to rely on when it comes to meeting wonderful people, posting and reading fics.
So, for one of the last times in 2024: Thank you for reading my fic<3 See you all lots in 2025!

secretly headcannoning that in the beginning lisanna and lucy secretly disliked and envied eachother because of natsu. lisanna was upset about how, to her, it seemed like lucy had replaced her in every way. happy see’s her as a mother even though lisanna helped raise him, natsu is her best friend and spends every second with her and is secretly in love with her, and the three of them go on jobs just like the three of them used to do. she hated that because natsu now had lucy in his life he never bothered to rekindle the close relationship they had prior.
whereas lucy was jealous of lisanna because in lucys head natsu has never showed her any signs of being in love with her, however everyone in the guild also talks about how natsu so obviously used to have a crush on lisanna and how they raised happy together and how they used to play fake married couple together. not to mention she hated how everyone compared her to lisanna before she returned home.
so one day they both decide to pull eachother aside and tell eachother the truth, only to find they both felt the same and giggle about it before crying together and apologising and admitting their present, for lucy, and past, for lisanna, feelings of love for natsu. lisanna admits she doesnt actually mind not being as close with natsu anymore because she’s heard the stories from everyone about how much natsu has changed for the better since meeting lucy and she can finally see how happy she makes him. lucy admits she considered quitting team natsu because she never wanted lisanna to dislike her or feel like she could ever replace her and wanted lisanna to have her old spot back in their team. and over the hours they spend chatting, crying and apologising they end up learning things about eachother no one else knows and end up accidentally finding “sisters from another mister” ‘s in eachother and become the best of friends.
lisanna gossips to lucy about all the embarrassing stories she has against natsu when they were younger so she can use them against him when hes annoying her. and lucy goes to lisanna when shes struggling with her secret feelings for natsu and needs help navigating them.
anyway if u hate lisanna because of her past relationship with natsu i hate u, bye bye xxx

may i ask for some platonic lucy and juvia? or romantic whatever fits your fancy!
you know i'm gonna make it lesbian if i have the chance!
One of Lucy and Juvia's bonding activities is tutoring Lucy on how to cook. Lucy was surviving well enough to get by without help, but she doesn't have a chef's eye. Early on, when Juvia is still obsessed with Gray, she tries sabotaging a lot of Lucy's efforts...but Lucy turns out to be really intuitive and survives a lot of the lessons by getting resourceful.
This creative spark does not help her when learning to bake, however. Everything is very precise and Juvia doesn't have nearly as much success passing on her knowledge, so Lucy eventually has to pick up strict recipe reflexes from Levy instead.
Juvia's secret punk goth side clashes a lot with Lucy's pop princess enjoyer qualities. However, Lucy tends to appreciate it more when she looks at the state of pop music and all the chart obsession--thank heavens that aspect of the music industry didn't connect with Juvia's competitive streak. Juvia is surprisingly knowledgeable about music, genres, and subcultures, and is happy to talk to Lucy about them for hours.
Lucy is subject to the same embarrassing habit of Juvia's to make clothing for people she loves, that she knits herself. The difference between Lucy and Gray is that Lucy will actually wear them, because a) a girl gets cold sometimes and b) Juvia's actually really good at knitting and sometimes the stuff she makes is cute af.
Juvia tries not to over-idealize people anymore after getting over Gray. However, she does associate Lucy with stars and this ends up with a lot of affectionate nicknaming from her. Sun and star nicknames are particularly common.
Juvia and Lucy have performed Unison Raids before, to wildly different effects. Leo's version ended up hitting a bunch of baddies with rain that turned to falling stars, which was spectacular, but he took a long time to leave afterward due to being annoying about two pretty women summoning him.
Lucy is delighted by some of the sea facts Juvia knows and will actually take any opportunity she can to go to the aquarium with her, especially if there's moon jellies or stingrays she can pet.
Two girls go to the beach and you'd think the men there had never seen a woman before. It gets downright obnoxious, and if it gets bad enough, neither of them has qualms using their magic to force a clear zone. This beach is now the property of the aquatic lesbian community.
The two of them have a thing for lilies. Lucy gets Juvia a bouquet of water lilies for her birthday, and Juvia responds by getting a bouquet of stargazer lilies for Lucy's. Not only do their houses smell great, Happy very quickly learns not to damage them.
In fact, the two of them are pretty much nature lovers. They're very harmonious with plant and animal life, and between them and Lisanna, the zoological and botanical programs of Fiore are never without guests.

I have a question. What do you think would happen if somehow Edolas Fairytail ended up in Earthland?
I'm so glad you asked!
The Juvias do not get along. Earthland!Juvia thinks she's a love rival and Edo!Juvia thinks she's too emotional
Earthland!Juvia and Edo!Gray get along really well tho
Edo!Elfman thinks Earthland!Elfman is the coolest. He is his hero
Edo!Jet and Edo!Droy try really hard to toughen up their counterparts and fail miserably. (Earthlands start crying)
Surprisingly Edo!Levy and Earthland!Levy adore each other.
They do get into a fight about Lucy tho
Earthland!Gajeel is terrified of Edo!Levy. She is even scarier than his Levy. (the girls team up and roast him)
Lisanna gets absorbed by the Edolas Fairy Tail. She's with them every second they are in town. She missed her second family
Earthland Fairy Tail's magic blows their minds. They are in awe of every power they see
Edolas!FT is the most surprised by the sheer strength and destructiveness of Earthland!Natsu
Edo!Natsu is terrified of Earth!Natsu's fire
Speaking of Edo!Natsu, he gets bullied so hard by earthland Fairy Tail. It's affectionate, of course, but they just cant get over how cute he is
Edolas!Cana and Earth!Cana are absolutely horrified at the other. Edolas!Cana replaces Cana's liquor with tea and Earthland!Cana nearly kills her
The Miras love each other and gush over Lisanna for hours
They are all scared of Earthland!Erza. Apart from Edo!Lucy who tries to show that Scarlet isn't scary, but when she makes the comment Earthland!Fairy Tail freak out and assure her Erza is terrifying
Earthland!Laxus blows their minds. No one can give a straight answer on how their Laxus acted but he was not like this. Earth!Laxus tries not to be offended

miscellaneous fairy tail headcanons that I came up with while writing my ridiculously long fic pt. 1
♡ laxus has a sweet tooth that could rival erza's. he's a pastry kind of guy, though. every baker worth their salt knows who laxus dreyar is, and being visited by him is an honor. the old ladies of magnolia love him (he'll always be that sweet little boy in their minds) and they will ambush him to give him homemade sweets. laxus always, always takes them home. sometimes he shares with the thunder tribe, if he's feeling nice.
♡ lisanna and juvia are best friends. I don’t know how I got to this conclusion but they're the embodiment of the "someone will die." "of fun!" dynamic
♡ ultear can always tell what time it is, no matter what. she could be in a dark room for hours on end and come out asking "was there a reason you kept me in there for 5 hours 17 minutes and 38 seconds, jellal?"
♡ sting is a healer. sting is a healer!! because he's a light dragon slayer, his magic is better suited for purifications and breaking curses.
♡ asuka loves ice cream. I think this is the most prevalent headcanon in my entire fic.

How many kids would each of Natsu's girls would want to have? Juvia will probably try to have the most followed by Mira but who would be too shy to have more than one?
Let's calm down now, boys. It was hectic enough with someone asking how many kids Nagisa had. (人◕ω◕);; 26(+) is an awful lot for 9 wives. Natsu's got 15 wives, and I'm not gonna count the kids this time. I'm not. Fairy Tail lassies are made of sterner stuff, so bigger families are anticipated. Because these ladies have what we call pride.
... And love for Natsu. That too. (人◕ω◕);;;
But all the same. I will talk about each one as is the fair and proper thing to do. (人◕ω◕) Because let's be honest. Big 4 ships are getting a ton of love these days, and I've never - with the exception of appreciating Gajevy/GaLe on the rare occasion - cared for any of those mainstream ships. Nalu and Jerza may especially burn in the deepest bowels of hell.... I could go on for hours about what's wrong with Lucy and Jellal. (人◕ω◕) ... But I won't do it here. I won't. Not worth the writing space. (人◕ω◕)***
I'm not going in any particular order this time, though I'm saving my Fairy Tail Founders for last. (人◕ω◕) The other main thing you need to know is I will only confirm if they have one or more kids. I am not numbering them this time. That is how brawls get started, good sir/ma'am. We are keeping things civilized. (人◕ω◕)
Yukino... she's an interesting one. (人◕ω◕) You would think based off her personality that she would be satisfied with but one little bundle of joy. After all, when she's not kicking ass, she's a little goober. Everyone knows this. (人◕ω◕) Goobers aren't little horndogs. Surely.
... Except this goober is Sorano-chan's younger sister, and she indulged her neechan a little too much with the unprotected sex. (人◕ω◕) She doesn't have too many, just a few. But she certainly has more than one. And Yukino-chan is a good mother, she is. After the tragedy she and Sorano went through as kids, Yukino-chan is there for her children and is very supportive of them. She is even among the list of wives to call on for babysitting their kids; admittedly she's not at the top of the list because she has a history of being incapable of saying "no" when she really should, not feeling right about strongly disciplining kids. But this has only happened a few times, and so she is one of the responsible wives. Yukino just needs a bit more steel in her spine. Not much, just a sprinkle of it. (人◕ω◕)
Lisanna-chan is another of those, "Aw, she's a more subdued girl for Natsu!" ... When in reality, you should really pay more attention to who she's related to. (人◕ω◕) Unlike Yukino, however, there's a bit more of give-and-take between Lisanna and Mira. Neither side is a doormat, and there's been some tense "understandings" that have happened with this grudging acceptance that they're really doing this, really sharing Natsu. (人◕ω◕) Lisanna-chan is just... put out that she's missed her opportunity of keeping Natsu to herself. She never really lets the other wives forget that she was the childhood waifu who first envisioned marrying the pyro. Most of her fellow wives are chill with these reminders, but there are a... few... who do find it grating and will start brawling if Lisanna rubs it in too much. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;;
... That said, Lisanna has a healthy amount of kids birthed out of her love for Natsu. (人◕ω◕) Unfortunately not as many as Mira, but frankly, her neechan is more adept at bedtime bonding time with their shared Dragon Slayer. Mira is more durable, can keep up with Natsu, and frankly just has the drive to keep going past the average limits of families. (人◕ω◕) I won't put a number on Lisanna's kids, but she's got somewhere under 15. As I said, it's a respectable amount. More than a few, but not an ungodly amount. Lisanna-chan's libido is healthy~ (人◕ω◕)
And also, much like Yukino she's on the list of good eggs for wives to go to for babysitting their kids. (人◕ω◕) A little higher than Yukino on the list because she can say "no" more consistently, but let's be real. Lisanna is still a Fun Auntie, and isn't above encouraging mischief from time to time. (人◕ω◕) But never anything nefarious. Lisanna-chan has standards. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
Now, Cana-chan... She is a fascinating one. (人◕ω◕) You would think with her ability to drink any of the other wives under the table that she would have more "accidents" of unprotected sex, and thus have a whole brood of children under her belt. (人◕ω◕) ... But no. There are factors that have led Cana-chan to having just the one kid with Natsu and being done with that. And it's not that she can't be bothered with all the rambunctiousness, or that it's not healthy for pregnant women to be drinking.
... Though frankly, those came in rather clutch for hindsight. (人◕ω◕)
No. Cana's main reason for limiting herself to just the one kid is... She wants to be better than Gildarts. (人◕ω◕) She loves her daddy, but she sees the kind of guy he is. Always drinking, going wherever he pleases, it would be so easy to do the same and have a ton of children with Natsu. But she wants to be a better mama than that. She doesn't want to end up forgetting a few children and leaving them unloved or unattended. Cana-chan doesn't have the drive or energy that some of the other wives do; for her, one is plenty and keeps it simple.
Cana-chan is... not necessarily on that list of wives to go to for babysitting kids. (人◕ω◕);; She is on the reserve list, if there are no other options available. Cana-chan is known for her bouts of maturity. ... But those are just bouts. Cana loves drinking and having a good time. And she's so often lounging in the Guild so kids would be exposed to the constant brawls. ... Not that they wouldn't already as they're all Natsu's kids, but you understand, yes? It's not the most conducive environment. (人◕ω◕);;;;;; And Cana more than likely would encourage bad habits and allow far too much barring the stuff that would really hurt. Physically, emotionally, or otherwise. (人◕ω◕) They've been trying for years to "rehabilitate" Cana, but she's stuck in this cocktail of drunk x maturity. She's a weird one. But she's Cana-chan. (人◕ω◕)
Wendy-chan... (人◕ω◕) This is another one that comes as a surprise. See, in most cases Wendy is a cheerful, exuberant, peppy, supportive goober of a young lady. You would think Wendy-chan would limit herself to just the one kid and be happy. (人◕ω◕)
....... (人◕ω◕)
..................... (人◕ω◕)
........................................ (人◕ω◕)
Unfortunately, I have been exposed to Fairy Tail fanfiction far too long and have accepted that there is this concept called "Dragon Slayer Mating Season". (人◕ω◕) For Natsu, this phenomenon is overlooked because of the sheer amount of wives he's got and how horny he is on even the best of days. (人◕ω◕) However, Wendy-chan is a much needed wakeup call for everyone else. Because this mating season occurs every year, and lasts a good, healthy week. And in that week, Dragon Slayers become these very horny, very territorial creatures. Natsu has managed to subjugate Wendy over the years and make her accept even at her basest state that he has mates and Wendy can't just have Natsu for herself. ... Though as she's grown up, the mating season has certainly intensified and is like a bonus S-Class Trial for the other wives every year without exception. (人◕ω◕);;; It's, uh... It's not as bad as when they first found out about this ominous tradition, but you can be sure that every year a few weeks before the mating season hits, the other wives hold a sort of council meeting amongst themselves to prepare contingencies and just overall steel themselves. (人◕ω◕);;;;;; Wendy-chan is a healer, you understand, and when a healer goes mad with power for a week, you must always be prepared.
... Consequentially, Wendy-chan has a healthy amount of kids. (人◕ω◕) Probably less than 20... Honestly hard to say. The wives do what they can to mitigate the unprotected sex during this mating season period, but it's mighty difficult to prepare for every eventuality... Ehehe. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;;
But outside that one hellish week, Wendy is a wonderful mama. About the same level as Yukino... or between Yukino and Lisanna. She just needs to learn to say "no" and not let the kids walk all over her. (人◕ω◕);; At least she's definitely on the list for babysitting because of her skills as a nurse. Wendy-chan is a good waifu. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
Let's just get this out of the way now. Chelia and Wendy are two peas in a pod. (人◕ω◕) Doesn't matter that they're two different varieties of Slayers, Chelia has her own... mating period, too. Hers lasts a month. (人◕ω◕);;; But mercifully, she's not as, er... Not "feral", that's too mean. (人◕ω◕);;; She's more open to orgies than Wendy is during her mating season. Chelia just needs to mate. With Natsu. She doesn't mind sharing the L O V E~ \(人◕ω◕)/
... But yeah. Lasts a whole month. The other wives hafta brace for impact with this one, too. (人◕ω◕)
Like Wendy-chan, Chelia has a healthy amount of kids. Probably less than 25. Probably. (人◕ω◕) See, while Chelia is a goober like Wendy, she has more... confidence. She's definitely around the same level of Lisanna in mamahood, if not a little "above" Lisanna because she doesn't need constant negotiations with an older sister like Lisanna does. (人◕ω◕) Chelia can muster a little bit of sternness, and isn't afraid of disciplining kids... Because in the end, love is more than unconditional support; if you well and truly love someone, you have to steer them along the right paths. And this includes children, who are especially susceptible to naughty habits. (人◕ω◕) Chelia-chan is by no means perfect. But she's definitely high on that list of wives to go to for babysitting your kids. (人◕ω◕)
Brandish is more predictable... (人◕ω◕) She's mellow like Cana, just has more of a sweet tooth as opposed to nonstop drinking. There are few people that inspire her more cutesy side - Aquarius, Natsu (when they're alone), ... that's about it, actually. (人◕ω◕) Otherwise she's pretty stoic and deadpan most of the time. Let her relax, or have time with Natsu, and she won't bother you much at all~... And by "bother", I mean that she won't shrink or mess with your body for annoying her. (人◕ω◕)
Brandish has... a few kids. Only a few. See, whereas Cana has a more iron control, Brandi-chan does have a bit of a libido. It's rarer to see her pester Natsu about her "needs", but it does happen. (人◕ω◕) He gives very good massages~ Which often leads to bonking like monkeys. (人◕ω◕) ... But yeah, because it's rarer, and Brandi-chan doesn't have a drive for "moar", she's good with the few kids she has. (人◕ω◕)
As a mama, Brandi-chan is pretty chill. But she's not on "the list" for watching your kids because she allows way too much. (人◕ω◕) She's like last-last-last resort for babysitting. Brandish ensures the kids are loved, but she's all about letting kids experience life for themselves and learning what not to do on their own. (人◕ω◕) Very laissez-faire, this one~
Juvia-chan is... same tier as Chelia and Meredy-chan. (人◕ω◕) Healthy amount of kids, makes sure Natsu-sama is loved every day (not talking about sex here, not exclusively)... She's got a bit of a jealous streak and is very, very vocal about being everyone's rival for Natsu-sama's affection. (人◕ω◕) Juvia-chan is also the one-woman army for creating Natsu-sama merch... which she tries so hard to keep to herself, but in this economy? (人◕ω◕) ... Well, truthfully, the other wives pay her handsomely for her merch, which is why she allowed the poachers to take any of her Collection. But the other wives know that Juvia is holding out on them. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
... Anyway. Healthy amount of kids. And she's a pretty good mama. She's like Chelia in that she knows love is about boundaries and sometimes requires discipline. Like Chelia, she's high on the list of mama's to go to for babysitting. (人◕ω◕)
Meredy-chan is just like Juvia and Chelia. (人◕ω◕) ... In her chipper and loving personality, that is. Unfortunately, this is where we start hitting the wives that have... a lot of children with Natsu. (人◕ω◕);;; I can't put a number on this without getting into trouble. So I won't. (人◕ω◕) Just know that Meredy-chan has a libido that rivals even the mighty Sayla and Mirajane... My, my. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) And her Maguilty Sense helps remind her rival wives that pregnancy is.... a wonderful phenomenon. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) Only hurts a little bit. And Meredy-chan keeps. Getting. Preggo. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;;;;;
But I digress. Meredy-chan is a good mama. Same level as Juvia and Chelia. (人◕ω◕) She's a little bit less stern than them, though. Because she leaves that discipline stuff to Auntie Ultear. (人◕ω◕) It doesn't help that all of her and Natsu's kids have the patented pink hair. The other wives are very jealous. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
Kagura-chan has what a lot of the other wives seem to lack. (人◕ω◕) Discipline. Self-control. (人◕ω◕) Kagura-chan has only a few kids, and she has come to accept this. She approves Cana-chan limiting herself to just the one, and wishes her own conviction was just as strong. ... But alas, Kagura-chan can't help how cute her and Natsu-kun's children are. So a few it is. (人◕ω◕)
As far as mamahood goes, Kagura is... on the stricter end of the spectrum. (人◕ω◕);;;;;; She has gentle moments, and she's not abusive. But she's definitely near the top of wives to leave your kids with, because she doesn't bend easily to puppy dog eyes or cheap tricks. (人◕ω◕) Kagura-chan teaches kids the value of Order and Diligence (training). (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) Kagura-chan's a good mum. She's just a little bit tough on the parenting thing. (人◕ω◕)
Virgo, erm......... (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;;;;; We're scraping the barrel of "reasonable expectations" by now.... Virgo isn't even a human, so she's built differently. Let her pop off to the Spirit World for an hour, and she'll pop back with fully charged batteries. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
... Virgo-chan has a lot of babies with Natsu-sama. A loooooot~.... (人◕ω◕);;; And that is all I will say on the matter.
In terms of mamahood, Virgo is a good one. But she's on that last-last-last resort list because of all her horny BDSM antics and her insistence on serving the needs of her Masters, Natsu and his gaggle of wives and all their children. (人◕ω◕);;;;; She allows far too much. Even if she's a wonderful mama. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;
............... (人◕_◕)
(❋•‿❋);;;;;;;;; Sayla-chan is same tier as Virgo in libido. I mean, she's a literal demon, what more do you want me to say? Sure, she'll exhaust herself to the point of reverting to a book, but give her an hour and she'll be right back up. (❋•‿•❋);;;;;;;;;;;
... So yes. Sayla-chan has a ton of kids, too. And only half of them have horns like she does. (❋•‿•❋) We can call that progress. Probably. (❋•‿•❋)
Despite how troublesome she is as a woman, Sayla-chan is a surprisingly decent mum. (人◕ω◕) She's mature. A bit aloof, a bit of a mean streak, a bit mischievous on her worst days... But she's dutiful because Natsu-sama is her Master. (人◕ω◕) And that means watching over their kids~... She's high on the list if you want someone to watch over your children. ... There's just a note of caution because Sayla is a demon, so leave it up to your discretion if you trust her or not. (人◕ω◕)
Sorano-chan...... Now that we're hitting the Founders, I must stress we're entering the realm of the goddesses. (人◕ω◕) Every one of these ladies from hereon has..... copious amounts of kids. It's not just all the raw sex that they believe is the true, ideal way to savor Natsu, These four well and truly love Natsu Dragneel, flaws and all. (人◕ω◕)
Sorano-chan is....a fascinating mum. (人◕ω◕) You would think that she would be all fun, no control. But Sorano's style of parenting is to work and train hard so they can all have fun later. (人◕ω◕) She IS known to allow too much, which puts her on the naughty list of wives. Yet she has a curious amount of respect from the other wives because of her admittedly structured and mature way of parenting. (人◕ω◕) ... She just has a problem of partying too hard. That's her main critique, aside from the very obvious lack of clothes she doesn't wear on a regular basis. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;; Thankfully her children haven't picked up on Mama's "a bikini counts as everyday clothes" routine. (人◕ω◕);;;
The other wives can absolutely live without Sorano rubbing it in that she's not ALL bad as a Mama. It tends to step on every last nerve when Sorano-chan gets.....braggy.... (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;
Ultear-chan.... Hoo, boy. What a woman. (人◕ω◕);;;;;; So don't spread it around too much, but Ultear has the distinguished honor of having taken Natsu's virginity. (人◕ω◕);;;;;; Believe me, she had stiff competition. But somehow Ultear snagged this high honor. ... And Erza are Mira have NEVER forgiven Ultear for this slight ever. (人◕ω◕);;;;; It, uh.... It gets a bit tense whenever Ultear reminisces on that little achievement. That's another way brawls get started. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;
Ultear has copious amounts of children. (人◕ω◕) She and Natsu have it down to an art form. Natsu openly admires her body, and that's something else Ultear tends to hold over the rest of the wives. Natsu's so often surrounded by beauty he doesn't comment much less give out hugs on sight. Ultear, though? Definitely can't stop hugging her. (人◕ω◕);;;; Although Ultear could live without the "still can't believe you're a real woman" comments. The whole Zalty snafu was YEARS ago, Natsu. (人◕ω◕);;;;;
But I digress. Ultear is a good mama. Has plenty of experience, looking after Meredy. She has a mischievous streak, but overall she's very balanced and mature. Doesn't let kids get too crazy or unsupervised. (人◕ω◕) She's high on "the list", but if you do choose to go to her for babysitting, prepare yourself to owe her a favor or pay exorbitant fees. Ultear-chan doesn't work for cheap. (人◕ω◕) Although she makes exceptions for emergencies. She's not heartless. She just wants some side money if you're going to be lazy about parenting. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) Much like Sorano and Yukino, Ultear's past trauma has inspired her to be a magnificent mother. \(人◕ω◕)/
Mira-chan.... Ehehehe.... (人◕ω◕);;;;; So. She's got a reputation among the wives. Many love to hate her for her spunkier, meaner rival side. However, Mira-chan is absolutely an enormous threat as a wife and mother of Natsu's many kids. So many that are her own. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;; She can cook, she can clean, she's amazing at entertaining kids.... Mirajane is like the whole package. Barring her sadistic rivalry angle, Mira-chan is PERFECT. Too perfect. And it's just not fair. (人◕ω◕)
Mira-chan has an insane amount of kids with Natsu. Competing with Erza, Ultear, and Sorano. (人◕ω◕) You would think this kills her modeling career, but no.... If anything, the fact she's very much taken and is in very good shape between all the sex and training.... Mira-chan continues to maintain her gorgeous public image over the years, and the other wives just don't know HOW. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) She ages super gracefully, has oodles of charisma.... Sheesh. Angels must fall from heaven, cuz Mira-chan is so angelic all the time.... But everyone knows she's got a switch. And when it gets flipped.... You're boned. Very much boned. (人◕ω◕)
Mira-chan wormed her way into Natsu's heart over the years with her cooking and how she listened and talked with him so easily. Even when most others wrote him off as a kid at heart. (人◕ω◕) Mira always saw the diamond in the rough that he is, and she heavily invested in him. Even trained with him after getting her powers back. (人◕ω◕) Natsu is her equal in every way that matters, and she's not sorry for being greedy with him. That's HER pyro, dammit. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
Finally, Erza-chan. (人◕ω◕)
Same deal as Mira, Ultear, and Sorano. Insane level of kids, unapologetically territorial of HER pyro. (人◕ω◕) Missions, training, relaxing.... She does it all with Natsu and their family. (人◕ω◕) And just like Mira, she somehow finds the time to maintain her image and spot as the guild's disciplinarian and one of their aces. (人◕ω◕)
In terms of mamahood... Erza admittedly has to adapt to a learning curve. She didn't have it mastered right off the bat. However, like Mira and Ultear, Erza is diligent, hard-working. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) She might be awkward sometimes, but that's simmered down over the years. Natsu helped her mellow out, to find that happy medium between stern and having a good time. (人◕ω◕) Perhaps just as important, Erza will always have a special place in Natsu's heart, and it's a two way street. Natsu will always look up to and admire Erza. She's strong as hell, and she's fun to play around with.
... Even if she sometimes hurts. (人◕ω◕) But that's usually when he messes up. And that's okay~
Erza took a while to get parenting down, but she and Natsu learned it together. (人◕ω◕) Like Mira, she's at the top of the "list" for leaving your kids with her for babysitting. ... You just have to beg her to not go too crazy with collateral damage. (人◕ω◕) When Erza goes all-out, she goes all-out. Nuff said. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)

Smudged Happiness: Chapter 1
Author’s note: Fairy Tail high school au - but a little fucked up (feat nalu, jerza, gruvia, gale, zervis)
I feel like the true gen z high school experience never got shown truly accurate in media. They either went way over board, like Euphoria, or they were this kinda cringe middle ground, like Ginny and Georgia. Although it’s just a silly fan fiction with gross exagerations, I truly want to show an accurate portrayal about what it was like growing up as teenager in the later 2010s. At least for a suburban middle class.
Lucy is mostly the main character, but a lot of this story is told through the point of view of many different characters. Simultaneous stories happen at the same time, and sometimes a scene is told twice from different povs. All discrepancies are intentional as everyone is an unreliable narrator.
Lucy Hearfilia laid in a bed three times too large for her with her eyes closed yet fully awake. The empty space in her bed suffocated her and the sound her clock's tick echoed in her heartbeat's thud. After what could have been two minutes, or two hours, Lucy got out of bed and walked across the room to her desk. Her desk was handcrafted out of ivory and intricate designs were carved into the legs of the table. Lucy felt nervous with a hint of melancholy so she began to do the only thing that could help settle her nerves. She got out a clean piece of paper and a pen and began to write.
Dear Mom,
I am starting my Sophmore year at Fairy Academy this year. I am feeling kind of nervous right now and I know that if you were here then you would know exactly what to say. Truth is, I don't know what I am so nervous about, after all, I can't wait to see all my friends again-
Lucy smiled at the thought of her friends. She had not seen them all summer due to the trip to Europe she took over the summer. She had to admit that it stung seeing all her friends together on social media but she did not blame them. It was not their fault her summer was taken up by fancy overseas business parties.
I made a lot of great friends after I transferred halfway through freshman year. I am sure you would have loved to meet them, Mom. I expected to have a hard time finding friends due to my late start however, that was not the case at all. I made friends with the most beautiful girl I have ever met, Mirajane Strauss.
Lucy thought of her friend Mira, she was kind and beautiful, everything Lucy wanted to be. But behind her kind words and a beaming smile, she too knew the tragedy of losing family. Mira's younger sister, Lisanna, was killed in a freak accident when Mira was twelve and her sister was nine. She had learned about Lisanna's tragic end on the third anniversary of her death. On that day, everyone wore purple in remembrance of Lisanna. When Lucy had asked about the occasion, someone had told her that Lisanna had found a baby dove on the ground and decided to put it back in its nest. While she was climbing the tree, a branch snapped and she fell to the ground where she was impaled by a fallen branch. They said that the odds of her landing on the branch at just the right angle to kill her was one in a million. The story haunted Lucy and from that day forward, whenever Lucy saw a dove, she felt her stomach drop.
I also made friends with a girl named Levy McGarden. You would've liked her a lot. Like me, she shares my passion of reading and writing. We were thinking about starting a creative writing club at our school this year, actually.
Levy was the first friend that she had made when she transferred. Levy was working at the front office the morning Lucy transferred and noticed that Lucy looked lost. Levy asked if she was new and Lucy had replied yes. Levy walked her to her first class and offered Lucy to eat lunch with her and her friends.
Two of my closest friends are Gray and Erza. Last year, we all had our first period and lunch together. Our teacher was harsh and the subject was boring but it was the best part of my day. We always did projects together and met up at the local cafe near the school.
Erza is a grade ahead and the school council president - all the students respected and feared her. Gray is the carefree slacker who always props his feet up on the desk in front of them. Lucy never imagined she would be able to have friends like them. She smiled as she remembered all the fun they had in their first class together, Juvia's constant declarations of love that Gray never took seriously, going to the mall, and just hanging out after school.
However, never would I have had the friends and the adventures if it wasn't for my best friend, Natsu Dragneel.
Lucy paused and reread her sentence several times. Her best friend Natsu Dragneel. While Levy was her first friend, Natsu introduced her to all her other friends. He always made her feel included in everything that they did. She went over to his house almost on a weekly business, whether it was to study for an upcoming test or just to hang out.
Lucy began to reminisce on how they met. It was her second week of school and she still only had one friend Levy. It was fine, she really only needed one. The teacher called for a group project and wanted everyone in groups of four. Lucy figured that she would just join Levy, Jet, and Droy, that is until the teacher decided that she would assign the groups. Lucy still remembers the groups that the teacher had called out.
"Levy, Gajeel, Cana, and Kiana"
"Jellal, Mira, Laxus, and Bickslow"
"Freed, Reedus, Evergreen, and Mest"
"Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Erza"
Immediately Natsu and Gray jumped out of the chair and yelled out, "WHY WITH HIM?"
After being scolded by Erza the quietly shrank back down into their seat. Afterward, the teacher gave them time to sit down and begin working on their projects.
"So who's this Lucy chick anyway?" Natsu said scanning the class.
"I sit right next to you, flame brain!" Lucy said in a tone harsher than she had meant.
"Chill dude, I thought your name was Luigi or something like that," Natsu said smiling.
They did not get a lot of work done the rest of the day and decided that they would have to meet up at Natsu's house later that day to get work done. Levy had come up to her at the end of class and apologized saying that her schedule got changed and that she could not sit with Lucy for lunch because she had library aid for the rest of the semester. Lucy smiled and said it was alright but could not help but to feel if she was back at square one, lonely girl with no friends.
When she walked into the courtyard for lunch, Natsu immediately called her over to come sit with him. When Lucy asked why he invited her, he merely smiled and said
"Were friends right?"
"Right."
~
Later that day when she got into the car of the Hearfilia driver, she told him to take her to Natsu's house instead of her own.
"Has my lady finally made friends?" the driver asked raising an eyebrow.
"Kinda," Lucy said, "we're just doing a project is all."
She got to his house at the same time as Erza and Gray. Erza reached over to ring the doorbell and then they waited in silence for a few moments. After a couple of seconds, a boy with jet black hair and piercing black eyes opened the door. Lucy began to panic as she thought that they had all mistakenly gone to the wrong place
until Gray said, "Hey Zeref, is Natsu home?"
Zeref sighed and opened the door to let them into the living room. "That idiot just ran off to the store with Wendy. He'll be back in about ten minutes. You can wait
here I guess."
"Zeref? Whose here? Some of Natsu's friends?" a girl's voice called.
"Something like that," Zeref called back.
Lucy went over to the source of the voice and saw a girl with blonde hair laying on the couch holding a video game controller. Instantly Lucy recognized her.
"Ha you didn't pause the game and now I am way ahead of you," the girl said smiling.
"You need all the head start you can get," Zeref said sitting down and picking up the other controller.
"You're Mavis Vermillion!" Lucy exclaimed. "As in, the valedictorian of your grade and captain of the volleyball team with a full ride to all the top colleges?
Friends with Yuri, Precht, and Warrod? You're practically perfect!"
Mavis smiled, "I am nowhere near perfect and a lot of those rumors are just exaggerations anyway."
Suddenly the door to the garage opened and Natsu burst inside.
"I'm back! And I bought supplies to help us complete our project! Oh, hey Mavis!"
A young girl came in the door behind Natsu helping him bring in some of the supplies.
"Oh Lucy, this is my cousin Wendy who lives with us while her mother is working in another country," Natsu said introducing them.
"Nice to meet you!" Wendy said smiling.
That memory of working together all night on a project was one of Lucy's favorites. For the first time ever, she had learned what it was like to have friends. Lucy looked back down at the letter she was writing to her mom. She no longer felt nervous, just relaxed.
Thank you, Mom, for always calming me down. Even though you are not here, I know that you are watching me.
Love,
Lucy.
Lucy then fell asleep at her desk after signing her name.

What the water gave me - i
Juvia suddenly leaves Fairy Tail. Gray knows it is for sure not his fault. But why does he feel so guilty?
Hi tumblr peeps, I decided to try uploading my gruvia long fic after all! I will not be able to say how quickly I will update this, but well either way.
Gray x Juvia
An arc between Tenroujima and the GMG in which Juvia runs from the guild and Gray gets her back (maybe)
Very angsty, a lot of self doubt, self hate, canon typical violence, gray is in focus
Rated M
---
Since Gray had sent her out, since Gray had seen her injury, she had foolishly assumed he would come look for her eventually. She couldn’t move where she was, not without extreme pain, so it was of the utmost necessity that someone would carry her at least until she could find Wendy to rudimentary heal her wounds. Juvia understood that Gray had other things to take care of, that he was fighting something bigger than she could understand, but she held out in the mud and the setting sun because she was convinced he’d come.
He was kind after all, he cared, he might not love her, but he cared. He would come. Definitely. And even if he didn’t, surely Lisanna would, after all Juvia and her had been partners, right? And even if Lisanna was too busy with whatever she was doing, surely some other member, Gajeel or Lucy or the Master, would notice she was missing and look for her, right? But hours passed and Juvia remained alone, lying face down in mud and dirt. Eventually, the wind brought in laughter from the other side of the island, indicating that there was a party going on wherever the others were. The fighting had evidently ended and they were celebrating having survived, even with Juvia missing. She realised then like a fist to her stomach that nobody was going to come for her. They must have forgotten.

Paper Planes
Pairing: Juvia Lockser/Gray Fullbuster Characters: Juvia Lockser, Gray Fullbuster, Lisanna Strauss Summary: Gray comes back from a mission and resumes a tradition he and Juvia had before he left. Do not repost, claim to be your own work or use it without perrmission. Cross-posted on AO3
Juvia Lockser felt her heart pounding strong in her chest. She had been waiting for the day Gray Fullbuster would return from his mission for days. She couldn’t even tell how much she missed seeing him on the balcony in the apartment across hers every morning. She opened the front door of her own apartment and immediately glanced at the outside area of it, noticing there was something on the floor. As she walked towards it, she felt a pain through her heart, for not seeing him yet. Juvia bent down and picked up what seemed to be a yellow paper plane. She picked it up and opened it. Her heart began beating faster and faster as she unfolded the paper. She could barely control her smile while reading its content and ran to the edge of her balcony as soon as she finished. The smile on her face immediately faded when she realized there was no one around. That he wasn’t around. About two minutes later, when she returned inside, Gray walked out of where he had been hiding – and watching her – the whole time. He was holding a few colored papers in his left hand.
Hours later, Gray finally arrived at his house. He let himself fall on the couch and watched some TV. At some point, he glanced at the window and saw something outside it. He jumped out of the sofa, rushing to it. A smile appeared on his lips when he saw it was a paper plane. She had written one and threw it towards his apartment. Still smiling, he returned inside.
****
A few days had gone by and Juvia couldn’t help but feel a little upset because she didn’t get any other paper planes. But then again, she hasn’t sent any as well. She was making her way to a table at the bar when something came flying and landed on her seat. She immediately put her glass on the table and picked the light yellow paper plane, unfolding it right away. Her heart was full of love and she pressed the letter against her chest.
“Hey, Juvia.” Lisanna approached her, with a large smile on her face. “Is that a letter from a secret admirer?”
“It’s from my lovely Gray.” Juvia said excitedly and pressed the letter tighter against her chest, crushing the paper a little. “Juvia loves it very much.”
“I can tell.” The other woman smiled wider. “You really like him, don’t you?”
“Juvia does!” She exclaimed and started looking around, searching for him. “I can’t find my Gray! He’s not here.”
“I saw him leaving. Maybe if you hurry, you can catch him.”
“Juvia is out.” She stormed out of the bar, desperately looking for the object of her affection.
Juvia looked all around herself when she walked outside, her heart pounding and aching at the mere thought of not finding her favorite person. Desperation taking over her, as well as the tears in her eyes, until another paper plane landed on her feet. Her heart beating even faster as she bent down and picked up. Her eyes were fixated on the light blue paper in her hands, but she could still see a pair of legs walking out from a house and stopping some meters away from her. She would recognize them anywhere. A large smile appeared on her face even before she locked eyes with him. She briefly felt breathless as she stared at his bare chest, which she adored.
“My lovely Gray! Juvia missed you so much!” She ran to him, closing their rather long distance. “Are you okay? Did you get hurt on this mission? You look so pale! Juvia will take care of you.”
“I’m fine.” He assured her. “It was an exhausting mission, but everything went fine. I’m here now.”
“Juvia is so happy!” She squealed, in complete bliss.
“So do you want to get it on?”
“Get it on?” She repeated, her cheeks blushing heavily and affection overwhelming her. And soon, she passed out.
“Juvia, are you okay?” Gray held her in his arms, shaking her lightly. “Juvia, wake up.”
The blue haired woman slowly opened her eyes and her whole face went red with their proximity. Never had she ever stayed so close to his chest before, let alone being held by him.
“Juvia is not fine.” She managed to say, despite all the feelings their proximity brought to her.
“You’re not gonna pass out again, are you?”
“No.” Though she felt like she could easily do it again, due to how inebriating his scent was. She wondered what it was of.
“So, you still haven’t answered my question.” He offered her his hand and they both stood up. Juvia couldn’t help but rejoice on the fact she was actually holding his hand. It felt so soft and warm. “Do you want to get it on?”
“Uh…Juviawouldloveto.” The words came out of her mouth altogether, due to how nervous she was with such offer.
“Sorry, I don’t think I heard you.” Gray said in a light tone, though deep down he did hear what she said.
“Juvia would love to.” She said it again, more slowly this time.
“Great.” He curled his fingers around her palm and brought both their hands down. “Also, you still haven’t read the last paper plane.”
“Oh.” Juvia looked down to the paper she was still holding in her right hand and let go of him to undo the plane. Her eyes went wide while she silently read it, and her cheeks blushed violently. “Gray.” She looked up at him. “Did you really mean that?”
“Of course I did.” He looked down at her. “All this time I was away made me think ‘why not’? And it felt good. It felt right.”
She looked at his hand stretched at her for a moment and then into his eyes again.
“So what do you say?”
A warm smile appeared on her lips as she took it. “I say that’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

Happy Endings
Ship: Natsu Dragneel x Lucy Heartfilia Summary: What Natsu knew about families had been an ever-changing subject for as long as he could remember. Yet somehow, he found himself free from these wonders one day. Day 2 of Nalu Week - prompt: family Ao3
***
Natsu could only remember one time in his life when he was searching for a family. During that time, he only remembered cold, dark woods, and a feeling of abandonment he couldn’t shake. Igneel had disappeared, and he truly felt scared and alone. When Makarov picked him up and carried him to the warm safety of the Fairy Tail guild, he remembered feeling better, though still confused and upset. Igneel had been all he had, all he needed, and suddenly he was gone, and Natsu needed someone else to help him teach him how to live. In that sense Makarov was an angel from above – he provided him with a family, friends, food and roof over his head. He provided him with the guidance he needed to function in society, and for that Natsu would forever be thankful.
As he met the other children Makarov had managed to pick up on his journeys, he also had to learn how to share, and how to play fairly. That way he discovered that he hated a black-haired boy named Gray, that the redheaded girl called Erza was scarier than anyone he had ever met before – and mind you, his dad was a dragon, and he discovered that the Strauss siblings were easy to boss around. Well, not Mira-Jane, she was as scary as Erza, but the other two, Lisanna and Elfman, were fun and easy to play with. Though Elfman was quite the scaredy cat, which made some games complicated whenever they played together.
And so it happened that Natsu and Lisanna became best friends. They still had their differences – Natsu was wilder than her and wanted to play more violent games, preferably in a way that made him look tough, and Lisanna liked to make those games more emotional. She was actually quite good at storytelling and managed to modify Natsu’s ideas to make it work for both of them. If Natsu wanted to fight, then she would make it that he was fighting for a good cause – to protect his friends and family, and Lisanna herself could be a princess or a sibling who had to be saved. They worked well, the two of them – something that would be proved when they finally got old enough to go on missions to earn some money for themselves. Though that’s skipping ahead in time.
Before they went on missions together, they one day found a mysterious egg. By then Natsu had gotten more content with the idea of staying with Fairy Tail for good. He would always search for Igneel, and he would certainly find him, but until then he liked the group of people he knew in this wild guild. He even liked Gray, though he’d never admit it if anyone asked. The guild was wild and violent, friendly fights breaking out every other day, but he knew in his heart that this was his home, and that the people inside it was his family.
Lisanna, who Natsu thought was getting more creative by the hour, figured out that they could play house with this egg they found. For her, the family dynamic was simple to spot – she would be the mommy, Natsu the daddy, and whatever was in that egg would be the baby. Of course, the part of her that had a small crush on Natsu was also happy with this game, and unbeknownst to her, Natsu was also pleased with it. He had too much pride to admit it, but he loved playing with Lisanna, despite her to him crazy ideas about wives and husbands and weddings. Those words had no substance in his world – why couldn’t everyone just live and love and let life happen without the interruptions of ceremonies and such? Well, it didn’t really matter when it came down to it, because ceremonies or not, games or reality, the egg was bound to hatch, and when it did and a tiny, blue, flying kitten came out of it, Natsu felt something click within himself. The cat, who Natsu named Happy, had brought together the guild in a way he never quite had seen or experienced before. In the guild, people had lost big parts of their families, replacing it with the friends and elderly figures found in Fairy Tail, but now they met Happy – a cat who not only could fly, but who they also soon learned could speak. This kitten had never known a life without a family, abandoned or lost. He was constantly surrounded by loud and happy people, and even when he wasn’t in the guild hall, he spent all his awake time with Natsu and Lisanna. Happy’s childhood fascinated many of the children. For him, the constant flow of people around him, assured that he would never truly be lonely. He could have a silly fight with Natsu and Lisanna, who were likely trying their best to raise him, even though they were only children themselves, and Happy could fly off to some other group of people, who all would be grateful to have him near them. See, Happy was properly and thoroughly loved, because all the family he had ever known, would never leave him.
Natsu saw Happy’s childhood unfold right in front of him. He was practically the only person Happy would dare to categorise as a father figure, though, brother was probably a better word for it, seeing as they practically learned to live side by side. Still, even if Natsu wouldn’t be able to put it into words by this age, he understood that Happy’s childhood was the ideal. All his friends should have gotten a chance to experience what Happy did, but too few of them actually did. By this time, he knew enough about marriages, wives, husbands and children, to know that one day, he would like to try again at raising a baby. Happy was quite exceptional, who survived having Natsu as his main provider, and Natsu looked forward to raising actual human babies – though it could certainly wait until he had sniffed out Igneel.
Lisanna had taken a huge role when it came to raising Happy. She took it more seriously than any other friend Natsu knew, and even though he first should have been concerned over the lack of adults who partook in Happy’s early months, he soon found out that she was the perfect person for the job. Kind-hearted, caring, fun and responsible. She truly was it all, and Natsu couldn’t help noticing his feelings for her develop. Maybe it was his years as a preteen, or maybe he was just finally old enough to see her clearly, but his admiration for her grew constantly. Not a day went by where Natsu and Happy weren’t by Lisanna’s side. They were glued together, until the day came when Lisanna had gotten permission to take a harder job with her siblings. It was the worst day in Natsu’s life since he was abandoned by his father in the woods. Now, he felt like he had truly been through it all. The only consultation was that he still had Happy by his side, and even that wasn’t cheering him up. How could anyone deal with the death of someone? Had Natsu spent all this time with her in vain? Weren’t they supposed to try again with the family stuff, some day far into the future?
As soon as he had noticed his happiness come, he saw it go. Over and over again, he watched the last memory of her repeat in his mind. Fair skin, light hair, endlessly blue eyes, and the softest smile he had ever known. He was meant to protect her, to be there to ward off any dangers, just like they had played as kids. How could fate be so cruel that he didn’t even get to see his longest friend grow old? Natsu had never asked for much, he never expected Lisanna to hold on to her childhood crush on him, and he truthfully wasn’t expecting himself to hold on to it either. He knew life could come between the two of them, but how could he accept it when it was death that split them, and not life?
Natsu wasn’t proud of how he dealt with his sorrows. It had begun with anger, not at anyone specific – especially not Mira or Elfman, who he knew did all they could to protect her, even when Elfman had lost all control. No, he was mad at himself, for not being there for her, even if he wouldn’t be able to beat an out-of-control Elfman, he could have gone in her place. Really, anything would have been a better outcome than this, he thought, as long as it meant that Lisanna could get a chance to live a long and full life.
After Natsu went through the different stages of grief, he learned that the way he could most comfortably cope with his loss, was to push other people away. Don’t get him wrong, he wouldn’t go out of his way to ignore people if they wanted to talk with him or hang around him, but he had stopped trying to reach out and connect with the rest of the guild. Happy was always by his side of course, and as he vowed he would never allow anything bad happen to him, he also knew that he was avoiding emotional confrontation. At several instances he would realise that Happy was trying to make him talk about what had happened, to maybe come to some cliché solution where Natsu finally could say “life works in mysterious ways” and then continue living. Not that Happy necessarily wanted him to come to that conclusion, but he knew that Natsu was avoiding what had happened, and it would only lead to more harm in the future if he couldn’t learn to cope with it now. He might not have understood exactly that things would end up like that, but he sensed that something could go very wrong within Natsu’s brain if he didn’t start connecting with people again.
The sorrow however never subsided; it just became greyer as the time went on. Even if Natsu never truly recovered from the loss, the same way that Mira and Elfman had changed for good, life still got easier. He slowly started to learn to live with it, and despite his emotional unavailability, other than the anger his hot-headed temper allowed to show, he still managed to learn to appreciate the family he still had. He never let his sight go of Happy, and he always made sure he was in safety before he joined in with any guild brawls. He also never managed to gather a proper team after Lisanna passed, but he still had idle chats by the bar when the time was right. He disguised his cravings for the touch of another human’s skin by throwing fists at Gray and Loke, and he even took some time to appreciate Erza’s reliability from afar whenever he thought no-one noticed.
This is how his relationship with the guild looked like for a long time. Admiring from afar, never letting people see his real feelings and desires, in fear that he would lose another friend if he got too close. It was after all an undeniable pattern – he loved Igneel, and he disappeared one day. He found proper fatherly love in Gildarts, who always went away as fast as he arrived. And Lisanna – the person he had the most tender relationship with, went away in the most excruciating way. It couldn’t keep happening like this, and so he hid away his feelings.
A few weird coincidences lead to a big change in Natsu’s life. One day in the guild, he had accidentally overheard a fellow guild mate mention a fire breathing salamander. Normally, breathing fire wasn’t out of the ordinary for Natsu. It was after all a magic spell he had learned at a young age, and he now managed to control it relatively easily. Adding that to the word salamander however awoke a picture in his head – a salamander didn’t look too far off from a dragon, apart from size and some other minor details. And if it could breathe fire, then it might just as well be possible that it was Igneel! So, despite the very high chance of it not being Igneel, he went to search for him, just to check it out. It wasn’t too far away, but he took the train, because he simply didn’t want to waste any time (though he didn’t know he’d pass out from motion sickness and accidentally waste time through an extra trip). At the time he didn’t know that time was moving him towards his fate, so he could happen to meet the right person, just at the right time.
The commotion the “salamander” brought to the coastal town of Hargeon was fateful indeed – he saw a weak fire mage (who certainly didn’t compare to a dragon) scam young girls by making them think he had certain interest in them, he somehow got an autograph, and then there she was, with bright yellow hair, brown concerned eyes, and a magic mouth. Magic was an exaggeration, since she had only offered to buy him and Happy some lunch, but he was grateful non the less. In fact, he hadn’t been too off with the magic stuff – the weird girl called Lucy was a celestial mage, which was something he knew nothing about before their encounter. Apparently, she could summon “spirits” or “sprites” (he didn’t care too much about the proper terminology) thanks to magical keys.
Despite her chatty mouth, he immediately knew that he liked her. There was something refreshing about her – maybe it was the way she acted the same way his guildmates did, combined with the fact that she didn’t know anything about him. He was a new face to her, and that was something he appreciated. When their ways crossed again, he knew he had to take this chance to keep her close. She had been talking excitedly about his guild during the meal, and he found her praise quite flattering, before the royal guards could capture the two of them, he grabbed her hand and made his offer: the offer to join Fairy Tail.
His life drastically changed after she joined the guild. That girl, Lucy Heartfilia, she really knew how to shake things up in that old building. She was stubborn, kind-hearted, hot headed, funny, and incredibly smart, and somehow, she stuck around Natsu, despite his standoffish attitude and impolite way of inviting her to his team by attempting to use her looks to deceive some old duke. Really, she could have decided to go on her own jobs from that point, and he wouldn’t blame her the slightest. But she decided to stay, even when he brought her on S-class jobs and practically made her risk her life. And after this, when she turned out to be the daughter of the Heartfilia Konzern, she spent most of her time worrying if she even deserved to be a member of the guild. He couldn’t believe it! She was the only one ha really had been able to get close to since Lisanna died, and as if that wasn’t enough, she even brought him closer to his other guild mates. He had never spent as much time with Gray or Erza or Mira before Lucy got in the picture.
There was never a dull day now that Lucy had joined the guild. People he had seen as enemies were now allies, like that weird other dragon slayer, Gajeel, and the water girl Juvia. The jobs they took (somehow, they had allowed Erza and Gray to join their team, which Natsu wasn’t too happy about – he liked the small group of him, Lucy and Happy) got crazier and crazier, and the effect it had on the guild, his family, was nothing less than magical. It’s silly of him to compare the great, amazing, good things to magic, because magic was an ordinary concept now that wizards and witches grew in population, but it was true; Lucy made them all tighter, happier, even if they didn’t know how much credit she deserved.
Thanks to this girl’s existence, Natsu, Wendy, Happy and Carla were able to survive some really complicated situations, when Lucy turned out to be the only one who could use magic in the weird reality called Edolas. Thanks to her they figured out how to save the rest of the guild, and as a byproduct, one of the most improbable things happened: Lisanna came back to life. Well, that wasn’t exactly how it had gone, since she never really died in the first place, but that is how it felt for everyone from Earthland. Mira and Elfman got their little sister back, and they were happier than ever, and though Natsu should have felt ecstatic as well, seeing as his first resemblance of love was back, he didn’t feel very different. He was happy, but he had been for a while now, now that Lucy was around. His childhood crush was just that – a childhood crush, and he was grateful to be able to befriend Lisanna again after all this time apart. The odd thing was that he didn’t feel a need to get back to how things were. Happy almost seemed the same – excited to see Lisanna alive and well, but not in need to continue their mother-son relationship from where it dropped off.
And around that time was when it hit Natsu: his idea of a family had changed drastically. Igneel was still in the back of his mind, and the guild would always be his home, but now he found himself constantly drawn to the girl whose golden hair could outshine the stars. His life suddenly revolved around her, and Happy had found himself right in the middle of it. Lucy and Happy were even tighter than Lisanna and Happy – not because Happy didn’t like Lisanna, but because Lucy had become one of his absolute best and closest friends, only competing with Natsu himself. They had become a team, even way back then, and the three of them would just continue to play around and live life as dangerously as humanely possible. They were inseparable.
As time went by, they had been through a lifetime of crazy experiences. They had been stuck in time after being attacked by a dragon, gotten a comeback at the Grand Magic Games and won the whole thing, then he met future Lucy who sacrificed herself for her past self, something that would never be forgotten by Natsu, and he would certainly never forgive future Rogue for acting like that. At that point he hadn’t met the dragons though, but he soon would, and somehow he would survive seven of them, and then, after visiting a town where giants lived, a demon guild decided to kidnap Natsu, because apparently he had some connection to Zeref, the dark mage, and then, completely out of the blue, Igneel showed up. Lucy had been there for all of this, and at the time she already seemed out of it, sort of depressed in a way that maybe only Natsu could pick up on. She had been waving it off as being tired, but later he learned she had sacrificed Aquarius, her mother’s key, just so she could save the guild from being digested by a monster. And now, there he was, Natsu’s father, or the closest thing he had ever known to be a father, and he was there to fight Fairy Tail’s greatest enemy: Acnologia.
In an ideal world, Igneel was supposed to win that fight. He would win, and he would spend the rest of his life with Natsu and Happy and Lucy and the guild, and so would the other dragons. Everything was supposed to be alright afterwards, and the whole E.N.D. thing would solve itself. His heart would be full, and his family would be whole. He would have it all. So, when the evil force that was Acnologia murdered Igneel in front of Natsu’s eyes, he knew something had to change. Something that Natsu never believed would happen in a million years, in his darkest nightmares, happened, and he couldn’t stop it. The image was etched into his brain, and it replayed like a scratched CD, scarring the brain tissue that was responsible for his happiness, and that was when he knew he could never allow something similar to happen ever again. No matter what, he had to get stronger. If he hadn’t been strong enough to prevent Igneel from dying, then there was no chance for him to stop Zeref or Acnologia. So, he did the only thing he could think of. He left everyone in order to grow stronger.
Natsu had never intended to leave Lucy alone, and he certainly didn’t intend to bring Happy either. Happy was great, and even if he pretended to have full faith in the blue feline’s survival skills, he was worried he’d hurt him with his fire, or that he’d accidentally drop a boulder on him somehow during this training. That’s why he first wanted to leave Happy with Lucy – they could take care of each other. If Happy didn’t want to be with her all the time, he could be with Lisanna or Wendy, or anyone he'd like, really. But not even Natsu could convince Happy to stay behind – the exceed simply wouldn’t hear of it. He protested for days when he learned that Natsu intended to leave Lucy as well, but when he didn’t budge, all Happy could do was to convince him to at least leave a note, so she wouldn’t worry too much. So that’s what he did. It took many days for Natsu to get the words right, as it felt like nothing he wrote would be enough to excuse himself with. “Happy and I are going to train, we’ll be back in a year” could be reworded as “I’m running away, yikes, don’t die, maybe I’ll come back, or not” and it gave off practically the same feeling. The letter he settled on was short and cruel in his opinion, and he knew he could never fully be forgiven for what he was about to do, but he just couldn’t deal with this loss in any other way.
It wasn’t supposed to be as hard to leave as it was. Natsu and Happy had always been the original original team, ever since Natsu found that egg in the woods. It hadn’t been Lisanna who found him, but Natsu, and therefore they stuck together. They had known each other for Happy’s entire life, and Lucy had only joined a few years ago, plus 7 years that couldn’t really count. That was the facts, Happy and Natsu, Natsu and Happy – it was always those two who would stick together, no matter the situation. So why on earth was leaving Lucy the hardest thing he had to make himself do? He had no choice but to see his father leave, but running away from Lucy was entirely Natsu’s decision. He would be crushing mountains and he would evaporate entire lakes and seas, yet those feats had nothing on him abandoning her. He didn’t understand how or why, but Lucy was more important than anyone else he had ever met, well, parallel to Happy. Natsu didn’t care about Lucy like a sister or anything, not like Erza, Levy, Cana, Mira or nowadays Lisanna. She was just his friend, except it wasn’t fair to call her “just” or “friend”. She was… his. That’s all he could get from it. She was his new safe point, where he went to recharge or relax, and calling her family didn’t make sense for him at the time, despite the similar characteristics she shared with the rest of the guild.
When he finally had enough courage to return, she had changed drastically. Before she seemed to live life like there was no tomorrow, never worrying about a thing, flying from one job to another, just happy to experience life in all it’s glory. When he met her eyes in the burning stadium, he couldn’t find the glimmer he once had compared to the stars. He had never felt so heartbroken. It felt so stupid, because here he was, grinning like an idiot, asking a stupid and shallow question, and Lucy should have taken her chance to kick him and scream at him and cry, and yet she managed to smile and carry on being her kind, polite self. Except, he knew she felt weirded out by the whole thing. They hadn’t met each other in an entire year, yet here he and Happy was, acting as if no time had gone by at all. A dick move, but it was the only thing Natsu knew he could do. And sometimes, for a few minutes, he could swear he had dreamt the whole year of training, and that everything was back to how it used to be. Him, Lucy and Happy, eating and playing and talking, like there was eternity ahead of them.
While the air between Natsu and Lucy sometimes grew thick, the bond between them also grew. It became stronger after this time apart, and now all Natsu could think of was how mature she seemed compared to him. Her hair was in this ponytail on the side of her head, tied with a really pretty blue ribbon, that really flattered her skin tone. Her clothes were new as well, and he couldn’t help but admire her lean back whenever he walked behind her. He was so aware of everything she said and did, and he found himself multiple times trying to casually show off to her. He felt pretty humbled when he learned that she had done her own special training, even learning to use those star dresses (though some of those outfits he wouldn’t mind being more covering), and her job as a journalist had clearly only aided her in becoming smarter, and suddenly he once again felt like he had missed too much of her time. He found himself wishing that he’d never left at all, just so he could have been by her side as she grew.
The true turning point in their relationship happened later on, during the final war against Zeref and his nation. One of the Spriggan 12, a woman named Dimaria, had killed her, murdered her, his Lucy, and for him, that was the point of no return. His fury burned absolutely everything, from what he later heard, even time and space, and he wouldn’t have changed that outcome for anything in the world, even in hindsight. When his anger blocked his vision, his hearing and all other senses, he remembered only having one thing in mind. He had to kill the one responsible to Lucy’s death, and it didn’t matter who he had to get through. In fact, he didn’t care if this fire and rage killed him, because without her he couldn’t imagine living on.
The rest of that big day was kind of a big blur. He knew he had gotten his senses back in the middle of a fight with Gray, where Erza had stepped in to break them up. Shortly after he could smell Lucy, and then before he knew it her arms were wrapped around him. He was completely drained, but inside he was the happiest man alive. She was alive, maybe he somehow had managed to save her from the cruel fate Dimaria would have given her otherwise. Then more time passed, and things became blurry again until he felt part of himself heal. He once again sensed Lucy had jumped in to save him in some smart way he couldn’t wrap his head around, because he was fighting Zeref and only barely managed to stay up against him.
To describe every single moment that Lucy saved his life in, or to go into detail about every fight they fought together would take a lifetime. When Fairy Tail fought Zeref, Natsu weren’t unfamiliar to his possessiveness towards the celestial mage, since he many times had found himself vowing to keep promises to her future self, or just vowing to never let a single enemy who somehow hurt Lucy go unharmed. As he returned from Acnologia’s spiritual world, he realised that the place he was falling towards, was home. It was more than just the ruins of his guild, and it was more than his mates standing around, waiting for some celebration to begin for surviving the hardest battle yet: he fell towards Lucy and Happy. Even in midair he found himself relieved – despite having the landing left to do. In a few seconds he’d be face to face with the most beautiful face in the entire world, and he would say “I’m home” because for him there was no better word to describe that feeling. Then he would hear her say “Welcome home” and he would feel his life fall into place, like he’d finally found the missing piece to the never-ending puzzle of his life.
Sometime in the future, Natsu would continue this puzzle. He would have learned by then that the wife-thing Lisanna talked about when they were little, was more than just childish dreams from a small girl, and he would allow himself to thrive in the family he’d make with Lucy. First it would be the two of them, and Happy of course. Then he’d look back at his memories from Edolas, when he met Lucy Ashley and Natsu Dragion’s daughter, Nasha, and he’d think of Grieg, and he’d think of Levy and Gajeel’s twins, and by then he’d want to expand the tiny family they made up. For Lucy to be a mother, for Natsu to be a father, and for Happy to be the best uncle anyone could ever ask for, was according to Natsu, the so-called “Happy Ending” everyone had been talking about. He would fill his life with new adventures, and he’d experience them all with Lucy, whom he by then would proudly be able to call the love of his life, and he would tell everyone that she was exactly that, until she begged him to shut his mouth and let his actions prove it instead of his words.
And though this was in the future, and he had no idea how it would turn out yet, he knew he’d never have to search for a family ever again. Now that he promised his entire future to her, he could feel safe in the knowledge that he’d spend the rest of his life dedicated to fulfilling all his promises to protect her and take her on endless amounts adventures. Not even a happy ending had to end when he had forever with her. Natsu’s Lucy.

FT x TW: Each NRC boy favorite Fairy Tail mage
This is like, half “favorite” and half “who would gravitate towards each other and end up becoming friends”
(Also limiting this to the FT guild so I don't have to think about Everyone)
Either way, interactions go brr—
Riddle: After witnessing Erza beat some manners into some people, he would probably respect her a great deal. That said, after Erza inevitably is also chaotic (they are the same but Riddle doesn't have that self-awareness yet), I think Riddle and Charle would get along really well. Tea-buddies and why-am-I-surrounded-by-thugs? buddies, and what-not.
Trey: I think Trey and Mirajane would be buds. It's the mutual eldest sibling energy, and also the steadfast dedication towards being supporting (when they are actually crazy op). They will probably bond over cooking.
Deuce: As soon as Deuce figures out that Jet is a speed-mage, they bond over their love of going really fast and Jet would absolutely love the blastcycles, and then neither of them can be stopped.
Ace: Bickslow would actually adopt Ace first, because he thinks the sleight-of-hand tricks are rad, and then probably teaches Ace even more, which Ace in turns thinks is really cool. Plus, Ace would respect how wildly blunt Bickslow can be. (They would be relentless with the teasing. They will not be stopped.)
Cater: He and Cana would be good buds. Just hanging around, sharing gossip, maybe going shopping...empathizing with the existential dread of always being a background support character with no strong connections. (So they think. The idiots /affectionate.)
Leona: Someway, somehow, Leona is going to blink and accidentally adopt Lisanna as a little sister. She's got a good head on her shoulders and doesn't pick fights but Leona sniffs out that latent exasperation and it's now he's invested in letting Lisanna release her inner feral. As a treat. Also the cat naps are real.
Ruggie: One thing leads to another and now he and Gajeel are sharing pick-pocket techniques from their Street Days. Plus Gajeel can face-tank just about anything and Ruggie would be thrilled to use him as a shield. Also Ruggie would be both impressed (and maybe jealous, because eating metal sounds convenient) to find someone with greater jaw strength than him.
Jack: Panther Lily. They would have the bro nod of respect at first, but Jack would also really look up to him, for being so cool-headed and diligent.
Azul: I'm honestly not sure who he would pick as his favorite, per se, because he would be interested in all of their magics and bounce around, but somehow now I cannot get out of my head that he would love Chico. One, making deals with the dead (in addition to the living) would probably fascinate him; two, family-owned-restaurant/diner buddies. That's it. That's all I got. (He's very Blue Pegasus-shaped though, so I bet he would love that guild.)
Jade: Droy. They will talk about terrestrial plants for literal hours, and Jade will probably bamboozle him into free garden labor. (And Droy would be thrilled to have someone interested.) Honestly a win-win all around.
Floyd: Gray—both because Floyd would think the ice magic is really cool, and because Floyd would have waaaay too much fun messing with him.
Kalim: He and Lucy could totally bond over being sheltered rich kids, and being generally hyper beans. Though Lucy would definitely be the voice of reason, lol.
Jamil: resists the urge to swing into htryds and start my Jamil And Erik Would Be Friends agenda I think Jamil and Kinana would be very chill together, hiding in the corner to destress and then just vibing. (Snek friends.) Kinana would bully Jamil into self-care, probably, and she would probably remind him a bit of Najma. (yes these are my own hcs involving Kinana's characterization but let me have this)
Vil: I think Vil would sniff out Juvia's earnest try-hardness and chaotic people-pleasing and then make her a personal project, so to speak, trying to instill as much self-confidence in her as possible. Then mid nail-painting they hardcore bond over being villainized by random bystanders.
Rook: He, Bisca, and Alzack would have a sharp shooting competition and trade good ol' hunting stories, and maybe gush over baby pictures.
Epel: He'll probably unironically think Elfman is very cool. Elfman will probably declare Epel manly. They'll both shed (manly) tears.
Idia: Happy. Both because Happy is an easy-going cat and because I think Happy would be genuinely amused/interested in video games, or just watching video games. (That said, if Idia is able to get past his people-are-scary anxiety for two seconds, he and Levy would be amazing friends. Mutual nerd infodumping grounds right there.)
Ortho: I think Ortho and Wendy would be good friends. Just helpful little guys. They would equally fuel the other's cinnamon roll status and their secret gremlin status—helping kittens out of trees and bulldozing forests when provoked. That kind of thing. Ortho would be super interested in replicating enchantments on himself, I think, and Wendy would def try to help him out.
Malleus: Natsu would 100% challenge him to a (friendly) fight and then eat his fire at least once, and Malleus would be both very fascinated and thrilled to have a) someone not afraid of him and b) and fellow!! dragon!!!! buddy :D
Lilia: I know there's not really a feasible way for them to actually meet, per se, but Lilia and Mavis would be dangerously good friends. Dangerous for everyone else, that is.
Silver: One sparring match later, and Silver and Erza are definitely sharing a braincell. They'll be talking about swordplay for hours. Erza will introduce him to a new type of cake and change his life. (They are simple, straightforward beans and they will vibe so well.)
Sebek: He will probably do his best to antagonize almost everyone, but nevertheless, you know who I think he would get along great with? Evergreen. Whether or not he believes she is a fairy is irrelevant; they will agree that fairies are superior. They bond over having their favorite dragon dude they dote on and find ways to be dramatic. Evergreen will gift him some coat or accessory and Sebek will be so honored.

Chapter 7
If there's one thing Lucy is certain of, it's that Fairy Tail loves to party.
After they triumphed over Eisenwald and Lullaby and saved the guild masters, Mirajane decided to have the party sooner, so they could celebrate both Lucy's first month as a Fairy Tail mage and the formation of what she'd dubbed 'Team Natsu', much to the chagrin of Gray.
The party went on for three days, and Lucy could vaguely recall pieces of the celebration. She made the mistake of sitting next to Cana on the first night and didn't sober up until the last day.
All in all, it was a rumbustious few days and Lucy couldn't recall ever having so much fun surrounded by people she could call friends.
Levy had also surprised her one day with a golden key, after returning from a week-long job. She said it was her welcoming present from the girl, and Lucy spent the whole day in tears over the gesture.
The key turned out to be Cancer the Giant Crab, a quirky spirit (weren't they all?) that used scissors as a weapon along with the six crab-like legs protruding from his back.
She had also started training more intensely after their encounter with Lullaby.
Seeing the dangers of the magical world and how far behind she was made her determined to never feel so weak and powerless again.
Erza was there every step of her training journey, helping her hone her skills with the whip that was gifted to her by Virgo, and hand-to-hand combat.
It was a grueling regimen Erza put her on, and more times than not she ended up bruised and sore in places she didn't know a person could be sore.
She even passed out several times when she tried keeping Virgo and Cancer's gates open at the same time.
On those days, Natsu would buy her ice cream, and he and Happy would join her in watching all the movies/tv shows she wasn't allowed to watch growing up.
Lucy felt stuck with her training. She still couldn't summon two ?fighting/stronger?spirits at once, and apart from being able to hold a single spirit out for several hours without feeling drained and dizzy, she couldn't see much progress.
Erza and Levy kept reassuring her that she has improved greatly since joining the guild, but she just couldn't see it.
To no fault of Erza's, the older girl was relentless in her efforts to train her.
"It's just frustrating you know? I feel like I'm taking one step forward and then two steps back." Lucy vented to the sisters behind the bar.
Lisanna smiled at her reassuringly, patting her hand lightly. "Don't be so hard on yourself Lucy, it's barely been two months since you discovered your magic. Your progress is wondrous, I assure you. You'll get there, some things take time." Lucy wanted to groan at the last statement, it was something Erza told her often while they were sparring.
"I know, but being on a team with those three just makes me feel so inadequate. I'm just slowing them down." She slumped further on the bar counter, hiding her head in her arms.
"You're an idiot if that's what you're worried about. Honestly Lucy I thought you were smarter than that." A loud thud followed by Mira's melodic voice made her look up and see the glass of raspberry lemonade placed in front of her.
"What do you mean?"
She gave the girl a confused look as she straightened and brought the glass closer to her, taking a sip of her beverage.
Mira raised a brow at her, shooting a look at Lisanna who just giggled at her sister.
"Maybe all the training is impairing your critical thinking. You have the potential to be a very powerful mage, like Lis said, your progress is remarkable. Going from not knowing about the magic world to having three powerful keys and knowing how to wield them in less than two months is unprecedented." Mirajane told her, patting her head as she did, Lisanna nodding her head in agreement.
"Don't compare yourself to anyone, you learn and progress at your own pace and that is not a bad thing!" Lisanna added, a kind smile on her face.
Their words made Lucy feel a little better.
She knew she needed to be patient, and usually, Lucy had no problem with waiting for results, she's always been meticulous in everything she's done, and that requires patience.
But there was a feeling that was looming inside of her, something told her she didn't have much time to prepare.
Prepare for what, she didn't know. It was a gut feeling that told her something was coming.
"Lushiiii, help me!" She felt a weight land on her head and raised her arms to steady the cat.
"Happy, are you okay?" The blue exceed jumped from her head into her hands and burrowed into her chest.
"Natsu's being a meanie, he says I can't go on a job with you guys!" Happy cried out, snuggling her as he explained.
"Oh, why would he say that? I didn't even know we were going on a job?" She turned around to try and spot Natsu. "Where is he anyway?" She asked the cat after not seeing his pink hair in the guild hall.
"He said he had a surprise for you and ran off on me. I told you he was a meanie!" Happy pouted, making her laugh.
"You are just as mean as him, you called me fat the other day, and last week you both managed to ruin my kitchen." Lucy retaliated back, shuddering as she remembered walking into her apartment after an afternoon of shopping with the girls, to find her kitchen on fire, Happy and Natsu trying to extinguish it.
They were his flames, so he couldn't eat them. How does that even make sense?
It took them all night to clean everything up, and then Natsu had to repaint one of the walls. Thank the gods none of the appliances were damaged.
"We were trying to make you dinner! Well, Natsu was trying, I told him raw fish is the best way to go, but he insisted to make your favorite. I think he liikes you." Happy defended himself, making Mira and Lisanna giggle at his words.
"I have to agree with that, Happy. I've never seen Natsu bond with anyone as he has with you besides Happy. And I think you like him too." Mira teased her, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she looked at Lucy.
"It's not like that Mira, we're just friends. And Natsu loves everyone in Fairy Tail! Besides, I don't think he even knows the difference between romantic and platonic feelings." Lucy answered, in hopes of getting the older girl's thoughts away from her and Natsu in a romantic way.
"I don't know. He is an idiot, but I think he does like you Lushii. He gets all weird, like you." Happy chippers out as he flies into the air circling the bar.
"I'm not weird! And I am not going to sit here and listen to your nonsense, Levy, and I have research to do." With a small huff, Lucy left them at the bar going to find Levy.
"500 jewels they get together by the end of the year." Mira says.
"No way, Christmas is less than a month away, I say they hook up around summertime." Cana said lowering her barrel as she looked at them, smirking from her end of the bar.
"I think it will take them longer than that.
Lucy seems stubborn, and we all know how dense Natsu can be. So maybe by next Christmas?" Lisanna chimed in.
"You're all wrong. I say after the new year, but before spring." Happy told them as he fell gracefully on the counter.
"I'll take those odds!" Mira said, slapping a few bills on the bar. "Whose in?" She asked with a sinister smirk.
* ********* ********** ********** ********* *
Lucy and Levy have had solid progress with their research regarding her magic, and its history.
With the help of Grampa Crux, Virgo, Cancer, and even Aquarius at times they have managed to piece together some things.
Her Mother was a descend of the last known line of spirit summoners, who were eradicated by the dark mage Zeref. How and why her mother survived was unknown as the clan she hailed from was killed over 250 years ago.
They still had no idea why Zeref wanted them all dead.
Lucy did have a suspicion that her spirits were not telling her everything they knew. But every time she confronted them, they would say it wasn't allowed for them to reveal the past to her.
Allowed by whom is the question on Lucy's mind.
After Lullaby commented on her existence as a spirit summoner, she felt like there would be others out there, followers of Zeref, who would want her dead as well.
She didn't voice her fears to anyone, not wanting to sound paranoid. Instead, she kept up with her training and looked for anything she could find concerning the dark mage.
The texts they read through were old, and most of them were written in runes Lucy had never seen before. Thankfully Levy was well-versed in a multitude of ancient languages.
They found that there was speculation on how her magic worked, some claimed they were descendants of the stars themselves and that was why they come to their aid from the spirit world.
Others theorized that the very first summoner managed to pull a star from the heavens, and made the very first contract with a spirit.
Lucy also read up on the different types of keys besides gold and silver. There seemed to be an array of different stones, metals, and other materials from which the keys were made, all representing a specific constellation.
Lucy was sad to learn that most of them have been unseen for decades, and she knew the chances of finding one of them were improbable.
Her hand went to her hip, touching the keys that were in a pouch looped around her belt.
"I still can't believe you managed to track down Cancers key, considering there is so little word of anything relating to my magic." Lucy mused as the two girls took a break from their reading.
They were currently sitting in the guild's library. Yes, they had a library. The first time Levy brought her down to where it was located Lucy was in awe, it was beautifully furnished and filled wall to wall with books.
"The man who owned it is a long-time client, I remembered seeing a golden key in his collection at one point. I didn't think anything of it, people collect weird things all the time." Levy shrugged before continuing.
"It was only after we met that I realized it was probably a magical key, I called him and asked if there was anything I could do or find for him to trade with me for the key. He was hesitant, but relented in the end, as I had a book he was looking for and could translate it for him."
"Oh you didn't have to do all of that Lev, you could've told me and I would have bartered for the key myself." Lucy was thrown off by the other girl's kindness, eyes watering and heart clenching at her words.
"I know how much your book collection means to you."
"Don't be silly Lu, I wanted to get you a welcoming gift, besides I had two copies of the book in my possession, and I gave him the more tattered one." She admitted with a sly grin, making Lucy laugh, and move to hug the smaller girl.
"Thank you." She told her, a few tears making their way down her cheeks.
"That's what friends do." Levy told her, as they pulled back and smiled at each other.
"I think we've had enough reading for today. Let's see what Mira's cooking today." Levy said shutting her book and shuffling around picking up the scattered books around the table and putting them back in their place.
"Yeah, let's go." Lucy agreed as she stood to help the bluenette clean up.
* ********* ********** ********** ********* *
The surprise Happy told her about turned out to be a cellphone.
Lucy walked home alone after spending the evening at the guild sitting with Levy at the bar, chatting with her, Mira, and Cana.
It was a little weird to be walking home alone, as Natsu had been by her side since her first day at Fairy Tail and made it a point to walk her home, he's also been sleeping on her couch six out of seven times a week since their job in Clover Town.
She hadn't seen him since they had breakfast that morning, and Happy was nowhere to be found when she emerged from the Library with Levy.
She knew Erza was out on a job, and saw Gray brawling with some of the guys as she left for the night.
Come to think of it, didn't Happy say something about her and Natsu going on a job? Honestly, who knows with those two?
She didn't have to wait long to find them it would seem.
When Lucy made it home, she found the two of them passed out on her couch, thankfully it seems they'd managed not to burn anything this time.
But she could see a wrapped present on her coffee table.
Holding back a smile, Lucy locked her door and moved quietly through the apartment not wanting to wake them up.
As she tiptoed her way to her bedroom, she heard her couch springs groan at a shift in weight.
"Luce?" His voice was husky and deeper than usual from sleep.
Cursing his sensitive ears, Lucy braced herself for the sight of a sleepy and disheveled Natsu. A sight she just couldn't get used to, he looks so soft whenever he wakes up, and Lucy has to fight the urge to cuddle him.
Taking a deep breath she turned to face him.
"Hey. I didn't want to wake you." She said quietly, not wanting to disturb a still sleeping Happy.
"But now that you're awake, um, why exactly, were you asleep on my couch?" She asked him, and he looked around confused as if he forgot they were in her apartment, looked at the couch and the way Happy was snuggled on top of her blanket.
Natsu turned his head to her, scratching the back of his head awkwardly as he sent her a small smile.
"Yeah, Happy was supposed to bring ya back here, but he got distracted by fish and couldn't find you, so we decided to wait for ya to come back home. Didn't think you'd be at the guild this long." He told her, smile widening as he turned to pick up the wrapped box on her coffee table and held it out toward her.
"This is for you." Lucy was taken aback by the fact that he got her a gift.
When Happy mentioned a surprise, she just assumed it was another one of their silly pranks, like the time they stole her mattress to try and get her to go camping with them. Or that they'd try to get her to go fishing with them again.
Taking the present from him, Lucy inspected the box.
The wrapping paper was dark blue, intricately decorated with a variety of constellations, and Lucy wondered where he found it as she traced the start pattern for Hydra, the Sea Serpent. She was also the tiniest bit hesitant as to what he would think a good gift would be.
Knowing Natsu, it could quite literally be anything.
"Christmas is weeks away, I didn't get you anything yet." She pouted slightly, shaking off her hesitation and shock as she moved to sit in one of the armchairs across the couch.
"This isn't your Christmas present ya weirdo, just open it." He sat on the table in front of her, seemingly giddy to see her reaction.
"Okay, okay." Lucy muttered, a small smile on her face as she neatly opened the wrapped package. She could tell Natsu was impatient with her meticulous unwrapping, but the paper was really cute and she didn't want to ruin it.
Inside the box was a phone.
She looked back at Natsu, who was smiling at her. "I already had everyone's number put in. I'm your first speed dial." He told her nonchalantly, but she could see a slight blush on his cheeks.
"Obviously." Lucy nodded, feigning seriousness as she tried to hold back her smile.
She took the phone out of the box and went to turn it on.
"I also got Reedus to add a little surprise, since we don't have any pictures together." He started blustering, his hand moving to scratch the back of his head as he explained.
Her heart clenched as the device came to life and she saw the lock screen.
It was a painting of her, Natsu, and Happy.
The scene was set in a park, they were having a picnic surrounded by a field of Sakura trees, but instead of pink the petals were rainbow and ever-changing.
Lucy's vision started getting blurry as she studied the picture on her screen, Natsu was lying on top of a blanket arms crossed behind his head as he looked up at her.
Lucy sat back on his knees reading a book.
Happy, flying above them, laughing.
She looked up at Natsu, seeing him watching her reaction. "If you don't like it, I kept the receipt so we can go and change it."
Laughing, Lucy launched herself from the armchair and tackled him into a hug, taking Natsu off guard, sending both of them tumbling to the ground, arms wrapped around each other.
"I love it, thank you Natsu. Not just the phone, thank you for everything." She mumbled into his shirt as they embraced.
His arms tightened around her and she felt him let out a relieved laugh. His nose nuzzled the crown of her head as they lay wrapped around each other on the ground.
He was always so warm, it occurred to Lucy that she never knew how cold she was until his heat embraced her.
They stayed entwined for several heartbeats and just as Lucy started to pull away, a shrill voice broke through the tranquility that enveloped her apartment.
"You liikee each other." Happy shouted as he sprung into the air, white wings carrying him in circles around them.
"Natsu and Lushi sitting in a tree," he started singing and Lucy's whole body turned beet red, with a shriek she lunged for the flying feline.
"Shut it you stupid cat."
Happy only flew higher so she couldn't reach him and continued singing, laughing as Lucy started to chase him around her apartment. "Get back here, and stop with that song or I swear I'll have Cancer cut your fur off!"
"Bwhaaa, Natsu! Save me!" Happy cried as Lucy chased him. "Sorry buddy, you got yourself into this mess." Natsu shrugged, holding back his laughter as he watched them run around the apartment.
Natsu found that he enjoyed seeing Lucy flustered, so he sat back, eager to see who'll win.
* ********* ********** ********** ********* *
Waking up, tumbling out of your hammock is never a good way to start your day.
Natsu couldn't tell you, for the life of him, why he didn't have a proper bed.
When he built this cottage of his, it was to provide the necessary shelter for him and Happy. After all, he spent most of his days scouring Fiore in search of Igneel, so he didn't see a need for a bed.
Rubbing the back of his head, he thinks it might be time to buy one.
Although this is the first night in weeks that he's slept in his house, even though he stayed in Magnolia.
Most nights he ended up on Lucy's couch.
He looked at his clock on his way to the bathroom and saw it was half past twelve.
He could hear his ringtone echoing throughout the house as he showered and washed his teeth, ignoring it for the time being.
"Happy! Wake up buddy, let's go see if Mira has food for us." Natsu called for the cat from the bathroom, his phone still ringing.
"Natsu, Erza is calling you!" He heard the exceed yell back at him.
"Shit." Natsu jerked, thinking back to what he could've done to piss off the redhead.
"Answer it so she doesn't chop my head off!"
"Aye! Natsu's phone." He could hear Erza's voice on the other end, and Natsu stilled as he listened to her words, rushing to get dressed he stumbled into the living room taking the device from Happy.
"What the hell happened?" He almost growled. "They were left crucified in Magnolia Park. Laki found them on her way to the guild this morning and called the master. They've been transported back to Fairy Tail, Porlyusica is taking care of them."
There was a pause before she continued. "It was Phantom Lord. They left their mark carved into Levi's stomach." Erza gritted out.
"Those bastards are asking for it Erza. I know we've had issues with them but this is going too far."
Natsu spat out as he made his way out of the cottage and towards the guild, Happy following behind him.
There was no risk in anyone seeing him in this part of the woods.
"I know Natsu, we will take charge. I called you to see if you could get Lucy and come to the guild, I can't get a hold of her and Mira hasn't seen her since last night. We need to debrief everyone and strike up a battle plan."
Lucy. She was usually at the guild early in the morning. Though the girls did have some binding-type outing last night so maybe she just slept in.
But Natsu had a bad feeling about this.
"We'll be there soon."
He hung up the phone, not caring for the possible repercussions of hanging up on Erza. He needed to call Lucy, needed to know she was okay.
He was speeding his way through the woods in the direction of her apartment, as he waited for her to answer.
"Did you just wake up? Because if you want breakfast we can go to the guild, you raided my refrigerator on Tuesday and I still haven't been grocery shopping." Her voice mused through the phone, and Natsu felt himself relax at the sound of her voice.
She was safe.
"Why aren't you answering your phone? Erza tried callin'. There's been an attack, a rival guild went after Jet, Droy, and Levy. Everyone is gathering in the Fairy Tail."He heard a gasp and then shuffling from the other end of the phone. "I can be there in 20 minutes." He heard her say.
"No!" Natsu shouted. "No, stay where you are, I'm on my way."
"I can make it to the guild on my own, don't worry, I'll see you there." Lucy brushed him off.
"Lucy, please. We don't know what they want, or why they attacked us. Just stay put and I'll be there in 10." It wasn't like him to be reasonable, but he found himself feeling and acting all sorts of ways since meeting the blonde.
It's an odd thing, to be mindful and think things through.
It was the use of her name as opposed to the nickname name he insisted on calling her, and the grave, almost pleading tone in his voice that got her to agree.
"Just hurry up, I want to see Levy. I can't believe someone would do something like this." Natsu finally got to the edge of the woods and made his way to Lucy's apartment. "Don't worry Luce, we'll get them! Now stay where you are, I'm on my way."
He heard her small 'Okay' as they disconnected the call.
Turning around, Natsu grabbed Happy, hiding him under his jacket, and continued to race towards Lucy.
He realized something was wrong the second he was outside of her apartment. The smell of magic was in the air and Natsu knew, somehow, that he wouldn't find Lucy inside.
He went in anyway and found the whole place a mess. Happy flew out of his coat and looked around the apartment with him, searching for answers.
The rooms were flooded, drawers opened and the contents were scattered everywhere. There were obvious signs of a struggle in the bedroom.
He could smell Lucy and her residual magic, along with a scent he wasn't familiar with. It was odd, almost like when you approach a lake, mixed with the smell of rain.
Cursing Natsu tried to rein his anger before he set fire to Lucy's apartment.
He gave himself one minute to control his emotions before he jumped out Lucy's window and ran to the guild, leaving Happy behind in his haste.
He made his way there in record time, almost positive he knocked over a couple of civilians, but he couldn't bother with that now.
Bursting through the guild doors, the wood hit the wall with a bang, making everyone present look at him, panting and eyes wild.
"They took Lucy."
