Imagine my excitement and then brutal disappointment when Amazon’s algorithm recommended this book and it did not turn out to be some sort of bizarro Wild West AU involving Louis-Nicolas Davout.
I’d pay good money to see that tho.

Book Recommendation: Ride the River by Louis L'Amore.
One of his Sackett books, a Western series that revolves around the Sackett family, which is made up of gunslingers and cowboys, that always help a person in need. Great, fun books.
Ride the River is my favorite because it is the only Sackett book from the point of view of a female Sackett. And it's done so well.
Echo Sackett is a such an awesome character. Because she is very much a Sackett, down to her bones. She is somewhat feral teenage girl from the mountains, going to the big city for the first time, in the late 1800s. She is a respectable and proper young lady, with a dress and bonnet, a pistol in her reticle, a knife strapped to her leg and a rifle in her carpet bag.
The best thing about Echo is she doesn't advertise her skills. She is quiet about it, because prouper young ladies don't shoot, stab and pistol-whip their way through a gang of thieves, and they certainly can't outshoot any man. I love how dignified she is, and how she also takes no shit. If a man acts condescending to her, she just smiles and nods, because to her, he's not worth it. She doesn't care what some man has to say, and doesn't bother correcting misconceptions. She shoots a thief trying to steal from her, then shrugs and tells the male lead she has no idea what happened. She is such a fascinating character.
Anyway, go read Ride the River, because it's great. The audiobook is excellent too.

Risuko, My Father, and Toxic Masculinity
I’ll tell yeh, Bright Eyes. Men and women? A bloody mess. Every single time. — Kee Sun on sex and gender, Risuko Is “toxic masculinity” just a way of saying men are toxic? I get asked a lot about why I decided to write about young women in my Seasons of the Sword novels. There are lots of reasons. But an online conversation I was part of recently made one of them very clear to me. In the…

Name a piece of media you think few people have seen that needs a fandom
Mine is the shadow riders, a movie based off a louis lamour book. Bunch of big names in it
Some people in fandom desperately need to become obsessed with something SUPER niche and obscure. Something with like 10 active fans at the very most. Something with only 6 fics if you're very lucky, all but one written by the same dedicated fan. Something where when you do find a fan account, it's been innactive for years. Something that's not available on streaming and its only physical release was never released in your country. Let it humble you.

Because her stitches and threads look like lines of schizophrenic genetic code....
My mother did not have these de novo mutations she learned home economics
Only the military may create these characters....or you have to wait for has been material to filter into the public world
Ruby brown a western character for a thief...or CIA
The aggressive ones require a racist....
Westerns like Cochise or Louis Lamour.....the natives are a target for a character and they move around like a negative metaphor or hyenas....instead of also having western names
Trying to turn homelessness into a street job is always so flamboyant.....

also idk. it's such a nice day in July. He'd be so happy if he had a cigar and a beer right now. I can't feel sad today because I know he's not in pain anymore. I have a picture of him (printed in the newspaper in like 1998) sitting in a lawn chair, reading a book (probably a Louis Lamour) and drinking a beer. if heavens real that's exactly what he's doing today. I'm able to be happy cause he's happy. he doesn't have cancer anymore. it's july and he can have a joint if he wants to.

Most of these exist.
Nicepunk: See also: Solarpunk. See also: Pokemon.
Eastern Orthodox Fantasy: You... mean any fantasy novel that takes place in Slavic regions?
Old Adult: You mean Louis Lamour and biographies of Abraham Lincoln?
Not-Racist Cosmic Horror: LOTS of this around. May I direct you to Fallen London/Sunless Seas/Sunless Skies?
Ahistorical Romance: That's 99% of supposedly "historical" romance. DO YOUR RESEARCH, PEOPLE.
Political Snoozer: Left Behind series.
Erotic Mystery: Exists.
Rock-Hard SciFi: Exists.
Smileglad: Hallmark Channel.
Nasty Fiction: Most of what Eraserhead Press puts out would probably qualify.
Penis Books: Now you're not even trying.
Eagerly awaiting Yiffbong, though.
Due to the exciting successes of 'weird horror' and 'hopepunk', we're happy to announce a new slate of literary genres for release in Q3 2023. From now on you can expect to start seeing marketing TikToks and insufferable thinkpieces responding to marketing TikToks about:
Nicepunk
Eastern Orthodox Fantasy
Old Adult
Cosmic Horror But Without The Racist Parts
Yiffbong
Ahistorical Romance
Political Snoozer
Erotic Mystery
How Does This Have A Netflix Show It Just Came Out?
Mormon Realism
Dog Isekai
Shampoo Ad Novelization
Rock-hard SciFi
Smileglad
Nasty Fiction
Cosmic Horror But It's Only The Racist Parts
'The Scottish Genre'
Penis Books

"Do not let yourself be bothered by the inconsequential. One has only so much time in the world, so devote to the work and the people most important to you, to those you love and things that matter. One can waste half a lifetime with people one doesn't really like, or doing things where one would be better off somewhere else."

What are two facts about yourself that are true, but also seem contradictory? What do you dream about? Black ballpoint pen, sharpie or glitter gel pen?
i don’t really know what kind of question that is…so i’ll circle back
yes I’m gonna tell the library dream story. once I had a dream that I was stuck in an old library, and the building was absolutely beautiful and it all had much potential and for some reason, I HAD to be in this library (idk it was dream logic). So I decided that I would create the most beautiful library in this space. The only problem was the old people. They were everywhere and I cannot stress this enough: THEY DID NOT LET ME CHANGE ANYTHING. like I tried to move ONE BOOK and an old man with a cane would show up and say some shit like “why’s a young girl like you wanna waste your time working? Here have some ice cream.” And then I would say no thanks but they would all keep asking me to stop working! And it’s important to note that I kept trying to order books for this library and the old people did want new books, they wanted the books that they had. But the only books they had were louis lamour books. Like literally every shelf had one single book on it and it was always a goddamn louis lamour book. this dream also borders on a nightmare because of the anxiety I felt upon waking up. and there was no conclusion to the dream either, so somewhere in my subconscious there’s a hell library with old people and bad western novels. maybe that’s my true but contradictory traits. I have an incessant need to do things, but I’m actually too lazy to do anything. 🤷‍♀️ realistically, I’m a black ballpoint pen, because it’s professional and universal and convenient, but I like to think I could be the kind of girl who uses a glitter gel pen to sign stuff.
