I know this is super random and like a year late, but as the consummate marichat fan, what were your thoughts on Elation?

first of all, apparently there are two definitions of the word “consummate” and until now i only knew the first one. HDNSND

second, i have many thoughts about elation but they are honestly kind of mixed and jumbled!!! On one hand, WHAT AN EPISODE!!!!! it still feels like a fever dream lmao. marichat fell in love and went on a cute little date and he took her up way in the sky with his baton carrying her princess style and then they tango’d over to andre’s and wanted to get Love ice cream and then they had the CUTEST KISS EVER!!!!! nose kiss cheek kiss lip kiss combo are you kidding. Are you KIDDING me. then he was trying to be respectful and not take advantage??? 😭 and she got AKUMATIZED bc she wanted to keep kissing him so bad??? HDJDJD and then the angsty second kiss to break her free omfggggggg people died (im people). the little moment at the end too when they agree to go their separate ways but hug like good friends who are in love. Waaaaa my heart. It was all really really good. I loved it. When I first watched it I kept having to pause and pace around like a madman fhsndn

On the other hand, it was so different from my personal vision of marichat that I wasn’t totally sure how to feel! The essence Marichat to me has always been a friends-to-lovers slowburn, so “sin ship” stuff or fics where they very quickly fall into a relationship against their better judgment have never been my cup of tea. And this episode felt like sort of a tamer, canon-appropriate version of that? It came on so fast and was over just as quickly. marichat ended up being just a one-night fling, basically. which is fine because I i always figured it wouldn’t play a big role in the plot—we got wayyyy more marichat than I ever expected to get! So I’m grateful! I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth haha. But at the same time I couldn’t help but feel sort of disappointed in how it all played out. because while I’ve always been rooting for reverse crush development, I never truly wanted a “love square flip” in the sense of them completely switching love interests from ladrien to marichat. That idea never felt super authentic to the characters to me. I feel like OG crush is so baked in to the love square, you know? This probably sounds rich coming from such a loud annoying marichat stan lmao but I always think of them as still being partly in love with OG crush underneath it all, even if marichat are together.

Anyway, i guess I just had a hard time processing it at all because I had a very specific vision/preference for how I wanted the love square to play out—which was basically, reverse crush develops simultaneously with OG crush and they have to figure out how to deal with being in love with two people at once, and then at the reveal they get the relief of knowing it was always the same person all along, and of course they fell for them twice. Idk to me that would be the most satisfying culmination of the love square—one of the most interesting romantic plot elements I’ve ever seen! And that’s not how the show writers decided to go. Which is OK. We got so much good love square and there will be more to come. I really have been trying to let go of what was always just my personal preference for the LS. But at the time I couldn’t help but feel it was sort of wasting a lot of potential by going in this direction. And that did kind of sour my experience watching elation. marichat was set up and discarded so quickly, as if to both satisfy the fans and also shut them up lol. like “here, you got your marichat, you animals. and now that door is permanently closed bc we just proved how it would never work.” Hahaha. And tbh maybe that was a necessity! Like the closure of that possibility.

All in all elation was an amazing episode. It just made me sort of sad at the end, watching marichat die within minutes of becoming canon. also at the time there were a bunch of marichat stans being kind of obnoxious and salting on ladrien which also dampened the mood a lot for me. So I felt weirdly sad for a while after watching it, even tho it was such an exciting ride that I’d been looking forward to. I guess I just keep thinking “yes this is what I wanted!! …except not like this tbh”

lol I’m so entitled Im sorry….we ate SO good. Elation will always be iconic. Weredad is still my all-time favorite episode though! :)

What is your favorite ship? Why?

in all honesty, I think the four sides of the lovesquare are tied to me

Ladynoir - because of their banter, their partnership, they have each other as the superhero duo and Ladybug slowly falling for Chat is always *chef's kiss*

Marichat - because of their easy friendship, the hurt/comfort, they understand each other from a lot of different things and don't question much and both know unrequited love

Adrienette - Adrien is oblivious af but loves Mari all the same, he's always amazed by her and protects her at all cost, and even tho Mari can be obsessive sometimes, she really does care for Adrien a lot and listens to him

Ladrien - they are cute af, always flustered and trying not to act how they're used to act with each other, they love each other madly and trust each other implicitly and seriously they're cute af

if I really had to pick one I guess I'd choose marichat bc at the beginning that was my favorite and bc I relate more to developing feelings after getting to know someone real good, never been in love with someone I just met or barely know, so there you go 😅

(now that i think about it that's also maybe why I tend to also read a lot of ladynoir, I guess those two would be my favorites, I identify with Marinette slowly falling for Chat once she gets to know him lol)

Lord, I'm tired of "which ship is better" between the LS dynamics. They're the same people.

I was never a huge LS shipper. I was always either indifferent at best and annoyed at the decisions they made at most because some stuff would be done so much easier if either character took more incentive. Like, a lot of it is explained away as plot decisions, but thats neither here nor there.

I think the reason why people think it was a bad idea that Adrienette was paired now was because it feels too rushed... No, it wasn't. It feels rushed to you because all you saw was the stumbling on the words and longing stares. I guess in these people's eyes, they didn't hang out platonically enough.

I'm still indifferent to the LS in general. I find the Adrienette scenes cute, but arguing over which dynamic is best is just pointless blowing of air. Just write something if you're not happy with how something's going in the show.

You probably get asks like this all the time, so I apologize if this is kinda redundant, I just see the salt everywhere and it's just aggravating

No worries. It's valid to be frustrated with the fandom. I've always found arguments over which side is better to be moot because one side isn't better. Which side people like more is a matter of preference, but in the end, they're the same two people, so no side is intrinsically better or worse than another. It's reductive to think of the square that way, and it misses the point behind the square. I think of all the MC stans that like to post rankings of each side in the ladrien tag, and they always rank ladrien last for being boring or toxic or whatever. I think ranking them is dumb. Have a favorite, sure, but don't put down the other sides that makes no sense lol.

In the case of Adrinette "not being close friends" I'd agree, it's fundamentally misunderstanding their canon interactions. It gives the same energy as people who claimed Ladrien is only capable of standing and blushing around each other. Not only is it an intentionally shallow interpretation of their dynamic, it's also directly disproven in canon every time they come on screen. In Adrinette's case, yes, Marinette consistently fumbles around him, but she has always shown to calm down in the face of something serious. In Gorizilla, she runs around with him all day and talks to him normally because they have other shit going on. Her stammering always related to thinking of him romantically, but they have had numerous platonic interactions where she could talk to him fine, and in most of those interactions, Adrien confided in her. His trust of her has been building over each season. S1 we had the umbrella scene when he confessed he didn't have friends, we also had gamer when he expressed insecurity in his ability compared to her. S2 had a bunch, Gorizilla, Frozer, Mayura. He gave a whole fucking speech about how he was happy they were friends in Mayura. S3 we have Chameleon, Puppeteer 2, he stood up for her in Ladybug, he and Kagami begged her to run away with them in Heart Hunter.

He and Marinette have always been friends, and they have been making small strides each season. That's why she went from "just a friend" to "a very good friend" to "someone special to me." Adrien has been giving us check ins on their friendship since day 1. Their development was slower and more gradual than LN, and of course they're not as comfortable with each other as LN, but that's the point of s5. They're working through their issues. They just so happen to be doing it romantically. And to say that their love isn't as deserving because they're not entirely thick as thieves is a very narrow view of love. Just because adrinette isn't the best friends side at the beginning of s5 doesn't mean they don't deserve to be together if they want to be?? I know plenty of people irl who have best friends of the opposite gender that date people they're not as close to instead. The point of dating is to get closer to people, and that's what is happening in canon. Adrien said it himself in Transmission that he wanted things to be different with Marinette. He can't share his true feelings with anyone else because they don't understand and only see a marketing image. And we have seen that this season with people consistently brushing off their feelings in favor of their own ideas. Adrien and Marinette fall back on each other, and have been figuring out how to be an effective couple that meets each others needs. And that's incredibly sweet, and I think it's worth showing. Lots of cartoons paint this idealized version of love and put it up on a pedestal as a prize to be won. I think if this season ended with them revealing their identities and getting together, it would be perpetuating just that. That love is a prize to be won in the end, then after that you live happily ever after. But they stuck adrinette together mid season and are giving us a half season where they bumble around and figure love out. Their story isn't over just because they are together. Relationships are complicated and take work, and I appreciate that message from canon.

I think people are just looking for excuses to justify their anger, so they are twisting their interpretation of canon to suit their needs. It's a very common strategy among salters, I've seen it plenty of times. They find vague at best "evidence" of their claims that ignores tons of context and other instances that disprove their arguments. It's not new to me, honestly. I do actually feel kind of bad for them though. Sitting at home all angry and missing out on the absolute bliss that is romantic Adrinette. What a miserable existence./j

Adrienette

I love Adrienette now, but not season 1-4 Adrienette. I love their interactions but hate how it took us all those years to finally get it. Marinette being her usual cringe self and worried that it’ll make her seem unlikeable, and Adrien right behind her absolutely smitten. She brings out the clumsy gets-stuck-in-doorways Adrien and he brings out her I’ll-fistfight-your-dad-in-a-Wendy’s-parking-lot Marinette.

Even when it was Marinette and Chat Noir, they were cute and utterly hilarious (“CHAT NOIR??!!” “*hastened whistling*”), and the dynamic shift that came with Ladynoire and Mr. Bug made that one my favourite episode. And even if we didn’t get Ladrien this season, I’m sure they would’ve jazzed it up too.

Though, it could’ve been mixed up a bit better. Like, I didn’t get much more than a “general acquaintanceship” vibe from them two (sans LadyNoir) until season 5. They didn’t hang out as friends, and when they did, was it really a hang out or did the entire class decide to go to the Couffaine boat/get Adrienette together/do something together? It was more like they were around each other and Marinette had a debilitating crush on Adrien. Season 1-4 was mainly LadyNoir without much for the other sides. Admittedly, even in season 5 there was that time they did hang out as friends pre-relationship (Illusion), but like… one (1) episode.

Their progression to relationship was really nice though and is what won me over. Adrien falls in love with her and is totally ok with that, has already come to terms with it and everything; meanwhile Marinette doesn’t want to love him anymore so she tries to fall in love with *checks notes* him-as-a-cat to get away from her terrible, horrible, world-ending crush. It was all hilarious and I’m a sucker for rom-coms lol.

Just wish they could’ve had more interactions as platonic!Adrienette before their romance.

why ladynoir is the best corner of the love square (in my humble opinion)

!! slight s5 spoiler warning !!

so recently, wathcing season five, i've been thinking a lot of about ladynoir. ladynoir has always been my personal favorite ship in the love square, but i never felt any need to justify that opinion other than i enjoy their banter and dynamic. however, given the recent love square flip, i starting looking at the ships through a more critical lense.

don't get me wrong, i was so excited for the love square reversal. i have been a part of this fandom for about five years now, so it was highly anticipated. however, as adrien and marinette became a couple, i found myself not rooting for them as much as a thought i would. i tried so hard to like them as a couple, but it felt weird for some reason, and i couldn't put my finger on why.

then it hit me, i didn't feel satisfied with adrienette as a canon couple, because despite the six plus years the show has been running, it doesn't feel earned (i will explain my reasoning behind this later). and thinking on this and why i felt this way lead me to analyze each corner of the love square, and long story short, came to the realization of why i've always loved ladynoir the most, and why i feel they are the best ship in the show.

now i'm going to break down each ship as to why or why not it doesn't work in the show. keep in mind, this is merely my own opinion, and you can disagree with what i say.

ladrien:

this is generally regarded as the least popular ship in the series, both by the fandom and the writers. despite being the mutual ship for four seasons, it barely received any screen time. on the rare occasion that they interacted, it was awkward and a little painful to watch. i partly blame this on the way marinette's character is written (i could write a whole other dissertation on why i dislike her character and what the writer's have done to her, but i don't believe that necessary.) in summary, marinette is an obsessed stalker who cannot act like a normal human being in front of adrien. adrien is also not exempt to weird behavior around his crush, he tends to ignore boundaries and be overbearing in his pursuit of ladybug, but it rarely gets as bad as marinette, and he usually receives some sort of reprimand for it, discouraging this behavior (i could also go on another rant on the disparity between the way each character's toxic behavior is treated in the show, but again, that's not the point of this post). somehow, they have the least amount of chemistry as ladybug and adrien, and it just is weird and awkward. this is probably why they aren't given much screen time, but in depriving them of that, they aren't given any chances to overcome that awkwardness or develop as characters or a couple. they have no relationship as adrien and ladybug. they're practically strangers (ignoring the fact that they do know each other--secret identities and all)

adrienette:

adrienette is a very popular ship, and i can see why (i, myself, had an adrienette phase a couple years ago). they make the most sense within the show, two teenagers dating isn't as high risk as a superhero and a teenager dating or a two superheroes dating. they also get the most screen time. the writers absolutely love adrienette lol. there is so much of it in the show. so much. and in a way, that makes sense, too. the ships that get the most screen time (adrienette and ladynoir), are the only ones that have reasons within the show to hang out together. of course the two superheroes would be togheter, and of course mari and adrien would run into each other at school. ladrien and marichat would have a harder time coming up with a natural way to get the pair together (it could be done, but the show hasn't done so). however, the thing that ruins the ship is...marinette. she is absolutely obsessed with adrien. it's not cute or funny, it's cringey and toxic. it makes it hard to want them together when she's breaking into his house, has his entire schedule memorizes, tracks him on her phone, and goes to extreme measures to prevent him from talking with other girls. that's the main issue with the ship, but that's not the primary issue that i'm discussing. marinette's behavior is a larger problem within the show, but now that adrienette is canon, another issue within the ship is glaring. adrien and marinette barely know each other. i mean, outside of her stalking, has marinette really had a chance to get to know him? not really. they've had a few moments, but most of the time, when the two are alone (which is extremely rare. they are almost always accompanied by other characters), they are hardly able to have a normal converation. marinette babbles and trips all over herself, and that's that. they don't have a strong friendship. adrien hardly knows marinette as a person, why should he fall in love with her? why should they become a couple so fast? i don't have a problem with adrienette becoming canon, it's only that it happened so quickly. let them become friends first, able to have more heart-to-heart conversations first. get to know each other first! it just doesn't feel like they've earned it.

marichat:

i know i said that ladynoir is the best ship, but in my opinion, the best ship should be marichat. narratively, it works the best for the story. as chat noir and marinette, each is their most vulnerable self. this is the version of themselves that they feel is the most authentic, the most flawed, but the most themself. it makes the most sense for them to start falling in love with these versions of each other, because, by doing so, they fully embrace who the other person is. however, this ship runs into the same problem that the others have. the pair doesn't have a solid relationship. despite having several episodes together, marinette and chat noir (in these forms) are not friends. they have no reason to be together, and they never seek each other out (except for elation). they end up together by happenstance, have some fun, but then ultimately part ways.

ladynoir:

marichat was rather short, but that was because it was going to start bleeding into my reasoning for ladynoir being the best ship. don't get me wrong, ladynoir has it's flaws, such as chat noir being too pushy, ladybug being too mean or unappreciative, but i see those more as problems with the writing then the characters or ship itself. but ladynoir is the best ship in the love square, because it's the only ship in which they two characters have a relationship outside of the love square. if the entire romantic plot of the show was erased, ladybug and chat noir would still be friends. best friends. they'd still be partners in (fighting) crime. they'd still know each other well, be able to read each other well, be able to make each other laugh. the other corners of the love square can't say the same. if there was no romance, marinette and adrien aren't friends, they're just in the same friend group. ladybug and adrien have zero relationship to each other. marinette and chat noir aren't friends, really. they wouldn't have any reason to interact meaningfully as these other pairs, because the only thing holding these pairs together is the romance. personally, i think it's essential for a good ship to also be platonic. they have to have had a relationship before being a couple. otherwise, why would they like each other, outside of attraction. you can't build a solid relationship based on attraction alone.

feel free to disagree with me, but this has been something that has been on my mind while watching the newest season. idk if i was able to properly communicate everything that i meant to, and it's a little unorganized, but i hope my meaning came across well. this post also spawned out of missing the old ladynoir banter/dynamic, and seeing a lot of people in the fandom realize how special what they had was :).

Ladybug’s Finale

Chapter 2

- didn’t expect this to get any attention, but appreciate it nonetheless!-

“Ladybug, remember to breathe.” Adrien spoke, slightly panicked. The heroine’s air of mystery and professionalism in her new suit was lost with her wheezing, bent over with hands on her knees.

“Oh my god I’m an idiot. Of course you’re Chat, same blonde hair, same eyes, nobody showers that much! How could I have never seen it?” Ladybug spoke rapidly, freaking out not because Chat was Adrien, someone she didn’t really know how to feel about, but how blind she was to it all.

“Are you upset?” Adrien looked downwards, not meeting her eyes.

“Yes! No? I’m feeling a lot.” She hadn’t felt this much in a while if she were honest with herself. Ever since Lila returned everything had been mildly numb. The panic in her heart and head felt familiar, and a tad comforting.

“Are you disappointed?”

Ladybug didn’t know how to answer. A few weeks ago, she would have been jumping for joy. But Chat was so pushy about his feelings he disregarded her own. Adrien didn’t want to disrupt the flow of the class, so he also wasn’t concerned with how she felt either. Regardless, she was cast aside.

She wasn’t disappointed that Chat was Adrien or vice versa, but maybe she was disappointed in them as a person.

She wanted so badly to reveal herself, if only to see what his reaction would be. To turn the question back on him. Instead, she squashed her curiosity. Revealing her identity now could be even more dangerous.

“If I’m honest, I don’t know how to feel about you,” she held back, watching her partner deflate, “I think I have to get to know you again. From scratch.”

Hope filled the boy’s eyes.

“I’m okay with that. Whatever makes you feel comfortable.”

Ladybug frowned. She had thought it was mostly due to her avoidance of Chat Noir, but he hadn’t called her a pet name all night. It seemed like he was holding back.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Anything Bug.”

“You don’t call me your Lady anymore.” Her face remained passive. “What’s up?”

She didn’t want to ask if he found someone. She didn’t want to ask if he had stopped loving her

Adrien blushed, cheeks finally uncovered to show how bashful he can be.

“I- you said-“ he stumbled, “I thought you didn’t like it.”

Ladybug hummed. She felt some relief flood into her body. She took a few steps to the edge of the roof and took a seat. Adrien followed suit.

“I didn’t like it in the middle of a fight.”

“I know, I act stupid sometimes-“

“No,” She turned to him, a flicker of feeling in her chest as she met his eyes. “Don’t apologize for acting like yourself. Just for the poor timing.”

Adrien smiled at that. He dug his hands into his pockets, squeezing his fingers.

“Honestly, it was Marinette that changed my mind.”

Ladybug choked on air.

“The bakery girl?”

“Multimouse, baker, class president, designer.” Adrien smiled, “She is a girl of many hats. Makes them too!”

She felt the lilt of smile struggle to surface. Adrien had always been Chat, silliness and all. Why hadn’t he shared that part of him? Or had she not seen it in a cloud of model perfection?

“What made her change your mind?”

“She wanted to stand up to this girl at our school, Lila. She isn’t mean like Chloe, but lies a lot.” Adrien’s brows furrowed. “To make friends, gain popularity, I don’t know really. But it drove Mari up a wall.”

Ladybug lifted her eyebrows. “Mari, huh? Guess I’m not the only one graced with nicknames.”

Adrien must have been getting cold, his cheeks were dusted with color.

“Marinette kept trying to call her out on it, Lila even lied to me too. You knew that though.” He recalled her outburst in the park. “She gets akumatized so often and it’s such a headache. I told Mari to let it go, since it wasn’t hurting anyone.”

Ladybug’s fingers felt cold. It started to climb up her arms and shoulders.

“Doesn’t it hurt her?” She spoke so softly, almost afraid to say it.

Adrien looked at the street below. Suddenly being so up high without his suit made him feel uneasy. He felt vulnerable.

“Lila has taken over the class. She almost got Marinette expelled, and would have too if I hadn’t threatened her.” Ladybug’s head snapped up. “She’s been using anything and everything to hang off me and use my father. She uses everyone.”

Adrien lifted his fist out of his pocket and slammed it onto the cold gutter. Ladybug didn’t jump.

“She makes me uncomfortable, she talks badly about my friend. She makes promises to the class with her lies and never follows through.” His father’s image flickered in his head, “People like that really are the worst aren’t they?”

He shook his hair out, enjoying the ends to curl up randomly instead of styled to perfection. It was weird to see him like that, like he had finally put down the front he’d been wearing.

“Anyways, Lila never took no for an answer. The only love I’ve know is from Chloe who was the same. They don’t care about my space, my feelings, my voice.” He looked up at his lady in red. “Mari probably felt the same about Lila. You probably felt the same about me.”

Ladybug felt confused. She didn’t want to let Adrien off the hook like that, but she could see he was learning about something he had no experience with.

“You care about this girl enough to threaten Rossi?” She chewed on her lip, trying to focus on one point of Adrien’s face as to not get overwhelmed.

“She’s the only one who has cared so much about other people’s feelings in our class. She talks through their problems, helps them with their projects, keeps them company when they don’t want to talk at all.” His eyes shone. It was so dark, but he may as well have been wearing his mask.

“And I let her down.” He sighed, “The least I could do is have her back.”

“Maybe, let her know you have it? So she doesn’t feel so..” Ladybug didn’t want to finish. Adrien nudged her shoulder with his own.

“So, did you learn anything new about me?”

Ladybug thought to herself.

“You’re more timid than you let on.” Adrien frowned at that response. “You’re more thoughtful too. You aren’t this boistroseous personality that you like to show off, and you feel more guilt than you probably should.”

“I can’t really tell if any of this is good or bad LB.”

“It doesn’t really have to be one or the other,” she decided, “it’s you. For me, that’s enough.”

“It’s getting late. And we haven’t talked about a plan.”

“Yeah,” Adrien looked toward the direction he came, “not feeling up to going home, yknow?”

“Your dad would be worried.”

“He doesn’t notice. I’d like to say his behavior is explained by being Hawkmoth, but he’s been like this since before superheroes and akumas. My mom’s disappearance really messed him up.” Adrien looked down at his hands.

“It messed you up too,” Ladybug defended, “and you didn’t become a supervillain.”

Adrien winced. She wanted to slap herself, it was too soon.

“Ladybug.” Adrien turned, “you have to take the Black Cat miraculous.”

Her jaw dropped.

“What? No.” She stood up. “Why would you even say that?”

“It’s not safe under that roof.”

“It is with you!”

“We can’t risk that.” Adrien dusted himself off, rising to meet her.

“I just can’t be without my partner Adrien. I won’t.” Her heart was beating so fast. Was he giving up?

“We’ll figure it out. You can leave it somewhere I can get it and transform.” Adrien paused. “That might be riskier actually.”

“So then keep it!” She wrapped her arms around herself, “you need to be there with me.”

Adrien smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

“We both know you’ve been able to handle akumas yourself for a while now.”

Adrien nodded, seeing the argument.

“Why not train with the old man then?”

Both heroes snapped towards the new voice. Plagg poked his head from Adrien’s hood.

“He could get better at his job, and Fu can hold the miraculous until he’s ready.” The small kwami looked unamused, as he always did, but Adrien hadn’t seen him this serious in...well ever.

“He already has a full schedule, when would he have the time?”

Adrien felt a little annoyed they spoke without him.

“You managed to get more free time, what did you do?” Plagg already knew the answer. He knew Ladybug was Marinette and he knew that humans were still to blind to see true value in one another.

Ladybug looked away, and pulled her hood down.

“I prioritized my responsibilities.”

“There you go!” Plagg turned to Adrien, “drop your friends.”

“No!” Ladybug protested. Adrien looked taken aback.

“Plagg that won’t fix things.”

“They don’t care about your friend, hanging out with them means hanging out with sausage hair, and its a few hours every week that you can dedicate to training.”

“Those are his friends!”

Plagg snapped to the heroine, green eyes ablaze. For a moment she was reminded that she’s talking to a god. One of destruction.

“Adrien, I know I haven’t been around in a few hundred years. But training was always put first. This isn’t a hobby you accepted. It’s a duty.” Plagg stared his chosen down. He let the kid have fun, but he can always whip him into shape.

“Ladybug, he’s right.”

She felt something twist inside her. Was it fair to have Adrien lose his friends too? They were everything to him.

Adrien read her mind.

“I needed them and school for a lot of reasons. I wanted to get away from my father and the constant supervision. Chat Noir isn’t a curse, it’s a freedom, and if I want to keep it and my friends and you, I have to work for it.” Adrien looked determined, like he wasn’t going to take no for answer. He slipped his ring off and handed it to his kwami.

“Send me an address in the morning. I don’t have a shoot so I’ll start my first lesson then.”

Plagg smiled, “I’m proud of you, kit.”

“What if you get into trouble?” Ladybug watched the exchanged helplessly.

“I’ll be as susceptible as anyone else.” He shrugged, “and you have my back.”

“What about your friends?”

Adrien grinned, wide and delighted.

“Guess I’ll move to the back.”

I honestly didn't even think to include Ladyspik cause I thought of it as Ladrien, but I admit that it is hypocritical of me considering I have Multichat and Ladyblanc in this poll. okay but. One of those aus where chaton turns into a cat except make it ladrien. An akuma turns people into cats for whatever reason and the only way to transform them back is with a forehead kith of true love (or at least ladybug thinks so) and she kisses the now cat chaton except. the one who is standing before her is Adrien Agreste. ladrienism ensues.

preface: I think wackus’s odnlb & piso’s runaway catwalker delve into very nuanced, thoughtful, and interesting facets & plotlines about cw's identity and how it interplays with ladybug or marinette, while I just kinda focus on. the shipping aspect.

so with that in mind, I went on a spiel. these two just tickle my brain:

Is it the same dyanmic? I think.... it's whatever it feels to you!! but here's how I see it:

I definitely think of it as “super ladrien” but not in a “putting ladrien down” way. I just agree that it does have the same aspects, but there’s something more like a total mix of ladrien and ladynoir, which sounds actually stupid typing out but. augh. that's how it comes across to me. because if chat's not chat, then it's total angst material, right? like, either he can't be there for her, or it's another Kuro Neko situation where he feels like he shouldn't be there. so yeah, it's still Adrien being in love with Ladybug, but it's also his Chat side hung up about something that's causing him to be CW.

(which is, as we know, him completely disguising himself as a perfect person; "who adrien is around gabriel or nathalie". that's a toll!!! because that's not him!! it's a facet. not what he should strive to be.)

there's something to be said about falling in love with the same person three times. If Marinette is running away from being in love with CN & Adrien (a la s4 & s5), and that causes a rift with both of them, and in swoops This Guy who checks all of Marinette's boxes for a "perfect partner" AND is physically attracted to him AND he's got aspects of both Adrien and Chat.... like no wonder she likes him, right?

(Additionally, I find this attraction really interesting because like. This Guy is totally new, right, and no one ends up knowing about him but her, from her POV, and she almost immediately falls for him. She almost immediately, for an interpretation up to you, asks about his family life. girl what!!) anyway. This Guy is actually her long term partner and crush, as we know, with a redoubled "I will protect you" effort.)

I think there's a ton of ways to play with this, because CW can be silly, just in lower or subdued doses. And I think Ladybug with CW is soooo into him but she's trying to keep it together, and you can write it where she fails and tries hitting on him, but like our girl Marinette is, she's all cringe and silly and loses her mind like when she tries hitting on Adrien. And then for CW, it would take a LOT of convincing or like. Ladybug nearly confessing to allow himself to break down enough as CW to express love/attraction back, yknow? Because CW isn't him, it isn't Adrien or Chat Noir and it's a huge lie to keep up for an extended period and so yknow. that's kinda fun and dangerous.

adrien didn’t fall in love with ladybug because she’s perfect. he saw her flaws and doubts and insecurities from day one.

literally the first time they met she crashed into him and admitted to being “madly clumsy,” and he immediately accepted that and encouraged her. then while he was trying to fight stoneheart alone, she was hesitating on the sidelines. she didn’t come help until alya called, “what are you waiting for, super red bug?”

then when they had to battle stoneheart again later, she was really discouraged and frustrated with herself because she had messed up, and she even said, “I knew I wasn’t the right one for this job.” And he reassured her and encouraged her and reminded her of what she had done right and made it clear that she wasn’t alone—that they were a team, and they had to trust each other. It was only then—after showing her vulnerability to Chat Noir—that Ladybug was able to stand up to Hawkmoth with that inspirational speech. And it was only then that Chat Noir said, “Whoever she is under that mask, I love that girl.”

He didn’t fall for her because she was flawless. He fell for her because she had flaws and still tried her hardest because she knew it was the right thing to do. He didn’t fall for her because she was fearless. He fell for her because she had fears and chose to face them because people needed her. He didn’t fall for her because she because she was self-assured. He fell for her because she showed that she had doubts and insecurities and she still chose to step up and make a stand against evil. And isn’t that what real courage is? “Not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment something else is more important than fear.”

tldr; adrien loves ladybug not because she’s perfect but because she is brave enough to face and work past her imperfections

Are you planning more Ladrien fics?

Kind of? Ladrien is my favorite side of the lovesquare, and I do have a couple ideas for Ladrien fics in my head, but no really concrete plans for them yet. Eventually, there’ll be an accidental confession fic, a Goddess/Priest AU, and I keep thinking about doing a Ladrien time travel fic, since there are so many like that for the other sides of the square. But I have a lot of WIPs right now, so who knows when I’ll get the chance to finish my next Ladrien story!
