Look, I love how people are pointing out Caitlyn’s rage and grief and how it is influencing her actions - but let’s also not forget how powerful of a motivator fear is and how I think that is actually the main driving factor under the grief and anger.

Like Jinx broke into Caitlyn’s room and kidnapped her

Caitlyn was genuinely scared that Vi would kill her or that Jinx would

Caitlyn WATCHED Jinx shoot at the council building, where she knew her mother was. In that moment she probably was feeling fear more than grief because that is just a terrifying thing to see and to imagine the carnage

And that’s just Season 1!

Now we have Season 2 where once again Caitlyn is shown there is no safety in Piltover when a memorial is attacked! That’s scary! No where feels safe for her anymore - physically or emotionally (not going to go into the fear of having to always put up a “brave front” which she is 100% doing). I mean babygirl was HYPERVENTILATING when she thought she saw Jinx in the arcane. She is not okay. She is terrified.

And the cherry on top of the cupcake - Caitlyn probably feels betrayed by Vi. She wasn’t thinking rationally and Vi was 100% right to intervene (I mean we see how much an accidental child death fucked up Jayce and I a) do think she would have accidentally missed and hurt the kid and b) would never live with herself after it) - but in that moment Caitlyn probably felt fear that she couldn’t trust anyone and that she had been betrayed.

And what do you do when you’re scared? You try to find safety. You try to make yourself bigger and badder than the thing that scares you, maybe even try to eradicate the thing that scares you, so it can’t hurt you anymore.

tl;dr - yeah grief and rage but I am so so so much more interested in Caitlyn’s fear and I really do think/hope that we see it deconstructed in the next two acts

the thing that drives me sooo crazy about the jinx/isha/cait/vi confrontation is that for vi, it was a lose-lose situation. either caitlyn misses & accidentally hits isha (child witnesses enforcer violence), or caitlyn kills jinx in front of a child who cares for her (child STILL witnesses enforcer violence). Either situation parallels vi’s own past trauma. In that moment, it wasnt about jinx (at least not entirely). It was about vi’s catalyst for violent change about to be recreated and forced upon this child. Caitlyn said she understood how vi felt seeing her parents die, but demonstrated in this moment that she doesnt and literally CANT. caitlyn has never been on the other side or enforcer violence. the child didnt even compute to her—isha was just an obstacle to be avoided, not a person that will carry this experience forever. But vi’s been on the wrong end of a gun. She understood that no matter what, no matter who got hit, if she allowed caitlyn to shoot, vi would be recreating her own trauma. Fun Fact: when Caitlyn used the Grey to help catch Jinx, that was chemical warfare. The death of a parent will obviously fuck you up, but girlie is committing war crimes.

I saw some people pissed by Agatha not getting a redemption arc at the end of the series, but the real reason is: she shouldn't get one.

She killed so many witches and did terrible things and nothing is going to change that at the end of the day.

I think what they gave us is so much stronger, you see how she’s filled with trauma and can't make herself trust anyone besides herself and her son.

She doesn’t kill witches, because she feels like. She’s a succumbs, she needs the energy in order to survive and that’s something her mother could never understand.

After she figured out how to control her powers I’m sure she could have joined a coven and she’d receive help from them.

But who would trust a kind of witch who has a defense as an attack? And how could Agatha trust anyone after her own coven and mother tried to kill her?

Redemption arcs are more times than not extremely forced, people’s actions shouldn’t be forgiven by a single action. They made us understand Agatha as a whole character, with flaws, traumas and depth and know that, ultimately, her life lead her into doing terrible things, that have no excuse.
