i hope ruby gets a well-that’s-alright-then-style notdeath. on the one hand it will make haters mad because oh no not another companion with an impermanent end (and i like to see haters mad) on the other it would require creativity to depict this in a new way + i love all the implications i love the dark fairytale quality of these companion exits i love my un-undead schrodinger’s women

with the way the legend of ruby sunday is titled… legends aren’t usually told about living people. legends are stories of the bygone past, of an age long since over, fictionalised and overgrown with folklore like barnacles sticking to an abandoned shell. there is such a thing as a living legend, but they’re exceedingly rare. the unmistakeable raven’s call in the 73 yards teaser, the trailer’s cut to fifteen crying alone after promising to cherry he’d protect her daughter… the foreshadowing is clear as day…

and yet. there’s one massive HOWEVER. ruby appears in s15: millie’s been spotted on set filming it. which leads me to believe — the doctor isn’t one to take the time travel route and revisit companions that in his future are genuinely dead. that would hurt too much, it would cause unnecessary trauma and could break the timeline. that must mean ruby stays alive in some way. ish. she’s alive and a legend and a mystery. girl-ballad girl-song girl-paradox

As much as I love the misfits I have to say after today's ep my fav group is, purely based on vibes tho, definitely Annabelle's. They're so cousins from the mother's side of the family where all are around the same age and see each other somehow often so they have grown up partially together and are close enough to act like siblings yet not close enough to have that siblingnism™ bond coded it's SO GOOD

I like to imagine that Betty’s and Simon’s wedding was just around the corner when all hell broke lose. Maybe they were postponing it due to the mushroom war and said fuck it cause they were tired of waiting and if a bomb dropped on the chapel so be it.

I like to think it was barely a month away when he got the crown. That as a joke and a partial truth he said he’d wear it so Betty could really feel like a princess marrying her Prince on their big day. I like to think she smiled right before the crown took Simon over for the first time.

I like to think that’s why she didn’t fully run away. Cause they were so close to their special day and she hoped both literal and figurative storm would pass. That this would be a funny and crazy story to tell on their honey moon.

I like to think Betty heard wedding bells as she jumped through the portal and past their wedding date to a hopeful future with Simon.

I like to think Simon kept the bands, long after forgetting her and hid them when he realized the symbol of their unfulfilled promise wasn’t safe with his madness anymore.

I like to think some where they got to say “I do.”

How I feel about this character: I've always been really interested in Beatrice because of how mysterious she is. Like, as a fandom we have a lot of headcanons and stuff we've extrapolated from the books and supplementary material, but on pure canon there's a lot of gaps in what we know about her that makes her interesting, especially when it comes to fans trying to fill in those gaps. And I like that she was just this super cool and super hot woman that everyone was so incredibly obsessed with no matter what side they were on, everyone and their mother had a complex about Beatrice.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: If Daniel Handler didn't want me to become far too obsessed with Lemony and Beatrice as a couple, he shouldn't have written five hundred thousand words of Lemony going "Beatrice I love you so much let me list it all" as a way to reassure her when she asks 'hey do you still love me' in the 200 page break up book she wrote. That's just insane, of course I ship it. I'm also really into Beatrice/Bertrand as a couple too, people can have multiple great loves. And depending on my mood I can be really into the lemonberryice throuple.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Beatrice and Kit's relationship is always gonna be interesting to me, and Olaf and Beatrice just seem to have had the most fascinating dynamic, legit friends in childhood to some more vitriolic friendship and then she murders his parents and then he torments her innocent children, it's Good.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't know if I've got any necessarily unpopular ones because this fandom in general, and especially the bit focused on the sugarbowl generation, is very small and most of the stuff I've seen I agree with. I guess I might characterize Beatrice as a bit, idk, colder than most? For all her other facets, Olaf was someone she knew and seems to have gotten along with well on a personal level, and she still doesn't seem to have spent much time outwardly agonizing over what might have been straight cold blooded murder. I don't think she was evil or unfeeling, and there's a reason she pulled back from VFD stuff especially after having children, but there might be a more ruthless streak there in my view than in some other people's.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: idk man, that she fuckin lived? It's a bummer that she's dead, she was a devoted mother and a good friend and an important part of a lot of people's lives and it seems like a bunch of worlds were dimmer without her in them, her kids are gonna miss her for the rest of their lives and Lemony is still deeply affected by losing her literal decades after the fact. I wish she'd been able to meet little Beatrice too, I think they would have gotten along great.

I’m not going to be the one to do it, but theoretically it would be possible to make a Scout Goseumdochi lives AU. The ice cannons are that kind of future technology that their explosion could have turned everything into the vicinity into ice instantly, freezing the plane as it exploded. Like that Captain America movie.

Of course, one would have to worry about the massive cell death that comes from rapid freezing and then heating of body cells. Unfreezing someone from such a fate would kill them, assuming the ice around the cells and organs hadn’t done it already, and is partially why cryogenically freezing is unviable with current technology.

But hedgehogs are true hibernators, so one could get around that with an explanation of cryogenics and such, perhaps. Any weasels and mice that were also frozen would probably die a gruesome death once thawed. There’s also the idea of everyone being frozen being aware the whole time, but a hedgehogs brain would shut itself off, allowing for less mental trauma.

Or, one could start an AU from a bunch of mice and weasels ending up kind of like Crystallized Rourke from Disney’s Atlantis, depending on how you want to use the freezing technology. Maybe that was the true way the missiles worked all along. Or just a calm, somber affair with heartfelt Flower Hill reunions.

I, for one, would prefer to ‘Lost Lenore’ him with a true death for my AUs. Also, it feels like him being alive after that would cheapen the sacrifice, as much as he deserved better.

My high school did a yearly poetry recitation contest (Poetry Out Loud), so Oh Boy do I know some poems. My favorites are Ozymandias and "the world is about to end and my grandparents are in love," by Kara Jackson. Also in 8th grade we had a Poe unit and had a class contest to make the best music video of the Raven, so I still know a good chunk of that.

i hadn't heard of the kara jackson one! just read through it and enjoyed it, particularly these lines > 'grandma returns to her love like a hymn, marks it with a color. // when the world ends will it suck the earth of all its love? /will i go taking somebody’s hand, / my skin becoming their skin?'

Wanted to try my hand at redesigning the new Lenore doll. I think she has a good concept, but needed to be developed more. Which is a shame because I really like some of Rebecca's designs and this one felt very disappointing in comparison to others she's done. This is no hate towards her I just wanted to redesign for fun. I just think giving her a bit more shape instead of drowning in fabric and wig hair, and giving some details to her plastic bodice would elevate her so much more. Also her shoes, sorry I hate them they're just blobs. Love the lantern though no changes there. I don't think it's better but it's different.
