Yet another example of the Crane Wives being very life series codedā¦
Donāt think about how Canāt Go Back by The Crane Wives fits Double Life Ranchers like a glove
Donāt think about how:
Could be Jimmy saying āItās not fair,ā and Tango telling him whatās in parentheses.
Donāt think about Jimmy and Tango left in a Void that smells faintly of burnt wood.
Donāt think about Jimmy calling out for his soulmate, like a canary calling to the miner.
Donāt think Donāt think DONāT THINK DONāT THINK
(so writing a fic about these angst-filled boys)
#oooooooffftttt#I could rant about song lyrics that fit life seires FOREVER#Iāve got so many#lots of crane wives but also bunch of others#double life smp#rancher duo#Ooft#crane wives#crane lives

Content. Warning. (Poison)
Hazbin Hotel has a predicament that I havenāt really come across anywhere else. The episode that I would use to recommend this series is also the episode that I would use to recommend people away.
I would recommend another tale for the characters and the storyline and how the writers weaved in a dissection of subject matter more nuanced than I expected. But Hazbin Hotel is, in my opinion, at its best when it deals with that material front and centre.
Thereās a reason I have titled this post what I have. Episode four of this series isnāt shy about what itās talking about. But thereās an interesting difference between the idea of something being subtle and something being nuanced, and thereās also another weird thing about this episode and especially the first song contained therein.
Masquerade feels like it is written by a comedian, and I mean that in the most straight faced, complimentary way possible.
Let me explain.
CONTENT WARNING: (Mention of Abuse, Mental Health, Sexual Assault, Addiction, Bodily Harm)
SPOILERS AHEAD: (Hazbin Hotel, Six)
I am an absolutely awful judge of the cultural zeitgeist, but I have observed that the music I like rarely gets described as āpopā. Partially, this is because I see a bunch of people liking a specific thing and I walk in the opposite direction, but partially this is because my musical taste isnāt limited to any specific genre.
My main musical tastes are centred around the emotionality of the song, rather than the musical distinctions. I will look at Harry Stylesā Watermelon Sugar and think itās nice to listen to, but I will gravitate towards Olivia Rodrigoās Vampire because of the emotional journey that song takes me on. The former of those two makes you want to dance; the latter makes you want to shout your rage at the sky.
Naturally, this leads me to ballads, songs that tell a story. The Crane Wives are particularly good at these, Curses is the archetypical example of a tale of personal guilt. But, for the sake of a constant thematic, letās talk about Bitter Medicine for a moment.
āI bite my tongue to keep the worst of the words in So they donāt hurt nobody but me Swallow the poison I wanna spit Bitter medicine I think itās making me sick Donāt look up to me Iām not as tall as you think You see, I talk a big game But itās bullshitā
Bitter medicine is about bad coping mechanisms, kind of. The Crane Wives excels at exploring powerful emotions but leaves the scenarios open to interpretation. Itās not how you got here that matters, but where āhereā is.
This is why the same few of their songs have gained popularity in Asexual spaces as well as in spaces for those recovering from their own actions. Reformed abusers and aces donāt tend to share much, except for a feeling of guilt.
Itās an unfortunate part of the ace experience that the realising of who you are feels like a betrayal. It feels like you have strung someone along with promises you canāt keep. Iāve been there, and it feels awful.
I do want to stress that this isnāt betrayal in reality. Being ace does not make you a bad person, you havenāt actually strung someone along. You are valid, end of argument.
The issue is that the mind isnāt always a rational thing. Sometimes it internalises things in an unhealthy way. Odds are the partner who you think you betrayed wouldnāt agree with you on that. People that like you have a habit of supporting you.
Essentially, part of being ace is that self-imposed guilt. Not every ace goes through it, but for those who do, that feeling is difficult to overcome.
But that idea of being the reason a relationship fallen apart has a lot of other applicable situations, hence the diversity of popularity.
Bitter Medicine isnāt about that, its about guilt for feeling bad. Its about the type of trauma response that is selfishness masquerading as selflessness.
The emotion on display is pain, with a song about bottling up everything until it explodes. You canāt be angry, you canāt be sad, you canāt let people help you because "thereās nothing wrong". You just have to keep things tight to your chest and let other people suffer. This is a song about becoming distant from those who can see you hurting and canāt do anything to help you.
It's about how bad coping mechanisms act as a poison that canāt be escaped, almost like an addiction.
The music video centres around the idea of others getting caught up in the crossfire of internal emotions. Itās monochromatic so you can see the stains left behind even more starkly, and those stains get everywhere. The protagonist has to be rescued by these others, but she has to let them.
You will notice that ballads donāt usually tell you the events of their stories. Everything is a metaphor; everything is a symbol. Sometimes a song will tell you outright whatās going on. Thatās a strength of the medium, not a plot hole.
Which leads me to a song called Poison, a ballad that is entirely centred around the metaphor of its title.
Poison was written by Alice Cooper (with help from Desmond Child and John McCurry) and released in 1989 as a single, and it is surreal.
Itās about Cooperās alcohol and drug addictions, which is weird considering the lyrics are ostensibly about someone heās in a relationship with, and thatās the point.
The song depicts Cooperās addiction as an abusive relationship, dedicating the song to that part. Itās singing to āyouā, as if heās in conversation with it, telling it to its face all the damage that he has taken.
This is personification, ascribing a will to an inanimate object, although its more than that. In this case, itās ascribing an attraction to the object, a seductiveness. He blames himself for falling for a trap and frames the song as his own realisation of his agency. He got himself into this situation, he recognises what the problem is, he decides where to go from here.
I want to highlight that the central metaphor is used differently in both songs mentioned above. Thatās part of the fun of literary analysis. Everything works together to provide context for everything else.
Poison is a song about alcoholism, so it uses the titular concept to focus on the realisation and consequences. Bitter Medicine focuses on how the poison masquerades as a cure to emphasise its point about bad coping mechanisms being traps. Hazbin Hotelās Poison is the opposite of all these things.
The song in Hazbin Hotel is about an abusive relationship, and it uses the poison to step in for the addictiveness of that. Itās a reverse of Alice Cooperās song, comparing a person to a drug rather than the other way around.
It is also gloriously unsubtle in a way that is really difficult to explain, so Iām going to have to use another, wildly different example.
I recently read a book called This Gilded Abyss. Itās by Rebecca Thorne (@rebeccathornewrites), and it struck me as a book that was graceful in the same way that a person can be ācoolā. Itās not pompously dancing around clever wordplay. The book feels like the art is in the tale, rather than the telling, and I mean that in the best way. Itās more art than form.
The reason I bring this up is because that is the same feeling I get from listening to Hazbin Hotelās Poison. There are cool details in the presentation, sure, but they are outshone entirely by the emotion on display. I donāt listen to the song or read the book to dwell on the fine details, not because they arenāt there, but because the story has me in a death grip and I am too enthralled by it to pay attention.
I could talk about how Poison uses high notes to ground itself, I could talk about how the songs instruments imply a fakeness. But that doesnāt seem like the point to me. Instead, I want to elaborate on what I said earlier about this song and comedy writing.
The song isnāt funny, per say. If you were insincere, you could point out that this is about a spider singing to a moth, so haha jokey joke joke. But thatās the key. Sincerity.
The golden rule of comedy is ācommit to the bitā. Itās less funny to draw back and undercut yourself than it is to subvert expectations or do something dumb and go for it, despite seeing it coming a mile away.
I was a theatre kid (if you are shocked by this, welcome to the blog), and I remember being told by the theatre sports coach that for a joke to be funny, it can never be acknowledged as such. I don't know how much I agree with this, but it's a useful idea.
Hazbin Hotel does this in a big way with its entire design. Itās set in hell, and the main character is the most optimistic person you will ever meet. Pentious is a villain, and also a goober, and the show does not acknowledge the inherent silliness of this for a moment.
As such, the punchline of Poison is the final verse, which is a tour de force of Blake Romanās acting skill. Everything cuts away and you get the emotional centre of the entire song. Itās like the dick joke you can see coming, but instead of making you laugh, it destroys you.
This is how the final scream in All You Wanna Do works. The song part of the musical Six, which I hope to cover on this blog at some point and follows the breaking down of Katherine Howard. She is seeking a kinship without any preconceptions, but everyone around her views her as nothing more than a vehicle for sex.
At the end of the song, she screams out into the stage:
"Bite my lip and pull my hair as you tell me I'm the fairest of the fair."
Six is a tragedy that has already happened. The characters know their fates, but the audience gets to learn them in real time, and is powerless but to watch with joy that turns rapidly into horror.
In this case, Howard hasn't been allowed to complain. She's been something pretty for people to look upon, and she has to be happy, right? She's married to the king. But she isn't, because nobody has at any point asked what it is that she wants.
So, she screams, letting all that rage and frustration out, letting the audience know how she really feels, and displaying her complete vulnerability in the face of history, and then she is gone, and there is nothing you can do about it.
Poison also does this with each chorus. There are mini punchlines, mini beats that make you react and keep you interested.
āWhatās the worst part of this hell? I can only blame myself.ā
This forms a bridge to the chorus, drawing you back like an arrow in a bowstring to send you rocketing forwards into an aggressively upbeat flurry of music. The same thing happens later on in the song.
āSo far beyond difficult, To resist another gulp.ā
This is use of the titular metaphor, but its also ascribing blame. Angel has been abused and sexually assaulted by Valentino, and this is the song about how he has internalised that. Namely, through condemning himself.
There are two things to note here, and I think the series disagrees with Angel on both accounts.
First up, there is the importance of proportionality. Falling for someone with more red flags than a beach in shark season wasnāt a good decision, I think we can all agree on that, but it doesnāt condemn someone to abuse.
Especially since this is the internet for Pete's sake. You only have to imply that a character is attractive, and you will have a collection of people who will defend their every move. Part of this is the "I can fix him" mentality and the fact that fictional characters aren't real, but still. Come on.
Second up, is Angel really to blame? More to blame than, say, Valentino? The victim is blaming himself for his victimhood, in order to deflect from the person who has put himself in that situation.
Episode four has one scene in it that is both my favourite and my least favourite, the one in which Charlie sets fire to the set.
This was a scene that made me reflect on the difference between something being good craft and something being enjoyable, as Valentinoās switch in tone when moving between Angel and Charlie is so viscerally uncomfortable that it made me pause the episode to sit back and take it in. Itās intentionally jarring, and it's not trying to present this character as benevolent.
What it is trying to do is present Valentino as seductive, someone who has two modes that he can switch between. Angel fell for the nice Valentino who got the gifts and was kind and charming and was blindsided by the more aggressive version of this character.
In other words, the highs were what he was drawn in by, the lows caught him off guard. Valentino is like a drug.
This truly is the opposite of Alice Cooperās song. Where that personified the drug to give it agency, Angel dehumanises Valentino to place the agency on himself and take the blame.
āBecause I know youāre poison, youāre feeding me poison. Addicted to this feeling I canāt help but swallow up your poison. I made my choice and every night Iām living like thereās no tomorrow.ā
If we focus on the line I put in bold, thereās some similarity to another song, previously in the musical.
āHell is forever, whether you like it or not. Had their chance to behave better now they boil in a potā
The idea that choices are final and that everyone gets one chance that they must then commit to is a key antagonistic force in the series. The show is about hope, and the desire for things to get better, but Heaven and Angel say that if you make a decision, the rest of your life must be dedicated to the follow up of that.
If you got into a bad relationship, sucks to suck, youāre stuck there. If you got into a bind and had to do dark things to stay alive, sorry, no redoes.
There's a word for this: "Damnation".
Committing to the bit here is making the bit your entire deal. The theme is the dichotomy between change and stagnation, and every source of conflict comes from that one concept. Itās milking the joke for all its worth, but again, repurposed.
Although, there is one other advantage that comedians have in storytelling, an advantage I like to call the āWhatās My Motherās Name?ā Moment.
Sam Riegel is a voice actor and a regular cast member on Critical Role. He is famous for being incredibly funny, but also for his relationship with humour. Several times across the seriesā three campaigns, it has become clear that Riegel was being fully serious, and neither the audience not the cast saw it coming until far too late.
Thereās an obvious example here but letās get topical and talk about the latest episode of the series, as of writing this.
āHe had a perspective and a goal and he laid it out very clearly. He wanted to get his family back and assume power. He did not set out to kill a city, to destroy a city. He wanted to get back with his family. The others prevented him. He gave them a choice to sit down at a table and they said, āNo, we'd rather kill a city.āā
Riegel is playing Braius Doomseed, a minotaur champion of an evil deity, and in episode 102, there is a discussion of what has gone before. Braius starts to make a case for one of the villainous deities, and the rest of the cast assumes heās just joking and committing to the bit. Instead, Reigel commits to the bit so thoroughly that he bypasses humour and plays it straight. This is someone genuinely making a case for the lord of the hells.
The question isnāt about when Reigel started beings serious because heās always been that. The question, is āwhen did he stop being funny?ā
Hazbin Hotel does this with Poison, and it causes the audience to reflect on what has gone before. All of Angelsās actions up to this point have now been recontextualised, and it's far too late to do anything about it. Angel has always been serious, the show has always been aware of this character as a damaged person, but now the lighting is different, and you arenāt shielded by the joke.
The punchline is the commitment to the bit.
Final Thoughts
Iāve seen a lot of praise online for this song, and while I agree that this songās grip on you is unbreakable, I think that it gets outdone by the very next number.
I also want to point out why, in my opinion, episode four is the best in the series.
The show has a pacing problem, itās in a hurry to tell its story because itās had artificial constraints put upon it. But Masquerade takes its time and gives you a story without compromises and without outside input. In my eyes, this is a flawless episode of television.
Next week, we will stick with the episode, and look at Loser Baby, and how hope becomes triumph. Stick around if that interests you.

P!Apo Theorycrafting
So on last night's stream viewers were allowed to ask one question regarding p!apo's lore. My question was "Who is the most important person in his life?" and the answer was a cryptic "a reflection". He also mentioned there's something in his first pirates episode that no one's been talking about. So of course that's been buzzing around in my head all day so here's an attempt to coherently present my thoughts:
Missing Moon God
In the stream where Martyn and Sausage were cursed, one of messages they both received was (verbatim): "The warmth of the Sun and Moon fully vanish from your skin... As if not even the Gods can help you now..." We've seen our beloved admin sun god, a sun god cult, and sun god artifacts and chapels. Where's the moon god? Why was the word 'Gods' plural? And 'sun' and 'moon' both capitalized? If there is no moon god then why mention it? I've seen a bunch of light vs dark dichotomy in pirates lore, with light not necessarily the 'good' side. A bit of a moral gray area if you will, much like pirates themselves.
Spooky lore tweets from the official account say "look to the light in the darkness". The sun is a light in the day. The moon would be a light in the darkness. (Or stars, admittedly. There's a lot of star imagery on pirates.)
What Are Pirates About
There is a small section in the middle of Apo's pirates episode labelled 'What Are Pirates About' with the following dialogue:
Graecie: Listen, I know you're here for for the most glorious battles and stuff Apo: Well yeah, obviously. That's what pirates are supposed to be about, right? At least that's what I was told. Acho: Do you make all your decisions based on what you're told?
Acho's question could be conveyed as "Do you think for yourself? Or are you doing this because someone told you to?" Who told Apo what pirates are about? And why is he so intent on following their expectations? Are his motivations his own, or is he doing things because someone told/expected him to? Acho and Graecie then talk about how being a pirate is about being free to make your own choices. Is that the direction Apo's character growth is going in?
"A Reflection"
So how do these connect? The moon, while bright in the sky, does not technically shine with its own light: it reflects the light from the sun. And maybe it's the terminal brainrot I have from being a fan of the traffic life series and how that exposed me to the sublimely sad music of The Crane Wives, but I can't help but think of the lyrics to The Moon Will Sing:
The moon will sing a song for me I loved you like the sun Bore the shadows that you made With no light of my own I shine only with the light you gave me I shine only with the light you gave me
Now I'm not quite sure what a connection between p!apo and the moon could be (other than the fact that he safely washed up on the faction isles under the light of the moon), but the metaphor still stands. If the most important person in his life is a reflection, is Apo just the mirror? I also joked in the chat that it could be 'a ghost trapped in a mirror', but what if that were true? I haven't seen every stream, but the writings in his book seem to be addressed to a loved one, and I've seen people theorize it's someone who has passed on. Is he trying to preserve that light by reflecting it? And again, where is the moon god?
And knowing that cc!apo has a penchant for creating tragic little characters, is p!apo going to start finally living for himself and then die in a horrible traumatic way that fucks me up for weeks?
#pirates smp#apokuna#this could all be baseless conjecture but haha theorycrafting go brrrr#again; I haven't caught all of the streams so if anyone has more relevant details please throw them at me#and if the moon falls out of the sky and kills everyone again I am going to LOSE MY ENTIRE SHIT

{ Intro Post }
https://linktr.ee/opolivebranch https://arab.org/ https://wck.org/ my blog supports queer/trans people, people of color, disabled people, and minorities in general. If that isn't fine with you, go somewhere else.
Hello there, kind stranger! It's nice to see you. My name? Silly fool, I don't adhere to names. You're allowed to call me whatever you like. You can use any pronouns on me (including neos) My age is reserved for close friends only. this blog primarily serves to be a place for me to spout my inane incomprehensible ramblings about pieces of fiction that I really like, as well as the actual analysis post every now and again. If that sounds like something you'd like, feel free to stick around!
list of media that I really like (+ favorite characters from said media in brackets) - danganronpa despair time [david chiem, teruko tawaki, whit young] - tetro danganronpa pink [kamimura kazutoshi, hiroaki nakamigawa, okazaki manano] - milgram [kotoko yuzuriha, amane momose, haruka sakurai] - lacey games [lacey] - studio investigrave games (favorites are dead plate, cold front, and married in red) [rody lamoree, vincent charbonneau, winnie bosko, augustine orlov, bok-su go] - the summer hikaru died ["hikaru", hikaru indou, yoshiki tsujinaka] - vivinos' work (mainly her shorts, favorites are tili tili bom, jordan river, and my september. I also like alien stage and pink bitch club) [till, ivan, basically the whole pink bitch club cast] - infinity train (specifically book 3) [hazel, jesse cosay, grace monroe] (there's more, but these are the ones I mostly think about.) list of things that I like in general - drawing - history (especially art history) - analyzing stories and characters - psychology - long video essays (please send me recs) - character design - vocaloid [riproducer, ghost and pals, kikuo, maretu, pinocchio-p, hiiragi kirai, kurage-p, guchiry, deco*27, vane lily, mcki robyns-p, nilfruits] - music in general [the crane wives, sodikken, marina, melanie marinez, nicole dollanganger, mitski, lana del rey, amanda palmer/the dresden dolls, will wood (and the tapeworms), tally hall, chonny jash, jack stauber + more !!] - cool pixel art - pictures of sunsets (+ the sun in general) - learning about + researching new things !! and a lot more !!
some notes about this account + myself - I try to keep this blog relatively positive (keyword here is try), but I am a very opinionated and passionate person, especially about fiction. It's who I am and I don't try to hide it, so there will most likely be negativity just as there is positivity. - I love talking about my interests and fandoms !! Please send me asks about it :D - I don't tag spoilers - Though it may not look like it since I mainly talk about DRDT and Milgram on here, this is intended to be a multifandom blog and I want to make a bunch of posts about the other media in my favorites bucket soon (once I rewatch them...) Please don't follow me for any fandom specifically lmao - I welcome any critique or corrections of my posts so long as you aren't an asshole about it - I don't condone or tolerate harassing people over fiction, especially fictional ships. I also don't talk about it much, but I do like a lot of dynamics that would be abusive and/or unhealthy in real life. If either of those things make you uncomfortable, feel free to block me (this also means proshippers are free to interact with my blog, if that wasn't already obvious) - I don't have a DNI because I think they're counterintuitive uh. just don't be a dick and like, follow the three fandom laws and we'll be good - I make a lot of kys jokes, joke threats, and jokes about suicide in general, and also a lot of lame sexual humor. I'll make them freely on my blog because it's my blog, but if we're talking personally, please tell me if I'm making you uncomfortable and I'll tone it down. - I can also reclaim the F slur and do use it sometimes, same thing applies. - My favorite kind of media is media that tackles dark and/or uncomfortable themes in an interesting way because I think things of that nature should be discussed, plus it's just fun to read and write about. It's also the reason why I love the horror genre so much, as it gives a space for these themes to be explored without judgement. any recommendations of media that fits this bill is welcome - When I analyze characters, I tend to focus in on their flaws because those are the most fun for me to analyze. Please know that when I relentlessly slander a character, it is simply because I love them <3 - I really like characters who are morally very bad people, but still nuanced and complicated individuals. can you tell I'm a kotoko yuzuriha fan yet.
contact info + extra blogs
@allkn0wingallag0ny - my art blog!! I post my silly drawings here @drdtappreciation - confession-adjacent blog I made for people to share positivity about danganronpa despair time The only other social media I really use is discord because I hate modern social media culture, but I don't feel like giving that out unless we're mutuals. I think that should be all! Thank you for reading all the way through. I hope that you'll like what you find here :D

so sorry for spamming your ask box š
but i was wondering if you could describe how you think nicoās singing voice/overall tone he uses in a lot of his songs is.
like i know some of the source songs are upbeat pop but iām gathering that most of them are softer?
if there was for instance any singers that you think would be similar to how he sounds/sings iād love to know! (eg i think will can sing moderately well he just doesnāt think he can because he doesnāt have the same regular pop style as his siblings as when he sings it sounds like a mix of florence and the crane wives in the style they use.)
first, never apologize for the asksā¼ļøā¼ļø usually if i donāt respond itās bc im doing smth boring like studying/hw and i am mentally looking forward to respondingšš
had to sleep on this and think on it for a while to see if i could remember the names of any other male artists, and then accepted the simple fact that i am a certified pop girl stan and that will never changeHDKDJ
sooo i cant RLLY think of anyone that, like, matches his voice aside from conan gray - thatās who ive been imagining the most while writingš i just think his voice is honestly so beautiful and ig its just how ive imagined it?
i can give some songs specifically that i think are so so nico (in terms of vocal delivery, not lyrics/production)
- heather
- people watching
- astronomy
- little league
i think very much kid krow conan/some superache songs are the way that he singsā¦ i also feel like he sometimes over-produces(?) idk if thatās a term but like changes his voice slightly in production (less and less as the years go on bc heās more comfortable with his natural voice) but his live performances are incredible. i also donāt think he necessarily knows his range, like heās never tested it out, so one day heās gonna sing super high notes just bc he never tried before (snow angel) and itāll be incredible
the only other male artists i know/listen to are hozier and noah kahan and their voices are very different than what i imagine nicoās to beš i donāt necessarily think itās raspy (or at least, not when he records it like in the studio) but really smooth, sometimes with voice cracks if its like an intentionally very emotional song
i think he also intentionally sings a lot in his lower register (think, like, the way taylor sings maroon vs how sheād sing karma) and heās incredibleee at it.
honestly the way iād like to describe it the most is simply angelic. iām sure thereās an artist out there somewhere that sings the way i imagine nico to, but for now im just gonna go with conan!! im in awe of his vocal capabilities tbh, esp in the recent album (even tho i donāt think found heaven necessarily matches with nicoās voice/what i imagine that to be)
AND YOU ARE SOO RIGHT ABT WILL he def can sing, but he always like purposefully messes up the singing if yk what i mean? like if he was actually trying, heād be incredible, but he purposefully puts on like a strained tone or messes up notes just bc he doesnāt want his actual singing voice to be judged (plus he grew up around naomi and apollo and a bunch of other singers, and he just isnāt *that* good, but heās definitely not bad in any way)
thank you for the ask!!

you got good ass takes on minos and sisyphus hows The Lady and the Tiger by tmbg as a those two guys type of song ? I need peer review on my song associations lol. also do you have any songs you associate with any ultrakill characters ?
It's a very interesting and spicy song for those two, cause in this song, Minos' opinions is represented by the tiger, the more dangerous choice. I like it!
As for my songs for the blorbos, OH BOI YOU UNLOCKED AN UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENE
Below is a bunch of songs and who they're for. Some even has explanation
Gabriel
This Is Love by Air Traffic Controller - damn near a gabv1el anthem. A homoerotic AND homicidal lovesong. Literally the third line is 'I'm an idiot for thinking this was anything but blood'
Dear Wormwood by The Oh Hellos - Gabriel to the Council
Kaiserion by Ghost - same vibe as above, with more anti-christianity vibes
Bitter Water by The Old Hellos - Minos/Gabe, in an anticipatory grief, doomed yaoi kind of way
V1
Would That I by Hozier - highly specific Gabv1el with Minos/Gabe former relationship
Stars from Les Mis (Phillip Quast version)
V2
The Plague by the mountain goats - imo V1 was never made to give much of a shit aboyt humans. It's almost vindictively happy at seeing humanity's hubris catching up to them at last
The Toy Soldier's Song by The Mechanisms (Gunpowder Tim vs The Moon Kaiser) - loyalty is a lot to ask of a weapon, the song
Want You Gone from Portal 2 and Still Alive from Portal
Cry for Judas by the mountain goats - 'But I am just a broken machine, and I do things that I don't really mean'
A Sadness Runs Through Him by The Hoosiers - Gabriel/V2. The story of guard dogs who had bad owners
Minos
Sisyphus
Cirice by Ghost - Minos/Gabe that started out as Minos manipulating Gabe into siding with him a la Drowning Man (fic)
The Music of The Night from The Phantom of The Opera - slow, powerful and seductive. If charisma itself is a song
Ferryman by Shayfer James - despite the name, this is a Minos song. There's a certain indifference to shitty lovers and the insignificance of individual humans that fits him well
Run to You by Pentatonix - Minos/Sisyphus post-Prime. The specific amv scene I have in mind is 'Minos finds him bleeding out after fighting V1 and they share a few moments. Sisyphus realizes that maybe, he did regret one thing'
For the Departed by Shayfer James- Minos/Sisyphus, depicting their final moments before Gabriel arrives in Greed
Villainous Thing by Shayfer James - Sisyphus to Gabriel. An understanding between people who care about Doing Right, but hold too much anger to take the respectable route. Plus a bit of flirting <3
Ferryman
The Moon Will Sing by The Crane Wives - Ferrygabe resentment song <33 They fucking hate what he made them into
Obsessed With You by The Orion Experience - self explanatory
Others
Body by Mother Mother - self explanatory 2. That one piece of unadded ferryman lore hakita dropped is the gift that keeps on giving
Cupid by Fifty Fifty - lmao
Bury My Mother Pale and Slight by Amalgemotion - Virtues song. The chorus is directly calling to Gabriel as 'the knight' who will bring them freedom. I like to think that 'the king' mentioned here is God
For Narmer from Warframe- Sisyphean Insurrectionists
Like The Dawn by The Oh Hellos- Hell/Lucifer
Nothing Changes from Hadestown - The Council
Living in The Light by Ridiculon - The Council

I saw your post asking about mcyt lore so uhhhh *takes a deep breath
Mcyt is actually a pretty big category of fandom, cause different minecraft servers have different roleplays or storylines, but if it's related to tcw I'm willing to take a bet that it's specifically about the life series. Not sure why really? A lot of the characters and stories just line up really well with the songs I guess.
Basically for the life series it's kinda like a remixed version of regular hardcore minecraft. Each player gets 3 lives, and if you lose all 3 you die for good. When you're on your first and second life (green and yellow respectively), you're not allowed to kill anyone and your goal is just to survive. When you reach your red life however, your goal switches to killing green or yellow players, and then other reds when there's no one left. Also the world is pretty restricted to like???? 700x700 blocks I think??? So players can't just get away from each other.
The rules up there are the basic rules of the first season (third life). They had a bunch of other seasons afterwards that change the rules up (health syncing with other players, trading lives, a timer instead of lives, etc etc) but the main premise of the game is the same: you kill on your last life, and if you run out of lives you're gone for good.
The story is based a lot more on improv than some other series (namely dsmp or empires) but i feel like the improv adds to the charm? You never know what happens next and that's what makes the parallels and cool moments so much more memorable. I think the whole theme of betrayal and death and alliances just mesh really, really well with crane wives music. Like if your entire story revolves around complicated feelings with your friends and enemies over several lifetimes and choices then half of tcw's discography will probably apply to you
oh my gosh i wasn't actually expecting anyone to reply!!! and in such detail too!!! literally made my day, thank you so much! /gen
that. makes a lot of sense actually yeah i would also associate a premise like that with crane wives music
#especially songs like allies or enemies ...?#maybe take me to war?#I SEE IT. THANKS!!!#ask#the crane wives

All We Do anon here, this first part is directed to both you and the da capo anonāI would highly, highly recommend taking a listen to "Sun" and "Taste" if you haven't already. Please. They're songs that, like All We Do, are very much celebrations of humanity (which is also what I associate with this blog).
Oh I love SAL's Enneagram songs too! My favorites are 1, 5, 8, and 9. That's literally almost half of the songs but who cares?! It's all so good.
I am very bad at music. I have learned how to play instruments before but I have very poor relative pitch and my rhythm is always slightly too fast. Also not a singer. All this to say that while I don't quite relate to your perspective on SAL's work when it comes to personal renditions of it I still find it really interesting! SAL is one of those artists I'm very very hesitant to share with other people because of how precious they are to me, so I don't really get to hear others' thoughts on them.
Also I can't believe I didn't make the connection to Neptune! Da capo anon thank you for picking up the slack on my end!
I have not had the chance to listen to the playlists yet because 1) I don't use Spotify and must familiarize myself with it and 2) combined they are over 8.5 hours long. I have looked through the songlists though and would like to say: The Oh Hellos!! The Crane Wives!! I love them both!!! They both have such wonderful songs (and you have such wonderful taste!)!!! Also:
I see you have "Hello My Old Heart" in one playlist. Have you heard the most recent version? If not, I'd highly recommend it. It has a very different feel to it but it is also amazing.
I've recently been rediscovering my love for the Crane Wives so I'm just going to list A Bunch Of Songs: Take Me to War, I Talk in My Sleep, Never Love an Anchor, Allies or Enemies, Tongues and Teeth, Metaphor, High Horse, Empty Page, The Garden, and so so much more. These are all very different songs, but they're all very very good.
Since it's tradition now (if twice can count as such), I'll recommend another artist! Hozier!!! He has a lot of good music too! I wouldn't say it shares the same vibes as SAL or All We Do (and that applies to a lot of the Crane Wives songs as well), but I would absolutely still deem them amazing. Some of my favorite Hozier songs are "Nina Cried Power," "In the Woods Somewhere," "Like Real People Do," "Shrike," "Almost," "From Eden," and "Movement."
I realize now that this is legitimately a ridiculous number of songs to recommend all at once but I do genuinely mean it when I say they are all wonderful (although since they differ quite greatly from SAL and "All We Do I" I can't exactly promise you'll love all of them).
This is getting a bit too long so I'm just going to add that I'm very very happy that you also shared the playlist for hold me softly!! It's another series of yours that I love greatly and I didn't expect to see it in your response so the fact that it was there made me very very happy!
May you also be very very happy!
omg omg omg you have NO IDEA how happy this ask is making me right now!!! I was literally gushing about you and da capo anon to my partner earlier when we were chatting about fic and writing and how nice it is to get feedback / enthusiasm from other people!!!!! no but truly, you and da capo anon have given me some energy back when it comes to writing, and specifically for the fics you both have given me feedback for and engagement with. This past year or two is the first time in my life I've actually had the mental time and space to really build good daily writing habits, and this fandom and these fics I've been working on have been the first time I've been able to tackle and accomplish big writing tasks and actually, you know . . . accomplish them. It's been a fun bit of growth to go through, and I mean that genuinely. Thank you for being a part of it.
(also the fact that you and da capo anon and I are having a full conversation through asks is making me cackle with joy because it's so fun)
I HAVE SEEN THE NEW VERSION OF "HELLO MY OLD HEART". I LITERALLY SPENT AN HOUR RAMBLING TO MY FRIEND ABOUT IT WHILE ON A DATE WITH HER, AND YELLING ABOUT THE FIRST VERSION AND THE DIFFERENCES AND MEANINGS, AND SHE WAS JUST GRINNING THE WHOLE TIME. IT WAS FANTASTIC.
I do a lot of singing while I work, and a lot of my repertoire is The Oh Hellos and The Crane Wives, among other traditional folk songs. Folk music my absolute beloved. Scribefindegil here on Tumblr has a great catalog of folk and filk (fiction folk music) and I highly recommend checking out all the stuff she and Nate (astriiformes) have done. Eregyrn also has lots of good recommendations for folk and filk on her blog, and also awesome art. There are lots of others who have lots of really great stuff - I've reblogged a decent amount of folk and filk music at some point or another, so if you search it on my blog it should be tagged. Lots of neat stuff and creative people!!!
More music to check out!! Bless you!
Hozier's music is great - I've listened to a lot of his stuff off-and-on, but I'll have to put your recommendations on my work playlists so I can listen to them again.
All We Do anon I am hugging you with all my might, the fact you hold me softly makes my heart light up with glee. It is and always will be my baby in terms of fics and fic series, because it was my first real foray back into fic writing after several big life changes. It's also the first big story I've ever composed that's actually made it onto paper and not just spent time as spoken or imagined tales. There's so much more still to come in that world and that story, and with some luck and hard work I will get to tell it. I hope you'll be patient with me until I can.
For now - in return for your benevolence, have a section from the next installment of hold me softly. Title and excerpt under the cut.
An excerpt from the fic "so build me a cottage of sunlight and stone" from the fic series "hold me softly (kill me softer)" by howtotrainyournana on Ao3.
Summary: On the residence of king Eret in the cottage of one Dream. Or: Dream earns the last name āWas Takenā by kidnapping a king. Dream is not amused. Eret, however, is having a great time.
. . .
Eret did not wake up this morning expecting to be kidnapped.
To be fair, it has been a very long time since someone has tried, so he doesnāt usually wake up expecting to be kidnapped. He thinks heās a fairly good king, all things considered; heās neutral in all conflicts, but not uninvolved. He seeks peace and fairness and justice, and he sees to his people and his lands and their needs. He holds a hands-off approach for most things, preferring to give people their freedom so long as they are good to each other. Itās been a good approach for staving off kidnappings and assassinations and other unpleasantness that generally comes with being a monarch, even one in name but not function.
So, the kidnapping is a surprise.
Heās blindfolded, which is inconvenient, but his ears arenāt muffled and heās not gagged. He flexes his wrists and shuffles his legs and is pleasantly surprised to find that while his arms are bound, his legs are not. He doesnāt know if he was drugged or not, because while he remembers going to sleep he doesnāt remember being tied up or transported, and heās quite sure he would have woken up at some point during all that. Heās not a heavy sleeper.
Eret takes a moment to try and suss out what heās laying on ā something soft, maybe a bed? Thereās a pillow under his head and he thinks heās laying on old quilts by the feel of them, so probably yes. Itās very comfortable. He listens closely to the sounds around him, but when all he hears is birdsong and a breeze through windows and the distant sound of running water, he figures itās safe to reach up and undo his blindfold.
He blinks in the light and takes in the cottage around him.
Itās a small thing, one room, and stuffed full to the brim with just . . . everything. Every bit of space is meticulously utilized, and Eretās rather impressed. The rafters are hung with baskets and herbs and meats, hooks and shelves fill every wall, and the windows open outward to give more space inside. The door is open too, which is a pleasant surprise.
Eret stands ā on steady feet, so a drugging seems unlikely, which begs the question of how he got here ā and wanders about the room. The most curious thing about the whole place is the costumes ā and the masks. Thereās a little dining table absolutely crammed with sewing supplies. Thereās a little redstone-driven sewing machine of a design heās never seen before.
He might try to figure out how to take it with him.
Thereās spools of thread and stacks of neatly-folded fabric and a pincushion absolutely glittering with needles. Thimbles and buttons and hooks and clasps peek out from an overflowing sewing basket on the back of the table, and a half-empty bag of stuffing and scraps is stuffed haphazardly itself under the table next to the little stool. There are costumes in various states of completeness folded or hung up or laid out around the sewing corner, but what really draws Eretās eyes are the masks.
Thereās a delicate golden mask with curling ramās horns. Thereās a feathered half-mask, all black and silver and with a wicked beak. Thereās a monkey mask, and a fish, and a horse, and a dog, and one with a strange geometric pattern thatās hard to look at. One is split neatly down the middle, half black, half white. One is a simple white porcelain circle with a smiley face on it; another is nearly its mirror image, but the mouth is open and laughing. Another yet is the smile turned sideways, another only a smile with no eyes at all. There is a beautiful blue mask of scales and fur, another of white bone and sharp teeth and six horns. There is a mask that is simply a smooth black dome, reflecting the beholder back at themselves. Eret gets lost in it for a moment, or maybe longer than a moment, because he startles back into awareness when something soft brushes past his legs. The light has shifted a bit, crept that much closer to midday.
There is a calico cat purring and rubbing against his legs.
āOh, hello there little one, I didnāt see you there,ā he says, bending down to pet her. She purrs louder. He pulls his hand away, and she meows in protest, so he gives a chuckle and sits on the rug, patting his leg. She walks over his lap and begins kneading bread on his legs, purring like a motor.
āNice place you have here,ā Eret remarks. āI donāt suppose youāre the one who kidnapped me, are you?ā
āNo, that would be me,ā says a voice from the doorway, and Eret startles again. The cat leaps off his lap and runs over to the man at the door. He scoops her up in his arms and pets her, tilting a masked face and very obviously considering the king seated on his floor. The mask is a pale wood, Eret notes, with a smile similar to the porcelain ones. There are thin, branching antlers reaching out from the crown of the mask.
āDid you have a good rest, Your Majesty?ā the man asks, and his voice is familiar.
āI did, thank you for asking,ā Eret replies. It never hurts to be polite to your captors. āWho might you be?ā
The man tilts his head the other direction, and Eret can tell that heās smiling even though he canāt see a bit of his face.
āMyself,ā the man says, like itās an inside joke between the two of them. Eret feels like he should know him, but for the life of him he canāt place the voice.
āAnd who might she be,ā Eret asks, gesturing at the cat purring in the manās arms.
āThatās me,ā the man says, laughter in his voice.
āSo I guess that makes me I, does it?ā Eret jokes back.
āNo, thatās me,ā the man says, pointing at the cat, āand you are I, not me.ā
Eret breaks into a grin.
āI think I might like being kidnapped this time,ā he says, and the man laughs.
āCareful, youāll ruin the reputation Iām trying to build, talking like that.ā
The man walks over to the fireplace, depositing the cat on a little climbing shelf on his way. She disappears up into the rafters. The man swings the kettle over the fire. Maybe theyāre going to have tea? Eret wouldnāt be opposed to it.
āAnd what reputation would that be?ā
The man keeps fiddling near the kettle. Two porcelain cups get unhooked from the wall; a jar of crushed herbs uncorked; and a gleaming jar of honey opened. Tea it is, then.
āThe thief who stole a king,ā the man replies.
Eret hums as he stands.
āThatās quite a bold reputation to be seeking. Tell me, whatās it for? Fame? Money? Status? A sense of power?ā
The man turns back, steaming mugs of tea in hand. The mask is lifted, pushed upwards into curling dark gold hair. Eret sucks in a breath, because - his eyes. Eret knows those eyes, knows that face, knows that voice. But it's not the Creative God standing before him. Eret knows that, like he knows when the wind will turn and the seasons will shift, like he knows when the tide of battle is reaching a fever pitch, like he knows when his breath stills at last he will breathe anew somewhere different in a new body and an old life.
"Fun," the man says and yes, yes this will be, thinks Eret.
He accepts the tea graciously and grins at his unwitting host, demure and graceful and already plotting. The man grins back. Oh, to be a young fool again. Eret sips his tea again before he speaks. Let the games begin.
"So, what should I call you?"

How about a directorās cut for My Head Is an Animal? What made you decide to work Of Monsters and Men (and that album, in specific) into the story? How did you first get into them?
šµ Musical Episode Talk š¶
Fair warning, I use a *lot* of words to answer this. 900 of them to be approximate. Peek under the cut and scroll at your own risk.
There's a bunch of different angles to this so I'm probably just gonna spit them out variety show style and then maybe have them cross over at the end.
I've danced around this before but I'll just out and say it, Violet is kind of loosely based on me. Not in a Literally Me ā¢ļø self-insert way, but I give her some traits and characteristics that I have in real life. As much as I like her, I feel like the show kinda left her blank, especially compared to how much development Lena and Webby got. I don't think the stuff I've added feels very out of place on her anyway.
I remember reading a few fics in which characters would come out to each other, and that was pretty neat. At the time I was way less out than I am now, so the only way I could really express that was through fiction. Hence, why I took the aroace Vi headcanon I already had and made a story out of it.
I'm a sucker for character playlists. Whether it's songs that tell their story, or just the kind of music they'd be into, it's the easiest way for me to get a grasp on a character. I actually do this when I write as well. Each fic has its own "soundtrack", except Dream(s) because of how short it was.
OMAM had their big hit in 2012 with "Little Talks", which has kinda lingered around ever since. I've gone through phases of loving it and forgetting it even exists over the past ten years, although it's probably never leaving my head anymore.
I pick up a lot of music from soundtracks and playlists. I'm not a big discography guy. The easiest way to get me to like a song is to attach it to something else I like (hence why character playlists do it for me). In this case, OMAM appeared in the NHL 20 soundtrack ("Alligator". Recommend it), which brought them back into my brain around 2020-21.
There was a social media post I saw while I was still getting accustomed to the whole aroace thing, which asked for songs that fit the community. Kinda similar to the aro vibes post that went around about a week ago. One of them was "Love Love Love", which caught my eye because it was OMAM. I gave it a listen, and I would love to tell you that it hit me right away, but it just didn't really. But after a few times over, it started to click. I'm not sure if this is when I listened back to the whole album or if that came later, but this was the catalyst for that.
Whenever I have panic attacks or otherwise just bad times, I listen to Fleetwood Mac. It's my ultimate comfort band. My top 2 tracks are "Rhiannon" and "Dreams", which are pretty much guaranteed to put me in a better mood. That's one of the concepts I gave Violet, as both a justification for the music and a point of conflict.
[Edit: oooh I just remembered I also did this concept in the first ever fic I wrote (unreleased) about Lena having a meltdown and Webby and Vi calming her down with a song! So I guess that makes 3x I've done that trope now]
Back to character playlists. If you remember the post I made recently about the Violet Sabrewing playlist getting wiped from Spotify, that's relevant here. It had songs by The Oh Hellos and The Crane Wives, which really planted the idea in my head that Violet would be into indie folk rock. What else is indie folk rock? OMAM!
I already liked "Little Talks" and loved "LLL", and I dug the indie folk rock vibe, so I figured why not dive into the whole album. Which is funny because I almost never do that. Not a discography guy, like I said.
You still there? Great. Anyway...
When I sat down to write "My Head is an Animal", it was originally going to be about Violet finding the song, kinda like I did. The "Love Love Love" scene was going to be the majority of it. But I felt like it was missing something. I wanted to see Violet go through the process. I wanted to show her struggling, realizing, accepting, etc. I wanted to show the full experience.
Hence, the full album. I had some ideas for where I was ultimately taking the story, but this was the most seat-of-my-pants writing I've ever done. I had the songs playing on loop as I wrote each segment, writing down how it made me feel. How it made her feel. The ups, the downs, everything.
I didn't want to just parachute in during the middle of Violet's process, because that feels like shortcutting it. But I also wanted to give closure as seen in the final cut. In reality, there's still a lot more to figure out for Vi, as there is with anyone, but after putting her through a panic attack or two, I wanted to see her happy.
Hopefully that all made some sort of sense. At the very least, it was worth writing down for my sake. And big thanks for the ask!
#ask and you shall be answered#my head is an animal dx#aroace violet my beloved#what can i say? i like writing characters who are struggling through hard times but are comforted by the people they love most#and also a song that means a lot to them personally while still carrying relevance in the situation at hand#as one does#but yeah thanks for the excuse to ramble#my autism appreciates it

I don't do anything with my life except romanticize and decay with indecision.
Allen Ginsberg, The Book of Martyrdom and Artifice: First Journals and Poems, 1397-1952
Hi, I assumed you clicked this link in hopes of getting a little glimpse of me or whatever creature runs this account.
Well, hello there, human.
You can refer to me with any pronounsāIām comfortable with anything, even "it/its." The purpose of this account is to serve as a digital journal because, for me, it's easier to commit to maintaining an account than to writing in a physical journalāthough Iām more than willing to give it another try.
I am of legal age, so if youāre a minor, itās best not to follow me, as my content may not be suitable for younger audiences. Additionally, I donāt automatically follow back unless Iāve interacted with your friend-finding post, so I apologize if I donāt respond to your follow request.
A little warning to this account:
I'm familiar with the roleplaying universe and was part of it for a while, so I might talk about that quite a bit on this account. Some people might have come across me when I played as Sunghoon, others as Heeseung (though somehow I believe I'm not out there much).
I like to explore controversial and unusual genres or topics, but I donāt support them in real life. I keep fiction and reality distinct, so please donāt engage with me if youāre bothered by fictional content or repulsed by the subject. However, I also avoid certain subjects that make me uncomfortable or are not to my taste.
I enjoy horror content, whether it's in a book or a movie. I might repost and discuss horror material that could be triggering for some. If you choose to follow me, please turn off my reposts.
I tend to be slow with DMs, so I might reply late while still posting random content. However, if you find any of my posts offensive, please remind me privately.
I might repost and talk a lot about K-POP, especially groups like Enhypen, Stray Kids, Pristin, Oh My Girl, and a bunch of groups. I also enjoy artists like Ethel Cain, The Crane Wives, In This Moment, Florence & The Machine, Fiona Apple, and Bring Me The Horizon, as well as Mayday Parade. Which make them my top artists tbh.
If any of those points make you uncomfortable, please feel free to leave this page and not interact with my account.
Also, if you fit the basic DNI criteria or frequently engage in random internet 'wars', I wonāt interact with you. Iāve filtered my notifications as well.
So, yeah, that's all.

hahaha, yeah im ok. (most of the time). its pretty easy to tell when its not! i guess i just gravitate towards less happy songs. but i always viewed get this right as pretty optimistic and happy...compared to the other songs i connect me & my memories too, lol! considering a lot of the other songs i connect with my mems...while ill do a list off the top of my head!
oom sha la la & show you a body by haley heynderickx
dead to me by eel valley
not the ghost, never love an anchor, and the garden by the crane wives
hello my old heart by the oh hellos
too many flesh suppers & the sea is a good place to think of the future by los campesinos...
OH and brother by madds buckley, as well. oh...and hawk in the knight from madds buckely, but that might be for more fictive reasons related to my other source rather than actual genshin source related things.
yeah! theres a bit of a theme. out of all of those, get this right is probably the happiest out of them.
bennettprime #šøš„”š„¢(also, its funny that i stole the idea of [blank]prime from how the fandom tends to refer to dottore...the man who quite frankly ruined my life! i mean its mainly for sysorganization & i dont actually go by the name, but you know!)
That's fair- and perhaps it is. I don't know all of those, but I know some of them, and yeah, Get This Right might just be the happiest of the bunch /lh

#reblog is what it says
I tend to use a lot of generic categorization tags for fandoms, ships, characters, art and writing, tutorials, animals, etc.
I use #unreality, #tw blood, and #tw gore where necessary and try to avoid guilt trippy "you must reblog this" posts
If you need other trigger tags just ask but I may say no if I don't think I'll remember. I won't tag caps and swearing for sure I used to but I post way too much of them and will forget
DNI
I'm not doing a whole big list anymore. If you're a bigot, exclusionist, or send people death threats I'll block you because you suck. If you mostly post NSFW I'll block if you try to follow because I keep this blog SFW besides the occasional mild joke. If you're under 13 and admit to it, I'll block you if you try to follow because I want you to have a good childhood and not be on Tumblr. Other than that I think most Tumblr discourse is pointless but if you really want to know where I stand on something, ask.

Fandoms & Media-Related Interests
There are varying degrees of activity here. Some of these might just be occasional analysis or gameplay posts, some I also do ship and read fic and stuff in. Sometimes I may post other stuff too if I see something cool for an old/less serious interest I don't follow much or I forgot to update this.

so while I've been listening to each of the crane wives albums I've connected a lot of them to laura and specifically the way she viewed her experience and the people around her throughout the story and it gave me an idea for an AU of sorts?
basically where laura is staying with max in a house owned by her uncle who is renting it to her, and the town is kind of similar to the one in life is strange 2 where the grandparents live, because living in this rural, woodland environment is an attempt to help them overcome the trauma they have endured
and so laura works at a community bar type of place and (since siobhan is a musician i thought it would be fun) laura plays guitar and sings at this bar semi-frequently, and she plays this setlist of songs by the crane wives as a way of coping
also, as a sort of reunion, she and max somehow invite everyone to this town on the anniversary to check in with each other, and they are invited to watch her perform on a full moon
i also have a bunch of other little headcanons, such as i think she would've received the curse of being followed by eliza, and meds didn't help that, so she is relatively spiritual?? kind of, like using methods to ward off evil spirits and such. also that former werewolves get achy on full moons, just muscle pain, so she still tracks it, and maybe even has a lunar cycle tattoo on her back
#i really love laura guys#she's just such an interesting character#i think it's because out of all the characters#i feel like her response to all of this trauma is much less conventional???#like of course she would struggle sleeping still#but like she isn't afraid of the dark or the woods#she takes a very survivalist approach to it i think#maybe needs to sit down and unpack it but who knows#laura kearney#the quarry#i don't post much about the quarry because i need to stay away from horror unfortunately#fucks up my sleep and anxiety and shit#but i must put this AU somewhere

Yippee! OC Sunday :D!!
These fun little questions ease the pain of the week starting again, I love participating in these, thank you Freesia for coming up with it! <3
Anyways, going to be talking about my squad of TBB S/Os. They're known as the "Baddies Batch" because they're significant others to the members of the Bad Batch and they're a bunch of Baddies. Phee is included in the squad too!
More information about the Baddies Batch can be found here!
You can find out a little more about the different individuals from these links:
Khea Nultez - Wrecker's Mando Mechanic GF Tay'kaa Marr - Crosshair's Changrian Merc BF Viram Cossa - Echo's Mikkian Medic GF Jung-Myn Yun - Hunter's Mute Jedi Partner
Questions answered under the cut!
What's a song that represents their vibe?
Khea Nultez - "Steady, Steady" by The Crane Wives! Something a little folksy, but fast-paced, defiant, and confident singing about one's journey and the mistakes you can make if you don't have a clear head for what's to come. Fitting for the headstrong Mandalorian tied to her culture and family who has a tendency to run, to and from danger. Tay'kaa Marr - "Style" by Foster the People! Something that's upbeat and catchy, yet when you actually look into the lyrics there's something a little moreāresistance, regret, frustration, etc. Fitting for a cocky merc who puts up a stylistic facade with a devil-may-care attitude who refuses to comply with authority. Viram Cossa - "First Love/Late Spring" by Mitski! Something bittersweet that sounds like yearning and being so terrified of love and what it brings while also discussing maturity and the varying levels of it. Fitting for the Mikkian so overwhelmed by her work and desire to be in a relationship, who had to grow up faster than most and doesn't know how to handle her emotions as a result. Jung-Myn Yun - "Bambi" by Hippo Campus! Something a little slow and soft, about longing and the confusion of trying to figure out your place in the world. Fits perfectly for the softspoken former Jedi Temple Guard who's trying to make sense of an ever-changing galaxy and their place in it.
If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?
Khea Nultez - Khea wishes she was stronger, both physically and mentally. If she was stronger in those two ways, maybe she would've been able to save her brothers. If she was stronger, maybe she'd be more mature and would've not done the things she did to make her life more difficult. Maybe if she was stronger, she wouldn't be so afraid all the time. Tay'kaa Marr - Tay wishes he could say 'no,' more or know when to stop. Not in like a people-pleasing way (though that's part of it) but in a way he doesn't know how to back down from things, therefore putting him and others at risk. He's competitive, he can't help it, and he wishes he could. Viram Cossa - Viram wishes that she knew how to let things go. How to let friends, family, grudges, traditions, and ideas go for the greater good or for the sake of herself. She wished she didn't hold onto everything so desperately and tightly because in the long run, it just makes everything hurt all the more. Jung-Myn Yun - Jung lowkey wishes he was never a Jedi. He wishes he could've lived a normal life and not one of a Jedi Temple Guard, where you're stripped of your identity and individuality because maybe life would've been simpler. He would've been able to know who he was and would've avoided all the pain that came with being a Jedi.
Which store would they shop at for their clothing in a modern day AU?
Khea Nultez - Khea doesn't really care where she gets her clothes, as long as they fit and don't bother her, she'll wear them. However, she tends to get a lot of her things from places like Boot Barn or brands like Ariat because she's a cowgirl at heart. Tay'kaa Marr - Tay's a bit of a brand freak and wears like only Nike or Adidas. He has a bunch of 'sporty' or 'comfortable' clothes that are usually brand things because he thinks it's "cool." If you catch him wearing something that isn't a brand he's going to force you to never tell anyone. He also likes streetwear things, so places like OUTCHA work too! Viram Cossa - Viram likes to thrift or shop at little boutiques like Francesca's! She enjoys finding cute outfits and putting things together, never mind the fact that she's usually in scrubs all the time. She's not too picky really, so long as it's cute. Jung-Myn Yun - Jung kinda dresses like an ģģ¤ė§ ("Madame/older woman" in Korean, but also kinda a slang word for a certain style). They get most of their clothes from places like Uniqlo or Louis Castel, or really any place you can find older Asian people shopping at. Really, so long as it's comfy, he doesn't care.
Welcome to OC Sundays! š Each week, I'll post three random questions for you to answer for one or more of your OCs. Feel free to link the work(s) they appear in, too! We'll have a little showcase where you might discover someone that piques your interest and voila! Something new to read! š As for the image? Random dude I found on Canva, with so much sass and so much cake that I had to include him. š¤£š And apparently all of this is going to have a 70's vibe, LOL.
