Look, we all agree that Aragorn is hot.
Viggo Mortensen is absolutely a handsome man, but his character in Eastern Promises doesn't have most of the global population ripping their hair out foaming at the mouth screaming crying throwing up horny.
It's something about the combination of long hair, stubble, a mysterious past, quiet confidence, and looking like you've just been riding a horse for 2 weeks, that drives people crazy.
We will call this phenomenon The Aragorn Effect. My theory is that if all those same elements are combined with the correct proportions, any actor may be able to experience The Aragon Effect.
In 1989 movie Roadhouse Sam Elliot plays a veteran bouncer who is asked by Patrick Swayze to assist in a particularly difficult bar. He 1. Has Long hair 2. Has Stubble 3. Looks like he eats cigarettes. In this essay

Roadhouse is an interesting movie because its plot feels like a Chuck Norris direct to VHS I'd watch TV reruns of in Italian on my grandmother's TV (universal experience) but the actual execution is somehow more sophisticated than that in a way I just can't put my finger on.
I say this with full understanding that this is a movie where one of the goons (this is also a goon movie by the way) commutes via monster truck: Roadhouse is much more sophisticated than it has any right to be. Maybe it's Swayze moving like a dancer through all his fights, maybe its the themes of temptation and the honorable man,or maybe it's just a solid movie with a basic plot, but Roadhouse worked for me.
It's not a complicated film, basically playing out the classic western "Lawman comes in to clean up a town and defeat the corrupt leader's racket" but in the context of a local dive bar they're trying to make respectable and safe. Even still, maybe through the depiction of the barroom bouncer as being very polite and attempting deescalation when dealing with unruly customers before resulting to force, or maybe through Sam Elliot being a little harlot all throughout, this movie charmed me.
It's probably Sam Elliot being a little thottie in this that got me. When he came onscreen every female in the theater literally gasped. He's just that delicious in this.

FROGS (1972) Reviews of nature-fights-back eco-horror
‘A tidal wave of slithering, slimy horror devouring, destroying all in its path!’ Frogs is a 1972 American ecological horror film directed by George McCowan from a screenplay written by Robert Hutchison and Robert Blees. The soundtrack score was provided by Les Baxter. The film falls into the “eco-horror” category since it tells the story of an upper-class US Southern family that is attacked by…

There's only so much hush money trial coverage or SCOTUS arguments (audio-only) that I can endure, especially when it involves a lot of posturing and lying by hyper-conservatives in positions of absolute power. So...
I plucked this movie - Hannie Caulder - out of my Plex account for diversion. A 1971 Western which can't even reach the status of 'spaghetti', but 90 minutes of Raquel Welch tipped the scales. A highlight was seeing the trio of Ernest Borgnine, Strother Martin, and Jack Elam as bad guy brothers. Very little acting abilities displayed but a lot of camp.
Robert Culp was a strange choice to play lead in a Western but he didn't disgrace himself.
The movie is certainly dated but enjoyable, despite a contrived, mysterious ending.
I turned my movie day into a double feature with The Shadow Riders, chosen because the twin leads were Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot, both nearly unrecognizable in this 1982 oater. Katharine Ross provides the love interest. Dominique Dunne had a role shortly before she was murdered.
I was struck by how both movies utilized music to direct the audience's mood. There was nothing subtle about the soundtracks.
I think I'll conclude my Western viewing today with Quigley Down Under. I've seen this one before but I'd like to re-visit my all-time favourite villain -- Alan Rickman.
You can probably tell I love being retired.
