You'd think a parent who doesn’t see his child that often would have wanted to spend every single second with them. Make every second count. You'd expect a parent of a 7 year old, flown to the other side of the world to see you for a few days, to stay sober while having sole custody of his kid. You'd think the parent would want to experience the countdown to midnight with his son, seeing the childish joy in his sons eyes watching the fireworks. Children grow so fast and these are precious moments. You'd also think that if he wasn't a father that he'd at least pretend to be interested in being around his son and for him to understand that it would be a bad look to go to the pub and drink while his supposed child is visiting. But then again if the house was filled with Cla*ks for the holidays in order to keep up the scam, a scam he never wanted to be a part of in the first place, i'd also rather be at the pub and get drunk...
